Last week, I purchased a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Yoga Chromebook. When I received it, it was sealed in the original packaging with a sticker indicating that it had been refurbished at a Lenovo facility. When I turned it on, I got stuck at the Enterprise Enrollment screen. It seems that it was registered to the domain of the original owner and would not let anyone login without credentials for that domain. The trackpad was also non-responsive, but I figured once I logged in, I could toggle the trackpad settings and get it working. There was a link to contact Google for help with this, so I followed those instructions. Google said that they could not help me, and that I'd need to contact the original owner to have them de-register the device. Since I had no connection to the original owner, I contacted the seller who apologized and told me that, since the device had a full warranty, Lenovo should be able to fix the issue. So, I contacted Lenovo for help on Sunday. The Tech Support Agent that I spoke to first tried to tell me to return the device and get something that ran Windows since Chrome OS and Android are inferior(!). Anyway, once I assured him that I did indeed want a Chromebook and knew all about Chrome OS, he told me that I could send it in for repair, and that all they'd need to do was wipe the system and re-install the OS with a consumer image instead of the enterprise image that was on the machine. I told him I was concerned about doing this since I had a 14-day return window, and I didn't want to miss this. He assured me that I'd have a return box the next day, and that Lenovo would receive my Chromebook the following day, and that they should be able to turn-around the repair in less than 24 hours and get the machine back to me by Thursday or Friday. He also said that if the trackpad turned out to be defective, they could replace that quickly as well. I received the return box on Tuesday and shipped it out the same day. Lenovo received the machine on Wednesday morning and began repairs at 7am. Before 10am the status changes to "Hold for Parts", so I called to find out what was going on. They connected me with someone in the Repair Depot who said that the trackpad and keyboard bezel needed to be replaced, and they had to wait for parts. When I asked about the software issue I had actually sent it in for, they seemed very confused. They said that they'd need to "reinstall the original OS" and wipe the hard drive which I gave them permission to do. They then asked if it was running Windows 7 or Windows 8. I explained that it was a Chromebook and was running Chrome OS, but the technician didn't seem to know what Chrome OS was which didn't instill any confidence, but she said she'd make a note of the information. On Thursday morning, the status change to "Machine being repaired" which I took to mean that the required parts had arrived. However, a couple hours later, the status changed back to "Hold for parts", so I called for information. This time I was told that they had to replace the keyboard, the keyboard bezel, and the trackpad which hadn't solved the issue, so they had gone ahead and replaced the "monitor screen" and "touch screen" as well. I reiterated that I had sent the machine in for a software issue, and they assured me that as soon as the hardware problems were taken care of, they'd move onto fixing the OS problem. This morning I called back when I saw that the status had changed to "Hold for customer information". I was told that they actually didn't need any information from me, and that the machine had been "sent out for testing" last night after they replaced the "circuit board". They said that no further information was available. I called back again around 11:30 and was told that they were still testing things. At that time, I asked if I could speak to someone who was actually working on my Chromebook, and I was put on hold. The rep came back to say that it was taking a long time and that he'd stay on hold and request that the technician update the status so that I could find the latest information through the website. I also requested that I get a call-back with more information. I also expressed my frustration with the fact that this was a new machine to me that had supposedly been refurbished by Lenovo which their techs had now replaced nearly every part. To me, it seems that they're spending a lot of time (which costs Lenovo money) and parts on this repair, and maybe it'd be in everyone's best interest to replace the Chromebook with a new one. He said that this was an option he'd explore. An hour later, I've gotten no call-back and the only indication that anything has changed is that my status has changed back to "Machine being repaired". It's my guess that no one in the Think Pad division knows anything about Chromebooks, so they just keep replacing parts. I'm stuck in the middle worried that Lenovo won't fix this machine and I'll get it back after the return window has closed. Either way, I'm frustrated and annoyed. I'm hoping that someone at Lenovo will read this (very long) post and reach out to help a frustrated customer.

Just wanted to update this. I spoke to one of the managers (i think) in the Depot who took responsibility for the repair of my new Chromebook. Long story short, it's been repaired, I received it back today, and it's working.

I have an almost brand new T450s that, overnight, the left trackpoint button just stopped "clicking". It still works but has no tactile feedback so is kind of unusable in daily practice. A physical scan yielded no issues, so I opened up a case and Lenovo accepted it and shipped me a box to send my laptop. I'm really pissed since this is seriously like a 2 month laptop, but hopefully the turnover time won't be too bad. Questions: 1. for something as simple mechanical as this, do they wipe the HD?2. what are experiences on time/etc for this3. before I actually mail it in, should I reconsider? eg, does sending it in make it WORSE somehow because of bad techs? Is it the old "going to the hospital makes you sicker than just bearing the flu outside"? Thanks much!Jake

No. In fact you can remove the HDD from the T450s before you send in the system for repair.

Normally you get the repaired system in a week or less. Sometimes repairs get delayed due to replacement parts being unavailable.

A photo colleague dumped his Chromebook on my lap (gratis) with some [email protected]#$ comments ... I will not comment as to why, and I thought this could replace my clunky W540 for pre made portfolio/slide or video presentations. OK, here is the deal.  The Cloud storage is nice, but I'm off on the road with no WiFi, at a client's house. Last time I tested the Chrome Cloud, the presentation 'stuttered' and the flow was disconcerting, and was a discredit to my abilities. I have mutliple prsentations, and 16gb is not enough, particularly when visiting distinct client with different or multiple  portfolio requirements. Is there any way to change the 16gb standard card to a 64gb (There are now 200gb micro SD cards!): Sandisk 200GB SD - The future. I hate to fiddle with the built in SD port, not counting the potential loss of these tiny cards.  I would like it to be an  internal or at least sealed and protected from accidental 'pop-outs'. As the eMMC is actually built on the SD card protocol, can I open and replace the meager 16gb with a more modern larger storage for of WiFi use. Any hack or hints before I pass this unit off, would be appreciated.  Incredible 'oyster' closure system.  Even the Chrome Pixel has a lid finger catch groove.

I do have and use the "SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive":  Did not try it in Chromebook yet, as the Google Store does not seem to have the Chrome extension.  It does play well on my Adroids (Cell and Tablet). Sandisk Wireless Media drive. That may be a way to go if I can get it to work as just a raw drive using some workaround software controls.  I guess another workaround and something else to carry & lose.

Hi all, I bought Yoga 11e Chromebook for a high schooler in my family, and she was happy with it. A couple of weeks ago, in her science class she couldn't access some web resources - I bet they written as "Windows or Mac only" web resources.   Now, I am thinking installing Windows on it, to make her school life easier - Because she is a student she can have a Windows license at no cost from government software centre for students.   The machine is still under warranty and I would like to know: 1. Will Lenove be helpful to provide me all the information?2. Can I do this without warranty void?3. Is it possible to install WIndows on Yoga 11e Chromebook?4. As long as you can enter development mode I beleive you can install Windows on it (assuming the hardware meets the requirements) While it is for the pixel, the instructions seem to be universal for chromebooks.   I'm not sure about warranty voiding though.

I think im affected by this battery problem the image installs succesfully but i cant see any message in the syslog saying anything about the battery update, because is empty all the time. top tool shows an uptime of 30 minutes... long enough for the upgrade to finish. I tried it several times. how can i tell what version of the battery firmware am i running? im still getting very low battery live (around 2h) thanks!!

The symptoms seem to match .   The support tip you reference is being updated in the next 24-48 hours.
You might try this alternate / new solution....
In ThinkPad 11e Chromebook and ThinkPad Yoga 11e Chromebook, the battery may experience poor longevity or not be able to power the system with the battery alone.
To update the battery firmware:

Logon to the Chromebook and update the Chromebook to the latest version of Chrome OS. (
Press Ctrl-Alt-T to enter the crosh terminal page.
Plug in the A/C power adapter and keep it plugged while performing the following step.
In the crosh terminal page, type battery_firmware update and press Enter to update the firmware.  It may take up to 10 minutes.  Do not remove A/C power until the update has completed.

Hi, I have following problem: If I charge my chromebook and have it in sleep mode (e.g. closed lid), it will turn off (crash) after a while. I recently got my Yoga 11e Chromebook and the wireless-status indicator which is ontop of the laptop's screen.  When I shut my laptop down, the light doesn't go off. Everything else is off like the ThinkPad light. It is draining my battery power and I looked through support and I couldn't get any help from it. I have the latest Chrome OS (Version 39). I believe it could be a hardware problem but if it is a software problem, can you please advise me on how to fix this problem.  Thank you

I had a problem with my yoga 700 11". The laptop freezes every so often (3-6 hours). At first I thought it's the drivers that need to be updated, then Windows 10 updates, then BIOS update.I tried all of that but the problem still persisted. I did the recovery reset but still the same... I created Linux system on USB flash drive and booted the laptop with it. Even under Linux the laptop was freezing.I contacted lenovo support team and they said the laptop needs to be repaired and they send me the return free postage vocher. I put my laptop in the original box and posted it as I was instructed (for some reason it was send to Germany). The company name that issued me with the postage slip was MEDION AG - A Lenovo CompanyAfter 13 days I got an email saying:"...After assessing your device, the repair center has deemed that a repair cannot be completed under the manufacturer?s warranty due the case of the device showing signs of inappropriate treatment. ..." There were two pdf documents attached to the email. one with the detailed photos of the damage ( see photo attached) and the other one, the cost estimate document. In the document I was given two options:1. accept the cost of repair (£54.65)2. not accept and the laptop would be return to me (I would be still charged fat price of £44.07)My reply was that I do not recall the laptop having this damage and I always looked after it. My Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is broken and our of warranty. (I bought it slightly more than a year ago).
The wifi card is either broken, or perhaps it is being de-activated by the bios. In either event I can't seem to fix it, even after trying a few of the fixes listed on this forum.
Is there some way to get the machine repaired? Are there repair centres I can bring it to somewhere?

Since your laptop is out of warranty you can take it basically anywhere to have it serviced.  Best Buy comes to mind as well as many of the locally owned computer repair shops.  If you are interested in having your laptop serviced locally at a Lenovo authorized Service Center then check out my link below.  Just enter in your city and select the miles you wish to drive.  Then check the Warranty Service Provider box to get a listing of repair places.  Without this box checked the results will only include sellers of Lenovo products.  When you find a center, please call ahead as some listings aren't up-to-date.

I am a 5 year owner of an X220 that still runs strong. I wanted something bigger and lighter. I ordered 2015 model X1 (non-yoga)... it had a poor FHD display screen (fuzzy text, don't get FHD instead get the QHD) and had issues resuming from sleep. Lenovo sent me a replacement, had same issues, I sent both back. No issues with the return process, very easy and free because they were defective. Now, I ordered a 2016 X1 Yoga because I want to be awesome and show off my touch screen 360degree swivel to cute girls in my class. The QHD display is amazing, looks just like a macbook pro retina display. I close the lid or put the laptop to sleep mode, open the lid, it turns on with blank screen and beeps 4 beeps three times (Everytime I sleep it). I have to manually hold power button to restart laptop. Nice! Also, sometimes the display driver crashes and gives a prompt telling me that it crashed. Another thing is that sometimes when I put it in tablet mode and back to laptop mode, it thinks its still in tablet mode. Other than these issues I've noticed within one day of using it.. no idea what else is yet to come lol... the laptop is so so so awesome, for reals. That said, should I send it into Lenovo Depot for repair service or get a replacement? I've read bad reviews on the depot service on this forum. At the same time, I don't want Lenovo to send me another defective laptop as was my experience with my X1 (non-yoga).  What should I do?

After discovering how to install Windows 10 onto an Acer C720 Chromebook, I began looking for tutorials. I was given a link ( on how to do it. I followed it step by step (downloading the necessary files, putting the chromebook into developer mode, removing the Write-Protection screw, etc.) and ran into an issue.

While performing the final step of having to press the ESC button and choosing either Hard Disk or USB, my keyboard wouldn't allow me to choose anything. I turned it off and when I turned it back on, there was a black screen that said:

SeaBIOS (version -20151010_094223-coolstar)

Booting from Hard Disk...

It isn't responding to anything, only turning off and on when I press the power button (even after holding it down). I put the Write-Protection screw back in, placed it on the charger and even put Chrome Recovery Utilty onto a flash drive and nothing is still working.

Please let me know if you (or anyone out there) have had problems with your Yoga.  I am having major issues with my brand new Yoga 900, mainly around the display (weird window sizes on external monitor, display driver crashing even when no ext monitor is connected, etc). 
Also main concern right now is I cannot install a network printer (relatively new printer that works fine on my win7).  Printer installs but i get the message saying that it cannot be set as default.  And it will not print test page (or anything else).
Lenovo Support site is completely useless. Cannot detect my device.  Cannot detect my serial number.  Keeps asking me to download lenovo bridge bs which I've downloaded and installed and does not do anything.
Considering returning this laptop and getting surface but am dreading it because this will be more downtime at work...

I can't help you with the display issues, as I have no way to connect an extarnal display at present.
However, I had no trouble in connecting a network attached printer....

and making it my default print device...
Your problem is possibly related to Win 10, which appears to me to have a somewhat different method of discovering thngs on  network than earlier version of Windows....... what method are you using when attempting to connect your printer?

I've replaced the palmrest in my Yoga 2 13" Pro. It was necessery to take out the motherboard and other parts. After I did it and assembled all the parts back, one of the fans started to work not properely. It worked pretty noisy and unevely, not regulary (the second one worked fine). I dissasembled all the parts  again and assembled back, but without any change. So I bought another set of the fans (brand new). But after fans change, problem still exists. What can it be? Anybody can suggest where can I found the reason?

I have a Yoga 2 13" that was not used for a while because I purchased another Yoga and was using it. I tried to login to the older Yoga with a password I was fairly certain was correct and recieved the message that the password was incorrect. The password hint is "default". I reset my microsoft password using another computer and that did not work. The strange part is that I have tried a number of password guesses and most of them are incorrect, but a few guesses result in "Welcome" coming up on the screen along with the revolving circle. After about 5 seconds "incorrect password" is displayed. If I try that same guess again, I get "incorrect password" immediately.   I do not have a reset USB. Any ideas?

Hello there. I bought a used Lenovo Yoga 2 pro i7 on Craigslist. The laptop seems to work good but it just gets hot. I mainly just use chrome and the phone is almost always running and the bottom gets hot. I also own a t530 and the fan on the Yoga runs more than my t530 i5. Are there any solutions to cool it down? Also, I am thinking about putting thermal paste on the CPU. Is it worth it? Thanks!

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.
CPU is running very hot. Applications like tp fan control can tell you the temperature of the CPU and GPU temps above 80C under load are high, and above 90C suggest that the fan or heatsink could be clogged.
Ambient temperature should be taken into consideration. PC will shut down during increased loads on the CPU or GPU. This happens when the CPU or GPU overheats - typically above 95C. It?s a protective measure taken as to not fry your CPU.
Please do clean al the vents because hot air was circulating in the hood itself and results in thermothrottling
Please update BIOS.

my keyboard on my yoga 3 pro is not working. some letters are ok, but when i click on others, the computer lives is one life. if i press A the tool meny apears. and another key, looks it so i have to login again. 
is there anybody that have had the same problem- what can i do??
in tablet mode everything is ok..

 I searched for this problem and read everything I could find related to power problems, but nothing I can find refers to this problem: My Yoga 2 Pro will not power up. If I press the power button, the keyboard backlight flashes on and straight back off, about every 5 seconds. The power light flashes at the same time, but nothing else happens. I can't power down either. If the power supply is connected and I hold the power button in to force a hard power-down nothing happens. If the machine is running on battery and I hold the power button in, the flashing stops but as soon as I touch the power button or plug in the power supply, the flashing starts again. So, I can't power up and I can't power down. I can't find any emergency reset hole on my machine, the bottom of my machine does not look the same as the illustration in the other posts which show this. The screen remains black at all times, so I can't access the machine at all. I live outside the USA, but I bought the machine on a recent trip to Florida, so sending it back is problematic. Any suggestions which might help?

I was experiencing the same problem!Yesterday, I was just dealt with a shop to buy one. I did an unboxing the unit in front of the shop owner. After plug in the charger, I switched the power button on, then it happened!I cancelled the buying, and the shop owner couldn't say anything except sorry...They have only one unit in stock, and promised to get another one by tomorrow, but I don't want to get it.

I have a:Yoga 2 Pro (i7)Intel Wireless-N 7260Linksys E4200 Dual-band router I have no problems connecting at home, however, I cannot connect (at all) at the car dealrship I have my vehicle serviced at (iPad and cellphone connect just fine).I can connect at my office , however, it constantly drops and reconnects. It would be completely unreliable to take on the road.

Ok, so I see that the earlier Yoga had problems with Wifi, and I'm wondering if this is the same problem I have with my Yoga 2 Pro. If the wifi signal is at all weak, it just seems to drop out. This is a huge headache and might be grounds for returning the machine, which I have already fallen deeply in love with. Is there a fix? Is this just me or is this an issue across the board?

I have a base build of Windows 10 LTSB installed on my x1 yoga with an OLED screen. I updated the drivers via System Update and device manager is not saying any drivers are missing. Whenever I put my laptop on 100% brightness, the display turns off. Has anyone else have this happen to them?

I love my new Yoga 900 but I'm struggling with one issue that's driving me a bit bonkers. I use the Yoga as my home computer that needs to be connected to both an external display as well as a gigabit ethernet.  I purchased the Dell D1000 usb3 port replicator that has display ports, usb ports as well as a gigbit ethernet.  The displays work fine, and the ethernet and usb work fine whe the Yoga is awake, but my problem is waking the Yoga from sleep.  If my mouse is plugged into the Dell D1000 usb port, it will NOT wake the Yoga from sleep (neither will a usb keyboard or the wake-on-lan feature of the ethernet).  If I unplug the usb receiver for the mouse and plug it directly into the Yoga, it does awaken the PC from sleep. Problem: I really need the Wake-On-Lan feature and my understanding is that the Wireless LAN will not work for wake-on-lan.  is there any way to make the wake-on-lan (or any other wake feature) work through a usb adapter? I've made wake-on-lan work for every PC I've owned in the past several years, so I think I know how it works, but i can't seem to make it function for the Yoga, no matter what.  There is NO bios setting for wake-on-lan (or wake on anything) that I can find. Anybody made wake from usb port replicator work on a Yoga 900?  If so, please share what replicators/devices you used and how they were configured. Thanks ... I have a Yoga 14 (Windows 10 original install). Whenever I connect a second monitor, the display on the second monitor is not sharp at all and has a strange contrast. I am using a HDMI to VGA converter and wonder if that is part of the issue. I have tried several adjustments to the display of the second monitor (2 different monitors) with no appreciable improvement in display. I wonder if it is the translation between on screen being touch and the other not.

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.
After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:

Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
Battery intermittently charging

Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.
For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?

Hello,I've connected my Yoga 900 (13isk2) to a Samsung monitor by a VGA cable via a usb-c adapter (cableMatters Multiport), display is on, but I have some problems:In windows' Display Settings--> Advanced settings, the resolution drop down list is empty, to change the resolution I had to go to intel's options, and most importantly if I click "Adapter settings" it does nothing, ... Why is this a problem? I need to access the "Adapter settings" to hopefully set the monitor settings correctly, as everything looks so blurry (resolution 1280*768 with no scalling) and the colors do not look right.I checked the 2 drivers under Monitor in the device manager, clicked update driver and it told me that I have the latest (2006 driver). And the display driver I have just updated it from Lenovo's website last month. Anybody knows what can be causing this or how I can solve it ?

Hi, Got my Yoga on Sunday and have been delighted with it up to now with the exception of one thing - the touchscreen. Essentially it doesn't seem to like it when I drag on the screen with my finger, and quite often jumps wildly all over the place with its understanding of where I'm touching. I know that's not a terribly helpful description of the problem, so I drew this - it's my attempt to draw a spiraling pattern from centre outwards on  The odd thing is that the touchscreen works like a dream when I first turn the laptop on, and rebooting fixes the issue without fail - for all of 20 minutes to half an hour or so, when it starts with the problems again. The driver is up to date, as is Windows, I've calibrated it, I've made sure that the computer doesn't try to save power by turning it, or the "USB Input Devices" off (the latter being a suggestion I read from somebody), but none of this has helped. I'd really appreciate help on how to resolve this, as it is making an otherwise brilliant laptop unusable in 3 of the 4 positions! Thanks,Joe

HI, So i recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 500-14ISK (Modl 80R5003HUK) from a local retailer, and although i have no issues with the machine itself in terms of using it, i have issues with the machine running Windows 10, especiall after checking Lenovo's list of supported Windows 10 machines only to find my machine to not be on this list.( Main issues i have with the OS is the speed at which everything seems to run on the OS, as well as screen jitters when performing actions which should not cause screen jitter such as basic browsing or just moving the mouse across the screen. I have tried installin the most up to date versions of the drivers for the video card and the chipset. I would also like to note that i purchased the same Yoga from the same retailer before and had to return it the day after due to discovering the audio jack didnt recognise devices and was told it should be written off as a problem with the machine not running windows 10 well. Is there any solutions anyone can offer me in regards to fixing this? Also, is there any way a warranty could cover the return of the laptop to get one that is actually supported with the operating system it is running on. I would also like to note that the option to downgrade to an earlier build of windows (7 or 8) is no longer available. Thanks.

Hi, I have YOGA 500-15ISK. (i7-6500U / 8GB DDR3 / SSD 256GB / nVidia 940M). For the first time with my laptop, I had some performance issues after completion all win10 updates (mouse lags, slow restart time, varying system response and speed), so I decided to format all partitions (save some hdd space from these oversized recovery and driver partitions) and instal fresh win10 + with driver booster software I updated all drivers (win 10 don't update all drivers to lastest). And after that I don't have any performance issues (only my ears are bleeding because of cpu fan is very noisy - but it's all yogas issue).  Before visiting your retailer, you can try clean instal. (I think system reinstall can't affect warranty, but I'm not 100% sure.) In my country we can return goods up 14 days after sale, but after 14 days you must have proper reason to return your laptop, so it mostly depends on your retailer if will accept your performance issues as real deal.. maybe they will send it to lenovo service center and you will have to wait one month and after that they will return your old laptop with reinstalled system.. or maybe you have some real hw problem and they will repair it or replace it with new piece.. Tomas

For many months, I have been dealing with a frustrating issue when connecting my external Samsung SSD T1 (500 GB) to my Yoga 2 Pro laptop.  After two weeks dealing with Samsung tech support and getting a new unit, I am convinced the problem lies with the Yoga 2 and not the drive.  (The drive does not suffer the issues described below with either of my two desktop machines.) The external SSD is supposed to launch an "unlock" window upon connection, allowing you to enter a password to unlock the drive.  When I connect it to the Yoga 2 Pro, it acts as if it is going to work, but then the disk seems to "hang" and stop communicating with the laptop.  I can see the disk in File Explorer, and even open the drive folder to see the executable inside that needs to run.  But when I double-click the unlock program, it hangs.  The entire drive becomes unresponsive.  I see this behavior regardless of (A) the drive is connected before the laptop is powered on; or (B) when I let the laptop fully boot and then connect the drive afterward.  Either way, same problem. With me so far?  So here's the piece I find bizarre.  I have found that I can resolve the issue by doing a hard reset to the laptop.  Holding in the power button for ten seconds to force a power-down of the laptop.  If I do that and then restart the laptop, everything comes back up fine and the drive works exactly as it is supposed to.  But the next tim... I got my Yoga 260 few days back, and there are couple flaws in the build quality bothering me. 1. There is a little bulge by the "yoga 260" logo on the screen casing above the hinge. It's unnoticeable by eye unless you look for it.2. Te rubber thing around the screen doesn't seem to be glued(?) on all that well. It's not really a problem, but it's bothering me. Should I take the laptop to warranty repair.

Hi   My Wifi conneciton keeps dropping, it's not related to the router, as I have other computers and devices connect, also it happend with diferent wifi conections and routers. The connection just drops and then they cannot detect the any network for a very long time. I've restarted my computer to try and solve this but this doesn't always solve the immediate problem, it happends randomly, sometimes 3 to 4 time in a hour, then ok for a couple of hours.  I've realized also that sometimes when I'm working, even that on the task bar it doest show, when I press the notification setting on the taskbar I get that the flight mode is on, with bluetooht and wifi even though it's not?? I have lenovo solution center and lenovo companion intallled and apparentely all the lastest drivers. So is there a solution for this, or is my computer just fautly and needs to be returned?? Thank you for your help

The mouse pad sometimes does not work and requires a restart for it to start working again.Plugging in the charger reduces the laptops performance drastically for some reason. Searched online to only find solutions for different types of Lenovo laptops that do not seem to work for this one.Some texts appear blurry/lower quality than they should be. Possibly due to the laptops display settings being set at 150% but reducing it makes everything way too small.Any ideas how to fix these problems? Spent a lot of money for this laptop and cant return it now so I'm very disappointed so far.

Hi there. I recently purchased a Yoga 300 and a Yoga 500, and the laptops are pretty great - everything works pretty well apart from the ALPS touchpad, which frankly, is the worst touchpad I've ever used on a laptop... there's about a 50% chance that any click or movement you input into the thing is not registered... The ALPS is a mistake, why not stick with a symantec pad? just visiting the ALPS site should set off alarm bells. Broken graphics, garbled english and a disclaimer that they refuse to supply end users with drivers - and that's the entirety of the site. Honestly, the trackpad on the yoga cripples the device so badly, I'm debating just returning it, and shelling out for a surface or something. --- What bothers me most is that the lenovo driver supplied with the yoga laptops has multi-touch scrolling, but the scroll direction is reversed to literally every other device on the market. The settings menu for the thing has an option to reverse the scroll direction for horizontal scrolling, but not for vertical scrolling. What gives? To include the feature, but hard-force it to run backwards, and not even offer the option to reverse it? What kind of person does that? Does anyone have an ALPS driver that would let me set the scrolling direction to the sane direction? It's driving me nuts, and I've spent three days looking for a driver that will work and do what lenovo should have done to start with.

Been having the problem for a while now and its maybe getting slowly worse? Whenever i start up my computer (from sleep, I have screen problems for about 10-20 minutes (depending on how long it was off for), then it goes away and I have no problems for the rest of the time i am using it. Until it turn it off, then the whole thing starts over again. Problems are as follows:-Pink or green tinted screen on start-up-ghost images (in pink or green)-fades to black/white/grey in a splotchy way that makes me think its a screen issue.-suddenly flashes back to pink/green, then starts fading back to black again. (Notes: I have tried a clean update of my graphics driver a few times. Bios is up to date and memtest freezes when i try it so I'm worried to attempt updating bios. I live in another country in a rural area and have no access to an hdmi cord to test the screen).  memory problem? screen problem? graphics card problem? driver problem? Before buying Yoga 700 I didn't realised that it could be such a problem which couldn't be officialy solved. As for many other people, I get mathematical operations failure on Solution Center for my Graphics hardware. People are writting about it in forums for more than a year and the solution is to ignore it: Guys, it can't be igored, because it allways runs slow and it can't handle even a browser with Facebook. 'Application has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware' and black view of the application. And what about blue screens 'Video TDR failure'. I have to mention that first device really scared me so I changed it to a new one. And guess what, it's absolutely the same! So it can't be a hardware problem. What is more, suggested offical driver for this computer for Graphics doesn't even fit the system requirements (although Lenovo declaire that it does) and I had to search for a beta version, which is actually the best from the worse, because the default one is always causing blue screens and this ( does it at least rarely. So maybe anyone can provide a REAL solution? P.S. I am not sure if I am living in a middle of Europe, or in a middle of jungle, because Lenovo support chat is not available, call from support as well, no emails or nothing. That's kind of strange

Hey there, I am actually having a kinda odd problem. I am french-swiss and I use a french-swiss keyboard. I bought my Y900 with one. Now I just don´t find out how to zoom in with the "strg" + "+" Funcition. Pls see the attached picture of my keyboard.Obviously I press ?"strg" + "shift" + "1/+". But what happens then? Hi everyone.I hope someone can help me, because i cant find a solution to my problem and its really frustrating. I can't fully charge my laptop, in the beginning it would only charge to 85%, but now it barely charges above 45%(and its declining further, so in some time I cant use the laptop without AC-Adapter and thats a big problem for me).When the battery reaches its "full" potential, it displays: "Plugged in, not charging" I know its a problem with lenovos maximum battery life settings, but theres no option available in the Lenovo settings to go for a full charged battery. Am currently on BIOS 1.18, Windows 10(did a factory reset), updated drivers but nothing seems to work. Hope somebody can help me with my problem.

Have you tried resetting the battery? Power off the laptop. Underneath the laptop, located in the middle is a small pin hole. Using a straightened paper clip or sim card remover pin, press the pin hole. Power on the laptop and check again. As the battery is integrated, there is no physical way to take it out and put it back in. The pin hole (reset) mirrors this process.

I've had my yoga for almost two years now and recently I've been having two issues: 1. The WiFi adapter will sometimes go out and it won't even show up on the device manager. The only "fix" I've found so far is to shut down and turn the computer back on (usually at least a couple of times) until the adapter starts showing up again. I've gone to the bios to check to see if it's showing up when I run the motherboard test and sometimes the PCI slot that it occupies doesn't even show up. I've been having to use a small USB WiFi adapter when the onboard adapter feels like being particularly uncooperative on certain days. 2. At random times (every few hours or so) when the laptop is just sitting on my desk, I will get an auto rotate notification and the screen will change its orientation, go into tablet mode, and disable the mouse and keyboard. Usually the screen will go back to normal after a few seconds, but the keyboard and mouse will still be disabled and the only way to get them both activated again (as far as I know) is to shut down the laptop and then turn it back on. My guess is that these two problems might be related. The reason why I think so is because I had similar issues a year ago with the WiFi adapter frequently not showing up on the device manager. I had the laptop sent in and it turned out to be an issue with the motherboard, which had to be replaced. Hello Lenovo community! I had a Lenovo G50-70 earlier, and after about 12 months of not-rough usage, its hinge started having problems, and I had to press it on the left side to prevent a loud cracking noise (which made my heart burn btw). After searching this issue, I noticed that there were many people with the same problem on Lenovo forums. When I took it to a local repair shop, the repair guy told me it was very frequent with "cheap quality Chinese" Lenovo laptops. Somehow I managed to sell it to someone for a sub-par price, and don't know what got me, but here I am, having another Lenovo laptop. This time a Yoga 500 series. Now I am being a lot more cautious while opening and closing the lid of the laptop (doing so by opening the lid from the middle and keeping the bottom half pressed). Still, similar complaints on other Lenovo Yoga laptops are scaring me to hell. Is there somehow I could at least delay this issue so that the hinge lasts as long as possible? Thanks.

I bought the Yoga 500 a week ago however immediately after starting it I have been faced with problems. At first i thought its normal since it is a brand new laptop and it takes time till it adjusts but that didn`t happen. The problems are as follows: 1) The mouse coursor  and touchpad keeps on blocking regularly. I tried it also with an external mouse and I faced the same problems. 2) WIFI:  a) it keeps loosing its signal continually             b) It dissconect from the wifi almost every 30 minutes              c) Whenever i want to reconnect to the wifi it shows there are no connections available eventhough my phone and my girlfriends laptop is already connected ( and there are over 5 other wifi-s available from my neighbors)             d) Every single time I have to use the troubleshooter which says "problem with wireless adapter or acces point". Hello, I have a Lenovo Yoga 3-1470 64-bit, which was originally windows 8. After updating to windows 10, the audio (Conexant HD Audio) starts to have some problems, such as the need to keep restarting my laptop to get the audio back. Recently it has gotten worse, hence I decided to uninstall the Conexant HD Audio driver from my device manager, with the hope that I can reinstall the updated windows 10 Conexant HD Audio driver. But after uninstalling, I found out that I cannot reinstall it back. The device driver installation wizard will only install for 2 - 3%, then a messagebox ERROR will appear stating that "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver." I have tried installing windows 8 and 10 versions of the Conexant HD Audio Drivers, but they do not work. Currently, my audio isn't working anymore. Can anyone help me, Thank you very much.

I am using Windows 10 Home, version 1607. For some reason the system beeps whenever I scroll up or down with two fingers on the touchpad. Also, when I tap two fingers to bring up a pop-up menu, nothing happens. I have uninstalled the Elan touchpad driver and reinstalled it by downloading it from the Lenovo website, but I still have both problems. The Elan app is set to enable a pop-up on two finger tap but it is not working.

Hello All, I have an issue with my YOGA 700 laptop when logged in multiple accounts simultaneously. Whenever an account is left logged on and the user is switched as opposed to logging off, the cpu usage ramps up very high with several RUNDLL32 processes being the culprit. I have checked the RUNDLL32 processes with Process Explorer and the command line are as follows:C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe C:\ProgramData\LenovoTransition\Server\x64\EnableAutoRotation.dll,RunCustomMonitor The directory is as follows: C:\ProgramData\LenovoTransition\Server\x64\ The only solution I have found is restarting the laptop. The problems comes back when again more than one user is logged in. Also, the rundll32 processes only run high cpu on one account at a time and there doesn't seem to be a preference for a specific account, all of them are plagued one at a time with the problem. Disabling the Yoga Mode Control service is a fix but that breaks the mode control which is essential in this laptop. I have tried installing all the available software on the Software page foor the YOGA 700. The rundll32 processes drain the battery very fast and I can't always log off other users when they have apps open!  I have posted a screenshot of process explorer showing 2 rundll32.exe processes using 25% cpu usage each. Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I've been unable to access my custom build computer since around 5:00 yesterday. I chose to restart my computer at around that time just because it was slowing up a little and I usually do that to help, I had not installed any updates or new programs since 2 days ago when there had been a few windows updates.

Upon returning to my computer I noticed that it had been unable to startup and had gone straight into system repair with it being 'unable to repair this computer automatically.' I rebooted several times and noticed that it was not a visible BSOD but as soon as the 'starting windows' icon began to appear it went straight into startup repair. I tried to boot into safe mode, tried to load previous good configuration and all of the other advanced recovery options (including system restore/image and many command prompts).

This is what it shows after being unable to repair automatically:

I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

You might be better off doing a clean install. You won't need to enter the key as its already been associated with your computer.

Backup any files you want to keep first.

I am not certain but it may take the install files from the recovery partition (perhaps someone can confirm this), I know this worked with a recent HP job I did.

I have just installed a new motherboard and then when I got XP up and running again, after a Repair, I found that it wouldn't accept any updates from Windows. I went on to Microsoft site and found a fix for that and managed to get it working and updates now happen. However, certain strange things have happened:
a) The REMOVE button from the Add/Remove program has vanished. When I go into the registry, even although the programs show up in the Add/Remove window, they are nowhere to be seen in the registry so can't change anything there!
b) Certain programs have blank icons both as shortcuts and in Program Files. Microsoft Office 2007 for example has blank icons for the programs and also blank icons for the files in the folders. It all still works and when I run Diagnose in the Office program it states nothing is wrong. Although this is only one of about 10 programs that are affected in this way. I have tried to install over them, as I can't uninstall them, but am not allowed to - get error messages - each different for different programs.
c) Updates are not being accepted for Office 2007 or any of these programs that have the blank icons.

This is starting to do my head in. I have Googled the error messages. I have downloaded fixes, etc but nothing seems to work.
I really don't want to have to do a complete reformat and re-instal if at all possible and I hope someone may have an idea or solution that I can try

By defintion, a repair install of XP will not delete your files but will require you to reinstall all of your programs.

That said, you could try running the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove any registry traces belonging to the programs affected. Run the utility and see if you can then reinstall your applications.

My computer has always made this loud popping/clicking noise every so often...sometimes my system would lock up right after, sometimes nothing would happen at all. They were usually hours apart.

Well, last night as I'm goin gto bed, I notice this thing is making those popping/clicking noises(I can't tell if it's the hard drive doing an access sweep or what) 4 or 5 times in succession, 10 or 15 times a minute in some instances.

I turned on my monitor this morning, and there was a black screen stating Windows could not start up because my Windows/System32/System file was either missing or corrupted, and to do a repair with my XP cd(I had not rebooted my computer the night before...Windows had been left running).

So I plug in my CD, and it loads up all the stuff on the first blue screen, then goes into "Starting Windows"(Where the installation and repair is to take place), and a few seconds later, I get another blue screen stating that a problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer. Under the reason, it says SESSION3_INITILIZATION_FAILED. So I reboot, and it starts over again...still trying to get it to take.

I had to repair an XP SP2 installation. After files were copied and I entered my product key, the repair continmued and then I got an error message "d:\nt\com1x\src\complusetup\csetuputil.cpp (error 3406). The specified procedure could not be found. Failed to load the library c:\windows\system32\catsrv.dll." Later in the process I got four error messages saying that the following files could not be found or had been corrupted: directdb.dll, inetcomm.dll, msoe.dll and wab32.dll.

Windows would start but I was unable to run Internet Explorer. I repeated the repair process and had the same problem recur. Any one have any suggestions?

So I started up my computer a few days ago to find it telling me I had a missing or corrupt file in windows\system32\config\system.
Now when I bought my computer I was sold the XP home license, and it just came with my computer, and have never needed the setup CD.
So I went to the place I bought it, told them what happened they burned me a copy.
So I boot off the cd, and enter the setup repair, it asks me for a password, I have never had one, default past with enter and continue on to try and fix it.

Now this is where it gets interesting, I restarted to see if I had fixed the problem, and when it restarted my computer seemed to begin to load windows, when my computer suffered a LSASS.exe error, and restarts.
So it eventually allows me to go back to the setup repair, but this time when it asks for a password, it doesn't allow me to default past by hitting enter. It tells me I have entered an incorrect admin password and after 3 tries, it says I have failed 3 times and then restarts.

So I Googled the problem, and found it might have something to do with Sysrep(which im not familiar with)
I have some important files on the computer I need rescued.
Basically what I am wondering is if there is a way to bypass this new password problem, or any way I could extract certain files from my hard drive without repairing windows.

I am desperate, and thank you in advance for your support.

Ok So I'm having a bit of a problem and to warn you I know very little about computers.

I've needed to do a repair so I've entered the bios and altered the settings to boot from a cd. It's then got to the screen about the windows set up and pressed enter not repair and then it goes to a blue screen saying windows xp home edition setup and freezes the numbers on the bottom don't change either. Any ideas what to do?

hi jen, how old is the pc that you are installing windows. are you using the recovery cd or any other cd. check that the cd is clean and it doesn't have any scrayches or dirt, this usually causes the problem. alternatively you can put the cd onto another computer and get the files and burn an image iso file.
isit possible that you can get a cd from another friend and use that and see if you still get the sam problem.

are there any errors you are getting, is that why you are reinstalling windows. try this
when you enter the setup press enter
then press r and do a repair install and this will not cause you to lose any work either.

I've had a Yoga 2 Pro for two and a half years. I recently overheated it. I replaced it with a Yoga 900. After six days the screen cracked (working with Best Buy now to get an exchange but hopes are slim...). In the likely event that BB does not cooperate, is it possible to take the screen out of my Yoga 2 Pro and use it to replace the screen in the Yoga 900? Thanks for any insights.

So three weeks ago, I was working on my Yoga 3 14" and popped to get a drink, I came back and the screen was blank, I assumed it had gone to sleep, so hit a key to wake it up. Nothing! The laptop was plugged in, so I know it hadn't run out of charge.After sheer panic, I contacted Lenovo, who told me that my warranty was out by a month, and that I could send it to them to diagnose, and they would tell me how much to fix, then it was up to me if they did or not.One I wouldn't be happy about not having my laptop for a couple of weeks minimum, but also it had all my private information on.I turned to good old google, and stumbled across this forum, and somebody with the same problem.Their solution was to unscrew the back case of the laptop (as mentioned above, my warranty was already out), remove the battery cable, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and reconnect the battery cable.I did this, and low and behold it worked. Fantastic!Only for it to happen twice more that week, and approx twice a week since. Then yesterday my brother contacts me saying his laptop has died, just won't turn on. The MTM 59418309 is for a Yoga 2 Pro.  In support, it and my serial number are showing Yoga 2 13. The drivers for the Yoga 2 13 (like BIOS) are returned...  Is this a problem?  Should I be using the Yoga 2 Pro BIOS or the Yoga 2 13 BIOS which is coming up. The sticker on the bottom says Yoga 2 Pro.Model 20266MTM 59418309

Hello, we got 2x Try-and-Buy Lenovo Yoga Tablet Laptops (an X1 Yoga and a Yoga 260) to evaluate their suitability for our company, since we intend to upgrade several of our employees laptops. However, ever since we got the devices we noticed on both of them frequent issues with the display and waking from sleep. Very often the laptops won't wake up properly with the screen staying black. In those cases the display-backlight seems to turn on, and I assume the system is running somehow in the background. Putting the computer to sleep again (e.g. by closing the lid) makes the computer wake up properly on the second attempt. Different error in the same category is when a video is running and the laptop is connected to AC - plugging out the AC cord made the screen go black while the media content's sound kept playing. All drivers were updated to the newest version via Lenovo System Update 5.07.0029. Any ideas? I also tried to open a support ticket, but Lenovo wanted to send and install a new display (!). Apparently, that seems like a driver/software issue?! Best regards

I was recently having a lot of spyware/virus/trojan problems, and went through [email protected]#$ to get rid of them, or at least get control of my PC again. I had the Antispyware Soft trojan/download and others. I downloaded a few antispywares that I knew were legitimate, Malwarebytes/Spybot S&D/AdAware, and they got rid of more than I even knew I had.

My PC seemed to be doing fine again, so I went back to doing normal stuff. My brother was playing a game and the PC completely locked up. Now this has happened before, and after a cold restart it would go back to Windows and everything was fine. This time it went to a blank black screen, and stayed there. I tried restarting a few times, and couldn't get it past that screen. After a while I decided to try a repair through the HP System Recovery Console.

I did that last night, and now I can't get to any of the email websites I use(gmail/hotmail/yahoo), I can't install some programs(Apple Safari), I can't use, I can't log quite a few other sites, can't see the images on a bunch of sites, and I can't open some of my programs. I was wondering if its because i'm now back at Service Pack 1, when I was on the latest updates. I've tried using "sfc /scannow" and it finishes and then closes without any message, so I assume the protected files are fine?

Startup repair is unhappily not infallible. When it stops, there is a command 'Advanced options'. Click on this and another screen will open which will list, among other things, 'Restore Windows to an earlier date ?'. Click on this and you will be offered a restore point. Select this and accept the options you are offered and let it work away. Once it has finished it will either start normally or re-boot itself or ask you to do a re-boot. Do so, and it should start normally.
If this doesn't work, let it cycle round through 'Repair' again and repeat the above process, EXCEPT when you get to the 'Restore Windows ?' screen, click on the button 'See other restore points' and choose an earlier one.
If this doesn't work, or there are no restore points, post back.

I'm trying to run a repair on windows xp, using the installation disk. I get to the point where I am suppose to choose the operation system that I want to repair but it is not there. It gives me the correct drive but there is no indication of the operating system. Since it is not there I can not choose "r" to repair. My only option is to install of quit. I'm guessing something happened when I originally installed xp. Is there anything I can do? Thanks! Duane

Hi, I have received my HP Envy 15-afo67sa back from HP Repair during which they replaced the HDD as there were " Bad Sector Errors " which they said was causing the " Beep " I was getting. After a couple of days the " Beep " returned and I have run HP's Extensive Test and this showed no errors but that was the same before I sent it to HP.  Can someone please suggest a Free System Diagnostic piece of software that will show how my laptop is working so I can post the result to see if anyone can see a problem. Regards,                      Nike

Tap F2 as you power up to get into UEFI diagnostics and it has a series of hardware tests you can run. There is no better diagnostic program and if it passes all of those tests there is no hardware error. With a post beep we usually think bad memory or video card, not hard drive so I kind of wonder what the HP techs were thinking but they had it in their hands and I do not.

my friends just gave me an emachine......when i turn on my computer i get all the way to the windows xp logon screen when i go to log on the computer i tried to go to safe mode, and it boots up fine in safe mode. then i turn to the windows repair console. when it tells me to put in the admin password it tells me it is wrong when i know it is right cuz i just changed the admin password in safe mode.......i also try removing the admin password in safe mode and it still says invaild password...

Did you actually change the admin password, or just an admin user password?

Alright guys, I'm back with yet another problem. Just yesterday, I purchased a laptop with Windows 7, i7 processor, overall a pretty good notebook. Now today, while using my laptop, it wouldn't startup properly, meaning it would go all the the way to home screen, where I'd try to open my browser and then it would freeze. I restarted my computer several times with no success, the same problem kept occurring. Suddenly, I got a Startup Repair window, which was supposed to solve the problems. It found the problem, recommended that I restart (restarting would solve, if not, would return to repair window after restart). I restarted only to be brought back to the same window and now, the problem cannot be fixed by my computer automatically and when I click Finish, it would shut down. It seems as if there is no way out. Any ideas? (greatly appreciated, of course)

Three different times I have attempted to repair (install over WinXP). Each time it would go part way and stop, screen goes black, and it reboots. Each time it goes back to the same place, and starts over. It seems to load some things. I think it would go on forever if I did not turn off the power. Going into Safe Mode does not work. I heard from my daughter today, and her computer is doing the same thing. I have my Xp on a separate partition, and can blow it away and, reload it. My daughter does not. Can anyone tell me what she can do to fix this problem.

Hey all once AGAIN. I have to make this brief as I'm going to work shortly.

My computer will not boot properly and it appears to be a similar issue to another time about a half year back when the system32 drive somehow corrupted on me.

Long story short, I tried to do a repair install (booted from CD, did NOT go to repair console thing, I selected the other option.)

After, agreeing to the licence agreement thingy, I should be able to select what windows I want to repair, right?!

Well, no luck. the thing comes up with these options in the grey box (see below)that I can either delete or install in a new partition (which is what i DONT want to do)

- : Patition1 (some number in megabytes)
C: Partition2 (some number in megabytes)
F:Partion3 (some number in megabytes)
Unpartitioned Space (some number in megabytes)

Im running chkdsk /r in the repair console now but I need a back up plan. I've done a repair install before its just how do I make it recognize that windows is installed?

My computer has not been working recently. Whenever it starts up, a blue screen flashes and you are given the options to start in safe mode, choose the last good configuration, or start windows normally. However, none of these work, and the computer restarts and goes back to the options.

To fix this, I have attempted a repair install, but when I push enter, it says that the EULA cannot be found and so the setup cannot continue.

Is there any way to fix this without having to delete everything on the hard drive? Can this be fixed using the recovery console? and if so, how? Help would be much appreciated.

My computer will not boot into windows. It's because I tried to install SP2 (my windows is at SP1) and the install failed. While was uninstalling itself it kinda froze (it was responding but the program wasn't doing anything) and then my comp restarted itself. When it went to boot up windows again i would get an error and the comp would just restart itself. So I boot to my xp cd and try and do a repair install. It starts ok but in the install screen (the screen where it tells you all the new features of XP and how much time left) it gets to 12 minutes left and then stops. I figured it was just that it was taking a while longer and left it alone, but after 3 hours it was still in the same spot. I restarted the repair install twice more and the same problem occurs. What do you think I should do?

You should backup all your data, and do a clean install, i.e. delete partitions, create partitions, and format from scratch.. Install XP, then all the drivers, then go to Windows Update and install SP2 + everything else.
You could backup data by placing your hard drive into another PC, or using Linux CD, or buy a new hard drive all together and install windows onto it, leaving your old hard drive intact so you could later backup your files.

I recently ran the xp repair option from my install disk, repaired system seemingly working ok after a few adjustments but a a major problem is I can't install any ms updates, including installing the 3.1 or 4.5 installer. I either get the 80070005 error, or a popup message 'access is denied'
There are a number of posts recommending using secedit to restore defaults. I have a number of accts and file permissions that would be a real pain to have to redo, if I restore to original defaults.

Is secedit to defaults the only solution after a repair?

Is there no way to run secedit to only repair the registry permissions. this is where the problem seems to be. I checked that admins do have full control for registry permissions and I run as an admin user

This is likely to be a Security programme ie an Anti-Virus or Firewall or a change you have made to permissions that have effected this. Disable all anti-virus and firewall by inserting Updates as an allowed website.
Go to Control Panel, Administrative Functions Services and check Automatic Updates as per this screenshot - attached.
Then if still no success try this
Run it on the appropriate FIXIT and see if it helps.

If that does not work use the baseline scanner and try the updates direct.
This will list your updates and provide you with the direct download, rather than the updates listed together.

so after having numerous problems relating to everything in my sytem i attempted to do a repair install. i got the following error...
The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.

Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing.

For these items, make the following changes:
Uninstall these programs. Open Control Panel and search for "uninstall a program".

So, as i posted a reply and was awaiting a response from the "repair instal" thread, i tried to run sfc.exe. After 33% completion it gave me an error saying that it could not finish.

I was having alot of problems with my computer so i decided to run a chek disk on it, this seemed to solve the problem however i then ran a windows repair just to be on the safe side..... Unfortunatly i used the Windows Home Edition UPGRADE disk by mistake and do no have the product key, so i tried restarting the repair using a Windows Home Edition disk. However i seem to be unable to complete the installation for various reasons to do with copying over the files.

I used ERD commander to access my computer and my HDD is intact still and all information is viewable.

The problem is when ever i try to turn my computer on it restarts the Repair and fails to copy the files once again.
Any ideas?

I had posted this following another users repair question but it was suggested to me to start a separate thread. Although SP1 has caused multiple problems, most noticibally an extreme slow down, my most annoying problem now is the intermitent interruption of the network card.

I have had nothing but problems ever since I installed the SP1 to my Win XP Home version. I have an eMachine that XP came preinstalled. Ever since I installed SP1, my computer boots and runs very slow, is susceptible to blue screens and other hangups. Now my network card keeps coming and going as to whether I am online with my cable internet. I replaced the network card thinking it was going bad but the problem continues. I assigned a permanent IP address so it wouldn't lose the connection, still no help. I removed and reinstalled the drivers, still no help.

I hesitate to "repair" XP as I have some irreplaceable programs and data that will be difficult to back up (and it is tax time!). I read the link: Setup:

and it seems I can "repair" XP without harming any of my other programs and data but this link refers to the Professional version of XP and I have the Home version. Are the steps the same?

Is there anything else anyone might recommend to fix my problems?

SP1 did not cause the same problems on another eMachine that I am using here, but it has only a few basic programs on it so there is a lot less chance for conflicts.

when i press 'r' the com goes into some dos mode: it asks me what installation i want. 1stly, what does this exactly mean? when i enter 1, im supposed to enter something else, what do i enter??
ive tried my password, product just keeps telling me ive entered something invalid....what do i do??
The original problem is i cant even access my desktop.
I don't remember everything specifically but when i start up, the com tells me 'windows xp has a problem starting maybe due to recently installed software'
and it gives me options: to proceed in safe mode; to proceed from the last place windows was functional etc.
whatever i enter the com reads C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CONFIG (or something similiar) is damaged or missing.

I need some help, I went to start up my computer this morning and when it booted up it asked me to start it normally or to do the startup repair, I chose to start it up normally but it still took me to the startup repair. It said it might take over an hour to complete so I left and when I came back an hour later it was still going, that was 4 hours ago, and it is still running right now. I tried restarting the computer again and it took me right back to it and has had the same screen up since. I don't know what to do, it is very frustrating because I just got this computer not even two months ago. Please can someone help me??

I was on my laptop 5 days ago when it crashed and brought me to Startup Repair. It had happened twice in the past and the problem had solved itself with the program. But this time, i tried 63 times and nothing happened. I tried everything (I think). I pressed F8 to start my computer another way but it brings me back at the same place. Settings don't change anything, Safe Mode doesn't launch and trying to run the computer with another Driver doesn't work. I also tried to restore my computer to a couple of days without success. Another thing I tried was to start the computer normaly but it always comes back to where I started (Startup Repair). I was so tired of working on it I went on my other computer (which is old and slow) to find answers on the internet. I tried running my operating system disk(Windows 7) and tried to launch the installer but it doesn't launch. School started two days ago and I already need my computer. Help would be greatly appreciated. MrDub

P.S: I didn't download anything in the past 2-3 weeks and I scan everything I download. I'm running a Dell Inspiron 17, 250G Memory, 4G RAM, Intel Graphic card with Windows 7 64bit. Okay, so I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with windows 7 on it. Im trying to factory reset my computer without needing a windows 7 disc. Apparently, I have accidentally deleted some important boot files from drive C (my XP installation is on another drive) and when I rebooted a few days later, the system came up with "NTLDR missing file". After reading about this failure online (and in this forum as well), I have decided to try recovering the system with the installation disk, using repair. The system did come up after the repair (although it took very long time), but I find several things working in a weird way. For example, IE7 is not working properly (no tabs...), but the most critical issue is that most operations I am trying todo (open Outlook, open a folder, run IE), cause a small window to pop up: "Window Installer - preparing to install" (??) it is stuck in this state forever and only after a VERY long time the application starts. Everything is very slow. I have no idea what it is trying to install and in most cases the only way to get rid of it is killing it from Windows Task Manager, which also kills the app that I was trying to run.

I tried rebooting, with no help and I am at loss how to proceed. Should I try repairing the system again? Could it be caused by a virus?

If anyone has any experience with such a phenomenon or can suggest a strategy to repair it, I would be very happy to hear about it.

I had to replace the MB/Ram and cpu on my PC. I did a repair install but after the install, sound won't work, USB2 doesn't work and it won't write DVDs anymore.

The original parts where,
Asus K8V-SE Deluxe S754 - Motherboard
AMD (Newcastle) Athlon 64bit 3000+
2gb DDR PC3200/400MHz

Replaced with,
ECS geforce 6100PM M2
4 gb ddr2 800
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 5000+

The repair install seemed to go well but most of the drivers on the ECS disk didn't work, I tried downloading the latest drivers but they didn't work either, I can't be sure I installed them in the correct order though the ECS manual and website wasn't very helpful.

At the time I desperately needed a working computer so put these issue on the long finger.

The sound and DVD writing are the most important things.

Repair installs with a change in Motherboards can be problematical . .

You can try uninstalling all the current drivers in Device Manager, then install the ECS drivers.

Install the Chipset driver first, then the others in any order.

If you have your installation discs for XP and the other applications, a clean install will give you the most stable system

At my advanced age I seem to be getting some odd happenings. However, all seems well again, as fit as I’m likely to just now.
I suffered a BSOD catastrophe a few weeks back and tried all sorts to get it sorted. Then I had the above bad spot of illness and just back in the saddle. Managed to work something out and ended up with the following. Not really an understandable solution – to me that is- which some of you may be able to help with.

This is the progress that has been made.
I have installed Vista Home Prem on a 160 Gb SATA drive successfully and the PC has now picked up the other 2 SATA HD s, a Western Digital and a Seagate, both 500 Gb and I can see the files on all three even tho’ can’t open most of them.
My main mystery is that the ‘My computer’ throws up the following reading;
(Disk names are the original ones and will be changed.)
C: Music and images, NTFS ,Capacity 149.01 Gb, status, System.
D; Primary disk SATA, NTFS ,Cap. 229.50 Gb, Status, Active. Should be 500Gb
E; Other office apps, NTFS, Cap 14.65 Gb, Status, None.
F: Backups, NTFS, Cap 223.69 Gb, Status, None. Should be 500Gb
Now, this shows me with four HD s. There are only three!
The capacities don’t match the actual sizes of the HD .
I installed Vista because once all is well I shall then upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium (which is what I was running before the crash) I stupidly bought Vista about 6 months before Win. 7 came out properly!
