Portege M100 - Processor Stuck on 600Mhz, have tryed every BIOS version

Q: Portege M100 - Processor Stuck on 600Mhz, have tryed every BIOS version

Right my BIOS was on 1.20 when I went to Toshiba website to get the drivers to install and found the BIOS update so I followed the instructions burn it to a floppy disk the last one I have and away I went but after the update I noticed that xp said it was running at 600 MHz not 1,2ghz.

So I used cpuid to see if it was xp but it shows the processor as running 598.6 MHz and can flux to 600.4 MHz max so I went into the BIOS tried CPU max disabled CPU sleep and rebooted so then I thought it was xp so I reinstalled but still the same I used Suse Linux still the same.

I?ve reflashed the BIOS with 1.50 through windows rebooted still the same. I am getting on where and this is getting silly I even went and found all BIOS versions from the Toshiba American site which goes back to version 1.10 to 1.50 so I tried all of them. Nothing!

I am really baffled at this can anybody sort this out it is really annoying and slow.
Thank you in advanced

A: Portege M100 - Processor Stuck on 600Mhz, have tryed every BIOS version

Hi

Just one question; was the motherboard replaced in the past?

As far as I know after the motherboard replacement the test & diagnostic should be performed in order to update the CPU microcode on the PCB.
If the microcode is not updated then your CPU would stuck at 600Mhz.

In order to update the microcode, the ASP must be contacted.

The other reason why the CPU runs only at 600Mhz is the low CPU processing setting in Toshiba power saver.
Check if the Toshiba power saver is installed on your notebook and set the options to a higher level.

Check it out?

Quick question - will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Layout looks similar; albeit a different colour.

A:Will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Hi

I think you cannot use the same keyboard because the Portege S100 supports the an-easy-to-use 84-key (US) or 85-key (UK) keyboard and the Portege M100 supports the an-easy-to-use 85/86-key keyboard.
Furthermore the connector of the S100 supports the CN3230 keyboard interface 34 pin connector and the M100 supports the PJ3230 keyboard 34pin connector.

So possibly this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards released for the each notebook model.

None of the Vista drivers work for Windows 7 so I switched to XP Professional and still NO drivers work?

Is there a special way to install them after installation of Windows?

cheers

A:Portege M100 - None of the drivers are working

Hi ollie,

It would be interesting to know what you mean with none of the drivers are working. Do you get an error message or what happens exactly?

Regarding the Windows 7 question I think it?s normal that the Vista drivers are not working for Windows 7 because the Portege M100 is very old notebook so I doubt that Windows 7 will run properly on it.

By the way, on the Toshiba website you can find an installation instructions document. Use this list a recommended driver installation order.
Check this!!!

I can get VIA c3 600mhz chips for little of nothing ($10 each)

I have quite a few CPUless VIA and intel chipset socket 370 motherboards and my friend has a slot 1 board that has a slocket.

I am wondering HOW compatible are these with any given socket 370 motherboard?

Must your board be verified compatible to work at all or will the chips work on any old board for example an Abit BX6 w/ slocket.
WIll any board with a VIA chipset work, after all VIA makes the things?

Thanx for any insights, I KNOW the chips aren't the fastest, cost is of upmost importance.

Thanx

My trusty M100 has developed a serious start-up problem. It will not fire up the bios just sets the second LED (on/standby) blinking orange and launches the fan. The RAM and CMOS battery have tested OK (from a 2nd machine). Pressing Esc, F1 or F12 just gives a beeping noise. No way to get to Bios setup. Any thoughts

A:Re: Portege M100 - Will not start, second LED blinking orange

Hey,

Nice job that you have tested other RAM modules in your Portege notebook because this would my first suggestion testing other RAM modules? :)

In my opinion it?s a serious hardware malfunction like mainboard or CPU but without special diagnostic tools it?s not possible to say more about this especially on this virtual way. So you must get in contact with an authorized service provider and ask for help. The guys have good diagnostic tools and can help you to get rid of this.

If you don?t know where nearest ASP is, have a look on Toshiba page!

Can anyone help?
Had to rebuild my beloved Portege M100 following a hard drive failure.
Everything works fine except the video player.

Tried using Windows Media Player and Intervideo Win DVD but both close as soon as the video starts.
WMP says that it is a problem with a codec called ivivideo which comes form Intervideo or Corel as they now are.

However their site is less than helpful and I just cannot find a way to update this.

Any suggestions anyone?

A:Portege M100 - video player does not work

Hi

Try the VLC player.
It?s small tool/player which can be downloaded for free.
It plays most files problem free.

Additionally you could install some codec packages like K-Lite codec package

Good luck

Hello.

After having sought help in the forum to find the driver on my Laptop Satellite M100-191 PSMA0E, I installed windows xp and the driver's.

What happens is that when trying to update the bios by windows , the computer asked me to save the old bios and before I do something and he was thus blocked for almost 1 hour.

I disconnected and then reconnected and now nothing appears.
It turns on and i can see the dvd drive to work, but nothing appears on the image of the portable.,

Someone can help recover the BIOS, because I think I screwed up here

Thanks

Okay I have a Toshiba Protege m100 here I think.

I set the boot priority in the BIOS to like CD-ROM>LAN>FDD>HDD

I reboot, doesn't work. Boots straight to HD and loads the OS.

I also tried pressing escape or whatever to make the boot menu pop up.
I navigate over to the 1 that looks like a single CD disc. I hit enter on it, and it still boots to HD.

The CD rom works. The current OS is Ubuntu. I can go into Ubuntu and look at the windows XP CD...

But it won't let me boot to any cd, it doesn't even look like it tries to search for one. Doesn't make the sound or the clicking noise.

(and for the record, I'm going from Ubuntu to XP for work, not personal preference lol).

Edit: Oh yeah I had to turn the LAN network card off in the bios because the boot priority would skip the cd again anyway, and search the lan for a connection or something... So with it off, yeah, it skips the LAN too now, to boot from HD.

Message was edited by: chriswf

A:Protege M100 won't boot to internal CD, though it's set to in BIOS

In my opinion in BIOS you should set HDD as first bootable device.

For some reason if you need to use other device as first bootable device you can choose it manually in boot menu when you use F12 at start-up.

I have just inherited a very nice Toshiba Portege z830 10p. I have gradually been setting it up for use. During this process, I occasionally had trouble with it not rebooting and not coming out of hibernation/sleep.

It is now in a state where when you switch it on the Toshiba logo appears on screen and the fan goes into overdrive, sounding like it's about to take off.

I can't get it to boot into the BIOS setup screen. Though I have previously been in there and even updated the BIOS.

I have pulled it apart to check for loose connections, dirt and dust and all appears ok.

What are my next steps or do I just write it off?

Looking on the Toshiba support website it would appear that it is still under warranty: - see below. I wonder if this is void now though.

It's worth pointing out that a few of the external ports are showing some sign or corrosion though the motherboard/battery and other internals all appear to be intact.

All thoughts/comments are welcome.

Thanks.

A:Portege Z830 - Stuck on Toshiba splash screen with fan

Hi
I guess the warranty isn’t valid anymore because you have already disassembled the notebook for cleaning…

Regarding the notebook’s booting problem: to me it looks like the issue could be related to hardware malfunction… if you are not able to access the BIOS and if the notebook freezes while showing the Toshiba logo, then the problem might be related to motherboard problems…

It seems that the POST (power on self-test) cannot be passed properly and usually this can be caused by motherboard (or parts like RAM) malfunction.

Hello everyone,

I upgraded the BIOS on my Z30-B-119 laptop, and it is much worst than the original BIOS so I would like to downgrade it.
There was no way to save the original BIOS when updating and the previous BIOS is not available on the website.

Do anyone have the original BIOS and knows how to extract it?

Or maybe someone knows how to contact Toshiba technical team directly? (Seeing what they implemented in new BIOS, I have no hopes they read this forum or care about user opinions.)

If you wonder why I want to downgrade and what is wrong with it, see below for explanation.

I was convinced that the new BIOS would fix the problem with the fan, which switched on way too early, but it turned out they made it much worst! Now the fan switches on at 42?. Before it was 50?, which was already a stupid choice of Toshiba engineers, providing that the temperature rating of this CPU is 105? so they could keep the laptop quiet at least up to 60?, especially that many people complain about the fan in this model. Instead, Toshiba did the opposite and lowered the temperature even more.

Seeing how senseless choices their engineers make, I will never buy another Toshiba and will not recommend anyone buying their products. But since I already made the mistake an bought a Toshiba laptop, I hope I will be able to downgrade the BIOS or contact them to ask for an update.

Let me know if you know how to do it.

You don?t need to change the booting device in BIOS.
You can also set it while notebook powering up.
Press F12 immediately after the notebook has been powered on
Then a boot menu should appear.
Here you have to choose ODD as booting device and should confirm with Enter.

Hi

The istall.exe should not crash and you should not update the BIOS in safe mode!
The Windows should be booted up and should run correctly!

Here is a Toshiba FAQ How to update BIOS:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm

Possibly the error code is related to corrupt windows OS or to missing some necessary Toshiba tools.
Using Win XP the Common Modules should be installed.
Using Vista or Win 7 the VAP (value added packed) should be installed.

A:Portege 4000 bios upgrade

The easiest way is to create a dos boot cd-rom. There are several descriptions on the web. Google for it.
Add the extracted Toshiba bios files biofc67t.com, ec29nobb.bin, chgbiosa.exe and chgfirma.exe to the CD-rom.

At first boot from the cd and run 'chgfirma ec29nobb.bin'.
Now the ECKBC-Firmware is written (don't power off during flash!!!)
Than boot again from cd and run 'chgbiosa biofc67t.com'.
This flashes the Bios.
Both flash are necessary!

Here is how to extract the Toshiba bios file.
At first you have to extract the R211VOL2.exe file. Easiest way to do so is to use 'universal extractor' -- google for it.
After this you will get the file R211VOL2.IMA. This is a floppy image file.
You can extract the single files in the archiv using winimage (trial version should work).

Good luck!

This means that BIOS can be updated from running system only and you need to run Windows OS in order to start the BIOS update procedure. Linux isn't supported in this case...

So many questions and most of them should be answered by technicians. I really think you need professional help. I recommend you to call nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
To be honest I don?t think you will be able to order this chip anywhere. Talk with service.

By the way: refurbished mainboard for Portege 2000/2010 with well working BIOS chip I found on eBay for 39 Euro so if you will not be able to do anything and repair BIOS buy new motherboard, exchange it and be happy.

By the way, I have Portege 2000 and it is really nice notebook.

I have a Portege 3010ct.
When i got it, it had Windows 98 installed on it but i wanted to put Linux on it so i could learn that.

So i tried getting into the Bios to make it boot from my CD but couldn't get into the Bios or really do anything. So in a final attempt i reformatted the hdd.

Now i can't get into anything.
Can anyone help?

I tried every button i thought might get me into the Bios and even tried hitting all of them, no one can seem to get me into it.

A:How to access the BIOS on Portege 3010ct

Hi

To access the BIOS you should use and press the ?ESC? button immediately after Portege was power up.

But as I understood you right, you want to boot from the internal CD/DVD drive.

Well, you could also try to press the ?C? button.
This would enable the booting from the ODD.

Furthermore pressing F12 button would allows you to enable the boot menu on the screen.
Then choose the CD/DVD drive to boot from CD .

Check it out

Hi!

I have a Portege 3440CT with bios version 1.50.

This version does not support large HDD so I thought I'd update the BIOS. (don't know if version 1.60 does either, does anyone know?)

When I try to run the bios-update-program on win2000, it says "Initial error", anyone know what's causing this?

BIOS is downloaded from Toshibas website.

I have no floppy or CD-rom available.
Have tried the updater on win98, and also in DOS and it says "this utility not available on v86 mode!"

Is there any way to place the BIOS file on a small hard drive, and boot from that?

Ideas, anyone?

A:Bios update on Portege 3440CT.

Sorry CyB but I really do not understand you. If you check Toshiba support page you will find two BIOS updates. Both of them must be done using FDD. So now I am asking myself why you try to do it under running operating system. Sorry but it is really ridiculous.

Toshiba provide two different BIOS updates. One is TRAD (must be done with FDD) and WIN (can be done under running WXP or now Vista). For old notebook models there is no WIN version.

Is there any way to place the BIOS file on a small hard drive, and boot from that?

As far as I know something like this is not possible and you can check eBay and obtain FDD. You can get it for few bucks. It is really not expensive.

I tried to Update the BIOS at my M700-110 PPM70E-02302DEN from 1.60 up to 1.80 (P005Bv180.exe).

However it fails with the error " BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack installed."

Within the "more information" I could read "OS independent".
Is the Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 not supported?

What's the matter?
Which BIOS is the right one for my system?

Please help me!
THanks a lot.

A:BIOS Update not possible for Portege M700

Hi

It seems that Vista OS was preinstalled on this notebook.
This means that you have installed the Win 7 system at your own hand.

The point is that BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba tools.
For example the Value Added Package is important software and should be preinstalled on the notebook.

Is VAP installed?
If not install the VAP before trying to update the BIOS.

Hi All,

I have a Toshiba Portege R830, running 32-bit Windows 7 (SP1) enterprise (for work).
I also boot into Linux Mint 14 64-bit, which I have installed on a portable USB HDD (outside work).

I recently bought a USB 3 HDD, but when I connect it to the USB 3 port on my R830, it only gives me USB 2 speeds (25 MB/s).

I checked with some diagnostic utilities (usbdeview, etc), which say that the drive is connected in USB 2.1 mode.

The drive reports itself as being USB 3, the cable is USB 3 (SuperSpeed), and the port I'm using on the R830 is 3.

I experience the same, whether I boot into windows or linux.

I updated all drivers on both OSs, to no avail.

next i tried to update the BIOS, but I keep getting the following error:
"An error occurred while preparing the update environment.
You have not given permission to execute the update."

For the record, this is the BIOS I'm going from, & to.
BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.80 --> Updated Ver.4.10
EC Version : Current Ver.1.10 --> Updated Ver.1.60

Does anyone know why I would not be getting USB 3 speeds (which, for my drive, are expected to be around 40 to 50 MB/s), or why all diagnostics are saying USB 2?

Does anyone know how to overcome the BIOS update issue?
(I've tried safe mode, disabling AV, disabling NX)

Cheers

I don't expect anyone to tell me how on-line!

Can I get this done 'professionally"?

Thanks in advance,

Folks,

I have been wrestling with this device for a while now and I seem to be progressively making the situation worse.

My current issue is that I can no longer access the BIOS after changing a setting in the BIOS that related to USB emulation (or something like that). I was in the process of trying to make the device boot from a USB and pretty much twiddling with every setting to see what would work.

This one didn't. And now the device no longer responds to F2. It's like it is ignoring the keyboard. Doh!

Is there some way to roll back or re-flash the BIOS? Or another way to access it? I tried an external keyboard, to no avail.

How did I get here?

Well ... I was given this device to put back to factory condition and I could not find an obvious option that would do this, other than the Toshiba Maintenance Utility which looked hopeful. It offered to erase the partition (which at the time seemed fair enough) - BUT THAT"S all it did - so the machine just repeatedly boots, displays "Please insert system disk" and then reboots.

OK, I'm an idiot - but it does seem silly for Toshiba to offer an option that instantly bricks the machine?

Anyway, I've moved on from that problem to one that is significantly more dire. Not being able to access the BIOS means I don't have any options - unless one of you wonderful people can help me discover one.

Had a go at installing this, and all is fine apart from installing the Value Added Package - the main thing I want to get working is the function keys for screen brightness and connecting a TV.

I understand that upgrading the BIOS can help getting the VAP installed ( I get the ID ERR NOTINSTALLTVALZ message), I know that Toshiba are not directly supporting the A100 for Vista but is there a BIOS I can install that will work? I'm thinking there might be a similar machine that works in Vista or maybe just an A100 BIOS that will suffice?

Many thanks!

A:Vista on Portege A100 - Can I update the BIOS?

Hi

May I ask where did you found the Vista Value Added Package for Portege A100?
I didn?t find this Value Added Package on the Toshiba Europe site.

There are only 3 files for Vista. One of the files is BIOS v1.60-WIN which seems to be OS-independent.

Regarding the BIOS;
You should know that the BIOS update is always risky.
If you will use wrong BIOS version or wrong BIOS update procedure you can damage the motherboard!!!
?and as you probably know the motherboard is one of the expensive notebook parts!!!
It?s not worth to trying something which can damage the notebook. You know?

Hi there,

My Portege A600-13Y BIOS is version 1.50:

- should I upgrade to 2.00WIN?
- I found this source for the biso upgrade 2.0 but there is no indication that this file is authentic TOSHIBA bios.
No checksums, no ssl certificate, nothing. Is it possible to get it in a secured / authenticated way?

Thanx for answers,
Schneiderlein

A:Re: Portege A600-13Y: BIOS update 1.50 to 2.00-WIN - How risky it is?

Hi

First of all you should use and download the BIOS files only from Toshiba website.
The Portege A600-13Y PPA61E is a Toshiba European notebook model and all the drivers and BIOS can be found on the Toshiba driver page.

I don?t know why you ask for the checksums or ssl certificate? the Toshiba websites are safe?
but everyone who needs the drivers or BIOS can download it?

You should only ensure that you have chosen the right notebook model and that you have downloaded the right BIOS!

But why you want to update the BIOS?
If your notebook is running troublefree then a BIOS update is not important? I follow always this advice; never change a running system.

Hi,

I purchased an M400 Tablet system and having a lot of trouble with the BIOS.

I am able to get into the BIOS, but it appears to be restricted.
It says there are three pages and to use the pgup and pgdn to change pages, this does not work.

I have tried it with a USB keyboard and removing the keyboard from the tablet, but this does not work either.
The laptop does not have SWSetup installed on it. I downloaded this from the website but say's that the BIOS is incorrect.

I then decided to flash the BIOS.
Downloaded windows BIOS flash and that say's that the BIOS is incorrect.

I would like to reinstall the OS but at the moment I am unable to to get it to boot from the CD as I can't change the boot sequence.

Can any one please help me.

Secondly it?s interesting to know if some passwords (user or supervisor password) have been set because such kind of password could restrict changing the BIOS options.

Hello,
I have a Portege Z830 with BIOS version 1.60. It runs a single operating system, ubuntu, (without a windows OS it does not appear to be possible to upgrade the BIOS). I have a bootable USB (debian, created by copying an .iso image using dd) which works on other computers, but not on this one. With USB at the top of the boot priority, it is not recognized as a bootable device and the computer boots from the HDD. The boot is in legacy mode, not UEFI (there is no UEFI/legacy switch in the BIOS menu).

Any pointers how to enable a boot from a USB on this computer?

Thanks and kind regards,

James

A:1.60 BIOS does not recognise bootable USB in Portege Z830

As you probably know, Toshiba doesn't support Linux so you cannot upgrade BIOS under Linux OS.
It is also not offered to be installed from USB.

It works like application and must be executed under running Windows.

The second one: I cannot install Windows XP on to notebook (it does not boot neither FDD-USB, nor External DVD-USB).
How can I install Windows?

A:Portege 3410 - How to update BIOS and install XP?

Hi

Just one question: Why do you want to update the BIOS? Is it really necessary?
I ask this because this update is always a little bit risky and you could damage the ROM module.
Anyway, have you tried to load default settings in BIOS before you start the update and install XP?

You can install XP without CD. Therefore you must copy the i386 folder on the HDD from another computer and some booting files for HDD? I think you should search a little bit with Google to find workaround for this. You should find enough! ;)

Maybe it sounds stupid but I think you should clarify this with nearest Toshiba service provider.
I use Toshiba notebooks for years now and I know for sure that Toshiba doesn?t sell notebooks with any kind of password or such kind of protection.

If you have such amount of notebooks maybe there was some special dial about configuration or protection. Anyway, BIOS password removal cannot be theme on such public forum. BIOS password protection is very important security feature and if there is some problem it must be clarified with authorized Toshiba service provider.

BIOS password cannot be set or changed from alone and, as far as I know, there is no kind of factory reset. I just know that BIOS can be set to default settings. That?s all.

Hello Forum,

i have exactly the same problem as described here, 2 years ago:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65519

I need to update my BIOS, but i cant because the BIOS Updater tells me that Intel-TXT is enabled.
Unfortunatelly i cant disable it in my bios. Its just not selectable. The "cursor" just jumps over it.
I can only "Hide" it which doesnt help.
I have the same for the VT-d and VT-x setting in the BIOS. This is not selectable or changeable as well.

TPM isnt enabled though...
I installed the infineon suite and it tells me that i need to enable TPM in bios to use it. :-(

I have an very old Bios Version 3.1 and i read in the changelog that in V3.4 and 3.5 there were many TPM related changes....

Anyway....
Back then, a user named Paolo30 uploaded a file P007Dv360A_EC77V140.zip to 2shared.com which fixed this.
Unfortunatelly this file was deleted on 2shared.com

can someone please provide that file (or a later bios update) which fixes this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

how can I update my BIOS when using Ubuntu Linux?

The reason why I'd like to update my BIOS is that on the one hand Ubuntu
writes an error message during boot-up and recommends to upgrade it and on
the other hand I'm afraid that there is maybe a temperature problem, at least the
notebook becomes slower after working for a while.

The notebook operating temperature usually is between 45-64 degrees.
The fan turns on at 62 degrees and turns off at 52 degrees.

Temperature seems to be pretty normal I would say but I think its not normal that the
notebook becomes slower when operating above 50 degrees.

I already opened it, it seems to be all right with the cooling unit, no dirt e.g...

Maybe I just persuade myself I and the performance is completely normal for a PIII with

What is your motherboard model?
If your mobo supports it, there are some cheap 933MHz -1.0 Ghz P3's, but I don't know if Newegg, Bestbuy or Walmart would have CPU's like those.

Hi,

I encountered some problem with my netbook (Portege M800-10W) after updating BIOS.
The BIOS updating program seems to failed. Then my Netbook automatically restarted and now I can't start my PC anymore.
All the LEDs turns on, but the sreen remain black and after few minutes, the netbook beep 3 times (1 long, 2 short).

How can I restore the BIOS to the previous version (or factory version) ?

Thanks.

Adrien

A:Portege M800 doesn't startup anymore after updating BIOS

I think that error code means there is a Graphical/Video problem. The Mainboard or VGA Board may need replacing, or there may be a loose connection.

I would send the notebook to an ASP for repair.

I checked the user manual which you can download from the Toshiba user manual page and the END button seems to be located in the upper right corner? it?s above the ?Backspace? button.

try the update to v3.60 before trying the v3.90

By the way: Does VAP (value added package) is installed properly? This package is very important for BIOS update

USB boot option seems to have disappeared from bios boot sequence menue after I installed bios 3.00. I wonder why this happened and how I can bring it back.

A:Portege A600 - Dissapearing of USB boot option after updating to bios 3.00

Hello,

normally the USB boot option is available and you can select the supported modi in the bios settings.
In a company environment it is possible to disable USB as boot device with some special tools. In this Case yo ushould ask your administrator.
If you are a single private customer you should visit an ASP.

Hi,

I have an Old Portege A100, Model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find that model on any Toshiba website, closest I've seen is the " PPA10A-0002L".

I'm wanting to see if there's a BIOS update that will allow me to Boot from a USB Device.

The issue I am having is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cant read discs.
It does Network Booting PXE, but i'm new to this sort of thing and have absolutly no idea what to do there.

Any help would be great,

Thanks

A:Portege A100 PPA10A - Will BIOS update allow to boot from a USB device

Hi

Portege A100 seems to be developed only for Australian market.
As you said there is a Portege A100 PPA10A-0002L model number listed on the Toshiba Australian page but the Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A.
So in my opinion the BIOS should work too.

Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add any further booting options.

Usually the BIOS support the booting from CD/DVD drive, HDD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a bootable diskette using an USB FDD drive.
I doubt you would be able to boot from USB ODD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.

It is not at all necessary.

At the same time, if all of the software and peripherals you use will work under x64, there is no reason not to upgrade.

On HP's advice, I just updated the BIOS on my laptop. It's currently stuck at Verifying New Bios Image, and it's at 100% - It's been stuck that way for a half-hour plus. Any advice? What should I do?

Hi,

yesterday i set the bios/supervisor password.

When i now turn on the notebook, i can see the Toshiba - Leading innovations screen and then it goes dark and won't boot any further.

The harddisk / fan / graphics card etc is working - but i don't see anything nor do i get some kind of prompt or shell or whatsoever.

I tried all those "Press, ESC, Press F2, Press F1, Press INS" stuff, nothing worked out.
I removed the battery for several mins while pressing the power button, nothing.

Maybe somebody has some kind of clue whats wrong with this maschine....

A:Portege R830-1EE: Supervisor / Bios password - No Boot or login prompt

Hi

Did you use some high ASCII character like ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? etc in your BIOS / Supervisor password?

In the past the usage of such characters prevented the notebook from booting up.
In such case you had to contact the service partner in order to solve this problem.

Portege R830/PT321E: Bios Update stops with "An error occurred while preparing the update environment..."

Following message seems at first

BIOS Version: Current Ver. 3.40 -> Updated Ver. 3.70
EC Version: Current Ver. 1.30 -> Updated Ver. 1.50
Bios and EC should be updated

During the BIOS update seems following message:

+An error occurred while preparing the update environment. You have not given permission to execute the update.+

My settings:
- BitLocker is switched off.
- No connection to a docking station
- Windows 7 is installed
- Boot mode is on? I guess it means:
"Closes all open programs, shut down windows, and then turns off your computer."

Any idea what the problem is?

I have 2 sticks of 1gb 800mhz each ram on my computer thus 2gb ram in all.

Now I bought another set of 2 sticks of 1gb PC 6200 ram to add to the same system.
The store didnt have the same type of ram I have on my system ( 800mhz ) so they told me this PC 6200 sticks are same as 800mhz just that different manufacturers write either the PC6200 or the 800mhz.
On adding this ram, I notice slowness in response from the system.

Any ideas whats happening? Is it true that these PC6200 and 800mhz Ram are same in speed?

Appreciate your answers

A:Solved: Is 600mhz Ram same as PC 6200 ram?

6200 divided by 8 is 775, which is an odd number and not a common speed. You sure its not PC2-6400 which is 800Mhz? PC2-6400 is 800Mhz, PC-6400/PC2-6400 is the module name.

Hi,

Out of curiosity what would happen if I installed the following in a machine:
- 1x1GB 800Mhz RAM
- 1x2GB 600Mhz RAM

Would the two different Mhz's cause any problems?

Thanks in advance,
Ashley

A:RAM 800Mhz and 600Mhz combination?

Hi Ashley,

No, that shouldn't cause a problem. However, your memory will run at the speed of the slowest module you have installed. For best results, you should ensure that all RAM modules are identical.

Hello,

I have noticed that my laptop (Inpiron 1520) has suddenly became incredibly slow. After hours of investigation, I noticed that CPU-z is showing that my processor is not running at max. Please see the following screenshot

As you can see, the multiplier is always stuck at 3.0X, I have checked and my laptop is running at "high Performance". I also checked my BIOS, which is updated to the latest revision, and Speedstep is enabled. What is interesting is that when I turn off speedstep, which means that the laptop runs at lowest performance, CPU-z shows that the laptop is running at 1 Ghz at different multipliers > 4, which is still not my maximum speed.
I do have the latest chipset drivers and I tried many things with no avail. I would highly appreciate any help...
I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware related issue....

Thank you in advance.

Below are my computer specs:

A:Processor seems stuck....

Slowness is almost never due to a processor, except when a mobile processor goes into an energy-saving mode. Since your CPU is rated at 2.2 GHz, it is not possible for multipliers greater than 4 unless the clock speed were lower than 2.2/4. And any software that provides data about these values can be mistaken, and often is.

You'd be better off checking the power options and the startups with HijackThis before assuming a processor problem. Any new processes that you haven't seen before? Any that are unneeded? Any infections (antivirus typically catches only 70% of threats)?

My question is if i can switch from the original pentium II to a pentium III processsor.

If yes can you tell me how? If no, thanks for your time.

I thank you all for you time.

A:Upgrade the processor of Portege 3110ct from Pentium II to Pentium III

No, it?s ABSOLUTELY NOT POSSIBLE.

The pentium 2 architecture is completely and totally DIFFERENT so I think its better for you to buy another machine than thinking about this.

It?s absolutely impossible and thats the fact.

I have a pcchips M765VMRT and just flashed to 3/30/00 bios.64 meg sdram pc133, 600mhz Piii with 512 cache, shows 133mhz on top of chip. If I pull the jumper to enable 133mhz bus I get no video, with 100mhz bus on boots fine but no matter what speed I set in bios it will only boot to 450mhz. I am using a pci matrox mystique card, could this be part of the problem?

Help.

A:{RESOLVED} 600mhz PIII will only detect as a 450mhz!!!???

I'm afraid your board (BTW, there's no V in it) can't support any P3 above 450. Not to criticize, but do a little research when your pairing your CPU w/ a motherboard. A chipset such as the 440ZX (the chipset of your motherboard) can't suppport high processor speeds.
