Q: Computer won't turn on, motherboard issue? (HP ENVY Sleekboo...

I followed the instructions listed on this page for "performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset". In particular I followed the "Reset a notebook with a sealed or non-removable battery" section as my laptop has a non-removable battery. However, I did all this to no avail. When I release the power button it produces a brief white light and the F12 button with a "wireless" icon (see attached image below) produces an equally brief orange light simultaneously. I don't know what's going on From what I can gather from this thread, it has to do with the motherboard. Please help me! I found that this user experienced a similar, if not identical problem with her or his very own HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1010eo just this month and posted about it, but the thread did not produce an answer. Hi @badbit, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I have read all of your post's that you linked to on the HP Support Forums. I see you are having issues with HP ENVY 6-1010eo Sleekbook not starting correctly. Here is an explanation of the flashing lights. Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows.Plug the power adapter directly into a different wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.Have you tried reseating Memory and the HDD?Please let me know how this goes. Click the Thumbs up to give me a Kudos high five, just to say thanks for trying. Thanks.

Earlier I created a thread in which I had suspected the system panel connections of being faulty, and the reason that my new computer wouldn't turn on, but now I am thinking otherwise. I switched out the motherboard of an older computer I have, and it turned on my computer when I pressed the power on switch on the pront panel. I also switched out my newer motherboard into my older computer case and tried to turn it on, but it would not respond. I did the same for my PSU, switching out an old PSU with my new one in my new case, and vice versa. The PSU isn't the problem, as it turned on when I switched it out to my older computer case (by then I had put my older motherboard back into that case) and it worked perfectly. I now have a sneaking suspicion that my motherboard may be bad, but if it is bad, would the LED light on the motherboard still come on when it is plugged into a PSU?

Please help, I am at wits end and want to finally finish my new computer.

Thanks.

A:Computer still won't turn on, bad motherboard?

You have to make sure you have the proper power supply connectors to the motherboard. Many make the mistake of either forgetting to connect the 4 or 6 pin connector near the CPU, or using the wrong connector

Hi guys please help me to turn this new computer on.
This is a new computer that i installed and it worked for a month until motherboard went faulty. I sent the motherboard back and got a new one but now i still cannot turn it on after i install everything correctly (i hope). The led light on motherboard is at green so it should be receiving power from psu but when i pressed the front panel switch to turn on and nothing happens. After the first few attemps the fans spins for 1 sec then went off. After that few attempts my computer simply does not respond when i press switch.

It shouldn't be a problem with my psu since i just bought a new psu to test and i still having the same problem.
I disconnect everything from motherboard except cpu, heatsink, 1 RAM and PSU but my computer still won't turn on.
I even pull the 2 pin switch wire out of the 2-pin slot on motherboard and try to turn my computer on by using screwdriver to touch the 2-pin slot on motherboard and no luck.
I insert LAN wire into back panel and no light come out.

My spec:
Corsair cx600
Intel CORE I3-2100 3.10GHZ
Asus P8P67 LE
Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 1333MHz DDR3
Coolermaster Elite 330 Case
Sapphire HD 5670 512MB GDDR5
Seagate 320GB SATA-III

Any chance they sent me a faulty motherboard again?
Any help would be grateful

A:Motherboard light on but computer will not turn on

Make sure that the motherboard is not shorting to the case. Place the motherboard outside the case on a piece of cardboard... Install the CPU/heatsink, memory, and video card. There's no need for a hard drive at this point. See if the board posts at all. Make sure you connect the 4 or 6 pin power supply plug to the connector near the CPU

I just bought a new cpu and motherboard and i tool out my old one and put in the noew cpu and motherboard. But the computer wont start at all. I dont know what I did wrong. I connected everything and the light or anything wont even show any sign of power. What can I do to fix this problem?

A:Computer wont turn on after installing new motherboard

Try everything all over again a couple if times.

I know it's annoying but maybe by the third or fourth try you might do something differently which would fix the problem.

This is obviously however some sort of Power Supply + motherboard problem. Try using a different power supply.

My friend accidentally spilt pop into his computer, it shut off, and he then proceded to turn the computer back on. The computer stayed on for a few minutes but then shut off. Once it wouldn't turn on anymore he asked if i could take a look at it.

I originally built the computer for him so I knew his specs and proceded to look at it.

The first thing I did was try turning it on and no go. I looked inside and checked the entire computer for burn / singe marks but I did not see any. I saw some pop residue here and there but it wasn't much, he said only a few drips got inside. He has a 140mm fan on the top of his computer the pop fell through and the fan splashed it everywhere. But I saw barely any pop.

I replaced the power supply with a brand new on and I'm still getting the same problem. I tested the hard drive in another computer and it still works. Graphics card looks fine and im assuming the processor is fine as well but I can't be positive.

Any ideas are welcome, im getting rather flustered.

A:Motherboard shows power but computer will not turn on?

I suspect motherboard is the first place to have a look at; because probability is it may be shorted and need replacement.

By the way in such situations, best course of action is to turn off the PC/notebook immediately and let it completely dry (may take a day or two depending upon conditions) before trying to turn it back on to give its maximum chance to survive.

Hi guys. Big problem here. Yesterday my computer was working just fine. I shut it down without a problem, went to sleep.
Today I wake up, try to turn it on, and it doesn't make a sound. After trying to press the button a few more times, getting over the panic attack, having two shots, and a few advils, I decided to venture into my computer's depths.
The motherboard seems to be getting power, since two leds are turned on when I plug the PSU into the power source, yet when I press the power switch I can see no response. It's not that the PC doesn't boot. No fans start working. Nothing. It's dead.
I've checked the connections to no avail, and I'm thinking about the PSU and the power switch.

I wanted to know if it could be the PSU, since the motherboard does seem to get power and I changed it 3 - 4 months ago. It should be working fine.
What else could it be? The cables into the power switch seem to be glued to the connections so it's hard to check it with a multimeter.
I'd try another PSU, but a cheap PSU over here (Argentina) costs around 6 hours worth of work for me so I'd like to hear your opinion.

A:The computer doesn't turn on, but the motherboard receives energy

Sorry to make you repeat yourself but both the 20/24 pin power connector usually to the right of the cpu and the 4/6 pin power connector to the left of the cpu are definitely clicked in?

Hello there, I was kind of messing around with the video card today and before this, I could turn the computer on easily with the graphics card inside it (mind you it never worked but it turned on) and I never took it off so I don't know abou that.

Yesterday, I took off the video card (for god knows why) and put it back in. I checked everything and it was all plugged in, the video card locked in place and I plugged the power into it. Tried turning on the computer and for no reason I could find, the computer would not turn on. I proceeded to take the video card off and it suddenly worked.

Did I mess up the video card somehow in the process? I can't find anything that I did wrong.

P.S. I installed the video card drivers from their site thinking it would make the video card work and of course, it didn't, now I have an enlarged screen. I know it Is probably the drivers doing this and I have to just uninstall them but...how do I go about doing that?

P.P.S. Computer isn't connected to the internet even though my phone can get it via wi-fi, any help on that?

Sorry for the extra two questions, much thanks!

Hi, my mothers laptop (HP-2133 *Large Battery*) just stopped working.
There have happened a couple of things, so I'll tell it one by one:

- My mother turned on (From hibernation) her laptop one day, and the screen was green.
:My thoughts: I thought that it might be the graphics card that had some kind of error on start up, so I just turned it off and on again. Then it ran like it used to.

- A few hours later the laptop had these random freezes, which made "Force-shutdown" the only possible way of rebooting.
:My thoughts: I thought that this was perhaps a virus, but I never got the chance to run our Anti-virus (Kaspersky Antivirus PRO)

- Now (two days later), when she/I tries/try to turn on the laptop, nothing happens... The laptop powers on, but doesn't actually run the HDD, or even the motherboard for that matter (Doesn't run the BIOS).
:My thoughts: I noticed that the only light that's on, is the power-light, (The HDD doesn't even blink). I also noticed that the screen doesn't even turn on, but the fans actually run (Most likely because the laptop is powered on)

So I can imagine that the motherboard is dead, and in these couple of days, it's shown me that this is it's last days to live.

But before I rip it apart and save the value parts, and scrap the rest, I would like to ask you guys for your opinion.... Do you guys have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance xD

Hello all. I was hoping to get some information on what could be wrong with my computer when turning on. When i booted up this morning i got a weird looking frozen interpretation of my windows log on page
When i turn the computer on the monitor does not boot up. I unplugged everthing and plugged it all back in and tried again. same thing.

I did notice that with the computer completely unplugged, when i connect the monitor, the no-signal box goes away. I would think that the computer would need to be on for it to recieve a signal?

This only happend this morning, so I took the case off, cleaned a little bit and started checking all of the connections. Unfortunately i do not have another monitor to try. I am going to try again in another 2 hours. Anything else i should try?

Thanks in advance

This is the screenshot of when I boot up my PC, I get this screen as it shown in the picture at the moment then it goes black but you can hear the computer is still running. At first I thought I had RAM issues, then I did testing on each ram stick, then found that was not. It's not the HDD because I tested both with the HDD and without it, same display. I thought it was my graphics card, so I decided to buy a new one, same issue.

**side note: I have no idea why my motherboard is displaying the wrong CPU ghz... I never overclocked or toy around my BIOS!

I disconnected my graphics card and connect your monitor to the onboard VGA connector and it goes pass the screenshot as shown and displays normal. So what's the real deal here, when I connect my graphics card, it goes black, without it, it goes through fine.. do I need a new motherboard or is there some other issue? Anyone know? would be great if there's feedback, thanks.

Hello everyone. Recently, my mom (sweet as she is) told me that her computer wont turn on. She usually leaves her computer running, but let me know (after it broke) that it has been mentioning on its case temp monitor that the computer has been getting hot and the light would turn red. She said she 'tried' to turn it off when she saw the warning but never told me about it until now.

I poked around inside and found that the computer wont turn on at all, but there is a green light on the motherboard if the computer is plugged in. Also, the fan on the heat sink for the CPU wasn't spinning because the fan seems to have tilted in its craddle and now wont budge (Perhaps it melted into that position?). My guess is the CPU is fried, but after I plugged the computer in, I put my head close to the motherboard and heard a faint noise coming from the PSU, and I'm not sure if that is normal (don't forget the green light on the motherboard was lit).

Let me check on the specs and I'll give it a post in a minute... thanks in advance for your welcome suggestions

A:I'm stumped: Computer won't turn on, heat issue

I threw the CPU fan away in anticipation of getting a new one.

It is a P5NT-Deluxe (775 Socket) and the PSU is a LSP Ultra 750W ATX Power Supply. These parts are all less than 3 years old, and it has an Nvidia Evga Geforce GTX 280 GPU. I had set the computer a while ago on power saving mode because my mother doesn't game

Any guesses as to what I should do? I don't have much I can swap for to test if something went bad or not. Do you think the board could have fried if the CPU fried on top of it? Do you think I need a new PSU?

Hello,

Today I was replacing a fan in my computer. I turned on the computer to test if it worked. When it worked, I unplugged the power cord instead of shutting down the computer (idiot!) I think in doing so, I fried something.

From that point forward every time I hit the power button on the front of the computer, the light comes on for the power button but absolutely nothing else happens. The fans don't turn on. The power supply fans don't even start. It's like a completely dead computer aside from that power button light.

Thinking it was a dead power supply (it's pretty new, only about 6 months old), I took my computer into a local computer shop to have it tested. The guy said before he had a chance to test the power supply he got it to boot into Windows three times with no problems. I took the computer back home and of course, when I tried to start it nothing happened. It did exactly what I described before.

I made sure the graphics card was placed snuggly and tried to start it again. It booted like normal. I thought I found the problem except that the computer ran for about 10 minutes and then just suddenly shut down- like the power cord had been pulled.

Since then I haven't gotten it to boot. Not even to bios. No fans. Only that power button light.

I've removed each RAM chip I have individually and that didn't solve the problem either. I've checked all connections. Everything's placed right and snug.

Although you did not state an exact model number, the generic PowerSupply (PSU) troubleshooter can be found here. What is bothersome is your description,  as pressing the switch might cause the green light (as stated) to turn - off.  Perform the step-by-step, without skipping anything.  Have the case open, and observe the CPU fan, and rear fan fan.

My fathers HP Envy M6 will not turn on, or charge.   I have the same computer, so I can troubleshoot a few things using mine.  From swapping the simple parts around, I can tell that the battery and charger is still functioning properly.  When plugged in, there is no charge light.  When my good, fully charged battery is put into his computer, it doesn't turn on.  It seems to be compeltely dead. I have tried the reset where you remove the battery, hold the power button for a minute, plug in the power cord and push the power button....it didn't work.  I understand there is a seperate circuit for the power cord.  If this is defective, would it only be charging that is affected?  I put a known fully charged battery in, and still nothing, so if this circuit is defective, would the computer also be non functional on battery power? I'm looking for any suggestions that might help, or point to the defect.

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. Hi, it seems that I keep having problems with my HP envy m6 notebook PC (windows 8). I have had this computer for 2 years and it keeps breaking down on me! I was using it this morning around 9:30 AM, and it was running fine, and it was charged. I turned the computer off, then headed to my class. Once I got out of class I went to turn on my computer and it would not turn on! I tried taking out my battery and putting it back in and turning it on, taking the battery out completely and turn it on with the charger hooked up, I even took out the battery, unplugged it and pressed the power button for a minute then put the battery and charger back in and tried turning it on and still nothing! This is very frusterating as I am a college student and I need this laptop for classes and I can't afford to have my computer break down on me anymore! Will someone please help me?! P.S. My led light when my charger was plugged in was not turning on either, and the power adaptor was not warm when plugged in, I don't know if this is one of the reasons why my computer will not turn on.

This model doesn't have an accessible battery. It is completely dead and will not power on. Should I order a replacement cable or take it in for new battery or repair??

If you leave the power adapter plugged in dose the led stay amber? That means it is charging. Your troubleshooting describes a notebook with too low of a battery charge to boot into Windows. Let it charge for an hour or so before trying to power it on.

I have an HP Envy purchased in November 2013 with a 3-year warranty from HP. (Something I'm very glad I bought, as you will see.) Wonderful machine, worked great until this spring when it wouldn't power on. No lights on the keyboard, completely dead. Sent it to HP, they replaced the motherboard and sent it back. Worked fine for a few days. then the problem resurfaced. Sent it in, they replaced the motherboard again, sent it back. Worked fine for a little while, then one day it was dead again. Sent it in AGAIN. Got it back, worked for a while AGAIN, stopped working AGAIN. Sent it in, got it back again with another new motherboard (they also replaced the lower chassy this time as well). Once again, works for a few days, then DEAD. I don't understand why the motherboard keeps dying. Four bad motherboards in four months seems strange. Surely there must be something else going on. I unplug my laptop every time I turn it off, and also any peripherals - USB, HDMI, even the mouse dongle, to avoid power surge issues. I keep a cooling fan under the laptop to prevent overheating. I don't carry my laptop around with me, due to its size and expense. It just sits on a desk. It hasn't been dropped or had anything spilled on it. Not once in almost three years did I have a problem, and now the motherboard has failed 4 times in 4 months. It seems to me that there must be some problem they're not addressing when they just replace the motherboard. A:hp envy motherboard

Yes agreed, and we might even be able to help you think of something if you told us the model laptop we are talking about here. Given this history I think you have a case to be made for a replacement laptop. There is obviously a component other than the motherboard that is killing the motherboards over and over. The AC adapter is a candidate. Might even be the AC jack cable from the power jack to the motherboard. I think they might not replace that. But they replaced the whole lower chassis so that does not make 100% sense either.

When I came to unplug the charger, the laptop just instantly turned off without warning. I thought this was very odd until I tried to turn the laptop back on to no response at all, no lights, no flashing, no nothing. I thought I'd plug the charger back in again and as soon as I plugged the charger in the light on the power button flashed oncw and then when pressed the laptop loads as if nothing had happened. Obviously when I load up apps such the internet and MS Word it says it wasn't closed properly and asks if I want to restore where I left it at. I have looked at other forums who have suggested battery tests (which come back as ok) and tries to recalibrate the battery but this hasn't solved anything, I have tried use the reset function (hold power and the beats button) but I don't have a beats button. It is all up to date with Windows and HP updates.Obviously being a student I paid good money for this laptop and haven't got the time to be messing around taking back to PCWorld where I bought it from.Any help will be appreciated, Thanks Spudy101

So the power button on my HP detached from the laptop. Long story short, I was boarding back home and hit a rock and fell forward therefore breaking the corner of the power button and shatter the touchscreen. I was still workin fine, except the fact that the screen was shattered and the power chip was dangling out of the laptop. It survived a few weeks before the power chip fell out. I couldnt find the time to go to a store to see what they could do. the only thing keeping it alive was the charging power but I fell asleep with the laptop on. Lucky me. The laptop was working perfectly. I've had it for some time right now. I have ALOT of important files and documents. I was wondering if there was a short-cut or a way I can get my Laptop on without using the power button. I just want to back-up everything i have in the laptop and make a desicion of getting a new one or fixing this one.

I have an HP Envy 15T and my right hinge just broke AGAIN.   I had it fixed by HP in March, 2015, and now about a year and a half later, the right hinge is broken again. As other people state, I am very careful with my computer.  Most of the time I leave it sitting on the desk, open, and don't move it much, but sometimes I have to close the display lid and put it in the case to go with me, and today I heard the plastic break inside, the screw is gone, and when slowly closing the display the case pops open at the hinge.  A piece of black plastic came out when I turned the laptop sideways.  Obviously a design flaw, the weight of the screen and hinges being held together by a tiny plaster piece. I wish HP would let me upgrade to another type of computer as this one is obviously going to continue breaking even with my careful use of the laptop. Looking for any and all assistance. Thank you, Mark

I have an envy m6 touchscreen that is giving me problems that i can't solve. It has been great up until recently. i was using my laptop last nite when suddenly it turned off but i didn't think that the battery shoukd have been dead yet. its acting as if the bat is empty and plugging it in just turn on the orange led by the power plug. when i press the power button it flashes for a second but the screen does nothing and it doesn't actually turn on.I'm using my phone to attempt to find a solution atm which is very frustrating. adding to the stress is the fact that i have school work projects and a midterm project on it that I need to finish.Almost forgot to mention it started doing a few other odd things over the last week such as the touchscreen going nuts registering phantom touches endlessly until i close/hibernate/shutdown it.

A:How do i turn off the Internal speakers on my HP ENVY 23-d02...

Hi, The answer to your question depends on your reasons for wanting to turn off the speakers.  Recently, I noticed that when I plugged my headphones into the headphone output on the Envy 23 I use at work, the music would still play through speakers, annoying my co-workers. I still wanted to be able to listen through headphones, so I plugged the headphones into the speaker output on the back of the computer. Now the music only plays through the headphones. When the compter is viewed from behind, the output is probably near the lower-right corner. It looks just like your headphone output, but has a little icon that looks a little bit like this:(((.))) To listen to your headphones without the speakers playing, plug your headphones into that speaker output on the back of the computer. If, on the other hand, you want to completely shut your speakers down, try this (be warned: this will shut your headphones down as well): Press the Windows + W keys, and type Sound into the search field.Select Sound from the search results. On the Playback tab of the Sound window, double-click Speakers / Headphones. On the General tab of Speakers / Headphones Properties, select Don't use this device (disable) from the Device usage drop-down near the bottom of the window.Click OK

I know this has started to be covered already but the discussion was never finished. This was the original post: I have discovered that the keyboard backlighting won't turn off. The backlight on/off key is labeled as F5. I press it, but nothing happens. I've also tried pressing fn+f5, but that doesn't do anything either. I had been leaving the backlight on, but now I want it to only be on when I press the f5 key. Why won't the backlight turn off? I am having the exact same issue. I followed the instrustions of the helper, which were: Can you please get to the Desktop Screen of Windows by pressing the Windows Key and ?D? keys together and then press the F5 key? As you might know, F5 is used for refreshing a Window/Page. Do you see the Desktop Icons getting refreshed? This is to make sure that the F5 key is working or not?If you got confused with that suggestion, please open MS Word and then press the keys ?Fn? and ?F5? together and let me know whether you get the ?Find and replace? Window? I didn't understand the first part, but the second part I got. I opened Word and pressed Fn and F5 together and can confirm that the 'Find and Replace window appeared. However, I have no idea what to do from here or how to fix the problem, please help me. Also bear in mind please that I am 16 years old and know pretty much nothing about computers. Also, I only got this laptop for Christmas 2015 and am not very familiar with everything yet.

Hello,  This is my first time on this site and I have been having some trouble with my computer.FIrst of all, my computer is the HP Envy 23 Touchsmart PC and its roughly around 3-4 years old. For all this time, it has been working fine without any problems, but one day I was playing a game on my computer and it randomly shut down. At first, I thought I accidentally kicked a cord, so I made sure every cord was in their sockets tightly. Thinking it was a loose cord that caused it to shut down, I tried to turn it on again. Unfortunately, there was no luck.   In furthur investigation on my computer, I noticed my power cord was making a small beeping/chirping noise every 2-3 seconds with its green light flashing on and off in sync with the green light. What I found interesting was when I unplugged the power cord from the computer, the green light would actually stay solid without it blinking or making any noise. When i replug it back in, it continues to blink and make the small beeping noise again. As a computer amateur, I am afraid to open my computer up and try to fix the problem myself. And I was also hoping for some solutions here on this site before bringing it into a store to get it fixed.  I also updated my computer to Windows 10 if any of that matters. Thank you for your time!

The other day I decided to turn my envy off for the first time in roughly a week. I usually just leave it on, plugged into the charger, putting it into sleep mode when im not using it. For some reason, ever since then I have not been able to turn it back on. Whenever I press the power button, The power light blinks. The pattern is a single short blink every 3-5 seconds. This continues until I take the battery out. Sometimes, if I leave it be for a day or so, I am able to get the computer to turn on, but It will not boot. I can hear the fan going, see the lights turn on as they are supposed to, however the screen remains black. I am under the impression that this either a hardware issue, or the CPU is just toast. either of which would suck. Normally I would take to a computer shop and have them look at it, but right now I'm serving in Iraq, so im SOL. And yes, I have tried everything under the sun to get it running. I have taken the battery out and left it out for an extended period, tried turning it on with and without the ac adapter plugged in, tried to perform a hard reset, and a combination of all of them.

Greetings, Hopefully you backed up the important stuff on multiple external media and in the cloud before this happened. Did the power supply failure fry the HDD/SSD or any other components? You can contact HP for service here. HP would have to replace the motherboard and tattoo the MB. This would allow you to use HP Recovery Media to set the system back to factory condition. You would not need a new Windows product key. Did you make or purchase HP Recovery discs prior to this catastrophic event? It appears your PC shipped with Win 8.0. You can order Recovery Media here. HP will reinstall Win 8.0 if you have them replace faulty components and tie the HP factory replacement motherboard to the system chassis number (tattoo). If you replace the motherboard on your own you will have to purchase a new Windows product key. Cheers

Hi there, I am new to the Forum. I hope you can help me.The original Windows was 8 upgraded to 10.I replaced the bottom cover. The Notebook was working fine before. In the proses I disconnected the CMOSS battery, HD, DVD, WiFi adapter, etc. I have done this before many times. Before assembling all back, as I usually do, I performed a quick test. I connected the LCD, memory, CMOSS battery, on/off button board, keyboard and DC charger. When I pressed the on/off button the led on the on/off board turned on, the CPU fan turned on, the HP logo on the back of the LCD turned on, the LCD screen stays black and the caps lock led start blinking once every 2 or 3 seconds.Because this Notebook was Windows 8 and use UEFI I decided to finish the assembling and try again. It responded the same as before.I can?t believe that the MB is bad; it was OK before replacing the bottom cover. Probably something to do with the UEFI/Windows 10 combination??????What I have tried?1-Hard Reset: no battery, no DC charger and pressing on/off button for 15 seconds.2-Disconected the CMOSS battery for several hours.3-Turning on and hitting the Esc, F12,F11,F10? button many times (all the F buttons).

The next day I was able to get it to come back on and it had some boot message, but I didn't have time to read it before it booted. It was on but wouldn't charge. I turned it off to conserve battery a couple more times before it was permanently dead.I have tried hard reset, but I get absolutely no reaction from my computer.I have replace the internal DC power adapter, but the computer stills doesn't respond (also retried hard reset). So the motherboard should be getting power, but my computer doesn't turn on, charge, or blink. It worked initially after dying, so why doesn't it work now? What kind of options do I have? Ok, I just installed a new motherboard and I was pretty sure I hadconnected everything right.

Except the main power doesn't turn on. I don't really know what could be doing this... but I think I could have put the System Panel headers in wrong... I just can't tell if they are in right or no, or if this isn't really the problem at all. The reason I think it is, is that i would have expected the psu to turn on whatever... or could the board be a dud?

This is the motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/product/P4i65G.htm

Attached is a copy of how they should be set. Each of the heads has a side with writing on detailing their name. I have no idea which way this writing should face...? On the reverse side of each head there is a small arrow set to one side...
Any ideas?

The power supply has died. Just because you see green lights doesn't mean the power supply is supplying all the voltages needed by the computer. It could also be the motherboard, we'll go for the power supply first

Probably you have some trouble with the power management settings in XP, but I don't know anything else about it, sorry.
However, there should be an emergency shutdown implemented in your front power switch. Try keeping it pressed until the machine powers down.
Switching it off the way you do is not exactly a healthy option...but I understand your situation, of course.

I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

HI!  My Envy is about 2 years old and I have't had any issues until now.  One day I turned on my computer and it told me the battery was low.  So, I plugged it in and 20 minutes later it said the battery was low again, even though I had plugged it in already.  It says plugged in but not charging.  But, now it doesn't even charge when shut off!  Does anyone know what's going on?

A:HP Envy charging issue

It's old and needs replaced (the battery). They do eventually wear out and often pretty suddenly.

Hi I've got an issue with the left hinge on my HP Envy laptop which means I can no longer close it, it was very tight and as a result has pulled the plastic frame at the bottom of the screen from the top of the laptop. Seems like this is a very common problem but I haven't been able to find any details on how to fix this in the UK, can someone help?. I had the same problem after about 8 months of having the laptop (despite having taken good care of it!) and this was fixed under warranty but it is now out of warranty. As it was only fixed around 9 months ago and I have taken very good care of it since so I would hope that HP would fix this problem for me. I've always though of HP as a reliable brand so its quite disappointing for there to be such a glaring fault with this model. Thanks

I have been checking on these forums since both hinges of the refurbished HP Envy m7 laptop I bought a year and half ago from Newegg. The hinges started pushing out the laptop's bottom not long after the warranty expired and further reading about it it seems that this is a common issue with Envy laptops and I was looking to see if HP would make up for this product defect.

How old is the computer, what was the last change you made to the computer and when you last shut it down did it shut down correctly?

I just put together my first computer 6 months ago. It abruply shutdow in the middle of writing a paper for school. I couldn't turn it back on right away. after trying a few times, it turned on. All the fans are working even the fan on the power supply, the motherboards lights are on. My graphic card in on the motherboard. I think it might be my power supply because when I first put it together I didn't plug in the smaller power connection to the motherboard and the same thing is happening, black screen. It's like my computer isn't giving my monitor any feed. I will have more info when I get home. I can't get in to bios or safe mode.

This computer isn't in-operable. The part of the computer (I guess the lid, not the screen, but where the motherboard is bolted onto) where the hinges are screwed on are completely worn out. The laptop no longer has anything holding down the lid hinges. Where would I get a replacement?

My HP Envy Laptop overheats on a almost daily basis. First of all, here are the specs:- Model: HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC C2L95UA#ABL- AMD A8-4500M APU- Radeon Graphics- 1.9GHZ- 64bit- 8GB RAM memory- Windows 8 (windows rating 4.9) The problem is that whenever I run any games (not even especially graphically intensive ones such as Crysis 3 or Skyrim) it overheats. Sometimes it takes less time to overheat, sometimes more. It normlly takes around 15-20 minutes to overheat. Following the overheat it shuts down and I have to reboot it. I normally play such games on a flat, wooden table. Nothing is blocking the ventilation port. The computer also has other issues such as constant lag even in normal operation, extremely slow application start-up (Google Chrome, Steam, even File Explorer). Sometimes I try to put the laptop suspended on two wooden blocks so it doesn't actually touch the table and even that doesn't work.  Is there any way to prevent this incredibly annoying overheating issue? Thanks for helping

A:HP Envy CONSTANT OVERHEATING ISSUE

There are a few things to do for managing heat-related problems.1. Update your system BIOS. (Link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61001-61500/sp61006.exe )2. Utilize a cooling pad to keep your PC cooler during gameplay.3. Make sure vents are clear by using C02 to clear debris. This document also provides some advice: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01657439

Hello everyone, I am trying to fix my friends HP Envy M6 notebook. he upgraded it to 8.1 and now when the computers starts up the desktop loads but then the screen starts to flash between a black screen and a empty desktop. he has a lot of files and software that he can't afford to lose so I really don't want to do a PC Repair if I don't have to. I'm guessing it has to do something with the video driver. I have tried booting into safe mode but it does the same thing in that. Can anyone offer any assistance here?? Thanks in advance for everyone's help!!!

A:HP Envy M6 startup issue after 8.1 Update

Hardware can always be replaced. Software can always be reinstalled. Data that is lost is lost forever.

If the Data on your friend's computer is of great value to your friend then you may consider saving the Data before you do anything else. If the Notebook is not currently usable then the only safe way to save the Data is to remove the HDD and transfer the Data to another HDD.

This is a relatively easy task - much easier than recreating the Data...

Below are instructions telling you how to remove the HDD. When the HDD is out all you then need is a SATA to USB patch cable which will facilitate Copying the Data to another computer or to an online storage facility.

Once you have done that you will feel a whole lot happier about "fixing" the problem.

My laptop doesn't shutdown properly. Every time I shut it down, the screen goes off, but the power button light indicates it's still on. And from there nothing can be done. I can't even turn on my laptop again. One solution I found is to force shutdown & turn it on again. Another solution I found is to restart the laptop & then shut it down. Can anyone provide me a permanent solution to this?

Hi,I'm new on this forum and that's my first post, I will make it quick and simple:I bought HP envy dv4 5200 laptop, and when I tried to listen some music on it, I discover that there is almost no sound like subwoofer from the place where that subwoofer should be, it plays more  like two other speakers, I tried some drivers for fixing it but nothing helps, I have windows 8.1 pro 32bit and maybe that every driver that I found was for 64 bit system can be a problem because It wasn't 100% compatible with my system,so please If someone can provide me a link for drivers for this laptop and system I will be very grateful. Thanks

Printer did print out fine after setup with nformation about the setup but after setup information had finished being completed and customer attempted to print off mac nothing would print. After reviewing the paperwork printed relating to the setup procedure nothing was found to be wrong.

After a windows auto update my touchscreen no longer responds. I think it is a driver issue. My windows is INSISTING that the best driver is this generic driver from 2006. The display also shows up in the wrong place in the device manager. It's not in the HID list. I'm also having issues with the wireless since an update. It, for lack of a better term, stutters. Other devices will connect just fine and stay connected. But this laptop will drop the connection or simply not 'see' the network. Any help is appreciated.

I've seen tons of post regarding the left hinge issue on the envy 17.  I also have this problem, have replaced two fans due to the plastic part the hings screws into break ing and getting into the fan.   Also I'm beyond the waranty period.  Havs HP created a repair kit or replacement case with better design to fix my laptop issue?   Laptop is only 2 years old.  I hope HP will stand behind their product and help customers with this issue

Hi, I purchased a Envy m6 in 2013 (now out of warranty).  Approximately 1 year ago I noticed the plastic hinges  would make a slight noise when opening the screen to 90degrees. I soon noticed the right plastic hinge was cracked and when open the black screen surround would be separating from the silver outside cover. After time it had progessed to separating the screen approximately 1-2cm. I have never dropped or damaged this laptop, and has had very minimal use over the last 3 years. I used to be able to click the screen back together when closing the lid quite easily. As of today it is very difficult to push the screen back together when closed. I have seen many posts on the internet about this problem. Does hp fix this problem? This laptop doesnt even leave the computer desk. Hardly gets used, maybe a handful of times a month for no more than 1hour at a time.

Sadly, my HP ENVY m6-1350sf Notebook PC that I purchased in April 2014 with Best Buy needs the right hinge I believe needs replacing and now the casing on the screen is starting to pull apart. Obviously I'm way beyond the warranty but I am willing to pay HP to fix my poor laptop whom has travelled all around the world with me since it was brand new. I don't trust Geek Squad to fix it locally - they ruined my Lenovo in 2012 when the casing started coming apart by super gluing it back together. Please help ...

The left hinge and case on my laptop are not working properly.  The screw on the case seems stripped.  The case pries open when the laptop is opened creating a gap over 1/4".  There is an existing forum with many reports of the same issue on different models of laptops.  Has this been recalled or can I simply purchase the bottom piece of the case and replace it on my own?  My machine is 2 yrs old and not under warranty.  I am concerned that the hinge might break or that the screen or other components may have issues if this is not fixed soon.  The machine has never been dropped or bumped.
