A: G580 - Touchpad not working

Hi nikunjm022 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When did it started happening ? If this would be a power management settings then a system restore to go back to a previous working date may help.

Try to reset BIOS settings by turning on the pc using the Novo key (item5 page 2) and choose BIOS settings , F9 to reset F10 to save and exit .

You can also try updating the touchpad driver from the support site.

We are not eliminating probable affectation of a grounded battery , but would it also happen with an inserted battery while plugged with the adapter?

Update us how things go.

Regards

I bought my Lenovo G580 more than 3 years ago, and it came with Windows 8.
For a certain reason, my coworker installed on it windows 7.
I tried to restore it to the original image by using the Novo OneKey Rescue button next to the power button... but unfortunately it didn't work... when i press the Novo button, four (4) choices appear on the screen:
- Normal Setup
- BIOS Setup
- Boot Menu
- System Recovery
When i press "System Recovery", windows 7 starts normally without recovering anything...
Is there any way to restore my Laptop to the original factory software???
Thank you in advance...

A:G580 - Lenovo OneKey Rescue button is not working ...

Your One Key Recovery (OKR) button is working, but most likely the recovery partition that contained the necessary files was removed or destroyed during the install of Windows 7.You have a couple of options:1. Contact Lenovo Support by phone, ask if the recovery DVD's are still available and purchase them, it is a reasonable price...2. Purchase the retail DVD of Windows (7, 8.1 or 10) and perform a fresh install.3. Pick a Linux version you like - download and burn to DVD, then install from media.I personally use Windows 10 Pro and Linux Mint (Dual Boot) on my G580 with no hardware issues in either OS... Really like some of the applications that Linux has, and the fact that it is completely free to use.Good luck.CB

Hello. I have a Lenovo G580 Notebook with Windows 10 installed. The issue is that the Windows hotkeys, that is Windows key and other letter combinations, aren't working. For example, normally, if I press Windows key + I, then the Settings app should open up or if I press Windows key + R, then Run should open up. But the Start screen opens up instead in all such cases.

This is happening since I have updated the Synaptics touchpad driver via Windows Update. If I uninstall the driver, then the hotkeys start working again. But as soon as I install the driver, they stop working. This was not happening with Windows 10 before, even when the Synaptics driver was installed. It has suddenly started happening couple of months ago. Also I cannot completely uninstall the Synaptics driver because my laptop came with it itself nor can I stop the driver from updating as it is an important driver and it needs to be updated to be compatible with Windows 10.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

A:Windows hotkeys not working on Lenovo G580 Notebook (Windows 10).

If you PM me your email address I will send you a link to the Synaptics driver that works for me. Then you will have to use the HideUpdate hotfix to keep Windows update from changing it.

Hello Tristan,

Welcome to the forums.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Sorry I can't be of more help. The manual for the laptop ought to have that info in it somewhere.

Hi, I have a i5-4210U CPU. My touchpad turns itself on and off. It doesnt happen periodically, its entire sections when I am using the computer. And other days it works normally. I have tried every tip from forums: double click the top left corner of the pad (the light is not glowing at all), I have tried to update the software to the latest version, I have tried to restore to a pervious version, I have tried to uninstall and then installing the touchpad again. Nothing works, and it gets very annoying not knowing if it works every time I turn on my computer. Can someone help me?

Hi, I've had a Lenovo P50 thinkpad for a few days, and initially the touchpad was working absoluely fine. But today it just randomly stopped functining all together. All the touchpad/tracker buttons/detection just doesn't respond.  I have to naivate my laptop using a mouse at the moment. I've tried re-installing the Synaptics pointing device driver but it didn't change anything - the touchpad is still unresponsive. I also noticed that when I drill into the "Mouse" properties under Control Panel, the touchpad/tracker options are disabled in the GUI, and only the touchpad is ticked (tracker is not ticked) - however, since they're disbaled I can't change anything.  I also checked my BIOS to see if the touchpad got disabled there, but it is actually enabled. Any ideas on what to do? Cheers

Hi, guys. I have acer aspire v nitro vn7-791g and my touchpad does not work. After I upgraded my ram, the touchpad no longer works. I might have pulled the cable, but I re-checked and everything seems to be connected, but there is no touchpad in the device manager. I tried using the fn+f7 option, but that didn't work either. Tried installing drivers, no luck. I have no idea what to do.

A:Touchpad not working

Visit Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site and see if you can download the touchpad drivers there. My guess is that Device Manager will have an unknown device showing to which you can attempt to install this driver. It may very well fix your problem. OTOH, if this driver has an .exe (or equivalent programmatic) installer, you should be able to run it and get the driver working that way. Please give it a try and let us know what happens. You can fix this.

Good day and welcome to the community.

Which specific S41 model do you have? I see three on the support site: S41-75, S41-70 and S41-35.

Looking at each support page, I see the touchpad driver package, which is apparently a composite installer supporting three different touchpad models: Synaptics, Elan and Alps.

S41-75http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-S-Series-laptops/s41-75/downloa...synaptics 19.0.9.5, Elan 11.4.65.2, ALPS 8.201.1611.246

Does this help?

I'm sorry I haven't the time right now to research them but their are plenty of very knowledgeable members here that I'm sure we can get it sorted out. Fabe http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

Hi negozin ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Have you checked the hidden devices on device manager if any of those would show with any yellow marks / unknown device? The support site do offer Touchpad driver for Win10 that you can try .

You can Reset the BIOS defaults by turning off the pc and using the Novo key to access BIOS set up . F9 to load defaults and F10 to save and exit . Allow to restart and check if touchpad would be able to move the mouse.

Update us how it goes.

Since it doesn't work at all, go to Control panel, Programs and Features and uninstall the touchpad driver there and make sure that there isn't any other driver installed for the touchpad. Then go to Device Manager and uninstall the touchpad if it still shows any driver. Then reboot and let windows install the default driver. It should do something with the default driver if it was just a driver problem.

My Asus touchpad won't work. Originally left button became unresponsive then entire touchpad stopped working. Was able to use the touchpad in safe mood, but now the left button seems to be becoming unresponsive again. Troubleshoot says touchpad is up to date and working properly. Help!

A:Touchpad not working

If it's fully functional in Safe Mode then the hardware is good. Try a System Restore to a time prior to when the problem 1st started. There could be an issue with the device driver, although why it would only show up in "normal mode" I can't say. Well, it could be malware hiding as your touchpad's driver, but that's a bit "out there" at this point. Might be worth checking Hardware manager, click "show hidden devices" and report any flagged devices there might be.

Hello,

I have a Dell Vostro 1510 running Windows XP. When I start my computer I get as far as the logon screen, but of course I can't click on a username to get to the desktop because the cursor won't move using the touchpad. I've never had a mouse attached to the computer so I'm guessing that buying a USB mouse and plugging it in won't solve my problem since I can't load the software? How do I get past the logon screen without having the ability to move the cursor? Everything I've read about bypassing the logon screen or using the keyboard to manipulate the cursor assumes I have the ability to get to "Start" -> "Run" or "Start -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel", which I don't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you buy a basic USB mouse, you won't need any software.

It's worth a try if you want to go that route.

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

Hi, Try the following - connect a usb Mouse where required. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager window, expand Mice and other pointing devices. Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, shutdown the notebook. Disconnect any peripheral, including any usb Mouse. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking the touchpad function. Regards, DP-K

Hey all,

I have an Asus EEE 901, and a little while ago it fell off the table and the screen smashed. So I bought a replacement, opened the machine up and replaced the screen. No issues with that.

Unfortunately in the process I damaged the touchpad ribbon cable (I think). I bought a new ribbon cable and am still having problems. So when I boot up into Windows I couldn't move the mouse with the inbuilt trackpad unless I plugged in an external mouse. This is also the same if I boot to a Live DVD. There is nothing in the bios I can see to disable the touchpad. Under windows, under "mouse" in control panel there was nothing listed.

The cable is in firmly and correctly, I have looked and can't see any damage to it. When it was plugged in I licked the other end (the touchpad end) to confirm the cable is definitely connected at the motherboard end (and works). I have tried it both ways round at the touchpad end.

I have just this second upgraded the OS to Windows 7 to eliminate the possibility of it being software related. Still the same issue - what can I do?

I spent £6 on this cable and £30 on the screen, the whole machine is worth around £130, I really don't want to be spending any more or I might as well sell and get a replacement (which I don't want the hassle of)! Any suggestions?

The only thing i can find wrong is the Touch-pad is not working. Plugin Mouse is fine.
All that is showing in Device Manager is:

Mice and other pointing devices
- HID-compliant Mouse
- Unknown Device

I have downloaded both Synaptics & Alps Drivers from the Toshiba site, these did not seem to have any effect.

Looking about the Forums, i found out about Enabling/Disabling Touchpads...

No actual switch i can find....BUT the major problem is it will not let me into Control Panel--->Mouse ....just get an error box with no error showing

Also tried using the Command prompt with CONTROL MOUSE (or) MAIN.CPL but still no good

There are five chipset drivers on hp.com for the Stream 11 and one is required for the touchpad to work, I think it's Intel Serial IO Driver without Connected Standby Support.  Install that and reboot and see if that fixes it and if not, install the other four.

What state is your laptop on when the touchpad issue occurred? This happens on my fujitsu laptop when charger is plugged in. After a quick googling, found out that I just had to put the "brick" part of the charger to a good distance away from my laptop. Worked wonders! Issue usually happens with replacement chargers (due to voltage or ampere incompatibility).

Not sure though if this was your case.

I have an ES1-512 laptop and when I first got it the touchpad worked fine. I then started using a Microsft Wireless mouse and now the touchpad doesn't work. There is no driver installed for it and it doesn't appear in the device manager. If I do a search for new hardware it is not detected. I tried the fn f7 but this did not help. I tried using Acer Recovery but the touchpad is not listed so I can't load the driver. I even checked the website and again no driver for the touchpad. I have run out of ideas.

A:Touchpad not working in Windows 8.1

This may sound silly.  Because it's the first thing most would do.  But you didn't mention it. Did you check settings to make sure the touchpad is enabled?  You may have turned it off when setting up the mouse. To access settings in Win 8.1 it's Windows Key + C.  Or you can getting there by swiping right and bringing up the charms.

Dear HP support,

the touchpad on our Spectre x2 doesn't seem do be working anymore-

I've read what's been suggested on another similar post. We're happy to perform this "hard reset" but how can we be sure we're not going to lose some data / create any additional problem on the pc?

Thanks a lot,

Pier

Hard reset will not affect data. I have done many, many of them. It is also not very likely to fix the issue, but worth a try since it is easy and free.

Hi,  My HP Omen recently has been stuffing up a lot lately. I sent it in to HP after the screen had popped out. I thought they had fixed it but as soon as I opened my laptop when they sent it back, it happened again. I have to just push it back in now as I cannot wait another month for them to fix it AGAIN. Another problem is the mouse and touchpad. On some days, they both work fine... everything is good, everything is efficient, BUT on most days my touchpad won't even show the pointer... like everything just went missing. My keypad does the same thing, it stops typing. I have to constantly reboot my computer, taking out the AC and battery and reinstalling the touchpad driver. Rebooting the computer and reinstalling the driver used to work but now, it won't even let me go 5 minutes without "crashing". I'm also using an external mouse right now but I need to have access to my touchpad.   Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

The Touchpad on a cliŽnts S540 is not working anymore. It started with complaints about non-responsiveness when the laptop woke from sleep (after being closed and opened).I've tried to install the latest drivers (18.0.7.99) from the Lenovo website but that didn't give a solution. The laptop is running Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

Did this just happen recently after an update of some sort? Use a usb wired or wireless mouse as a temporary workaround Invoke the Control panel. Select small icons and then ,  the Mouse section. Select the Hardware tab to see the status of the touchpad. What do you see there? Try double tapping very quickly in the upper left-hand corner of the touchpad to enable it.

Read lots of threads relating to faulty touchpads but none of the solutions seem to work for me. I have an emachines d620 running vista. Can move the touchpad curser but it will not click. Right button works, left does not. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and have checked the touchpad is enabled. Have also checked the sensitivity settings. All seem ok. device manager says the device is working properly. I am urrently using a usb mouse which is working fine. Hope you can help.

A:Solved: Touchpad not working

It's my guess the left-click button is worn out or broken and no longer working. I had that issue with a Toshiba laptop that I worked on a couple of years ago. The owner now uses an external USB wireless mouse.

My notebook is runnning Windows 10, and the touchpad has not been working well recently. I can use the touchpad to left click and select multiple items in the past, however this cannot be done now. The right click of the touchpad is not working too. I used to right click a link and select "open in new tab" in the past but now cannot. Either the left click or right click of the touchpad are not working well. I would be grateful if my problem can be fixed. Thank you!

Hi everyone, and Happy Holidays,

I just installed windows 7 ultimate on my daughters, acer aspire 3050 laptop. It was running vista home basic before. The vista install was damaged by viruses, so I decided to upgrade her to 7. All the hardware was recognized, but for some reason the keyboard does not work, it was working fine with the virus riddled vista install. For some strange reason the windows key does bring up the start menu, but none of the other keys seem to do anything. They all work in the BIOS just fine. Also the touch pad does work, but the cursor movement is very jerky, and it was also fine in vista. I went to acer's site, they don't have any windows 7 drivers available for this model, or any vista drivers for the keyboard, I installed the vista touch pad drivers, but they did not seem to help. I also messed with the keyboard settings in control panel, but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas, on what I need to do to fix this. I have been really pleased with 7 on my other computers, and would hate to have to go back to vista. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated, Thank you in advance,

Steve

A:keyboard and touchpad not working

The reason it won't work is because there is no Windows 7 support for your acer aspire 3050 laptop. You can see this at the Acer website, choose Notebook, Aspire then Aspire 3050 which will show you a page for your laptop. You can see there is no Windows 7 support as yet. Acer Support - Drivers & Download

Looks like you already found this out.

Let me look around and see if anyone has found a driver that will work. Nothing found that is made for your exact model so far.

Your model isn't on the list of supported laptops but that doesn't mean that a touchpad driver from another notebook won't work on your model. I would pick a model on the Windows 7 supported list, then find the touchpad and keyboard driver for that model and try it out.

Hey everyone this is my first post here,
I'm hoping to get some guidance to resolve and issue I've been having with a laptop I am trying to refurbish. It's a HP Pavillon TX1000 I got from a friend. I put in a new Western Digital scorpio Blue HD and installed Vista Home.
Everything seemed fine but after installing drivers from the HP site and antivirus and malwarebytes, the touchpad stopped working. It had been fine beforehand. I had to plug in a USB mouse which works fine.
So far I've tried these things:
In control panel looking at the mouse settings the Synaptics Touchpad is greyed out and I can't enable or disable it. I can only remove the usb keyboard driver.
I system restored but it hasn't helped.
I download the Synaptics Touchpad driver again and reinstalled it, but it didn't make any difference.
There is a button above the touchpad which is supposed to enable and disable the pad but pressing it makes no difference, the blue light shows it's enabled but it's not.
I am trying a windows reinstall but even during that I am having to use the usb mouse.
Any ideas what I can try next???
The laptop specs are: The laptop specs are: AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.90 GHZ

Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals and look for Touch Pad, if it is Disabled, Enable it.
boot normally, and go to the computer manufacturers Support/Download drivers site and type in your make and model # or your service tag # and download the touchpad driver for your model.

A:Vaio Touchpad not working along with right key below it

Hello saachi004 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Could be something as simple as some dirt getting under the key and preventing it from making contact. A can of compressed air might help. Or it could be something major like faulty wiring, a damaged contact/pressure switch, etc which would probably require a repair facility to fix. How long have you had this problem? If the Vaio is still under warranty it might be best to have a repair facility take a look at it.

You could try this:

1. Turn the laptop off and remove all attachments including the battery.

2. Press the power button for about 15 seconds.

3. Replace the battery and power connection.

4. Boot the laptop and press F2 at the splashscreen to go into setup.

5. Press F9 which will reset to defaults.

6. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Answer 'yes'.

7. Laptop will reboot.

Hopefully this will solve your problem.

No idea if this is hardware or software, but I'm trying this first.

I have an Inspiron 1525 laptop running Vista. My touchpad stopped working for some random reason a couple days ago except for the buttons. It might have started working again a while ago, but I just noticed 2 hours or so again that it was working, except for 2 things: I can't do that... uhhh... dunno what it's called, where you click the two buttons together and it does what clicking the mouse wheel on a normal mouse would do... and I can't scroll. The thing on my taskbar that tells me where my finger is on the touchpad has disappeared, as well.

A:Touchpad not working properly

Touchpads are usually proprietary pieces of hardware that have drivers supplied by the manufacturers. Check your device manager and settings in Control Panel (it may be under the Mouse settings) to be sure everything is all right there.

You might also go to the manufacturer's web site to check on a driver, and maybe an update to it. You could always reinstall it, anyway.

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing.  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only three days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.
These were both brand new computers with the exact same issue.  Is Dell simply incapable of making a decent computer any more?  I used to love Dell; this was my fifth Dell computer, but maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

I recently got a friend of mine get me a Thinkpad P50 laptop from US (I live in India). Since beginning I am having issues with the touchpad. Initially the touchpad (including touchpad keys and the trackpopint) would work for some time and then stop responding completely until rebooted. However since last few days the touchpad is completely dead. I get a message whenever I start the laptop that touchpad was not detected. I have tried installing drivers for the touchpad from lenovo website as well as doing a factory reset, but nothing seems to have worked so far. I also took the laptop to the lenovo service center in India, but they have refused to look into the issue, since the laptop was purchased in US and the Lenovo website does not list India as a country where international warrenty for this laptop is applicable. Infact the site for this laptop is blank and does not show any country. Any suggestions what I should be doing next to resolve this would be greately appreciated.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 7559 for about a week now, it runs windows 10. Over the past few days the trackpad has started to not work. At first the single tap (left click) didn't work. But the left click button worked fine and the two tap (right click) worked fine too. I restarted it, single tap works again.
This happened a couple more times and I decided to investigate. There was no touchpad on my mouse settings, only a HID-compliant mouse and a PS/2 Compatible Mouse. I don't have any mice. I did a driver update for both of the above and ELAN input device showed up. I did a driver update for it and it worked ok for a couple of hours and it said it is working properly. However if stopped working again and I went back to the settings and whilst windows 10 settings said the trackpad was on, the ELAN tab on the mouse properties said that the Elan smart-pad was not enabled it and restarted. When I went back to the same settings after the restart, it was not enabled again. So I enabled it. Two hours later, the trackpad was back to not registering single taps. Enabling and disabling the ELAN trackpad appears to do nothing.
The next day, single tap stopped working and then all the buttons and taps stopped working but scroll/zoom etc still worked. I restarted and it worked again. Later on it had the issue that the trackpad would only select things on the start bar. Once you opened something you couldn't click at all. Again I restarted and it "fixed"... Read more

Hey there, A couple nights ago the touchpad on my Spectre X2 stopped working. I have a feeling that a driver might be missing as I can't find one running on my computer, but I'm not overly capable at computers so I might just be looking over it. I tried downloading a driver from the HP drivers page but there were no drivers available for the touchpad, so I'm just wondering if it could possibly be something else. A:Spectre x2 touchpad not working?

Hello @ah1995, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! I understand that the touchpad on your HP Spectre x2 12-a002au is not functioning. Since the touchpad did temporarily work when you installed the driver, it isn't likely a hardware issue. Please begin troubleshooting with a hard reset. Once the notebook is back on, follow the steps from these touchpad document: HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10) Be sure to post back with the results!
