Folio 9470m DUAL Display Port on HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking S...

Q: Folio 9470m DUAL Display Port on HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking S...

So i'm using a Folio 9470m at work on a 2013 Ultraslim Docking station with 2 Display Port connectors, but if i attach two screens to those it only displays them as one device and mirrors the image on both screens. Furthermore if i go into the screen and resolution settings, both identify as screen 1, but i can set 3840x1080 instead of 1920x1080 and at that moment the picture will span over both screens as one. The downside to this is that the login screen, windows i open for the first time, they're all gonne appear in the middle where the bezels are, it handles them as one bigger screen and not as 2 screens that extend each other. I need them to be detected as 2 seperate screens, and so far i have had no success. Has anyone experienced this or knows a solution? I really don't want to connect the second screen via VGA. Can the folio handle 2 display port connections on a dock? Is this maybe the cause?

As far as I know the Folio 9470m doesnt support more then one external display. I think you can verify this by having a look at the quickspec document for the model.

I am experiencing the following issue and hope that someone in the forum as an idea / suggestion. When I have the screen connected via via display port cable with the docking station and I have my laptop docked, I dont get any signal and the screen keeps black. This is independent of the Operating System - I used Windows 7, Windows 8. When my laptop is docked but I attach the display port cable directly to the laptop it works without any problem. I have also realized that with other displays 23'' or 24'' the setup with the docking station works without a problem. So it has to be a cominbination between UltraSlim Docking Station and ZR2740w screen. Any advise what else should be tried?

Update: After calling HP technical support I and being bounced among various clueless offshore tech support reps, I finally landed on the US-based workstation support department. Justin looked up the problem and identified it as a known issue and is replacing my monitor cable with one that HP says will work. Also, in the meantime there is a workaround that I had figured out. If you don't use the displayport port on the ultraslim docking station but pug the cable directly into the computer it works fine. There is some inconvienence associated with this as you have to plug it in every time you dock and unplug it every time you undock (and of course the cable always falls behind the desk while you are doing this), but it is okay as a solution while I am waiting for the new cable to arrive. Will update this post after it arrives and report whether it works.

When trying to use a Displayport to VGA or a Displayport to DVI cable to connect from an HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking station to an external display, the display comes up with no signal and goes to sleep. Connecting with a VGA cable, it works fine. We were able to replicate this issue with multiple new, fresh out of the box docking stations. The issue happens on any monitors that we connect, even ones that work with other docks. It seems to be the Intel Displayport Topology is picking up the display and making it so that the displayport cannot be activated without connecting 3 monitors. The older version of the Ultraslim Docking station that only had 1 displayport seems to work just fine, it's just the newer 2013 version that has 2 displayports that has this issue. Does anyone know if there is any newer firmware or where I can disable/stop the Displayport Topology from picking up this one monitor and trying to make it 3 displays? If not, we're probably going to have to go back to USB adapters and those are no fun. Thanks,Andrew System info:HP Elitebook 840 G1, G2, and G3 (Issue has occured with all 3 models.)Windows 7 Enterprise x64HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking StationDock Firmware 2.30Updated Graphics, Chipset and USB drivers to latest version from HP's website.

Hello, I do dock an Elitebook 840 G1 on the ultraslim 2013 docking station. To connect my 2 screens (DVI input) I use a DisplayPort -> DVI cable. Basically this works. But if I resize a window (webbrowser) it takes several seconds (!) to update the content of this window on the screen.Example: google.com start page, search field is centered on page, if I resize the window the place of the search field must be updated, and this takes up to 10 seconds.-> Impossible to work. If I connect only 1 screen on displayPort of docking station -> same problem. If I connect 1 screen directly on laptop displayport -> OK (even with 2nd screen on VGA of laptop -> ok) Is the reason the DisplayPort->DVI cable?Should I use another cable? Which one?Should I buy new monitors with DisplayPort input? Can you guarantee that this will work?Does anybody use this docking station with 2 screens with DisplayPort -> DVI cable? The docking station is completely useless if this does not work. So any tip will be appreciated!Thank you and best regards,Roger

Greetings everyone, I have been having a really annoying problem where my laptop disconnects the monitor connected to the display port through the docking station pretty regularly. For the longest time it just wouldn't show any picture to the display port connected monitor. I could see it in screen resolution but the monitor could not get a signal. I fixed this (or so I thought) by going through the intel drivers. I just came back from lunch after locking the machine for about an hour and was running into the same issue as before; the drivers could see the monitor but it wasnt pushing a signal. This is a brand new Enterprise W7 x64 image with all the drivers, I've tried different docking staitons, different monitors, different cables. I've installed drivers and reinstalled drivers. I've gone through pretty much everything I could think of and I'm still getting the issue. Does HP have a fix for this? I'd really appreciate some guidance here.

We have around 530 of these in the company and we are having a repeated number returned to our Support team as the USB ports are failing. The error showing on the Laptops (all hp revolve 810's) is Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Its getting to the stage where it is costly to just replace them and we would love to know if anyone has a fix. Once one has failed it wont work on any of our laptops and all the 'usual' fixes are not working.

Hi everyone, My company is using HP Elitebook 840 G1.I want to connect the HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking station with my HP Elitebook 840 G1 to have 2 external monitor. However, using the VGA port and Display port from the docking station, I can only managed to get the VGA port to work. I tried using display port converter to DVI, does not work too. When I am using the laptop's VGA port and Display port, both screen are able to display with no issue. Is there any solution for me to get both the screen to work when I am using the docking station? Because if by connecting to the laptop itself, whenever I have a meeting I will need to disconnect all the cables and replug when I am back on my desk. This is redundant. Lastly, if i use a VGA splitter on the docking station, will it work? Your reply is greatly appreciated.

My company just provided us with new 840 notebooks and the ultraslim docking station. I have two monitors that hook up to the dock: one via VGA that works fine and the other via a DisplayPort cable which has problems with refreshing the screen contents. Here are my troubleshooting steps: 1) I have updated ALL drivers including the ADT display, Intel Graphics and the Ultraslim docking station to the drivers recommended on the HP site for the 840 notebook. This did not resolve the issue. 2) I then undocked the machine and hooked up both monitors to the ports on the notebook and both monitors work fine. This eliminates driver issues and also issues with the graphics card on the notebook.3) I redocked the notebook and hooked up only the VGA cable to the docking station leaving the DisplayPort cable hooked up to the notebook and both monitors work fine. This eliminates issues with the DVI cable.4) I switched out the DisplayPort cable and used a VGA cable on the same monitor and the monitor works fine. This eliminates issues with the monitor. Given the above, this is obviously a problem with the DisplayPort ports on the docking station and/or the firmware on the docking station. Since I've updated the firmware for the docking station (currently set at version 2.24 from 10/30/2014), I'm not sure what else to try. I can't update the BIOS on the notebook because it is locked down by ... Any help would be appreciated

A:BSOD When Using VPN on HP Folio 9470M

Hi BinaryStar0647.

Your BSODs are caused by Sunbelt Personal Firewall driver, a regular BSOD causer which is disconnected from the market from December 2011.

Seeing your files I realized that the drivers are used by some other thing, GFI Software Firewall.

And it is the driver that is failing here.

Trouble started with random system restarts anywhere from 2 to 60min after powering on. That lasted a few days. Than it got worse, it was stopping before system boot with error message: motherboard product information missing. After a soft or hard reset (can't remember now) it stopped displaying anything, only LEDs came on and fan run, all lasting about 5s. I tested RAM in other machine, OK. Pulled HD out, no difference. Put a different HD in, no difference. With DC disconnected and battery out I left CMOS battery disconnected overnight. Now it cycles: LEDs and fan come on for about 5s, all off for 1s and tries again. Any help will be appreciated... Best regards

A:PC3 vs PC3L memory for Folio 9470m

From the Service Manual: Two customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots DDR3 PC3-1600-MHz dual channel support Supports 16384-MB of system RAM in the following configurations: ? 16384-MB (8192-MB2) ? 8192-MB (8192-MB1 or 40962) The specified memory is 1.5 volt. DDR3L will run at either 1.35 or 1.5 volt but I generally avoid mixing voltages. That is why the DDR3L is working for you and I assume you have 2 of the same in the laptop with 8 gigs. Can you figure out what is in the 4 gig machine now? I would not mix voltages or density...i.e would not have one module with 8 black blocks and one with 4. Try to match the existing 4 gig module is what I am saying...not the exact brand of memory but the characteristics of it.

Hi, I work in tech support for a company and one of our enterprise laptops mysteriously has lost its "tattooed" information. The user who had this laptop left the company and when we went to wipe it we discovered this issue. Upon starting the machine the HP splash screen has in red text on the top left of the screen "Manufactoring Program Mode set 1 of 10" after the splash screen a "Product Information not Valid" screen appears. It reads: Product Information not validThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalidSYSTEM BOARD (00A)Product Name Product Serial NumberProduct SKUProduct FamilySystem Board CT NumberENTER - Continue Startup For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup I know that there is an HP utility tool to "tattoo" this information back onto the machine. As an enterprise that uses 95% HP equipment (our monitors, mouse, keyboards are the only non-HP equipment) I think that the tech support deserves these types of tools to troubleshoot issues. Sure the machine boots normally if you hit enter, but it's alarming/scandalous to be presented with that product information not valid screen when powering on a machine. Bonus points to whoever can provide some reasoning as to how this occurred.

Hi, I have a HP 2013 Ultra Slim Docking Station with Elitebook pro 840G1 but I can't display op either DP ports from the docking station when I connect my Dell 2516Q 4k monitor. When I plugin the DP cable directly on the laptop it works like a charm. Seem that the dockingstation doesn't support this monitor. Is there a firmware or driver I need to install to get this working? Thank you for the feedback and assistance. Jack

Hello, After upgrading from Win7 to Win10, my system got stuck when uninstalling MS Office, and nothing worked anymore (File Explorer etc.). I tried to make a factory reset, which got stuck, too, and no OS would be detected anymore. Then I tried to reinstall Win10 64 bit, which brought be a bit of trouble. I have an HP Folio 9470 with a 320 HDD and a 32 GB (I believe) mSATA. During my Win10 reinstall, I ran into trouble and then deleted all partitions on both drives and reformatted everything because I thought that was the method for a clean reinstall. First, I installed Win10 on the 320 HDD, but my BIOS did not appear to allow this (although harddisk was in the legacy boot options), which the Win10 installer had already warned me about, so I could not boot from my HDD and thus could not start Win10. Next, I reformatted everything and installed Win10 on my mSATA. However, the Win10 installer and later Windows 10 only showed a size of 11GB for the mSATA. The installation itself already took up 11GB and there was no space left for necessary drivers and updates, and Windows 10 malfunctioned. My feeling is that the mSATA was larger than just 11GB, but that a part of it is not shown any more after deleting partitions and reformatting. After multiple reinstalls, I do not know what to do any more. Any idea what how I might get a functioning version of Windows 10 on my HP Folio 9470m? Best regardsFrank

Hello Everyone, I have alot of the HP UltraSlim Docking Stations, pre the 2013 version. I was hoping to find a firmware upgrade for them. Currently I can find is the 2013 display port update. I need to have one for the older model of the docking station. The problem is similar to the 2013 docking stations and when using dual monitors the displays don't function properly. They turn off, flash etc. Has anybody found or now if any updates are available for the older model. Thanks

I got a new Elitebook along with the HP Ultraslim 2013 docking station. When I dock the notebook, none of the peripherals are recognized, including a VGA monitor, or USB mouse and keyboard. Only the Ethernet works. Even the power is not working. I have the Ultraslim powered, but it is not charging the battery. The docking station power button lights up after I dock the laptop. There is a power LED that is turned on near the power cord of the Ultraslim power port. I've tried to dock it, turn off the Ultraslim, then turn back on. No change. I've undocked - unplugged everything. Dock, then plug everything in and still no change. I'm not sure if there is some setup that has to be done for the dock, e.g. run the drivers, etc. Shouldn't this just be plug-And-Play? I have Windows 7 Professional on an Intel i7-5600U. Any help is appreciated.

Hi All, I have a brand new Elitebook 850g3 (T9X36EA), a HP Slimline dock (D9Y32ET) and two Dell P2415Qb 24" monitors. My aim is to extend my desktop to the two external Dell monitors whiclst still viewing the display on the EliteBook. The monitors are DP monitors with MST technology so am able to set one as a primary and one as a secondary. I can achieve my goal simply when the laptop is off the dock (See image)But on the dock I get nowhere with it. I noticed the dock had a firmware update on the drivers page which specifically talks about the DP functionality, but on running the update it tells me I am already running at the latest FW version on the dock. At best, I can extend my desktop to one Dell monitor which duplicates to the other. I know my cabling is setup correctly and that the equipment is ok as it works off the dock, I have been banging my head for a while now, so any help would be really appreciated. ThanksPaul

I have a new Folio 9470m running 64-bit Win7. I am attaching it to a UltraSlim Docking Station The ethernet port on the Folio works fine and I am able to connect to the LAN in the office without issue. However, when I connect the same Ethernet cable to the docking station and then place the Folio on the docking station I am *not* able to get a connection. The link lights on the docking station will not even blink. The docking station is connect to power and the lights are illuminated. I also have an external monitor, wireless mouse and a wireless headset connected to the docking station. All of these work flawlessly. Any suggestions? I am completely unable to find a driver for the folio that would be related to a docking station.

These docking stations do not have the dvi port so we have to have dvi to display port adapters. We have a lots of these c2g cables that are dvi to DisplayPort but only about 20% of the time the cable gets detected by the laptop when it's docked. The other 80% of the time the laptop does not see the monitor when it's connected to the dock. But when the cable is connected to the laptop itself it works fine. So we know it's a problem with dock. I called hp and we updated to firmware 2.3 and updated the video drivers but nothing work. Apparently there is a known problem with this docking and the displayport. Now the HP premium support technician L2 is saying hp does not support third party cabling companies and you have to use on of their cables and if you have trouble with one the hp cables/ adapter they will then look into it.Has anyone else ran into this? If there is a known problem with the docking station where it's not allowing other cables to work and only their cables to work now is that allow? Does anyone know of a brand of adapter/cable that works. We have tried other cables and adapter and keep having the same problem.

I also purchased 2 HDMI cables prior to receiving all three items thinking this is how I would connect the two monitors to the dock but the dock doesn't have HDMI ports. So now I am all confused on how I connect the two monitors to the docking station? Hello I've got an HP Folio 9470m together with the HP Ultraslim Docking Station (D9Y32AA#UUZ) featuring 2 DisplayPort connectors and a VGA connector. I would like to connect two digital screens to the docking station in extended mode. First I have tried to connect two screens with two DP to DVI adapters which didn't work. The screens have only been able to be used in clone mode (showing same screen content) but not in extended desktop mode. Then I thought this might be an issue of DP->DVI converters as the dock might not support this. So I bought 2 DP cables and tried multiple combinations:- 2x DP/DVI converter cable- 1x DP, 1x DP/DVI converter cable- 2x DP native Unfortunately none of the combinations worked in extended mode. The screen setup always falls back to clone mode. Intel Graphics setup menu also just shows selection between one external screen and "Monitor" (which is the laptop built-in screen). It actually works in extended mode only if I use 1 DP port and the VGA port on the docking station. So I can work in extended screen mode like this. But in year 2014 it's simply ridiculous having to connect FullHD+ screens via analog VGA. So I would like to know how to use these 2 DP connectors on the UltraSlim docking station. Even more strange I found that using the DisplayPort connector in conjunction with one of the DP connectors of the dock while docked it works in extended mode. So the laptop is able to handle it. Just the dock seems not to ... Read more

I can't seem to find the documentation I found on a forum but the intial batch of slim docking stations WILL NOT allow 2 dp at the same time. It is due to the architecture of the of the laptop and the docking station. In order for two dp at the same time, you will need to buy the 2013 one. (I will try to find the product number for you). Their workaround was to use VGA and DP at the same time, which you have already figured out. Update: Looks like the page is not found, however, the title says it all. http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product.aspx?sku=10731964&pagemode=ca "Alert: Dual display limitations of 2013 HP UltraSlim Docking Station with HP EliteBook Folio 9470m N..." Update #2: Found it attached. Can't upload pdf files

I have an Ultraslim docking station for my Folio 9470m ultrabook, and while the network and monitor ports work just fine, the USB ports don't seem to be working. When I connect an external keyboard to any of the 3 ports, and an external harddrive to the one USB port with power supply, neither of them is recognized and functioning. Plugging them into the ultrabook directly works just fine - but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a docking station in the first place! What can I do to make my keyboard and external harddisk be recognized by the Ultraslim docking station??

Do you know which version of the HP Ultraslim Docking station you have? There were some specific changes in regards to the 2013 generation of the dock where the docking station has 2 x DisplayPorts instead of earlier versions that only had one DisplayPort and one VGA. If you have the later 2013 Generation docking station and have 2 x DisplayPorts, those monitors should be fine. And you'd of course need the two displayport cables to use with the monitors (monitors might come with them, but make very sure they do). The 2013 Model looks like this (2 Display ports to the right of the Network jack):http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61ZSGNoW0sL._SL1500_.jpg Whereas the older model looks like this (single DisplayPort, next to the Network jack):http://content.hwigroup.net/images/products_xl/172474/hp-ultraslim-docking-station.jpg If the monitors do not come with cables, I highly recommend Monoprice.com as your source for those or ANY cabling. The link below is for 3 foot long cables, but depending on the layout of his desk, you might want 6-10 foot cables. Below link is an example:http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13359 Brian

Hi, First time posting to forums. I have a user that is having issues with the HP 2013 Ultraslim Dockingstation where you would have to sometimes unplug and then replug some of the external devices to get it to work. It happens with the patch cable in the ethernet port and has recently effected a usb cable that is going to an hp officejet 6700 printer, sometimes scanning goes out and this fixes the problem. When the user takes his laptop home for the night it will restart the laptop but in addition to that it when the user goes to reconnect it to the docking station the above problems happen. With the printer I have uninstalled the drivers for the printer and have re-installed the full feature drivers from HP's site. I was thinking it might be that the dockingstation might need a firmware update but I can't seem to locate one on HP's site. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Cheers,Brynden

Hi!
I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station.
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors.
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig) Serial number of failed request: 48 Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
Problem also reported in launchpad with lot's of debug info, here:

I need to convert to dual monitors on a HP 6200 Pro MT PC with Display Port and VGA ports. The computer displays propertly with a single monitor connected to the VGA port. Both monitors go black when I plug in a second monitor via the Display Port. In reading Internet documentation it is not clear if dual monitors will function from the system Display Port and VGA ports. Forum articles address dual monitors with addition of a discrete video card (Big_Dave 2/4/2012). Will dual monitors work from the system Display Port and VGA ports? If yes, what procedures are required to make such configuration work? Any ideas on why the monitors go black? Is a discrete video card required? Any assistance would be much apprecited as I ususally prepare income taxes and do not deal with bytes and bits.

I don't know which notebook model you have, but I'm finding random posts online about HP notebooks only being able to drive one analog monitor at a time, so you may be out of luck there. That docking station firmware update is for Displayport hub built into the docking station. It can only be updated if you're connected to at least one monitor using displayport. And it has nothing to do with analog port anyway, so it won't help you even if you could update the firmware.

I have a HP Dock Connector to Ethernet and VGA Adapter (http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=G7U78AA&opt=&sel=ACC) that I use to connect my laptop to an external monitor (HP ProDisply P221) and the wired network. I now want to connect a second monitor (another ProDisplay P221) to my laptop. What are my options? I don't want to buy a full docking station. I read somewhere that a VGA splitter cable would not be useful as it simply duplicates the same display as one sees on the first monitor. I have an HDMI port available on my laptop. Can I use this port with an HDMI to VGA cable and connect the HDMI-to-VGA output to the second monitor? Will this give me a continuous (and NOT a duplicate display)?Thank you for your help.

Hi MilanSan:

Thank you for your post. I will help any way I can!

I understand that you are having an issue with connecting the HP Elitebook 840 G1 to a docking station with external monitor. I know you said it is new, so have you done all the Windows updates? You have the option to run the HP Support Assistant and or the built in Windows troubleshooter to aid in resolving issues and updating drivers. Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.
b. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.
c. Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the Search option.
d. Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

If this has not resolved the issue, here is a link to the HP software and driver page for your computer. Drivers, Software & Firmware for HP EliteBook 840 G1 Notebook PC You can manually check to ensure you have the latest drivers.

If you are still experiencing the difficulty you could do a recovery, to restore to factory. HP PCs - Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8).

If none of the above have resolved this, I suggest calling the HP technical support.

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.

I have 3 monitors connected to an AMD HD5770 graphics card. Two monitors connect via HDMI, and the third through a Sapphire Active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. Things have been working fine for years, but recently I started sleeping my computer when I am not using it during the day, as opposed to my previous habit of leaving it on all day and then shutting down at night, and a couple of days after starting this new habit, I received a 'Display Port Link Failure' message:

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer"

Now, even upon resuming my normal habit of leaving the computer on and shutting down, the monitor will work sometimes but randomly stop other times.

How can I either fix the issues with sleep, which I would prefer since I want to save energy (a money issue rather than believing my actions make any difference to the environment), or if there is a problem somewhere, determine if it is the graphics card or the adaptor that needs replacing.?

A:Display Port Link Failure, Active Display Port->DVI

It could be the hardware is starting to give out. Not all problems are software related. Going to be hard to nail down if you don't have another cable. Could be the cable or the port.

Any way to test with a straight cable, not the adapter cable?

This post is not about the windows aero and autodock features, it is about the actual physical port on the bottom of a laptop.

Does anyone know if there is a way to completely disable the docking port on the bottom of a dell laptop. when/if this laptop is ever placed on a docking station i want it to do nothing. I have checked Google extensively and have failed to come up with a solution. any help would be appreciated.

A:how to disable docking port

You could go into Device Manager, find the docking port and right click and choose "Disable", or disable it under Properties, but chances are that as soon as you plugged it into a docking port it would reactivate.

It's worth a try though.

I want to connect my desktop monitor, and keyboard to my laptop.
If I do can I still use the USB ports on my laptop to connect my mouse, external disc drives,
printer etc or should I connect all devices to a docking station or port replicator?
Should I use a docking station or port replicator?
Can you recommend a good reasoable docking station or port replicator?

Looks like I will have to use a USB connected port replicator.

I have a z61t that I am trying to convert into a pfsense firewall. In order to do so I need to have 2 NICs. I am thinking about buying one of the docking stations that was designed for this laptop, but I want to know how the dock's ethernet port works. Is it a seperate NIC from the one built into the laptop? If so, is it the same NIC that is built in (the broadcom netxtreme)? Or does it just splice into the ethernet port built in (one NIC with two ports)? In order for the dock dock to work for my application, it would have to be the former. Thanks in advanced for the help!

I have expansion 3 port on my laptop and I didn't know what is it for but I read the you can hock up a docking station that transform your laptop to desktop where you can connect the devices that you used to connect to your desktop.

I don't know what kind of docking stations that you can connect to my laptop that has thing that are not already in my laptop( expect USB, because the more the better because many devices can be connected through this port)

It will be nice if you give also links from www.ebay.com so I can know about the cost of these devices including the shipping to UAE.

Hi Guys,
I just bought a Latitude e7450 and I am trying to use it with my PRO3X e-port docking.
I have found some issues but the most annoying one so far is the imposibility of using the Power button on the dock to start the laptop. The Power button is blinking (blue) but I cannot use it to power up or power down the laptop.
Am I missing any setting on my laptop? Is there a problem with my laptop? The docking worked fine for the past 4 years with my Latitude 6320 so I suspect there is nothing wrong with the docking.
I have installed the latest BIOS update today.
Thank you in advance for any suggestion.

I have a Toshiba Tecra M11-17V laptop, which I frequently use with the docking station that came with it.
There is a DB9 serial port on the back of the docking station but I do not know what COM Port it is.

I am using Windows 7.

In Device Manager, COM9 - COM22 are identified as BT Port (bluetooth). COM7 - COM8 are RIM Virtual Serial Port v2, COM17 is Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port and COM18 is USB-Serial CH340.

I figured that COM17 or COM18 were the most likely candidates, but have not been able to get it to respond using either of them.

I am connecting a Psion 5 (Comms app) to it, and have set the ports and the Psion to 19200 baud, 8bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.

A:Tecra M11-17V - Identifying the serial port on the docking station

Hi

> There is a DB9 serial port on the back of the docking station but I do not know what COM Port it is

I think you misunderstood something wrong?
The COM ports available in device manager are ?virtual com ports?
There is no connection between an virtual com port and serial port.

I?ve got one question: what docking station do you have exactly?

I had an express port replicator and this device required an installation of additional serial port driver.

I have a ThinkPad X240 laptop with Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 installed. Sound plays just fine from the laptop's speakers, and when I plug external speakers into the laptop's 3.5mm audio port they work just fine too.But...when the laptop is docked in my Ultra Dock 90W docking station and the external speakers cable is plugged into the dock's audio port, no sound is heard. If I'm playing music through the laptop's speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the dock's audio port no sound is heard. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the object of having an audio port on the Ultra Dock. The Ultra Dock has (I believe) the latest firmware installed (version 2.22.000) and I have the latest audio drivers installed: in Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > Realtek High Definition Audio > Driver version is 6.0.1.7188 which is the latest available from Lenovo Support downloads. What do I need to do to get the Ultra Dock's audio port working?Kind regards,/Neil PS. I have been using a T60 (1951-A31) with a full docking station (2505) with both video ports in use. It worked fine. I have since upgraded to a T400 (6474-U11). Physically it fits and powers up with no issue. Originally it contained two 1Gb So-Dimm sticks of ram (PC3-8500s). I have since tried to upgrade the ram to a stick of 2Gb and a stick of 4Gb (PC3-10600). If I leave a single stick in place I have no problems. when I try to include 2 sticks of the new ram, I get a horizontal "shredding" effect on the back ground, the icons, and any windows I open. I atempted to use one new and one original memory stick but ended up with the same problem. I have tried using a second identical docking station, but with the same results. I can confirm that the T60 has no issues with either docking station. The T400, by itself, with a monitor connected to the VGA port on the side has no video issues. I have done a remove/reinstall of the video drivers. I am one version back on the BIOS with no way of upgrading until I get a replacement battery. Would anyone have a suggestion on how to clean this up, other than sticking to a single stick of ram? Thanks, butterball

Hi,
I have a question regarding dual-slot HDD docking stations, as I was thinking about purchasing one. I will be using it for both data transfer and cloning. I also own a copy of Acronis True Image 2014 Premium. My question is this, if I want to clone or transfer data from one drive to the other using Acronis True Image would it be faster with two single docking stations each with their own dedicated USB (to the computer) opposed to one dual-slot station which has to share it‘s USB cable for both simultaneously reading from and writing to the drives? Or is this not how it works; does the data simply transfer from one drive to the other without ever leaving the docking station?

A:Question Regarding Dual-Docking HDD Stations

?? I think you're right ?? .. But there are "docking stations" with stand alone cloning that should be faster .. Here's one
Unless you're doing this all day .. is the extra speed really that much of an advantage ??
I think I'd trust Acronis 2014 for the Cloning/Imaging especially if making a SSD .. and would get a couple of Single enclosures or stations for the speed/versatility ..

Okay I am about to clone a '250GB Samsung 840 Evo' SSD (with OS on (Win. 8.1)) to another identical '250GB Samsung 840 Evo' using a dual docking station that has a clone feature. The docking station is the 'Coltech CE-606CU3'.

The reason I am doing this is because I have just built a new system which powers off randomly as trying to boot (approx. 1/10 times). I have tested RAM, changed PSU, made sure drive has latest firmware, updated BIOS and checked through the BIOS settings (amongst other things). I have also checked the health of the drive with 'Samsung Magician' (software that comes with the drive) and 'CrystalDiskInfo' which both say it is fine. When I disconnect the drive though the problem ceases. In both cases (connected/disconnected) the mobo successfully posts. For these reasons I have determined that it is probably the drive so have sent off for a replacement (from Amazon). As I don't want have to re-install and re-build the OS again (as this would be the third time) I was just going to clone it (using the docking station) to the new drive before I sent it back.

The instructions for the docking station are also less than helpful. They are a little fold out leaflet that say 'press clone button to clone' and 'make sure the target drive is the same or larger than source drive' with little else. I have not been able to find any online manuals for it either.

Which leads me on to my question, ... Read more

A:How Do I change Com.port 1 to Com.port 3? My modem is silent. Dual booting problem

What do you mean by changing COM1 to COM3? Do you want to move a device? Reassign IRQs? Physically pick one up off the motherboard and move it?

Your modem sound is usually configured in two places. One is in the Control Panel, and the other is in the Dial-up Networking settings. Adjust the volume there.

Are you running Windows 2000 and Windows 98 on separate paritions (drive letters)? If so, you'll need to use special software to convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS. I believe Parition Magic will allow this without data loss. However, I would never make such a large system change without first backing up data. There is always the chance that everything could get wiped out.

I am currently working with an EliteBook 8570w on a 90w docking station. I have one external monitor and the laptop lid open for a second, smaller monitor. I would like to connect a second external monitor and continue using the laptop with the lid open for email. I can't find a definitive answer on whether or not this is possible and what is the best setup to achieve the desired end result. The external monitor right now is connected to the VGA port. The second monitor has both VGA and DVI ports so I could go either way with the cord or an adapter that would work the best. Is it best to connect the second monitor to the DVI or DisplayPort on the docking station? Which setup, if any, would allow me to keep the 2 external displays and the laptop monitor open? Thank you in advance.

A:HP 90w docking station supporting dual monitors

Hi, Thanks for joining the Forums today! While using your 8570w monitor, when connected to a docking station (we tested this using an advanced docking station ) there are two valid setups to get three independent screens. You could connect two extra monitors through DVI or just one monitor through DVI and another through Display port. This is using the advanced docking station. If one of your monitors is VGA it still should work the same as above. Here is a link to a picture of an adaptor you can use to connect via Display port: http://img.misco.eu/resources/images/products//100/HWP/FH/FH973AT/FH973AT_6_1600x1600.jpg Let us know if you need further assistance. Thank you,

I have a user with a Thinkpad T460 (20FN003FUS) and a LenovoThinkpad Ultra Dock. We are using two external monitors: one going out from the VGA port of the docking station and one going out from the DisplayPort port and going through a DisplayPort - VGA adapter. The system worked fine at first. I had three displays: 1 being the laptop display and 2 and 3 being the dual monitors. The problem we're having is that when she undocks and redocks the laptop, both external monitors show in ScreenResolution as "Disconnected." If I change the multiple displays setting to "extend" I get an error message. If I undock the laptop, reboot it and then redock it, I can extend the displays, but it will stop working after the nextundock-redock cycle.I noticed the Lenovo has it's own multiple dispay management application. Should I be using that instead of Windows own native application?Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
