Portege M750-11W - New battery won't work

Q: Portege M750-11W - New battery won't work

Hi all,

can anyone help i got 2 spare batteries for my protege m750-11w and they dont work and i'm wondering do i need to do a BIOS update for them. The batteyr in my protege is PA3191U-5BRS and the two new batteries are both PA3191U-1BAS and it said that this battery would work where the -5BRS was in use.

I have updated my BIOS already from version 1.6 to version 3 and the battery still doesnt work i just get a white cursor flashing in the top left hand corner.

Does anyone know where i can obtain a BIOS update to except this battery?

A: Portege M750-11W - New battery won't work

That means Windows doesn?t start with new battery and you see only the flashing cursor?
That?s strange? Have you connected the AC/DC adaptor?

In my opinion you should fully charge the battery before you start Windows. After this try it again.

Hi Everyone,

I have a Portege M750 Model PPM75A-007010 and I need to change the CMOS (RTC) battery.

Can anyone share with me
- where to find this battery
- is this the normal round battery and if you can tell me the battery number?
- or where can I purchase this battery and price range?

A:Portege M750 - CMOS (RTC) Battery replacement

Normally the RTC batteries in these models are rechargeable.
If not yet done, please let the unit run overnight (not off, not hibernated, not standby - but ON) and see if the issue is resolved.

I think the charge-description/characeristics of the RTC battery is mentioned in your users manual.

I'm having difficulties installing the tablet buttons in WINDOWS 8.1 Pro. Everything else works, perfectly.

In Windows 8 Pro this buttons worked nicely, but now, after a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro two of the buttons don't work. The buttons are the Toshiba assist button and the presebtation button. I've tried to configure them in Toshiba assist software but nothing happens.

I'm sure I've installed all drivers that made wverything work with Windows 8. As anyone tryed this and add success?

A:Portege M750 and Win8.1 Pro -tablet buttons don't work

> I'm sure I've installed all drivers that made wverything work with Windows 8

Windows 8.1 is not Windows 8 and many of Toshiba Win 8 drivers and tools don?t work or are not fully compatible with Win 8.1

As far as I know the Toshiba does not support Win 8.1 on this Portege M750.
This means that no Win 8.1 drivers will be released and in such case some notebook features like the control buttons could not work properly.

Fact is that using Windows Vista or Win 7, such buttons were controlled by Value Added Package. This package does not exist for Win 8.1 and has been replaced by other software called Toshiba System Driver

So in case you want to try to get the buttons to work, I recommend checking this with Toshiba System Driver

I cannot get TOSHIBA Wireless Manager (3G) to work in a new installation of Win 7 64 bit.

I made a successful trial installation of Windows 7 64-bit on and old SATA hard disk drive and checked that TOSHIBA Wireless Manager would work. It did.

I then made a new installation of Windows 7 64-bit on a new Crucial C300 Real SSD 256GB.

The new installation with the Crucial SSD is not very successful.... The "shutdown and restart" operation does not work -- the shutdown does not always power off completely and you have to hold the power switch down to power off.

Sometimes the SSD will not boot -- you enter the BIOS password but then nothing happens. Sometimes you have to power down and take the battery out before the drive will boot.

But the biggest problem is that the Wireless Manager (3G) will not work. The application opens and states that "Radio is turned off" -- which it can't be as I'm using the WiFi to post this question.

I have tried installing the Vodafone 3G software. This detects the presence of the "mobile device" (SIM card in the slot) but then cannot enable it.

I have downloaded and installed all the latest chip drivers, the 3G driver, 3G software, LAN driver, LAN software and all Windows 7 updates.

I have the latest BIOS (3.0) but this has not been updated by Toshiba since 04/11/09.

I note that the Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool does not recognize the 8G memory installed (but ccleaner does):

Model Name ... Read more

A:Portege M750 Win7 64bit Wireless Manager (3G) will not work

points to a firmware issue on the SSD drive (is it sandforce) coupled to BIOS incompatability of the SSD.

i presume all the drivers etc installed were identical on the HDD trial install? so if thats the case it has to be the SSD not communicating with the BIOS correctly, hence the other issues as well

Is my M750 tablet 64 bit capable?
I'd like to install 8G of ram and be able to use that amount.....
The processor will run 64 bit, the motherboard will support 8G, but will the rest of the system?

A:Portege M750 - is it 64bit capable?

Do you want to know if your Win 7 would recognize the 8GB RAM?
In order to use more than 4GB RAM three components needs to support this;
- chipset
- OS 64bit

As far as I know some of the M750 supports the Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express Chipset.
This chipset is 8GB capable so it should be able to use 8GB RAM.
In such case I think that BIOS would also recognize 8GB RAM.

You can install any OS. You can use Win 7 64bit and I don?t see any reasons why this should not work

I just bought I used Portege M750 because my M700 was broken. Unfortunately, the select bays between both models are not compatible. Although the availability of a 2nd hdd caddy is mentioned in the users manual, I couldn't find the part no of the HDD caddy for the M750. I tried a standard SATA-SATA HDD caddy, but I get an "select bay error" message on startup, although the caddy works in windows as long as you don't hibernate.

Does anyone know the part no of the genuine 2nd hdd caddy for Portege M750 / M780? Or is there another 2nd hdd caddy which does work with the M750 without any restrictions?

A:Portege M750 - 2nd HDD caddy in select bay instead of optical drive

I assume you will need an Hard drive caddy part number: P000452980
Then you could place this into the Toshiba's Ultra Slim HDD Adaptor PA3408U-1ETC and PA3408U-2ETC

But you can also contact the Toshiba ASP in your country to get an confirmation...

just wanted to leave a message with the solutions I found for different applications for Portege M750.
These are the applications I use the most,
so if you need other drivers/applications just leave a reply and I'll try to find it.

_Got working:_
Bluetooth and 3G driver and therefore the GPS ( [Toshiba Europe|] )
Screen Buttons, except the Toshiba Assist and Presentation button.
Both opens this: [Buttons| f=1] ,

Which I find more useful then the old functions.
Installed Value Added Package, I think from here: [Go to download section| d=2266999&os=&ct=SB&selFamily=1073768662] . The one from europe site didn't worked.

FingerPrint utility.
Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts and you have an option in the left side of the window for fingerprints. Installed the drivers and programs, works like a charm. Or search on google for TrueSuite

For the ctrl+al+arrow to flip the screen, I used iRotate (google it).

Still no solution for the HDD protection utility, yet.

A:Portege M750 PPM75E Windows 8 drivers - SOLUTION

Many Win7 drivers would work with Win 8 system.
But there are still some drivers and utilities which are not fully compatible.
I?ve got a tip for you:
As far as I know the HDD protection Utility is not a model related software.
You could try to install the Win 8 HDD protection Utility released for Prot?g? Z930

Would be really interesting to know if it works.

Since I remmember I use my laptop with enable sleep and hibernate features.
A couple of days ago it started not to restart after sleep or hibernate.

You have to take ou the battery and AC power and then it starts but without assuming the sleep/hibernate.

Another thing is that when you press the switch on button the AC power led, which is green normally, it starts blinking yellow with some sort of a code long and short flashes.

This happens with different operating systems cause I tried to reinstall and the problem persists.

A:Portege M750 doesn't restart after sleep or hibernate

> Another thing is that when you press the switch on button the AC power led, which is green normally, it starts blinking yellow with some sort of a code long and short flash

I know that if there is a memory malfunction the *Power indicator* will repeatedly flash on and off (0.5sec) If there is an error in slot A the indicator would flash orange twice then green.
If there is an error in slot B, the LED will flash orange once and green twice.
If error is in both slots, the LED flashes orange and green twice.

By the way: is your BIOS up to date?

I'm using Toshiba's windows 7 image with all updates from Microsoft (now I NEEDED a lot of the for verying reasons so don't grill me yet... eg DON"T LOAD MICROSOFT UPDATES blah blah blah)

What does this code mean and is there a Beta Bios above version 3 for these things......

Any helpful comments would be greatly appriciated......

A:Portege M750 doesn't start - power LED flashes

Short means 0, long means 1.
In your case the binary code is 1000 1001
Now you have to reverse the binary code due to most significant bit.
This means the code is; 1001 0001
The HEX code means; 91h

So error code is 91h but I don?t know what 91h means and what part could be affected exactly!

Possibly it?s something wrong with power supply electronic on the motherboard? but only the ASP technician could provide more details?
However, in most cases the motherboard is affected and should be replaced.

I have installed win7 64 bit ("fresh install" on my M750-129) and i have also downloaded and installed all the newest drivers from toshiba website.
the device manager shows no problem / drivers needed, and trhings like HDD protection work well.

However, i have four groups of problems i would love and appreciate to find answer:

1) when i change the screen position to tablet, it does not change the orientation nor the resolution.
There is no utility to set the desired orientations of screen as it was in vista (horribly unstable and slow OS, though).
This, naturally, is diminishing the usefullness of the tablet finction

2) the buttons do not work properly; the screen rotation button starts excel (!!) , the centre of mobility button starts word (!!), and the toshiba assistance button does not work at all

3) fingerprints: the fingerprint utility lets me to screen my fingerprint, asks if it should save it, and than says "saving impossible; another duplicate pattern exists" which i completely do not understand what it means...

4) some applications are not available at all after fresh install: face recognition, DVD player, bussines card screener - but i can love without those; 1-3 worries me much much more and i would appreciate any functional help. thanx on advance for any try!

A:Portege M750 tablet, buttons and fingerprint functions not working in win7

I think you would need an extension package in order to use the tablet functions on the Portege series.
I didn?t find the Tablet PC Extension Package for Win 7 but there is an package for Win Vista.

Usually many tools and drivers which were released for Vista would work with Win 7.
So in my opinion you should try to install additionally this Tablet PC Extension Package.
I think this should solve the issue with the buttons too!

Regarding the fingerprint;
I think the message means that an fingerprint was already registered and therefore an second save is not possible.
Check if you can delete other fingerprints?

I have installed Windows 7 afresh on a Portege M750 and everything seems fine except the buttons on the display to handle tablet functions. The only one I really would like to work is the screen orientation one. I've looked for drivers, but can't find any that will control the tablet buttons. I read that for the M700 you need to download the tablet driver as it contains the drivers for the buttons, but no such driver exists for the M750.

All devices are ok in device manager with none requiring drivers.

Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions are very welcome.

Quick question - will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Layout looks similar; albeit a different colour.

A:Will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

I think you cannot use the same keyboard because the Portege S100 supports the an-easy-to-use 84-key (US) or 85-key (UK) keyboard and the Portege M100 supports the an-easy-to-use 85/86-key keyboard.
Furthermore the connector of the S100 supports the CN3230 keyboard interface 34 pin connector and the M100 supports the PJ3230 keyboard 34pin connector.

So possibly this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards released for the each notebook model.

Today I found this page in Toshiba Spain website: , and my battery is affected.

I called Toshiba and surprisingly the answer has been: *Yes, your battery is included but we no longer change them. If it has worked for some time then it should not fail.*

I have read many times the information in the mentioned web page and *I can't find the established period for the change*, and the most important thing is *it encourage me to remove the battery to prevent damages.*

I was expecting something else from Toshiba.

Hey battery of my notebook was affected too and it was changed 3 years ago. At this time the whole exchange program was ongoing.

Sorry but after so long period of time I presume the whole exchange program is at the end and out of date.
If you didn't have any problems with the battery in the past I don't think you will have it in the future.
When you will notice the battery is at the end by new one and everything will be OK.

When I unplug AC, laptop works, but when I plug it in again, still no charging (no existence of the battery). The red battery charging led is blinking, when AC is unplugged, lighting when AC connected. I have tried everything I found on the internet to solve this problem, but nothing worked :-(

Good evening,

I needed a new battery for my Portege R700-11P. I had a battery model PA3832U-1BRS and I bought a new battery that fits this. To be honest the battery was rather cheap, so I already thought back in my head that there might be a downside to this.

However, my problem is the following: I put the battery in and plug the laptop in. Then my laptop will show the orange charging light for a few minutes before it says that it's 100% charged (and the light turns yellow). Then I unplug the laptop to test whether the battery is charged and immediately the laptop shuts down. This means the battery was not charged at all, right?

So it says the battery is fully charged but isn't. I already removed the AC/DC and the battery and pressed the on-button for 30 seconds but it didn't help.
So, what can I do about this? Is the battery faulty?

Help would be extremely appreciated

I hope this few info will help you to find the way how to remove RTC battery.

Well, this notebook is really old so I?m not wondering about this issue. A battery pack can be recharged about 500 and when it runs out shortly after fully recharging the battery, the battery may needs to be replaced. You may have to purchase a new battery pack.

I bought the Portege Z30-A-1e1 in December but the performances of the battery seem to be reduced in just two months. Indeed, now in saving mode the battery life is around 4h compared to 6h of one month ago (toshiba says up to 10h, but 4h in saving mode seem to be less than the half). Furthermore, the battery drains very quickly when it gets to the value of 20%.

There is some problem?I have to change the battery in warranty?

A:Re: Short battery running time on Portege Z30-A-1E1

I cannot say for sure if your battery malfunctions or not because fact is that battery working time depends always on notebook usage.
The Windows power option settings (CPU / GPU performance, display brightness level, HDD /SSD usage, etc?) as well as the applications running and using would affect the battery working time.

I guess the 10 hours working time is the max possible value which can be reached using the max power saving features.
This means that in most cases the battery working times would be lower.

However, you should also know that the battery should be calibrated from time to time to keep the battery in good conditions.
The battery should be charged and fully discharged several times in the row.

If you did not do that in the past, try it out.

Hello everyone.

I have the mentioned notebook model and I'm having an issue with the battery gauge on Windows 10.

Once the laptop is charged to 100% and the charger cord is removed, the gauge never goes down. It remains at 100% until the battery is completely drained and the machine powers off entirely (it does not hibernate/sleep as it should at around 5% because it does not acknowledge that the battery is low, it still thinks that it's fully charged, I don't get any sort of battery level warning, it goes from on to off, just like a desktop PC would do if you pulled the plug).

Rebooting does nothing, the battery still displays 100%.

The only thing that appears to help is disabling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under Device Manager -> Batteries, uninstalling its driver and rebooting. Then the gauge displays whatever percentage of charge is left in the battery correctly.
Unfortunately that does not fix anything, because once I charge the battery back up to 100% the problem manifests anew, the gauge won't drop, I again need to disable the battery control, uninstall its driver and reboot.

Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this will be greatly appreciated.

My laptop is about 12 months old. Ive had a few charging issues in the past where I was on a/c but it would not recharge the battery. This normally resolved itself by running the battery flat and then recharging (sometimes the battery wouldn't even need to run fat before it would start recharging again).

However as off today, the laptop will only work when connected to a/c power.. The moment I pull he plug the laptop turns off immediately. The battery says it has 43% but is unable to charge. It will not turn on unless connected to a/c power.

I have rebooted, installed all windows updates, removed ACPI control method battery and rebooted and all to no avail. I cant update the bios as the device doesn't have a cd player and nor can I remove the battery from the device.

In the drives I only have MS AC adapter and MS ACPI (I believe there is meant to be a third device driver -the battery- but I ant see it there).

I hope someone here would helped me out in my problem. I bought my Toshiba Portege M900 last 2010. I would always plugin the charger to my laptop when I am at work.

There this one time that when I turned on my laptop, the battery was about to be empty like 7% remaining. I took my charger and plugged it in. After 5 seconds, it turned off without any warning or so.

I checked the lights in the laptop, the "charging light" is not ON despite that the charger was plugged in the socket. I tried to use the charger to my other Toshiba Sattelite Laptop and it worked.

I tried to remove the battery of the Toshiba Portege M900 Laptop from its place and plugged again the charger but still it did not turned ON.

So I took my Toshiba Portege M900 to the nearest service center. But surprisingly when I got there and related the problem to the technician, the laptop turned on after it was plugged. The technician said, he couldn't see any problems because the laptop was charging and it turned on right.

But when I took it home, whenever I remove the charger from the socket of the laptop, it would turn off immediately without any warning eventhough that battery is 100% charged.

And there were times, even if I remove the battery from the laptop but still plug the charger in.. the laptop will still NOT TURN ON.

I tried to check the Toshiba PC Health Monitor, but it would said that the battery is working good. What do you think seems to be the problem? Is it the bat... Read more

A:Portege M900: Power Problems Battery and Charging

> Is it the battery, or the power jack, or the motherboard or the charger

I don?t think its battery issue.
Why? Because the notebook does not power up even if the battery is removed but connected to AC adaptor.

_Power jack?_
Maybe. It could be possible that power jack or connection between the power jack and the motherboard isn?t ok.

It could be an problem with power supply electronic which is part of the motherboard but once again; this is just an idea?

_Charger /AC adaptor?_
Hmm? you said that the AC adaptor has been tested with another notebook and it worked. So possibly it?s not AC adaptor issue.
But are you sure that the other notebook did not run at battery power?
Has the AC adaptor been tested properly? This is an open question.

Another idea:

+BIOS version 2.40 upgrade for Portege M900 and Satellite Pro U500( For PSU56*, PSU5C*, PSU5J*, PSU5Q*, PSU86*, PSU8G* and PSU53* ONLY)+

There you can find an detail about fixed issue:
+System may not power on without using AC Adapter after the battery has been detached and reattach again. This has been fixed.+

This laptop work fine but *when I unplug the AC adapter the screen come black*, when I replug screen light again (It continue to work but without screen because it not power off).

I try Fn+F5 combinaison, not worked, try to change performance settings in windows, no change.

When I go into BIOS I can make occur this problem even if the AC is plugged by changing the value of the "battery save mode" field from "Full Power" to another (when I change the screen is turning off).

do you know how to resolve this issue ?
thanks in advance

A:Screen issues when battery mode on a Portege M200

>This laptop work fine but when I unplug the AC adapter the screen come black, when I replug screen light again (It continue to work but without screen because it not power off).

Sorry mate I?m afraid I did not understand this correctly.
If you disconnect the AC adaptor, the display goes off.
But what happens if the AC adaptor is connected again? You say that screen lights again but then you said you can work but without screen.

So I?m confused now?

In my opinion you should check the Windows power options.
Usually if the AC adaptor would be disconnected, the notebook switches to another power plant (battery mode).
In my opinion you should check the power plant settings which is used if AC adaptor is disconnected.

I've used some thinkpads that have the feature to take care for conditioning the laptop battery.
An useful function is to disable battery charging if you plug the AC adapter if charged above e.g. 75%.

It also monitors battery health and advises when a conditioning cycle is needed.
Is there such an utility for the Porteges or I should use a third party program?

A:Question about Battery care tool for Portege Z30A

How about BatteryCare Utility?

It is a free utility that helps you keep your laptop battery in good condition.
It monitors the battery's discharge cycles and helps increasing its autonomy and improving its lifetime. Additionally it provides detailed battery information and monitors the battery discharge cycles.

But Toshiba provides also own software called Toshiba PC health monitor.
It gives you an easy-to-read graphical overview of things like laptop temperature, fan speed and the condition of your battery.

I have the laptop since July 2013. At the beginning I had a good autonomy, the battery was lasting 6 hours, which with time diminished to something like 4 hours.
Now, I've been using the laptop plugged for some time, and I discovered a week ago that I have a huge capacity loss, around 55%. The strange thing is that this got much worse in few days, and now the loss is at 77%.

Besides buying a new battery (which I will do in the future - btw, any tutorial on how to change it?), what can I do? this loss of capacity is permanent? I've been measuring it with an acpi tool.

A:Portege Z930 - high loss of battery capacity

Can you start your Portege with AC power supply only (battery removed)?
If yes do it and when Windows is fully loaded put battery in place again.

I have a Porterge R500 with Windows Vista from my work.

I was going on a trip so I got myself an extra battery.
Before taking the airplane everything worked fine. Both batteries worked and they were fully charged.

After I entered the airplane, out of the blue, the laptop didn't not start with neither of the two batteries (original both of them).

When I landed I connected it to the ac plug in, and it started. It says the battery is charging (70% and 80% respectively) but none of them seem to work because if I remove the plug in, the laptop shuts down.

When it is connected, the battery light does a sort of blinking (every now and then) but I don't understand what is the problem at all because the computer is working, I have two batteries going sort of dead at the same moment and even when they are charged according to the computer, they don't deliver the power.

Any hints?

A:Portege R500 does not run at battery power - indicator flashing amber

> After I entered the airplane, out of the blue, the laptop didn't not start with neither of the two batteries (original both of them).

Very strange that both batteries don?t work after you entered the airplane.
To be honest I?m not the expert on this area but maybe the radiation while checking the bags and personal items could affect the batteries.

However, fact is that notebook does not work using the batteries. I would recommend you to purchase another battery.

My old original battery discharges in 30 minutes and I purchased an original new one from Toshiba authorized dealer in Croatia.

After several days of charging and discharging, the new genuine Toshiba battery discharges 1.5 hours of normal use without powering any external devices nor optical drive.

Toshiba specification for this model of Portege states that battery should last approximately 4 hours.
How I can get the battery replaced when local dealer stated that he can not guaranty battery life and that the new battery came directly from authorized Toshiba parts distributor in Europe?

A:Portege M700 new genuine Battery discharges in aproximately 1.5 hours

> After several days of charging and discharging, the new genuine Toshiba battery discharges 1.5 hours of normal use without powering any external devices nor optical drive.

The battery should be calibrated properly. This means that you should charge and discharge the battery until it?s fully empty. This should be repeated several times?

Furthermore the battery working times depends on notebook usage? using notebook with max display brightness or running applications which needs full CPU, GPU and HDD performance would decrease the battery working time.

I have a problem with my Portege Z30-C-12Z. The camera app in win10 doesn't work.

I feel I have tried and checked everything, please help!

A:Portege Z30-C-12Z cam does not work using Win 10

Try this:
Type Storage in the search window and go the Storage system settings page. Make sure the save locations point to existing folders.
I had moved the library folders to a SD card and the camera couldn't find the pics folder. Elsewhere I saw the suggestion to verify that the pics folder has security settings set to allow access.

If still no good, remove the webcam driver from Control Panel, then let Windows Update install an updated webcam driver.

Reinstalling the Camera App may also help.

Am I missing something here?

A:TV Out on a Portege A100 does not work

did you already tried to reinstall the drivers?? Usually, if you connect the tv PROPERLY to your portege, the TV-Out should recognize that something is connected and should show you the icon while switching the output devices.

Maybe something on your cable is wrong??
Just do the following: reinstall the drivers, plug a cable into your machine and the tv and then try to switch the devices.

Please give some feedback after performing this..

I'm plugging in a usb video capture device, and a popup appears saying (approximately)

+this device would work better with USB 2.0 - click here for a list of usb ports+

I thought all the ports were usb 2.
I've just checked the drivers in control panel, and I am told they are all up to date.

A:Portege R600-140: message says: device would work better with USB 2.0

The notebook supports definitely the USB 2.0 ports.
I guess this message could appear due to different reasons: for example USB device malfunction.
Also the USB port problem could be responsible for such error message.

Therefore as first workaround I recommend you to remove the USB hubs and controllers from device manager list.
Open device manager, search for USB hubs and controllers and uninstall the driver.
Then reboot the notebook

Usually system will start to recognize the USB devices.

Note: during this procedure all external USB devices should be disconencted

I have an older Toshiba Portege A600-13T Netbook, I am quite satisfied with it, but in the last time the WEBCAM is not working and I have no idea what to do. If I try to activate the camera I get the answer:

The WEB Camera couldn't been initialized

In Systemcontrol the message is:

The camera couldn't been started, Code 10

If I look at the driver and try to update, the message is:

The optimal driver is already installed

May be somebody has some idea what can I do and how to proceed. Sorry my bad english!

Thank you in advance and best regards

A:Portege A600-13T - webcam stopped work

Error code 10 means that the device could not be started.
This can be related to driver (software) problem as well as hardware problem.

Let?s see if its an software issue: to check this I would recommend you to uninstall the Chicony webcam software firstly.
As far as I know you should be able to uninstall the software in control panel ? programs & features.
In case the Chicony webcam software will not be listed there, go to device manager and uninstall the webcam driver which you should find under ?Imaging devices?.

After system reboot, go to Toshiba EU driver page and download the Chicony webcam software in order to perform new installation.
Probably you will need to reboot the notebook once again to get it working properly.

So lets hope this short procedure would solve your issue? of course only if the issue is related to software problem.

I hope you could help me with that but my precious in-built micro started failing appr. a week ago. As I am speaking with someone, I am able to hear him very clearly, but he unfortunately does not hear me at all!

I went to sound properties as I read many articles how to fix this problem, installed the new sound driver, enabled it etc., actually I tried almost everything, but it is still not working. The sound driver is visible and updated on my lap, but it does not allocate any sound vibration!

Can you help me with that problem? Did anyone of you suffered the same??

Thank you in advance!!

Hi Goldie,

Right clicking on the speaker in the taskbar, going to recording devices, make sure you have only got one microphone option there would be the first step, if you have got more than 1, try right clicking them and 'setting as default' for each of them seeing if that works.

Hope this helps,

Had to rebuild my beloved Portege M100 following a hard drive failure.
Everything works fine except the video player.

Tried using Windows Media Player and Intervideo Win DVD but both close as soon as the video starts.
WMP says that it is a problem with a codec called ivivideo which comes form Intervideo or Corel as they now are.

However their site is less than helpful and I just cannot find a way to update this.

Any suggestions anyone?

Try the VLC player.
It?s small tool/player which can be downloaded for free.

I have a 6 month old Z30-A Portege i7 laptop (PT243A-0HW02X) running Windows 7 64bit, and the 13.3" 1920x1080 internal display screen is not working - nothing is displayed on the screen.

However I can connect an external monitor via the RGB cable port or to the HDMI port and still use the laptop that way.

I have tried various Function F5 Output toggles choosing Clone, External, Extend, Switch Display, but nothing works to get output back again to the laptop display screen.

On the External option I see a laptop icon in grey colour with a X on the screen, and a '1' on the other display icon, and a window appears for 'Toshiba Flash Cards' with red x error message " Failed to initialize Output Configuration dialog!".

There is no further help available to tell me what the problem is.
When I choose the Function F5 Output Configuration option, the 'Internal' line is greyed out, so I can't select it.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Could a BIOS update help to tell me if there is a hardware issue?
There is nothing about the display error in the Windows event viewer.

When I boot up, I see the Windows 7 logo, but then everything goes black after that.

I can start the computer in safe mode and the laptop screen works no problem. In Safe Mode I can even switch to 1920x1080 resolution. So the video hardware + drivers are working, just not in normal Windows mode.

Tried reinstalling video drivers but no luck.

I also wiped the computer and reinstalled Windows 7 + video drivers and still no luck...

It started happening literally out of the blue... after six months, like yourself.

Hello All

I have a Toshiba Portege A200 (PP415E). I have a problem with the keyboard as follows:

a) The Del key is dead as are the 'up' and 'left' arrow keys

b) when pressed the left button (below the touchpad) defaults to 'delete' (rather than open)

c) any USB mouse I use works initially OK, but occasionally a 'left click' of it (e.g in a Word document) will begin deleting text (cursor moves backwards)

The symptoms exist in XP Pro (any application), in Puppy Linux from live CD etc etc - so its not a software/OS problem.

Its also NOT a dirty keyboard - everything has been scrupulously cleaned. Ive also replaced the keyboard with a new one - and the problem persists.

I suspect a motherboard/keyboard chip problem and am looking for a part number/source for a new motherboard
can anyone point me in the right direction for more motherboard info/parts suppliers (UK preferred)

Many Thanks

A:Imput devices on Portege A200 do not work properly

HI Andrew

As you know such information is mostly for internal purposes and you will be very lucky if someone can offer this info. What you can do is to contact authorized service provider in your country and ask for help. They have access to Toshiba database and they can help you for sure.

From time to time check eBay. There you can find many hardware parts for Toshiba notebooks. With a little bit luck you will find used mainboard for few bucks.

I upgraded my *portege M800* bought in *Canada* to *Windows 7 64 bit*.
Everything is right excepted the keyboard. it's a canadian bilingual keyboard with 86 keys with 13 function keys and a console buttons with 6 keys(mute, cd/dvd, play, stop, previous, next).
I didn't update any drivers because it works fine with Windows 7 drivers.

The problem is:
- the hot keys (Fn + ..) don't work anymore
- the console buttons with the 6 keys (play, pause, etc) don't work anymore

What I did:
- checked the driver of the keyboard in the device manager: its a microsoft driver
- tried to update it with a toshiba driver but *I didn't find it in the driver list for windows 7 or vista on the toshiba website*: []

So, I don't know if it's a driver problem or anything else???

A:Portege M800 - After Windows 7 upgrade the FN keys don't work anymore

These special functions of FN keys and multimedia buttons have nothing to do with the keyboard driver. Furthermore for the keyboard there is no driver update. There is only the Windows standard driver that can be used.

The point is that you need Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. If you have bought the M800 in Canada, I assume it?s a Canadian model and therefore you can download all drivers here:

A:Y40 Battery Calibration does not work

Hi dr3wski ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Battery calibration is just refreshing how internal battery circuit remeasure performance .
Can be done every 2-3 months but is not really require not unless that there is failed reading on battery status and charging amount.
You can do it manually since the principle is just the same as what the calibration software would.
Just charge it to 100 % and then allow it to use the charge and keep using it whithout the charger until drained.
Leave it off the laptop for 2 hours to cool down and connect it back to charge.
Issue may just be thru the software that you can just simply update or uninstall and reinstall a fresh updated copy from the support site .
Update us how things go.

This is my replacement laptop after the first Yoga wouldn't even turn on, so any help would be much appreciated, as I really do not want to return this one too!

I am running an Acer Aspier 5670 (Notebook) with Windows XP (Almost 2 years old)

When my battery is in my notebook and Windows loads, the mouse and kb don't work.
I can access the BIOS menu, but like I said, once Windows loads I lose control
USB Mouse does not work either

When I take out the battery and hard reset the problem is temporarily solved, but I want a permanent (and mobile) solution

I tried reformatting and that didn't work

Hi, guys!My laptop is constantly plugged in when I use it and according to my personal experience, Acer's own guidelines from the user manual and this link here on how to extend battery life, this can severly affect it, so it should better be removed.  Unfortunately the built-in battery of my model is not easily removable like on my previous laptops, so I'd like to know, if I open the bottom cover and remove the baterry, will this void my warranty and will the laptop funtion without the battery?

All system drivers are installed and I also downloaded latest version of Toshiba Value Added Package ( and installed it successfully. But when I try to start the battery manager (Win7 startmenu -> TOSHIBA -> Tools&Utilities -> Battery Manager) and prompting the dialog for adminstativ privileg nothing happens (even in the TaskManager the TBatmgrMain.exe does not appear as task). Are there some other tool / packages required to be able to run Battery Manager?

1. For example, if a phone comes with a charger( rated at 5V and 0.7A, when it's plugged in to charge, what dictates the current the phone draws, is it the resistance of the phone?
2. If I = V/R, do phones typically provide little resistance so that the current is the max the charger can provide? i.e in the above example, if the phone was off, would it constantly be drawing 0.7A, and if the charger was changed with one rated at 5V and 2A, would the phone draw more than 0.7A? could it reach 2A?
3...bit of a side question, but when the phone is done charging, how does it stop drawing current? again if I = V/R, does the phone have to alter the amount of resistance it is providing? how does it do that?
I'm only looking for fairly simple answers to be honest as this is just a general query and not something I need to go in depth with.

Hey guys,
I am worried now.
What can I continue my lesson without my laptop? Right now, the battery is not working any more! I need ur helps!

Thank you!

A:Hp DV2000 battery doesn't work! Plz, help me!

Do you leave your battery attached to your laptop when it is plugged into the power supply? If so...DONT!!
It's always best to pull your battery when you are not mobile, since batteries have cells that contain "memory" and can only accept a certain amount of charges, or "hours of charging."

Also you want to allow your battery to FULLY drain before you charge it again. Also, allow it to charge 100% and then either remove the battery or power supply unit.

As far as the battery you have now you may need to obtain a new battery; either through your warranty or purchase of another.
Once a battery is dead, it's usually done.

HP website from UK sent to me to HP parts stores in UK, From the long list only one offered the part 484170-001 which corresponds to my battery as refurbished. They do not even have it in the store? How can a refurbished battery can work and for how long may work? My another HP mini has a full working battery from the last 5 years. I wonder if mine can be refurbished. At least I know it is original from HP

Don't know if this is the right place to put this, but I'm using a Dell Latitude cpi a400xt laptop, the battery light continually flashes orange and the power bar says it's at 0%. It's never worked, just wondering why it might be. (incidentally, I do have a battery )

A:Laptop battery doesn't work

It could be that the battery is dead or that the voltage regulator in the laptop isn't working and teh battery isn't being charged.

Hello. I have a question. Regarding Battery Backup UPS systems, having a dual or 2 batteries incorporated into the unit better than having just one battery? They are usually 12 volts each.
Under typical conditions, regardless of the wattage needed; would the runtime (running due to loss of power) be increased or not? ...but how? Is this significant increased in runtime or not? It is truly worth having a second LEAD battery backup in your unit?
Please reply.
Thank you!

A:Having 2 Batteries For A Battery Backups System Work Better Than 1?

Having a second battery will increase either voltage or capacity, depending on how they are wired. Hooked up in series will increase the voltage, so 12V > 24V system. Parallel wiring will increase the capacity and thus run-time.

Hi all, Recently my HP Pavillion 13 keeps having problems with the battery. On start up it gives the 601 error message. I tried to use the HP Support Assisant. But the Battery Check always stops working! Same thing happens in the BIOS diagnostics tools. Nothing *beep* works and it's driving me nuts... How can I fix all of this?? Cheers, Dinnis

I am building a 4S LiPo battery pack that I would like to incorporate in a portable speaker project and I need to make sure the batteries will never require maintenance beside replacing them completely in 5 years or so. The batteries I am using are NCR18650B so they should be pretty decent.
I am using the following BMS board that is using a Seiko charging IC:
In order to test that this works properly I intentionally unbalanced a cell by having it charged up to 4V and I left the other 3 cells at the same voltage of 3.85V.
The bench power supply is set to 16.8V for charging and the following things can be observed:
As soon as the first battery is charged to 4.25V the pack is disconnected from the power supply. In this particular case, the total energy in the pack is pretty low because the batteries where significantly unbalanced. Why not disconnect only the most charged cell?
I am unable to detect balancing with the power supply on or off, after the BMS decides charging is done. No current is flowing from the most charged cell.
I tried an alternative balancing board and this behavior seems to be consistent. All the commercial balancing PCBs "work" the same way?
How does all this balancing actually work? What would be the best option for my scenario where I need a 4S pack from which the load will draw peaks of ~1A for short periods of time?

The stock coin cell battery that powers the cmos on my motherboard has japanese words, but it says CR2032 3V. If I put a Energizer or Panasonic battery of the exact type in there for example, will it work fine?

A:Will any brand of coin cell battery work in a motherboard?

You're in luck. Any make (panasonic, energizer etc) will work just fine. If your battery isn't already completely dead, remember to save your bios settings before removing the battery, or your setting will revert to default. If your battery is already dead, then no need to save your bios settings.
