Half Completed Windows 10 Upgrade

Q: Half Completed Windows 10 Upgrade

I am helping a friend who is a not very experienced PC user with Windows 7 on her HP Pavilion desktop - I am somewhat more experienced but still not an expert. She thinks she inadvertently accepted the suggestion on her screen to convert to Windows
10. She had not intended to do that and I think she subsequently switched the machine off to prevent it from continuing although she is unclear about that. Afterwards every time she switched the PC on she was faced with messages saying the system
was attempting to repair itself but it kept failing to do that and effectively looping round options. i have tried loading a Wndows 7 recovery disc and it reports that it can only see a Windows 10 system on the hard drive. Eventually I used the
recovery disc to set up a new version of Win 7. It now shows me two previous Windows folders Windows.old and Windows.old000
The Windows.old000 appears to be her previous Win 7 so I guess the Windows.old is the failed attempt at Windows 10.
She did not have much on her system other than Microsoft Office and Norton. All she really wants is to get either her previous Win 7 working again or for her version of Office to work on the new Win 7 I have installed. I have not tried to run
any of the Office suite as I am guessing they will say they are not registered on the new version of Windows and I do not want to possibly change what might still work on the old version.
Can anybody suggest how I can either get the old Win 7 working again e.g. as if I was rolling back from Win 10 or get the Office software to work on the new Win 7 system. My friend has not so far found the original documentation when she purchased
the PC so probably will not find the original Office product keys.
Regards
Mike

Alright. I have quite a bit of computer experience, but this one is beyond me. Now, this is a very long story, but I will cut it short. I don't intend to write a book entitled "Doug's Adventures With Incompotent Microsoft CEOs", but if you have any questions, ask.

Here's how it works. I've got two operating systems on my PC. Both are Windows 2000 Professional. One is just your daily-style operating system. Microsoft Office installed, etc. The other one has only games installed and is optimized for gaming. Yeah, I'm a nerd. Who isn't. OS #1, the non-gaming one, is installed on my 20 GB Quantum Fireball HD (which has one partition). OS #2 is installed on my 120GB WD Caviar, which has two partitions. OS #2 is located on the first partition. There is no OS on the second.

Ok. Now, someone (who at the moment I have YET to identify) loaded up a Windows 2000 Pro boot CD. What they did (I believe I'm right, not just because I'm always right but because the world is conspiring against me as I type) was they loaded up the installation under DOS and started an upgrade on Operating System Number 1. That is, the one *with* Office and *without* all the games (why Microsoft would make this possible, to upgrade Windows 2000 to Windows 2000, I have no idea). As you know, after a certain point in time the Setup utility reboots your system into a Windows-style GUI. That's where I'm stuck right now. When I try to boot up the OS, it loa... Read more

Hi everyone!

Ive just completed my upgrade from an MSI 745 Ulta mobo and ATI Radeon 7000 series 64meg AGP x4 graphics card to an Abit NF7-S mobo and ATI Radeon 9550 AGP x8 256meg graphics card and I gotta say, boy what a difference.

Now I have to save up my pennies to get myself a better processor, I have an AMD Athlon XP Pro 2000 and was wondering what i should replace it with?

There's a fair ammount of choice out there so i was wondering if anyone has any recomendations?

A:Just completed an upgrade

Nice speed jump!
Upgrading always starts with budjet. If you are going to keep your Mb , then simply buy the best (fastest) CPU you can afford at the time.If you are saving pennies you will probably be able to get the quickest cpu your mb can handle.

I would like to take advantage of this offer they have sent me for the half off pre-order for the upgrade version and I have a few questions.

I have Vista Ultimate now and never use Bit Locker so basically the 7 premium version would be about the same as what I am utilizing right now since I don't Locker right? They don't seem to be offering the 7 Ultimate version upgrade in this deal this is why I am asking. I also only plan on using one language which is another option the Ultimate version has that I don't need.

Secondly, do these upgrade version include 32 and 64 bit versions in one package? I have looked and the offer does not specify which one it was or if Win 7 includes both. I prefer to use 64 bit which is what I have now.

Lastly, no one might know this yet but can the upgrade version be used to do a stand alone install as long as you have a qualifying product DVD on hand? I know older versions of Windows you could do this with ( I believe ME would do it as longas you had a Win 98 disk to verify). I ask this because I am planning an upgrade soon and I ask this question for that reason because I am using a system builder version and will have to buy another copy of Vista for an upgraded system (unless my motherboard would die by chance).

A:Microsoft half off for upgrade

32 and 64 bit versions in one package, Yes except for Win 7 Starter Edition

You can do clean install with upgrade disc

After the Windows 10 setup files have downloaded and its rebooted into the upgrade process we seem to be getting this weird problem.
After the files have copied across (so the first part of the upgrade process) when its doing the installation/configuration i get a BSOD with the following error : SYSTEM_SCAN_AT_RAISED_IRQL_CAUGHT_IMPROPER_DRIVER_UNLOAD and i cannot seem to figure out what the cause is.

Machine Specs:
- OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
- CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K Haswell Refresh Processor 4.0 GHz
- RAM: 16GB PC3-10666 1333MHz DDR3 Memory (2 x 8GB sticks)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT740
- MOBO: Asus B85M-G Basic Micro ATX Motherboard
- Hard Drive Setup: All our machines have 1 SSD boot drive and 2x1TB Mechanical drives in a raid 1 setup
We have 2 other machines built pretty much the same and both of them have upgraded no problem, any ideas?

I guess that the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter doesn't support multiple screens. You'll need drivers for you graphics card.

As you haven't posted what it is, or information that might lead to finding out what it is (like the make and model of the PC), we can't point you to a place to download the drivers.

I hope that your graphics adapter isn't one of those that has no Win8 drivers. Microsoft includes many drivers in the Win 8 installer, but that's as a courtesy; the drivers are actually from the manufacturer. Some manufacturers haven't produced Win 8 drivers for their products. (Similar things happened in going from XP to Vista.)

Hello.

I just purchased Half Life Blue Shift. I installed the graphics upgrade and the game. First off I see no real difference in the game and I am running a Geforce2MX400 with 64MB. So I think I'd notice something. Also, my "flashlight" key doesn't always turn off the first time I hit the key to turn it off? Anybody... I am clueless.

A:Half Life Blue Shift - questions about graphics upgrade and flashlight key

Firstly, the High Definition Pack only changes the animations and player models. Here's a quote from Planet Half-Life:
"One of Half-Life: Blue Shift's biggest selling points has to be the "High Definition Pack", a graphics upgrade for Half-Life, which adds visually enhanced player and weapon models. The models, and their respective animations, contain double the amount of polygons over their original versions -- and best of all, it'll also upgrade all the weapons and models in Half-Life and Opposing Force too!"

Ok, as for the flashlight, are you meaning it works after you press the button twice? One thing I would try is reassigning the key for the flashlight. If you've editec config files before then you will know its not that hard. But I suggest you could try copying all the necessary parts of you config.cfg file and making an autoexec.cfg file. And seeing if that will reconfigure your flashlight and make it work. MAKE SURE you make a backup of your old config file though, just incase you need to go back to it.
What I've just written is a bit messy, i'll try again:
1) Backup your config.cfg file
2) Copy out all neccessary bits from config file (ie.. movement controls and player name..etc)
3) Paste into new file called autoexec.cfg
4) Delete old config
5) Run game, and change all the setting back to what you like them as. A new config.cfg file will be created while you play the game.
Hopefully that might help.

A:Windows did not completed installation, please restart

Hi Douglasbradley,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

I must say you have me somewhat confused. I need your help clarifying the situation with more information and by answering some questions.

How exactly did you "install" Vista from safe mode? What exactly did you do (and what exactly are you trying to do and why are you trying to do it)? I don't quite understand the situation. Could you please explain in detail exactly what you are attempting, why you are attempting it, how you are attempting it, and the situation at the moment. What are you using to do the installation (a genuine Vista Installation CD, a Recovery Disk, a Recovery Partition, or what)? What method of installation are you using? What type of installation are you trying to do? Why are you trying to do it from Safe Mode (and can you get into safe mode now or are you unable to do so any longer)?

Thanks!

Hi all
I got a trojan on my PC , did a full scan with malware bytes and it found some files which where deleted.
the damage done was quite extensive , many directories had access denied , there was a strange user account which I removed , and many directories were shared , and some directories where replicated up to 20 times , my drive space decrease by about 100 gig ....
after some trying to fix the problems manually I decided to do a system restore point back to a week ago.
It has now been running for 9 hours , the first 5 hours was ' restore initializing ' , then for the last 4 hours its: ' restoring the registry ' , the hard drive light is constantly flashing.

- windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

at this point I'm not sure what to do , any advise please
thanks

A:windows restore running for 9 hours.still not completed-advise please

I'm not sure if System Restore will remove all the malware. I could be wrong but I think it only puts important system files back the way they were. If prior to your problem, you created a system image, you can restore the image which should take care of it. Otherwise you may need to do a system recover and put it back to the factory image. But wait till you hear from some of the other member. If you need to do a recovery to factory image, I hope you can backup your important files.

I think I downloaded the Java applet it asked me to like....5 times, but it still wouldnt let me print. Does anyone know what to do? I thought i read something about temporarily turning off any antivirus etc. software, but im not sure how to do that and if i WANT to do that {i dont want to risk anymore virus issues} please help!!!

I just spent the last 30 hours downloading and installing all the update for 8.1 on my new Acer Laptop. Now the system will not shut down, update will not open and restore does not work. Also the sound system does not work. I've tried the recovery options but all I get is unending aero. Shutdown produces background apps still running and will only work if I physically turn off the power.

I'm at a loss to know what to do next. I did not expect to have these problems with a brand new system and by following all the proper procedures for updating.

Hi -
Searching for some answers to a problem that's suddenly affecting my PC ; and found this site ;
(Was able to post the confirmation /activation link off my iphone )
For no apparent reason I seem to have a problem with my home computer that runs Windows 7.
Firstly I found that on opening Windows Live Mail - it would freeze ; I cant access mail.
Usually the note is that 'Windows Live Mail' did not shut down correctly last time I used it. -
I can however go to mail.live.com and log in there OK.
I then thought I would do a basic system restore - but for some reason the last restore point I now have is only a day old ; when the problem began.
I have had the same computer/system operating fine for many years.
I wondered if a firewall was stopping something - so temporarily deleted AVG ;  That didn't help at all, so I went to download it back again - but cant.
Likewise I cant download pictures to facebook for example, although I canopen Fb OK and  write/post there.
I checked that I had ample space on the computer, as a reason I can no longer download things - and yes, that is fine, ample space left.

To summarize ; I cant download anything, upload anything, and windows live freezes a minute after I open it, not letting me read emails or do  anything.
Apart from that, as far as Browsing/google etc all else is fine- as normal.
I can not think of any activity Ive done to alter settings, and rarely look at/download anything that may have been... Read more

I would like you to repair Windows Live Mail to make sure that it's not corrupted.
To do this, please follow the steps below:
Make sure all your junk mail settings are set up and saved the way you want and close out of Live Mail.
Go to Control Panel then click Programs.
Click Programs and Features.
Right click Windows Live Essentials 2011 then click Uninstall/Change.
Select Repair all Windows Live programs in the dialog box.
After the repair is done, reboot when asked.

Installed a new hard drive and got a Recovery Manager screen and selected system recovery, prompted through the discs. It prompted me to hit FINISH and the computer would restart. There was a warning saying not turn off, unplug, etc. The computer has not Restarted or shut off after I hit Finish. It has a blank screen with the power light on and has been that way for 2 hours now. Should I wait some more or turn it off? What are the consequences?

Purchased a new Hitachi/LG Combination burner/dvd (player) installed with a second streight cd dom drive connected in master/slave config. The dvd side of the drive using Cyberlink PowerDVD installed and plays fine. But anything else, a data disc, music, installation of Nero 6.0 (recommended for the drive)
will not work. Does the cdrw side of the drive sound bad? (the second streight cd drive works fine and performs all function it should)-

The only other event during dvd install (done first) was an intial WMA
change when first installing the dvd software, but the change took and the reinstall indicated that the change was successful. I've done this on others combination drives before without creating any issues like this, so I either did something with the WMA change or it's a bad cdrw....would anyone care to speculate??? I would appreciate it! (if this is a bad drive, I can get it repaced).

FYI...uninstalled and reinstalled both the combination as well as the streight cd drive and both continued to function as before-

Many thanks in advance for the help-

After it boots up it doesn't give any problem it functions normally, its only when I power it on 70% of the time it shows this screen. It starts from the top and runs to the bottom those lines. What might be the problem ? I am using windows 10 on inspiron 15r SE 7250 I updated chipset and bios driver few week back and also changed the thermal paste on cpu and gpu

Hello, entire 7F community,

I put this problem here because it relates not just to theme files, but is also about system files and/or advanced solutions. I know that this question (or at least its other variant) has been asked before, but I didn't manage to find the solution.

The problem is:
After failed boot with incompatible firewire card (tried WinXP drivers as legacy hardware driver, etc) I removed it and just to make sure that the PC would boot I've copied whole system32 from Win7 installation disk (X:\Windows) directly to original windir (C:\windows) using "xcopy /E /H /R /Y" thus attempting to fix somehow incorrect and not included in C:\windows IEEE 1394 driver in the process. The PC booted. But now I noticed that the taskbar was in classic style with aero top edge (see here) and any explorer window looks like this (notice the edges of the window and compare it to organize/system properties/etc bar).

Steps I have taken since then (in order):Ran chkdsk /f /r
Ran sfc /scannow
Done an in-place upgrade
Set visuals to maximum quality (best appearance)
Reinstalled GPU drivers
Restarted themes and uxsms many times (aero/basic themes become grey until reboot)
Ran Fixit troubleshooters

None of those helped.

I didn't set up system backup/recovery, so this option won't help me a bit.

Please patch your system with Universal Theme Patcher by following step one to six of this tutorial and reboot afterwards.
If the Aero theme still resembles the Windows Classic theme, please report back to us.

Anyway i was playing WoW on official server, then my friend came, i logged off, changed realmlist.wtf file to join the private server (cleared cache etc. so i am sure its not a game based issue) i created a character played a few minutes then logged off to disable an addon (here it starts) when i logged in, the milisecond i saw my character my computer froze. i am using a wireless logitech keyboard and a4 tech x7 mouse, when i press the numlock the numlock led on the receiver was working(its on ps2) but the led on my mouse was off, just like i unplugged it. restarted retried to join the private server, same thing happened...and again and again and again... i changed realmlist back to original and voila, i was able to play on official wow.

i thought it is something about the heat, and i expected it is caused by the gpu, downloaded some sensor softwares and everything but AUX was normal,it was changin about 65-80 C degrees.and the sensor which is sensing that "AUX" was on motherboard so i thought it is the "bridge-way" or whatever that called in english (the cooler right next to pci-e slot) and it was a bit loose when i touched it (it wasnt exactly loose but i could shake it easily by touching with a little force), opened my case, brought a huge ... Hi All,

Trying to print out a newletter (in a book form) where i want the front and last pages in colour but the rest in b&w.

All images etc through out the entire document is in colour. Just wondering if you can possibly specify which pages to print in colour and which ones in b&w from within MS Publisher 2000, 2002 or 2003.

I cant do it from the print driver thus me asking if i can do it from within the application. Any thoughts would be great. thanks in advance.

That looks like you have it in Classic mode instead of Aero. Your Start button says "Start". Mine is round and does not say Start. == Right click on the desktop and then click "Personalize". Go into Themes and pick one that says "Aero". Let us know if that helps.

Hi,
I use the photography website 500px.com, and recently for some reason part of it has translated itself into German (http://imgur.com/l8bxzs7) I recently started to use a VPN so that could be the issue. Any ideas? Thanks, Ron.

That's quite possible.  Some websites automatically detect your language settings and adapt to suit.  Where is your VPN terminating?  Does the same thing happen when you visit the site without activating the VPN?

Over the last couple of weeks, when I go to view a vid on, for example "I-am-bored", the vid screen is either blank until I click it at which point a play arrow appears, or I get a letter "f" which turns to a play arrow when I hover over it. But sometimes the vid plays fine and other times the vid looks frozen at the start point and nothing happens. I don't know if this is the result of an upgrade to some software on my PC as I still use the same vid player I always have.
I use firefox but the problem still occurs when I try IE. I have vista home edition if that helps.

Hey guys,

New to the forums here and i absolutely need help. Ive looked all around for a solution to this and although ive found some good answers, none are particular to my case. Heres the story (ill try to keep it short as possible):

Im installing Windows 7 ultimate onto an aunts computer.
They had Windows 7 RC1 on it before this (they wanted to upgrade it obviously since its going to expire soon).
The ORIGINAL OS they had on the computer (a Dell) was XP.

Now, i did a clean install and everything was working smoothly. I walked away from the comp and i came back and suddenly it said this: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows,
click "OK" or restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

Now, restarting the computer just leads to this same screen so basically im going in a circle. The big problem i am facing is that she DOES NOT have the XP Recovery Disc, so i cant even go back to the original OS.

So i am in a big pickle here and i could really use some help. Is this disc im using now corrupted? In which case should i try to get another and do that?
Any help would be really appreciated.

When I download programs like from Downloads.com, I download them, install them, and run them. However, when I run them, oftentimes they run so that I can only see the left half or 60% of the window. Also related may be that sometimes when I exit various programs and just have my desktop, I see short, horizontal black lines running in a strange lineup, in columns, but with other columns of those lines that are just a little lower and to the right. It's like my monitor isn't configured right or something.

Now and then when i am on my PC it crashes sorta, my mouse stops working but i plug in another one and that works fine, my USB wireless adapater stops working and stops picking up the internet and my stereo i have plugged into my computer the sounds goes mental and screechie and then stops, when i say it half crashes as i can still use the keyboard and use the tab keys to get on the start menu to shut down.

When i shut down it takes 2-3 times longer then it usually does when it hasn't crashed.

I really have no idea why it crashes, as i am not doing anything i can tell that i am making it do that, maybe drivers or something?

anymore have a clue whats happening? please ask more quesiton if you need more information about it.

Hi,

My PC has, accoridng to the latest Belarc Advisor, 2 1GB RAM sticks installed (DDR PC3200 according to the Crucial system scanner that I also ran). But my computer has been running really slowly recently, and I checked what Windows thought I had (by right-clicking My Computer & selecting 'Properties') and it shows only 1GB of usable RAM. This is also shown in Belarc Advisor above where it tells me that 2 1gB sticks are installed - it says I have only '1028MB of usable installed memory'.

Does anybody know how I can make Windows see the other 1GB RAM. I could REALLY do with it!!

This info came from the Crucial system scanner as well:
System Manufacturer: NVIDIA
System Model: AWRDACPI
Motherboard Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Motherboard Model: nForce

This from Belarc Advisor:
Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. nForce
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F6 08/22/2005

Thanks for your help on this.

My brother tried installing the original Half-Life [yes the ancient one back from 1998] on our new computer which runs Windows XP without success. After putting in the CD [a store bought copy from EB] & clicking install, nothing else comes up so there's not much we can do in terms of troubleshooting since it won't even attempt to install.

The game installed without a problem on our other computer that runs Windows 98. To make sure that it wasn't a defective CD, I reinstalled it on our old computer today with no problems once again.

We've gone to a bunch of Half-Life/Sierra related web sites/forums & couldn't find a definitive solution. Some people said it runs on XP, others have the same problem we do. The company said there wasn't really much we could do about it. Anyone know if there is a way to get the game to work properly on XP or is it a lost cause? Thanks in advance.

Your Task Manager screenshot clearly shows you have 3.8 GB RAM in use at the moment of taking the screenshot, and an additional 4.1 GB available. That makes 7.9 GB total RAM. The missing 100+ MB is hardware reserved.

Hello,
I have been dealing with this issue for a while now. I installed 8gb of ram, and was running Ubuntu all was fine and dandy, but for work i need windows for most things, so i did a nice fresh install on another hard drive. I was doing some work one day when i saw windows say "8gb install (3.99gb usable)" Now the installation is legit and 64 bit. I started doing research, found people having this issue but most where solved by bent cpu pin or settings in bios. Now my ram is 4 sticks, and two different brands/speed. The timings are all the same 9 - 9 - 9 - 24 , the Corsair set was 1600 @ 1.65v and the Patriot was 1333 @ 1.5V. I messed with all the settings and resets until I was blue in the face, but nothing fixed the problem. So I just lived with it, until today when i pulled out the corsair sticks or ram for another project. Now I booted up windows and saw "4gb installed (1.99gb usable)" . Has anyone else ever had this issue ????? I have been working on and building computers all my life and never have encountered this. I have a dedicated graphics card, its some cheap GT 520. Im just really confused. Thanks !

Hello, thank you in advance for your help.

I built this computer around 2 years ago and there never has been a problem with it. I am using Vista.
It should be noted that this problem doesn't always occur. It happens around 90% of the time. For example today I restarted my computer about 20 times before it turned on and worked fine. But I would really like to get it sorted, for both the sake of convinience and in case it gets worse.

When I turn my computer on successfully as I have done for the past two years, it goes to the horizontal loading screen, makes two clicking noises from within the computer, the screen goes black and the hard drive begins to spin. It then loads up the login screen.

Recently however, most times when I turn it on, it goes to the horizontal loading screen, makes the two clicking noises and then either nothing happens and it stays on the loading screen indefinitely or the screen goes black indefinitely. In neither case does the hard drive spin.

The only other possible symptom is that around maybe 5% of the time when it does turn on properly, full screen videos and computer games have an unplayablely low frame rate and response time.

I can make guesses at the problem, but i'm far from an expert and i'm not sure at all how to go about fixing this, so any help would be great.

Again, thank you for your help in advance.

This one may be hard to explain.
Here is the problem, today I split a folder of approx 1 gig using WinRAR volumes (Set Volume to 700MB disk etc) so i ended up with two files. so far so good. So i plonked them onto seperate disks and took them to my other computer (this whole thing is a test!). I go to install the First disk, everythnig goes well untill the last item on that disk which is "pak2.pk3" it tells me it cant read of the drive. So i figured id try the second one, sure enough the first file is the same one. Try that one and it says I need to unpack previous file and then update using that one. I'm stuck. It won't let me put the first one on. It just throws up same error message always at 15%.
Any ideas?

Any chance we cold get your system specs so we know what hardware you have?

Ram is ram. whatever you had you have. Win 7 is more efficient at managing whatever you have.

I have a machine running Windows XP Professional SP1. About every 2.5
seconds the entire system locks up for about half a second. If you
move the mouse in a circle you can watch it freeze, come loose,
freeze, come loose, etc.

It's a Dell Latitude laptop with 512MB RAM and plenty of free HD
space, service tag GNL5J11. It's in a docking station but it freezes
both in and out of the dock.

This is what I've tried so far:

- Unplugging all peripherals (optical mouse, BlackBerry)
- BIOS is current
- Disabled Indexing service and some other unnecessary services
- Updated Video, Sound, Monitor, and Modem drivers
- Checked the Event Viewer for Application and System Errors, found
nothing out of the ordinary
- System Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> changed
system cache to get more performance
- DirectX update
- Enabled boot logging (see end of post)
- Turned off Hardware Acceleration in Display Adapter properties
- Deleted *.pf in C:\windows\prefetch
- Ad-aware power scan (or whatever the deeper scan is called) and
Spybot S&D scan.
- Virus scan of course with Corporate Norton Antivirus.
- Disabled ALL startup items with Startup Control Panel
- Run RegScrub XP and fixed all problems

The freezing does NOT happen in Safe Mode. Also, when in regular mode,
if you hibernate and bring it back up the problem disappears. Is this
a driver problem? It starts to do this even before you log onto the

I recently upgraded to windows 2000 from 98 and my computer began running at half the speed. Next I restored 98 using a restore CD and installed 2000 side by side with 98 so I now have 2 operating systems running. In 98 mode, my computer runs at normal speed, 400 mhz. In 2000 mode, it runs at half speed because my front side bus is running at half speed. In 2000 mode, it says my FSB is only 49 mhz while in 98 it reports to be 100 mhz which is the actual speed. Any clues? IBM aptiva 400 mhz, 64 MB RAM, putting in more RAM does not help.

Hi...

This is my first every post so I'm all new to this...

Anyway, every morning for the past week I've had Windows 2000 freeze up on me when booting up. I get the the Windows 2000 logo screen with the status bar filling up, but when it gets to about half way, my pc just freezes. It takes about 3-4 reboots until it finally gets in.

Here are some of the spec...

Windows 2000 5.00.2195
Service Pack 4
IBM Netvista
x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10 (whatever that means)
256MB Ram

If anyone could help me it'd be much appreciated...it's just so becoming a nuisance...

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Please do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This.

It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

My issue is with my Wacom Bamboo (Or any wacom for that matter) and Windows 10. I've tested on other WIN10 Machines and it works fine but I've done something, or installed something that has caused this issue.

The Issue

Tablet pen pressure is detected but will only apply to a maximum of 50%, so lines are very light. Disabling 'Windows Ink' in the Wacom control panel removes pen pressure detection all together.

What I've Tried
I've tried a bunch of different drivers and even contacted Wacom support to no avail. The issue seems to be with Windows, specifically my installation. Definitely not a hardware issue, works fine on Mac OS X and another Windows Machine.

Here is a screenshot to help illustrate my issue. Any help appreciated.

Hi, some of my users have about 25% freespace, but the freespace is almost entirely in the red in defrag. This makes the machines draaaaaaaaag.....

I cleaned up enough space to run a defrag, but when it's done, there is still a LOT of red left. Defragging again says 'you don't have to defrag' and if I run it anyway, things don't get much better. System is running not as slow, but not swift either.

Is there a way around this? I am doing this for maintenance and am not fanatical about speed (cost to buy site license for better software doesn't justify the small benefit) so would like to stick with the built-in Windows stuff.

Thanks much. Sorry if this has been brought up. Did a search on defragging and there was a lot to sift through and didn't see anything that specifically addressed this.

Hello all...

Do you guys have any idea what could be causing this and how I could fix it? Thank you for your time.

A:Quake 4 and Half Life 2 error windows

Most games all quit like that under the same conditions:

1) Update video card drivers and sound card drivers.

2) Make sure that your video chipset and sound card chipset are compatible and supported by the game.

3) Check the game publisher's website for a patch.

That covers about 99% of game problems of this nature, barring hardware failures such as bad RAM.

Hi,

I'm new so be nice!

I've recently installed (evenutally) Windows 7. I say eventually because I have been having big problems with my monitor going into sleep mode.

Basically when I installed windows 7 it would go into the starting windows screen and then after that the monitor would go to sleep and not let you click anything.

I then rebooted the computer and pressed F8 to go into safe mode. No joy, the installation could not be completed in safe mode. So i rebooted again and tried to go into the computer in 640x480 mode. Success!

I was then able to complete the installation of windows. I then went to increase the screen res to the recommended 1280x1024. The computer thought about it and then put my monitor into sleep mode and then 10 seconds later rebooted my computer, forcing my POST screen to say "Hyper Transport Flood Error, press F1 to continue", or something like that.

I then realised that I hadnt installd my video drivers, so i booted back into windows (640x480) and went to install my graphics drivers (NVIDIA GTX 260), half way through the installation my screen went black, into sleep mode and then rebooted my computer.

I then booted into safe mode, which i can now do because i have completed the installation, and installed my graphics drivers. After this i booted back into normal windows with 640x480, checked my graphics had installed, and they had, and then windows said they recommend i change my res to 1280x1024, i did this and guess what... my p... 've tried Windows XP x64 for a couple of times now, but it seems that there's an anomaly occurring with my system...

The first two weeks, the system runs fine. I can play my games, do my stuff, but then... All of a sudden, the gameplay changes drastically, as in:

All games run at half speed!!

No, not performance problems, the framerates are excellent... Its just that 1 second ingame, actually takes 2 (two) seconds in RL!
You can imagine that that is kinda... well... IT SUCKS!!!

Has anyone seen this behavior before? Remember, I have seen this only occur with x64, not the x86 (32-bit) version of Windows XP...
I suspect it has something to do with my hardware in combination with XP x64, but since this only happens in the 64-bit version, I'm forced to see this as a Windows XP x64 problem, yet I can't find any reference to it on the internet.

I'm helping a friend with his computer... it seems the boot drive has gone FUBAR.

I keep a spare computer to toss around, so I plugged his drive in to see if I could get it working. My spare is a Compaq from 1999 (old, I know... but it still works), it sees the addition of my friends possibly dead drive, but it's not showing up in Windows and can not be accessed from a DOS prompt.

The FUBAR'd drive in question is an older 20GB Maxtor drive, model # 2B020H1. I've tried downloading the MaxBlast utility, but there is no option to just mount the drive so Windows will see it.

So, my question is this........ Can I safely tell my buddy that his drive died a honorable death?... or is there still a spark of life left in it?

As a side note... any chance of life would be helpful... he's not exactly the most computer literate person, and was storing EVERYTHING he ever saved to his DESKTOP!!!

Hi. I am trying to copy some home movies that are on a DVD. (They were originally on a very old camcorder. I converted them to a DVD from the camcorder. The camcorder did not come with a PC hook up and the camcorder tape is now corrupted.)

I can play the entire video (about 4-5 minutes) on our Toshiba laptop using Toshiba's DVD player.

However when I try to copy the DVD files onto our Toshiba laptop or our HP laptop (both running Vista) and then play the vob file, it only plays about half. I've tried importing it to windows movie maker, using software to try and convert it, etc. I've tried importing all the files, I've tried importing just the vob files, I've tried importing the video_ts folder.

Advise please?

I just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and I'm having a peculiar problem. One day, just out of the blue, the windows in all my apps suddenly open at only half-size. By default all main app windows take up the whole screen when you start them. I could click on the resize button in the upper right corner of the window to make it full-screen, but I have to do that every time I run an app. None of my software has an option to open the main window full or half, so I'm stuck with resizing the main window every time I open something. Any ideas on how to fix it?

A:Windows in all my apps suddenly open at half-size.

How many applications do this? I know that you can manually change the window size that it opens into like this:But that would suck to have to do it on every single program you have.I'm not sure why it suddenly started doing this. Did you install a new program, updates, anything different? It shouldn't just do it by itself. Have you tried using the Aero Snap feature to maximize the windows instead of clicking the maximize button? I know that if I close a window that was snapped, it will be the same way when I open it the next time. This could have something to do with it.

One of the biggest complaints about the Windows 8 start menu/screen, is the fact that it takes up the whole screen, unnecessarily blocking everything a desktop user is currently working on.

I've been playing around with Windows 8.1 Preview, and am getting used to snapping the start screen to the left side, like you can with metro apps, using Win+Arrow.
Because Windows 8 treats the Desktop like an app, it can be displayed on the right half of the screen, while the start menu is snapped to the left half of the screen.

So I'm just wondering whether there's a way to force the start screen to always open at half the fullscreen size? In other words, always snapped to the size.

This would be a great way to meet the fullscreen-start-menu-haters half-way.

I hear this a lot, but I really fail to understand what the issue is. The start screen is only open when you're trying to open another app. This is not a "multitasking" task, you just do it, and it takes seconds.. The start screen then goes away and you are right back where you were. What is the problem with this?

Hello,

Based on the Windows 7 feature where you can press Windows Logo + Right (or left) Arrow key to maximize an application window to the right (or left) half of the screen, is there a way to maximise windows to either the top or bottom half of the screen?

I know that stacking windows is one option, but that only works to the top quarter of a screen, and affects all other open windows, so that's no good unfortunately.

The main app I want to use this with is putty so that I can see the full width of commands when using SSH for example.

Many thanks in advance!

A:How do I split application windows to top and bottom half easily?

Welcome to SF, w01f,

Good job using ssh. Much more secure.

Not sure about maximizing on screen using just Win 7. What about a third-party app that will keep your window on top?

so i bought windows 7 and installed it, but after downloading some torrents i realised that i dont download ar maximum speed - for example
a torrent from the pirate bay with 4000+ seeders, im downloading it with 30kb/s - 500kb/s, while i should download it with 1,5+mb/s or even more .. maybe 3mb/s or even 4mb/s, yet i download it with quite less
i read last night about some tcp-z that used to patch some system file in order bypass this problem, but found no manual on how to use it, i raised the limited to 252, while 10 was by default
then again i browsed the web and fount that if i play with the registry i might get it done - about previous OSes it sayed to locate a reg key and switch it to "1", in win 7 it had to be created first, i did this as well and i dont see a change
all i understood - that this only goes for p2p clients... soo..
question 1: how do i fix this tcp half open thingie?
and
question 2: if there is no way, is there another way to download torrents via client that isnt p2p?
please help me, im desperate, but in every other relation win 7 is awesome, except this
thanks in advance

My PC
CPU: i7 2700K
MoBo: Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 670
Surround Sound Receiver: Onkyo 515
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

Hello,
My pc has been running great for about two years now, but starting a couple weeks ago I have been noticing an occasional audio "hiccup" once or twice per hour where everything seems to lag out for a half-second. If a computer could fart it would sound like this stutter I am talking about.

This audio stutter occurs whether i am listening to music, watching videos, or playing games.
I have since performed a clean re-install of windows 8.1, and run the system file checker to verify the integrity of my OS files, but the problem persists. I have tried two of the most recent Nvidia drivers (including a beta) for the GTX 670, and will try reverting back to older drivers next.

I don't believe it to be a problem with the receiver because I have tested it on other inputs (TV, PS3) and the problem is not seen (heard) there.

Any ideas of what may be causing this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone. My Windows Vista Home Premium computer does not want to restart half the time. What I mean is that it won't restart by going through the start menu and clicking on restart. Instead, I'll have to press the power button and hold it in for like 5 seconds and then it will shut down. Then I have to press the power button again to turn it back on. What can I do to fix this? By the way, I'm running service pack 2 on my Vista computer.

A:Windows Vista doesn't want to restart half the time

Recommended approach would be to always let it close down itself even though it may take a long time.
Spend some time trying to analyse what is causing the slow shut down when it does occur - try Task manager but make sure when you look at the Processes you tick the box at the bottom wich says "Show processes from all users".

Not only does windows xp mode not support multiple cores, to me it looks like it only uses half a core/thread.
I noticed this because I just setup windows xp mode (virtual pc) on my computer.  I updated it, joined it to our domain and then installed our legacy ERP software.  This ERP software was designed and programmed to run on windows 98 or 2000, I can't
remember right now, but its hardware requirements are very low.  This software runs very slows in the virtual pc, with the processor being the problem.

Matching the processor spike on the virtual pc using both performance monitor and task manager I compared it to task manager running on the host (my windows 7 machine).  The spikes in cpu matched one of the threads on my i7 processor (I use threads
because an i7 has 8 threads but only 4 cores).  To my surprise when the CPU reached near 100% on the virtual PC the same spike on the host was only about 50% of the cpu thread.
The host has a i7 950, 3.07GHz processor.  So this means that the virtual pc can only use up to 1.5GHz.  I have not run into the problem reported in other posts on this forum where the CPU is always at 50% or 100% on the virtual PC because when
their is no activity the CPU drops to 10% or less and stays there.
I will now have to use vmplayer, problem is having enough xp licenses for all users.
Was anyone else aware of this?

A:Windows XP Mode (Virtual PC) only uses half a CPU core/thread.
