From Genuine to Pirated and Back to Genuine

Q: From Genuine to Pirated and Back to Genuine

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OEM pre-installed, it was genuine and had COA on the bottom of laptop.
Accidentally, at that time I was 12 years old, so I don't know about 'crack', 'hack', software counterfeit, etc. . Thus, I thought my Windows was 'low', I want to upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate version with Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I searched key generator (keygen) on internet, I found it and generated the code (for Windows 7 Ultimate). Then, I pasted the serial number (product key) to Windows Anytime Upgrade. First, it was failed. So I cancelled the upgrade. But, when the laptop's shutdown and I turn it on again, it was upgrading to the Windows 7 Ultimate. How weird!

Now, I know the pirated / not genuine Windows is not safe, against the law, etc.

My question, is, I restored it to the genuine version of my Windows (7 Home Basic OEM) using my product key.
But I downloaded the setup using the Windows 7 Ultimate pirated (using keygen) that I told you...
Is my Windows become 'not genuine'?
After I restored it, It is very good, clean, doesn't contain virus or error, works perfectly. Then I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home.
Is it okay? Or I should buy the DVD to perform clean install so it is 100% clean?

Need your opinion, please...
Thanks

I bought a Windows 7 Pro (32 & 64 bit) full retail version thinking that it was the real thing (because everything about it looked like it was the real Microsoft product, plus it was sealed). When I installed it I tried to activate it at once and got the following message: "the product key you typed cannot be used to activate windows on this computer." Re-entered the product key several times just to be sure I typed it correctly, still the same message. I called Microsoft here in the Philippines (or probably their office in Asia) and the agent asked for the product key to be verified. Turned out it has already been used since 2012. The agent told me that there are counterfeits that could look as good as the real thing. She advised me to have it replaced or refunded. My problem is that I don't know if the store will allow it. I think I remember them saying they have a no refund policy. And if they replace it, it could very well be another counterfeit. Is there any way to hold them responsible? Thanks in advance for any help.

A:I bought windows 7 that looked genuine but turned out to be pirated

Try to return and refund it and say the key is already been used and show them proof, If they don't then you can go ahead and call OMB so you can have a talk with them about this.

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

regards

I have upgraded my laptop OS from Window 7 to Window 10 when window 10 launched. Now message appear on bottom right corner than please active windows (Go to settings to activate windows). But my window 7 was genuine and it came with my laptop pre installed. Then how come Windows 10 become pirated.  I lost my Windows 7 produce key. sticker also not available. now how can I activate my Windows 10 . Microsoft online help center said that they are unable to active your Windows 10 without product key.
My Dell laptop model is Dell Studio 1555.

A:Window 7 genuine while upgrade to Window 10 than it becomes pirated

Microsoft should have your product key and information from when you upgraded to Windows 10.  It sounds like there is a glitch with Windows 10 and their license verification service and as such you would have to deal with Microsoft on that issue.  If Microsoft cannot or will not do anything about it, you will have to have your key in order to validate your license.  Dell will not have a copy.

A:My Genuine activation issue although I have a genuine license

Interesting.
The error message
Notification Reason: 0xC004F063.
...is a pretty specific one, and almost always means that the machine has been reinstalled using media other than the manufacturer's Recovery media, while still using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key instead of the COA Key.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed - according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)

Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

I had a non-genuine copy of Ms Office installed on my computer, and have now purchased a genuine copy. Uninstalling the old (non-genuine) copy is impossible because it doesn't have an uninstaller, and it doesn't even show in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. So I just installed my genuine copy in a different folder in Program Files, so that the non-genuine copy wouldn't interfere with the newly installed genuine copy.

The problem is that even though I tried opening Ms Word or Excel directly from the newly installed folder and not from the old link to the old version, it still gives me a message (like before) that says "Get Genuine Office - This copy of Office is not genuine".

How do I get rid of the old (non-genuine) Ms Office if I am unable to uninstall it? Please don't tell me to work on the registry - I don't want to touch the registry because I'm not a computer pro, and I won't know what I'm doing. I just want to get rid of the message that says get genuine Office.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thank you

I recently downloaded SP1 to my Windows 7 machine and shortly thereafter a message appeared on the lower right hand corner indicating that "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine". I bought this machine used and so I verified the key with Microsoft and it is a genuine OEM key but try as I may there is nowhere to enter a product key. I go to start-computer-right click- and at the bottom under Windows Activation it states Status: Not Available - Product ID: Not Available and NO place to enter a product key. Also all of the DOS commands that I can find on the Net do not seem to work either. When I contact Microsoft support they are no help at all and tell me I need to do a CLEAN install with the disk that came with my machine. The only problem is that no disk came with this machine. I have also been told by "Tech support" since I have an OEM key I just cannot use ANY install win 7 disk. I have a TON of Apps. loaded on this machine and it TICKS me off that I have a VALID OEM key and seemingly no way to enter or fix which I suspect is a Microsoft bug to begin with as they have overshot to prevent piracy. Someone Please help!

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hi, I'm in a bit of a pickle and I'm wondering if anyone here can give me some advice?

Just over a month ago I bought a laptop from a local shop that came with Windows 8.1 installed. I've spent the time since then installing programs, copying all my files over and most importantly tweaking a lot of things to get everything looking and working just how I want it to.

I'm really happy with it now but last week I found out that the shop I bought it from had closed down and the man running it has been arrested for supplying & installing counterfeit software (among other things). I didn't get any sort of documentation or discs with the laptop and there is a Windows sticker on the bottom but all the writing is sort of faded/rubbed off so I'm pretty sure that the copy of Windows on my system is dodgy.

I've ordered a legal copy of Windows 8.1 from Amazon but I really don't want to start from scratch and install everything all over again - I can't even remember exactly what settings and tweaks I have implemented on the system so it wouldn't be an easy task at all to get it back to its current state.

Is there any way that I can just copy my files, installed programs, settings etc. so that when I get the genuine Windows 8.1 and install it, I can just restore the backup and have everything exactly as it is now?

Thanks
Jamie

A friend of mine has a Windows XP Home Edition machine running Service Pack 2. She called me along this afternoon because she has been having problems with the machine for several weeks! Anyway this machine runs Norton Internet Security Center which was up to date as of a few weeks ago, but because of her problem it no longer seems able to complete its update process although she has 322 days left of her subscription. I tried several times but each time the update process terminated after doing some of the downloads. There is also an icon in her system tray area (right hand side) which refers to the non-genuine windows message and tells her to clickon it to resolve the non-genuine Windows problem.

The problem she has is that on boot up she gets a message saying that her version of Windows is not genuine (it is since it was supplied with the machine 4 years ago) and what is more it talks about Windows XP Professional whereas she has Windows XP Home. In addition to these messages which give her the option to resolve the problem now or later, she gets pop-ups at various times saying that her copy of Windows is not genuine, maybe counterfeit etc.

In addition when these problems started to occur she says she was no longer able to connect to the internet (she has a router and broadband) - I noticed that her connection was disabled so I re-enabled this and we can now connect to the Internet.

She also has problems with IE (think it is V8) whereby it comes up with an error aft... Read more

My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop suddenly has decided Windows is not Genuine. I put in the number on the bottom of the laptop and it says it is verified and good. But then after a while it goes back to saying it is not Genuine. I am out of the country at the moment, and I need to fix this in the meantime. I do Slui 3 and fix it, because if I try to go online to do this it won't finish it up, it just sits there loading. I haven't had issues with this laptop at all otherwise. Been using it for years. Bought it brand new. I do have virus protection but I am beginning to wonder if this is a virus? Or something like that? You would think that after entering the right number and getting the yes this is valid that it would be fine?

Hello, I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I am a bit worried, although I can always solve the problem, it still irritates me when I see the 'Windows not genuine' message. What could be the cause of the problem and what is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hello all, and thank you for the oppurtunity to post.
I got a Pop-up, titled Microsoft Security Essential, which states I am infected by a Trojan. At the same time I was surprised to see a Windows Genuine notification , which stated that because I have made major changes since I first loaded Windows XP Pro, I now have to reactivate windows. Is this for real? The Microsoft notice will not go away no matter what I do, it sits in the middle of the screen and resists all efforts to close. If this is a Virus I am sure I will need Help in removing. Thanking you in advance,

I have a laptop purchased several years ago off e-bay with Win 7 installed and it worked fine for well over a year but then I got the " This in not a genuine win 7 blah blah and black screen. It was a little late to return the computer like over a year or more so I have just been using it with ugly accusatory messages and black screen! Ok Microsoft you win, I bought a legit new two DVD 32 and 64 bit Win 7. Since the machine came with the Ultimate version I bought the ultimate version.

Here is what I want to know. How do I substitute this genuine version for my bad version without losing my other programs? I don't want to start all over as I have a whole lot of programs that I want to keep as is. Can I do that?

Hello w6k and welcome to Seven Forums.

If everythig is working OK on your computer it should be just a simple matter of changing the invalid Product Key with the PK from your newly purchased disk.

Spurred by user pressure...Microsoft yesterday released an updated version of its antipiracy program that changes the frequency with which it checks for pirated or counterfeit copies of its client OS (operating system). An updated version of Microsoft's WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) Notifications program available now no longer checks a server-side configuration of a user's version of Windows every time the user logs on to see if it is a valid copy of Windows. Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

Thanks.

Hey guys,

I understand i'm new here and haven't made any posts yet, but I am in dire need for some unofficial tech help!

Basically have been running an OEM version of Windows 7 64-bit on a custom built machine (Possibly bought this from Amazon or another online retailer)
Recently i disposed of the retail box but kept a backup of the serial code on my computer, as I moved into my University accommodation and didn't need it.

So I boot up my PC after having windows 7 installed for at least 8 months or so, and my desktop is black with "this copy of windows is not genuine" (build 7600).
I rang Microsoft for an explanation and after being moved through 3 departments I was asked for my serial code and was told I had to buy a new code as this code was "MSDN" or something and was counterfeit. I tried explaining to the guy that i bought my OEM license from a reputable retailer (like I said, I think it's Amazon or possibly Play.com) but the only answer he'd give me is to buy a new copy, or to contact the retailer directly, and refused to pass me up to a supervisor.

How the heck am I supposed to demand a refund for a product they supplied to me 8 months ago?? I'm about to call them now but was hoping for any advice at all if possible whether its a number to call or soemthing I can check on my PC.

I would be so grateful for the help!
Thanks guys,

Tom

EDIT:
Sorry just to clarify,I haven't installed my OEM serial on any other machine, or updated my motherboard! :/... Read more

A:Genuine bought OEM now "not genuine"

I would keep trying to get a supervisor on the line. The first tier of call center monkeys probably have to get approval from a supervisor anyway before they can tell anyone anything other than "buy a new key". It's possible that you were scammed into paying for a pirated or hacked windows disk. Some of the counterfeits I've seen pictures of can look legitimate until you compare them to the real thing, however, I think it's more likely that you ended up talking to a couple of douchebags who enjoy using what little power they have to ruin someone's day. Keep calling until you get someone with a little sense

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

Having upgrade from Win 7 pro to 10 and win 10 being activated since the 29th July, I decided to revert back to 7. Having removed the Windows.old from my drive I had to do a clean install. That's when the trouble started. I installed win 7 pro and tried to activate it, only to be told that my product number was blocked.

I have in front of me the boxed Windows 7 pro, bought a good few years ago with the legit product number.
So I contacted Microsoft only to be told that my product number was counterfeit. At no time was my copy anything other than genuine. In the system page it was always shown as a genuine Microsoft product.

So it looks like Microsoft has screwed me over. Just to be clear this Win 7 was purchased from a reputable dealer, no ebay or second rate sites.
So I'm snookered, I either stay with 10 or buy another copy of Win pro.

A:Genuine ID

Did MS tell you that your Win 7 key was outright counterfeit---which would mean that it was never legit, even months ago before you even considered Windows 10?

Or did they tell you that the Windows 7 key was simply blocked for an unknown reason? Or no longer valid although it may have been at one time?

I assume you talked to a human being? Did that one human make the decision on his own? I'm wondering if you'd have got a different result if you had lucked out and got someone else on the phone.

This is one of the things that keeps me reticent about Windows 10.

Too late now, but I wonder if an image restoration of your Windows 7 installation would have necessarily been successful.

I bought a Retail box of Windows 7 Pro for my wife's soon to be built pc.
The purchase was through Amazon and a company in Laguna Hills, Ca.
The price was decent and I've never had a problem with Amazon before so why not?
Got the package today in the mail and just opened it.
The upper edge of the blue Windows 7 cardboard sleeve is bent over and slightly separated. The shrink wrap is wrinkled in the same area.
Removing the plastic case from the cardboard holder I can see that the seal appears to be compromised.
There is a 'bar or line' which is part of the seal that is showing red except near the center, where it is silver.
Also, the squiggly line that runs the length of the seal along the words 'Win Pro 7 English US only DVD' seems to be slightly separated.
I've never dealt with anything like this before and could use some advice. Is there a way of using the numbers on that label to tell if this is genuine or should I try to get a new copy?
Thanks for any help.

This is just a question a friend was wondering and so was i.
He wants to re-install windows on his system, its all legit, he has a sticker on there with a code and everything. When he bought it from PC World, it came installed with XP Home, but no Windows disc. Anyway, his PC is now clogged up with so many programmes and files over the years, he wants to wipe it and go back to day 1 again. So he wants to know:

Because he never got a Windows XP disc, can he use someone elses, but use his own number that is on the sticker on his PC?

Would that be legal, and if so, would it work? and if yes to both those questions, could he do it with XP Pro (im guessing not with it having more features) or would it need to be XP Home?

I just remember reading ages ago, i think, that the above is ok to do, as windows is registered with the number and not the disc and is therefore safe and legal to do.

Thanks!

A:Xp Genuine Cd

It is possible, but if the original operating system was Home Edition, he will have to reinstall Home Edition again in order for the key on the sticker to work. In other words, the key is proprietary for Home Edition and will not work with XP Pro.If the CD he uses is an OEM restore disk, he may have to manually change the key after installation.

So back in November or December the CPU fan of my HP Envy died and I had to take it to a shop and have it replaced. While I was there I also had the keyboard replaced as the space key had been broken.

I get the computer back and the techs had so nicely taken the time to run a virus scan, give my computer a tune up, and install windows updates. They felt my computer was 'running slow' and that I might have a virus.

... In the wake of getting my machine back I started getting notices that my copy of windows is no longer genuine.
But it is.

I went through some tech support with Microsoft where they went ahead and 'fixed' it only for it to happen again. I gave up and set the computer aside for six months, unable to fix the problem. Flash forward.

Apparently around that time there was a software release that made a bunch of windows copies show as not genuine. I install windows updates that happened in the month I just stopped dealing with this machine.

I called Microsoft and flailed and they confirmed that the code on the bottom of my computer is indeed a valid, genuine copy of windows. Because it is OEM I need to go to the manufacturer, HP, to get things fixed.

So I called HP. They want me to do a factory reset and/or run the recovery discs. Both of which will result in me COMPLETELY LOSING ALL OF MY DATA and resetting the machine back to factory default. This, of course, sounds like a load of bull to m... Read more

Hi guys,
I hope someone can give me some advice. Non-computer literate girlfriend bought an ACER laptop with OS pre-installed and no disks. The laptop was purchased from a reputable retailer in a shopping mall about 4 years ago and was primarily used for email, facebook, skype and games. I gave my girlfriend some basic instruction but noticed she had no on-line protection so I downloaded a firewall, AV and cleaning applications. I checked and cleaned up every few months, finding the occasional trojan etc, and also downloaded updates. She reported some performance problems when I was away working and took the laptop to the mall who identified and removed a virus. Another issue was that the battery started to fail and had to be replaced last year. The only other significant issue was that I tried to update to Win 8 and all started well but the install failed and further attempts just resulted in the disk not being read and a message saying that UDF system was needed. I downloaded the recommended UDF reader but no change. With all the hype surrounding Win 10, I have been cleaning and updating the laptop over the past week and noticed a lot of some Windows Update download failures. I managed to get these to download and install in batches although this sometimes took 3-4 times. Sfc /scannow would not get past 44% until I ran chkdsk / r and /f and then everything was okay except that now Windows is no longer activated and does not accept the product key. I downloaded a... So I have a very interesting problems.
I own a Toshiba Laptop.  Brought it brand new in a fully sealed box from I wanna say either NewEgg, CompUSA, or similar store.  It was purchased about 4yrs ago.
About 9months ago the laptop's screen died on me so I transplanted the hard drive into a desktop as the main drive and I have been using that ever since.

A couple days ago I got a warning saying my version of Win 7 Home Premium was not genuine.  This totally threw me off because I've NEVER re-installed the OS, or anything of that sort.  So now it appears the only option Microsoft is giving me is to purchase a legit version of Win7.

Now I have the original Laptop shell, and it still has a readable Product Key, my question is will that do me any good?

A:Not Genuine

When you activate Windows, it creates a unique identifier, based on the current hardware.  When there is a significant change in hardware, the unique identifier is validate by M$, and if it is far enough off, it become invalid, and you have to reactivate it.
This should answer your questions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/activating-windows-faq#1TC=windows-7
Basically, reenter the key, and reactivate.

Best of luck!

I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium on it, then on the Windows website bought a GENUINE version of Windows 7 Ultimate, but after I installed the update KB971033, I turned on my computer and logged in. And a message popped up saying "This is NOT Genuine Windows, please purchase one online or locally". And I had to pay like $300.00 on the Windows website! Could anyone help?

A:Not genuine eh?

strange indeed, but you can uninstall the update. there's an option in the "installed updates" window. I would recommend you to do this. From what I've seen posted around the internet, there are issues with this update including ethical ones.

About four months ago i put windows 7 64 bit ultimate, that i got from my roommate, on my computer. it has worked great for months and just a few minutes ago i went to my desktop, and my background had changed to black and there is now the words "Windows 7 Build 7600 This Copy of Windows is not genuine." Why did all of a sudden that pop up? is there away to either make it genuine or a way to make the words go away?

A:Not a genuine???

If you didn't pay for it, no. If you did and can prove it, contact microsoft.

I am using Windows 7 aswell and have Avast Premium installed too.
After a critical Windows update this weekend, my legitimate OEM Dell operating system suddenly flagged up as a non-genuine copy.

Avast was updated this weekend too, however this is not the issue, it was coincidental to update at the same time. I have eliminated this is an issue by doing a system restore before Avast made an update, I then disabled Windows update immediately and proceeded to update Avast and there are no problems.

The two recent critical Windows Update's are causing these problems on my system:
1. My internet is partly connected..
(the network symbol in the right hand start menu usually shows a sky blue disc shaped sign when my Ethernet is connecting, this particular occasion it remains instead of dissapearing).
2. The start menu is malfunctioning..
(when I load start menu programs like MS Paint do not visibly load on my desktop, they run hidden in the background and can be seen in 'processes' in the task manager).

A:non-genuine

As it worked for me, I would suggest Starting your PC, hit F8 repeatedly until a screen prompt arrives. In the prompt, find System Restore.
Do a System restore before Avast and Windows Update installed anything.
This should restore your PC back to how it was before.

Disable Windows Update when you successfully load windows. You can update Avast without any issue.
These critical updates are the problem, I personally will make a complaint to microsoft.

I bought Win 7 Pro direct from Microsoft. I've been running it ever since without a problem until about three months ago. Now every so often (theres no pattern I can tell) I get the "not genuine" warning on the bottom right of my desktop. To remove it I right click "computer" in the start menu and click "properties" and the "not genuine" warning goes away. Here is the report

what is a Genuine product key

someone help me,
my computer,keeps saying that i am a counterfiet,and i need a genuine product key

what is it,
any help will work

A:What--genuine---what

It is the product key that came with authentic Microsoft software that has not been used on any other computer.

If you have a legitimate installation use the call in method to authenticate Windows (or other Microsoft Software)

Click start/programs/accessories/authenticate and it will give you two options - one to authenticate over the internet and if that fails it will give you toll free phone numbers to call.

If you do not authenticate Windows (or whatever other software it is) will shut down and become inoperable in 30 days.

You are using the well known stolen Lenova key to activate the current installation. The ONLY way to have a genuine installation is to purchase a genuine licence.

A:windows 7 non genuine

Hi Cossie,

When you've installed Windows with the same key for the 5th time in a row, your license has been "Used up" and will not be able to activate any more clients. This is a security precaution so that you cant buy 1 license and distribute it to 100 clients.

What you need to do (if you have a Genuine version) is to call a Microsoft Activation Center, or their supportline. They will then help you reactivate your Windows.

If you don't have a genuine Windows, with a valid serial key, you need to buy one.

A:Windows 7 Pro MS indicates Not Genuine

Where did you get Win7?

Did it come preinstalled on your PC as there should be a COA sticker affixed with shows the licensed version and can be used to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If so I'd reinstall the Product Key now at Computer>Properties activation link.

If you bought a retail copy the "OEM" in Product ID means it likely is a pirated bootleg copy. I would ask for my money back, or contact MS Customer Service which has a program to provide a replacement copy for those who cooperate with investigating piracy.

I would like to sell it on but is there any way for me to check that it's a genuine copy as I don't want this to reflect on my ebay feedback and be accused of trying to rip someone off and probably receive a ban?
Thanks.

Microsoft at the present does not have a method to check for validity outside of installing it and then registering it.

Okay, here's the rub. I bought an original disk of Windows 7 Home Premium. The reason why I bought the disk is to repair a blue error screen which is already solved. Now, I've been on to several times of reformat, then format again my PC. All those times I still don't have problems activating the product key which is found on the back part of the CD case. Then one time when I tried to type the product key, the computer says that It's not valid or something because it is not allowed on my region. Then I re-checked the product key I typed if it was wrong but I was correct in typing the product key. It says on the CD case that its distributed only on the southeast asia region(SEA). I'm in southeast asia so why I get the problem of not activating my windows. This sucks because I spent a lot of money just to buy that one CD for a genuine copy of Windows.

A:Windows is not genuine

Not sure about the region thing, but you may have tripped an anti piracy measure by reinstalling it too often.

You can only install and activate a retail copy so many times before it'll be blocked. After a while it begins to look like you are trying to pirate it.

I don't know the exact numbers but it's like 2 times in 6 months or something along those lines. So for more normal caeses you can reinstall it once every 6 months say and never run into it, but if you've reinstalled 3, 4 or more times in the last month then you'll have to call MS at the number given and explain the situation to get that number working again.

first time here.   I have an Acer Aspire that was purchased 3 years ago with Windows 7 loaded.   Now, Microsoft thinks I do not have a genuie copy of Window 7 and  gives me annoying messages. I contacted Microsoft and the support person saw that I do have an activated copy of Windows 7.   Still, I get the messages.    I tried restoring to previous copies, and I tried fixing the startup.     My goal is to fix this without wiping all my installed software, pictures, etc. from the computer.    Suggestions?    How bad can it get with Microsoft?     Do I need a CD from Acer?   How would I ask for that?

Thanks a million,    I really need to solve this.
Bill

Hi Bill,Welcome to Community. The Windows Genuine Check is from MS, but could you please post the Screen shot of your System Properties.Get to control panel>System & security> system. Post the screen shot here, as there is no way that the OS could not be genuine, unless the Version is the same the OEM from Acer,. Cheers.

My brother got this Dell Latitude D430 for me, as well as another laptop, a Thinkpad T40. He activated and authenticated both laptops prior to visiting me. This laptop, the Dell Latitude, has been saying that Windows is not genuine. This is the only installation of Windows 7 Professional. My other laptop is running XP. Here is the diagnostic report:

My computer is telling me my copy of Windows 7 isn't genuine, which is wrong because I installed it with a copy of Windows 7 purchased directly from Microsoft. I recently purchased a 500 GB HDD and cloned my 320 GB HDD over to it, then put the 320GB HDD into my mom's boyfriend's computer, because his was no longer functioning. Then I switched the 500GB HDD out of my broken ASUS G50VT into a Compaq on loan to me from my mom's boyfriend. Now I can't turn on my anti-virus software and the computer is telling me my OS isn't genuine. Does anyone know what's wrong and / or how to fix it?

Hi all,
Don't know if this is the right place to ask for help with this but I am not able to resolve a not genuine windows problem.
I click on their link to resolve the issue but non of my browsers will take it - uncluding the lastest IE.
I am still able to get Windows Updates.

Help if you can please.

I notice the first image below appears before the second one.
I bought my pc as brand new over five years ago.
Or is this a ploy by Microsoft to try to get me to upgrade to Win10 - something I will never do with my current pc running Win7.

No. While they may nag you, they do not make your current OS not genuine.

Did you reinstall your operating system? When was it last working properly and did you install anything between that time and the time that you started getting that window? Did you just install Microsoft Updates?

You have to give as much info as you can.

A:Windows tell me it's not genuine

Interesting errors - but I think the background will show that the problem is a permissions problem rather than a missing component

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands...

Code:
ICACLS C:\Windows\System32\slc.dll
ICACLS C:\WIndows\System32\sppc.dll
ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-security-spp-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_f291e361c550b891

.

Here are some instructions to make life easier

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories ? then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight ? select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at topleft ? select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit...'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Hello just the other day I decided to uninstall ubuntu off of my second partition, my first holding windows 7, this required me to delete the partition and then extend my windows 7 partition to it. This all went very well, But when I booted my computer up the next day my computer said "grub rescue" I googled the problem. I found my answer. First I inserted the Windows 7 disc into my computer and waited for it to boot. Then I clicked System Repair this led me to a menu with certain repair options. I clicked command prompt. In the command prompt I typed

bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

But after this just for good measures I exited the command prompt and clicked Startup Repair after this finished i restarted my computer.
IT WORKS!
After logging in I was greeted by a window saying windows may not be genuine. Hmm Thats not good was this caused by Startup Repair?
Also my build is 7600
I have 64-bit windows 7
and I still have admin permissions and I can do any thing I could without not being "genuine"

All I have is white text in the lower left corner stated that windows is not genuine, the build, and windows 7.

I looked into system and it has replaced my product key with a new one.
This is really bad because this was a home built machine and i have no record of a product key.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 7 not genuine

"I looked into system and it has replaced my product key with a new one"

Not so. The Product Key is not located anywhere in Windows or in the Registry.
It used to be in older versions, but not now.
What happens is this: When the product key is entered during Windows Setup,
it gets converted into a "Product ID Number" based on your hardware, which is then written to the registry.
This prevents anyone looking in the Registry on, say, an office PC, to 'steal' the product key and use it with a pirated version of Windows at home.

I bought my computer from a legit company near my home. Everything has been fine with my Windows 7, even had the nice icon in the corner following my verification for upgrade to the new OS to be released shortly. However, my motherboard had some kind of a problem causing my computer to shut down unexpectedly and frequently, so I moved all my hardware to a new case, including hard drives, installed all the required drivers to continue on a new motherboard and everything was good. Now, a few days ago, I started getting a popup saying my product key is invalid, and then proceeding to give me options to call, buy, or enter a new key. Why would my key have been invalidated solely by placing the OS on a new motherboard?

A:Windows Not Genuine

Simple answer is yes - for licensing purposes the motherboard IS the computer.
Let's have a look at the detail...
Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker from the old case (if you have it) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hello all and please let me know if I'm not posting properly as this is my first post here.  This issue no doubt was caused by December's MS updates so I'm not sure if I should be following this post or another one.

I'm also experiencing the not genuine message on my uncle's HP Win 7 Home Premium x64 laptop.  As my user name states, I'm the one all the family calls when they have computer issues as I've been involved with computer repairs and technical support as a career for many years.   The only access I have to his system is remote as he lives on the other side of the US and when I checked his system neither KB3004394 or KB3024777 show up in the list of installed updates.  I downloaded KB3024777 from Microsoft's site and ran it manually (twice) but it still doesn't show up there.  I think it probably doesn't actually install because KB3004394 isn't there to remove, but that's just a guess.  The problem is that although neither of these updates are present, the not genuine Windows message appears after every restart, but right clicking "Computer" and choosing properties does display it's genuine after about 30 seconds.

Is anybody else experiencing this?  I've showed my uncle how to alleviate the problem for the time being by right clicking the computer icon and c... Read more

Probably the simplest thing for you to do is to try activating this copy of Windows again. You will need the COA, the 25 digit alpha-numeric string that should be on a sticker on the computer somewhere. Click 'Start - control panel - System' and you should see a link 'Activate Windows'. If this doesn't work for you then you will need to give MS  a call. If this screen doesn't give you a free-phone number, google MS activation and you will find the number. It is usually a free call.

The installation is a classic counterfeit.
the infamous Stolen Lenovo Key, installed on a Dell machine and using an HP SLIC table in an attempt to bypass activation/validation requirements.
You need to reforma and reinstall with the original OS that shipped with the machine - probably Windows 8 - or purchase a legitimate copy of Windows 7 and clean-install that.

Hi all,
I was over at a good friends house early today and he asked me to take a look at his computer because he was concerned about a message that he was getting when he started up. I booted the computer up and was surprised to find that windows had suddenly decided that his copy of XP was no longer a valid, legit copy. I found this very strange because I've done work on the computer before, including downloading the most recent updates from microsoft, that proved it was a legit copy. Anyone know what would cause this or/and how to fix it? Many thanks...

A:"Ungenuine" genuine XP

The obvious question is does he have a Windows CD. If not, how was Windows installed.

Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if anyone has seen this before. One of my users notified me of a message he was receiving on his laptop. I went to look at it and it read (not exactly but summing it up) that Windows was not genuine. I've seen the message before, obviously, when installing Windows to a computer before putting in the product key. I looked at the Computer properties and it said that Windows is activated. I clicked on "Learn more online..." to the right of "Windows is activated." It took me to a validation tool that is supposed to run and tell you whether Windows is, indeed, genuine, which it said it was. Anybody seen this before? Or know how to fix it? As of now, the only thing I can mark this up as is a virus, which I'm running a virus scan on the computer now. Just hope that it's not a virus. And if it's not, there's an easy way to fix it.

A:Windows not genuine, but it is?

Usually the fastest way to resolve the "windows not activating/genuine, even though I just entered the key" is calling them up and demanding to speak to an agent right off the bat. Usually the automated system is trash. They'll in most cases free up (un-register) the key so you can re-enter it. Here is the support page

Also just for refereance did you download windows from the Microsoft Website, from a CD via retailer, or download from a 3rd party website?

My mother-in-law somehow has messed up her windows and constantly gets the not genuine windows message in the lower corner of the screen. She has an HP and windows 7. She also has the product key. Do I tap F8 at boot-up to go into safe mode and reapply windows? I need a step-by-step-how-to-apply course. I think I just follow the questions...right? Help. I don't remember it being so hard to put the key code in for a repair back in the days of win xp, I hope 7 is as easy.

So just recently after installing a certain windows update it seems to have made my previously genuine copy of windows not genuine now. I bought my copy of windows from a trusted seller on ebay but now he's nowhere to be seen. Anyway this is besides the point.

For those of you who dont know about non genuine copies of windows, it pretty much changes ur background to black, and if u try to set it to something else it will reset back to black within a few minutes.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? The black wallpaper is an eyesore.

Thanks

A:Windows not genuine >:(

I may have bad news

Ebay sellers are notorious for selling not legit copies

MS has began issuing updates to detect cracked copies. I think you may have been taken. If not I hope another comes by that knows how to solve the problem.

Unfortunately, I have seen this before and it is not kind. You may want to call MS, to verify that the number is not legit. Try it this way
Activate Windows 7 by Phone

I will offer any help that I can, just post.
