Hey hey internet,  I have been thinking about upgrading my usb ports on my probook and wanted to know if anyone has had a go at it and if so, how'd they get on and where did they start? Also, more importantly, if it is actually possible to do, I know the 4530 was able to support usb 3 and figured it should be fine for the 4730 but always good to check, right?  Thanks in advance and hope all is well with you fine people

Hi: There can be one of many different model wireless cards installed in your notebook. Look on the bottom of the notebook, and there should be a sticker with an FCC-ID. Post the FCC-ID, so I can figure out what model wireless network card your notebook comes with.

Good Evening All,Tech-Xcellent here, I have a HP Probook 4730s with Windows 10 installed. Before the installation, I upgraded the BIOS & required drivers, installed the update, updated the newly installed Windows 10, did the customary reboot and 'blank screen'. The laptop itself is making noise like it's busy doing something, but there is no display. I have connected via HDMI a secondary screen and still nothing. It reaches the first 'windows' logo with the loading thingy underneath it, disappears and goes 'blank', I have no error code's, I cannot access 'safe-mode' and have been through all the recovery options, none of which worked (except the return to a working restore point), but it's moot as the system updates again and reboots and nothing, again!. I have it connected to power the entire time, I was running Windows 8.1 x64 rather well prior to this Windows 10 issue. Any suggestions? I have tired everything possible to solve this.Thank you, - Tech-Xcellent.

Hello, I was struggling with AMD drivers for some time now. As we all know HP did not upgrade video drivers. Last update was in 2012. Since then, nothing. So, lets start. 1. Best thing is having a clean Windows 7 64bit install.2. Fist we need to download and install basic drivers for our laptop from HP website http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5060894&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4058 (choose your operating system)3. First chipset - all drivers. Skip Graphic drivers for now, install all others for ethernet, wifi, touchpad etc.4. NOW - go to intel website https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81502/Intel-HD-Graphics-2000-for-2nd-Generation-Intel-Core-... and download Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8-64-bit or 32 depends on your system.5. Install it. You will need to reboot your machine. CREATE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT NOW! Just in case something goes wrong. 6. Go to HP drivers website and now download and install ATI Video Driver and Control Panel (International)  8.91-111013A-132348C 30 Jan 2012 version. Reboot.7. Click right click on the desktop and see if in the menu you have graphic switching method listed ( top, under Graphic properties from AMD ). If yes click and CCC control panel will open. 8. Choose maximum performance mode. This will enable the AMD graphic card.9. Google and download Catalyst_14.4_WHQL_UnifL_v2.4 file should have 425,817 KB ( 425 MB )10. Double click to unpack. Hi, I'm a field service tech with a frustrating problem.  HP Probook 640 G1, initial customer complaint was that the system will charge battery when turned OFF and plugged in, but system will not charge battery or use wall power when turned ON. Battery and power cable were replaced; no change.  Conclusion at that point was a problem existed between the power cord and power connector on the system board; thus the system board was replaced.  Since then, the laptop will not power up at all, on battery or when plugged into the wall.  Today I replaced the power button board, and got the same symptoms, but noticed that when I press the power button, the battery indicator LED blinks nine times and stops; nothing else happens.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Got a Probook 470 G1 that doesn't want to power up. The small LED beside the power input socket is flashing constantly on and off (white). I've tried removing the battery and holding down the power key as recommended but to no avail. Also tried powering it up without the battery, but still only get the flashing white led. According to one forum, the flashing white led is a sign of a battery straight out of the factory that needs charged. The laptop was working fine until a couple of days ago.  I inadvertently left it on all day with a powerbank connected to the usb.  I'd thought it was my mobile phone that I'd plugged in. Is it possible that connecting the powerbank had damaged the battery? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi, I was working on my HP probook 6560b last week and i set it to Sleep after an hour during which time i also slept. I woke up the following day but my laptop refused to wake up, the charging light (bolt indicator) will be flashing whenever i connect the power supply or the battery. I have removed both battery and power supply and press the power button for approximately 20sec without success. An urgent help is needed to resolve this as soon as possible. Thank you in anticipation.

A:HP Probook 6560b won't power on

We've had a similar issue with our Probooks.  Below are troubleshooting steps we've taken: Removed batteryPlugged in (via power cord)Turned on. Fan running. NO video. Caps light blinking. Can't ping.No response to Ctrl-Alt-DelNo response to pressing/holding power buttonUnplugged. Plugged back in.Turned on. Boots OK. Logged in.Replaced battery. Turned on again. All appears OK.Nothing in the event logs to indicate a critical failure. We've had these steps work for some of the laptops, but others simply offer no response at all.  Then HP sends a box for us to ship laptop for repair and they replace the system board. Of the 250+ of these we've ordered, I'd say we're looking at a 5% fail rate so far (they're 2 months old).

I have a Probook 6470 that I was using regularly until the hard drive died. I did not get around to replacing the hard drive until this week and in the meantime the unit sat, disconnected from the ac adapted but with the batter still in, for aproximately 2 months. After installing a new, unformatted drive I went to power the unit on and all I received was a blinking white light on the led panel. I have tried disconnecting the ac, taking out the battery, holding power for 30 seconds, and plugging the ac back in to no avail. I have reseated all memory and disconnected / reconnected the keyboard to no avail. If the battery is in place or not, the unit will only flash a white light when the power button is pushed.  Beginning to wonder if it is not the battery but I have yet to be able to confirm wether or not the system will power on with the battery removed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Power adapter voltage is constant @ 19vdc. When plugged into the laptop the power led starts to cycle at one second rate. Battery is not charging and computer is not affected by pushing the power button. Hard reset performed without any results. Memory contacts cleaned and re-installed, SSD installed in another ProBook - works great. Power is being received at the end of the cable where it plugs into the motherboard. Power push button functions up to the motherboard connector. What next?  Blivit_it

A couple of days ago my laptop decided not to charge.  I keep it in one spot and haven't unplugged it for a few months, and it's run fine.  I was busy with work so I wasn't able to give this the attention it needed before all the power drained. The hardware is 100% stock; I have not gotten a new battery or new charger.  I have made sure that the outlet I'm using functions.  Since it's used so little/gently, physical damage seems extremely unlikely. Now whenever I try to plug it in and turn it on, no lights or anything.  Occasionally a light will flash and I can get it to try to boot, but it'll power down shortly after the System Recovery screen.  A couple nights ago I managed to get it to boot and could watch Netflix, but sometime later it powered down again. I removed the battery and plugged the charger back in, there was a flash of light and I made it as far as the System Recovery screen again, but to no avail.  Now trying to boot with or without battery, or plugging the charger in with or without battery, does nothing. I have attempted a hard reset as described here, still no lights and unable to power up to BIOS.

Remove all Peripherals and Cables, Disconnect them and try to Power ON the Unit 2. Check for LED Light Status and ensure Power Button spring action is normal 3. Swap with a known good Power Cord and Power Adapter 4. Incase no Adapter is available, Check if the Power Adapter is slightly warmNote: This will give us a hint that the Power Adapter might be fine 5. Do you know if the Notebook was in Battery or Power Adapter Mode when you used it for the last timeNote: Ensure there is no liquid spillage or Power Outage 6. Hello all, I have an HP ProBook 6565b that will not power on at all; no screen activity, no booting to BIOS, no fans starting, no HDD's spinning... nothing. The symptoms that I'm seeing are as follows: - No lights come on at all when on battery power. - On AC power, the only keyboard area lights that appear is the power button stays steadily on (no blinking, just stays on).  - On AC power, the only 'front' lights that appear is the Power LED (stays steady on) and the 'lightning' LED (stays steady on, but blinks 1x-2x a second; I'm assuming a 2nd LED or higher brightness blinking).I have a feeling this is a hardware power issue, but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it very far. I've tried the following:Removed the battery and powered it up =no start/no lights (see above)Connected it to AC power and powered it up =no start/no lights (see above)Removed the battery, pressed and held the power button for 30 seconds, re-inserted the battery, and tried powering on (with AC, same lights as above; with battery = no start/no lights)Any advice? Thoughts? The laptop is out of warranty, so that's unfortunately not an option.

Q: 4730s

I have a Probook 4730s which has Protectools on it version 5.10.18.  I do not have a fingerprint scanner but I keep getting a biometric notice when I start the machine.  Since I don't have the scanner I want to disable it.  But everything I can find talks about a green check mark to do that but the Security Manager doesn't show any kind of check marks.  I tried installing a newer version but says it can't install because the drive is encrypted.  Again no way to unencrypt drive.  I am frustrated to the point I want to uninstall Protectools but it doesn't show up in installed programs et cetera so I can't uninstall it either. HELP!

Dual graphics in laptop HP ProBook 455 G1Hello! I have a problem. I have laptop HP probook 455 G1 with dual graphics. integrated( AMD Radeon HD 7640G)+  discrete (AMD Radeon HD 8750M). I want to install the latest drivers. but what do I do if the discrete supports them, and integration - no.? And how to properly install the driver? Thanks

A:HP Probook 455 G1

Install the AMD driver that is available at the HP Support portal. (If there is not one available, leave the driver installation as it is, unless you mind that it stops working.) It contains the AMD and Intel driver. Do not install the Intel driver seperately. If you do install it seperately, the switchable  grapgics function will no longer operate as expected.

Hi: Your notebook is not supported by HP for W8, W8.1 or W10. The missing devices have no bearing on why the audio is not working. You use the windows 7 drivers for the base system and pci simple comms controller devices. The base system device needs this driver. This package contains the Ricoh Media Card Reader Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Ricoh Media Card Reader driver enables the integrated media card slot. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46501-47000/sp46999.exe The PCI Simple Comms Controller needs this driver... This package provides the Intel Management Engine Components Driver and Interface. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59684.exe What is the problem with the audio?  No sound at all? First see if the W7 driver works for the audio too...install and restart the PC. This package contains the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver for the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems.  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48147.exe If that doesn't fix the sound, I have one other thing you can try.

I am interested in buying one of these devices however I have some questions: Is there a WWAN module on the Australian version and if not, is there a SIM slot that can be used with 3rd party add-in card? Does the motherboard chipset support USB 3.1, contrary to the specifications listed on the website, i.e. is it the Union Point 200 chipset? Also, there is no information regarding Discrete Graphics, so is the NV-930MX(2GB) actually included? The internal drives are listed as 500GB however the online store says it is 1TB. I'd appreciate some clarification on this as I'd like to know what I am purchasing. Thank you References: http://www8.hp.com/au/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=10477368#!tab=specs http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=Z3Y53PA&opt=&sel=NTB

I was trying to restore the factory settings to get rid of some unwanted software I couldn't delete. The recovery process kept failing. Now when I try to start the laptop it says there is no operating system installed. I want to download a recovery cd on my other laptop, write it to a cd/DVD disc, and restore the laptop from this recovery disk, can I download the files needed to do this anywhere. I will buy one if necessary but would obviously prefer a free version. The laptop is around 12 months old, may be just over, may be just under.

I bought this probook used, it turns on & runs okay on the AC charger/adapter, but will not turn on or run on just the battery alone. . The battery says it is charging ok and  is now 100% charged , it still will not turn on without the adapter. Is this a laptop problem or could it be a bad battery?

Hello everyone, So i have a problem with my HP ProBook 4320s, it won't turn on. Here's whats happening when i try to turn it on. When i have the battery in without the recharger and i try to turn it on, the orange LED light for the recharger blinks 8 times and same when i have battery in with recharger plugged in. Note, the orange LED light should stay on when recharger is plugged in and it's recharging the laptop. Now, when i have the battery out and the recharge plugged. The orange LED light doesn't even turn on at all.  Now here's what i have done. I did a hard reset, which i unplugged the recharger and removed the battery from the laptop. I then held down the power button for 60 seconds and after that i plugged in the recharger without the battery and attempted to turn on the laptop. Nothing happens and the oranged LED light doesn't turn on. I then left the recharger plugged in and this time inserted the battery. The laptop still won't turn on but the orange LED light blinks 8 times. Now i've tried this with 2 different recharger and same result above. I can confirm that the 2 recharger is working because the 2 recharger works with my other HP laptop, meaning it was able to recharge my other HP laptop.  My other HP laptop also shares the same recharger as the HP ProBook 4320s by the way.  What i've also done is, i've opened the HP ProBook laptop, took out the RAM and reinserted the RAM and tried the above and same result. I did this... Read more

Hello everyone! I have HP ProBook 440 G3 (X0N42EA) with Windows 8.1 x64 installed on M.2 SSD 256 GB TLC (SanDisk X400 if it is important), which is installed in my notebook from the factory. Win 8.1 was upgraded from Win 7, which was installed from the factory also. This model has both M.2 and SATA sockets. So in my case I have a free SATA socket. I want to upgrade notebook's storage volume adding a 2.5 512 GB SSD (SanDisk X400 also, if it is important also). I insert new SSD, start the PC and get an error message, that boot device not found and I have to install an operating system.OK. I set up in the BIOS (UEFI interface actually) UEFI boot order: 1st - USB; 2nd - M.2; 3rd - SATA. And for legacy boot order I have only two options, which are also set up respectively: 1st - USB; 2nd - M.2. New SATA SSD volume even doesn't display in legacy boot order options. I save changes and reboot PC and have same situation, same message.I try different ways: checking only UEFI boot order, only legacy boot order, checking both of it - no results. Even when I choose M.2 directly for boot via F9 button - no changes. When I unmount new SSD from notebook, PC starts normally, everything is OK.Both M.2 and SATA SSD are MBR partitions, if it is important. Does anybody know how to mount SSD into SATA socket and make PC boot system from M.2 SSD? Thanks in advance!

Ok, so we have decided to try a newer modle of the hp ProBooks not knowing that they cannot connect to the preivious docking stations we had purchased. After research we have found they work with the port replicator(usb3.0 HP)all seemed well until i get a service ticket inquiring about the freezing issues, After checking the drivers and more recent version of the bios still no dice. I had opened the laptop(we keep them closed initally-obviously lol for the docks) and the laptop it self was unresponcive, ctrl alt del did nothing nor did the curser move.- I am running the ProBook 450 G3 no hardware changes- most recent updates and drivers- Windows 10- HP Port Replicator is new and functioning- 1 pissed off employee

It is hard to tell from your comments where your issue is at this time. In terms of the usb 3.0 dock, i believe it requires displaylink drivers, which should be available as a softpaq from HP. Did you install them on your laptop?

I am having a strange issue.  I have 2 Probook 655 G2 that are shutting themselves off and overheating regularly, the fans run constantly it seems but when I feel the vents the chasis does not feel unusually hot.   When they were new with Windows 7 there was no problem, the problem only arises after I upgrade them to Windows 10.  I have gone through and done all of the windows updates available, have all of the latest drivers on from HP, the latest BIOS.  I even sent one of them into HP Depot twice for repair and they report no problems.  I am not sure where else to look so any help or suggestions woudl be much appreciated. Thanks

So yesterday I opened my Probook 4540s, and it was at 0% charge (The OS literaly displayed that), which was weird. I tried playing with it a little, I've connected it to a charger, and it did not detect it - and eventually the probook shut down.At this moment the laptop won't turn on, and my guess is it's either the power brick, or the motherboard. I tried replacing the power cable connected to the brick but it didn't quite help. When the power cord is connected to the laptop, the LED blinks each second, but its a weird blink, like not on\off, it's turning on, blinking, turning on, blinking etc, but the laptop isn't charged, it wont start with either the battery connected or without it. Tried hard resetting, didnt work either.Does that sound like more of a motherboard issue? If so, what could I do to fix it? Should it be expensive?

A:HP Probook won't start

mjs0623 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!If that is not bad enough, the Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Recovery-Manager-Blocked-After-Windo... Ordinarily, I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. Hi,I've twice had to exchange a Probook 450 G3, for additional reasons also (faulty power connector), so have had experience with 3 units altogether. All 3 had the same issue, the fan would kick in too often, a few instances a minute, making an up and down whirring sound which was very annoying and distracting. The strange thing is that the fan would kick in when the CPU usage was minimal, <5%, web browsing is the most taxing thing I do, no gaming or intense graphic applications.Never had an issue like this with any other laptop/computer, it's basically brand new so no possibility of dust, too hot environment etc. My 8 year old Dell laptop with much more inferior specs handles these activities easily with infrequent fan noise/activity.The laptop is not getting noticeably hot for the fan to turn on and off so often. Is the G3 so heat inefficient that the CPU gets too hot very easily, or is the fan's thermal sensor temp. range too low and the fan is kicking in unnecessarily? I've updated the BIOS and chipset and already contacted HP support who want me to send it to them, but I explained that this issue happened on all 3 units, revealing that the model design/components could be at fault.Would appreciate any insight/explanation for this.

About two weeks ago I bought an HP Probook 4710s. Everything was fine until about 2-3 days ago. I was playing a game on my computer when it randomly turned off. I tried powering it back on and it shut off within two seconds. It felt a little hot so I went to bed and it worked fine the next day. The next day I didn't play any games and I was just using it normally, (browser, yahoo and aol messanger) and it shut off again. It didn't feel as hot this time. Finally, this morning I was watching TV and put down laptop to get a drink and when I got back a minute later my computer had shut off. This time it was not very hot at all. I've been googling things but haven't really been able to find any answers. I don't know if it is a hardware issue, or lack of updates of some sort, or If i got a bug that makes my computer think it's overheating and shut down. It's pretty annoying since I JUST got this computer. Any information in the right direction is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello

Please help me with a problem :
I have conected my laptop with tv and home cinema by hdmi but is working only 2.1
If i go on control panel -sound - ati hdmi output -configure the only option is stereo.
How i can configure to go 5.1 ?

thanks

A:5.1 on hp probook 4720s

On many systems, two channel stereo is all that is available. It can be hardware limitations and with a laptop there isn't much you can do.

I can't find anything on HP or other sites to confirm just stereo, but if that is all you are getting I suspect that is it. This is sold as a "business" laptop so it may not have all the Media features a "non business" or "consumer" model may have.

Hey guys, I recently bought ProBook 450 G3 with i3 Skylake processor and 256GB SSD. Dont get me wrong, it is well crafted machine, but one thing gets on my nerves. Due tu specs, I did expect almost complete silence. However, when I am broswing, or even doinn simple things in Office, the fan countinously goes very loudly on and off, for a short period of time (5 sec.) without any reason. The notebooks temperature in that situation is around 40C, but I believe it is not the main factor, since not always when the laptop is over 40C fan kicks in. I mean, it is irregular and I am not able to pinpoint the cause, mainly because there may not be any. As the fan noise is very hearable, it makes working on this laptop in quiet enviroment kind of annoying. I have to add that all drivers and BIOS updated and no obstales are near the vent.  I also tried various power plans etc. Basically all to minimize that behaviour but it still occurs.  Any idea how to solve this is more than appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would like to upgrade the Probook 440 G3 with a secondary storage a  2,5 500 GB SSD.In this notebook primary storage is a 256 GB SSD M.2.Is it possible the installation of both without removing the first  256 GB SSD M.2  (SSD M.2 Primary storage + SSD 2,5 Secondary storage)? If yes is it necessary to buy the Hard drive Hardware Kit (includes bracket and screws)? Thank you

A:Probook 440 G3 SSD Upgrade

See p. 35 of the Manual here: Service Manual There is a SATA hard drive bay and it looks like the SATA connectors on the drive plug directly into the motherboard. The M.2 slot is at right angles and above the hard drive bay so yes, you can have both a 2.5 inch SATA SSD and also the M.2 mSSD. You can just add in the 2.5 inch SATA SSD (or hard drive) and you really do need the hard drive mounting kit otherwise the hard drive will rattle around in the bay and that is not good for the laptop or the drive.  Hard Drive Hardware Kit, includes: 826382-001 http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?type=PROD&SearchText=T8Y22US When you install the SSD or HDD storage drive you will have to initialize and mount it (assign a drive letter) in disk management. I need the one with four screws. I hope one of you can help me to find the right one what will fit in my notebook. BrokenWing PS: I am located in The Netherlands.

I'd like to install an M.2 SSD as a boot drive in my Probook 640 but I can't find the slot. Does anyone have an schematics or pictures to share? The only open slot I can find is over the WLAN module (I believe it is used for the optional broadband module). The socket does not seem compatible with an M.2 drive. Thanks! G.

Hi: You need this driver for that device... This package provides the Intel Smart Connect Technology driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system. The Intel Smart Connect Technology driver enables the system to resume from sleep mode and update supported web applications such as email. The system enters sleep after the update is completed.  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp69501-70000/sp69923.exe

Hey, this Is my first time posting probably ever in any forum.  Im not a genius when it comes to computers, but I more than get buy.  I have a home studio that I have had for almost 4 years now.  I bought my laptop new for this purpose also 4 years ago.  I needed firewire and couldn't quite afford a macbook or imac plus I am familiar with windows OS.  I could of went with a hub of some sort but my desktops were already full of stuff.  Anyways I bought the HP Probook 6465b after the store owner swearing it would function just as good as a macbook. IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE!  I guess simply for the fact of not going with an intel chip.  My Question, Is there an upgrade im unaware of or a part or two I can buy to fix these issues cheaper than a used macbook or laptop on windows garaunteed to functionas needed?

Hey all, Nice forum and really have found a lot of useful info here but still need help. My 650 G1 started showing Plugged in / Not Charging.  I found the following link on HP but when I try to run the SP / BIOS update, it tells me that this update (SP67772) is stepping back from what I currently have on this laptop.  Do I do this anyway or is there some other update that needs to be done and I keep my current version? http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c05058319 It was purchased earlier this year and is still under warranty but when I try to do an on-line chat, it tells me that the serial # is not valid but I know it is. Anyway, any help that you all could send my way would be appreciated. Thanks.Frank
