Satellite Pro S500-139 - FN+F9 button doesnt work to turn touchpad off

Q: Satellite Pro S500-139 - FN+F9 button doesnt work to turn touchpad off

Hello,

I am using a Satellite Pro S500-139 and am having problems with my F9 key. When i type my palm touches the mouse and send the cursor somewhere else on the page. I have reinstalled the ALPS pointing device and now have access to the advanced setting that i wasn't able to get.

Although i can adjust the sensitivity etc i would really like to be able to use the shortcut to disable the mouse momentarily whilst typing. My keyboard shows that if i press fn and F9 the i should be able to disable the mouse however the function doesnt work. all the other F9 functions appear to work.

Do you know if there is a resolution to this?

I am running windows 7 pro 32 bit service pack 1.

What you can try is to reinstall Toshiba value added package.

Hello everyone!
I have just bought new Satellite Pro L850 with windows 7 64bit on recovery partition.
I have a big problem cause internal keybord doesn't work under the windows. Under the bios i can do everything i want. But from windows first configuration ( i cant even set computer name and user name) , keyboard doesnt work. I have clean windows version ( with toschiba programs - recovery partition).

It seems that is not a hardware problem cause under the bios keybord working.

Extra i have update the bios to newest version 6.50, but didnt notice any change.

Please help me with this issue, cause i dont have any more idea what to do now.

Good day and w8 for answers

The whole story sounds unbelievable. Brand new notebook and keyboard is not working???
Install recovery image again and check if the situation is the same. If the problem persists contact your local dealer, explain the situation and ask for exchange.

I am disappointed with the ALPS touchpad driver which Tosihba provides for my laptop and have tried Synaptics' drivers but they do not seem to be compatible (Scrolling does not work).

The issue with the ALPS touchpad driver is that it does not support continuous scrolling, which is a must-have in my opinion.

Are there by any chance any alternative drivers which at least support continuous scrolling and are compatible with my laptop?

I've googled alot, but to no avail...

Thanks in advance - Brutality

Hello,

I would like to buy some of these notebooks fpr my company but I'm a little confused, because the only difference between these models that I found was that the 116 has a HD-Webcam, which I don't care about but still
But then I wonder why the 11R is more expensive....

Please help me because I would really want to choose Toshiba over Fujitsu Lifebook :)

A:Differences between Satellite S500-116 and Satellite S500-11R

Hi lt.hotze,

You can compare the specifications of these notebooks on the Toshiba page:

Satellite Pro S500-11R:
http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-Pro-S500-11R/1085174

Satellite Pro S500-116:
http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-Pro-S500-116/1081285

It seems that both models are designed for the German market?

Anyway, they are equipped with the same CPU, RAM, graphic card, etc. The only difference seems to be the webcam, S500-116 has a HD webcam.

OK, bought a new power adaptor a week ago (could this be the problem!?!) - from eBay and it was cheap. Laptop worked fine for a week or so but now I get nothing from it. Upon turning on power button, the laptop does nothing - no fan, just a little click and a slight whirring sound. The screen remains black. The lights on the front show static green when switched on. When I switch on with just battery, it shows orange. Any ideas what could be wrong (and whether I have done a mischief by buying a rubbishy cheap AC adaptor!). Thanks!

A:Satellite Pro A120 - doesnt turn on - please help!

Hi buddy,

Did you bought an original Toshiba AC/Dc adapter or is it a 3rd party part?

What I have found is this:
Which steps should be followed if your Toshiba notebook doesn't start?

Theoretically the AC/DC adapter could causing such problems but now it?s too late. That?s one reason why it?s recommendable buying original Toshiba spare parts only. ;)

Model: Dell XPS 15 9530.After a recent motherboard replacement my touchpad doesnt click (as in you cant physically press the buttons) and doesnt register that im pressing the touchpad down. I was wondering whether this is an easy fix or a common issue. Posting from New Zealand but the support over here is pretty attrocious and havent received an email reply for a few days so thought id see if anyone else had similar issues. Was done by a professional so I am wondering why it doesnt work and maybe if he just didnt screw some stuff back up right.

Hi,

We would suggest you to first uninstall the touch pad driver and then restart the system install the latest drivers from the Dell site .
Use the link for the latest drivers :www.dell.com/.../diagnose

My brand new PC, maybe around 2 weeks old. PC just shuts off randomly like 1 week after. This has happened twice since I've bought it. First time it turn off the monitor and mouse and keyboard none were working at all (the keyboard lights were off), but the pc was still running. The fan turned super loud and I tried pressing the power button in and it wouldn't shut off. So I left it alone for a couple mins and still no change, had to take out the plug. Second time was a couple minutes ago, same thing, monitor off, keyboard off, mouse off, pc still on. But this time no loud fan noise, just the regular amount it makes. I would really enjoy some feedback on this... Could it be a dust issue? I mean its brand new so It shouldn't be a problem.. I think. Oh and both of the times I was playing a game, first League of Legends, second time Smite.

Operating System: Windows 8.1 64 bit
System Model: M11BB
Processor: AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon Hd graphics (4 CPUs) ~3.7 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
Monitor: Dell E207WFP

Hi there:

My satellite A300 fell from my desk. It was disconected.
Few hours later i wanted to turn it on but when i plug the ac cable the lights that normally comes on doesnt work.
Ive opened it to check if there was anything broken but it seems all good.
What can i do?

My battery is dead so i cant do anything with it.

A:Satellite A300 - no power lights and doesnt turn on

on this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there but if there is no reaction and DC led is also not on I presume there is some problem with power supply electronic placed on the mainboard.

Visually everything can be OK but some connectors are probably damaged.
Repair (mainboard exchange) is pretty expensive so I think you should sell it on eBay and obtain other machine.

Satellite A300 is nice machine and you can get another used A300 on eBay for about 100- 150 Euros.

Please help!
Best regards

A:Windows 10 - FN key and touchpad lock/unlock button problem Satellite L675-11J

Fn keys require special Toshiba software which controls this notebook feature.

But the Windows 10 drivers are not published for this Satellite L675 series because its not Win 10 supported.

From my point of few this means that you could use the notebook in connection with Win 10 but without the functioning FN buttons.

Can someone please help?

A:Solved: Laptop Touchpad doesnt work

laptops usually have a third party software that controls how the touchpad operates, however even without that software the touchpad has basic functionality. Check your hot keys (the F keys) in case you accidentally disabled it. The synaptics software can also be used to disable the touchpad, so research how to do that for your model and attempt to re-enable it. Since it is under warranty, if you get stuck, contact Toshiba tech support and they will help you.

Today i updated my OS and restarted the system and found out that i am not able to use my touchpad.  I tried reinstalling the latest synaptics touchpad driver from the HP support center, but unfortunately it did not fix the issue. I tried to run the HP diagnostics during bootup for the touchpad and was not able to move the mouse pointer. Although the status of the diagnostics run says cancelled rather than failed.  If someone could suggest some probable solutions, it would be of great help. Thanks in advance. Regards,Srijith

Hello everyone. I have one big problem. I reinstalled my 8.1 pro (legal copy, disk been fully formatted) and it was okay for few hours. Next time im starting the laptop, my keyboard and touchpad doesnt work. I plugged USB mouse and keyboard and it works just fine. I went to device manager and besides Standart PS/2 keyboard and mouse icons there was orange triangle meaning that i have problem with drivers. I searched drivers online, but unsuccsessily.. After few hours of trying to fix it, my Standart PS/2 Keyboard turned into Unknown device and now im completely lost. Adding photo of device manager, i hope someone will help me here.

A:8.1 pro laptop keyboard and touchpad doesnt work

Since we do not know the make and model of your laptop.
Should try the laptop manufacturer's website to see if you can find the drivers for this. Does look like there missing.

What does it tell you when you right click the ones with yellow exclamation points ?

You can right click and select update driver software, either search automatically or browse your computer, select signed driver from the list is shows you.

Hi,

My Laptop is an HP G70-120EA, which I bought 2 years ago. After just one year it started showing problems and the current problems are:
From the past 6 months, on pressing the power button the laptop would not start at all. But after pressing hard, or after trying several times, suddenly and randomly it would start. The adapter seems to be fine. So I thought the problem is in the connection between the power switch and the motherboard.

My Questions are:

1. Is there any alternative way to start the laptop? Any modification, or improvisation?
2. How do I fix the problem myself?

I cannot repair the laptop here,in Bangladesh since I searched almost the whole city and there are NO experts regarding laptops who can fix the problem. I gave it to a well-known repair company and they couldnt fix the problem rather they made other problems as well-- like they cut down the mic and webcam.
Also I am willing to fix these issues myself if it does not require high-risk parmanent damage.
I went to the top dealers of HP here, but they worsened the problem.

Hi All,

I just recently bought a 2nd hand Toshiba Satellite x200-219. Had a few problems with it which I have overcome now, apart from one... The touchpad does not work as it should. I think the cable has been damaged at some point.

So I am wondering if I have to use the same ribbon cable to connect the touchpad to the motherboard or can I get one from a different model of Toshiba laptop?

I have tried searching on the net for advice but have come up with nothing so thought I would try the forums.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

A:Satellite X200-219 - The touchpad does not work as it should

Satellite X205/X200 TOUCH PAD FFC part number: K000047980

But why you don?t get in contact with an Toshiba authorized service provider in your country and order the needed and compatible part?

Same for me.
I have solved it by doing:
Went to the control panel (right click on the start button)
Goto the device manager
Goto the Mouse and ...
Right click and choose properties.
Click on OK
Computer asks for a reboot and after the reboot the mouse pad was working again.

First at all, sorry for my bad English.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C50-A-153, the problem is his Touch pad, doesn't work correctly, the mouse doesn't move and when i move the finger on the pad, it seems like if i were rolling the bar "or the mouse wheel".

Sometimes, the "mouse" works correctly for a 20seconds, and after, again the same. External mouse works fine.

There's not the problem of "Fn" functions. I tried to shutdown, put off the battery and press the power button for 50seconds. I tried too to uninstall the Drivers from the Touchpad, and i think i have tried to change all the properties on the "Control Panel - Mouse".

Anybody can help me with that?

Thank you.

How to do this you can read on https://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD3101Z30000R01.htm

Hi,

I recently loaded Windows 7 (64bit) onto my Satellite Pro P300. I downloaded all the drivers for W7 64 bit and everything happily installed, for the most part.

The touchpad, however, is not fully functional. The upgrade page said to use the Vista drivers, and did not provide any drivers for win7. The installation of the Vista drivers did not realy go so well.

Anyhow, the critical piece of functionality missing is that thing where you drag your finger up and down the right edge of the touchpad, and it scrolls for you. I can click and double click and move the cursor around. But I cannot scroll. And it is such a pain having to move the cursor all the way over to the application's scrollbar, with a widescreen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L50 B 127
Lately I've noticed some anomalies that have arisen me on my computer (which should take about a year ) . When I talk about anomalies refer to keys you rarely use and at this point do not work ( example : left arrow , Z ... )

Has anyone had this problem or know the cause and solution? Grateful one as soon as possible reply

My computer is a toshiba satellite L50 B 127 and has just over one year of use

Lately I've found some anomalies in my computer including some keys that from one day to the other crashed , these keys are not that widely used ( left arrow , z , indent ) . In addition to this , my touchpad has been constantly block of minutes in minutes , even though the touchpad buttons work always , the truth is that the cursor block for a few seconds and then goes back to work as if nothing had happened . However within 10 minutes this situation occurred four times

In Windows 7 there is a feature whereby when you combine the Windows button and the Tab button it will spool through open programmes in an "apple" kind of way.

I used to be able to do this with my old laptop running windows 7 but cannot with my lovely new Toshiba, why?

A:BSOD on a 3 month old Satellite Pro S500-11C

Hi

BSOD is a product of serious software error or hardware problem.
You should firstly try to find out if it?s really related to installed software.

As you said; the BSOD appear spontaneously and without and suddenly so I believe it would be not easy to replicate this BSOD.
Therefore it?s important to start some ?basic? steps in order to check what could cause this.

Firstly I recommend checking the RAM.
Memory issues could cause BSOD; for this check use an free diagnostic tools like memtest86 or similar (google helps).
If no memory problem would be detected, then you should check if BIOS and other drivers are up to date. Check especially the graphic card driver.

An new OS recovery would be the option too. But note; backup the data before using recovery because the HDD would be formatted

Hi everyone, I’m having 7 Toshiba Satellite Pro S500 Notebooks here and would like to upgrade those crappy Core i3 330M and 350M, 370M and 380M CPUs to Core i5 or Core i7 CPUs. I’m quite unsure what CPU Socket I’ll have to buy and what CPU Generations are supported by the S500. I’m having CPUs up to Corei3 380M assembled in those things right now and believe its an HM55 Express chipset inside which should allow for i5 and i7 CPUs. I already had issues in upgrading toshiba tecra A9 modells as after the CPU upgrade they were running fine and the FAN was blowing ultra loud at 100% speed all the time without ever turning off again even though the notebook could be frozen at 0?C and it was never hot. Toshiba 3rd level support then told me it would need a microcode update that they don’t provide to customers and told me to send the notebooks for repair @ 50€ each just for updating that microcode. Therefore I’d like to ask if anyone has a list of Supported CPUs for the S500 modells?
Exact Model Numbers I do have:
Satellite Pro S500-106 (PSSE0E-19M06SLD)
Satellite Pro S500-147 (PSSE0E-0HH06SLD)
Satellite Pro S500-132 (PSSE0E-09G05ELD)

Hope anyone can help, I don’t wanna end up buying a i7 or i5 cpu, spending 50 bucks, investing 4 hours work and end up with an unusable notebook I have to right away disassemble again just to undo the work I had invested… Looking forward to your replies J

A:Upgrading Toshiba Satellite Pro S500 CPU from i3 to i5 or i7

Best thing to do is choose a CPU that shipped with one of the other S500 PSSE0E models. That way you can be certain the BIOS supports it.
Some notebooks require a cooling system calibration after a different CPU is installed. An ASP can do the calibration.

Hi Folks,

I am experiancing a problem with my Satellite Pro S500-11C where it unexpectedly hangs and the fan goes to full speed. Reboot is my only option and this has resulted in the windows having to recover a few times so I am fearful of a needing a major rebuild after a future hang. So far this problem has only occured when using a 3G mobile wireless USB stick or internet teathering via USB with my iphone 3G. Using a different USB port has not helped.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and have a fix? Any help from Toshiba?

Best Regards,

Andrew

A:Satellite Pro S500-11C hangs and fan goes to full

Hmmmm... what to say. Problem is that you use third part hardware and software and some conflicts are possible. The question is: who can help you with this?
Generally speaking you should talk with your ISP provider at first to see what they will say about all this.

Have you already spoken with them?

I am trying to get into a Toshiba satellite pro S500-15W bios. I have tried the F2 key and the FN + F2 keys together still no joy. Then downloaded the latest version (2013) of the bios update for this series and windows 7, 32 bits. When I try to run the update I get "This computer is not support" message. Can someone help.

Hello,

on the Satellite Pro S500-14Z I can?t access the BIOS via F2 and can?t change the bootpriority via F12. By pressing F2 or F12 while starting, the S500 beeps and restarts. On the first start, I had access to Bios and set the supervisor password and activated TPM. Since that, I have no access to BIOS before Windows-boot. Is there any other key for bios-access (i tried ESC, F1, DEL, INS) or how can I change the supervisor-pw (i know my actual password!) and deactivate TPM?

Thanks
Karl

A:Satellite Pro S500-14Z - How to access the BIOS?

Hi karlS_1,

Normally you can access the BIOS if you press F2 key before Windows start. Does it work with an external keyboard?

You can change some BIOS settings using Toshiba HWsetup. This tool is preinstalled on your notebook and you can change the boot order with this tool.

I have problem with my wireless switch. Take a look at this [picture|http://bildr.no/view/591716]. It says "bryterstatus: p?" which translates (poorly) to "switch status: on".

Although, when I press Fn + F8, nothing happens. All the other FN + "random button" hotkeys work though. In other words, I can't connect to my wireless. I know that it works, because I can connect with my iPhone. There's also nothing wrong with the connection, I've tried to deactive / active on and off. Tried to restart my laptop. I've even downloaded new drivers. Nothing seems to work. How can I turn on the switch?

Best Regards,
Miguel Rodrigues

A:Satellite Pro L500 - Wireless button doesn't work

Hello Miguel

Has your notebook ?factory settings? or you have changed something?
Have you installed own operating system or notebook still has original preinstalled operating system?
Is WLAN card installed and listed properly in device manager?

WLAN usage is so simple and by ?default? it must work properly. The same principle is on all Toshiba notebooks same. When you want to use WLAN you must move WLAN switch to position ON and use FN+F8 key combination to enable WLAN card. That?s all.

What you can try is to reinstall Value added package?

I have downloaded the correct BIOS update from the site multiple times and I have tried both the Windows 7 install that came shipped and booting from a Windows XP (PE) CD. Whenever I try to update the BIOS I get the following message from the "Toshiba BIOS Package" program is: "This computer is not supported".

The file that is linked from either selecting the model manually or by auto detection is P0076v290_EC72V190.exe.

Has anyone been able to flash the BIOS on this model? My thoughts are that the site is linking to the wrong download? Has anyone got a working BIIOS update?

A:Satellite Pro S500-11C - Unable to update BIOS

Hi cremeegg,

On preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba, is Value Added Package installed? This tool is necessary for the BIOS update.

Also load the default settings in BIOS for updating it.

Was the mainboard exchanged on your notebook? This could be also a reason due wrong DMI information?

Hello,

I'd like to upgrade my graphics driver since it is a bit old (2010) and some program starts to ask for it.

Toshiba Satellite Pro S500-14 T
Part No. PSSE0E-0LM07QIT
Serial No. YA175628H

Intel HD Graphics
Current driver installed: 8.15.10.2189

I tried searching on intel.com but this is the result:
+A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer.+
+The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues.+
+Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.+

Searching my PC in the [Download drivers, software patches, and other updates for your Toshiba product] section result into a "No drivers available."

So, my question is: where can i find an update for my graphics driver (if it exists)?

Thanks

A:Satellite Pro S500-14T - I'd like to upgrade my graphics driver

To be honest I would not update the driver only because the driver version is old!
I would try to update the driver ONLY if I would notice some problems in connection with other applications like games, etc?

However, fact is that drivers which are released on Toshiba EU driver page are certified by Toshiba. It?s recommended to use such drivers.

If you want to install the drivers from other sources, you can do that only at your own risk.
There is no guarantee that such drivers would work properly.

Anyway, the notebook supports Intel HD graphics. This graphic unit is part of the Intel CPU

This Intel HD graphics was the first internal Intel GPU and the follower were Intel HD 2000/3000/4000 and now 5000

What is LHS?

I think it?s hard to say what is causing this exactly but theoretically it could be related to the HDD?

Hi Folks,

I have a Satellite Pro S500-11C which suffers from the poor audio performance mentioned in reviews of the S500-11C (yeah I should have *+listened+* to the reviews and excuse the pun).

This is making it very difficult to use this laptop for audio applications such as music, VOIP and Skype without having to carry about a heaeset of some type.

Has anyone else eperianced this problem and had a solution. Any help from Toshiba??

Sorry but what kind of problem do you mean exactly? Is the sound not loud enough or what?
I mean this notebook has ?standard? stereo speakers and not high end harman/kardon speakers inside.

I have Satellite L300 in front of me with same stereo speakers. Sound is OK but not so good as on other laptops with h/K speakers.

By the way: what kind of help do you expect? Some new driver that makes speakers louder maybe?

Hi,
Our company has recently purchased three of the S500-11C laptops.

One of the software packages we use requires Java to be installed in the browser, this is not a problem in IE or Chrome but we cannot get Java installed on Firefox, which is the main browser we use.

We have tried various different versions of Firefox and Java but nothing seems to work. We have also tried switching off 'Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in' feature in Java but this has not helped. One suggestion was to try moving a couple of files from the /java/bin folder to the /firefox/plugin folder, but this simply caused Firefox to crash when it tried to load applets.

The laptop is fresh out of the box and is running Windows 7 32-bit. I think it might be some sort of conflict between the Toshiba Apps and Firefox.

Has anyone else come across this issue, or provide any assistance?

Thanks

Matt.

I have a Satellite Pro S500. There is a problem with the keyboard. When I type (no matter whether I am using Word, a web browser or any other application, though the problem seems to have been especially serious when typing this particular post) the cursor sometimes (often) jumps randomly: it may go back a few words or it may highlight a random section of text (it also makes no difference whether I am using an external mouse or not or how heavy/light the typing style is).

It has been suggested that it may have something to do with the sensitivity of the touch pad; however, reducing its sensitivity has had no effect whatsoever. This is a very unnerving problem and would be grateful for any advice.

Thank you.

A:Satellite Pro S500 - Cursor jumps randomly

Hi ap4h,

I think you are touching the touchpad during typing so you should disable the tapping function of touchpad. This can be done in touchpad driver options.

Here is a similar thread with some screenshots how to adjust/disable tapping:

Hi!

I have the following situation with my Satellite Pro S500-115:

The battery seems to be faulty now (it doesn't charge anymore and Win 7 Pro tells me to replace it).
When I turn on the laptop and the battery is plugged, it works for a few minutes and then it suddenly turns off.

But even if I remove the battery and have the laptop plugged with the DC IN, when I press the turn on button nothing happens!!!

Shouldn't the laptop be able to operate in such circumstances, that is only plugged to the power grid and with the battery plugged off? Is there anything that I must set in order to make it work like this?

Thanks in advance!

The battery of my 6 years old notebook is dead too? It?s possible to use the notebook in batter mode just for two minutes? after that the battery is empty? but I use the notebook with connected AC adaptor and therefore I don?t need to replace the battery.

> Shouldn't the laptop be able to operate in such circumstances, that is only plugged to the power grid and with the battery plugged off? Is there anything that I must set in order to make it work like this?

Usually the notebook should be able to power up and to operate without connected battery.
My notebook runs properly with an connected AC adaptor only. So what to say? maybe the power supply electronic is affected too? but this is just an suggestion?

But you should definitely check if the BIOS is up to date... sometimes a BIOS update might solve some power and battery issues.

It is not easy to understand what is wrong there. Connect your notebook to the AC adapter and leave it for 20 minutes then try to press power button again. Do it gently with low pressure.

Test it please with connected AC adapter.

Sorry but on this virtual way it is not easy to offer some exact diagnostic. You can try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Such issues can be tested if notebook is in front of you and you can see what happen exactly.

Now the laptop has *freezed* at the "Toshiba - Leading Innovation" frontpage. If I try to turn off the laptop it turns to sleep mode - and returns to the "Toshiba" page again.

Any ideas of how to get out of this loop?

A:Satellite U920T - front/back cam + touch screen + win button doesn't work

Since you mentioned different issues with your notebook, I think that in this case its advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings just to check if all these problems are related to system problem.

Regarding the webcam: the Windows 8 /8.1 already contains the webcam drivers and therefore additional webcam driver installation isn?t possible. Additional webcam driver does not exist simply.

From my point of few the whole description smells a little bit like a hardware problem of the upper slide part where the touchscreen is part of.
The win button as well as the both cams are located there and probably there is some lose connection between the two parts (touchscreen and keyboard)

Anyway, as I said above, its advisable to recover the notebook to factory settings just to ensure that the system isn?t the troublemaker.
In case of hardware problems, you would need to get in contact with service available in your country.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L4550-S5976 running under Windows 7. When I start it up (and if I catch it at the right time), the touchpad buttons work fine for a few minutes. After the machine completely boots, the touchpad button problems start - the left button performs as the right button and the right button does nothing.

On a lark, I plugged in a USB mouse and rebooted. When I do that, the mouse works fine AND the touchpad buttons work properly. Carrying around a mouse isn't always convenient so I'd like to have the machine work as expected.

I tried updating the touchpad drivers - that did not fix the problem. I even reinstalled Windows 7 on the machine - that did not fix the problem either.

Any ideas what I could do next to fix this problem?

Man this feels weird. I'm usually the one giving help, not asking for it lol.

Computer:

HP Pavilion dv7
Win7 Professional x64

This problem started after I left my computer on sleep for a couple hours. When I woke it up, the touchpad taps and left mouse button clicks brought up the right-click context menu and nothing on the taskbar responded to the cursor hovering over it. Also for some reason pressing the Windows key on the keyboard wouldn't bring up the Start menu. The only way I've found to correct this is to plug in a USB mouse and press the right MB on it. I also was able to fix it one time by uninstalling the Synaptics drivers and letting Windows restart and find the mouse, but after trying to reinstall the Synaptics drivers then uninstalling them again after the problem reappeared this method no longer works. In either case left click functionality is restored but there is no right click functionality period on the touchpad/buttons. However the USB mouse that I plug in works normally. Also after left click is restored, everything on the taskbar and elsewhere responds as it should with the exception of not being able to right click on anything (which sucks in W7). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics drivers to see if that would fix it but after reinstalling them and restarting, the problem came back. Another thing I've noticed is that even with the Synaptics drivers installed the vertical scroll area doesn't respond.... Read more

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

Hi,
In reference to the following posting, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19676126:
I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?
Thank you

im using windows pro sp2. last week i had downloaded something and then i started to get advertisements even when a browser wasnt open. it was about 3 different ones but went off every 30 secs to 5 mins. i went through some windows files in safe mode deleted some things here n there and ending processes.
i was successful in stopping the advertisements. although not long afterwards the internet would stop after 5 mins and i would have to keep restarting. once i tried to system restore it wont go back past the day i started having this internet problem. im not sure if its related to the previous problem or if i deleted a file i should not have?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but here goes:

For quite some time now my scroll button (I guess it's called the middle action button) has not worked. I've recently downloaded all the recent drivers for the touchpad/trackpoint and it hasn't worked. I open up the mouse properties box from the Thinkpad Configuration options, and under the Device Settings tab I click on the Synaptics TouchPad then click settings >> buttons. But under the buttons tab the only two options showing up are "left button" and "right button" but no "middle button" when before it used to be there. My question is, how do I get this middle button back?

The left button on my touchpad developed a hard to describe malfunction. Turning on right-handed mode improved the functionality, but accidentally clicking the left button creates a complicated, frustrating situated which can usually only be resolved by restarting. Is there something in the settings or the registry which can disable the button until I get it fixed?

A:Touchpad Button Malfunction

I found an alternative answer. At Walgreens, I saw that mice were marked down from $11 to $6 and I bought the last one. It works surprisingly well for a $6 Walgreens mouse. I'm still curious about my initial question, although it's no longer urgent.

Apparently Lenovo reintroduced phyiscal buttons for their touchpads for many models during this year's CES: http://www.engadget.com/2015/01/04/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-carbon-2015/ Unfortunately, I already have a T440s without physical buttons. I got the laptop because all its other properties fit my use case perfectly. The missing buttons are just the one most annoying thing about this laptop. So what I'd like to do, is to be able to replace the button-less touchpad of my T440s with the 3-button touchpad of a T450s (should be possible to get one via ebay once they start selling). The questions are: are the physical dimensions of the old and new touchpad the same?is the electronic connector of the old and new touchpad the same?

A:Is it possible to replace the button-less touchpad...

Hi. I found this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/THINKPAD-T440-T440P-T440S-T450-T450S-Touchpad-Clickpad-With-Left-and-Right-k...but I am not sure how reliable it is and if it really means, there is a compatibility.

Welcome and hello-
Try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Windows Task Manager will open near the top of the window you will find the Shut Down button. As for shutting down automatically, ask someone more geeky.

Well, I returned home from a week-long vacation....turned on my puter...5 mins later it shuts down on its own. Now the damn thing doesnt even start! I check all cords and power switch and mobo connection. No dice. Anyone have any suggestions?

A:PC doesnt turn on

First thing to try is the power supply unit, Then you have to assume it's either the cpu or the mobo.
All fine and well if you have parts to swap out !!!

A:HDD led doesnt turn off

It's possible your problem may just be a failed resistor on your mobo!!!

So recently, i've been playing games on my computer and all of a sudden, my PC just turns off. So I bend down to try to turn it on again but it doesn't even powerup! The computer gave off a rubbery/burning odor. Also, all these happened after I switched my old power supply (died) for my new one. I'm almost certain that its not the power supply because it still powers up the motherboard power. Any suggestions?

A:PC doesnt turn on

It could be that you lost only one rail on the PSU. Smell the exhaust on the power supply and see if the odor is present there.

Is this a good PSU or a cheapo?

Just recently observed that the right-click button on my touchpad is not working. This just happened today. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR280E laptop and am using Vista. I've checked the device manger, drivers are up to date, no yellow exclamation marks.

Here is what I've tried:

- reinstalled Original Alps Driver and restarted
- reinstalled Original Alps Driver a second time using Windows Back up and Recover
- made sure the mouse settings in Control Panel were correct

I think it could possibly be a hardware issue as pressing the right click key is not responding or opening any options, however, I haven't spilled anything on it or dropped it. My last option is to ship it off to Sony but my warranty expired a few months ago, and I looked at the price list and it is crazy expensive.

Please help!

A:Right click button on touchpad not working

it is probabaly bad then
this may help it wont fix the button but you can use one of the corners to use as a right click{shortcut menu}

Hello all

I have a Compaq laptop model nc6230 with both a touch pad and a nipple mouse. I have a left andright click buttons under both input devices. However, about 10 minutes after every boot up, both left click buttons stop working. the right buttons and the navigation work, however, it wont left click or click when I "tap" the touchpad.

When I attach a usb mouse, the mouse actually works, however, the left buttons on the laptop wont work.

advice?

ps the buttons will start working again after reboot, but will stop after another ten minutes or so

I use a wireless mouse (or a wired mouse) preferably  instead of the touchpad.   The touchpad has an on/off button to press - White light indicates on and Orange light indicates off.    After booting up, I typically turn off the touchpad and use the wireless mouse, however, occasionally when typing I realize my palms are contacting the touchpad and the curser jumps around accordingly.    The touch pad is turned off (orange light) but I can control it with a finger, it works like its  supposed to as if it's turned on.     Any ideas ?   I have not downloaded any driver updates or anything to try to solve this as I'm afraid it could actually cause other problems.  Updating the driver is the usual advice given for problems  -  is that the solution here ?   Has anyone else had a similar problem.    Most of the touch pad problems I have read about are regarding an erratic touch pad - nothing to do with "on" or "off" problems.

Here's an eBay auction, Buy it now, Free shipping, under $12. http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Lenovo-Thin...emZ170498666968QQcategoryZ16145QQcmdZViewItem How comfortable are you about removing the palm rest that this is attached to? Probably only about 4-8 screws on the bottom, but then it's usually held in place with some plastic latches that will necessitate you prying the part from the base. Some of the screws may be hidden under other access panels (HDD or memory, maybe under the battery). Every laptop is different.

Turns out it is 4 screws. Here's a YouTube video. A short way in they remove the palm rest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLCZE5Oj2Bk
