Q: Satellite Pro U400 BIOS update failed - What is BIOS Boot-block access

My last BIOS update has failed and now my laptop Satellite PrU400 PSU45E is out of order.
I want to use the Crisis Recovery Disk with an USB floppy drive but I don't know the key combination to run the boot-block.
Is anybody can help me?

Best regards

A: Satellite Pro U400 BIOS update failed - What is BIOS Boot-block access

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400 (PSU41E) running Windows 7 x64 and I have been trying to update the BIOS to version 4.70 for 4.00.

Every time I try to do so from Windows using WinPhlash that is bundled with the download from the Toshiba site it seems to freeze when trying to flash the new BIOS.
I have logged in as the local administrator, tried using other flash programs and even tried doing so from a USB flash disk with no luck.

Can someone please help me and explain how I can update the BIOS?

A:How to update BIOS on Satellite Pro U400?

Sounds like you need the Toshiba Value Added Package installed (specifically for U400 and Win7 64bit), or your Antivirus Software is blocking the update.

You can find the updated Win7 drivers here:

Hi everyone,

I have a SATELLITE U400-10O (PSU40E-00R00EG3). It's an older product, but once which I still love an use regularly.

Recently, I have purchased a battery upgrade for this device. Unfortunately, the Laptop won't recognize it. The battery works, but I don't get any information on the charging level. I have tried various 'resetting' tricks (deleting Microsoft ACPI from the installed drivers list, running down the battery completely etc.).

I believe the BIOS could be outdated and I would like to update it. Unfortunately, the Toshiba Support website does not list any updates for it anymore. Does anyone still have access to the BIOS updates for this?

The BIOS is a Phoenix currently at version 4.70.

A:BIOS Update for Satellite U400-10O Required

N my opinion BIOS has nothing to do with it. Battery can be replaced and if you use compatible batteries they should be recognized properly. Here is the list of all compatible batteries:

Have you bought one of them and original Toshiba product (Toshiba label) or some no-name product?

Hello everyone!

I update the BIOS on my laptop and something went wrong, not now turn a laptop screen.

I went to see the web for Chris Bios recover.
Have available more than 20 versions, but so far no success.

My biggest problem is - I can not save to floppy disk 2 MB BIOS. All attempts to make a boot
flash or SD ended in failure.

The laptop is: Satellite pro U400 PSU45E

Please help me ... the laptop reads the floppy in BIOS with little experience (those that come with Chris Bios 500 KB - 1000 KB) begins with a normal boot beep signals supposedly provided a definition blocks then baar both short beep and do nothing ..
there must be something ... DOS BIOS small size, USB emulator .. BIOS to be torn down so it is possible charging of USB, SD ...

Every idea can be useful!

Thank you very much

Unfortunately? if something went wrong during the BIOS update, then you will not be able to solve this without an help from an ASP technician?

Hopefully the BIOS ROM module is not damage?
In worst case the mobo is damage but maybe it?s not damaged?

However?. You have to get in contact with an local ASP and should ask for further handling!

Im working on a Toshiba Laptop A105-4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS, so I didnt know what else to do but shut it off. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows. Other options available on this screen are Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar changing to "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53; (looks like its running POST and recognizes CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. What is my best course of action?:

- shorting out the CMOS battery (I've tried this on the solder pads marked C88, with no laptop battery, with and without the wi-fi, ram and hdd installed; Im either doing it wrong or its just not working )
- trying to reflash BIOS chip (I tried this; turned the laptop on and held down the 'c' key to boot from cd, but still got stuck at the same place)
- replacing the BIOS chip
- something else?

Any guidance or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

Yesterday I did a fresh install of Windows 7 64-Bit and updated the laptop. The BIOS update sadly froze the PC and I had to shut it down. As one would expect... the Laptop didnt start.

When I press the poweer button, the Powerbutton and the Satellite Nameplate lights up and I get one long beep followed by two short beeps + the screen remains black.

Could someone tell me the key combination I need to press in order to enter the recovery mode to reflash the BIOS?

Does anyone know if I need a floppy USB drive to reflash the BIOS or if flashing from a USB thumb drive is possible... I dont see how I could fit a 2,3 MB Bios file on a 1,44 MB floppy disc.

A:Satellite P300-212 (PSPCCE) - BIOS update failed

There is no BIOS recovery mode that you can enter by pressing a key combination. Therefore special BIOS recovery tools are necessary they are compatible to the notebook.

That means the ROM module where BIOS is stored can only be reflashed from an authorized service provider because the guys have special tools for this.

Please get in contact with the technicians, they will help to sort this out: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Good luck! :)

I know this is is quite old computer, but until now it was just enough good for my usage.
Anyway, after I have done a recovery of the Windows Vista OS that came with my computer, I got a notification from one of Toshiba tools that there is an updated BIOS available for my computer.
I've downloaded it and tried to perform an update. After the process had (probably) finished, the computer did not react to touchpad and keyboard. I was not sure if the update was really successful, especially because it looked like the computer was is frozen state. So I left it for next +/- 30 minutes but no change.
Then I decided to reset it as even the power button was not working. So I had to remove the battery and unplug the AC power.

... and the computer was (almost) dead then.

Now it is so that when I press the power button it seems to power up, but the screen remains blank, the fan is working and Windows is not booting. It just makes one short scratching noise from the DVD drive and this is all.

My question is, what is the recovery procedure in my situation ? I've tried to look for some potential help on the Internet and I found some forum posts or articles stating that there are some recovery procedures for different BIOSes, but what is the procedure for my BIOS ? The only thing that I found "working" was that if I press the power button holding Fn+Esc keys, the laptop powers on with flashing power button. But how to force BIOS recovery flashing procedure ?

This is really stupid situation now. You will not be able to fix it with some simple recovery operation. BIOS is screwed up.
In the past I was not faced with such situation but on this forum I found very interesting thread about BIOS ?recovering?. Please take some time and visit this thread.

My sister asked me to update her laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16N; Part number PSC0ME-01S00SEN) from Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) to Windows 8 (64-bit).
So I did.

Then I went to Toshiba's UK website to check if there were any drivers I needed to install for Windows 8. The only one was a BIOS update (to BIOS v1.70). I have no idea what the previous BIOS version number was.

So I run the update application within Windows 8. Phoenix Technologies WinPhlash starts and then halfway through the update, the whole thing freezes.

The trackpad wouldn't move the cursor or anything. I had no option but to unplug the laptop from the wall and remove the battery. The laptop is not under warranty.

Of course, now it won't turn on. It beeps once when I press the power button, but the system doesn't turn on. A couple of minutes later, it sounds one long beep then two short beeps. It then keeps repeating this "one long beep, two short beeps" sequence every couple of minutes.

I have Googled and read website after blog after forum post, but nothing works. The links to the software suggested on these websites/blogs/forums are usually dead, so I cannot try what they suggest.

The most common solution is the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Tool. I have managed to download v1.0.0.4 which is supposed to enable me to make a bootable USB key. The version of this tool that I have downloaded is meant to be for a Lenovo ThinkPad X200. I have the correct BIOS.rom for the Satelli... Read more

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Hello Chris

You know very well that BIOS password is very important security feature so we cannot discuss about this in public forum. At least you cannot expect that we can discuss about it on Toshiba forum.

BIOS password is important for many notebook owners who want to protect their notebooks and saved data. This explanation here can be abused and every stolen notebook with BIOS protection can be ?unlocked?.

Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this.

1. Insert your windowsinstallation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair yourconputer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Try to repair the OS using HDD recovery;

Then choose repair my computer and then choose HDD recovery.

If this is not possible, order the recovery disk from here:

HP Media Center

Even if the BIOS is not up to date, the notebook should work fine and should boot the Windows OS.

I updated the BIOS of my Satellite C50-B-14D (PSCMLE) to 5.10 (latest one, release early Sep. 2015).
The update was successful, and the laptop works as long as I don't install the wireless card drivers (Atheros AR9485).
If I try to install the driver (it does not matter which ones, those from Toshiba's website or those from the manufacturer's), the laptop freezes before the installer completes.
Installing the drivers from device manager makes the laptop freeze on when booting Windows (I tried 7, 8.1 and 10).
It freezes completely on the Windows logo screen, and I have to power it down.

Also, the wired network card is no longer detected (it does not show in device manager).
The same issue is described here ( but no solution.

Any suggestion? Can the BIOS be downgraded? The BIOS update utility won't flash an older version.

A:Satellite C50B freezes on boot after BIOS update to 5.10

Hi Fabril,

I am also have the exact same issue since updating my BIOS to 5.10 with my Toshiba C50-B-14D PSC MLE

I have to boot windows in safe mode without networking to disable the Atheros AR9485 before restarting again in normal mode.
I now have to use an external WiFi adapter as my LAN port is now also missing!

Upset that the BIOS update has broken all my on board networking on the laptop.

I have tried updating the Atheros drivers to the latest version but as soon as the device is enabled again the system hangs and we are back to square one.

There is no fix I can find other than disabling the device and living without built in WiFi + LAN.

Hopefully Toshiba can fix this with a new BIOS update?

Hi everyone. Please help out here. I have an HP Pavilion G6-1d40ca. It crashed the other day while I was using it, and when I restarted it, it went to BIOS update. It froze while updating, and died in itself (I think the battery died, it wasn't plugged in. I never knew about BIOS update, so I wasn't expecting for the battery to die during the update, so I didn't plug it in.) Second time, booted it up (it was plugged in this time), and went into BIOS update once again. All's good, was able to use the laptop for about five minutes, then it crashed once again. Now, when I boot it up, nothing comes up on the screen. No nothing. The power button is on, the wi-fi is on, the LED light is blinking non-stop, more than 6 times than what is referred to the HP website.

I tried doing the remove battery and adapter, press power button for 30 seconds, plug it in without the battery, but to no avail. I also did the whole win+B, but doesn't work either. What LED light is blinking nonstop?

Can you boot into HP Factory Recovery: HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You can try these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot which will tell you if you can boot a disk to do repairs. If so besides links to the Win7 installer to use for repairs, there are also links to HD and RAM bootable CD tests to check your hardware.

But if this cannot get traction quickly what I would do with such a new rig is call HP Tech Support and have them walk you through steps to determine if it should be returned or if there is a known issue.

I tried generic reset with holding the power button but it failed.
I tried to boot from repair disk- nothing.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the laptops bios is corrupt. You could try and remove the battery and then push the power button for 30 seconds, then replace the battery and try to power up again

I've updated Toshiba Satellite C660D-16E (PSC20E) with BIOS version 1.60 and it updated without error. BIOS version file is DELHI10AB_10ABG_BIOS_160_WIN. When it rebooted it was a blank screen and bricked. I've tried to find older bios for this laptop and use wincrisis to recover the bios. It responds to holding FN+B keys while poweron without batrtery and LED on USB drive flashes for a while but that is it :/

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... When this PC has sat in a releativly cool enviroment, it will boot up just fine. But let it get warmed up good, say having it on for 5-8 minutes and it will not boot up!

It gives the "Award Boot Block BIOS V1.0" and will not go any further.

The BIOS is "Award Modular" Version 6.00P

Do I have a chipset problem? Do I just need to update the BIOS?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I recieved recently message from Toshiba Service Software that I could (should) update my BIOS.(1.20) to BIOS 1.50 . My Satellite L50-C is just few weeks old. Do anybody recomend me to do that or is not necessary to take such a risk that my Laptop will not work after upgrading?
Many Thanks and best regards from Austria

A:Satellite L50-C - BIOS Update 1.50

Well, I have a L50D-C and the BIOS updates solved a few issues that I was having on startup. Your model is slightly different so I don't know what issues you may have if any. Unless your system suffers from some sort of I/O software issue I wouldn't recommend it. Every BIOS behaves differently to all hardware and you may want to upgrade your hardware later. You will likely need to match it with the best BIOS available if that happens and it's important to note that you can't downgrade your BIOS(Not easily at least). So keep the BIOS you have for now until you notice some hardware issues when upgrading hardware or software drivers.

I installed a dual-boot Ubuntu/Windows 8.
I disabled the UEFI mode, in order to install Ubuntu. But now, I don't have access to Windows anymore, and I can't go to the BIOS menu to enable the UEFI mode...

I tried all the combinations possible (F2, ESC, F12, F10, F8, SUPPR, ...) and none of them open the BIOS menu.

How can I have access to the BIOS ? Is there any secret combination that I haven't tried yet ?

There is a BIOS update for Satellite Pro S300 series, although no change log so not sure what it fixes.

Down here from Toshiba

A:BIOS update for Satellite Pro S300

One change with the new BIOS is the 3G blue LED. This is now on constant blue when the 3G adapter is enabled but not connected to a network, and when connected now flashes constanty at about 2Hz, which is very annoying as it's in the corner of your eye when using the laptop.

I'd rather this was the other way around, so it flashes when on and no connection which is a nice warning that you have perhaps lost the mobile signal, and when connected it is on permanently, or on permanently but flashes off as traffic is transferred.

Do Toshiba read these forums?

Can I install this version on my laptop?

I want to be very secure before install that because I do not want to spoil it now...

Can somebody help me?

A:BIOS update for Satellite M70-165 with Windows7

First of all thanks for your report about Win7 installation on this old Satellite notebook. I had it long time ago and I was very happy with it using WXP.
Until now on this forum nobody has reported about M70 and Win7 so there is no much info about that.
Fact is that this old piece of hardware is not supported for Win7 and if you have installed and configured it successfully don't change anything. Leave it as it is.

BIOS update is not important and will not help to make your notebook better as it is. Don't change BIOS at all.

The BIOS update is an very serious update and should be done very carefully?

Since long time Toshiba offers WIN BIOS update only. That means that you can make BIOS update starting it in running Windows OS only. To be honest I don't think that windows update will help you to solve your problem.

Hi all,

I have the problem that my laptop doesn't boot 9 out of 10 times with the message: *Bios block 1 is damaged, call your service man.*

I want to update the BIOS but for the Satellite Pro 6000 I can only find a Windows BIOS update. But my laptop doens't boot! Rarely the machine boot up, but when I try to update the BIOS, I get the message that I already have the latest BIOS

My questions:
* Is there a BIOS update file that makes a BIOS floppy? (for example the Satellite Pro 6100 has 2 BIOS files, 1 Windows and 1 that makes a floppy)
* Is there a way to update the BIOS with the same version in Windows ?

Or maybe there is another solution for this problem? That I didnt need to update my BIOS?

Thank you.

A:Satellite Pro 6000 - How to update the BIOS?

I don?t understand your problem. The error message says everything that you should contact a service man or centre so why you want to try updating the BIOS? Furthermore if a BIOS block is damaged I can?t imagine that a BIOS update will help you. I think the ROM module is destroyed and must be replaced.

So please contact the nearest authorized service provider on the Toshiba website. I think they can help and say what you should regarding this problem.

like we can read here:

"The GTF0/1 is not defined anywhere, but referenced in _SDD control method. When this control method gets run, it will access the GTF0/1, and that caused a run time namespace look up error, and that also caused the control method's execution failed. Hi, First of all, this is first post.

I have 2 satellite L50-A-160 with bios 1.1

Problem: seems to go to sleep after couple of minutes even while working on them (same with both)

So I found an update 1.9, downloaded and run on one of the laptops. the biosupdate tool found matching bios and did a run.
In middle of flashing it went to sleep. turned on and no boot. what can I do? Any recovery options? i guess the same will happen with the other too..

What is wrong with these computers?

besides; very poor battery, alway shows 0 percent availiable and not charging..
Do anyone have any solutions?

Best Regards
--still hoping--

A:Satellite L50-A-160 does not start after Bios update

Have you tried to change it in Power Options?

see screenshot and try to change the ones I have marked (it may refresh the settings, just change the values) and observe if this solved the problem.

and for the other laptop with no boot, a laptop sleeping while updating bios will surely mess it.

what I cant understand is why your laptop sleep at BIOS update, as far as I know sleep settings is only active while on windows(since this is controlled by windows)
it should not sleep while in BIOS even you leave it for 1year, sleep settings only activates after loading windows.

have you tried checking the temps of your laptops processor? maybe its overheating causing auto-off

I've tried Acer's crisis disk facility with the correct version of BIOS on a usb stick at boot up (pressing Fn Esc) but no go.

On several occasions HP Support Assistant has notified a BIOS upgrade available.  All have churned for a while, then reported that the update was unsuccesfull. I find this alarming to say the least, as BIOS updates are both critical, and potentially disastrous. Can you tell me why you keep on submitting updates that do not work? Should I bother to keep on trying to install them, or just consign them directly to the trash bin? This is a relatively new (this year) PC, and I find this severely undermines my confidence in the technical abilities of HP as a hardware provider. Windows 10ADSL then Ethernet cable (not wifi)18Meg down/1Meg upOS and Drivers kept up to date

I have been given a Satellite Pro 4600, unfortunately this laptop has 2 and a half operating systems on it. The first one is MS2000, then XP then an unfinished installation of XP. When I start up the laptop it asks which OS I want to use. I have a full legal copy of XP that I have bought and I want to reformat the laptop and put on a clean install of XP, the problem is how do I get into the BIOS to change boot settings to CD?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:How to access BIOS settings on Satellite Pro 4600?

First of all you don?t need to access the BIOS in order to be able to boot from the CD.
You can simply press the F12 button immediately after the notebook has been powered up.
This would show the available boot options.

You can also press C button which would automatically enable the CD/DVD drive as booting source.

I downloaded the bios update tool to update my bios from 3.1 to 4.7
[BIOS 4.7| =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=198&selProduct=776&selSho rtMod=721&language=13&selOS=30&selType=all&yearupl oad=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=all Machines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=8&se lectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=1&ID=77400&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42]

Tried to run it under windows 8 64bit, but it stops at "Flashing bios". Then I tried to run it under windows 7 64 bit, but the result was the same. Tried to leave it for a night, but it was still "flashing bios" after 8 hours. I had to reboot everytime.

Any idea how I can flash the bios?

A:Equium U400 - Bios won't flash

Equium U400 is not Win supported, therefore I don?t think that you could upgrade the BIOS from Win 8.

As far as I know BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba software which needs to be installed.
For example the Toshiba value added package has to be installed in order to start the BIOS update.
I think you have goo channes to update the BIOS running the notebook with factory settings. I mean using the system preinstalled by Toshiba.

But why you want to update the BIOS?
BIOS should be updated as last possibility to solve notebook problems.

I am having problems with direct booting into Windows 8 installed into a VHDX file.
This is a four-partition UEFI boot on a GPT drive. EFI files are residing on a second partition of disk 0 (the ESP partition) in the EFI folder. The boot virtual disk is residing on the fourth partition of that disk 0.
When I turn on the PC, it shows black screen after the BIOS POST screen. No Windows 8 boot menu, no other information is displayed. However, if I press Shift+F12 (or F12) to start Dell BIOS Boot Menu and choose Windows Boot Manager from the UEFI part of
the boot menu, Windows 8 starts to boot without difficulties.
How do I make Windows to boot automatically without having to select Windows Boot Manager in DELL BIOS boot menu?
I believe I messed up with boot sector somehow... What needs to be fixed provided that Windows 8 will boot into VHDX file?
Thank you.

The computer wont start.   After pressing "ON" one can hear a vibration sound, it turns on an orange LED.   Stays black for two  minutes; then screen does light to a dim night-blue color.     This is for a Split x2 13-g110dx (windows 10 64bit). Already tried:  hard reset and going to BIOS (Windows button + "B"). Also tried booting from  a USB drive.   It did not work (see screen below). Any suggestion(s) of how it can still be revived ("do it myself")? Thank you.                                       Screen message

I have a feeling that my bios has been wiped. While on-line performing a download my screen began flickering and the laptop shutdown. I now have power in the laptop but absolutely nothing on the screen. I have tried holding 'o' at powering up and and also f2 to get to bios aswell as FN f5 to try another monitor all to no avail, which has drawn me to the conclusion of an infected bios. Is there any way I can replace bios without going to a store. Bear in mind I have absolutely no visuals on the laptop. Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

A:BIOS update / installation for Satellite C series

Sounds like the LCD has detached from the mainboard. If you connect an external monitor can you see the image?

if not, send the notebook to a Toshiba Service Center for repair.

Hi all

I have upgraded BIOS to the newest 2.7 version and LAN network card just vanished from my device list. The wireless network card works fine though. When I plug ethernet cable in, the green light comes on but orange one not, so I take it it is not broken as it worked fine before BIOS update.

I have tried different lan drivers and Windows XP and still nothing.Any ideas please?

I have Windows 7 x64 installed.

A:Satellite X200-20S - LAN is not working after BIOS update

Is LAN option listed in BIOS boot menu?

If you have tested it with Win7 and WXP maybe you should make last test and install original Toshiba recovery image that you got with your notebook and see what happen when you use notebook with ?factory settings?.

We bought our oldest son this: laptop in December for his birthday. He got it on 12/22 (purchased Cyber Monday from Amazon) and yesterday he told me it was not working. Asking he said it turns on, power light on front and fan comes on but won't boot up past there and nothing displays on the screen. We tried putting in the restore DVD we made when he got it but nothing. It powers on and off with the power button but nothing else. I went to Amazon to check and see about warranty and what my options might be and when I went to the page where I bought the laptop I see there are now about 20 negative reviews by people who recieved a notice from Toshiba to update the BIOS and after the update the laptop is doing what my son's is. Most say that neither Toshiba or Amazon is of any help. So I asked my son if he tried to update the BIOS and he said yes. Now I am wondering if I should try and contact Amazon since I've had the machine under 3 months, Toshiba, or try to repair it on my own or a computer repair place. I am typing this question on a Toshiba laptop purchased 2 years ago that I absolutely love and have never been prompted to update the BIOS. Confused and looking for advice.

Hello to all,

I have a Toshiba laptop which requested to Update into the new bios ,from 1.40 to 1.60 so i pressed Okay, all went well all green at 100% , it restarted and from then i have black screen.

I searched around the internet and i saw many people with the same laptop as mine ,to have the same problem ,i think it's problem from Toshiba (out of warranty product).

I have found that the only bios file that i get from the european site is the 1.60
So i download it , i extract it to use with crisis but inside i see 2 folders

DIS (inside has bios.rom and ec.rom)
UMA (inside has bios.rom and ec.rom)

Don't know what to use, or how do i get it alive ,any help ?

I tried with both folders with all the necessary things.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 and i need to update the bios cause of a cpu change.
The laptop working great but for some reason with the new cpu the fan is always running full.

I searched a lot but nothing found.
The Model No is PSAC1E-0QL04CG3 any ideas where i can find the bios ?

Thx in advance,

A:Satellite Pro A120: Need to update BIOS after CPU upgrade

First of all: BIOS update doesn?t help you.
Why do you think that BIOS update should help you to reduce the fan activity?

I assume your new CPU is faster. Right?
So it provides more performance and this leads to higher heat dissipation... so finally the CPU has to be cooled down and this can be done only if the cooling module would rotate faster? you agree with me?

By the way: the BIOS update can be found on Toshiba EU driver page. Since the Sat Pro A120 is very old series, you have to search for drivers in Archive area (Product Type -> Archive)

I have two problems with updating the BIOS (the 1st is more important then the 2nd one):

1. While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:
"The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS"
and it stops. In the DOS window it shows one phrase:
"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit system but recently there has been major automatic update done to it.
I got lost. Is there anything I can do to update BIOS?

2. Earlier it says that Flash process will be terminated and I need to "contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the NV storage location by HISII interface". But if I want to risk I can continue etc.

Previously I took the risk and updating went well.
But is there possibility to contact OEM BIOS engieneer?

>While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:

What is the present BIOS version which is available on your notebook?
In case the BIOS is already up to date, the BIOS flash procedure will be interrupted.

>"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I?m not quite sure about the meaning of this information but it looks like the BIOS update was released for Windows 8 system and probably its required to upgrade the system from Windows 7 to Windows 8 in order to be able to flash the BIOS

By the way: why you want to update the BIOS? Just because new version is available?
Please note that BIOS update does not improve the notebook performance but fixes some issues. In case your notebook runs properly, the BIOS update is not very important

I have downloaded the correct BIOS update from the site multiple times and I have tried both the Windows 7 install that came shipped and booting from a Windows XP (PE) CD. Whenever I try to update the BIOS I get the following message from the "Toshiba BIOS Package" program is: "This computer is not supported".

The file that is linked from either selecting the model manually or by auto detection is P0076v290_EC72V190.exe.

Has anyone been able to flash the BIOS on this model? My thoughts are that the site is linking to the wrong download? Has anyone got a working BIIOS update?

A:Satellite Pro S500-11C - Unable to update BIOS

Hi cremeegg,

On preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba, is Value Added Package installed? This tool is necessary for the BIOS update.

Also load the default settings in BIOS for updating it.

Was the mainboard exchanged on your notebook? This could be also a reason due wrong DMI information?

I have just done a fresh install of windows 10 which worked perfectly. I then went to hp support to download the drivers and used the auto detect program to do that I then installed the drivers which went well. I then ran the bios update program. This failed. The computer was plugged in and fully charged. Now it is in the situation where it will not start and will not switch off. The screen is blank and the on off button is illuminated. I just tried holding the on off switch for ages but it had no effect. How can I switch it on? Any suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Had a major disaster last night.  Tried to update the BIOS on a Pavilion H8J91EA#ABU which failed; displayed boot block updated message (or something like that - can't remember exactly) message stayed on screen for ages and then blacked out.  Now the machine appears totaly dead.  I've tried the 'Windws-Key' and 'B' key bios recovery method to no avail. Does anyone know if this function is supported on the H8J91EA#ABU Thanks
