A: My HP 2000-369wm notebook won't boot past the HP logo screen...

Not a lot of info here1) Can you access the BIOS /CMOS screen2) IF yes can you move around the screens and or see that the system has recognised the hard drive. Does the system make any strange noises? How long does it take to switch on ?Is it getting over hot? What happen eventually?Do you can you power it off easily or do you have to hang on to the power button to get it to go offWith it powered OFF!Have you tried removing the hard drive?Reseatting the Memory?Removed the Optical drive? If no then try this below. Try using a boot DVD/CD to establish if the system will 'get out of bed' Or a linux boot flash stick you can then see if the system is viable and or if the system can access the Hard drive(s) It will also allow you to recover the data transfer to a flash stick.

Hi, I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my PC after accidentally formating the HHD because of a faulty image system I tried to restore.  I was able to download and install most of the drivers that I required from this page on hp website: However the chipset driver seems to be missing. The processor is: AMD E-450 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.65HGzThis seems to be the motherboard information of the pc: Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard            Product: 3577SerialNumber: PCHMCA47V1R2BJ             Version: 24.49 I obtained that information by running the following command on the command prompt:    >wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer, version, serialnumber The rest of the pc specs are on this hp page (its google cache version since the page look blank to me otherwise): Any help would be appreciated.

Just reinstalled this computer with the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system. After the installing there was no networks available to connect to. I even connected it through an Ethernet cable and nothing happened. I clicked on the troubleshoot link and windows network diagnostics and it says to Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver. I tried to reinstall the operating system and nothing change. Not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

I have an HP Pavilion Media Center Desktop, running Vista Home Premium OS..Every time I try to log on, or re-boot, it gets to the HP logo screen, and stalls there. Also my DVD drive is not reading properly, so I know I am at a disadvantage trying to boot from a disk. The screen I am describing, does have options at the bottom. <esc> boot, <setup> F10, <system Recovery>F11..The ONLY two that even tries to do anything is esc.....It says booting...but stalls, and F10 (recover) button. It does the same, says restoring, but stalls also. Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

Thank You,

Phil Heard

Have you checked the HP website for possible solutions?

My computer will not boot up all the way. It will show the ACER logo, and then go to a black screen from which it does not recover from.  We have ordered a USB System recovery drive, which does nothing. I have set the USB HDD to be the first item to boot from. I also enabled the F12 boot menu. I tried to let the system boot itself up after changing the bootup sequence in the BIOS.  After that, I used the F12 menu to select the USB HDD to boot up the laptop with no success.
ACER Aspire E 15 Touch E5-511P-C9BM
Windows 8
I am willing to take this thing down to factory settings, wipe everything completely if necessary, nothing is critical to keep on the system.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

A:Won't boot past logo screen with bootup USB

In UEFI make sure that if you have a setting called Quick or Fast Boot it is disabled.
I am assuming you tried F12 with the USB recovery drive attached, correct?
If you still cannot get the USB flash drive to boot go here and download the Windows 8.1 using the media creation tool. This will let you create a bootable USB flash drive. See if you can get this USB key to boot.
Edit: Do you need any data off this computer?
Edit Edit:
You may be able to recover your Acer following the steps here. Select Refresh, not Reset. This will preserve any data on the computer along with installed Apps but your installed programs from third parties will need to be reinstalled.

I am using an HP Pavilion Notebook and recently did a full reset of my Windows 10 OS as my computer was sluggish and not performing properly. After the reset I reinstalled Windows 10 and everything seemed to be working fine again. I reset the notebook, but it will not boot up now. It displays the HP logo with the white spinning wheel, then the screen changes and the HP logo disappears while the white spinning wheel continues to spin, but never progresses through the rest of the boot process.I have done a hard reset and run through the systems tests in the BIOS, neither of which has worked towards resolving the issue.

If you had "real" Vista, you could use System Restore straight from the DVD but you might need an XP CD to sort this one. First, though, tap the Function 8 key when you reboot and select from the Advanced Boot Options "Disable automatic restart on system failure". Post back some of the detail on the blue screen and someone will help.

I have been testing new Insider Preview builds of Window 10.  Everything was working and then Explorer froze up and was not responding. I did a CTRL+ALT+Del and started Task Manager to start Explorer.exe. But no reaction from the system in response to the keystrokes. I was force to manually power off the machine.
After that, now when I power on the 2330 it fires up the internal fan and seeks the DVD drive and goes to the Dell Logo screen and just stays there. Stuck at the Logo screen. Power button stays white in color. No matter what I do, F2 and F12 during power on, the PC does not respond at all. If I press the space bar a progress line shows up under the logo and F12 displays in the top right corner. If I press F12 during that time, it does not take me to the boot menu.  It just sits there displaying the Dell Logo and it will stay like that for over 24 hours or more, never a response.
I unplugged the power cord and pressed on the power button for two minutes to discharge static electricity. This made no difference.
This happened a day after my extended warranty expired. Last year I had this same issue, and Dell sent a guy to my house with a new motherboard, which fixed the problem. Now one year later, my motherboard has died again. And conveniently for Dell, my warranty elapsed the previous day,  What is the deal with these motherboards? Why do they keep breaking on me?

A:Dell Inspiron One 2330 AIO won't boot past logo screen

Yes, it was the motherboard.  Dell tech came out and put a new one in and everything is working as it was before the MB failed. Thank you Dell rep Rishi.

My first time ever posting in a forum regarding help with a PC. I apologize if I ramble off too much.

My Specs:
Moba: ASrock Z77 Extreme 4
CPU:Interl i5-2500k @3.30
PSU: ZT 650W
GPU: Radeon 7850

Here is the story.

About three weeks ago I was playing GW2, out of no where my screen glitches and gives me the blue screen of death. I boot it up and I kept getting that screen. I send MSI my card for an RMA. They send me back another one.

I plugged it in and everything works fine. I play for about 5-7 hours(had a day off to catch up)
Everything works great, I wake up the next day, start looking things on Reddit and I noticed this digitized screen and BAM! I get the blue screen of death. I freak out. OMG!OMG!

Every time I would boot up my PC through the GPU, the monitor would not turn on for about 2 minutes and then it would turn on but with a blank black screen. No errors on the mother board debugger by the way. I can however boot up through my MOBA internal graphics. I delete all of my drivers for the AMD and did CMOS reset. Nothing worked. I tried both of the PCI slots as well.

I waited for my neighbor to get home to see if it's the GPU. I put it in his PC and it boots up just fine. So I take it back home and think it's my MOBA. So I say "Let me try this again." I plug it in and BAM! It works again. So I play for a few hours and left the computer on over night. I woke up before work and turned off my PC. I come back home and it doesn't... Read more

On this latest black boot up, can you boot normally with the onboard GPU? If so, I have a feeling that the PCI express port may be at fault, do you have another PCI express card you can try as a process of elimination?

I have tried putting in my recovery CD. Nothing works. It freezes and I am forced to do a hard shut down and start all over again. I am taking any and all suggestions (that make sense) at this point. A:HP notebook will not boot past HP screen

laptops are notoriously hard to pinpoint a fault with, from what you say it sounds like a HDD issue,

download the makers test tool and run checks on the drive, it may be coincidental that the virus hit at the same time the drive was on its way out.

Yes the laptop will look for the HDD before booting from a cd/dvd and will freeze if it cant find it...

Yesterday I installed critical/needed Windows XP updates that had been waiting on me for a few weeks behind the yellow update shield in the lower right corner of my screen. I was having problems connecting my son’s new Christmas present, Xbox Live , to the internet so I was about to restart the computer to see if maybe the router needed me to do a clean reboot after entering the Xbox’s MAC address into my allowed devices list. I stupidly thought I’d be thorough by installing those waiting updates first and then restart. All went well and when it finished and asked if I wanted to restart now I selected yes. Nothing happened. I kept trying, still no restart. Then I went to Start>Turn Off>Restart several times and each time I returned to my desktop with nothing happening. Finally I just did a cold shutdown with the power button. My son is, understandably, so upset that he can’t use his present to connect with his friends live.
Now my computer won’t boot up at all past the Dell splash screen. The typical churning, lights and sounds all begin and then when the Dell logo screen appears, everything goes quiet. It took me several times before I could get into my BIOS, select boot order to start with my CD, place my XP install disc into my drive and restart. Still, I can’t get past that screen and it never boots from the CD. (the CD light does go steady at “power on” like it always does but then goes off at that splash screen along with everything else. So far I've used a boot cd to run chkdsk on the drive, and I've tried restoring to a previous point.

I do Not have an installation disk for Windows 7.

A:Dell Laptop w/ Windows 8 won't boot past dell logo screen

Hello Univers789,
Re-installing windows is the last resort. So before doing that, you can try the steps mentioned below which might fix the issue. 1. Restart the laptop and start tapping the F2 key at the Dell logo for enter the BIOS. 2. Navigate to the “Advanced” menu. 3. Change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from Intel Smart Response to AHCI. 4. Press F10 to save changes and exit. 5. Reboot the system. 6. Go back into the BIOS by tapping the F2 key and change the SATA operation/selection in BIOS from AHCI to Intel Smart Response. 7. Save changes and exit by pressing the F10 key. 8. Reboot the system and it should boot normally into Windows. In case the above steps don’t fix the issue, run the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics. Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action. Please write back with results.

I sat down in the evening and noticed i had what looked like a small red checkered pattern on my screen. So i decided to open up my computet...dust it out and check the connections. Upon trying to wouldnt come on. I noticed the green light on the back by the power supply was flashing. So i looked it up and followed the procedure to resolve the surge protection loop. (unpluged power cord to mobo..all drivers..etc. ) and it i was able to get the computer to power back on. But then realized that i couldnt get it past the compaq logo page (no power to keyboatd or cant get into safemode or bios or anything) . And my screen looked even worse...blurry and jumpy. Hiyas, have a HP 110 Desktop model 110-305a-b (assume Aus only model) thats misbehaving. Initially the owner reported that the USB's at the front and one of the 4 on the back had stopped working.  All three in question still had power but no recognition that a device (keyboard, mouse or usb stick) had been inserted.  In Device Manager there was one usb component/device with error code 43 which i followed numerous guides to reset/detect etc without success.  The device list did not refresh or change on plugging in anything to the bad ports. So I thought I might check the bios and entered windows 10 recovery options after holding shift and clicking Restart.  From there I selected the change uefi firmware option.  Well since that reboot, the machine will not go past the HP logo, the hdd light flashes once and it will sit there frozen.   I have tried:bios resetmemory swap/replaceunplug everthing inc wifi module, drives etcholding/tapping ESC, F1 to F12 on startupwin10 bootable usb in one of the working portsdifferent power supply Anyone have suggestions what else i can try? Its feeling more and more like hardware failure but I dont want to give up without trying everything.

Hello,The other day I decided to reset my computer in hopes of having it run more smoothly. I don't really have a lot saved on it besides a few games, but it said I have low storage memory. I save all my music, documents, etc. on my flash drives. I've done a reset before with no problems so I am very confused as to what went wrong this time.So I go to the menu & click reset (all drives, just erase my files as I'm keeping the PC, etc.). After a minute, I would look at it & it would be at 3 percent, then 5, but soon it would say a problem occurred while resetting. Okay, so I tried to reset it again & the same thing happened. The highest it got to was 38 percent. I tried it 2 or 3 more times & eventually gave up. When I tried to start my computer back up it would freeze on the HP logo screen then go blank (black screen). I knew something was wrong because the little symbol that rolls around while the screen loads up did not pop up.I turned it off then tried to start it up again & ran into the same problem. I looked up some possible solutions to this on my phone & none worked (holding the power button for however long). I pushed the F11 button & was able to make it to the recovery screen. I pushed F8 for startup settings, but the screen would flicker & not go to it.While still on the recovery screen, I pushed F8 & decided to run a system test. I don't know if the cause of this problem is hardware related or the BIOS software  soooo move if need be. Hello y'all, so I guess I'll get straight to the problem and what I've done to try and fix it.Alrighty so basically the lappy was acting odd/laggy and it had been on for a day or 2 straight. So I decided it was about time to restart it and I went to restart and it popped up saying it still had some things running and so I did force restart. Went down then back up and it was in BIOS for some reason. It asked something and so I made like 2 changes and I can't even remember what the changes were to be honest and I'm mad at myself for it. So after I went to save and Exit the laptop would NOT go past the MSI Logo.i.imgur .com/SIc127p.jpg(remove the space)Now that I'm stuck on the logo, I can't get into BIOS I tried tapping Del key over and over or even F1 F2 F3 F4 I tried doing them +Ctrl and +Alt and +Ctrl+AltIt simply will not go past this. The Power button is staying White, and the keyboard lights up BUT if I press numlock or caps lock the light will NOT cut on on the board for whatever reason. So after doing what I can with it like it is, and I've tried booting it with no usb things in still nothing. I did some digging and thought if I could get to the CMOS battery that I could reset the BIOS and undo whatever settings I changed and I'd be back in business. I've seen a couple other threads like this, but their situations weren't exactly like mine, and I figure that might change the solution process a bit.

My problem is that my computer (a Compaq Presario, around 2 years old) won't load past the Windows XP logo when it is starting up. The little blue "loading" blocks keep running, but nothing happens, and this lasts several hours (without any loading noises) before I give up and turn the computer off. I *can* start it in safe mode, and it gives me the option of System Restore, but I tried restoring it twice and neither time worked (it would just stop at the Windows XP logo again). I tried "Last Known Good Configuration," but that also doesn't work, as it still stops at the logo.

I tried doing a virus scan in safe mode with avast! antivirus, but it goes extremely slowly, and I keep giving up even though I think the problem is a spyware or a virus. Another note: this problem started on Tuesday, but I got the computer to load once (somehow) after turning it on and off several times that day. Now it won't load at all.

I haven't downloaded any programs within the past two weeks, and I don't know how to uninstall/reinstall XP as people have suggested on other threads... I really don't know what it could be. Please help!

I have a Gateway P-7805U, it is running Vista. I have tried hitting the F8, F2, F10 and nothing happens.  I hit the ESC button and it will take you to another screen. If I press F2, it says "entering setup...." but it will stay that way for a LONG time.  The light that tells you the computer is thinking, only blinks for a quick second and never comes back on.
I have a copy of the restore disc and actually tried them just to see if it would do something different.  It would not.
I am like other people, I have important stuff I cannot afford to loose.  Does it sound like a OS problem or does it go further?
Thanks in advance.

Try booting it while repeatedly tapping F8 that should get you into safe mode, it could be a damaged driver that the system can't load.

My laptop won't boot past the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" logo. I can hear the hard drive starting up, but nothing happens after that. I have reason to believe it's a software and not a hardware problem because the last thing I did on the laptop was exit Windows from safe mode after installing some drivers. So far while troubleshooting I've tried to boot into the BIOS via F2 or F12 to no avail. Any help would be appreciated!

A:Aspire E 11 wont boot past Acer logo

the first bootable device must be windows boot manager. if your windows 10 installation media is not booting, that means is not UEFI compatible. download the windows 10 iso file using the official Microsoft tool: once done, use Rufus to create the bootable USB flash drive, use the settings in its website main plug the USB to your laptop, press F12 at boot and choose the USB flash drive.

Hi Acer community, I have a new E1-572G laptop. Long story short, I installed Win 7 on it, and after that, Ubuntu 14.10. I had issues with bootloader, but after fiddling around with legacy/UEFI booting, secure boot, and things like that, I almost successfully configured the laptop. When I selected the ubuntu uefi bootmgr in the bios, in secure boot mode, I rebooted the laptop for what I thought the last time, but then it did not go past the Acer logo. Only combination that works is ctrl+alt+delete. If I remove the hdd, then the acer logo flashes for half a second, and a black screen appears, with a static console cursor at the left upper corner. I searched a lot in the topic, wanted to reset the bios, but there is no jumper for this, nor can I remove the bios battery. I wanted to reflash the bios, but I could not find proper instructions on this. Please help me, if there is any solution I could try at home.

Hey everyone

FYI, at the screen where the Windows 7 logo should be, it only shows 8 blue lines at the top of the screen as i disabled the logo a while ago (turned on No GUI boot in msconfig/boot)

Anyways, normally the 8 lines show up at the top of the screen for a few seconds, and then my PC continues with regular startup.

However, this time the 8 lines show up, and then many different coloured pixels appear at the top of the screen. It then freezes and nothing else happens.

Can anyone help me?

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble with my computer.
Some History-
The PC is now over a year old and has been running fine for about a year.
AMD 3500+
939GT4- SLI-G Mobo
2 GB Twinmoss Ram
200 Sata HD
6600GT Sli Pixel View Graphics PCIe
Super Flower 500 Watt PSU.

Now about 6 months ago, I started to get the Nvidia card sentinal saying the Graphics Card isnt getting enough power and will reduce its performance to prevent any damage. I checked it all out and it appear to be fine so pretty much ignore the issue.

About 2 months ago my computer, whilst playing a game, would turn off the monitor and shut down, the game in question was City of Heroes. Some nights it would work fine others it would happen twice then run fine again.

Last week the computer was running really slow and had a process running at 99%. I fixed this by deciding to do a complete formatt and resinstall.
I reinstalled everything including the graphics card drivers (the pop up about insufficient power was still there). Everything was running fine until last night when the screen went in horizontal lines of greens and whites.

On a restart it gets to the windows logo with the progress screen and then remains blank.
I then restarted and up came 'the Windows did not start properly last time' and listed the Safe mode options. Obviously normal did not work but i could use both Safe modes.
Now thinking the PSU was at fault, I ran out to get a new 600 Watt PSU and the same thing happened.

Hi everyone.

Yesterday I wanted to install OS X Mavericks on my HDD. It requires a primary partition, so I decided to delete the 350 MB system reserved partition that Windows 8 automatically creates when you first install it.
I read this guide, which explains how to transfer all the boot files from the system reserved partition to the partition where Windows is installed.
I followed all the steps except for the last one. When it says to do a
reagentc /enable

I skipped it because when it first says to do
reagentc /disable

the output of the program was "reagentc was not enabled"(so why enable it if it was already disabled? Later I will understand that maybe this was the source of all future problems ).
Then I rebooted and tried to delete that system partition from within Windows, but of course it prevented me from doing that.
I booted gparted live and went on and deleted the partiton.

Now Windows would not boot, and I did not have Windows 8.1 disc to make a system repair.
So I put Windows 7 disc and it managed to put boot files back (it did not detect any windows installation but still managed to make Windows 8.1 boot).
I forgot to say that I have another primary partition other than windows, and it's a /boot partition where GRUB2 is installed. So I booted in linux and reconfigured GRUB2 to make it boot my Windows partition (/dev/sda2) instead of the just deleted one (/dev/sda1).

I rebooted and Windows started fine. Then I launched t... Read more

I'm running a desktop pc with Windows XP SP3. The security software I use is BitDefender Total Security 2010 (I'll refer to it as BD). About 3 weeks ago, BD blocked a virus/trojan. Seconds later, it blocked about a dozen more infected files at once. They were of course deleted or moved into Quarantine. However, a few days later the computer wouldn't even reach the Windows logo when booting. After much research it was determined that this was the after-effect of the virus. Since safe-mode didn't work, I was forced to boot from my Windows CD and enter recovery mode, in which I deleted a 0kb *.sys file (the name was random gibberish). After this, the pc booted fine.

However, yesterday BD did it again. A virus or trojan (unfortunately I don't have the name) was blocked, and then a series of other infected files were also blocked (I remember one was 'temp.tmp' in the 'C:\WINDOWS\Temp' directory, and another was somewhere in my 'Application Data' folder). When booting my computer, this time it loads to the Windows Logo. After that, instead of the Login screen loading, the hard drive seems to go quiet, and the computer attempts a reboot.

I've booted into Recovery again, but found no 0kb *.sys files. I've used the Chkdsk, Fixboot, (not Fixmbr though) commands to no avail. I still can't boot past the Windows Logo.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated (specifically ones that don't inv... Read more

I'm having some serious troubles with my main PC, my gaming PC, and it's really messing things up for me.

I was just parusing around like usual on my computer, it runs Windows 7, and I allowed it to download the usual updates and restart itself. When it shut down and began restarting, I notice that it loads up the logo, briefly flashes what I think is called a Bios Post page, and then goes to a page that is nothing but a blinking "__" sign. It does nothing here, won't continue, and I can't enter or do anything. It just endlessly blinks, before disappearing and the computer screen shows nothing but black.

Can I get some help here? I'd really appreciate it. .___.

I started noticing about a week ago that my Optiplex 7010, when rebooted from the OS (Windows 10 Pro x64), will not complete the post process and gets stuck at the big Dell logo.  The only resolution is to power cycle it.
Today I ran the complete diag tool on it and it reported no issues.  I did notice that there was a Bios update available and downloaded it in attempts to upgrade the Bios.  However, when the Bios installer reboots the machine, the same thing happens and the installation doesn't proceed.
The only peripherals attached are the VGA monitor, a USB keyboard and mouse, and the speaker cable.  What else can I do to figure out what's causing the system to hang at the Dell logo?
PS.  I did notice however that when I enter the Bios and make a change that causes the system to reboot, that reboot is successful.  So it's almost as if the only reboots not succeeding are ones stemming from the OS.

I dont know alot about computers so please bare with me. I deleted alot of old programs (such as games etc) which I do not use anymore, *through the control panel add/remove programs*, then did a virus scan, and deleted what was found, and decided to go to and get the sp3.. after I installed, when I restarted my computer later, it gave me a black screen saying that it was shut down unexpectedly, and offers safe modes, last good config, and start normally, I have tried all three options, with safe mode, it freezes the computer, with the other two, it boots to the windows logo screen, then it will restart the entire system. Is there any way to fix this? I did not get windows disks or anything like that when I bought the computer, I did create recovery disks, but have since lost one of them, so they aren't much help.

Hi, Try the following. First of all, use another PC to create a bootable Windows 10 DVD or USB Flash Drive via the following link.  Under the section 'Need to create a USB, DVD or ISO', download the Media Creation Tool. Once you have this, run the tool, select 'Create installation media for another PC', then select the language, edition of Windows 10, and 64bit. Follow the rest of the prompts to create this and then click Finish when completed. Insert the Windows 10 Installation Media and Shutdown the notebook by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to enter the Start-up Menu and then select the Boot Options Menu ( f9 ). Use the arrow keys to highlight the CDROM (uefi) or USB Flash Driver ( uefi ) option, depending on which type of media you created, then hit enter - if prompted to 'Press any key to continue....' - do so. Boot to the Advanced Start-up Options Menu - see Option 5 on the link below for details on accessing this. Then try running Windows System Restore to return the notebook to a point in time before this issue occurred - See Option 1 on the link below for details on this procedure. Regards, DP-... First post here

Most of our PC's are Windows XP running Office 2003 (with a view to going to Win 7 and Office 2010 very soon).

A couple of our users have been having the following problem -Turn on PC
Get to windows XP logo screen fine
Get to the blue desktop background further progress even if left for 15 minutes.
The hard drive light flashes only briefly now and again at this point. Sometimes at this screen we will also get mouse function but nothing else.

The user normally has to restart their machine a number of times to get to the eventual logon box.

Another way around this is to do a hard power down and reboot the PC into safe mode. From safe mode do a restart and it goes straight in fine without getting stuck. Unfortunately this not something one of the Directors at the firm would like to be doing every morning when they come in.

Any ideas? At wits end at the moment

Hi. So last night I was downloading the Windows 10 update and I had to clear space for it. I am not sure if accidentally deleted major files or what, but now my computer will not load past the HP logo screen! It did shut down during the middle of the update and I haven't been able to fix it since. This is one with a sealed battery so it will not allow me to take the battery out. I have tried a manual restart and that does not help .The computer turns on and off. It gets to the hp stays there for a minute then turns off and restarts to the logo screen. I have ran the diagonostic test and eveyrthing came back passed. I can also get to the blue screen by pressing f10 and have the advanced options. When I try to reset it to factory it goes to 37% and then says there was a problem with this reset. I have also tried to do the comand prompt and when i click on it i am prompted to selecet a user ( and it has my account) I click my account name and it brings me to a black box saying "Adminstration" when I hit enter it just then says another line of "adminstration". I have also tried running the self repair and it says this can not be repaired. Do I have any options?!?! I am not sure what to do I have only had this computer about 2 weeks.

So I have been messing around with this laptop for weeks now trying to figure out how to get it back to normal loading and everything. What happened at first was that my husband noticed the computer was very slow in responce to just about everything. We checked internet connections and nothing helped. Well one night he shut it down, and the next day when he tried to turn it on, it would state "Checking Media (Fail)" then change to another screen that said "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine".  After attempting to reboot the machine, these same notifications came up over and over.  So, I researched tons of forums on tips of how to get it "re-booted" This was a few weeks ago so I dont remember exactly what I did. I changed boot options, this and that, and nothing helped. However the absolute last thing I did was changed something to "Intel Smart Response", and now my computer will NOT move past the Dell logo. even f2 and f12 wouldnt work. The loading bar under the Dell logo will pop up, but it will say like that. I have tried waiting it out for hours and nothing changes. My brother did try a Recovery USB, but he forgot that my laptop is Windows 8 and his is 7, so needless to say that didnt work at all.
So my problem is now that I need to create that Recovery USB thing. I was not aware that I should have made this as soon as my computer came in. I have nev... Read more

A:Creating a Windows 8 Recovery Drive for an Inspiron that will not load past the Dell logo screen!! HELP

"Checking Media" and "No Boot Device Found" sounds like it's trying to boot from the DVD drive but not finding a Windows system disk.  You can try putting one in the drive.  If you don't have a Windows 8 system disk, you'll have to keep trying the F12 bypass (keep pressing it repeatedly...don't hold or only press once) to get you into boot options, and then make sure you select your hard drive.  You should be able to request a system disk from Dell (and you should anyway...even if you do recover from the USB drive).
ALSO: please remember that, unless you made an image of your hard-drive or used backup software, your "recovery" options will be limited to repairing the existing installation or reinstalling altogether.  If you reinstall, you could lose your files and settings.
For what it's worth,  my Inspiron started acting up after about a year (Windows 7) with overheating on high-demand programs (even with a cooling pad, plenty of ventilation and a desktop fan blowing on it).  That was followed by the slow performance you described and now I'm getting a "hard drive failure" error.
I've seen other users report the similar issues with their Inspirons on these forums (and others) so I think we just got stuck with a lemon .  Hope you have better luck with yours....I've pretty much given up on mine and moved back to my old desktop.

So I slipstreamed the Win Server 2003 CD with SATA drivers and ran the Win Server 2003 set-up program. Followed through the installation prompts and on the option of selecting a partition to install, selected the C partition (where Vista was installed). Next selected the QuickFormat option. The installation program shutdown the notebook and after that when the notebook was booting up it is hung up on the hp logo screen. The notebook wont go beyong the HP logo screen. If I press F10 then on the same screen the message at the bottom is "F10...BIOS Setup Options" and there is a beep. Tried pressing the Esc key but just a beep sound.

How do I get beyond the HP logo screen on my notebook? Appreciate the help..

Every time I try to login to win 2000 i put in my name and password it goes to the next screen but then just hangs with the hourglass spinning. I can boot in safe mode with no problem but the issue occurs with all my logins including a new test one i've created. I've run av scan, adaware scan, win updates, i tried running spybot but it won't start up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It could be any number of things but my first 2 guesses are possibly the hard drive or might want to take it somewhere so that you will get a correct diagnosis.

My Compaq Armada 3500 won't boot past COMPAQ logo. It wont boot to Floppy or CD and I cant enter BIOS to change any settings. I have 2 of these laptops (I bought them both used). My other one had the same similar problem when I got it, but I fixed by removing the cmos battery for 30 minutes and rebooting after I put it back in without the HD in the case. It told me error 162 options not set, and date and time had to be reset, and to hit F1 to save the settings. I did and rebooted. It booted to my floppy Win98 boot disk fine, and then I put in a COMPAQ setup for portables and a DIAG floppy and set it up to boot to multi boot. It runs like a charm now for its size.
But the other one will not accept any of these options although it does tell me the same message after I remove the CMOS battery and put it back in as I did the other one. But when I reboot, it still doesnt see the floppy, CDROM or let me boot to bios to enter setup. It just shows the COMPAQ logo and says "non system disk, remove the disk and hit a key when ready." I have removed the hard drive, removed the CD ROM, and removed the floppy on seperate occasions to see if any of them were the problem, but no change. I took the whole thing apart, and put it back together hoping something would end up being connected to the problem, but it still doesn't change the problem. Next to selling it for parts, any ideas? Its in great shape, has a nice 13 inch lcd and good floppy and cd-roms, and 192 ram.

The other day, I tried to do a factory reset on my laptop, but it failed, and I could only click cancel. Now, when I booted up my computer, it goes to the ASUS logo, then a black screen, still backlit, with an underscore flashing in the upper left corner of the screen. I can access the BIOS, and have been trying to do boot overrides. Please help, I don't have the ASUS Recovery partition installed on the laptop, and I don't have any possible ways to install an ISO. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Not sure I understand how you could perform a factory reset if you don't have the recovery partition available. You should have gotten an error that the ASUS Recovery Partition could not be found.

You would need to get to a working computer and download either the Media Creation Tool for W10, or the current ISO from MSTechBench. You can use RUFUS to create a bootable flash drive, and then install W10 that way.

You might also want to check the health of your hard drive, to make sure it's not failing.

Hope that helps!

hey, so for no reason as far as i can tell i started having this problem today. my computer was working fine for awhile this morning, but then a bit later when i tried to open firefox the computer froze for no reason. kinda wierd since that has never happened before so i restarted it.

now what happens is it displays an error that says "floppy disk(s) fail (40)" and i have to press F1 to continue. i don't know why it would do this since my computer doesn't have a floppy disk drive.

then when it gets to the screen that shows the windows XP logo and the loading bar at the bottom (the screen before your desktop loads), it works for a few seconds normally. then the little loading bar at the bottom slows down a whole lot and goes really slow... and just stays like that. the computer won't load past that point, it just stays on that screen, with the xp logo and bar going really slowly!

so, has anyone seen this problem before? what should i do? i don't really feel like reformatting again.

i'm running windows xp home edition by the way

Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)

If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.

However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.

I have tried everything I can think of, I have already read through a few other threads with the same issue but none of the fixes work for me.It gets to the acer screen loads that little loading circle then it just goes black... I have tried pushing Alt+F 10 and it got to the acer screen and said "please wait" then the screen went black again. I have installed Windows 8 on a USB drive and have went into the bios and enabled the boot menu as well as change the order of the boot to the USB. This got me a bit closer but still stuck. After about 10 minutes it finally went to a purple screen and a window popped up asking to install. I selected my language and clicked install, it went to another screen that says "setup is starting" and it's been sitting this way for about 20 minutes now. I'm out of ideas. Don't have a clue why this is going on. This is a friend of mines computer, he said he was in the middle of playing a game and the laptop froze then something came up and then it shut off. When it booted up it wouldn't load past the acer screen.

Try booting to Memtest86 you can burn a CD and I think it can also be run from a USB bootable flash drive. This will test your memory for problems and also let you know that the hardware in general will run (except the hard drive which is ignored at this stage. If the memory is good, then boot to your hard drive mfg's utility or Seatools from Seagate (DOS version) the same as Memtest but it tests your hard drive to see if it is just the drive that you cannot install on.If the memory and hard drive tests OK then you may just need to delete all current partitions on the hard drive before trying to install. If the memory does not test good, try cleaning the contacts on the memory with a soft pencil eraser and snapping them in and out 5 or 6 times to also burnish the slot's contacts. Then try memtest again on one stick at a time in case one stick is bad, swap and try again. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Problem is similar to others that have been posted earlier.

On boot sequence, PC hangs on Windows boot screen - with the good old progress bar churning along for eternity. It just stays there. It is possible to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. but never boots up normally. 'Last Known Good..." does not help at all.

I have tried 'repairing' XP using the recovery console (deleting the boot.ini file, then BOOTCFG /REBUILD and then FIXBOOT) to no avail. Do not know where in the boot process it is getting hung up and not totally sure how to determine that.

Using Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2. Plenty of RAM and disk space.

Had this problem once in the past and it seemed to self correct after about 50 reboots. No such luck this time.

Does this sound like a re-install of XP is required or are there any other options that might work?
Cheers, GR

I'm new here and have searched the web but can't seem to find similar symptoms.
I've noticed after performing various updates (either to whatever programs or Windows itself - any ones that require a re-start) that when I re-start my laptop and when the Alienware logo appears, booting basically freezes. I'm only having issues when I restart...even when there are no pending updates to anything.
I tested today and booting actually continues on its own, but VERY slowly.  If I get stuck at this screen and I press my power button, the laptop immediately turns off.  Pressing the power button again boots the machine (to what I consider) normally.  It basically whizzes by the Alienware logo screen and into Windows without issue.  If I fully shutdown, then use the power button to boot up, everything goes normally too.  Re-starting (anytime) is when my issue occurs.

Hey guys,

I've been searching the web for solutions for hours now and won't find anything that works for me. You are kinda like my last hope.

I have a Asus A54C Laptop here (it's my brother's), that won't boot. If I turn it on, it quickly shows the Logo screen and nothing else happens.
If I have a WIN7-DVD in the DVD-drive (created with downloaded ISO, it seems to be working on another laptop), the drive makes some noises but nothing else happens.
If I have a Ubuntu-Live-USB plugged in (worked on this Laptop before), nothing happens.
If I press F2 repeatedly after turning the Laotop on (it's the BIOS-key), nothing happens.

What I've tried
I tried several potential BIOS-keys, although I am 99% sure that F2 is the one.
I tried the turn off, deplug battery and cable, hit power-switch 20 times and for a minute thing.
I tried unplugging the Laptop while it was in the logo screen, hoping this would bring me to BIOS after starting it again.

How I got there
An Ubuntu system has been installed on the Laptop for a while. Now, my brother needed a windows and I wanted to create a dual boot system (what I had succesfully done before).
Some stupid mistakes later, I had a corrupted Win7 and wanted to overwrite it with a fresh install.
I tried to delete the 100MB system reserved partition (in the WIN7-installation menu) because I thought, a fresh install would create a new one. This took about 1 hour (for the 100 MBs) without any visible progress, I finally ... Read more

A:Laptop won't boot (Logo screen),can't boot from USB/DVD or access BIOS

Hello and welcome Joe mate the BIOS key is F2 and this is the manual for that model sorry but I can only access the English version - if you type in what you want to search for it automatically will go to that setting or instruction.

Now if you select the optical as the first boot device and it will not go then maybe it needs a new optical drive - very cheap these days and you may be lucky that it is held in with one screw on the underside of the laptop without any pics it is hard to tell - it possibly could be in that manual.

Now for the BSOD's please use these if you want to get them analysed

My Dell computer is frozen and won't go past the splash screen. Pushing the function buttons for setup or the boot menu doesn't work so I can't change any settings or configurations. Both of these are a bootable diagnostic check. Post back results please .
