A:the touchpad of probook 4540s i5 freezes after sometime

Hello zamsam,

I understand that your touchpad will freeze.

Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.

This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.

If the entire test passes, turn off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

Hello, I am having some problems with my TouchPad on my notebook. Firstly, the TouchPad doesn't react at all sometimes. This usually happens when it's locked, then after unlocking it starts to work properly. Which is worse is that the "left" and "right" buttons often switch unexpectedly, i. e. the "left" button is suddenly working as a "right" button and vice versa. I bought my notebook three weeks ago so it's basically brand new and I wasn't really expecting to have trouble with it so early. I would appreciate any kind of help, thank you.

It might be software problem (driver) because when i restart my computer touchpad works properly. Problems occured just about 3 months ago. I'm also waiting for some feedback. Thanks.

I have an HP Probook 6550b, i5 processor, 8 gigs ram, running win7 64b. A couple mornings ago, while using the computer, the touchpad and mouse keys (two pair, one below the keyboard and one below the touchpad) stopped working. Checked the settings in Control Panel, TP is activated. I reinstalled a fresh driver from HP with no luck. BIOS is reporting "No mouse found" on boot. The mouse still moves with the controller nipple in the middle of the keyboard. USB mouse works fine. Last night, all of a sudden, the touchpad and buttons started working again. I understand on some laptops the TP can be disabled by function keystroke or tapping the upper left corner of the pad but that is not an option on this model, at least as far as the user manual states. Ny question: is turning off the touchpad something I did and, if it happens again, how do I turn it back on?

How do I disable the touchpad on my ProBook 6460b? I do a lot of wordprocessing, and having the cursor relocate whever I accidentally brush the touchpad is near crippling. I've googled, and checked through the forums here and elsewhere, and none of the recommendations I've found seem to apply. -there is no little white spot/button at the upper left corner to double tap. -When I go to Control Panel>Mouse, the touchpad is listed as "PS-2 compatible mouse" and there is no option I can find to disable it. Under Device Manager, I have the option to Uninstall the driver, but not to disable it. Also, somebody tell the HP hardware designers that having an easily identifiable switch, a hardware one preferably, to disable the touchpad is a HUUUUUUUGE plus. The lack of such presents a clear danger of making me never buy HP again.

I am unable to use my laptop's touchpad and keyboard. Even my mouse is operational only when the windows is loaded. Meaning, during the booting time when i wish to change the booting option, at that time i am unable to use even my mouse. Which otherwise is the only outside device used via usb port. Earlier there was issue of BIOS application, which was corrupted, which not is visible when i just boot, meaning thereby, the button namely f1 or f8 is operation at the time of booting, but unable to do any change in the booting options which are visible when i just boot my laptop. Though with the help of USB i am able to work on my externally attached keyboard. What should be done to cure this issue this is persistently bothering me for last 15 days. I am unable to make my laptop's touchpad and keyboard operational. 1 thing more only Tab is operational and opening and closing bracket keys work that is it. And as i said now only f1 or f8 works during the booting, nothing else. Please get me out of this trouble. I've trying for many days. But unable to get rid of this issue.

#1 For some reason my touchpad on my HP 15 (2015 model with 8.1, now upgraded to Windows 10 1511) freezes. I hate that when it happens, you cant use it for 20 or 30 seconds or so. I close my lid and open it back up and it works normal, but then after a little bit it starts doing it again. My driver is up to date, I think it maybe Synaptics? If I need to give more info, please say!

#2: When I scroll on my touchpad up words it opens the start menu every so often when I am scrolling a lot, but when I didn't even open or even get near it or press Windows key. What is causing this? I hate it when it does this and screws up my readings then it stops scrolling and focuses more on the start menu then I have to click out of the menu and go back to what ever I was doing.

I have this Hp Probook 4540s i3(windows 8, 64bit) for about a year and it was working fine but recently, I noticed that it had a problem. At times, the touchpad would freeze and I wouldnt be able to use it for a few seconds. At first this wasnt much of a problem due to the fact that I had an external mouse but now im travelling more often so this became a problem. I was jsut wondering if anybody knew what caused this problem and if they do, if there were any quick fixes towards it.

A:Touchpad Freezes

Go to the HP driver support for your model and get the latest drivers for the touch-pad.
You might have to find out who makes that touch-pad and get it from the manufacturer
Or see if there is Windows update for it.
Did you update to Windows 8.1 yet?
Also there are known issues with Windows 8 and some touch-pads know working correctly.

I had to send my Dell Inspiron 1420 off to get the Nvidia Chip replace. They pulled the mother board and fixed it and reinstalled it. When I got it back I had to reload the HD with W7-64 due to wiping it thinking that was the problem instead of the chip. It had XP before if that matters. Now my touchpad will work briefly then freezes for a couple seconds then works for a couple then freezes again. I've tried reloading everything. I tried it in safe mode. When I boot to my W7 cd it seems to work. I've tried running the cd and letting it repair anything it wants but it doesn't help. Maybe they screwed something up fixing the Nvidia chip?? Any ides? Thanks.

Your problem is Dell only supports xp and 32 bit vista - Drivers & Downloads

If your W7 DVD has both 64bit and 32 bit i would advice you to install 32bit W7 then you could use the 32bit drivers on the above link - this is where it sends me when i click on w7 (below) and then when i click on drivers under table of contents it returns you to the first link. In step 3 it says use vista drivers which will work if you can install w7 32 bit - link:

Looking for Windows 7 Drivers? | Dell Asia Pacific

You may need to install some drivers in compatibility mode if they wont install normally - use windows update firstly:

To install a driver/program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

On the other hand you might find a 64 bit compatible driver by just entering its name eg (more details if possible) need a touchpad 64bit driver for my Dell inspiron 1420 in bing or google search.

I recently did a factory restore using the discs that came with my HP laptop. Since doing this my mouse feezes during the booting up process. I tried uninstalling the synaptics touchpad driver and letting Windows install its generic mouse driver. It still does not work after about 15 seconds into the booting process. The only thing that has changed since I took it out of the box (a couple years ago) is that the motherboard was swapped about 5 months ago. Prior to the factory disc fomat and install the touchpad worked fine. I usually keep an optical mouse with me as it is easier to use but, now I only have that as my only option. The laptop is a HP Pavillion ze4240. I have a seperate problem with my wireless card which is why I tried the factory setup. Did not fix that either.

Where can we get the "REAL" drivers from? The synaptics site is very vague about what is in the zip file. They have a new CEO - maybe he will help get things worked out. Hi,I have a V3-112P just few months old. The touchpad started to freez few weeks ago and is very irritating. Nothing helped sofar.Reading the pages here I see there are many others with same problem and seems like there is no solution since late 2014. This is my 5th Acer since 2005 and until last one Aspite 1830T i had before i always was very satisfied, but problems started with the 1830T. Same problem freezing touchpad. As i couldnt find a solution and I was happy with Acer I bought the later one V3-112P but it has same problem. In case the problem remains this will be last Acer I have bought.

A:Aspire V3-112P and the touchpad freezes

In this case, you are advised to reinstall touchpad drivers for your model and check if that works. To download the latest drivers, you can follow the steps below:1. Go to Type Aspire V3-112P in the box below "Search by Product Model" and click "Search".3. Once your product details are displayed, go to "Driver" tab.4. Click "Download" besides your touchpad drivers and follow on-screen instructions to download and install the same. Hope this will help you.

I've spent hours and hours searching the web, including techsupportguy, but I cannot find any clue that leads me to an answer. I would love some help!!
My vanilla-flavour Gateway laptop (XP) works perfectly - until I print more than 1 or two pages on the HP All-in-one. Some time during the printing process the touchpad freezes; well, almost - the cursor moves a mm or two and bounces back to almost where it came from. I have waited and waited for it to cure itself but it never does. The only solution is to close and restart.

I have experimented by keeping the printer turned off and simply letting the OS spool waiting for the printer. All is fine until I turn the printer on - it prints and then the cursor freezes again. I can normally print one page OK, and after a while print another. Sometimes the problem occurs with just one page, so I suspect that the problem is caused by the amount of data going to the printer rather than the number of pages.

A:Solved: touchpad freezes after printing

I should also have said the following: when the cursor freezes the tray icon for the touchpad constantly shows that the touchpad is being touched even though it isn't. I am just not technical enough to begin to guess how printing can interfere with (to me) a seemingly unconnected peripheral.

Hi all,

When writing for a while (using the keyboard) without any rule-based touchpad icon character appears on the screen, and occasionally temporary freezing appears.

At the same time I use a USB mouse, and I disabled the touchpad using the Fn-F9 Tin order to eliminate the problem.
Disable USB mouse using the internal touchpad to be marked in the option menu Control Panel ->Mouse.

Synaptics currently installed driver version dated 11.03.2010.
I also tried drivers installing at later date, but don?t get a good result.

I have tried the suggested solutions but it did not work this link:

A:Satellite R630-105 - touchpad temporally freezes

As I understood your issue, the touchpad icon appear while typing and this can be solved temporally disabling the touchpad pressing the FN +F9.
Is this correct?

In my knowledge you can disable the touchpad while typing by choosing the option in Control Panel ?> Mouse -> Pointing device tab (in some cases its Advanced tab) -> Setting button

There is area called ?Operations during key input?
And there you can choose the option is called ?Disable tapping? and ?Disable scroll function?

Good morning, I've entered dozens of websites trying to figure out how to change this. If i'm pressing any button on the keyboard, the touchpad freezes. My OS is windows 10 home, the notebook is the ideapad 310 15ISK, i've tried to go into sinaptics conf of the touchpad, but there isn't the menu as there are in others notebooks, there are only a few options about rotation, zoom, scrolling, movements with multiple fingers etc. I noticed that on the configurations of the system there is an option where I select the delay of the touchpad after typing, and I've chose no delay, so after less than 2 secs it comes back to normal, but it still freezes while typing, and I'd really like to change that. How can I do that?Oh, and I believe it's worth mentioning that I'm from Brazil. I've put a print from the configs.By the way, there is this bar... "Controle da palma" that would mean "Palmcheck", but it is disabled... I belive it would solve this situation, how could I manage to turn it on??

One suggestion I've has is to update my drivers from the Synaptics website, however my driver is newer than the ones on their site.

Any help would be appreciated,

A:Compaq - Touchpad Mouse Freezes Whilst Typing

maybe bios is not up to date with the sp update-often happens with touch pads

often can fix it by going to mouse control/touch pad and resetting everything ie tick and untick to "remind" windows it has to use your driver

My cursor is behaving erratically.

There are two possible solutions to this problem:
If your TouchPad is dirty, use a small amount of ammonia-based window cleaner on a clean cloth and gently wipe the surface of the TouchPad to remove any dirt or grime. Having a clean TouchPad surface usually eliminates erratic pointer movement.
The TouchPad driver may need to be updated. Download the appropriate Synaptics driver from the manufacturer's support site. Uninstall the driver that is not working and then install the downloaded driver.

I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

I am super going bananas from my Dell Inspiron 700m. I think it may be my fault as I will soon explain but let's first get to the problem. I am extremely tempted to throw it against the wall at times. The touchpad mouse and keyboard freezes simultaneously right in the middle of either playing a game or just using the computer for other non-game activities.

The mouse will freeze and I won't be able to type anything at all for a period of a few minutes. When the mouse works again, it may behave erratically for a few seconds and then start functioning again normally. The keyboard freezes and will behave normally once the mouse works again; but, if I touch either before the keyboard returns, then it may cause the keyboard to behave erratic and remain that way forcing me to restart the computer.

As I stated before, I believe it may be my fault. I have tons of music files on my computer and my hard drive is nearly tapped for space. I'm praying it's not a hardware problem b/c I don't have the money to get it repaired. I am a single mom with a very expensive son and can't afford any alternatives. I hope someone can help me find a solution to the problem within reason.

I have a recurring problem: many times, on a daily basis, usually after opening the lid of my laptop or turning the computer on after hibernate/sleep, the built-in keyboard and touchpad stops reacting!

This problem started or severed from the time I updated all drivers of the computer (using Driver Booster 3.5).

To reactivate my keyboard/touchpad again I have to hibernate the reopen the computer.

Recently I have bought my Dell Latitude E5470 laptop and from the beginig I have annoying touchpad issue :(
When trackpoint and touchpad are active at the same time, cursor freezes for 3-5 seconds and moves to the left at a small angle. When trackpoint is disabled, cursor freezes for 3-5 seconds and doesn't move at all. If I use touchpad actively, this happens each minute or two.
I have checked this situation from the BIOS and the case looks slightly different, but still the same.
Please, help me to solve my problem. Thank in advance!

I have no idea how to fix this. Every time I press a button on the keyboard, my mouse freezes for a second or so. When I hold a button, the mouse won't move until a second after I let go. This is really annoying, because if I try to run any games like SRB2, I can't walk and look at the same time. I didn't put this in the Gaming forum, because it also affects outside of games too.

Is there any way I can fix this? I'll give information if asked.

Every spyware and virus detection says this computer is clean but something is eating the Ram such that the pointer stalls and must "rest" for 3-5 seconds before it can be moved again. Keyboard commands seem to work fine. Disc has been cleaned, defraged. Hard drive is only used at 15% capacity. Any ideas on what else we can try?

Just got a brand-new Precision Mobile Workstation 7510 about a week ago. Out of the box and prior to installing any updates or new software, the touchpad will, randomly every minute or so, stop responding to input, and the cursor would very slowly inch itself (usually creeping slightly up and to the right). This would occur for anywhere from a few to 10 or so seconds before the touchpad would start working again. No change in the past week.
The pointer stick works as normal during the time the touchpad is not responding.
I have tried all of the suggestions I found recommended or could think of:

Reinstalling Windows from the factory image (did this twice)
Reinstalling the driver (I already had the latest one, but I both reinstalled it and then deleted it and reinstalled a freshly-downloaded version from the most recent version provided on
Disabling the pointer stick
Disabling gestures
Unplugging all peripherals, including the AC adapter
Rebooting in Safe Mode (still occurs, though perhaps the normal touchpad driver is still loaded in Safe Mode)

I was about to call Dell (I have Pro Support) thinking that it is a hardware problem, but interestingly, there is no sign of the problem in the mouse-enabled Dell GUI BIOS set-up screen. I would assume that if it were a hardware issue, it would still show up there.
FWIW, the Dell touchpad icon in the system tray sometimes, but not always, displays touchpad input in the center of the touchpad when this occurs. The cursor move... Read more

A:Precision 7510 touchpad periodically freezes, cursor moves on its own

If you haven't done so I suggest uninstalling the touch pad driver altogether and then test.  Does the problem still occur regardless that the driver has been removed or does the cursor stay put all of a sudden?
If you notice the problem still even with the driver uninstalled I suggest a service.  If the course starts behaving after uninstalling the touch pad driver replacing the touch pad may not make much of a difference if any.
I have sent out a friend request, If you are in the US I may be able to help process a service if needed.

Hi um... My notebook HP pavillion was working fine this morning, but when I came home two hours later my computer stopped functioning correctly. Before I left, I downloaded a program called Digsby that I had never used before and then left. When I came back my computer wouldn't stop "ding"ing and was spewing random letters and numbers. Alarmed, I forced shut off my computer. At the part where the computer asked me if I wanted to go into safe mode or start up correctly, I couldn't move anything, go up, or even press enter, so I had to wait before it loaded. After it'd load up, my touchpad wouldn't respond and I had to use an external mouse. Then I discovered that when typing, I also could not use the key Caps Lock, or else my whole keyboard freezes up. At that time, any keys would not function, including strangly the sound system in the computer. I've tried to use system restore to go back to an earlier time but that didn't help with anything at all. I ran Webroot Antivirus Spysweeper to no avial. Not until after I went back to the earliest time that I could and ran Webroot again did it find anything. But even after the virus got caught nothing still worked.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop that has issues. Sometimes the touchpad works, and sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed when it doesn't work, the icon in the tray has disappeared or never booted up to begin with. Sometimes it boots up and sometimes it just doesn't even boot up to the tray at all. And at other times, it does.
(Along with this, maybe it's just a coincidence, but I've been working on this for days and days but when the touchpad doesn't work, the keyboard acts up too!) This might have nothing to do with it at all.

I've done a complete reformat of the hard drive, installed Win XP Professional, reinstalled drivers over and over. Been to the Dell website and have all the newest drivers.
When I reinstall the touchpad drivers, it does work once again, but this seems to be short lived.
The laptop is 4 years old...seems strong otherwise, can handle multiple tasks fairly well, has a dual core installed.
I can't figure it out.
Can anyone help?

Thank you!!

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

We just got a Dell XPS-15z, and, we have questions about scrolling on the Cypress touchpad using the Cypress drivers.

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

Hi, I have HP Pavillion Slimline s3500f that is about 5 years old. Recently it won't turn on! The light in the back is on, but the whole thing won't power up. Once it powers up - everything runs smoothly-except that since that problem with turning on started-sometimes it would seem like it was turned on-but it didn't really come on on the monitor- so I had to unplug it and start again. It would become like that also when it was on for a longer period of time - like 3 hours or more..

I googled the problem and made sure cord and power strip are okay, I switched voltage selector red butten to and fro, I even opened it up and removed a lot of dust from the fan..still, it won't power up. It happened gradually, at first it took a few trials and then it would turn on, but for the past 3 days nothing works.
So I am thinking about replacing the power supply myself to save cost.

Before I do, I just want to make sure that I am on the right track; I mean if the green light in the back is on - but the pc won't turn on - it should be most likely power supply, am I correct?

The other problems that I mentioned in the 1st paragraph - do they also look like power supply-related? If it seems like something else besides power supply, then probably I should forget about fixing it. I have some data on this pc that I would like to get back - or somehow transfer to another computer...Just wondering, is it the end of it ...or should I try to revive it? Slimline overheat a... A:HP Slimline won't turn on

You could always take the hard drive out iand install it in another computer to retrieve the data you want. A slim line computer would likely take a power supply that is smaller than a standard ATX Power Supply, so replacement withone that will fit the case may be expensive.

I posted about a week ago about having power up problems with my 5 year old HP Slimline pc. The computer just wouldn't turn on even though the green light in the back was on.
So at one point I connected a laptop through usb cord to the front of my HPSlimline computer tower- and this miraculously made my old pc come alive. The light on the power button lights up orange- then all I have to do is press the button and it gets green and hp slimline is on.

It would not turn itself on in any other way.
It is as if I am resuscitating my old pc with a new laptop!
I am so glad it works--but-why is this happening???
Is this indicative of something??

It is as if my old pc needs a boost of power -or something-up front where the power button is.
I wanted to check if perhaps I can plug in anything that is on and can be connected through usb cord- so I connected the printer up front - but the printer does not make my old pc come alive. Only the laptop does it.

I have been reading on the internet about power-up problems and fixes but no one ever mentioned anywhere that a pc can power up in this way.

Of course, I am so glad I have this laptop and that I can turn on my pc in this weird way, but could anyone please try to explain what is going on with my computer/s??

Yes, they should work together.

However, forget that psu and go with this one:

For $10 more you can get an Antec Green that puts out 500w. Of course being a slimline you'll need to know the dimensions of a psu to see if it fits but 250W isn't enough.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530s (slimline) which I've had for about 4 years now, and I have done a little upgrading on it already. Unfortunately, since it is a slim case, this means I have my new power supply hanging out the back because it is too large to fit inside. I needed this massive power supply because I bought a 'low profile' nVidia GeForce 9600GT but obviously the power supply that came with the computer wasn't beefy enough.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've been given a very old computer in a normal sized case and I was wondering if it would be possible to move everything from the slim case to the fat one without having to buy any replacement parts? It's not a massive worry at the moment but the fact that there are bits hanging out the back make it awkward to move and I imagine it's not very good for it.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

I tried to add a second monitor using the DVI out on the computer. The primary monitor is VGA. I then went to the display settings but did not find a second monitor. I checked the monitor and it works. Appreciate any assistance to hook up a second monotor.  Cheers

A:Add second monitor to Pavillion Slimline

Hi Chicagobill, Looking at the system board there are two different kinds of DVI connectors, labelled 3 and 4 respectively below:  The difference between DVI-D and DVI-I is in the four pins that surround the flat blade - those four pins on the DVI-I conector are what carry the analog VGA signal. DVI-D can only carry digital signals and works only either with other DVI connections or HDMI. I would recommend double-checking your DVI-VGA cable and make sure all four pins are present. If any are missing (or all are) you will need to replace the cable.

I got the message that my computers the Slimeline s5710 was not compatible with Windows 10, without explaination. I summized that it was because of the graphics card.   I have looked into graphics cards and picked up an inexpensive one that is compatible to Windows 10, but it's now appearing that the graphics card is not compatable with the computer which only has a 220 watts power supply and the graphics card needs a 300 watts.  Does HP have a fix for this so I can upgrade my computer to Windows 10?

A:MS says that Windows 10 is not compatible with my Slimline s...

Hi: HP is never going to provide W10 support/drivers for your PC, or they would have done that a year ago. What model graphics card did you get? I don't know of one that lists anything less than a 300W P/S being recommended/required, but depending on the model of the card, you may be able to use it in your PC. The key is knowing what the maximum wattage draw of the particular card you install that is important. I have a AMD Radeon HD 6450 running an a HP business SFF desktop with a 240W P/S and AMD recommends a 400 W P/S.  But the card draws less than 30 Watts, so there is no problem. HP offers the HD 6450 as an optional card in their 8200 Elite SFF model with a 240W P/S. Also, looking at the specs for your PC, I see it comes with the ATI Radeon Integrated graphics adapter. You may be able to manually install the W7 driver from the support page and get that to work. You can bypass any no go warnings by making the W10 installation DVD from the link below, run it from the Windows desktop, skip the check for updates and install W10 that way. I can't guarantee it will work, but you should be able to roll back to W10 within 30 days as long as you don't delete the windows.old folder that will be created.

My hp pavilion won't turn on. I tried the different solutions from the hp support page but nothing works. When I plug the power cord in, the green light near the power supply turns solid. Afterwards, I would click the power on button but the computer doesn't turn on and the green turns off. I have no clue what to do at this point.

When I press the on button, the blue light comes on. That is all! Nothing else, just the blue light. Nothing on the monitor at all. If I turn the monitor off and then back on, it tells me there is no video input. This is an HP Pavilion Slimline s7410n.
thanks for your help!

We fixed the problem! We found help at this site and followed their instructions. My husband also took out the CD driver box to reseat all the connectors. The computer started right up and has worked fine ever since!

I have an HP Pavilion Slimline 400-034 refurbished computer purchased April 6.  Had to purchase refurbished due to very limited budget and this was the best deal we could find. My DH shut down the computer yesterday and now today it won't turn on.  I have followed the troubleshooting steps here on the HP website and have discovered the following:- the green power LED is off until you unplug the power cord and plug it back in- the green power LED stays on until the power button the the front of the computer is pressed, and then it immediately shuts off and nothing happens- the green power LED will not come back on right away if the power cord is unplugged and plugged back in immediately.  If I wait a few minutes and try again it will do the same thing as before: light up, then go off when the power button is pressed. Any ideas what I should do here?  It is not under any type of warranty of any kind.  Should I call HP support or someone else?  I'm devastated - tried to save money and make a wise choice and now I feel like that was a horrible decision.

Hi, Does anyone know what type of mounting brackets I need to purchase to put a 2.5" SSD drive into an HP Slimeline s3507c? The SSD is 2.5" and the hard-drive bay is 3.5" pull-out. If you visit this webpage,, and scroll down to "Installing the Hard Drive", you can see the hard-drive bay of my computer.I have tried the standard SSD to 3.5" inch bay adapters and the screws don't match up. This one doesn't work: I have the SSD mounted with duct-tape right now, but there has to be a better way.Thank you Melanie

A:Mounting SSD into HP Slimline s3507c

Hi, Melanie: Take a look at this one and see if it would work... The way I see it, is that you attach the bracket to the original bracket with the 4 screws in step 2 of the HDD installation guide. And you position and secure the SSD anywhere along the 4 long mounting areas on the interior of the bracket. Does that look right to you?

Hey All, My grandparents purchased a HP Slimline 400-034 from Bestbuy (refurb, sigh), and it suddenly won't power up now after owning it for 4 months. When I plug in the Power Cables to the PSU, the light is green. When I hit the Power Button, the CPU fan quickly spins, but the computer will not power up. I'm quite certain the PSU is good since it has the green light on the back, and the CPU fan spins briefly. I've unplugged the CD-ROM, and USB ports in the front to reduce power load, but it still won't power on. Is the Mobo done, or is there something else I can try? Thanks in advance!

Follow the steps in the guide. My opinion is the power supply is BAD. Those PSU's are TFX.The HP site gives a measurement 7.9 x 3.3 x 2.1 "  NewEgg has replacements here and here

I have a set of recovery disks and trying to do the process on a new hard drive. The problem is the Slimline VGA port does not work natively and the Video Card has no drivers to allow me to connect via hdmi. How do you perform the recovery when you cannot get the video going?

I am trying to install XP on a partitioned drive. I don't have recovery discs and pressing F10 at startup doesn"t work. I already reinstalled XP once but the hard drive was partitioned with the letters H and I. How can I change these to C and D. I am willing to reinstall XP again if It will fix this. I don't even need a partition since the recovery partition doesn"t seem to work anyway. Please help. Thanks.

A:trying to reformat HP Pavillion slimline

If the factory recovery partition is missing, damaged or corrupted, and you don't have a set of recovery CDs, you can order a set from HP. The set of Recovery CDs will automatically install all the correct motherboard device drivers too, which is much better than installing a "vanilla" copy of Windows then having to download & install all the drivers manually.

hello All! So I have this small desktop

is has this motherboard, which is dead. I researched this mobo and found out this particular model has a problem with the GPU, and HP would fix it for free. The thing is, I bought the computer from a rental place, and the serial number sticker had been scraped off, and HP refuses to help me without a serial number.

So my question is, could another mobo fit inside this case, such as this
if so would I need a more powerful psu?

thanks in advance.

I want to preface that I didn?t buy my ?cheap? computer as a gaming machine (i.e., stickied thread above). I?ve got an Xbox 360 for that. But as with all things I own, I just want to get the most bang out of it. Unfortunately, I?m somewhat noobian when it comes to building computers so please bear with me.

I?ve got an HP Pavillion Slimline s3223w. I?m almost certain it?s got a 160 watt psu. Would anyone know if I might run into problems running this Chaintech 8600GT? It would seem that this is the most powerful card I can run without blowing up my computer.

I do not have the link handy, but a breakdown of a huge list of video cards suggested that the Nvidia 8600GT PCI-E only took up just less than 30W. Although this one is a GDDR2 and not a 3 I believe. Am I mistaken in thinking it will work on my cheap machine?

For what it?s worth I?m running Windows XP Pro SP2 and maxed out on 2 GB of RAM.

Thanks for any feedback.

A:Slimline & Chaintech 8600GT PCI-E x16

One of these would be all I would consider, and they may even be pushing it, considering heat and power issues.

Hi there, firstly may i just say i am not overly computer literate so i apologise in advance.

I am having issues with my WEI and my graphics card in general, i was told (mis-informed) upon purchase that this maching would be ok for gaming, especially if i upgraded the graphics card. From searching google i can see its not so simple for the slimline. Can anyone advise in terms i can understand? I have attached my WEI.

I struggle to play games due to severe graphics problems.

(i have also attached the spec)

Thanks in advance.

A:HP Slimline - Graphics/Wei problem.

I don't know what system you exactly have. But, most HP systems are built around price points. So they do anything and everything they can to shave money off to make a profit at that particular price point. You want a $499 computer done, a $699 one? Done, but don't expect to be able to upgrade the 499 one later to match the 699 one, because chances are the Motherboard doesn't have the required expansion slots, and the power supply is probably too weak to add peripherals. Again without knowing what your system specs it's hard to say. What you can do is see if it has a PCIe 16x(preferably 2.0) slot, and has a power supply 400W or more (bare minimum 350W). If it does, you may be able to get a decent graphics card for $50-60 dollars or even more if you really want it to perform.

Edit another problem with the slim cases is they lack room to install a decent board even if it does have teh other prerequisites. Make sure to buy one that has the mini bracket, measure the lenght and make sure it fits lenghtwise too.

I am getting ready to purchase a new computer. I was wondering what the opinion on this one is. I use my computer mostly for internet, pictures, and a little gaming.

A:HP Slimline s3700y Desktop

You can get one customized as you like it ...

or with an intel processor ..

I prefer to build my HPs the way I want .. not as shipped to the stores.

But I've heard that the Slimlines fail often due to the small packaging and the resulting heat build up.

If you can, you might want to wait awhile ... Vista will be obsolete soon and replaced with Windows 7.
It's a guess, but this is expected to happen near the end of this year.
On the other hand .. Who wants anything new from Microsoft ???
