Cannot detect any wireless networks on my HP ENVY TouchSmart...

Q: Cannot detect any wireless networks on my HP ENVY TouchSmart...

Hello, My laptop won't pick up any wireless networks at all - I'm having what seems like a few different problems: 1. Because the laptop won't pick up any wireless networks, I can't of course connect to the internet without using my ethernet cable. 2. When I try to turn my adapter on using the F12 key, all it does is toggle airplane mode - which isn't going to help me connect to the internet. 3. When I go to 'Network' under PC Settings, I can toggle airplane mode but the bluetooth is greyed out and can't be toggled and it doesn't even give me an option to turn back on my wifi adapter. 4. When I went into the Network and Sharing Center to enable the adapter that way under 'Change Adapter Settings', I couldn't even see the adapter listed there. All it showed was Ethernet and Hamachi because I use LogMeIn Hamachi on my computer. By this point, I was like "Oh, great - the adapter might somehow not even be there even though it was last night," (I was online wirelessly the night before) so I went into the device manager and then expanded Network Adapters I only saw the same two Ethernet and LogMeIn adapters. 5. So next, I tried downloading the adapter - but the problem is, I have no idea what kind my laptop is supposed to have. Going to the download drivers section in the support area of the hp website, I found many options and none of them seemed to work. I also tried redownloading the Wireless Button Driver (whatever that's called) and that didn't work. 5. I even tried doing a system restore to a point of about a week ago - this also did not solve my problem because the same things were happening and the same things I tried above still are not solving the problem either. I know countless other people have had the same problem(s) mentioned above (simple Google search told me that) with their HP ENVY Notebook PCs, so I'm hoping that someone can help me and finally solve this problem for me. The model is HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 j120dx, the model number is E8A11UA#ABA, and my computer is running Windows 8.1 64-bit. On another note, here's the names of the only 2 adapters that show up in my device manager list (one is for LogMeIn Hamachi); Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Ethernet)LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Ethernet Adapter (Hamachi) The wireless was working fine before with Hamachi installed, so I doubt that has any significance. If there's any other information you need that I did not mention above, feel free to ask me. I look forward to someone replying as soon as possible and being able to find a solution to this problem for me! EDIT: One other thing I should mention is that the wifi in my location is working fine for every other device I try (phone, gaming console, other people's laptops/desktops, etc.

Hello dginther, Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand wireless is not working properly. If the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore Next, please try the steps in this HP document: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 8) These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, you can try a manual reinstall of the driver: 1. Go into Device Manager, then Network adapters.2. Right-click on the wireless driver, and select "Uninstall".3. Restart the computer. This will force the driver to reinstall itself. Please let me know the results of your troubleshooting. Thanks! Mario

I have installed Windows 10 and my wireless has disappeared. The F12 button has the amber light but there is not wireless on my laptop, no hardware, no adapter - nothing. I have tried several things like trying to reinstall Windows 8 but that did not work, went back to Windows 10 and still no joy. I have turned airplane mode on and off but there is no symbol at the bottom of the screen for wireless and when I go into the control panel there is no wireless info at all. Please help.

Hello,
I have an acer aspire 5810tz laptop and i had downloaded driver genius and it said i should update my driver for my Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter, so i did, from the acer website. it uninstalled the old driver (Said it detected a previous installation and asked if i wanted to uninstall it and i said yes) and now control panel says my driver is up to date and device is working properly but i cant detect my wireless network at home even though before this it was working fine. the only reason i was trying was cause it would disconnect me randomly and reconnect me. I've been searching through some threads but I can't seem to find the answer to my problem.. Or I'm just dense.

I just downloaded Windows 7 and I can connect to the internet with my ethernet cord but not using wireless. Before I downloaded 7 I could connect easily with Vista and had no problem detecting wireless networks..

Hi
I have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop which was working fine until thursday. when I got infected with the b.exe virus.
I have used nod32, avira, superantispyware & anitmalaware the virus appears to be gone and the computer clean.
The problem i now have is; both the Lan and network connection icons on the task bar have red crosses through them. The network connection icon has a pop up message that states that wireless networks are in range click to view them, when I click to view the network task window states that no wireless networks were found.
I have uninstalled the wireless card and re installed it, uninstalled and re installed the driver for the wireless card, I have flashed the bios using dell updates

What am I missing and how can I resolve this?

Can anyone help me with this please.

Hi all,

First off, let me preface this by saying that I am very ignorant about computers...

My laptop can't detect any wireless networks. The ethernet works fine. I have Vista Home Premium and use an Asus Laptop.

I have no idea if this relates, but every time I start my computer, an error message comes up saying that windows host processes has stopped working.

THANKS in advance-

Caroline

A:Cannot detect wireless networks

Hi Caroline,

I'm not sure if there's a Vista Guru here about to reply... in case not, I thought perhaps I might be able to assist as I've troubleshooted this kind of problem before.

First off, are there any other computers in your household that are successfully using the wireless network? If so, when they connect does the wireless network show up in a list? Some networks can be configured not to broadcast the ID. In that case, you wouldn't see anything in your list.

The windows host process could very well be tied to a different issue. But in the course of troubleshooting, it may become more clear if it is involved.

Hi
I have been having some troubles with my Toshiba laptop. I have a Atheros AR5007EG wireless network adapter. Initially it started with BSOD issues. So I tried to delete and reinstall the driver for Atheros card. Now I am able to start up and connect to Internet with Ethernet cable without any BSOD issues, but I am not able to see any Ethernet connections. When I check in the Device driver, it says the Atheros card is functioning correctly. I tried to delete and let Windows reinstall drivers a couple of times, but no luck.

I have attached screen shot of the Atheros driver in device manager and the output of ipconfig /all. I would appreciate if anybody can help. My model number is L305 - S5894.

Thanks

Hello houston2014,

Welcome to TSG!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the support page for your Toshiba L305-S5894. You should bookmark this page for future reference.

Based on your screenshot, both LAN adapter and wireless network adapter should be functioning.

Let's try downloading the latest drivers for the LAN card first. They are available here. [I would have given you a direct link, but I cannot determine your operating system from the screenshot you gave].

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Assuming you are running Windows Vista or later, please include a screenshot of the Network and Sharing Center in your next reply as well.

This can be opened by clicking Start > in the search bar type Network and Sharing Center and hit Enter.

On Windows 8/8.1 the search function can be launched by moving your cursor to the top-right corner of the screen.

Greetings.
I installed Windows 8.1 few days ago, tried to stay away from it as long as I could but it caught me off guard while I left my laptop running while I was away and it installed by itself.
Can't really say my problem was caused by W8.1 alone though, the day I installed it there were a few thunderstorms around here and my internet was dead for most of the time, when I actually checked my PC after it restarted itself it asked me to connect to the internet and showed me my wireless network but I still couldn't connect because it was out, I skipped that step and allowed it to finish and then turn off the laptop.
Next day I come back to set up whatever was left but for whatever reason I couldn't find my network on the list, figured it was still out but then checked on my phone and it was working perfectly, decided to check my other laptop and it was also working, just ignored it because my IP gives me wi-fi anyway for when the main line is out. I managed to spot my main network again couple days ago, tried to connect to it but said something about it being unavailable and dissapeared from the list again, yesterday I managed to manually connect to it and it worked, only to dissapear after a few hours. I've spotted it again a couple times afterwards but still can't connect, manually connecting isn't helping either.
I searched around a bit and tried a couple things (like disconnecting from my microsoft account, forgetting the network and then trying to manual connecting), a... Read more

First off, my name is Stephen and know a little about computers, but not a whole lot.

Now for the issue, I have a Dell Latitude D610. It is a company computer and just got it back from the IT dept. because I had to have the monitor portion of the laptop replaced. I believe he replaced the on board card as well because I have noticed that I cannot see any networks now. I do have a verizon wireless card that I use while I am out and about, but I would like to be able to connect to my network at home and at work for a faster connection while I am at those places. And I would take it back to the IT dept., but I have to submit a ticket and it can take sometimes a week for them to get me in.

There is no wireless switch and the device is enabled when I look at it through the device manager. Any idea how I can get this to detect networks without me having to go back through my IT dept.?

Thank you in advance

BTW, I searched the forum a little before posting this and had found a poster with a similar problem. The poster stated that he had gone into BIOS and had to enable it from there. The only problem with me is that I have no idea how to get to BIOS to check.

Hey everyone, just installed Windows 7 7100 a couple days ago (first time using 7), and although my ethernet connection works flawlessly, my wireless card cannot detect any networks (won't show any available, and can't connect manually either). It is installed, recognized, and the drivers are updated (by Windows). It is a D-Link DWA-552 N adapter. My router is an Apple Airport Extreme. I don't think it has anything to do with placement because I can connect to my wireless network with my laptop which is right beside my PC.

It might be the card, so I did a little searching around and it seems at least one other person got it working with 7 (although an earlier version) (Dlink DWA-552 under Windows 7 - 64-bit - Vista Forums).

Anyway I appreciated any input you guys have, thanks.

A:7100 - Can't detect any wireless networks

I have had good luck going to the DLink website and downloading the latest Vista drivers, then run the install process in Vista compatibility mode. I have found some W7 default drivers are a bit lacking.

I am having a problem with my wireless network cards. I have a Netgear WNDA3100 v1 wireless card that was working for a little while. The problem was that when I turn on my computer, the card could not find any wireless networks. I would do the "troubleshoot problems" and it would fix it most of the time. (i have to do 1 or more of these: take out the card, reinstall drivers, reboot, change usb port to get it working) But now that won't work. I tried it on another computer and it works fine. I also got another wireless card, Belkin F7D2101 v1, that does the exact same thing.

Drivers are all recent as of today, windows 7 64bit ult and kaspersky internet security 2009 are up-to-date. no virus, malware, etc. according to kis and mbam.

I'm stuck, any help?

I shut down my laptop on thanksgiving day and came back later that night and logged on...and My Wifi wasn't working. It doesn't show any available networks.

- My wifi switch is in the ON position
- In the Device Manager it says that it is WORKING PROPERLY
- It shows a red x in the task bar, showing that theres no connection
-When I go to Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network and sharing Center it is completely empty, nothing is there...only 4 icons...nothing else.
- It doesn't show the wireless button in Windows Mobility center anymore
- I bought a Linksys Wireless adapter and it would not work unless i enabled the windows wireless network manager...which i can't do either.
- I uninstalled and reinstalled the Drivers from the Toshiba website
- I did a system Restore
- and a bunch of other stuff.

Nothing works.

I read in other forums that its a problem with windows 7 and bad drivers and maybe a bad windows update.

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you

When you mentioned this> -When I go to Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network and sharing Center it is completely empty, nothing is there...only 4 icons...nothing else.

That would indicate a system problem where you may have lost some system files. Have you tried doing a repair install from the Windows CD? The tutorial below shows you how.

Hi there,

I am using a Belkin Wireless Router, and just spent the last 2 hours on the phone with the tech person trying to fix the connection to my cable modem. The connection between the router-modem-wired computer now seems to be working fine.

However, from my laptop, I cannot detect any wireless networks. I just came back from China, and the computer detected wireless networks there, but now doesn't recognize any at home. Usually there are 3-4 networks in the area.

My wireless switch is ON. I checked device manager, and 1394 Net Adapter #2 was disabled; I enabled it. Everything else (including Wireless 2200BG Network Connection) seems to be enabled and working fine.

Any advice would be appreciated!

a few days ago my laptop had no internet access even though it was connected to my home wireless network. I tried messing around with it and disabled the connection. suddenly, all the wireless networks in the list disappeared, even after enabling again.

Other than disabling the connection in network and sharing center I did not do anything else. the physical switch of the wireless adaptor is on.

under "manage wireless networks" I tried adding connections but it still does not show in the system tray.

I googled and found someone saying to start a service called WLAN autoconfig, but it is already started.

turning the modem and router on/off does not help either.

I know the router is not the problem because other devices at home can still access wireless. also usually I can see my neighbours' wireless but now the network list is completely empty.

I'm using an Asus laptop with windows 7, my wireless adaptor is called Atheros AR9285 wireless network adaptor. i've attached some screenshots.

Hey guys,

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my desktop last night upgrading from Vista. The install went smoothly and all was working until I tried to install my wireless adapter (TrendNET TEW-424UB) and discovered that although the driver installed, it could not detect any wireless networks. My first thought was that the adapter just wasn't compatible with 7 so I went out and bought a DLink DWA-125 only to discover I'm having the same problem. So I googled this problem and discovered that a great number of people are also having trouble with Windows 7. After browsing through the forums I've been unable to find a general fix for all of this, I found something about the WLAN config utility that 7 has, I disabled it and tried uninstalling/installing the adapter drivers with no luck. And then the same thing when re-enabled it again.

*Edit* I forgot to mention, the network works perfectly without a problem. As I type this there are two other computers connected via wireless to it and when the computer had Vista installed it worked without a problem.

So my question is, has this problem been solved yet or am I stuck without an internet connection?

Thanks for your time.

For the past few weeks I have been having problems with my HP laptop.

For starters my laptop will not restart. I try to restart it and it shuts down, but won't reboot all of the way. It gets stuck on the black screen you get just before the HP sceens comes up. So I have to press the power button ( after which I do, I get a loud POP sound before the computer shuts off ) and then turn it on again myself.
Also, if my computer goes in to sleep mode due to inactivity, it will not wake up. I have to press the power button to turn it off, and then start it up again.

After this happens, my laptop cannot detect any networks. I have to unplug the charger, and then I have to take out the battery and put it back in before it detects networks.

I took it to best buy ( where I bought the computer and have a warranty at ) and they did a diagnostic test and determined that I had several viruses causing the problems. After paying 200 bucks they ''fixed'' my computer and I brought it home, only to have the same exact problems I was having before.

This computer isn't even a year old... What could be wrong?

I had problems connecting to my WiFi Network these past few days. From time to time, my laptop can't detect my home wireless network at all even though other devices can detect and connect it as easily. I usually had to restart my modem and laptop or simply wait for it to pick up the WiFi connection.

Today, when the WiFi connection was shown as limited on my laptop when all other devices had a normal connection, I tried disabling then enabling again the Wireless Network Connection(?) on the Network Connections window in the Control Panel. I disabled it. But, when I tried enabling it again, the icon didn't show any change; and when I refreshed, the wireless network connection icon disappeared altogether.

I tried setting-up a new connection in hopes of locating the Wireless Network but the option of manually connecting to a wireless connection itself was gone (or anything relating to it really).

With a bit of info from googling, I checked Network Adapters on the Device Manager panel and the Wireless Adapter wasn't there (even after opting to Show Hidden Devices).

So, should I assume that this is a hardware problem? Or is there some setting that I should configure?

I'm a complete layman when it comes to computers but I'd honestly like to save money by figuring this out myself so I'm hoping it's only some setting I neglected to check given my lack of knowledge. So, may I get your advice on it?

Thank you for your response!

I have three laptops in the house, all running off a d-link di-614+ router, using 128-bit WEP. I'm generally computer savvy, and all was running well until I shut down my computer, which runs Windows XP Home. When I turned it back on in the morning, it was unable to connect to the wireless network. When I went to 'view available wireless networks', none showed in the list, and both the 'advanced' and the 'connect' connect buttons were greyed out, leaving me only with cancel. I have no way of getting in and manually inputting settings or anything to get it to connect back to the network. The strange thing is, the other two laptops in the house can connect to the router just fine using WAN, so I know it's not a problem with the router. I am utterly baffled with this. I am using the Compaq Multiport WLAN 802.11b network card. I also tried using another wireless card I had laying around, something by the name of Proxim Orinoco, but I experience the same trouble. I am utterly baffled. When I go into the configuration utility of my compaq wireless card, it kept searching for "Agere Systems" and there was no way to change that. So I went back into my router and changed the SSID to Agere Systems, and I was able to connect. The Wireless Connection displays that it is connected with good signal strength. Hi guys~ this is my first post, I just joined the club!

Thanks in advance for all the help you can provide.

I've been having pbs with my wireless recently. It worked fine at home until I went to visit some friends in England and couldn't detect their own network in their house (I had used it in the past so Windows should've detected it automatically).

I opened the DELL Wireless Utility, which I didn't even know existed, and it could detect their network as well as their neighbours! I tried to disable Windows and let DELL configure my wireless, tried to add, connect to network etc, but nada. I re-enabled the Windows utility and now that I'm back home it's doing the same... It won't detect any networks! (DELL utility still does by the way)

What I did:

- I restarted Wireless Zero configuration: No change.
- I disabled Windows Firewall (I thought it might help?): No change either.
- I tried to update the driver: apparently it's working fine.
- I did the simplest (most stupid?) thing... switched the Wireless button off and on and off and on again....: It's working but still no network.
- I tried to set up a new wireless network with the wizard but since my Wireless is work
- ESET Smart Security says I've no viruses.
- Malwarebytes says I've no malwares.

Everything looks OK...but I'm still not getting connected with wireless and have to use a cable plugged directly into the internet box.

A:My laptop won't detect wireless networks.

can we see a device manager screen shot and a xirrus screen shot

you can do this while connected by cable and then post the results

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Direct link to the program is here http://wpc.475a.edgecastcdn.net/00475A/XirrusWiFiInspectorSetup.1.2.0.exe

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector/xirruswifiinspectorguide1-2-0.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

If anyone can assist...

I use my wireless network at home, perfectly fine. Sometimes I'll go hardwired if I'm doing a lot of uploading.

Recently went on a trip and stayed in 3 different hotels. Hotel 1, I was able to connect my laptop to their wireless, no problem. When I got to the second hotel, my laptop would not detect the wireless. So I pulled out my other laptop and volia... wireless. So its clearly an issue with my first laptop. I've since gotten back home and attempted to connect to my own wireless... and bam! nothing.

I do NOT have a wireless switch on my laptop anywhere, so its not a case of accidently disabling the wireless. For my HP to disable, I have to go to the wireless network connection and right click to disable or enable. Its currently enabled. The adaper says its working correctly.

When I run ipconfig my IP address (when wired) is 192.168.1.100

When I check my event logs I do see this message: Dhcp-Client Event ID: 1002

So this is an interesting problem.

I recently upgrade my graphics card. Before I upgraded I was able to use my dlink ac3200 router plus an extender to get amazing range into a separate building from where my router is set up. After I installed a new graphics card the extender didn't seem to have the same affect.

I brought my pc into the same building as the router and could connect no problem. Also other devices all of a sudden no longer connect to the extender. My Xbox 1, my samsung galaxy 5, neither will connect to any network in the other building.

Now i bought a new extender, same problem not the same range. I've currently got my pc right beside the router and for a day or so I was able to connect wirelessly to the router. NOW all of a sudden my PC doesn't detect any networks. It will only work if I have it hardwired in.

Much confusion going on.

The graphics card I upgraded to was the ASUS gtx 970 mini.
My onboard network adapter is Ralink RT5390R 802.11bgn
I have the most recent drivers for both.

I'm checking the firmware for the router now.
Most confusion part is that it USED to work just fine. Then out of no where it stopped giving me the range.

I've looked into changing channels on my router but don't know which channel to switch it to.

Thanks for your time.

Edit: Firmware is all up to date.

A:PC wont detect Wireless networks anymore

If you're having issues with other devices, then I'd say that a coincidence of you installing your GPU and not being able to connect.

Reboot the main router by power cycling it (unplugging it for about 30 seconds, and re-plugging it in).

I am running Windows 7 64bit retail on an Intel DX58SO2 extreme mobo with i7960 CPU and Corsair SATA3 SSD hard drive, with 12GB KIngston DDR3 1300 RAM.

The mobo comes with a module that connects to an internal USB header which runs Bluetooth and a WiFi 802.11bgn wireless adapter.

I had used Bluetooth without problems for some time, but just recently decided to install the WiFi adapter for the first time. It said it had installed successfully, and showed up on Device Manager as working properly. However, it could not detect networks, and in particular, the WiFi external modem/router on my other PC.

After exhausting all possible solutions, I decided to load a bare bones installation of Windows 7 and it installed and ran perfectly in this environment. And it continued to run OK after all my various programs were loaded.

However, as a test, I uninstalled it from the fully loaded OS, and then successfully reinstalled it. But once again, it could not detect networks despite Device Manager saying it was working correctly.

So it seems the only way to get it to work is to load it on Windows before any other programs or updates are added; and never uninstall/reinstall.

I also had exactly the same experience on my other PC which runs Vista Ultimate OEM. I was using a Belkin N 300 adapter on this OS. It could only be loaded and run successfully on a bare bones installation, but once running, was OK even when all other programs were added.

Has anyone got any sug... Read more

Hi guys, got a bit of a problem with a Toshiba laptop. All of a sudden it can no longer detect any Wireless networks in range. I know my router is working, as I have a second laptop that is not having issues, and all my wired PCs are fine.

I've tried repairing the connection, and everything appears to be working correctly in Device Manager, but I just can't detect a single wireless network, when I should be able to see 5+ in my house.

Any advice you guys have would be great.

Are you SURE the wireless is enabled? My Toshiba laptop has a small switch on the side that will disable/enable the wireless. Some may have a function key sequence that does the same thing.

Could be many things. wee need more information to diax. it could be as simple as the modem is shut off. Yes there is a key combo to turn it on. Or it could be a driver (check in device manager). It could be a confiuration error.

I recently installed a Belkin N300 on my backroom PC which has Vista Ult OS. The purpose was to connect to the WiFi router/modem of my main PC which has Windows7.

I installed it exactly as instructed by the manufacturer using the disc that came with the adapter. That is, run the disc first and install the adpater when prompted. It said it installed successfully, and Device manager said it was running properly, but in practice it could not detect any networks. Network discovery was turned on, and no yellow warning triangles.

After about an hour of fruitless attemtps to fix the problem, I did a bare bones installation of Vista and installed the adapter on it and it worked perfectly. And it continued to work even after all the various 3rd party software and Windows updates were installed. However, if I now uninstalled/reinstalled it, it would no longer detect networks, even though Device Manager said it was running properly.

I was curious to see if the problem was an incompatibility issue with Vista, so I installed the Belkin adapter on my main PC which already had Windows7 fully loaded. And then tried to connect with a wireless router/modem on the Vista PC. And I got exactly the same result ... everything green lights, but in practice it could not detect my WiFi modem on Vista, or any other networks in the vicinity.

So I repeated the process of installing the adapter on a bare bones installation of Win7, and as on Vista, it now worked perfectly. And continued to work wh... Read more

A:Wireless adapter failure to detect networks.

Hi, I know it is an old posting, but I've just spent many hours with similar problems of the nic says ok and drivers all ok, but no connection.
I found this information to share.

1) On web, some people report disabling or having to remove anti virus and/or firewalls. Zone Alarm and Kapersky are both mentioned as being disabled/removed to solve similar issues. I had ZA and disabling didn't solve my connection problem.

2) This did solve for me. Boot into safe mode, in device manager disabled the wireless. Then in device manager rescanned hardware, which reloaded the wireless. After reboot normally, the wireless worked! I experienced/confirmed this with both a Rosewill pci nic and a Edimax usb wireless adapter.

Hope this helps.

My organization utilizes quite a few Thinkpad Yoga S1s (20C0 and 20DK), all of them seem to have issues with the wireless adapters, they will intermittently stop detecting any wireless networks. We have noticed that this seems to happen most often when moving the laptop either between APs or to different wifi networks, and to get it to work again we either have to disable then re-enable the wireless AC adapter's driver or reboot, sometimes needing to do both. We have tried more recent drivers and it doesn't seem to have much effect, has anyone else seen this issue and do you have a resolution? Thanks

You don't mention operating system?  It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but try this:

Under device manager/network adapters, right-click the wireless card and select properties.  On the power management tab, uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn the device off to save power.

I am using windows 7 and i can load up the wireless manager where i can select my wire less network.. but for some reason all i can isee it Dial-up and VPN and above saying "connections are available" even though no wireless networks are showing

normally i can see about 6 in my neighbour hood but all i can see is a dial up one that i setup a few months ago

my wireless adapter is Atheros AR9284 Wireless network adapter

Thanks!

A:Spilt Tea - Cant detect wireless networks n keyboard problems!

How do you know he accidentally did it?

Seriously, if it is a laptop computer and there is a chance the spill ran under the keyboard, I would disconnect the power and take the battery out until it is completely dry. This took almost two weeks for my sons laptop.

If it's a desktop, just use another keyboard until this one dries.

I'm hoping you guys can help...

I upgraded my mobo, cpu, ram and video card today. I kept my HDD, optical drives, and my wireless adapter (Edimax EW-7128g)

In my zeal to install my new components I had forgotten to uninstall the drivers of the edimax, which I was going to keep, and my old ATI radeon, which I was replacing.

After installing the new components, every thing started up fine, except the edimax wireless adapter would refuse to connect, or even detect any wireless networks. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers countless times, swapped the wireless card around in the different pci slots, but still came up with the same problem.

I noticed that when I checked the network adapters in control panel, it would keep calling the Edimax "wireless adapter (2)" or "wireless adapter (3)" depending on which pci slot I put it in. I would try renaming it to simply "wireless adapter" but it would state that an adapter by that name already exists. I'm guessing this is some holdover from being connected to the old motherboard.

In short, new mobo recognizes the card, latest drivers for windows 7 are installed, but windows keeps telling me there's an error with the drivers, and every time I try and search for wireless connections, it won't even search...it will just say "no connections available." Was this whole issue precipitated by forgetting to uninstall the drivers and the card itself before upgrading my mobo?

have you re-installed the software and chipset drivers etc - or are you hoping the Harddrive with the software on works ?

Normally you would re-install the windows software onto the new hardware - as you may get a few issues

can you do this

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here

i suspect the best way is to remove the wireless adapter from device manager and re-install - lets see the above

I have tried everything. Updated drivers, downgraded drivers, tried drivers from another manufacturer, uninstalled and let it auto install the "correct" drivers. I changed my power settings to max performance, messed with the signal configuration and most recently, completely reset windows.

Before reseting windows, it would detect wireless networks about half of the time but then would disconnect from them every 5 minutes or so, making it very difficult to use. Now, after reseting windows, it has not been able to detect any wireless networks at all.

This issue has occurred on ALL wifi networks, including my mother's in Virginia, my university and my apartment in San Diego. It also does not occur on any other device including my old computer (this one) and my phone. All other devices have unbroken and healthy signals on the same wifi.

Could it be a faulty network adapter? The computer is refurb.

I apologize if this has been posted before, I tried searching but couldn't find it.

About 3 weeks ago, my Dell Inspiron 600m running Windows XP Pro (32 bit) suddenly became unable to detect wireless networks in the area. I have a standard integrated wireless card (Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG) and all signs show that it is working properly, only it won't detect wireless networks that are clearly available.

Also, when I go into Wireless Network Connection Properties and hit "Configure" next to my wireless card, I get a pop-up notification stating "Adapter state not found in registry." I don't remember seeing this message in the past, but I can't really say when it started happening.

I have tried various networks in various locations, it doesn't detect anything. I have an updated driver (w29n51.sys & Netw2c32.dll) , I tried using system restore to roll back to before the problem began, no luck.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, I have a Linksys AE6000 Wireless USB adapter in my Laptop and it is 5Ghz enabled. When I first got my laptop it had Windows 8 on it, but before I did anything I reformatted it to Windows 7. Under Windows 7, this wireless adapter connected to my 5Ghz SSID on my router (the 2.4 and 5Ghz SSIDs are different from one another on my router) just fine and I was getting 500Mb/s speed over Wi-Fi. Then, I upgraded laptop to Windows 8.1, where adapter only detects my 2.4Ghz SSID, and now I only get 150Mb/s over Wi-Fi.

What do I do? I have tried reinstalling driver, using Win7 compatibility mode drivers, installing manually without GUI, I have made sure internal card is fully disabled, etc etc...

My specs are as follows:

Intel Core(TM) i7-3632QM Quad-core mobile CPU

Intel HD Graphics 4000
AMD Radeon 7670M GPU 2GB

Internal Wi-Fi card - Intel Wireless-N 2230
External USB Wi-Fi - Linksys AE6000

I have recently had a problem with my computer showing no wireless networks. There are other computers that can log on without a problem (obviously, one which I am using).

It is well noteworthy to mention that a few days ago there was an accidental download that initiated. Trendmicro caught it and says the last virus/malware found is: TROJ_DROPPER from C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventlog.dll.

(I thought trendmicro caught it, and Prevx cleaned my system, but it may be contributing to the problem or has done damage)

Since then, at school, I have noticed my computer was connected to the internet (I could still surf the web) but would say that it was NOT connected. When I went home, my computer would say it detected a wireless network, however, when I clicked on it it would say "no wireless network detected"

I tried a few things including:

1.Uninstalling the Network adaptor
Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN and letting it reinstall on start-up (No luck)

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Hi! So, I am trying to replace my Envy 17's 1TB magnetic hard drive with a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo Sata form factor SSD. I followed the Maintenance and Replacement guide at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04091762 , but when it came time to actually extract the hard drive from my computer, I could not figure out how to do it. I took a few pictures of what it looks like inside my computer, and they are in here: https://goo.gl/photos/RLmPNcYfzq5Lf5Ah6 . As you can see, there's a blue rubbery case around my hard drive, but pulling on it from either side doesn't seem to budge the hard drive, and I didn't want to apply maximum force in case the bay broke. The manual says to start with unplugging the cable from the hard drive, but I can't seem to unplug it do to the lack of space. Any help would be much appreciated. Sincerely,MajorGeneralRelativity P.S. If you need more info, please let me know

Hi there, The Wifi on this laptop keeps either dropping connection, or changing to a "limited" network. Sometimes it works fine, but more often than not it drops out. All other wifi enabled devices in my house work fine, so I know it's not the internet. I've also tested on two other networks where the same dropping out occurs. I have no idea where to begin with this really so would be grateful for any help!  Windows 8 64 BitIntel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (up to date) Thanks

Hello,I purchased an HP Envy Laptop my first year of College, and it has served me well to a point. But recently, I noticed that there was some separation happening in the body of the laptop, just next to the right hinge area. The "metal" and plastic pieces of the casing were pulling apart from each other. This began to cause problems with my disk drive as well, I believe. It became more concerning when it began happening on the right side as well, and likely caused problems with the fan.At this point, the left side of the casing, right by the vent snaps out and back into place whenever I open my laptop. As this is a problem that could be getting worse virtually every time I use the computer, it makes it stressful to enjoy my HP device. If this continues, more problems will undoubtedly arise.I need a solution to this, lest my HP experience be ruined.Thank you for your time. I do appreciate and respect it.

Last year while my daughter was at school she started reporting to me that her HP Envy Touchsmart 15" laptop's case was pulling apart at the corners.  Then she started reporting hearing rattling noises inside the case, then the fan stopped working.   I called HP support, and was told by one person the laptop was under warranty, but that wouldn't be covered because of normal wear and tear.  I called back later and then was told the laptop was not under warranty.  I called back several times, and got a variety of answers all of which added up to between $300 and $500 for repairs on a laptop that I spent $700 on! When she came home for a break from school, I took apart the laptop and removed the debries from the fan (I had purchased a replacement fan which I didn't need) and the laptop stopped overheating.  Next I tackled the hinge problem which by this time had progressed to be both hinges.  The weak plastic connections on the bottom were in bad shape, cracked and peices missing.  So (being the brain surgeon I am ) I decided to use epoxy to more firmly affix the hinges to the case.  That fix has now failed. I have seen and posted on other threads that this type of failure is (despite what HP support says) fairly common in the whole line of HP consumer grade laptops!  Before this, I had mainly used HP business grade laptops and had thought that the quality there would also be in the consumer grade laptops.  My... My Envy 23 TouchSmart All-in-One PC asked to update the firmware the other day, so I said yes.  It seemed like the update never fully downloaded or completed.  Now, when I try to turn on the computer, it comes up with the following error " Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart."  It then goes into a HP logo screen and says " Preparing Automatic Repair", then "Diagnosing your PC", then Blue screen with "Automatic Repair" header "Your PC did not start correctly.  Press "restart" to restart your PC, which can sometimes fix the problem.  You can also press "Advanced options" to try other options to repair your PC." I had a restore USB drive made when I bought the computer 3 years ago, but it doesn't seem to help. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello,

I've had this problem off an on for probably about a year now. Randomly my clickpad (I think that's what it's called...the mouse on my laptop) stops working. Either the cursor will freeze and disappear when I touch the screen or it just doesn't appear when I open my laptop. I found a fix once that said to just go into the Device Manager and either update or rollback the driver and that worked the first time....but doesn't seem to be the answer as it continues to happen. Luckily I have the touchscreen or I'd be really annoyed but its tough to do work with just the touchscreen. Can anyone help me keep the cursor/clickpad working?

When I update/roll back the driver I go to:
Device Manager > System Devices > Synaptics SMBus > Properties > Driver

Hello,  I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 a little over a year ago. The hinge seems to have come unglued fromt the inside. I read that the HP Envy is prone to this, since the hinge is glued in production as opposed to being fastened with a screw. I'm a graduate student, and I'm unable to use my HP for schoolwork due to the faulty hinge. The computer has been handled carefully, and it's never been dropped. This is my first HP. It was great when it was working; however, a laptop that costs nearly a grand and works only for 1 year due to the construction is extremelhy dissapointing.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it was handled by HP. I purchased it through costco, so I should have an extended 2 year warranty on the device.  Thanks in advance,  Alexandria

Hello!I bought my computer about 11 months ago for college and the past month it has been having some weird cracking noises when opening/closing the lid. A friend of mine told me to watch out since he had the same computer and it had broken off. I noticed today that theroght hinge is actually starting to come out and the base of the computer is also getting loose. This is very strange since I barely move my computer from the desk since it is so big, plus I have a smaller one that I use to take to classes so I don't mess with this one for stuff that is unnecessary. I wanted to know how this can be repaired.Thank you!

I have a HP ENVY notebook of model TouchSmart 15-j127tx.Using the laptop causes eye fatigue after 15 minutes itself. The White color background is the main cause and I experience eye fatigue  even after trying many combinations of  brightness and contrast. I have adjusted the gamma settings to different levels and even used the Display Colour Calibration within Win 10 to improve the display, but the result is same. At first, I thought only I have this problem, but over the time, people whoever uses my notebook complain the same. I use a different  brand laptop for work, which does not have a touch display. I work on that laptop for more than 10 hours a day but don't feel eye fatigue. But when I use this HP laptop, always, I feel the strain on my eyes. Can anyone help on this. Thanks.

I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 23". It was used little over the three years. Last week, when starting up it started to display the message reading "Critical error/your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it next time you sign in". After several attempts of power off and restart, hoping the fix would happen, my HP simply stopped responding to the power on switch. The power on switch would light up indicating that the power was on, but the screen would not light up or indicate activity. Best Buy, where I purchased the computer, could not assess the problem locally - they could only arrange to send it to somewhere in BC, for an assessment that would take 2 to 6 weeks. Can anyone help?

Hello HP Buddies, I have an HP Envy Touchsmart laptop model M7-J178CA  / Product: E8A17UA#ABL and it works fine in stock form. I installed a brand new Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD using the correct adapter kit Part number: 720237-001 Part description: HDD Hardware Kit http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=542 and I have the following concerns: 1) Windows disk management does not recognize the SSD, nor does the latest version of Samsung Magician.  I think I need to enable ACHI mode (or the equivalent) but I am not sure how to do this as there does not seem to be anything in the BIOS to allow this. 2) I ordered a USB to SATA adapter (not here yet!) Hello,  This is my first time on this site and I have been having some trouble with my computer.FIrst of all, my computer is the HP Envy 23 Touchsmart PC and its roughly around 3-4 years old. For all this time, it has been working fine without any problems, but one day I was playing a game on my computer and it randomly shut down. At first, I thought I accidentally kicked a cord, so I made sure every cord was in their sockets tightly. Thinking it was a loose cord that caused it to shut down, I tried to turn it on again. Unfortunately, there was no luck.   In furthur investigation on my computer, I noticed my power cord was making a small beeping/chirping noise every 2-3 seconds with its green light flashing on and off in sync with the green light. What I found interesting was when I unplugged the power cord from the computer, the green light would actually stay solid without it blinking or making any noise. When i replug it back in, it continues to blink and make the small beeping noise again. As a computer amateur, I am afraid to open my computer up and try to fix the problem myself. And I was also hoping for some solutions here on this site before bringing it into a store to get it fixed.  I also updated my computer to Windows 10 if any of that matters. Thank you for your time!
