WARNING

As I've test the incompatibilities, patches, and scripts on my virtual machine, I have made tweaks to this configuration both concerning system and settings. The tweaks I've made to this system are critical and will cause system instability if not configure automatically. In addition to that, I've made custom scripts made with AutoHotkey to optimize the compatibility of some of my security software. These scripts are unique to each software and are converted to an executable. If you wish to copy my configuration, PM me or do extensive research as the scripts and settings that I made for my configuration are critical to compatibility and optimization.

Hello...

I've recently dented Office 2007 from my system using Your Uninstaller 2010...
and I can't seem to Install it again either, the installation always occurs problem during installation...

So I tried installing Office 2010, the installation was successful but everytime I close Office, Open Office [Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc] there is a window of Configuration progress which take about 2 mints to finish and than Office opens...

How to prevent this window from showing? I've understand that the problem occurs because Office 2007 did not removed successfully But I've followed Microsoft instructions here: How to manually uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature

But the Configuration progress keeps showing...
Also I've tried many Automatic tools for removal office 2007...

Unfortunately, I'm the family/neighborhood "IT guy" and get to do this for other folks on occasion, so this isn't entirely new. I logged into my XP SP2 box this morning to discover I'd been snagged in the AV Security Suite net somehow (clueless -- haven't been anywhere nefarious recently), so I went to town getting that cleaned up along with some other Adware that came along for the ride -- Fraudpack, Ezlife, Adrotator, etc.Double unfortunately, behind that was apparently a downloader which brought in a rootkit install (it acts like TDSS, but MABM says it's Gootkit) that I'm still cleaning up. I believe I'm headed in the right direction, but before I do anything serious like Combofix, I'd like a second opinion.Actions done so far:MABM run to clean up the Adware stuff.Manual registry scour/review/cleanup (direct and w/ AutoRuns and MSCONFIG to help me see stuff in one place easier)Boot into Safe Mode w/ NetworkingRe-run MABM - found a few more pieces of crap, reboot to removeReboot back into Safe ModeRe-run MABM - says cleanReboot XP, login... Google searches are redirected, network access is iffy, router shows a crap-ton of outbound traffic, and I can clearly see that I'm now sending spam to the world via netstat -a output. Yay.I killed every legit service I could and found the svchost.exe that was masquerading doing email spam, and killed it as well. Verified w/ netstat -a that at least no more outbound spam. Updated MABM sig... Read more

A:HELP! Gootkit cleaning in progress, please check my work...

Minor update -- while waiting for opinions, I kept going and believe (without using ComboFix and with a bit of help from Kaspersky's Virus Removal Tool) I have everything cleaned up. Now, unfortunately, all the network stuff got hosed. It looks like ndis.sys was infected and then removed from both the SFC's dllcache and from \windows\system32\drivers. I put a clean copy back from another WinXP SP2 box, but Device Manager still shows yellow exclamations for anything and everything network related (see attached NetHosed.jpg).I *really* can't afford doing a full install over the top on this system right now. Any thoughts on how to get the networking back? If I compare the registry of a good box to this one, it looks like ROOT\Legacy_NSNDIS5 is missing -- but it also wasn't there in my registry backup before I started cleaning, so I don't want to just add it back in.Not comfortable just uninstalling all of the yellow thingies and hoping Windows will magically re-create everything, given the suspicions I have about the registry. I just need to keep this box up long enough to migrate to a new system (which I'd planned anyway).... and that requires some network connectivity.Gahhh... apparently I can't upload the screenshot of all the yellow in Device Manager....

So having got my assignment submitted this afternoon, (just found out I got 89% by the way!) I was kicking for something to do and came up with the idea to see if I could persuade Linux to run Office 2007 - It works well by the way!

So then I thought what else can I try, then came up with the idea of trying steam...

OK, so it installed, and then updated all well and good, and came up with the membership screen... So I made one up, just to test it for now..

That completed happily too... I now have steam installed and running in Linux...

A couple of things I noticed:

1. It seems very quick so far, hehe
2. It would only update at 400kB/s, less than 10% my total download speed, maybe it was the steam servers though.

So far so good.

Tomorrows fun will include me doing the following:

1b. Adding my SSD to automount at boot, so it can find the symlinked folders.
2. Adding my real account once the above is done.
3. testing it with my games, and see how they respond to use - If they work at all. We'll soon find out.

Looks encouraging so far, and wasted some time for me! :haha:

More to come tomorrow.

A:Steam on Linux - A work in progress, or working - We'll see shortly!

So, had another little play with it this morning..

Got my account setup now, and its showing my games having linked my 'steamapps' folder. The games are showing, and L4D2 is working, as is TF2, all be it slowly. L4D2 will load up, but then dies. HF2 runs fine, though somewhat laggy, but it runs.

So I'm going to have more of a play in a bit, and maybe try and find out what these games depend on in order to run in Windows. I'm also going to double check my driver, and see if I can't use a slightly newer, or older, but more compatible version for my GPU.

Should keep me out of trouble with the missus for a couple of days any road! :haha:

Hi all, I've recently tried to upgrade to windows 7 home premium 64bit from windows 7 ultimate 64bit (licencing issues). It's a bit strange, but it does seem to work for people. Anyway, I progressed to the 'upgrading windows' section of the upgrade without any problems, until I hit 'transferring files, settings, and programs' on which it has been dwelling and there has been no change in the progress bar for about 48 hours. The hard drive does seem to be doing stuff, but I can't see why it would ever take this long and why the progress bar wouldn't move.

So, my questions are, should I be worried? Is this normal? What should I do?

Thanks.

Hi,

My computer won't properly turn on when there is four sticks of ram in it. Only when there is 1,2,3 stick(s) in the mobo in any configuration, but when there is 4 in there it won't work. I have cleared CMOS by resting the jumpers. That didn't work. I have tested the ram in another computer and it works like a charm. I have thought of so many solutions, but all to no avil.

My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-K8N-SLI
the ram is four sticks of 512mb Corsair VS512MB400 (PC 3200)

I'm thinking that I may need to buy a new board or see if I can RMA it.

A:Ram won't work in quad configuration

I'm wanting to build a studio PC for composing and recording music. I've never built a PC before, and I'm wondering how I can tell whether all the parts and OS I've chosen will work together before buying.

I tried asking Newegg customer service, but they "don't do product recommendations".

I have a pretty good idea what I'm doing, I think.

Here are my parts, if you're interested:
-- Asus AM3 mobo (Newegg #N82E16813131366)
-- AMD Phenom 2 X4, 2.6GHz, 95W, w/ heat sink
-- NVidia GeForce 9800 GT, 512MB (Zotac)
-- 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM (G-Skill)
-- 640GB, 7200RPM SATA HDD (Western Digital)
-- SATA DVD burner (Samsung)
-- Mid ATX case w/ 500W power supply (Sigma)
-- Haven't picked a soud card yet.

A:My first build: How do I know if my configuration will work?

Hi Envergure,
those components will indeed play together nicely, double check the specific ram kit with the support list though, Asus can be a little touchy about the ram used. here is your boards support list

I'm in the process of putting a new mobo and processor in. Nothing fancy since I don't do anything fancy other than run Photoshop, Paintshop Pro and some dvd burning software at certain points. I have a really tight budget so here is what I will have in it:

Seagate Barracuda ATA 80GB
Kingston 256mb memory ( until I can get more later on )
ASUS P5GPL Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 915PL ATX Intel
P4 530J Prescott 800MHz LGA 775 3.0GHZ w/HT
400W PSU
Lite-ON 8x Dual Layer (+/-) DVDRW

Also can someone suggest a good TV Tuner?

My Computer Configuration:
(1) 128GB Solid State Drive (windows os)
(4) 1TB (set in a raid 1+0 configuration)

Here is the MYSTERY:
I am currently booting to my ssd in ACHI Mode.
yet the 4 hard drives show up as a single hard drive with a capacity of 2TB in explorer.

The Question is:
are the 4 hard drives actually working in a raid 1+0 configuration?
Is this even possible in AHCI Mode?
if this is not possible, then what is happening?

-----

(other details)
when I change the Sata configuration to Raid mode and try to boot to the SSD i get this error message:

Status:0xc000000f
Info: the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

A:Can a Raid 1+0 configuration work in AHCI mode?

4 hard drives in a raid 10 will show up as 2TB. It is composed as follows:

2 pairs of mirrored (raid 1) disk with a raid 0 stripe across the disks. Each mirrored pair is 1TB and you stripe across two of them giving you 2 TB.

Yes, it is probably working.

AHCI or IDE mode should not matter. Are you setting the SSD device to raid mode? If so, that is the source of your error - you need at least two drives to do any type of raid.

hi guys, runnin win xp

i tried tweaking some startup stuff to cut down on what was running to help speed up my comp

and deleted some old unused programs, which i think may have contained the now problematic dll file

dunno what i did wrong as i thought i turned everything back to the way it was but im still getting this stupid error

has not been registered program will not work correctly"

immediate upon bootup and starting to access my desktop

i cant drag and drop anything on my desktop and this is not only a pain in the but, its also preventing me from trying a technique i found to drag and drop the dll file to hopefully reg and fix it

network connections is empty

tried a few other fixes i found elsewhere, none worked and gave me this message when i tried

ethernet adapter wireless network connection 2:
media state........:media disconnected

media state........:media disconnected

and if its relevant and helps solve it, as soon as i hit enter, i can get around on my desktop, yet immediately it pops up not one but two of the same folders system32

and in the services section,it will not let me start alot of the various services that seem like they need to be running to access my wireless stuff ie

* Remote procedure call (RPC)
(This service must be started before other services can take effect.).

First post...

I am coming to you as a last resort. I built my own PC and installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit OEM edition. Has been working fine for ~2 years.
Now every time I attempt to open a program I get the error "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail".

The only progam that is barely working is IE 64 bit edition. I cannot download or run any files.

Microsoft wants 59$to speak to a technical support representative(What a joke, multibillion dollar company wants extra$ for tech support??...).

Doing a ton of research I have tried various things to remedy this with no avail. System restore did not work. Doing a sfc /scannow in command prompt does not work, it does not even run. Wasted 3 hours of my life doing a thorough checkdisk as well.

The error in the event log is as follows...
Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.c..-controls.resources_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6001.18000_en-us_72e6f33f34dfabb9.manifest" on line 18. Invalid Xml syntax.

So the problem has to do with this manifest file? I really am clueless as to my next move. I can not download and run anything at all.... Can I do a Vista repair installation with my OEM version?

Should I try and get my hands on a cheap upgrade version of Windows 7?

I need to set up three user accounts on two computers the accounts on each computer is going to be monitored.
Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.

So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.

On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.

Any idea how i can acomplish this task?

I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

A:group policy configuration and computer configuration question

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

I have an old P3 system that I let my son use for internet browsing, email, etc. It has been rock solid for 6+ years until lately and I think the issue of not booting properly is that the master CD-ROM gave up the ghost. And so I took that out hoping that is all it will take.

Here is my question (and I feel so much like a noob; I did try to google but I got nothing): Where do I place the tab to take it from slave to single configuration? As slave the tab was placed on the far left in the verticle position. Am I correct in that to make it singular I need to place it horizontally on the bottom two prongs center-right?

I hope I am making myself clear. This is an old system and it has been years since setting it up and I don't have my manuals anywhere. I couldn't even access Buslink's website.

A:CD-RW Configuration - from slave to single configuration?

The jumper will fit on the pins, based on what is imprinted or embossed on the drive. It is usually very difficult to see... but if you use a flashlight or other device you can place at different angles, you can see how the jumper choices are stamped into the metal. Most often the center two are Slave, the right is Master, and the left is Cable Select.
I suggest you jumper it as master.
If it is a known brand, you can find a drawing on the website of the optical drive manufacturer.

In windows 7 I could display a map of my workgroup networked computers. Windows 10
does not give me that option. I must use Netgear Genie to do what Windows 10 should do.
Is the progress? The only way that Windows 10 works is through Explorer where you can see the
networked computers. No map though!

Have run into a recent problem were the status window put up by Explorer will be much too large then what is expected for "default". This basically files the display screen the window can only be closed (when the activity is completed, or cancelled)

Example:From explorer select a large number of files and delete..

Progress windows opens and shows file delete in progress.

When this window opens it appears to default to "max info" and will fill the entire screen. If I can hit the "minimize" button in the lower corner, the window will grow smaller till it finally reaches the "normal" size which is expected.

This is now happening will ALL status dialogs/windows which are being opened, and not just by Explorer. I'm guessing there is a setting somewhere which is forcing this dialogue/status window to max size instead of the original default.

Any ideas ?

A:Progress bar too big ...

Hello Mannie, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This sounds like you may not have your DPI settings set to the default 96 DPI causing everything to be larger than normal. Changing it back to 96 DPI should fix this for you if this is the issue.

Hope this helps,

Has anyone got a copy of Progress 4GL version 8 (character) for Windows XP not Unix?
At my age I am finding it impossible to understand "modern" GUI software development. My requirements are just for simple applications where all the pretty GUI stuff is irrelevent. I don't need server/client stuff nor do I want to develop Web stuff - just simple administration procedures. I have tried to see what MySQL and V-Basic are about but the web pages might as well be written in Chinese! So many terms used that everyone understands but which have come into use long after I retired from software development.
The Progress people can only offer V9 GUI. I spent many years in character based development and I am happy with it (old dogs and new tricks etc.)

So this morning i stood up and was about to get into my acer laptop, i dont use it that much and i have forgotten my password for the main account(i use the finger login feature i have), anyways when i was doing that it failed a few times and i just restarted it as the computer frooze(to many times it failed on the finger login thing makes it freeze same way as when you do the password wrong 3 times)

so i restarted the computer and when i got back on i had to go through alot of those system recovery things due to shutting down wrong, now its all done but when i logon(any account) it does everything incredibly slow and i cannot even shut my laptop down again as it wont allow me to access the startmenu even, I know what i did wrong but i'm no IT techie, i only use it for research and playing games

PS: It's not any virus doing this as i ran a full search yesterday(took around 5-6 hours or so) and i've also tried going on with my internet disabled.

hey all, i have this API code to download a file because i dont get the Inet control at all, but i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to use a progress bar to tell the user about how much is left to download. and if you cant do that to this, could you tell me how to use a progress bar?

thanx

the code is..

ByVal szFileName As String, _
ByVal dwReserved As Long, _
ByVal lpfnCB As Long) As Long

LocalFilename As String) As Boolean

Dim lngRetVal As Long

End Function
and you call it

thanx for the help

A:Progress Bar

You cannot do it with this code as posted, the reason being that you are not using the callback function to determine the amount of the file that has been downloaded therefore there is nothing to indicate how much of the file has been transferred and nothing to let the progress bar display anything valuable.

IF anyone has vista style builder or restorator, can you explain to me how to make or edit progress bars? Much appreciated.

A:Progress Bars

Well an easy way to do it would be to open the areo.msstyle with restorator and grab the image folder and drag it to the desktop and then open the folder and edit the relevant images, they are pretty easy to spot they are brightly coloured bars.

Once you have made your edits then change your theme to basic and then log off and log on again, then open the areo.msstyle again and you can either add just the images you edited by dropping them on the image folder or scroll down through the images until you find the image and drop it on the number that corresponds to the particular image.

Then save it and select your Areo theme again.

So i am getting this issue when trying to install the latest GFWL client on my computer. I have deduced that it is due to the fact that two msiexec.exe can not be running simultaneuously, however i am not sure what msiexec could be running currently.

I have attempted to go into my cmd and typed the following

C:\> msiexec.exe /unregister

followed by a computer restart to no avail.

I did find however upon attempting a computer restart that there was an update trying to be processed. I left this update for an entire hour but nothing happened, it just kept saying installing, no i powered off my computer and turned it back on and still had the same issue.

I am running windows 8 and have been having issues like this for a while now and am not sure how to fix it.

Ordered my new parts and upgraded my rig.
My old rig was running perfectly fine before this, and my new parts are the mobo, CPU and memory.

After the Windows XP logo there's a very short BSOD, and then the system reboots. If I try to boot normally, it will do the same thing. If I try to boot via safe mode, it stops after loading a bunch of drivers, and asks if I want to skip loading sptd.sys or not. Regardless of if I skip it or not, the system reboots and same loop occurs. Apparently this problem has been linked with daemon tools which I've never used.

Thoughts?

Hi all,
What I'm working on is a program to run a bunch of calculations and then output results to a file.
I have written the program in C# and have a gui to enter the values that are needed.
The user will click a run button and the program will run the calcs and output to a file.
Now as this could take a while I'd love to have a popup window outputting scrolling text saying what exactly is going on.

How could I do this? Basically I want to open a console window and dump a bunch of formatted text.

This is the first thing I've really built in C# so my apologizes if its a stupid question

2> I wish to change the name of the Administrator, especially Libraries and Documents.

A:Making Progress but need a little help

Welcome to the forum Boyntonstu
You said that you log on as Admin and therefore you have complete control of the computer.
I don’t see what you mean in your first question that you wish to transfer all etc... When you said that the seller had removed the admin PW and you are the only Admin.
In control panel click on User Accounts, then Change your account name.
NB: Before making the change, I suggest that you create another Admin account because if anything goes bad, you can log with another Admin account and undo the changes.
PS: at the top of the 7forums page select Tutorials then go and fetch for other solutions to your questions.

How to implement a typical progress bar ?

what i want to achieve is the logic behind the filling of a progress bar .

if my task is to copy a number of files , i know the total no of files , so percentage of total job being done at any point can be calculated and hence progress bar can be updated .

To increase the accuracy total bytes to be copied can be taken into account .

But what if i want to do this for saving record(s) in a database table .

how should i make my prog bar work.

Any suggestions . ?

A:progress bar Logic

Well, If you REALLY want a progress bar, you can do this:

Don't save the entire database all at one time. Create a routine that uses a For X=1 To Y* loop to loop through all entries in your database. Then, you can create your progress bar logic based on the current loop number. Your % will be : X/Y

*Or the equivalent in whatever Language you use.
hope that helps! -Ctrl

sometimes, when i open Win Explorer, there is green progress bar starting from left corner and ending in right side of address bar, what does this bar mean?

the bar shows up for folders with only 2 files even

A:green progress bar in Exp

Hi kf10,

The green bar is often caused by the OS loading and preparing thumbnails. It can also be caused by slow network connection. You can take care of the first issue by changing the following setting:

Explorer> Organize> Folder and Search Options> View> Always show icons, never thumbnails

This will tell the computer to open your folders with icons for each file instead of thumbnails which is the problem that causes the slowness.

Note, if your Explorer crashes, you won't be able to open another instance of it until you kill the explorer process. So, it is a good idea to run every Explorer in its own process, you might want to set the following.

Explorer> Organize> Folder and Search Options> View> Launch folder windows in a separate process

Hope this helps and regards

Hi. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit. The problem is I don't have anything at all installing. I have disabled and restarted Windows Installer and I have disabled a filed named hpqcxs08 under the Services tabs. That worked for a couple of installs, but now it has started again. I then tried to install msicuu2.exe (Windows Cleanup Utility) and it gave the same error and called it Error 1500. I just recently had an audio problem and I managed to get it resolved today, and now with having just gotten my sound back I decided to install iTunes, and when I installed iTunes it gave me an error message in regard to Quick Time not being able to be updated. I've done other research prior to having come here to ask for help, and I know a lot of people suggested "Windows Installer Clean Up Utility", as something that would fix my problem -- the only thing is, I am prompted with the exact same error when I try to run it! About a day or two ago, my Symantec AV detected a trojan but gave me the usual "deleted it" response. Since last night, though, my Start button and toolbar have been resized to almost but not quite below view. I tried the auto-hide option, which sometimes lets me see enough of the Start button to access it, but it resets in a few minutes. Also, lock the taskbar and the copy paste options are also at times grayed out. I've tried Spybot S&D, adaware, AVG AV, Symantec to find anything but no avail. When I've tried System Restore I get "System Restore cannot protect your computer." I also can't move icons on the desktop now. Any ideas?

EDIT: Also, attempting to open IE results in a white flash but no program. Didn't notice that as I'm using Firefox.

I ran Hijack this and tried to look up the suspicious files. These attempted to delete, but have returned on reboot so I'm assuming they're the culprits.

Im learning VB so go easy.
Using VB express studio 2005

I want to stick a progress bar on a form which basicly shows the time remaining.

The total time can be any value (within reason) and is stored in seconds as TotalTime
The time remaining is stored in seconds as TimeActualRemaining.

My proggress bar has a maximum of 1000

I have a pre existing timer set to intervals of 100 (milliseconds)
Now i would have thought id need a calculation something like this.
1000-(1000/TotalTime)*TimeActualRemaining
to give me the progressbars value. But when i try using it i get al sorts of errors which i think are due to it giving me decimals.

What do i need to do?

A:VB help with progress bar needed

A progress bar is just that. It shows the progress of a process from the starting point to the end point. From zero percent to 100 percent. Make the minimum value 0 and and the maximum value 100. Then compute the percent complete using percent = ((elapsed time / total time) * 100) and set the value to the result of that computation. Don't over complicate.

Edit: As for the errors you're getting, see if VB 2005 still has the Fix( ) function. It truncates the decimal portion of a number. Or you can define the percent as an Integer which by definition is a whole number. The calculation should do the rounding for you.

In order to have a progress bar wouldn't you have to know where it starts and ends

Hello-I have to re-install Windows Xp on my computer. I want to save my progress in GTA Vice City and get it into the game after I re-install XP. What files do I need to save and how do I get them into the newly installed GTA Vice City game. Do I click and drag, or how to??
Thanks--Gomer Pile

A:How do I Save GTA progress to new Install of XP?

Uh.. been a while since I played vice city but there should be a "saves" folder in C:\Documents and Settings\*your user name*\My Documents.
Or if you dont have admin rights it might be under the admins user name.

That is the location to the GTA San Andreas user files, and I think Vice City also puts them there. Inside the GTA SA, folder is the settings and saves... These examples are called "GTASAsf1.b" .... Range from 1 - 8 for the 8 save slots.

You can copy all thats in there or just the saves.. Put them on a disc and once you reinstall copy them back in the same folder and location...

*Note; You may need to start a new game and save before the folder is created by the newly installed game.

Hello Trogne,

If you like, you could do a direct upgrade to the free Windows 10 instead.

Here is my problem, I have installed valid XP Pro licenses on three separate devices.

1. Compaq NX9600 Laptop
2. Gateway Solo 9550
3. Dell Precision M70

All three were updated with SP3 and are running Office 2003. All three laptops, after working for a number of days, now will not boot into normal mode and show a black screen after the progress bar. The laptops will not except any commands and have to be powered down to restart. All three laptops will boot into safe mode. I have tried a selective boot thru msconfig with no success. Any ideas or suggestions?

So, have you picked one 'volunteer' and removed SP3?

hi, i read through the tutorials and did not see this covered or i missed it. i want to change the color of the progress bar that pops up when you are for instance installing something. it is green in color by default. what is that called so i can look for it? thank you

A:changing progress bar color

Still called the progress bar, and is displayed depending on what theme you are using, most custom themes come with different colors to match the theme itself.

You need to edit a .msstyles file to change it, and numbers for the progress bar varies from theme to theme.

Hope this helps.

ok so the motherboard on my HP Pavilion A6010n went out, tried to find the same motherboard around town and couldnt so i bought a nvidia GeForce 7150. took it home, installed it and tried to boot. got through the first black screen that tells you the master/slave, etc etc. got to the second black screen with the little green bar saying windows is booting when i get a blue flash and a message too fast to read then it starts over again. this time after the first black screen it asks me if i want to launch startup repair or start windows normally. no activity in my keyboard (the mouse works fine though, go figure) so after 20 seconds startup repair launches. went through the process of finding the problem 4 times before it says in the log "Root Cause Found: Failure while setup is in progress." no help. any idea what i need to do to get my rig running again? tell me if i left out some vital information, im not the most tech-savvy person i know.

i've got a few aftermarket parts, other than that it's the same as the day i bought it.

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8400GS
RAM: 1GB/500MB KINGSTON DDR2
Motherboard: Nvidia GeForce 7150
CPU: Intel Core Duo (1.88ghz)

A:failure while setup is in progress

You changed your motherboard - but Vista has all the drivers for your old mobo and it cannot load them.

You'll need to do a format and reinstall from scratch. I ran into the same thing when Vista was first released and I changed mobos, not realizing it would be that complicated.

Twice recently, when selecting a restart of the OS, instead of proceeding normally, I get a shutdown screen with the message in the title, plus it says that "The machine will shutdown automatically when it is finished". I understand most shutdown messages, but not this one, because when it occurs, there has been no updates to process, and no scheduled tasks are running. Why does this screen appear?

EDIT: Maybe I don't wait long enough, but it seems that it will never finish the operations that it is talking about, and the cursor just keeps spinning round and around.

Are you using Acronis True Image? If so, have a look at:

my brother has just bought a Dell Dimension C521.

It was seen working at the guys house but when he has brought it home and set it up, the screen is saying auto adjust in progress?

We've tested another monitor with it but that was fine. any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

have you tried removing the power and then after repowering it setting it from the monitors menu

I must be missing something somewhere. It doesn't matter how many times / colours I change the progress bar to, I always end up with colour fringing on the "active" progress bar (Image 707).

I'm looking for a kind soul who's managed to change the colour of this progress bar without the colour fringe showing up.

The colour I'm after is R,G,B = 108, 21, 5 . HTML = 6C1505.

Thanks in anticipation of someone solving this annoyance!

Hello,
I'm currently using the following:
Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise Operating System
Microsoft Office 2010

Using Excel 2010, I'm trying to find a way to display a calculated Progress bar to show "Copying %..."

I have a macro button that copies a complete folder from one Network to another, unfortunately it can take approx 5 minutes to complete. I've set the Application.DisplayStatusBar = True to show "Copying....", but this doesn't perform a % calculation.

I was hoping to have a Message box display the % as it's copying.
Many thanks.
