After shutdown my laptop doesn't boot up but battery light is on while charging and my charging USB port is also working.

Hello, I am in need of a bit of help. I have a old Gateway 7510GX notebook that wont charge, and will only run if plugged in to the wall. I am 99% sure that the charging circuit has gone bad, because the charge indicator icon stays at 66 percent for ever.
Do you think I should open up the laptop and check the board for burnt components, or what?
Also, External battery chargers for laptops go for big $$$. So would it be possible to remove the cells and hook them to a external charger. (I have a slow charger made for RC Li-Ion batteries that I think would be perfect).
when i plug power cord in the led light turns blue like its starting to charge then turns orange and wont powr up. when i move the cord around it turns blue and then starts blinking orange again. please help...More replies

Hello, I am new to the forum. I am having trouble turning on my computer. Its a hp g62 laptop computer. YYesterday, I took out the battery and then put it back in and I could get it up using safe mode. Today i turned it on and it went right on, everything worked great. Then when the screen went black because i was doing something else, i came back it looks like the same problem but it's not turning the sscreen on. I tried what I thought I did with the battery and the screen isntisn't coming on. Can any of you help? I have a business letter due tomorrow and iI am stuck. Thanks, sharmonyrose
Honestly, there isn't much that you can do.
Shine a light on the screen and look to see if the desktop is actually there, just very faint. If so, the screen backlight has failed. Otherwise, it simply sounds like a hardware fault. Most likely with the video chipset. If you have a monitor, you could try connecting it to the laptop video output.
So last night i had my laptop running with the charger pluggen in and before i went to bed i just locked it by pressing Windows + L. I dimmed the screen to lowest which is basically black. This morning i woke up and the laptop was completely off. There was no sign of it charging and it wasnt on. There were no lights on whatsoever. I unplugged the charger and put it back in. I took the battery out and put it back it. Still no sign of it turning on or being able to charge. Any suggestions? ThanksMore replies

Hi I made a thread yesterday regarding a minor PC problem I had while trying to install windows XP on my uncles PC the problem was solved thankfully.
I now have an even bigger problem of my own with my PC.
I turned my PC on in the evening and the monitor screen was blank and displayed a blinking orange light, the fan does come on. I doubled checked the wires to see if any were loose but everything is inserted correctly.
What’s weird is the PC that I was installing windows on yesterday was doing the same thing but once you turn it off and turn it back on it would be fine and load windows.
But my one is not even doing that, there is nothing wrong with the monitor has I have brought it recently and I also checked the PC using my brother’s monitor and the same thing happens.
Once I finished installing windows on my uncles PC I turned my PC on and watched highlights of a soccer game so it actually was working last night. But I have no clue as to what has happened?
Can someone please help me?

Hi everyone, I have an HP notebook 15-ac151dx, which I bought from Amazon. After 2 months, It doesn't turn on, I have tried the hard reset, (unplug the battery and charger, and press and hold the power button a minute). I don't know what else I can do.I'd like to get an email address, or contact to get my problem solved, I'm actually in Venezuela, I got the laptop from Amazon in US, and it has waranty. But the technical support from here (Venezuela) told me, they can do nothing with my problem, because they don't have any replacement part (which is crazy becuase they don't even know exatcly which is the problem with the laptop) and they can't send the laptop to the US.Every time I try to contact US HP support directly, I get redirected to Venezuela HP support, and theirs solutions is that I have to go to the US, or find the way to send the laptop to the US and find the way to send it back later, which is so expensive for me. I bought this HP product, expecting a high quality product, because of the great reputation HP has as a company, but it has been so difficult to find a comunication channel where I could be trated promptly. My laptop information:Serial: CND6023M12Product: T0D84UA#ABAWaranty: 1y1y0yModel: 15-ac151dx I hope you guys can give me som orientation, about what can I do.More replies

Hello,My *dead* laptop isn't charging. When I plug the laptop adapter charger in, the white light next to the charging port doesn't light up which it usually does when it is charging. I've checked the battery by plugging it in without the battery and it still doesn't work so I guess the battery is fine. I've checked for kinks in the wire and there are none. I've changed the fuse in the plug and it still doesn't work. I've plugged it in the wall sockets instead of the extension lead I usually use and it didn't work. All the connections and secure and the charging port is secure also - not loose or anything.I still have 5 months left of my warranty, do you think I would be able to get a new laptop adapter? I bought this laptop earlier this year so it's still fairly new.ThanksMore replies
I have a Gateway w730-k8x, running XP. I ran the battery down, then plugged in power cord, but got no action. Took battery out, still wouldn't turn on with power plugged in. Waited a day (traveling). Tried again and am getting only 5 seconds of flashing battery charge light then nothing. Again with battery out, no response. Any ideas?
I ordered a new power adapter. I'll see if that is the problem.
I acquired a used HP Compaq 8701w laptop a few months ago.
I recently noticed that the battery charge light doesn't come on. (I didn't notice this initially because I set it up as a desktop with exterior monitors and never unplugged it from the dock...I wanted to use it in my bedroom last night so I became aware of the issue then)
I ran a check on the battery and it tested good.
The software shows charge is 100% but when I unplug the laptop from the docking station it will not run off battery.
I tested the battery with HP Battery Check and it tested good.
I tried the following solution I found on HP forums:
hold power for 30 seconds
plug into AC
power back up
I tried an uninstall of the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver with no change at reboot.
I also tried using a different battery that I know to be discharged and the software shows it at 0% so it's not my software incorrectly reading a full battery.
The charge indicator did not come on for either battery I put in.
Laptop runs fine off AC power plug

Hi kannmoore and welcome to TSG.
It looks like there's a problem inside the laptop. To check try charging a known working battery overnight.
If the above doesn't work can you power the laptop directly without using the Docking Station ? If you can try that as well to see if it makes any difference.
The battery won't charge unless the plugged in cable is held at an angle. This started after the warranty had expired. I already purchased a new charger and it didn't solve the problem.More replies
My gateway ID49C07u laptop will not turn on. It was working fine just last night and I tried turning it on this morning and I get nothing. I'm confused on what the problem is because the charge light on the front of my computer is blue (charged).
Any help is appreciated
Have you tried running it off just the battery? Also try running it with the Battery removed and just using the Power Adapter.
I think I had been trying to fix this laptop for the last few months but was really stil not finding the root of the problem. Basically i had a problem with being able to charge my laptop when on or off. When it is on, the charge light will keep blinking but when it is off, it will flicker every 7 seconds. I had remove the battery and tried with the ac only and it does the same thing.
I also had replaced the dc jack and problem was not solved. My only guess is the ac adapter but I wonder if anyone have had the same issue like I am and hoping it was the ac adapter. I really do not want to buy an ac adapter and later on to find that it was not it but the motherboard so it will be a waste of money.'
Any suggestions or inputs will be appreciated.
You are definitely right...! Finally, it works again after I bought a new AC adapter. So the real culprit is the AC adapter. Anyone who has the same symptoms as I did, please make sure you suspect your ac adapter first before tearing apart your laptop. Good luck!!
My hp laptop, less than 5 years old, won't turn on. Before this happened, Everytime I used it, the fan was really loud and it would overheat just from being on my lap. Now when I press the power button, the wireless light is the only one that lights up - no sounds or lights otherwise. The indicator light when it's plugged in is a solid white.I've removed the battery, took out power plug, held down power button, and no luck. I ordered a new battery and had the same luck. Please help! No clue the technical type if laptop it is, as it won't turn on to know. .the battery was a GU06 if that helpsMore replies
Product Name: HP ENVY 15-u010dx x360 Convertible PCProduct Model: 15-U010dXOperating System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit)When Purchased: July 2014 The Problem: The LED charging light flashes continuously (even when powered off or plugged in) and when the laptop is plugged in, the battery simply will not charge. Details: This just started today. When the laptop is plugged in, it states "plugged in, not charging." However, the battery doesn't lose charge while it's plugged in. It's like the computer is dependent upon the power cord and the battery is shot. This is strange because I don't leave my laptop charging for long periods of time. Thinking back, my laptop has died at around 11% charge since I purchased it. What I've Tried:turning it off and back oninstalling updates and restartingseeing if the laptop would charge while it's offswitching cordsswitching outletshours of browsing HP and other support forumsI'm hesitant to try any battery calibration or removal until I know whether my battery is removable. Hopefully, you all can help. I also don't even know what the diagnosis of the problem is, and don't want to spend money taking it in to get it fixed until I have a better idea.More replies
Hi,This seems like a very odd situation. When my Z60m is plugged in, my battery shows a 100% charge down next to the system tray. At the same time, I'm getting the flashing orange battery LED, which generally should only show when the battery is about to run out of charge. When I try running on the battery by unplugging the AC adapter, the laptop loses power immediately.I have tried performing a battery reset from the 'battery maintenance' page, but that didn't work; as soon as the process began, the computer powered off, and didn't remember what it was doing when it started up again.Any ideas? Thanks.Greg

Hi, everyone - I have a dell e4300 - actually I have three. On one, when it is plugged in to charge, the blue light that indicates that it is plugged in and charging, which normally would be blue continuously, is blinking, or oscillatiing, off and on.
I bent the pin on the inside of the cord slightly in order to maybe get a better contact, and bent the barrel slightly for same reason - the blinking is the same.
So, it does not quite seem like this is a weak, variable connection. Also, I get the same thing with another charger cable. Does this mean something?
Well ,the more I look at this, the less regular it seems, but it does come on momentarily every several seconds. It sure is not charged up, despite being plugged in for over 24 hours.
dell xps m2010 wont start up ,blue power light and bluetooth light stay on,i have been searching posts in other forums as well as this one and i thought i`d narrowed it down to the graphics card,i was right to an effect,my approach was to take the xps apart following dells website documents, while i had the top (dvd drive) off ,i noticed that the graphics card screws were really loose (this was my first job)...i tightened these. The top(dvd drive ) i re-connected ,but propped it up at an angle so i could still see motherboard and parts,(warning!be carefull!!)electric!! ...attached power cable and pressed power button after half a dozen times pressing this it came to life.I noticed my fans were working and thought this might not be my motherboard after all ,no overheating happening...then it froze on windows xp ??it was a start !another 6 to ten times pressing power button it worked again this time not freezing.went into bluetooth with usb mouse and paired keyboard ,made system restore point and restarted .It took maybe 4 times with it being glitchy(freezing ..not powering up) ,but when it does load xp without freezing try restarting windows xp and then it eventually finds its feet!!!my xps 2010 is running ok now.jimb
I attempted to contact HP is regard to the issue that I am experiencing, but cannot as my warranty expired on 6/22/16. I'm hoping someone e here can provide insight. When I turned my Stream on this afternoon, it wouldn't boot. Odd, since it was fully charged last night, so I went ahead and plugged it in. Upon doing so, I encountered a black screen stating my internal battery was nearly at capacity. What precisely does that mean? I am able to use the notebook as long as I keep it plugged in. Also, while plugged in I receive a message stating that it's connected to a power source and the battery is not charging. The moment I unplug it, it shuts down. I'm more than upset in regard to this new and unwanted development. The notebook is only 15 months old. Is there any way to salvage it or am I looking at buying a new one? I've always used HP desktops, laptops, and notebooks; now I will never purchase one again. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

My HP pavilion does not take charging after 80% and sometimes the charging light starts blinking. It shows plugged in , not charging.
Have you tried a battery diagnostic either in the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power on) or in the HP Support Assistant running from Windows? Stopping at 81% seems like it may be a dead power cell in the battery. Can we have the full model number of the laptop and an idea how old the battery is? Original?1 more replies

My HP pavilion dv7 laptop charger won't stay connected long enough to charge. The light flickers on and off like their is a loose connection within the charger port. The charger is fairly new so I don't think that is the problem.
Any advice on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated
I have purchased HP 15-AF114AU Notebook about 2 months ago. For the past one week, the battery doesn't charge beyond 90%. Once the bettery reaches 90%, the indicator shows "plugged in, not charging".Initially, it used to charge upto 95%, then it dropped to 94% and now 90% in a span of just one week. I have tried recalibrating the battery by draining it completely and charging it again, run tests using HP Support Assistant and the component test from BIOS, all show the battery to be OK. But still the battery doesn't charge beyond 90%, no matter what I do. Please help.More replies
I got this Toshiba Satellite 32PFL3312/10 - But now there is some problems
The battery indicator says that the the charger is plugged in, and IS charging. but it doesnt charge the battery.. no charge is taking place :-/ Its says there is "0" battery left. I have triede everything.. i toke the battery out, made sure there wasnt any dust etc.. i have tried holdning the power key down in 30 sec and a lot more. everytime i unplug the charger the system instantly swiched off.. I have tried to change the power plan from balanced to saver.
Then i tried to delete the Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery from the decive manager, and made it search for it again. This step made the battery start to charge for about 10-15 sec, and then it stopped again.
Now im kind of frustrated... So i thought that maybe it was an windows update problem, so i tried to update - but i got several updates "hanging" but now it wont update.. ! Comes with update errors. tried microsoft fix it, it didnt help.
Then i thought, okay... then i will try to restore to the factory condition, But nothing happens, i have tried all the guides from the Toshiba forums, pressing "0" - I did nothing... Then i tried pressing "F8" it didnt nothing... Then i tried the "F12" still nothing.
Im going nuts now... Hope someone in here can help me....
My notebook is not charging. I don't know if it's the charger that's not working or could it be the charging port on the notebook itself. I have been charging it for the past few days and it's doing pretty well until I plugged it on a socket and didn't charge anymore. Tried checking the charger, it smelled a little burnt on the blue end with the pin and also on the charging port. When I plugged it, there was no popping sound whatsoever that could lead to me assuming it had a short circuit. Checked the socket, it was compatible with the charger. What am I to do?More replies

My company bought these notebooks for some of our products and we install Ubuntu 12.04LTS on them. When we shut them down and try to charge them it doesn't work. The light beside charging port is on (like it is charging), but cannot turn on computer after hours of "charging" because the batteries are drained. It looks like it charges fine when the computers are turned on and charging, but not when we try to charge them without turning them on. We are wondering if this is some known issue and what would be correct procedure for charging these netbooks?
Hey, Bit of a late answer, but I'll submit it in case anyone else has a similar issue. There is an issue with one of the BIOS version on the 210 G1, BIOS version F.03. If this is not updated to the most current version you'll find your batteries will drain quite quickly and will not charge properly. Also as your running Ubuntu, you may need to use the UEFI tool from HP to update the BIOS, here it's called the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3 in 1 USB Key: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/pps/pl_... Hi, Recently the main fan on my notebook failed. Thus, I found a new cooling assembly part on ebay, ordered it, and installed it. The installation process required the complete disassembly of the notebook. I followed a video guide for this. I am well aware that disassembly voids any kind of warranty, this machine was already well out of warranty. After re-assembling the notebook, it doesn't boot or show any signs of life. I have tried all combinations of powering on with and without battery, with and without AC adapter, and with and without the hard drive. The computer's charging light doesn't light up when the adapter is plugged in, but right after I insert the plug to the computer, I hear a very faint clicking once or twice where it plugs in. I am curious if possibly during the disassembly/reassembly process I broke a power component to the computer or possibly shorted out something on the motherboard. I didn't use an antistatic wristband during the process however in hindsight I definitely should have. I'm curious as to which part could possibly need replacing according to the symptoms described above. I double checked that all plugs were properly inserted as well. Hopefully someone can point me towards whether the problem is with the DC-in power component within the computer or perhaps the entire motherboard. If it's just the little DC component, could that be easily replaced? Thanks,MattMore replies

I really hope you can answer this simply request.
Nowadays is pretty common to have a new Ultrabook, laptop or notebook for general purposes. A very important feature is to have a healthy battery. We all know that Lithium-batts do a terrific job and are more resistant than never, but after many years of experience, I've learnt that having a software like "Eco charge, Battery care, Smart charge...etc " is a clever and vital feature already present in major brands BUT HP, believe or not. I've just received a new Ultrabook Spectra x360 with windows 8.1, and so far I cannot find any special battery function for this request, even worst nobody can answer in their forum either; I really can't understand this flaw in HP. So, I'd like to know is there any reliable battery software that can allow me to keep the battery charge to 80% and no more, even connected to AC power.
I've seen several that keep info about battery and how to optimize but none with the simple function that I need.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
I honestly don't think it is possible to change what is built into the hardware and ACPI that ships with the computer. Would take a program that can access and change the settings in ACPI and this most likely would have to come from the manufacturer.11 more replies
Hello to all, I'm new to this forum.
Start of with a topic what was published many times before, only not the same as in my situation. The crazy thing is, at every startup from Windows the battery icon runs the charge bar 5 times, and than it stops. At pointer it says: 0% available ( on main supply, battery is being charged) However, this does never change. Nomatter how long it charges.
BatteryBar does the same thing:
Procent 0,0 %
Capacity 0mWh of 43.568 mWh
Battery unknown (charging)
Charge 0 mW
Full time 1:17
Main supply connected
battery waist 18,2% of 53.280 mWh
Does anybody have the patience to shine a light on this drained topic. I feel, mines is different.
Would be highly apreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi, First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53501-54000/sp53851.exe Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall. Tap away at f10 as soon as you press the power button to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook again. When windows has reloaded, see if holding down the fn key and pressing the spacebar will illuminate the TouchPad. There are also further configurable options Here. Regards, DP-K6 more replies
CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT OF MY Hp 630 CHARGING LIGHT PROBLEM ?
... My Hp 630 light is always off when 'am chaging it. It only indicates the FULLY CHARGED LIGHT wen fully chaged. I dont always know if truely power adapter has been correctly pluged unless I turn it on to see the charging indicator on the battery ICON. Pls, what can I do to show red light while charging?
Hello MG mate a lot of the LEDs used for the charge light actually change colour so say for charging they will glow yellow for example and then green for fully charged.
Now depending on what sort of LED/s it is either means you have to replace the charging one or the whole thing as some LEDs work on circuitry that will change the colour depending on the stored charge ie volts and theoretical available current.
this may give you an idea on what I am saying https://www.sparkfun.com/products/105? &
Light-emitting diode - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Having said all that to replace is no mean feat you need to be able to disassemble the machine and from experience those LEDs are very small. For what it is worth my friend I would just accept that the fully charged comes on if it doesn't well something is wrong either with the battery or adaptor
Oh by the way I meant to mention my Toshiba's show me when power is hooked up too so in effect I have three LED indicators on the machine
Power cord plugged in to notebook. Charging light is amber. Battery is at 87% plugged in and charging. The mamium charge for the last couple of month is about 86% to 87%
Hi MillerDo a hard reset.http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768Then uninstall battery driver from device manager after physically removing battery and powering on notebook with AC power alone. -->In Device Manager, expand the Batteries section by clicking the little icon to the left of the word Batteries. I also have an HP Envy, differnt model, and I have a dedicated keyboard backlight button, also known as 'f5'. The button just stopped working. I do have light on the power button when the power is on, and the f12(wifi) and caps lock lights go on, but only the dot in the upper righthand corner as is appropriate. Other than that, total darkness. I think the lights are burned out. Before, I could turn the backlights on and off at will, regardless of the ambient lighting. I have tried the available links for 'repair', but to no avail. I would really like to know what the problem is, and what can be done to return the f5 button to its former glory...if that's even possible. Thanks.More replies

I've read a few places on the net that if you don't use/charge a zen for a while that you need to charge it for a long time and reset it and then it should be fine... In my case, I didn't use it for about 6 months, and have had it on charge for about a week, have reset it a few times and its still not working! Every so often it turns on and the creative logo comes up, and then switches off again. A few times its turned on and started 'rebuilding the library' and once it has turned on and a red screen has come up. The little battery symbol is constantly on, and red!
Its a creative zen vision:m 30gb, and I have a mac book!
Has my little fella conked out or is there hope yet? Thanks!
The battery on my dv6-6026tx laptop stopped charging, however windows still says "plugged in, charging" just the percentage stays at what ever it was when it was plugged in (currently 15%, for the last 2 hours). If i unplug the charger the battery will discharge normally. If i take the battery out while the computer is running, the laptop will stay on and run on the charger as it's supposed to.I have tried charging the laptop both while on and off, and have tried booting it up while plugged in and while unplugged.Help?
Run the HP Battery health test in the HP Support Assistant. It will read the data in the battery like the number of cycles...like odometer on a car and also the health of each cell. The most likely thing is that the battery needs replacement. They do not last forever.1 more replies
I noticed the other day my laptop was dead. When I went to plug in up a red indicator light for the charger came on then went off and would not even power up when plugged into the wall. Last night when i plugged it back up just to see what it would do a white blinking indicator for the charger came on but still will not power up. I bought a new charger but it will not come in until next week. I just want to know if maybe i should order a new battery. (it is about 4 years old)More replies

I have an HP dv5. i've had it for 2 yrs and its been wonderful. basically, ive been stupid and kept my laptop plugged in constantly except for the occasional trip somewhere.
about a month ago it wouldnt charge. the light next to where the ac adaptor plugs in always lit up before telling me the computer registered that it was being charged. now my laptops completely dead because the light next to the ac plug in wont light up. i dont know if the problem is internal or if i need a new battery or adapter.
i'd like to go the cheapest route possible because i'm a college girl and am pretty much broke. lol. im sure you all know what thats like.
HELP ME PLEASE!!!
It could be the charger, replacements not that expensive (try to stay away from universal adapters, they are often really poor quality)
It could be the DC socket (the hole where you put the charger in) Does it wiggle around a lot when you put the charger in?
has it still got the PIN inside that hole? Does it look damaged?
Try taking the battery out and plugging the charger in - see if that fixes it? It may be a faulty battery causing the issue.
Let me know. I will advise
Ok i have a Gateway MT6451, its about 8 months old and IS still under manufacturer warranty. In the past few months i have noticed that my battery isn't all that good. I do leave my laptop on my bed charging most of the day all week long. Now about 2 months ago something happened to my all the outlets in my room, and none of them work still to this day until an electrician can get there. After that i noticed that my battery doesn't like to charge as good as it used to. Now by that i mean, every so often i would see it flicker on and off as if its charging and not charging, but the whole time it wold be plugged in. Well last night it did it tremendously bad and began to flicker a lot when i would wiggle the cord. Well i woke up this morning and my computer wont charge at all. I called Gateway and they said to reseat the memory and hard drive (whatever that has to do with power i don't know). I did that and still no power. I know my battery isn't very good, and doesn't last long when unplugged but like i said i hardly ever unplug it. My question is there something i can do to fix the computer myself instead of having to send it to gateway. I'm a college student and cannot afford to go without my computer for a month while it sits in gateways warehouse waiting to be fixed. Any suggestions? Anyone think they may know what the problem is? Thanks

my laptop wont charge in a nut shell.
the battery indicator has 0% remaining, and i have to have it run on mains permanantly, even with the mains plugged into charge the percentrage doesnt change, the AC adapter LED is green with power obviously because its making my laptop run on mains!
the battery itself i have taken out to see if there are any dust obstructions, there is a button on the battery itself and it tells you the charge level, it has 5 led's and it has 1/3/5 all flashing when i press the button.
i have a samsung q35 laptop.
any further questions please ask!

Make and model of laptop?
Does the computer still run, even though the battery doesn't charge?
i have a dell inspiron 1525 when i got it a year ago the battery didnt work... about 2 weeks ago the hdd died so i replace it with a wd blue 1tb the next day the power wire crapped out (the wire wore at the plug) but i was able to take it apart and fix it... yesterday i noticed the battery had some charge (63%) but still if i put my cursor over the icon it says connected but not charging... what would cause the battery to catch a charge after a year+ of not working to it charging then not again?????
Actually, this happens to me on occasion with a similar laptop. Try unplugging the power cord from the outlet and from your computer for about thirty seconds and then plug it back it back in. If it doesn't start working after doing that three times, restart your computer. That usually fixes it for me.7 more replies
i swear it says its charging, but its been at 46% for the past week. i've been letting it charge and trying different outlets but nothing seems to be working. help??
Well, 2 things come to mind. Either the charger is not working ( do u have a voltmeter that you can use for verification?); or the battery is past it's ability to achieve a full charge. Do either of them sound reasonable?

Hello, Recently i have been having charging problems with my Lenovo Z40-70 laptop. Whenever i try to charge it says: Plugged in, not charging. The only way i can get it to charge is by putting it to conservation mode, though it only keeps it at 55%-60% and i would have to have it charging the whole time or else it will die very fast. I have been researching online but cannot find a solution to this problem. Please help.More replies

Hi @suggs66,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums!I have looked into your issue about your HP Stream Notebook and it having startup issues after an update was done. Try performing a hard reset. You could try a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Please get back to me how this goes. My laptop keeps shutting down and then rebooting, it has been happening a lot. A few days ago it just shut down, while it was charging and it would not turn back on. It still won't. I lost the original charger, but I'm using a charger that fits it. I have been charging it for a day or two and it won't turn on! I need my laptop and I can't really afford to buy a new battery, I heard they are really expensive. My laptop is an Acer, Aspire 5742 series. Please help. ):
If you don't have the original charger and you are using a charger not designed for your laptop voltage, amps and watts you most likely damaged your laptop. (Capacitor or resistor on the motherboard).1 more replies

Hi everyone, just to report I am facing exactly the same issue with the Envy X2 13-inch 2-in-1 (model 13-j020ca) I gave to my wife.It started happening a couple of weeks ago, without apparent root cause, but it seems related with the magnetic connector between tablet and keyboard. After trying everything posted on this thread I finally gave up and I am considering to buy a cheaper Keyboard/Mouse combo (whatever option is better and reliable than paying an original keyboard replacement that probably will be failing like the many others around the world). What really grinds my gears (sorry BTW for the expression) is using my hard earned bucks, choosing and trusting a global and recognized brand like HP and not getting any official response about this issue. I live in Chile and when I contact local HP support they don't have any idea about this issue (perhaps they don't read their own HP Support forum). At the end of the day I have a half 2-in-1 Notebook which I can only use as a tablet. It's really annoying. I hope HP can give us an official explanation of this issue, in the meantime you guys keep up the good work and thanks for the advices given.
Hi @cchoiz, Thank you for your inquiry. I grasp that your keyboard will not charge and you are unable to use it. You contacted HP Support in Chile but they did not seem to know how to resolve the issue for you. Here is a link that may help. HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting Problems with Docking Stations. Hi skrillek, Does the led light when it's plugged in using the mains adaptor ?
I am using a HP Laptop, 6314tx. It has been 1 year and 9 months since I am using it. In the past couple of months, I have experienced a battery problem. My laptop battery doesn't charge more than 33%. It was 67% first, then came down to 43% and now 32%. Sometimes, it shows '100% available (plugged in, charging).' But, when I click on the battery icon, it again shows as '32% available (plugged in, charging).'
Is there any solution to this?
You might use this HP battery test to see what the health of your battery is. It may be time to get a new battery or charger. You can read more about this test here.
Hope this helps for now,
well. i have a dell laptop. i dropped it and it. after i dropped it it still worked. but when i tried to plug my charger in it shut off. after the battery ran out there was nothin i could do. what is my problem. I bought a brand new charger, plugged it in and the charger light went off and there was a spark at the laptop where i plugged it in at. so it is the laptop. what is the problem???
Hi freei32002, and welcome to TSG.
Was the charger plugged into the laptop when you dropped it? If so, you may have broken the charger jack on the motherboard or broken the soldered connections between the jack and the motherboard.
i have an acer aspire 5920g i had problems with the screen where it just goes blank(press fn and f6 and it comes back) but now the laptop wont charge either so i cant turn it on...is this a problem with the charger port or is it the battery itself i wonder?? i just want to know what to expect when i bring it to get fixed as to whether its gonna cost me a lot of money to fix or should i be looking to buy a new one, ie is it something like a new motherboard which i believe is super expensive!! :( please help if u can

Hi guys, My battery is no longer going above three percent when plugged in. I have a lenovo y40, the warranty just expired last month, and lenovo is not really helping. I'm very frustrated. Everything was fine, until I turned my computer on this morning and realized it wasn't storing power. After reading around on the internet I determined a few things. A) The battery itself is fine, I ran a battery report... and it shows a sudden drop from 97% to 0% to 2%, and then back to 100% in a matter of minutes. Battery Log < Click to see my log B) I think the issue is primarily a software one, becuase when I disable microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in device manager my computer still runs for hours at 0% without being plugged in. Anyone else have this issue or know a solution? I'm a college student and I need this laptop to work on the fly for me. It's barely been over a year, and im already having issues.... someone help I can't afford a new lp!!!!

In response to customer reports of unexpected battery gauge behavior on Y40-70 and Y40-80 laptops, Lenovo determined the battery gauge software is performing as expected. The unusual gauge results being reported are a reflection of the battery reaching end of life.
Lenovo has released a Service TIP to assist customers with obtaining battery replacements under warranty, or if out of warranty, to find a replacement battery from Lenovo-approved vendors. The Service TIP can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf16-I0023
The part numbers for Y40-70/80 batteries are:
Y40 SP/A L13M4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500248
Y40 LG L13L4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500249 substitute part 121500251
Y40 CP/C L13C4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500259 substitute part 121500251
To determine which battery came with your Y40 notebook, instructions for removing the bottom cover can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual pdf here. An alternate to opening your system (which does not void warranty) is to search for batteries using the model/product number located on the bottom cover.
My Acer 5920g Laptop WILL NOT charge,
I just received it back from Acer and they said there is no fault. I have 3 different AC adapters (none of which will charge) and two batteries (neither of which will charge). I thought it may have been the plug at the back of the laptop but they say that it is working. I only have a few months left on my extended warranty.
I have wiggled the cord, I have bought new a new battery (which worked until it ran out of charge), two new chargers (one of which worked for one day, the other not at all) and sent it to the manufacturer. The OS is Vista.
Can someone please give me some idea what to do next? I have seen external laptop chargers, but I'm worried it will just be another waste of money. HELP!!!
When you sent it to Acer, did you also send the battery and charger?

Oh yeh, and when i try connecting the charge to the thing where it charges it, and then take it out after a while, it has some weird smell... like a fuse lol.
I have a hardly used 2 year old U500, and I'm stumped.
A few weeks ago I noticed my battery charging light was of and it would not charge.
I didn't think to look at the charger light on the transformer - which was on, so ended up paying ?20 for a battery only to find it still wouldn't charge of course as it wasn't a faulty battery.
The light on the plug transformer/charger was showing green so I then assumed it must be a faulty jackplug inside my machine as there was power coming out of the transformer/plug as the green light is on.
Today I took the machine apart and replaced the jack plug on the motherboard - no problems, started it up and it still isn't taking a charge. I have spent ?30 on this piece of cr@p so far, should I now buy a new charger cable etc?
Do I have a defective plug/transformer - despite the green light showing it's getting power or is there something else I can try?
Neither the charging or the power light on my laptop is lighting up.
I would be really surprised if anyone here would be able to say what?s wrong with the notebook ?I doubt that this is possible without testing the hardware and running some hardware diagnostic tests.
> Do I have a defective plug/transformer - despite the green light showing it's getting power or is there something else I can try?
I don?t think that AC adaptor is faulty. As I understood you, the notebook functions and you can use it connected to the mains. This means that AC adaptor provide power to the notebook and this means that AC adaptor is ok.
Generally speaking, you should be able to use the notebook even if the battery is removed. So in my opinion it looks like that the issue must be related to electronic problems on motherboard because new battery did not solve this charging issue?
By the way: is your BIOS up to date? Would be worth to check this?
My windows 7 comp won't turn on or charge the light won't even turn on and I tried a different charger and it still doesn't work helllllp!!!!
