Your question is pretty confusing.
Can you please post exact notebook model name and model?

Do you need new AC adapter or what?

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

A:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

Toshiba Satellite L305-5955, Ive taken apart and replaced power jack. Not directly soldered to motherboard. While still apart, and battery out/in, connected power supply and still absolutely no response. Power supply is NOT original, and slightly different specs, i.e original 19v..6.3A

current 19v..3.1A

A:Toshiba Satellite L305-5955 does not respond to power supply, new power jack

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!
Maybe you can exchange it?

My Satallite R830 won't turn on.

The power symbol flashes orange 8 times then pauses and restarts. there are 6 quick flashes followed by a longer one on the 7th flash then another quick one. The wireless symbol is lit up (orange) all the time.

If I unplug the laptop and take out the battery and hold the restart button for 30s then without the battery plug in the charger the flashing stops and the power symbol goes green, until I try turning it on, it has a split second where it sounds like it's booting up then stops and the orange flashing resumes.

Same thing happens if I unplug the ac adaptor and the battery and then tried the above but with the battery and no ac charger.

I have tried with another adaptor (same amp and volt output).

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

A:Satellite R830 won't power up - flashing power indicator

>6 quick flashes followed by a longer one on the 7th flash then another quick one

If the power supply microcontroller detected an error the DC IN lamp sends a blinking code.
The short means 0 and long means 1.
I your case this means: 0000 0010

Since error code starts with LSB (least significant bit) you have to read it from behind
0000 0010 -> 0100 0000 -> 40 H (hex)
Now you will need to know what 40 H means

According to some details which I found in internet, the 40H could be the S3V output fault. (S3V voltage is over 3.47V)

However, such errors are mostly related to motherboard problem (internal circuit problem) and from my point of few only part replacement would fix this error.

Hi there, I have a toshiba A75 laptop that does not boot when on ac power without a battery beyond bios. It shows the splash screen but then dies on normal boot.

When I have the battery in and the unit is powered off It does charge the battery.
When the battery is fully charged, it will run and boot into windows but does not recognize the ac power at all. It just drains the battery, then when the battery is at 0 it shuts off and this is while connected to AC power and the LED see's the AC power.

When on AC power I can boot into bios and it will sit there for days without a battery, but when I try to get to the OS it just shuts down. I have replaced the mobo twice. I have replaced the hard drive as well. The odd part is that with the hard drive out of the laptop, I can get the laptop to run with out any power failures. It just recycles the media device failure message but does not crash.

I have tested the power supply on other laptops and it seems to work just fine.

Any one have any ideas?

A:Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

The tips I got with this Kensington 33197 power adapter have numbers stenciled on them like N3, N5, N19, etc. The tips sold on their web site make no mention of the "N" numbers and have numbers like K20059, K20050, etc. and there is no cross reference.

You can also see a complete reference for "N" numbers to all the laptops they support at the above link. Again, no mention of the numbers Kensington uses on their site.

I need a cross reference for these kinds of numbers.

Kensington referred me to their telephone tech support; but, there is a language or cultural barrier that prevents their understanding what I need.

Does anyone know of such a reference?

My laptop will no longer turn on.  When the AC adapter is plugged in, the LED light is white indicating power is arriving at the laptop. However, nothing happens when I push the power button. Troubleshooting steps I have completed already include: Hard reset (several times including after each step below)Tried starting without the batteryRemoved all removable components and reseated themRemoved all removable components as well as bottom cover. Cleaned with compressed air. Put everything back.Nothing appears wrong and nothing happened between the last time it turned on and this time that I am aware of. The laptop is out of warranty, and I am pretty handy with computers. Is there anything that can be suggested short of a hardware replacement that would help get this resolved? TIA

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

A:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

I have a Toshiba Satellite S70-B with an AMD Radeon R9 M265X.
I have installed all updates but it's now called "AMD Radeon HD 8800M Series", it's exactly that problem :

But the solution is to update divers, that's already what I've done... so what can I do ?
I've tried to uninstall, reboot, reinstall different versions and so on.. I'm totaly lost now :'(

And now I don't see the option shown when you left click on desktop to access to catalyst interface or select the display adapter to use depending on the program (to use the radeon in game, and not the intel HD).

Any idea to get everything back to normal ?

A:Re: Satellite S70-B - Wrong ATI display adapter

I?m not quite sure if the solution could be the same because your notebook is different.
It?s Satellite S70-B

By the way: what Satellite S70-B-xxx do you have exactly and what AMD driver version did you install.

The Toshiba EU driver page provides different AMD driver versions!

However, I recommend you to repeat the solution posted in the Toshiba document.
First of all uninstall the graphic card driver from device manager.
Then download the latest version (depending on the windows system) and install it again.

Here the list of available GPU drivers:

Is any battery suited for Satellite Pro U400 suited for mine?
As I can't seem to find which batteries are specifically suited for my computer.

(For example: is this one: ?)

Is there a quick way to check if a battery / charger are compatible?

A:I need to replace battery and AC Adapter of Satellite Pro U400-160

Every battery and AC adaptor that you get from Toshiba has specific part number. All you must do is to use this number and order identical part. You should be able to find it on internet.
You can also get compatible parts ordering it by authorized Toshiba service provider in your country.

By the way: All U400 models have the same construction and similar specification so all batteries specified for U400 can be used on your U400-160.

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message. My computer is from June 2006 and shouldn't be having this issue so early...or ever. This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue. I'm of course out of warranty, will Dell replace this free of charge?

A:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

I have the following problem:

A Satellite Pro 4320 will not power up, DC-In light is on (green), with the (fairly old) battery inserted, the battery light blinks rapidly in orange, (trickle charge, according to manual). If I press the power button, DC-In goes off for half a second and comes back on, that's all, nothing else happens.
The power supply is the correct one, 15V 4Amps, I have load tested it, it works and provides full power, according to spec. It doesn't matter, if the battery is inserted or not.

Now the question: Is it a battery problem or is it a problem with the laptops innards (internal DC-Converter)? Normally a laptop should work on the included power supply alone.

Best regards

A:Satellite Pro 4230 - Won't power up

> Normally a laptop should work on the included power supply alone.
You?re absolutely right, mate. All notebooks work with power supply only, theoretically a battery is not necessary. That?s only important if you want work mobile without power supply, otherwise notebook works with power supply only. No battery is necessary.

So my personal opinion it?s a mainboard malfunction :(

Have read other threads on Satellite Pros not powering on. Seen various suggestions, including removing RAM modules (with or without success).
Done all the usual, remove battery, attempt power on with, without battery etc. etc. etc (as you'd expect) all to no avail...

Mine is very old now, about 7yrs. The week I bought it, it would not power on. Took it back to the shop, they plugged it in, hey presto, power. Has happened three times in last seven years, every time, take it to PC World. They plug it in, hey Presto, power.

Beginning to realise that, although access to someone else's power supply is inevitably the solution, it's not very scientific. Was wondering if there is a less random solution to this problem and if anybody knows why it happens.

I plugged my Satellite Z830-10U into power and left it powered on for half an hour and then I saw it like hibernated (screen off). Then it was left for 20 hrs from yesterday plugged into power outlet.. Now it has
its "DC-in" indicator flashing orange, power on indicator is green steadily, the eco indicator is also on and green. The screen is off and it is like the system shutdown.

The problem is that the power botton does not work and pressing it (either for a short or long time) has no
effect. I plug the AC adaptor into power while connected to the computer and I see the battery indicator goes
green and stays green until I unplug the AC adaptor from power outlet or disconnect the charger from

How can I turn it on and get back my files?

Thanks in advance.
M. Shams

A:Satellite Z830-10U does not power on

> How can I turn it on and get back my files?
Well, the files are on the HDD?
So you can remove the HDD from the notebook and you can use an external USB to SATA controller /enclosure in order to connect the HDD to another computer.
This would be the easiest way to get the access to the files?

The other story is the notebook power functionality?
For me it looks like its hardware related issue and in such case the unit needs to be checked by service technician? hopefully its not a motherboard because in such case the mobo needs to be replaced and this might be a costly affair?

Is warranty valid?

A:Satellite Pro M60-164 doesn't power up at all

It seams that this has nothing to do with power mains but with an internal hardware problem on the mobo.
I think you should firstly check the both memory modules inside the notebook.
If the notebook would not power up even using new modules, then other parts like CPU or motherboard should be checked.

Sorry but this is everything what I could suggest you.

First of all a good news: your personal files on the HDD like pictures, photos should not be affected.

You could get access to the files removing the HDD from the notebook (details here: and connecting this HDD to another computer using an USB-SATA 2.5” enclosure.

Now bad news: from my point of few your notebook developed an serious hardware malfunction; maybe its just an RAM module problem… in such case you would need to replace only the RAM modules but in worst case the motherboard could be faulty and such fix could be very expensive procedure.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L50-A-161 with an integrated Li-ion battery.
The removal of this Toshiba battery is quite complicated: it is necessary to open the case unscrewing 14 screws and remove the dvd unit. The battery itself is fixed to the motherboard with 4 screws and a pin connector. See this instructive youtube video.
My main concern is that I need to use my notebook daily for a prolonged period of time, many hours a day, often from morning to night, and I rarely need the battery as a source of power, working in places where the AC power is always available.
To some extent I would mainly need and use the battery as an AC filter. Many in fact suggest not to remove it so to avoid to expose motherboard and hard disk to power surges, and also not everybody can afford a UPS for every place he is supposed to move to.
With this in mind, I am wondering what practice suits me best: keep the laptop connected to the AC grid and calibrate the battery once a month with occasional partial discharges/charges would be safe? Battery University writes that ?Most users do not remove the AC power, and this practice is safe?, but of course this goes against the ?Partial charge better than a full charge? guidance rule: keeping the laptop connected to the AC grid would keep the battery always at 100% charge.

Besides Battery University points out that "charging stops when the Li-ion battery is full" and that it is not necessary to remove the battery when ... Read more

i tried everything, from removing the battery to replace hard drives an other components.. (with the help of a expert). Eventually i took it to the toshiba support center and the guy only tells me that is the systemboard what is wrong with the computer.

I recently bought a replacement power adapter for my dell e1505. The computer works but it won't charge the battery and tells me that since the computer does not recognize the charger, I need to reseat the power adapter... What does that mean?

A:Power Adapter

Hello aaronbaron,

Reseat the power adapter just means make sure the power adapter is plugged in good on the laptop and the wall outlet. I would try powering off the laptop, unplug the power cord, take the new battery out. Reinstall the new battery only and try to power on the computer. If that does not work plug in the power cord and power up with the new battery installed.

Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.

I called their customer support number and talked to a lady, but her best advice was return to the store and ask there. My experience with this store over the years has been fat chance for this kind of request. Has anyone got a suggestion as to where I can purchase such a USB Power Adapter?

A:USB Hub Power Adapter

Radio Shack would be a good place to start although you might have to get one of their adjustable models. A Google search should also turn up something. Actually I just replaced my D-Link powered USB1 hub with a USB2 model. The old one is just sitting around and it has a 5V 2.4A adapter. If you want it so you can use the adapter just PM me and I'll send it to you.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L350-20N.
I was using it about a week ago and it was working perfectly, everything fine hard drive and all.
Then the next day I tried to power it on, I can hear the fan running and it trying to boot up from disc. But the screen doesn't power on.

I've tried the hard reboot taking out the battery thing.
I've also checked that the RAM is fine.
I've also tried hooking it up to an external monitor but it doesn't come up with anything.

What is wrong with my laptop?

P.S. I need it working soon as I am starting senior education.

Thanks in advance!

Remove battery, disconnect AC adaptor, press and hold power button 30sec long.

Hi all and thanks in advance.

I'm trying to repair a Toshiba Satellite 2455-S305 that will not power on after being dropped on it's corner. It hit on the corner where the speaker and power jack are.
When I plug it in, the power light and battery charging light come on. If I press the power button, the power light comes on, but I don't hear anything, see anything, or feel any vibration to show that it's actually trying to boot or anything.

I opened it up, took it apart and reseated every connector, RAM, and drive and am still seeing the same problem.

The power jack is removable, and attached via cable to the motherboard. It looked like it was in pretty good shape and the cable and connector did not seem to be stressed.

I also tried plugging it in to an external monitor with no results.

Any suggestions?

A:Toshiba Satellite won't power on after being dropped

Maybe you damaged the motherboard or CPU?

...and this would probably mean the laptop would make a 'beep' sound, but maybe u damaged the sound too?

About 2 weeks ago, my power adaptor stopped working, i know its an issue with that and not a fatal issue with the laptop.

I know i can buy one from here, but I dont really want to fork out for one when i could claim one.
I have got a 1 year warranty with Toshiba that has run-out and also bought 3 years extended warranty with Comet UK.
I was wondering if the Power Adaptor is covered on the warranty either from toshiba or from comet.

Any help would be appreciated.
Bought the laptop May 2008.
Extended Warranty expires May 2011.
Money is rather tight at the moment otherwise i would have already bought one for ?80 from toshiba.

I have to hold the power button in for 3 seconds to restart the laptop and try it again. If i do this like 10 times it will sometimes power on and function properly until I close my laptop again. When you are trying to turn it on are there any bleeps or do any lights flash in any kind of sequence ?

A couple of things you could try and that is a cold boot and/or resetting the BIOS.

A cold boot is when you remove the battery and the AC power cord then hold the power button in for 40 secs - 1min.

Hi. I was given this Laptop (Satellite M60 -183) with the problem described.
After you press the power butoon, the power led turns on, you can hear the fan spin (only a few times not always), the screen stays black, and after a few 3-5 seconds it just turns off.
I have tried it several times with the same results. Also I tried using only ac power, reseating ram, hard drive, dvd rom, removing everything, but with the same result.

I have now dissasembled the entire laptop and try to operate it with just the basics. They told me that the original charger had stopped working and they replaced it with a generic one.
The laptop specifications say that it needs 19v and 3.95A, while the new charger has 19v and 6A.Do you believe the difference in the ampers could damage the system this way?....

Any help appreciated. Thanks

Whenever I leave my ~3 month old laptop powered off - completely powered off, as in shut down - for about a week, when I come back it has lost all power and needs to be charged up again. This is obviously rather irritating, particularly because I bought it to replace my old laptop when the battery on it broke.

Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Satellite Pro C50-A-1E5 loses power while shut down

Such notebook behavior can happen in case some BIOS functions are enabled.
You should disable in BIOS the wake up options like Wake Up on LAN or Wake Up on Keyboard, etc?
Furthermore you should disable the option Sleep & Charge (if available)

PS: Don?t forget to save the changes in BIOS.

A:Satellite Pro L series: Fan always run even in IDLE when LAN power is on

Just view questions:
What notebook model do you have exactly?
What system are you using?
What do you mean by LAN power exactly?

I can just tell you that the cooling modules are controlled by fan table stored in the BIOS.
Usually the cooling fan starts to rotate if the CPU would be loaded by some single applications/processes. It could be also possible that your fan rotates continuously with low performance in order to keep the temperature low. This isn?t a real notebook problem.

I have a Inspiron 15 3541 touch screen and "misplaced" my power cord and adapter. I'm using a Dell adapter from a different computer, but when I turned on my laptop, I get a message requiring a system or admin password even before it boots up. Is this because of the different adapter? How many pins did my adapter have? What problems does a different adapter create?

A:Power adapter pins

The password that is showing up before your computer boots sounds like there is a BIOS password set on the computer.  Unfortunately if you don't remember that password then you are probably stuck.  You can probably go online and search and see if there is a way to reset BIOS on the laptop and get it to default and remove the password that is set on it.  If there is a hard drive password though then the only way to remove that if you forgot it is to install a new hard drive as the password will follow the drive, not the computer.
Your power supply should have only 1 pin.  Dell used the same adapter for their computers for a while, they come in different wattage though and if you use an adapter that is too low then it may not be able to charge the battery while you use it or at all.  If the plug fits and it is a Dell charger you should be okay to at least get the computer up and running.  If it is a low wattage charger and the setting is set in BIOS (usually is by default) you'll get a message from your computer telling you that the charger isn't powerful enough to charge the battery while in use.

I have a compaq nx6325 lap top, which will not turn on at all. The power adapter

A:Power adapter center pin

Sounds like the Centre pin has broken away and lodged itself in the plug. I cannot tell you which is positive and which is negative with regards to the rings on the plug. Because different Manufacturers use different combinations and with that different Voltages too. Generally speaking the outside piece is the male end and the receiving plug is the female -go figure-
Hope this link works you can see what I am mentioning, obviously this is not your cable but for the example of male to female ends the description matches the pictures ( not the 'Y' cord on the link )

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:

Or can I get something such as this:
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

A:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

This is a recent problem - a previous adapter broke and now subsequent adapters use 100% CPU and sloooow my laptop.

It's an hp 6720s 13 months old, XP Home, HP 65W power adapter.

Laptop running fine on battery only. Laptop runs fine when battery removed and power adapter is connected. Laptop does not run fine when battery and power adapter connected - 100% CPU.

Also, the charge indicator light no longer works and the power icon does not show that the battery is charging, although it is.

I've updated the BIOS, restored factory power settings and tested the power adapter during startup and have the same prob with the CPU usage.

My neighbour was given a second-hand computer and asked for my help setting it up.

It is a Dell Optiplex 755 running Win7.

Currently installed graphics is NVidia Quadro FX 3500.

I looked up the service tag and this is not the original card (Original was ATI HD2400XT).

The issue I have is that the FX3500 is an 80W card, with the PCI-E slot having a max of 75W. On booting I get low power warnings from the NVidia card.

The card has a 6 pin PCI-E connection available for the additional power, but the PSU has no PCI-E power cable.

The only free power cables from the PSU are a couple of 15pin SATA cables. I have seen adapter cables for 15pin SATA to 6 pin PCI-E. Are these any good for my situation?

If not, what are the alternatives? New PSU? Different GFX card?

The Yoga 3 Pro power adapter looks like a normal USB brick, and the cord looks like USB, except with a kink in the connector at the Yoga 3 Pro end. Can I charge my phone or tablet with it?

A:What's with the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter - it's a ...

Yes the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter is a USB charger too!

How does it work?

The special "fool proof" charging cord has two extra pins on the AC adapter end and two extra pins on the Yoga 3 Pro end. The extra pins only make a connection when the fool proof cord is plugged in to the Lenovo charger and the Yoga 3 Pro. When a regular USB cord is plugged into either the charger or the Yoga 3 Pro, it makes a regular USB connection.

Can I charge the Yoga 3 Pro with any USB charger?

No. The Yoga 3 Pro requires 2A at 20V, which is what the provided 40W Lenovo AC adapter supplies.

Can I charge a USB device with the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter?

Absolutely. In addition to 2A at 20, the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter supplies 2A at 5.2V (10.4W), enough to charge a phone or tablet. Works for iPad.

Where can I buy spare AC adapters and cords?

AC adapters with cords are sold in the accessories section of the Lenovo store.

Where do I find the part numbers for the AC adapter and cord?

Look for AC Adapters In the PDF Yoga 3 Pro Hardware Maintenance Manual.

What are the USB specs of the Yoga 3 charging port?

It's a USB 2.0 port. It provides enough power to charge an iPhone, but not enough to charge an iPad. If you want to charge an iPad, try the USB 3.0 port on the right of the Yoga 3 Pro.

I have a 90w power adapter from an older notebook that will work with my HP DV5-1015nr. I transport my notebook between home and office. I'd like to utilize the older power brick, so that I won't need to transport a power brick back and forth. The tips on both adapters, of course, are of a different diameter.      My multi-tester identifies that the tip is hot for both adapters. The problem I have is that the older power brick has two wires: core wire (+) and shield (-), and the newer power adapter has three wires: shield that is connected to the core of tip (+), black that is connected to outer part of cylindrical shaft that must be the ground, and white connected to inner part of cylindrical shaft (also negative?). So do the black and white wires on the newer adapter need to be soldered to the shield on the older one?

A:Wiring for Power adapter?

Just a guess, since it is 90watt, they may have run the extra wire to carry the load, shield is always much larger than center tip wire. Did you measure voltage and ploarity of all three connections with the brick plugged in? Tip is always + and ouside is always - on a HP, not sure what the third is, see if there is any voltage on it, It could also be some sort of sensor wire for the charging system on the mobo. Better to buy another adapter than smoke the motherboard on the lappy taking a chance. If you want to chance it just connect the two wires that are on the center and outside. Leave the 3rd odd one unconnected. probably can be found used for cheap.

I recently purchased a Del Latitude 7202 Toughbook.
At same time purchased 12V power adapter.
The adapter was shipped separately.  SKU 469-4546.  The power plug did not fit computer.
It is too fat.  Spent 4 hours with tech support and they told me the wrong part was shipped.
They said they would send a replacement.  10 days later I get a package with an HDMI cable in it.
Call support back, was told they would just issue me a credit and I can purchase one online.
I was told I needed part.  450-AAYR.  Web page for that part lists the 7202 as compatible.
It arrived yesterday.  Still doesn't fit.  I am returning it as well.
What is required to get the correct part?

Recently I purchased a VX1945WM monitor and I was not given a power adapter to run the different integrated features that the monitor offers such as powered speakers and iPod dock among others. I tried contacting Viewsonic, but that was to no avail. If anyone knows the model number or distributor, please let me know.

Hi everyone.

I know that this is not really entirely related to a Windows 7 computer and especially to these forums, but I really need some advice on this and it would be great if anyone who has experience in voltage, amps and safety for laptop power adapters would be perfect.

My friend has just traveled down to my house for a week but has foolishly forgot his plug for the power socket on his power adapter. He uses this for his computer. Again unrelated becuase it is an Apple 45W MagSafe2 adapter.

So I was wondering if he could simply use a cord like this one below to plug into the adapter?
The black cord is 2.5A 250V~

The adapter is 100-240V~ 1A

These are both for input.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

A:Power Adapter Problem

That white 'thing' appears to be for an Apple Macintosh MacBook/MacBook Pro [I have a MacBook Pro] and you might not be able use the black cord due to fit, the V-shaped notch in the black plug would have to let it be inserted. But it probably won't hurt to try as it's still a 110/120Volt source.

The MacBook power adapter also came with a piece that replaced that cord and has the prongs to plug directly into a wall socket/extension cord, maybe it's in his Notebook bag.

I have an Acer 3690 laptop. Recently the original power adapter went bad. I went to a local computer company and had them order me a new one. The day I got it home and plugged it in the adapter smoked and the plastic split showing bare wires. We returned the adapter and they exchanged it for another one. The day we took the new one home it did the same thing. Any ideas what could be the problem???

I have this mode laptop: toshiba satelite p305d-s8900 And am going to have to replace the power adapter pretty soon. It cuts out all the time and the cord is so flimsy it will probably break pretty soon. Any idea where I can get a new one for under $50.00? I'd prefer to have an actual duplicate, not another brand thats just generic and cheap. On Toshiba's website the replacement is $89.00.

A:Toshiba - new a/c power adapter - where can I get a new one?

You can try Anything under $80 is going to be generic and cheap.

The power adapter on my HP Zbook 15u G3 is not recognized. I tried an alternate power adapter, but that is not recognized either. The charge on the battery is almost empty. I've been waiting on hold for 30 minutes with HP tech support. The notebook is only 4 months old.

A:Power adapter not recognized

Support was able to fix the issue. Holding down the power button & mute button for 30 seconds fixed the problem. Thank you

Though I had posted this previously, but cannot find it anywhere!

Got an Altec Lansing Multimedia Computer Speaker System ACS41. Apparently they were used on a Gateway 2000 PC.
However, the power adapter was lost.
The speakers do not have any electrical specs on them regarding voltage, amps, and polarity.

Anyone have a similar set of speakers, or,
know of any way this type of info can be found out, in order to get the right power adapter for them. Do not care to fry them with an overkill. The speakers probably came with PCs running Windows 98SE, or Windows Millennium.

Prefer not to go to Radio Shack, they normally are rather expensive, and the people who own this do not want to go that route.

Thanks for the help.

A:Power Adapter for Speaker Set

We had a system crash here and some posts were lost. There was an answer, but I forget what it was. It may be as cheap to buy a new pair of speakers as to buy a power adapter.

I have a 20 pin motherboard but the power supply I have available has a 24 pin connector. I've read that you can simply plug them together by offsetting the 24 pin one but so far I don't see that working at all (and 'never the twain shall meet', so to speak). I've found adapters but they all say something akin to

'allows you to connect your existing 20 pin power supply to your new 24-pin compatible motherboard'

You can use it the other way around, correct?

A:20 to 24 pin power supply adapter

Some mainboard connectors are 20+4 pins where the 4 pins unsnap from the 20 pins for use with boards with a 20 pin connector. If your power supply doesn't have that feature you would use an adapter such as this.

Hi all,

i hope im posting in the right section....(apologies if not)

The power adapter/charger for my toshiba laptop failed recently.

Im looking for a replacement and have see several different options.

The original toshiba part (part no: PA3290E-3AC3) is available for about 50 pounds
however ive seem lots online which are the same spec, and described as replacments for the above part. the thing is these cost less than half the price of the original
Although these are not the genuine part it says they will work.

i was a bit worried that it may damage my laptop if i dont use the exact part.

could anyone advise me on this please and the best thig to do.

A:power adapter does not work

I have a Toshiba that I am using an adapter made by Lite-On. I have been using it for about 2 years and no ill effects. It was about 1/3 the cost of the Toshiba adapter.
