Hi! I recently bought a new laptop, i'm very happy with it and it works fine! Although, now i need to access the BIOS Password, something that the previously owner dont recall setting ( A School ) Does anyone know any way to reset/recover the BIOS password to this model, without buying a new motherboard/BIOS Chip or ''Contact HP Support, because they probably need a proof that it's not stolen?I didnt get any receipt from the School that they've bought it, Anyone got any ideas?

A:HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 BIOS PASSWORD FORGOTTEN

Hello @OskarB98? Welcome to the HP Support forum. I am afraid that there is no other options other than HP Support for business. Most business class notebooks (including yours Elitebook and Probook) have better security. You will have to contact HP Support for assistance on removing the password. Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/business-support.html HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password. I am sure they do not need any kind of proof - just be somewhat pushy. In order to generate this BIN file they will need your serial number, product number, UUID, etc... found in the startup menu (F1) .  Hope this helps. Let me know if you face any issues.

We recently bought a couple new HP Folio 1040 G2's and we're having very random (multiple weeks can pass without one) BSOD's on all these computers. Memory was extensively tested, BIOS updated, graphics card and other drivers are also slowly being updated. The same Win 8.1 image is used on other machines and there are no issues there. These machines are malware free and have the same set of applications (AV included) as our other notebooks.

I even tried with http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_other-system/driver-verifier-tracking-down-a-mis-behaving/f5cb4faf-556b-4b6d-95b3-c48669e4c983, for a day or two but I have yet to catch a BSOD when it's running.

Here's the error received (it's not always svchost.exe):

A:Stop Error on a few new HP Folio 1040 G2's

I see fltmgr.sys and ntfs.sys + "pfn" (Page Frame Number - page file) in the stack text, which may indicate some type of issue with the hard drive.

However, you are telling us that BSODs are occurring on multiple systems, so HDD problems seem unlikely since multiple systems are involved.

If 3rd party software related, Driver Verifier may help.  Run it and see if any 3rd party drivers are flagged -

We have several older DLP projectors that will not work with the Elitebook Folio 1040 G3.  The projector does not sense that it is connected to the Folio 1040 G3 and it continually searches for a connected PC.  The 1040 G3 uses a dock connector with Ethernet and VGA adapters on it.  The most current Intel grapics driver is loaded as well as all other drivers available through the HP Softpaq Download Manager.  The DLP projectors support resoloutions of 1024x768 and 1280x1024.  We have confirmed they are working with Other HP notebooks such as the 8470p.

Evertyhing works normally drive is encrypted & authorisation is valid on start up. Problem is that HP Drive Encryption is not visible at all in HP Client Security in the panel, so not possible to switch it off. So in fact I cannot perform any upgrade to newest Windows, as before ugrade Drive Encryption should be switched off- I have no access to do it. Also if I want to unistall HP DE from Control Panel, installator is asking to switch firstly encryption off, but it is not doable.. Running HP DE or HP Client Security installation in repair mode doesn't solve problem. Any hint? Can I somehow access HP Drive Encryption panel directly? I am not finding any execulatable in its directory...

For no apparent reason, my new Folio 1040 G will not boot after I login to the WinMagic security screen.  I can access the BIOS panels and have run the long diagnostics. No errors are reported. After I enter the password or finger scan, I get a black screen with only a blinking cursor in the upper left, then nothing happens. At that point. the machine does respond to cntrl-alt-del by restarting the boot cycle. I did not create a spare key and I not want to loose the data on this drive. HP support says the only thing they can do is tell me how to wipe the drive and re-install Windows. I'm guessing this SDD has a corrupted boot record but the data on the rest of the drive is okay.  My questions are: 1) Is there any way to boot the system off the recovery partition and recover the data? 2) If I remove the drive and put it into a caddy, how could I use the password to access the data on it? 3) Is there any other work around to boot off of this SDD or make it readable by another computer? Thanks in advance ...

Although if could be a h/w issue, you mention the touchpad works within the BIOS to point around the menus. I would encourage you to run HP SDM (www.hp.com/go/sdm) and update all hardware drivers and BIOS (BIOS needs to be done by itself). That should help with your issue.  Do not install any other software suggested by SDM unless you know you use that particular tool

My Elitebook Folio 1040 G2 is failing to start up.  Currently the AC adaptor is plugged in but the Power Button and Caps Lock leds are flashing white and the Battery LED is flashing orange. The battery is totally drained and the laptop will not start. Immediately prior to this problem I was running a scan on the laptop which was taking several hours and I noticed that the battery was not charging even though the AC adaptor was plugged in.  The battery level was 4% for a couple of hours and then the laptop turned off (I assume because the battery was drained). Based upon previous instances of this problem reported  on the forum I have tried the following removing the  AC supply and holding the power button and mute button for> 30secs removing the  AC supply and holding the power button and esc button for> 30secs removing the  AC supply and holding the power button and wireless button for> 30secs removing the AC supply and disconnecting the internal battery and holding  power button and mutebutton for> 3osecsremoving the two screws from the middle back of the computer base and then hard restarting In each case the flashing lights and failure to start remain.  I  am assuming the ac adaptor is alright as the flashing lights only occur when this is plugged into the laptop. Doesanybody have any ideas as to how this can be resolved? Regards          Rap... Hello,
I am having problems with direct booting into Windows 8 installed into a VHDX file.
This is a four-partition UEFI boot on a GPT drive. EFI files are residing on a second partition of disk 0 (the ESP partition) in the EFI folder. The boot virtual disk is residing on the fourth partition of that disk 0.
When I turn on the PC, it shows black screen after the BIOS POST screen. No Windows 8 boot menu, no other information is displayed. However, if I press Shift+F12 (or F12) to start Dell BIOS Boot Menu and choose Windows Boot Manager from the UEFI part of
the boot menu, Windows 8 starts to boot without difficulties.
How do I make Windows to boot automatically without having to select Windows Boot Manager in DELL BIOS boot menu?
I believe I messed up with boot sector somehow... What needs to be fixed provided that Windows 8 will boot into VHDX file?
Thank you.

I have a Gateway 820GM pc and was having issues with IRQ conflicts. I was told that this is something that was fixed in the latest bios so I downloaded and ran them windows program that would automate the install of these bios.

Long story short the computer rebooted to install the bios and then hung on a black screen. After 30 minutes it was clear that something was wrong. I have verified that these are the correct bios for my motherboard and everything.

I was able to get the computer to boot to windows by holding down the insert key when the system is turning on however when I try to access the bios screen its all corrupt in there with a blue screen and unreadable text.

While i Know the easy answer is to trash the motherboard before I go spend $100 on a replacement I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as the computer does now boot to windows but I am concerned that there are still some problems that should be addressed with the Bios. Thanks.

A:Bios corrupted by bad bios install

Try resetting the CMOS (there's a jumper for that on the motherboard).

Boot using a DOS floppy or CD and re-flash the BIOS from there.

Hello, When updating the BIOS, I accidentaly took off the AC and the computer turned off (it does not have a battery), which lead to a corrupted BIOS and consequently a black screen after starting the computer. I went to see the HP Restoring BIOS steps, but a problem came up. After downloading the BIOS for the target computer and executing the .exe file, the HP System BIOS Update Utility does not pop up and provides an error saying: Init CreateDriver Handle Fail This error belongs to InsydeFlash. Right, I have a huge technical problem, and desperately need some help. I sincerely hope that you guys are able to help me in some way.

Basically, I have an Acer T180-UB7Z here, and it was working fine, par the bad ram. All was fine, until I tried to update the BIOS. I downloaded the most recent bios update for that specific model, from Acer's website, so I know it wasn't a bad copy. I ran the updating tool within Windows, and tried to update. The update failed with an error saying something along the lines of 'could not erase - the hardware may be write protected'.

Thinking the bios was write protected, I assumed that the updater never changed it in some way, and so didn't think to revert to the backup I made. However, when I restarted the machine, it now fails to boot. The BIOS claims to be a 2007 version, which I downloaded, even though it supposedly never installed (it used to say it was 2006). It hangs at "Verifying DMI pool data". I googled the situation, and discovered that it is a fault with the motherboard, that the onboard bios flasher is faulty, and that everyone who has ever tried to update it has received the same problem, and there is virtually nothing that can be done within the machine to repair it.

The machine can not boot from CD, hard drive, removable devices etc, since Verifying pool data happens before this, and cannot be skipped. The bios settings can be accessed and changed, but I've read that no combination of settings will work in ... Read more

A:Corrupted BIOS?

Check the manufacturer's website. Some BIOSes have a failsafe feature that allows you to return the BIOS to factory code in the event of a failed update. What it's called will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but look for words like "failsafe" "bootblock" and such.

I do hope your board / BIOS supports that. Otherwise it's pretty much a paperweight.

Turn off the computer.
Plug the notebook into power using the power adapter.

I contacted Microsoft who tried to fix it but was unsuccessful. I eventually decided to revert back to Windows 7. I did this, and the computer kept blue screening and at one point gave me an error message related to the BIOS. I contacted Microsoft again, as I felt this was their fault and they would know the solution. They told me I needed to reinstall Windows and everything would be fine. Before I could make an ISO, the computer crashed and now will not boot at all. The computer turns on but stays black screen. The caps lock blinks twice with a pause after two blinks over and over. Hi,
I'm using a HP Mini laptop with Windows 7. I updated BIOS using the HP Support Assistant. Then, I had to restart my laptop. While doing this, a message came saying that the updated BIOS is being installed but after that my laptop shut down by itself. It did NOT restart. When I turned the laptop on, a message came about a "BIOS checksum error" and then my laptop showed the 'welcome' screen like normal. When I researched about it, people said that when that error happens, it means my BIOS is corrupted.

But, I was able to use my laptop like normal and when I checked my system information, it showed the updated BIOS like this = System BIOS - F.14. AND, when I restarted my laptop, there was no error message or anything. It just started up like normal.

So, my question is - Is my BIOS corrupted?
Please answer, I'm REALLY worried. Thanks for your time.

While my notebook G61-327 was updating MS windows 10 anniversary addition during the reboot my system went to "black screen" condition.  The system turns on and the fans are running but nothing is shown on the screen and no POST is performed. The blink codes show a corrupted bios.  I've done the obvious of taking out the CMOS battery and removing the primary battery and unplugging the machine from the wall outlet.  Pressing and holding the power button for minutes on end and then re-installing everything and turn on the machine but still get black screen.  I've attached an external monitor to it to see if it was the LCD but nothing happened.  I've tried holding the windows button and the B button to get to bios recovery but nothing.  I've downloaded the bios installation utility from HP for my model computer but it works only in a windows environment to update the bios and it doesn't give the option of creating a bootable USB drive to reinstall the bios firmware. What else is available before I have to get a new machine.  I really like this laptop and would like to keep it.

The bios settings can be accessed and changed, but I've read that no combination o... Read more

Being as it wont boot I suggest you check with these people,
and have them flash you a new chip,if yours is removable.
http://cgi.ebay.com/chip-bios-I-can-help-with-chips-like-on-my-Picture-6975_W0QQitemZ190424611007QQcategoryZ11175QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m444QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D10%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5626891174629338684
The will probably want the motherboard/computer model and
numbers from the chip.
Be careful removing the old chip when the new one comes in.
Don't remove it till you get the new one.
It seems that computer uses a foxcon board and it looks like the chip is removable.
I got a chip from these people and they shipped it quick.
Only $10.
Make sure you disconnect the power cord from the computer and
discharge any static from your body before messing with the chip.
Usually, you can discharge the static by touching a metal part of
the case while it is still pluuged in,then remove the cord.

Hi everyone. I have a problem with my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6-2110sm). Recently my laptop freezed and caps lock and num lock started blinking two times... This never happend before so I googled it. It seems that my BIOS is corrupted. I don't know much about computers so I searched what does "corrupted BIOS" mean. There were a lot of solutions and I tried most of them but none of them worked.

I tried the trick with holding the windows key and B and then power button but nothing happens. It restarts automatically and nothing happens. I tried pulling out RAM slots and returning them back but that didn't work either... So I'm out of options. Also I forgot to say that I can't work on my laptop because after I reboot, it freezes and I can't do anything. Caps and num lock just blink and I have to force shut down.

Another thing, sometimes blue screen of death appears and it looks like this:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

I realized that there are a few BIOS updates, after my version (1.26) that seem to offer performance inmprovements. I probably need those, since my brother has a laptop with identical specs to mine, but his runs faster in games. I made sure I have proper drivers and all that stuff, but his is still faster. I also know that if a BIOS update fails, I'll have an expensive brick. I'd rather not have that, so before doing the update, I want to be sure I can recover my computer.

So here's my problem. I was recently upgrading my Dell Vostro 3350 bios (using the .exe file from the website) from A07 version to A10 version. Suddenly, *boom*. Power failure. And then, when I try to turn it on, nothing happens. Black screen. No bios. No boot. Just the lights and the fan come on. Shoot. I bricked it.

So, my question:

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

And don't say "Get a new motherboard! That'll fix it!"
Well duh! Problem is, I don't have any real, erm, how do you say- money.

Thanks!

A:Reflash a BIOS that has corrupted

Dell's do not have a BIOS recovery. The ONLY option is to replace the motherboard. Sorry.

However, one thing to try is to reset the CMOS memory (BIOS) by removing the CMOS "coin cell" backup battery for at least 10 minutes. No guarantee this will help but at this point the motherboard is trashed so anything is worth a try.

The Dell manual, available here, has instructions on removing the coin cell battery.

My OS is Windows XP and I am using A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard. I made some changes to BIOS configuration and screwed up the BIOS configuration. As it was taking 15 to 20 minutes to boot up or to come out from sleep mode I reformatted the hard-drive expecting that I will end up with a new BIOS file with the original default configuration. But it looks I got the same corrupted BIOS configuration and every time when I boot the computer it comes out with a message with 4 options to start the Windows: 1. Safe Mode 2. Safe Mode with Networking 3. Safe Mode with command prompt and 4. Start Windows normally. BUT choosing any one of these does not boot the computer instead of that I keep getting the same message. Even the Safe Mode does not respond. After pressing anyone of these options 10 to 15 times all of a sudden I will get the MS welcome screen and then I can do all my work including surfing the net BUT if I shut it down or put it to sleep mode I get the same error message with the above mentioned 4 options which does not work.
Is there a way to clean up the BIOS file and install the correct version? I got the instruction from ASUS how to download the latest version and copy it to the Startup (Floppy) Disk. At the A:\> prompt when I type the file name as shown in the manual / download instruction it says invalid parameters.
Any suggestion to clean the BIOS file will be appreciated.

During Bios update, the electrical power went out due to reasons unrelated to the computer.

Since the bios update was in progress, it ended up corrupted. Now the system does not even give signs of boot up.

I went back and forth with the manufacturer about getting a new bios but i could not get it replaced b4 warranty expired.

where can i purchased this bios and where is it in this spicific motherboard?

Maybe some of you know how to get around this without replacing Bios chip. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi! So, my laptop won't boot at all right now. First though, the back-story. I purchased a Samsung 850 Evo SATA form factor SSD to replace the 1 TB HDD I had in my computer. Supposedly, I successfully cloned my Windows installation onto the SSD and was ready to switch out the drive. Long story short, winload.efi was non-functional on the SSD, so I couldn't boot from it (this caused the first appearance of my sad face). During this time, I switched the hard drives about 4 times so that I could get my laptop functional to look up how to fix my winload problem. I put my SSD in my computer (again), sealed up the case and booted it up. Windows attempted to load, told me that it couldn't, and offered to open up my UEFI/BIOS settings. So, I opened up the BIOS settings, and that is where my current issue began. Once in the BIOS settings, I hit escape so I could exit the settings and have my computer boot from a Windows 10 64-bit Recovery CD in order to restore my winload.efi. Well, I exited the BIOS at least. Immediately after exiting the UEFI firmware settings, the screen went black. I waited about 5 minutes, then decided to push and hold the power button to shut the computer off. It worked, and I attempted to power the computer back on. At this point, the power button's LED lit up, and the WiFi antenna LED turned red (see the images attached further down), but nothing happened. About 5 days ago I started up my computer in the morning and everything was working fine. I shut down the laptop, packed it up and took a 3 hour car ride back to my place. I go to start it up when I get back and this is what I experience:

I leave the computer to sit for a day while plugged in and it miraculously worked the next day. 2 days later, the comp regresses back to the symptoms above, and letting it sit is not going to fix it this time.

I have a DELL 660s which no longer boots after a failed windows 10 install.  Unfortunately, it's just a few months out of warranty.
When I power the computer on the fan starts and I see a brief period of hard drive activity but the screen doesn't activate - just a blank, black screen.  I don't even see the DELL logo and I'm unable to access BIOS.
I believe the BIOS firmware was corrupted by the failed Windows 10 install.  I've tried removing the CMOS battery overnight but this didn't help.  At this point I believe I need to flash stable firmware onto the BIOS chip, which is all the more difficult since the computer won't boot and I can't access BIOS.
Based on my research manufacturers of BIOS chips often include emergency recovery procedures to fix corrupted BIOS firmware.  For example the manufactuer AMI includes an embedded "boot block" which can sometimes be used to boot from floppy / flash usb and install new firmware even when the existing BIOS firmware is corrupted.  See: https://techjourney.net/recover-or-undo-corrupt-ami-bios-flash-update/
I'd like to try something like this but I don't know where to start.  I guess the first thing I need to know is who is the manufacturer of the BIOS chip in my DELL 660s computer?  Can anyone help me answer this question?
I found one vague reference on google that mentions AMI is the manufacturer but I'm not sure if the source is accur... Read more

I wanted to add that I've downloaded the BIOS install file from Dell's website for the 660s.  The filename is named "Inspiron 660s Vostro 270s A11 BIOS.exe".
I've read online that I may need to extract the rom or header file from this executable file but I've been unsuccessful in doing that.  The example I've seen say to run the executable file from the command line with the /writeromfile or /writehdrfile flags.
When I try this nothing happens except that I receive an error message stating this is not a DELL computer (I'm running the executable file from my HP laptop).

Hi. I had some problems with this notebook not turning on correctly after each shut down. It would hang with artifacts at Windows startup. After a restart it would be ok and would not do the same until a shut down or sleep event occurred. This made me think that it could be something wrong with the BIOS not waking up something correctly.I had the latest V20 BIOS already on the notebook, so I tried to flash older versions with each of them failing (now I realise that it says next to V20 on the download page that you can no longer downgrade after you install it, so that was the reason) and one of them actually corrupted the BIOS, although it said it could not flash it.After that fail, when I turn on the laptop I get a black screen, fan working, and Caps Lock flashing 1 on 1 off indefinitely without beep codes. Now I'm trying to enter Crisis Mode by pressing Win+B and Power at startup, bun nothing happens, it starts normally and Caps Lock intermittent flashing continues. No matter what I do, it does not seem to search for a BIOS on the USB drive that I plug in.Does anyone know how to unbrick this notebook model? It's such a shame, because it's in an immaculate shape. Thank you all!

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 2400 from the original owner. Ive discovered that the bios displays a string of corrupted characters and symbols in the Service Tag field that do not match the Service Tag sticker on the side panel of the PC. Moreover, when I boot the machine, a lengthy string of corrupted characters are displayed above the Dell Logo for 2-3 seconds.

Prior to selling the PC to me, the original owner wiped the hard drive making it necessary for me to reinstall Windows XP Home and the drivers, which I was able to do successfully. I would not guess this is related to the problem with the bios but perhaps Im wrong.

I can live with this problem but would prefer not to. Has anyone encountered issue and if so were you able to correct it?

A:hp 2000-2b09wm corrupted bios not booting

Hi, From what you said, I understand that the PC got issues after you try to flash the BIOS. The possibility is that the BIOS is corrupted and it might require a service from HP Service Center where they can rectify the BIOS issue. If the PC is still in warranty, please contact HP Support and arrange for a repair at the earliest.

Hello,Having an issue where I am completely unable to access my BIOS settings, after pressing F2 I am directed to the BIOS, then within seconds the keyboard stops responding to inputs. The only way out is by pressing the power button.  Now for the stange part. Windows system info seems to think I am running 3.08, however the frozen BIOS screen says it is Version 3.07.  I have tried running the 3.08 update .exe, and am greeted with this; ? I have also tried running the 3.05 update file, and am greeted with the exact same message (not the expected older version message).  Is there a way to force the flash? I would like to have access to my BIOS again. I have also tried accessing the BIOS via the small button to the left of the left speaker, however this freezes a few seconds in as well.  The computer runs normally for the most part, my only complaint is the frequent graphics card crashes/restarts under intense gaming load. Is there a way to downgrade BIOS versions, or force the update?

A:y510p BIOS Corrupted? Force Flash? (3.08)

Is there any way to downgrade the BIOS to 3.05 using a USB drive or CD? Apparently people have been having major problems with Lenovo BIOS setups, and have had great success using modded versions to allow WLAN customization, and fix graphics card errors.  Considering the factory software has failed me, I would like to give this a try.

My laptop recently can only see the acer logo and keep repeating, I was suspecting that my bios was corrupted and referring to the link below I believe is kind of similar problem. So, how do I do the flashing of bios via usb since it is not fn + esc key anymore? http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Series-Laptops/Acer-Aspire-V5-573-Black-Screen-BIOS-corrupt/m-...

Okay, so I know I'm not the first to ask about this problem, but I'm having some difficulty fixing it with the knowledge gleaned from this and other forums.

After restoring this laptop I went to Toshiba's website to pick up drivers and updates for this model. My mistake was picking up the bios update which uses winflash and running it in windows, as you can guess it hung about half way through and eventually the laptop had to be unplugged to shut down. Upon trying to restart the laptop, I'd press the power button and it wouldn't start other then the on button lighting up. So at the moment the system is bricked until I restore the Bios.

I've downloaded the phoenix recovery tool Wincrisis and followed the instructions to the letter. I've tried using it on a win7 Using compatibility mode for sp3 XP machine and a XP machine, both with same results. I'm using a 16GB SanDisk Cruzer Glide USB Flash Drive.

I'm forced to format the drive with FAT32 and after using wincrisis it contains the renamed bios.wph and minidos.sys and phlash16.exe.

After making the crisis disk, I then insert it in the laptop Which has the battery and all cables disconnected and then hold down fn and B while plugging in and starting the laptop in recovery mode. The laptop has no trouble entering recovery mode, the fan goes to the fastest setting and doesn't stop and after a few seconds the light on the usb shows activity flashing very quickly and then pulsing and flashing quickly again and continues... A:Corrupted Bios update on A355D-S6921

Hi

I must say that BIOS update was not necessary and I don't know why you wanted to update it. Probably just to have latest version, right?

Anyway, BIOS is screwed up now. How to fix it? To be honest I didn?t try it in the past because I didn?t want to make some risk and update BIOS but on this forum I found one very interesting thread about that.

Hi everyone

I have a HP MODEL: DV6 1131ea. The other night when I turned it on it would not boot and all I got was a blank screen.  I cannot boot into the Bios.

I have been on the HP Website and tried the following:

1.  Removing battery and cables and pressing down the power button for 1 minute.  Then, replacing cables and booting.

2. Holding down the Windows key PLUS the B key and then the power key for 1 second and allowing the machine to boot into bios and restore the bios.   Those were the details I got some the HP website on my specific machine.

So, far nothing has worked.  I have heard it could be a problem with the motherboard.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Is it possible to boot into the BIOS from this situation?

Many thanks

Jake Shiraz

NB: In case anyone is thinking how I know the BIOS is corrupted it has a light which flashes intermittently next to the Capitals lock and another at the top right-hand part of the keyboard.

So, i as using windows 8 Rtm. I had installed the windows 7 drivers for my Sony Vaio VGN-AR730e, which has an Nvidia GeForce 8400m Gt graphics card. Everything was fine for a few days, and then it shut off. When I turned it back on, the opening splash screen before windows (i'm aware bios isn't viewable anymore, shame...) had green lines going halfway through the screen, and every screen that has the blinking cursor at the top left also has a lot of apostrophes all over the screen.

I tried getting the 302.80 nvidia graphics card and it says it won't work, as well. I can't install any other operating system other than windows 8, nothing else will load. What did windows do to my computer?

I was experimenting with my brothers desktop. It seemed like it was running well. Still one of his drives an SATA Samsung wasn't displaying it's icon on the my computer screen that shows you which devices are attached. Either he accidently shorted the drive cause he refused to use a surge suppressor. Still the main drive worked o.k.

Sadly his desktop was purchased used. So the seller had no recovery disks or an original Vista Pro operating system disk in the event the files became corrupt. I recall his system started having problems after I installed HandBrake to convert video to mp4. I also installed
DVD43 to decrypt movie discs. I'm not sure if those warez were compatible with Vista.

My brother had installed an EVGA 8800 gtx PCI-e graphics which I updated the drivers for it.
He mainly wanted it for gaming and editing video. I had read that updating the bios chipset drivers could increase performance and eliminate hardware incompatibilities. I think his OS was an OEM version which sucks.

Finally using my neighbors Wi-Fi I went to the chipset maker to update his motherboard chipset drivers and or bios update or firmware i'm confused. The site had an online updater
to assist with the install. The motherboard developer was MSI so I went directly to their site. I knew there was risk updating the firmware, but I decided to take the risk.

It started updating it automatically backed up the current bios firmware. Then cautioned to proceed with the... Read more

Hello guys!                   This is Kamesh. And I own a Lenovo B490 (20205) laptop that was provided by Govt. of TN. I had the B460 before. I tried to update the correct BIOS on B460 that was downloaded from Lenovo IN site. And it worked perfectly without any problem. The Govt. of TN logo disappeared and the normal Lenovo Logo appeared on B460. So this is fine. Now that I have the B490 and I tried the same. I downloaded the BIOS update from Lenovo IN site by inputting my Laptop serial number and it showed my laptop as Lenovo B490 which is correct. So, I saw that the BIOS update was available. I decided to download and install it. I had Windows 10 64 bit in my Laptop. I installed it and I started the BIOS update it showed me the usual warnings such as Connect AC adapter. I did all the things (I've previous experience of updating the BIOSes). So, it started to flashing the BIOS and after some time the laptop didn't turn on. Found out that the BIOS didn't post. The screen was complete black. I have no copy of previous working BIOS. Now that my Laptop won't post. I tried many methods on internet to recover the BIOSes. I tried the WinCrisis.exe method and found out that it works only with Phoenix BIOS. And I have Insyde BIOS. Please let me know if you can help me with this. Do any one of you have backup of the Govt. of TN BIOS backup? If so, how can I recover the BIOS and reset it to normal state. I was having issues with Windows crashing when waking up from sleep. Everything seemed to point to driver issues, and while chasing that down I deleted several Acronis drivers from the registry. Acronis had been uninstalled, but left some artifacts behind. When I rebooted I got an Boot Manager error - basically not found.

I ran Windows startup repair 2-3 times without effect.

Windows recovery shows 2 recent backups are present, but neither is visible from the Restore window.

Tried to repair the MBR from Partition Wizard (8.1) and although it was successful Windows still doesn't boot. PW shows the partition is present and active but not as boot.

Happy Monday . Any ideas?

A:Boot manager corrupted - Windows fails to boot

Are you saying that after editing the Registry Win7 will not start? This can be fatal if you didn't save a System Restore point before messing with the registry.

Try a System Restore from System Recovery Options as far back as necessary.

If that fails confirm that Win7 or it's System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) is Partition Marked Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

If that doesn't help then everything that can possibly be done is here for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot leading up to if necessary rescuiing any files before running Recovery or doing the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

You will get and keep a perfect install for exactly as long as you stick with the tools and methods in that tutorial, as proven by over a million consumers who have used it without a single complaint.

Windows XP corrupted boot.ini and hal.dll missing, will not boot [SOLVED]

Hello,
I am having a problem booting my windows xp dell inspiron 700m. When I try to boot windows, it flashes "corrupted or missing boot.ini" for a split second, and then displays the message "System could not locate hal.dll" or something to that effect. I must have corrupted the MBR or the boot record and maybe even the partition tables. I went into windows recovery console, and did FIXMBR and FIXBOOT with no success. It is my understanding that windows recovery console should pull up a list of windows installs to choose from to fix. That did not come up, as it went straight to the C:\ recovery console prompt. Therefore the system seems to be unable to detect a windows install. I confirmed this by trying to use a windows xp upgrade, and it said that it couldn't detect any previously installed versions of windows and therefore would not update.

I can provide further laptop specs on request.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

And technical language is welcome, I am computer-proficient.

Has anyone found a Driver Pack for SCCM deployment of an HP 1040 G3? There's Windows 10 and Windows 7, and the individual Windows 8.1 drivers are on the driver page for the device, but no driver pack. Super frustrating.

A:HP 1040 G3

all available driver packs are listed at http://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_Driverpack_Matrix_x64.html THere are driver packs for windows 10/64 and 7/64. Another method is to create your own driver pack with SDM (www.hp.com/go/sdm). You can then add only the drivers you want and potentially make smaller packs

In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this *problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.*

Somehow with guidance from Lenovo Community, I solved the problem.

For future reference:
1. Take out HDD, battery, plug off ac power.
2. Restart, change SATA Controller in BIOS to compatible, restart.
3. Check whether the SATA Controller is Compatible or AHCI. If Compatible, force shutdown laptop.
4. Put back HDD, boot with Windows 7 Recovery CD or Installation Disc.
5. Choose Autostartup Repair.
6. Restart.

Im working on a Toshiba Laptop A105-4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS, so I didnt know what else to do but shut it off. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows. Other options available on this screen are Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar changing to "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53; (looks like its running POST and recognizes CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. - shorting out the CMOS battery (I've tried this on the solder pads marked C88, with no laptop battery, with and without the wi-fi, ram and hdd installed; Im either doing it wrong or its just not working )
- trying to reflash BIOS chip (I tried this; turned the laptop on and held down the 'c' key to boot from cd, but still got stuck at the same place)

Hi There,

I just built a desktop with a sabertooth x79 motherboard, and am running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit. When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.

Any ideas? I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.

I am now on an ASRock P64 Extreme4 motherboard. I mention the old mobo because the problem has been the same regardless. So I link the issue to the GPU.

Anywho, the new Galaxy card on boot, displays it's own Bios information before the mobo Bios page shows up. It's actually the first thing I see on my monitor. It just simply displays Galaxy Bios version (etc. etc. etc). It doesn't last for more than 3-4 seconds, but I personally feel it's an unnecessary delay. Especially since I'm so adamant about computer efficiency and I try to get my boot up times as fast as possible. Just a personal hobby I enjoy! So I was curious if there is a way to disable this initial Bios screen? I did many google searches and couldn't find the problem to a a perfect description. Some people did mention that it has to do with a motherboard conflict, but that's why I mentioned bother motherboards. One was old, and the one I'm on now is brand new. I've never purchased a Galaxy card until now, so I'm curious if it's unique to their brand? I've never updated Bios on a video card before and I'm not sure if it'd cure the problem either. Anyone familiar with this situation? Thank you!
