Thinkpad X1 Yoga Fan Constantly Running

Q: Thinkpad X1 Yoga Fan Constantly Running

Hello,I received my new ThinkPad X1 Yoga yesterday and the fan is constantly on and the bottom of the laptop is warm. Being a brand new laptop I am surprised at the amount of noise and can't understand why it is constantly going? So far I am very concerned and wondering if I should return it? Anyone else have any similiar issues and if so, any way to fix it? Thank-you in advance, Christa

A: Thinkpad X1 Yoga Fan Constantly Running

make sure Turbo is not enabled on cpu since when thats enabled it will make cpu work around 100% - 120% so then fan is constantly on even at idle so yeah if you disable turbo it should make fan more silent.

I just got my Yoga X1 running Win 7.  It was noticeably hot (particularly compared to the Thinkpad Carbon 4th Gen), so I used CPU HWMonitor, where it shows core temps reaching as high as 71C.  This is while I was doing nothing more than surfing the net.  Is this something to worry about?  Results  Thanks for any advice.

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

A:Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

A:Thinkpad yoga 460 - Thinkpad Pen Pro not charging ...

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga from Best Buy and upon opening, found that the pen pro included does not work. I'm on the most updated version of all the drivers, and the touch screen and multitouch with my hands still work. After taking an multimeter to measure the voltage of the pen, I found that the pen just wasn't charging. I'm a bit hesitant to check the voltage of the charging silo itself but my suspicion is that the pen is dead. Could this be a software problem? Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Should I return to pen and the laptop to bestbuy or just the pen? Or should this issue be brought to Lenovo instead?

A:Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Best Buy) - Thinkpad Pro Pen do...

I don't have a 460, but I do have a 260, which is a smaller, but VERY similar machine.  I had the same problem and I believe it is not the pen.  Before you do anything, you need to unplug the machine and disable the internal battery.  You do that by going into the BIOS and under the config tab, look under power.  There will be an option to disable the battery.  When this is selected, the machine will turn off.  The battery is re-enabled the next time you plug it in.  IF THE BATTERY IS NOT DISCONNECTED, YOU WILL CREATE A SHORT AND BLOW A IRREPLACEABLE FUSE ON THE MOTHERBOARD.  Remove the pen and look inside, where you will see 2 contacts.  My guess is that one or both got pushed back into the housing during manufacturing process.  You can take something fine and sharp like a needle and gently free them so they will pop back out.  Once I popped mine out, the pen charged very quickly and I never had another problem with it.

Hello all I was wondering if anyone knew if the pen that comes with the yoga 460 has a set of changeable tips that you can buy separately? I bought mine through best buy but I noticed that the tip of the pen screws off and allows the stylus tip to be removed. I can't seem to find anywhere that sells different tips for that pen tho. Thanks!

My hinges are quiet  and smooth, but they are tight and sturdy so that the screen is stable in any orientation.  I'm sorry, but without hearing or feeling yourem there is no way for me to say if yours are "normal", but it is common for a tight hinge to make a little noise when it begins a motion.

Hi, I have 3 problems with my Yoga 460: 1. (this should be easy):Where do I get a backup image for my system from? I did not find any links on the support page. 2. I tried to download the bios update to version 1.18 from the website. If I click on the windows installer file, there is always the message "file not found". If I try to download the iso file (which is indeed working), I receive an error message about wrong format when trying to mount it to a usb drive. 3. This is the most important issue for me at the moment:As soon as I try to update my system with Lenovo Companion software, I always get the message that I would have to upgrade my Lenovo System Interface Driver. If I hit ok to install this app, I get a download link. I tried installing it several times. After having restarted the system, the same error appears again (with the same download link).  I would really appreciate if anyone of you could help me on these topics! Greetings from Germany, Simon

Hi

Maybe it can help your 3) point by installing "Lenovo Application Interface Driver for Windows 10".
Download it from here:

Check if after installing it, it will work with Lenovo Companion.

I recently acquired a Thinkpad yoga 15 laptop and while playing with the options I realised it completely lacked Bluetooth functionality. I have tried updating the Intel PROSet Bluetooth software, updating the network adapter drivers, disabling the adapter altogether and reenabling it through the BIOS. I don't know if the Bluetooth adapter is supposed to appear as a different adapter in the Device Manager or if only the Intel Dual-Band AC 7265 is supposed to show up (under the Advanced tab, Bluetooth is labeled as Active). No bluetooth option is present in the PC and devices options menu... I even reset to factory settings in case it was an issue with a third party program, but even there, same situation. Am I missing something? Please help me to get this feature working!

Hello,I'm having trouble since I recieved my LENOVO ThinkPad Yoga 14 two months ago.It is on guarantee.I've noticed that the master fan keeps starting even if the computer is not working at full capacity. Sometimes, it starts right after windows as finished booting! And it's a brand new computer, Intel i7 CPU and 8GO of RAM!The fan keeps working then even if I'm only surfing on the internet or working on word. It's REALLY annoying. I feel like this is already an old computer by it's blowing. My old computer, a 5 years old Toshiba Satellite, doesn't blow so much.I've searched over the web and found that LENOVO had released a new UEFI Bios that was suposed to fix this problem. I've installed it and nothing changed! The fan kept on turning on for nothing else than a gmail home page.I've already asked about another problem on the ThinkPad Yoga 14. It's about a background noise on the built in speakers. Here's the link: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Background-noise-on-ThinkPad-Yoga-14-bu...I'm not having a good experience with this Yoga 14. I was looking for professional quality and it is not.Can someone tell me if they have the same problems? What LENOVO is going to do about it?Thanks.Ludovic.

A:ThinkPad Yoga 14 - The Fan keeps on turning on eve...

Hi ludovicfd Can you please post the full model number of you machine and which Windows version are you using?. For example my TP Yoga 14 is "20DM008UUS" and I didn't experienced those issues.  I'm guessing that your machine fan is blowing too much and making huge noise. In my case I can feel more the hard drive noise than the fan, it is not like the HDD is "that loud", but when you are on a quiet enviroment you can feel it "scrattching". Do you want to try first updating any firmware / BIOS on your machine at the latest level ? After that another alternative will be to try to update the driver for the chipset and power. The basic thing for me is to try to update the drivers and firmware this way:- Windows Update- Lenovo System Update- Lenovo Companionand after that search manually for updates on the Lenovo Support site with your specific model number. Sorry, it is trial and error to see if a driver can fix your issue. If after updating the drivers, you think it is hardware issue you should try to contact Lenovo's Customer Support site Regards

Got Thinkpad Yoga 260 delivered today. Haven't turned it on yet and was checking it out. Lifting it up and slightly shaking produces rattling noice around the right hand side hinge. It's either hinge itself making that sound or inside the laptop around top right corner. Any ideas on what that might be and how to possibly fix it? Should I just consider sending it back to get fixed instead? Thanks. Edit: I suspect it could actually be a right bottom corner of the LCD right over Yoga 260 imprint where the rattle is. There is nothing I can do to fix that. So much for a brand new laptop...

Hi, After working out that my laptop (Thinkpad Yoga S1) most likely has a digitizer, I purchased a pen for it. However, since I wasn't 100% sure, I bought a cheaper, off-brand pen that people said was compatible, the listing for which can be found here. I received it today, but my computer seems unresponsive when I try to use it. When I went to Wacom Pen or Pen and Touch Input, the pen calibration screens were either blank (Wacom) or didn't load (Input). Is there something else I have to do to make my pen work? Did I purchase the wrong pen? If it helps, the pen slot on my computer is still plugged; I was going to unplug it, but to do so I'd have to remove the back paneling, and one of the screws keeping it in place has been stripped. The thread confirming that my laptop has a digitizer is here. Thanks!

A:Thinkpad Yoga digitizer pen

Hi

Please notice that this is my personal opinon and it does not mean I'm 100% right, this is based on my experience.

I think that the "Digitizer PEN for Lenovo ThinkPad X60 X61 X200 X201" is for older Thinkpad models. I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (Similar to S1) (20DM008UUS) and it has a digitizer screen, but it requires an "active pen" (with batteries inside) to be able to work with the digitizer.

I have the Thinkpad Pen Pro and it works fine with my model. I still think you have a digitizer on your laptop but I think it is the wrong pen.

Here it also some more info about the pen that Amy wrote.

I had to send my X1 Yoga (20FQ) back for service as it reported a hardware fault. Sounds like it was due to a corrupt driver reporting a false positive. They had to reimage the laptop, so when I got it back I was starting from scratch. When I opened the Lenovo Companion App (I'm on Win 10 Pro 64), the home page (under the big "Optimise Your Thinkpad" button had this: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th This got me thinking - did they put the correct image on there? I hadn't noticed it when I first got it a month ago, so don't know what it said then. I didn't want to rebuild my system only to find it needed to be reimaged again. I called the repair centre, and they seemed to think it was correct - that that profile was the correct one for my serial number. They put me through to technical support, who thought I was correct - it was the wrong image. They sent me out a recover USB to try again. I've just done that (reimaged) and the Lenovo Companion App says the same thing. Given I got conflicting reports from Lenovo support I thought I'd try the forum here first - to see what other X1 Yoga owners have in their Lenovo Companion App. What does yours say? Maybe the X1 Yoga and X1 Carbon are so similar they can use the same image? Much Appreciated

So bit of a curious problem, and also one that I can replicate rather consistently: When going between pen and touchscreen use, there is a period of time during which touches are not registered. In laptop mode this is approximately half a second. In tablet mode it's anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds. Anyone see this issue before? Anyone know any good diagnostic techniques (and please don't just tell me to update the drivers. Theyre all updated.) This has been an issue for nearly half a year now, however I've only recently found real use for the machine in tablet mode, hence why I am taking action now rather than half a year ago.

Hello everybody i bought a "TP yoga 260"  one  week and an half ago , and i ' d say that i ' m satisfied of purchase . Since the beginning anyway i sorted some problems . The first is the one in the object : since i want to dualboot or at least  use some linux based utilities such as PartedMagic for example i noticed that "grub 2" (the boot loader  of many of the utilities /ISOs) is extremely slow to boot  and all is animations as well are slow ; for example moving from a choise to another  through the arrows takes ages , or at least it is possible to sense a delay that is not present on any of the other machines that i possess. Anyway after booting in the OS , or ISO ,etc everything works fine ... In general i would say that this is not the fastest notebook that i ' ve ever had , even if  it is more powerfool than many others , the boot is not as fast as i expected . I sensed this even with the recovery USB  that i tried to factory reset the device , and it took ages to complete the process , but maybe this is standard . Any of you had these kind of troubles or do you have any suggestions to solve the problem ? Thank you in advance and have a nice day.

Hey everyone, Recently bought this laptop. Loving everything about it. However, I did a fresh install of Windows 10 (it wasn't an upgrade from Win8.1, but rather a new install of Win10 after I replaced the harddrive to a 1TB SSD). Since then I've reinstalled everything I could get from the site. Every Lenovo driver set and utility. Updated the BIOS. Consulted the Solution Center. Ran scans from the utilities and the site. I've literally tried EVERYTHING that's obvious, and I can't get the backlight to come on at all. When I first received the laptop with the old harddrive, the backlight worked just fine. Since I put in the new SSD with a fresh install, I cannot for the life of me get it to turn on. Pressing Fn+SPACE gets it to show the little icon on screen that it's SUPPOSED to be turned on, but it isn't on. So I'm at a loss here. I sincerely doubt it's a hardware issue, because literally the only thing that's changed is the harddrive. If there's a specific driver for the keyboard backlight, I'd love to know about it. Thanks in advance!

Hi,I have a 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 inch notebook. I have had this computer for about 18 months and the screen is completely ruined in many places. I have the matte screen and it appears that the pen has been scratching the soft matte finnish at many places. There are also big smudges from the keyboard that does not go away when I try to clean the screen. I am happy with this laptop overall, but I think it is terrible design to fail to make sure that the screen and keyboard is not touching when the lid is closed! Is it possible to fix these screen issues? Looking at the corner of the the screen, it looks like there is a screenprotector or similar on the device. Is this how Lenovo makes their matte screens? Just pasting a screen protector on top of a glossy screen? If so, would it be possible for me to remove it without damaging the actual screen and get rid of the scratches and smudges? Cheers Cheers

Hello, where can I find the charging indicator on the Thinkpad Yoga? When I'm charging the machine (turned off) I don't see any light or other charging indicator. Is this normal? ThanksRegardsRango

A:Thinkpad Yoga Charging Indicator

Hi Rango,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga doesn?t have a dedicated indicator for charging status.

The illuminated dots in the ThinkPad logo on the outer lid of your computer and on the palm rest show the system status of your computer:

? Blinks for three times: The computer is initially connected to the power.
? On: The computer is on (in normal mode).
? Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
? Blinks fast: The computer is entering sleep or hibernation mode.
? Blinks slowly: The computer is in sleep mode.

Hope this clarified your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I recently decided to use my Wacom Graphics tablet with my Yoga 260. After all the necessary drivers were installed for the Graphics tablet. The touchscreen on the laptop seems to have disappeared, where it had worked perfectly beforehand. I went through the Device Manager and settings and the computer says that there is no longer any touch screen support. I am using Windows 10 and was really hoping that I could use both the computer and the Graphics tablet together. Can somebody please help or give me a way of enabling my touchscreen? Thanks in advance!

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 model. It is using Windows 10. What is the driver/software I should check to make sure I'm running the latest version for the equivalent of what used to be called "Transitions"?  Basically something that recognizes various keyboard configurations such as tablet mode, tent mode, etc. and appropriately disables or re-enables the keyboard? Two things happened last night as I was playing a game in tent mode:- firstly I could not get the screen to rotate 180 degrees when I switched from tablet mode to normal laptop mode by rotating the keyboard and flipping to normal orientation.  So everything was displayed upside-down.- the keyboard was unresponsive, but I could use the touch screen fine and use the Windows button under the screen to get to the Start menu.   So basically somehow something stopped responsing that should have told the system that I flipped the laptop from tent mode to normal mode and also rotated the keyboard forward.

So I got my Thinkpad p40 a few days ago and so far it's been great, with just one problem. The small stylus, the one that's housed in the body of the laptop doesn't work. I'm not sure if the pen itself is defective, or if the charging port is. The separate full-sized pen, the Thinkpad Pen Pro (4X80H34887) functions just fine. I've left the laptop plugged in overnight multiple nights but to no avail, and there doesn't seem to be any 'pen charging driver' in the driver list, just indicators. I've tried various programs, including Lenovo's low battery indicator and the laptop stylus simply doesn't work at all. The Pen Pro works in all the same situations. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I recently got a Yoga 460 thinkpad notebook with win10 already installed. I'm currently struggling with some issues, the biggest one being a big loss of performance while the computer is plugged in and charging. For example, it cannot run a 720p video file without excessive lagging and freezing. The overall interface is laggy in fact, Task Monitor needs more than 20 seconds to appear after ctrl+shift+esc, chrome become unstable and slow, very simple game boy emulator solwed down and such..  Along with this first issues, I've 2 smaller issues being: -Some windows and pop-up windows suffer very low resolution, they look quite blurry, but just some of them.-I had to desinstall Dolby Digital and its driver because they were interfering with the audio output (saccades of high pitched noise each time a new tab was opened somewhere on the computer) when it was turned off. (was fonctionning ok when turned on, but god I hated the distortion it gave to my music). As anyone experienced those issues?Thank you all in advance, Alex

I'm facing the same issue. Suddenly it won't power on. Only LED indicator blinks when plugging in the power supply; and the LED turns on for a few seconds without plugging in the power supply. Beside that nothing happens. Any clue how to solve this? I've checked the connectors but they look ok. I've also tried resetting via "reset button" on the backside. further I've tried several sequences pushing the power button and holding it for 30 - 60 seconds. So far nothing helped. Any clue? I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14 with a EM7455 WWAN broadband card in the M.2 slot.  I can not for sure locate the SIM card slot so I can put in broadband provider sim (like one from T-Mobile or AT&T).  Documentation shows it on the back opposite the fans with a pin hole to pop out a SIM tray.  There is no slot on back of the case. I took the cover off the botton of the Yoga 14, which is where the M.2 slot is located.  At the back about where there should be a SIM card tray, there is a 8 contact SIM socket labeled SIM1 on the motherboard.  I am assuming this the cellular SIM card socket, but it will not take a micro-sim card.  It is to loose to hold it.  It looks like it needs a sim tray.Anyone have any experience with a ThinkPad Yoga 14 sim card or have a suggestion?  Photos of motherboard and sim slot below.    Thank you, Gerry          ??                                                                                          &... I've had the laptop for roughly 2 months and its only been recently that this has been happening. Occasionally, the screen just turns black and then seconds later I'm prompted back to my lockscreen, and my browsers, and programs that I had open have been closed. I'm not sure if it has any relation to what has been happening, but it happens frequently when I have it connected to my tv with an hdmi cable. Also, once it starts up again, the connection with the hdmi no longer works. When I try to use the "project" option it just gives me a message along the lines of: "Laptop cannot project, check the disc driver and restart..." Once I restart the laptop manually however, the hdmi works properly again. Any thoughts? Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm running windows 10, and suddenly my touchscreen stopped working. I checked in the device manager and the "HID compliant touch screen" was disconected. After trying to reinstall software, it was uninstalled and now the option does not even show up anymore. I reinstalled all lenovo drivers and im getting nothing. Windows has no idea its even there. Full disk format and a fresh copy of windows 10, and still nothing. This laptop has been through lenovo support again and again, the last time it went was kinda the last straw for me. :/ It's out of warranty now, but while it was in repair, other things on the computer were also damaged. Hence why it went back twice. But now suddenly the touch screen has stopped and I can't get a single response. Im hoping this is a driver malfunction somehow, but the touchscreen will not even show up in the device manager, not even under hidden devices. Any help?

Hi all, Amongst its main problem of the screen retentions my Yoga has a really annoying problem of when you are using the touchpad and use a single tap to click, the touchpad makes a hollow clicky noise. It's difficult to explain but inexplicably annoying...........if you press it down hard and engage the left click button it may disappear for a while but soon comes back......Anyone else suffer from this? Seem to notice it more when keyboard vertical E.g when using in bed...... Thanks Steve

A:Thinkpad Yoga Clicky Touchpad

Mine was the same since new.. Just fixed it and its really simple. Unscrew the back & carefully remove,Unplug and remove the battery (5? screws careful not to overtighten on reassemly, plastic holes are weak)Unscrew and remove the touchpad (6 screws)Get some alcohol (IPA) (Isopropanol Alchohol, not Indian Pale Ale) on a cotton bud and wipe the sticky adhesive that has crept out from underneath the 2 tiny black plastic pads that are stuck to the stainless steel metalwork (on the touch pad).  Ironically, i suspect these pads are there to stop the sheet metal from "clacking" against the case metalwork casting when you let go of the TP, unfortunately the adhesive has leached round to the front of the pad and makes a nasty smacking noise everytime you put the lightest of pressure ont he TP. picture some goop between your thumb and forfinger and the noise it makes when you try and separate them. hope this helps, it was driving me bonkers.

Hello everyone,About a week ago, I got an error message saying something like the battery cannot be identified (I'm trying to find a screenshot somewhere).Since that moment, the battery does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in, while the battery is nearly full (>90%).I found this thread and it fits exactly to my problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-14-battery-quot-plugged-i... I understand that this behaviour might be a feature to improve the batteries lifespan, but I really want to get rid of that. The Lenovo Settings App offers the option to manually set the charging-threshold to 40-100%, but setting it to 100% or turning the feature off does not change anything.Another side effect is that the charging process does not begin until about 1 minute after the AC adapter is plugged in.I didn't knowingly change anything on the software configuration when the problem appeared, the said error message appeared while watching YouTube-videos. lg, couka

The mouse pad sometimes does not work and requires a restart for it to start working again.Plugging in the charger reduces the laptops performance drastically for some reason. Searched online to only find solutions for different types of Lenovo laptops that do not seem to work for this one. Some texts appear blurry/lower quality than they should be. Possibly due to the laptops display settings being set at 150% but reducing it makes everything way too small.Any ideas how to fix these problems? Spent a lot of money for this laptop and cant return it now so I'm very disappointed so far.

My laptop doesn't turn on anymore. Here is what I have to do to turn it on (I tried many sequence of steps, but this is the only one that works every time):-Disconnect battery and CMOS battery-Press power button ten times, then press and hold for 30 seconds-Connect power adaptor and press power button At this point, my laptop turns on, but I have to reset my time and date in BIOS (of course this is normal since I disconnected the CMOS batter). Once I turn my laptop on, my batter shows that it is charging and it is at 100%. I dual boot and both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 show the batter charging at 100%.As soon as I unplug my AC adaptor, the laptop turns off again and I have to repeat the sequence above again to turn it on. This happens consistently. However, if I shutdown my laptop the right way without unplugging the AC adaptor at any point, it turns back on normally. This happens of both my Linux and Windows OS. What I've tried:-Uninstalling battery drivers and restarting my laptop-Updating to the latest power management drives from this Lenovo websiteI also read that some HP laptops have software issues that doesn't allow the laptop to switch from AC adaptor mode to battery mode. I believe this might be the issue I'm seeing, but I couldn't find a way to check this setting. I don't think this last detail is related, but when I shutdown Windows, I see a message saying:Closing 1 app and restartingAsusSGPLusBTServerThis app is preventing you f rom restartingAlo... After using the new(ish) Thinkpad Yoga 12 (with Wacom touchscreen) over the last 4-5 months, I think I can point to a few key changes that would make the next generation a knockout product. Keyboard design. It?s not bad, as far as modern keyboards go, though not as good as Thinkpad classic. However, I think I could live with the modernization a little more happily if the design was tweaked just a bit. Simply getting one more row in, so that home/end/insert/delete/pgup/pgdn could live in their own block and the f-keys could be less-squished would help a lot. I also miss the Windows context key (though at least that functionality could be restored now with a little help from HidMacros or Autohotkey). As I say, the keyboard is already a major step-up from competitors, so why not push the advantage?Screen size. The screen really looks pretty good as far brightness, resolution, and viewing angles go. But super-wide screen is simply not the best choice for the business use of this machine. It makes it awkward to hold with one arm for stylus work, and it?s just a little too thin and tall when you want to turn it on its side to read and mark PDFs. I know 4:3 ratio is a hard sell these days, but what about 3:2 like the Surface Book?Resolved stylus sensitivity. This may just be the reality of Wacom technology in a tablet, but corner accuracy is really bad, and no amount of calibrating to 100+ points or reinstalling drivers fixes it. Maybe some have had success with these ... Read more

After reading through dreaded black screen issue for other models, I am checking if the Thinkpad Yoga also has the black screen issue. Given that this happened barely inside a month after the warranty expired, this has solid changes to be the last lenovo product in the family. Issue: I returned one home from work to wake up my sleeping Lenovo. Noticed it seemed to be in a dark screen mode with nothing showing up. So tried to press a few buttons and then finally powered off using the button. Upon restart, I could see the Lenovo sign and option to press Enter to check other options and I ignored like usual happy path scenario and let it go. At the time it usually starts showing the Windows screens, I see nothing happen. A dark screen with all the keyboard lights still working but no screen. Connected to projector to see if the login screen shows but it did NOT. Tried to restart few times, reset using the pinhole at the bottom, ran diagnositcs and tried to refresh system etc using the troubleshoot options, checked the BIOS settings - all of which show up on screen and the LCD test pass like a charm but the Windows boot does not work. Thinkpad Yoga 15 running on Windows 10 pro. 20DQ machine type. The frustarting thing is warranty just expired end of July, phone support wont even discuss the issue since it is expired. Hello, Could somebody help me with the solution for charging my laptop X1 Yoga for USB docking station, please? Thnak you, Marius.

A:x1 yoga not charge from ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock

USB 3.0 docks are not capable of powering a computer (unless some non-standard functionality is used, and even then only a small amount of power can be supplied). The only standards compliant way to power a computer from a USB dock is a USB type C dock with power delivery capability connected to a USB type C port on a suitable laptop. The X1 Yoga does not have USB type C, so the only dock that can power the X1 Yoga is the OneLink+ Dock. You will need to connect a power adapter as well as the USB 3.0 dock if you wish to power the X1 Yoga.

Hello folks, I am having a super **bleep**ty problem with my notebook, I hope someone can help...I am a happy owner of a 1.5 years old Thinkpad Yoga. I updated to Windows 10 last year but no major issues so far. Around one month ago though, I started getting some problems with my wifi connections. Sometimes, after disconnecting (voluntarily), the wifi wouldn't reconnect at all and disabling the WiFi would make it even worse, because I wouldn't be able to enable it again and had to reboot. The wifi simply shows no networks and presents that little red "x" on its icon.Well, last week the problem got worse. The WiFi stopped working and wouldn't get back even while rebooting.Sometimes it will get back after a reboot, in those cases it stays good and alive as far as I don't reboot and keep the device enabled.I ultimately resetted my Windows yesterday to see if it problem would be fixed. The windows started up good, but when I started again today, the problem was there again. Some facts:1. I saw no particular pattern on which circumstances the problem is shown more often.2. The device manager will show the wireless adapter sometimes, but most times won't.3. The Bluetooth radio doesn't seem to be affected at all by this issue.4. Updating or reinstalling the driver doesn't seem to help, although it can bring the wifi adapter back to work (until I reboot the system).5. I had a VPN software before updating to Windows 10 (although I believe I uninstalled it before that), but m... Read more

Hey Guys I'm rather confused about the pen support for the new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15. I've read quite a bit about it and find the information quite inconsistent. Some say it does support active pen some say it will in april and some say it doesn't. What I would like to know:A.) What kind of pen technology does the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 support atm?B.) Are there any changes in sight? / When? / What changes?C.) Can I write on it while resting my hand on the screen aka has it palm rejection?D.) How good is it for note taking? Can it keep up with my writing speed? Links to videos where I can actually see it being used / tested would be greatly appreciated.

A:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 Active Pen

From what I know there isn't too much information out so far. But here's what I found out. First off, the current Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 don't support pen digitizers at all, and will not in the future.Secondly, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write apparently uses the same technology. See this thread. Here's what I know:- It's called Wacom "Active ES" as in Active Electro Static.- It's battery powered. Unlike Wacom's older technology, you need a battery in the pen.- Palm rejection is more of a driver thing and not the technology. So it works, basically.- People say it feels "different", not sure if that means better or worse.- Precision is apparently very good, perhaps even better than the older tech without battery.- Pen lag (speed) doesn't seem to be an issue. Might even be better than the older technology. Other than that I personally couldn't find any information about whatever will be built into the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 Only that they call it "Active Pen" and that it will be out in April. Also that the displays will support something called "anypen" which basically means you can use any pen-shaped metal object to write on the display. But that isn't really of any interest to me because I want pressure sensitivity.
