A:BitDefender Antivirus Free vs Avast Antivirus Free vs Avira Antivirus Free

Resource Usage (eg: CPU, RAM): draw, with the indication of Avira, since BitDefender takes overall a little bit less of CPU time, but consumes much more RAM.
Level of Protection and Features (eg: Antivirus , Firewall, Behavior Blocker): Avira has more features, configuration options and is generally more effective when it comes to the malware detection (Proactive and Reactive).
Overall Winner: Avira.
Edit: I've just noticed, that you've added Avast - as the third contestant - to BitDefender and Avira. Still Avira is the winner here. Avast is not too hungry for PC resources and perhaps has more features, but its engine is not so good, and its detection ratio usually lags behind both: BitDefender and Avira.

I've tried many free antivirus over the years, but these two have always consistently been the ones I liked the most.

After some issues with Windows 10 last year, I had to briefly switch to Avira but after the issues were fixed I got back to Avast because it was the one I had learned to rely upon in the last few years. However, I'm open to reassess my position between these two excellent products. Something that has also spurred me to reassess the situation was the fact that LifeHacker has recently changed their recommendation from Avast to Avira as the "The Best (Free) Antivirus App for Windows".

On one hand Avast offers a more complete feature set:

File System Shield
Web Shield
Mail Shield
Behavior Blocker (DeepScreen)

Still, I disable the E-mail blocker because I solely use Web mail. I also disable the Web shield because:

It seems to slightly slow down my browsing
I don't like to have all my HTTP traffic analyzed by the AV or any other program
Sometimes it doesn't play well with HTTPS because it internally to scan the encrypted traffic which changes the original website's certificate (I know I can selectively disable the Web Shield for HTTPS only)

So, in practice, I have been using the File System Shield and the Behavior Blocker at default sensitivity settings (no Hardened Mode) to avoid too many False Positives and issues with less known software. I've had no problems with this set up for a long time.

Regarding Avira, it lac... Read more

I vote for avast free more options more tweaks u can do in any option, and good deleting " dangers ". ofc software updater desactivate.
avira is anoying when detect some " infecction". run quick scan then many times ask fot reset pc not really good deleting real "dangers".
another thing is " the cloud " based.. oh common without internet cant do nothing really ?..
Abouth resources 50/50 both are good in this, ofc more " shields " u active and more " grade of detection " u activate more cpu/ram uses.

Sophos Home Free Antivirus vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016. Which one do you pick and why?

A:Sophos Home Free Antivirus vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

I have to say that I haven't tried Sophos until now. But my opinion about Panda goes like this.

Resource Usage (eg: CPU, RAM)?Panda is efficient in both of them, but during scans it may use more CPU resources

Real World System Impact?Quiet Low

User Friendliness? 5/5

User Interface? 5/5

Level of Protection and Features (eg: Antivirus , Firewall, Behavior Blocker)?4/5
Overall Winner? Since i haven't tried Sophos I cannot give verdict for the best between the two.

Thankyou And Happy New Year.

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

I have used this free antivirus on a number of machines for quite some time
I upgraded on machine to Windows 10, and installed Bitdefender with no apparent problems.
I was told a few times that bitdefender was not compatible with win 10, but I persisted.
Upon opening a topic here in BC dealing with a damn annoying "freeze' that this particuolar machine will do.....I was advised to uninstall bitdefender, as that may be one of the possible causes.
Fair enough...I did that....allowed windows defender to take over. (it did nothing to alter the 'freeze" still exists to this day )
Just today, I have gone on a concentrated search and......Bitdefender is NOT....repeat NOT compatible with Windows 10
From the Bitdefender website....
Operating Systems required for running all your Bitdefender products (Windows based, MAC OS, Android devices)
Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition
Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (32-bit)
    Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (32-bit & 64-bit)

    Windows 8 (32-bit & 64-bit)
    Windows 8.1 (32-bit & 64-bit)

I have already installed avast! anti-virus 5.0.

For extra protection, I have installed Bitdefender 2009 free which is just an on demand scanner (no real-time or on-access scanning). It offers free automatic updates and allows scheduled scanning. It also shows an icon in the system tray.

I was thinking that by doing this I would have the benefit of scanning with 2 different antivirus engines. But does Bitdefender antivirus 2009 free interfere with other antivirus software installed? Although Bitdefender 2009 free is just an on demand scanner, yet I see its many processes running all the time.

A:Bitdefender free 2009 + other antivirus ?

Even when one of them is disabled for use as a stand-alone scanner, it can affect the other and cause conflicts. Anti-virus software components insert themselves into the operating systems core and using more than one can cause instability, crash your computer, slow performance and waste system resources. When the stand-alone is actively running in the background while connected to the Internet, they both may try to update their definition databases at the same time. As the programs compete for resources required to download the necessary files this often can result in sluggish system performance or unresponsive behavior. When the stand-alone is running, the primary anti-virus may interpret the activity as suspicious behavior or vice-a-versa and there is a greater chance of them alerting you to a false positive. If one finds a virus or a suspicious file and then the other also finds the same, both programs will be competing over exclusive rights on dealing with that virus or suspicious file. Each anti-virus may attempt to remove the offending file and quarantine it at the same time resulting in a resource management issue as to which program gets permission to act first. If one anit-virus finds and quarantines the file before the other one does, then you encounter the problem of both wanting to scan each other's zipped or archived files and each reporting the other's quarantined contents. This can lead to a repetitive cycle of endless alerts that continually warn you that a v... Read more

BD Free AV was just released for the english market (it has been available for Romanian users for quite a while). I installed this on my W7 x64 machine this morning and it has been working flawlessly. It is very much a set it and forget it AV that is cloud based. It uses about 100MB of RAM on boot for a couple of minutes and then fluctuates around 30MB and below. It has very little disc I/O, especially when compared to other cloud based AVs like Panda Cloud. The UI is as simple as anything I have seen, and there are no settings to configure. It will auto update itself hourly, do an auto quick scan daily, and an auto full scan weekly.

I recommend using the BD product page that I linked to in this post (#1) to download the product, as some of the direct downloads in the Wilders thread didn't want to install the english version. The user manual is very well written, and gives a ton of info on the design philosophy as well as how to install, manage and uninstall it. This could very well be one of the best new AV releases in quite some time.

I understand that Windows Defender will now also protect you against PUPs and is much more robust than in previous versions of Windows and provides much better security.
Would I be better off with the free version of Bitdefender Antivirus, or should I stick with Windows Defender?
(Windows 10)

A:Windows Defender vs Bitdefender Free Antivirus

Windows 8 and Windows 10 integrates a robust version of Windows Defender for its anti-virus and anti-malware protection. IMO Windows 8/10 Defender is just as good as any other free antivirus solution (and probably easier to use for the novice) without bundled toolbars or nagging Is Windows Defender Good Enough. With that said, Bitdefender is one of the few free anti-virus products which does not bundle toolbars or have nagging popups.Although Windows 8/10 Defender provides some anti-malware is weak, meaning it does not provide comprehensive protection and cannot prevent, detect and remove all threats at any given time. This is true for most anti-virus solutions. Anti-virus and anti-malware programs each perform different tasks as it relates to computer security and threat detection. Essentially, they look for and remove different types of malicious threats. In simplistic terms, Anti-virus programs generally scan for infectious malware which includes viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkis and bots.Anti-malware programs generally tend to focus more on adware, spyware, unwanted toolbars, browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs and potentially unsafe applications.Anti-virus and Anti-malware solutions with anti-exploitation features protect against zero-day malware, drive-by downloads, exploits and Exploit Kits. Therefore, you need both an anti-virus and an anti-malware solution for maximum protection. I've heard that Bitdefender was the best antivirus software out there so I decided to give the free version a try before I bought the paid version. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium [Up-to-date] and I experience two significant issues:

1) Once installed, I could no longer use CTRL + Shift + Esc to access the task manager. Actually, I couldn't even access the task manager at all. After I uninstalled the free version, I could access it again.

2) I couldn't shut down my computer. It would just freeze on a the desktop background screen and wouldn't do anything.

3) Chrome became extremely slow.

I'm not sure if there's a solution to these issues, but I'd love to hear it if so.

A:Bitdefender Free Antivirus issues with Windows 7

1. Just to be certain you meant CTRL + ALT + DELETE to access the task manager? I wasn't sure if that way even works..?

2. Are you sure nothing got passed BD or the AV you had before maybe scan with Zemana..

3. Did BD install any extensions to chrome? Sometimes extensions can clutter your browser and cause more harm then good. Possible run CCleaner and see if that helps.

Good afternoon everyone,
I hope you are all well?
Sorry to worry you, but please could you help me and let me know which FREE Antivirus is the best one to use for 2016?
The reason I ask this is because I have had to get a new desktop computer, as my old one would cost me more to repair/fix so I have bought a new computer.
My computer is a Lenovo all in one desktop, specs are as follows:
1.Operating System is: Windows 10 Home 64 bit x 64- based processor.
2. Processor: Intel ® celeron ® CPU J 3160 @ 1.60 GHz 1.60 GHz
3. Installed RAM: 4.00GB
4. Hard Drive: 1 Terabit
At the moment I have the following FREE programs installed:
1. C Cleaner
2.  Secunia PSI
3. Malwarebytes Antimalware.
I used to use Sophos Home FREE, would you recommend me using it?
Please could you kindly let me know what FREE Antivirus you would recommend for 2016?
What other FREE programs would you recommend for me?
At the moment I am using McAfee LiveSafe, which  is a paid antivirus and came preinstalled on my computer and that is due to expire, so I want to replace it with a free antivirus.
I am very careful and I do use common sense.
I look forward to hearing from you soon, thank you so much in advance for your help, support and replies I really appreciate it.
Kind Regards

A:Best FREE Antivirus 2016 for Windows 10 please thank you.

There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus. Every vendor's virus lab and program scanning engine is different. Each has has its own strengths and weaknesses and they often use a mix of technologies to detect and remove malware.Choosing an anti-virus is a matter of personal preference, your needs, your technical ability and experience, features offered, user friendliness, ease of updating (and upgrading to new program release), ease of installation/removal, availability of quality/prompt technical support from the vendor and price. Other factors to consider include detection rates and methods, scanning engine effectiveness, how often virus definitions are updated, the amount of resources the program utilizes, how it may affect system performance and what will work best for your system. A particular anti-virus that works well for one person may not work as well for another. Everyone's system is different and sometimes you may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your needs. Here are links to some related discussion topics:Which anti-virus program are you using?Best Free Antivirus?Best Antivirus?Best anti-virus software for windows 8?Looking for recommended anti-virus softwaresWhat is the best antivirus protection? What's the best premium security suite in the market currently? Here are links to BC polls:Poll: Best Antivirus and FirewallPoll: Best Anti-Spyware/Anti-Malware/On-Demand ScannerI gen... Effective Malware Blocking
Panda scored very well in my hands-on malware blocking test. When I opened a folder containing my current malware sample collection, it didn't do anything immediately. That's because Panda waits for a significant event like file creation or modification; it doesn't scan just because a process accessed the file. When I copies the collection to another folder, Panda got to work, quickly wiping out 86 percent of the samples.

It also caught some of the remaining samples when I launched them. Overall, it detected 89 percent of the samples and earned 8.8 points, the same as Kaspersky. Among products tested with this same collection, Trend Micro has the best scores, with 93 percent detection and 9.1 points.

Results from tests with my previous malware collection aren't directly comparable, of course, but you have to appreciate what Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus (2015) did with that bunch. It detected 100 percent of the samples and earned a perfect 10 points.

My malicious URL blocking test doesn't rely on a pre-set collection of samples. Rather, I take the very newest list of malicious URLs supplied by MRG-Effitas and attempt to download real-world malware samples. The antivirus gets credit for blocking access to the URL or for wiping out the file during or immediately after the download. I keep at this test until I have results for 100 very new malicious URLs.

As I proceeded with the test, Panda's stats stayed remarkably... Read more

First, thank you for your reading.
I want to ask you about the better setting for building secure PC on Windows 10 as a consumer.

I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as the main anti-malware software and firewall software on my PC. It looks good.

But at sometimes, Bitdefender is heavy a little, especially when updating signatures.
And booting time of my PC is long. Updating time at start up Windows is also long. I think it.

So I seaching another security softwares for my PC, and I find some softwares which I guess that it is good for using PC. The soft is Avast Free 2016, and Microsoft EMET or Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free Edition.

Which is better, Avast Free 2016 or Bitdefender Security 2017. I will use EMET or MBAE for covering protection of vulnerability when I use Avast Free.

What is Bitdefender and Avast Free regarded as security software for Windows 10 Consumers?
Which software do many people regard as a good solution?
I heard that Bitdefender is getting very high level score in many tests, but it is heavy for many PC.
And I aloso heard that Latest Avast Free gives security enough for many consumers, but sometimes do false detection, and it may be serious for OS at sometimes.
Please teach me about above things. I guess my English is not well, but I will read all replies from everyone. If I will be late replyng you. excuse me.

Bit puzzled between the two AV. Forti seems more feature rich than Avira Free. Effectiveness is what matters more.

A:Among the two Anti Virus, which is better ? (Avira Free Vs FortiClient 5.4)

Avira offers excellent results in detecting and removing malware.
Low system impact but protection against phishing sites is a bit poor.

FortiClient has improved a lot in recent years and now It provides a very good protection level.
As regards the additional features, it offers an effective web filter that helps protect from harmful content, suspicious and phishing URLs.
System impact appears to be on average level.

A:Avast! Free Antivirus 2015/2016 beta3 vs Eset Smart Security 9

I haven't tried Avast 2015/16 Beta but all the previous versions have been too much loaded ones, hate avast because of this.
Using ESET Smart Security 9, fees lighter than even ESET Smar Security 8, loving it.

My problem is, as Im in the middle of the uninstall I noticed the number of items which rang the alarm bells so Im unsure whether to go ahead with the uninstall or manually cut power to the computer as now Ive clicked the uninstall button and IOBit did its powerful scan for remaining Forticlient items so I cant go back now, if I cancel, the 2000+items will remain but Forticlient will be partially uninstalled.
I read a review that said Forticlient locked a customer out of their computer after they uninstalled it.

A:Forticlient 5.0 free av/vpn installed 1818 items in Registry,2178 in total

Try doing a System Restore.  Use a restore point prior to the download.

I just installed bit defender free edition but I'm alreadt getting confused. I can't find it's settings menu anywhere, when opened from the task bar all it gives is a small window in the bottom right corner, the "my bit defender" box on the page claims i need to register it (but this is the free edition??) and when clicked opens a small box window which just displays white saying "you need to have javascript enabled to view this page". whats more i find this page which suggest bit defender isn't an antivirus at all but rather it is a purely on demand thing like the free edition of malwarebytes, what is going on here? Please explain.Thank You. the section marked "important" at the bottom of the page.My machine windows 8.1, previously had AVG but I fully removed that before starting bitdefender's installation.Should i uninstall bitdefender and switch to avast instead?

A:Need some help bitdefender free vs avast free

Can you open the Bitdefender program/interface, then take a screenshot of it to post it here so we can see what you're seeing? Also, many free Antivirus products will ask you to registry in order to use them. So they are free, they just ask you to register yourself in order to be able to use them.

So, I'm choosing a free antivirus software to use on my daily driver (I'm a vary advanced user) and I'm trying to decide between Bitdefender free and avast free.
First, I've heard that Bitdefender is dead/unmaintained/buggy?
Also, I've heard avast is kind if shady, I've heard rumors that when you call tech support they pretend there are problems on your computer to get you to pay money, and that it downloads malware on the users pc (Just rumors I've heard, Not accusing them of anything).
So which do you think I should go with? Thanks

A:Avast Free or Bitdefender Free?

Hi Robo11 First, I've heard that Bitdefender is dead/unmaintained/buggy?It's false. Bitdefender is still actively developped and have quite a good share of the Antivirus market. About the buggy part, it's down to the user's experience. Personally, most of the experiences I had with Bitdefender were quite bad. It was buggy, hogging resources, hard to uninstall, etc. But for some, it might just be the "best Antivirus" they ever used. Also, I've heard avast is kind if shady, I've heard rumors that when you call tech support they pretend there are problems on your computer to get you to pay money, and that it downloads malware on the users pc (Just rumors I've heard, Not accusing them of anything). It's false as well. There's no reputable Antivirus company that would do such a thing. Also, avast! forums offers malware removal assistance in the same kind as BleepingComputer, and there's also UNITE members helping on its forums, so I really doubt that this would ever happen. If you're torn between these two products, since both of them are free, I would suggest you to give them both a try (one after the other, not at the same time) and see for yourself which one you like better. My personal choice goes to avast!, but that's just me. You might also want to consider quietman's advice when it comes to choosing an Antivirus product. also noticed that you posted the same thread... Read more

I'm new here. Wish to seek for advice.

Recently purchased an ultrabook; ASUS UX305 (Core-M, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Win10)

I'm having issue of not resource usage. I installed the Bitdefender AV and realised it sucked up the RAM close to 350MB and I'm having close to 45% RAM usage in total. I'm a heavy browser user.

I wonder if there is any alternative to lessen my problem?

I heard Webroot is good for that? What should I pair with? Voodoo Shield or Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit?

Any suggestion would be good.

A:Alternative to Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2016

I recommend ESET, Kaspersky or Avast.

Beside Webroot you can also try HitmanPro.Alert.

A:What is better Panda free antivirus or ad-aware free?

Hello and welcome to malwaretips,
I think adaware got a better detection, but i would trust more Panda.
Both don't have proactive protection, and web filter are almost the same.
Adaware do more false positive than Panda (thanks bitdefender engine).
If you can use other antivirus than panda or adaware you should do it.

I thought it would be a good idea in keeping with the overall goal of this site to start a thread to give people a list of legal and secure sites for downloading free or dirt-cheap movies, music and software/games.
I believe this would helpful in terms of not just telling people not to visit/support pirating websites,
but to also give them other alternatives so that there wouldn't be a temptation to go there anyway
(And also for people like me that Don't want to steal, but also don't want to pay more than I have to)
Master list of sites for free/dirt cheap movies, music and free/free to try software:
Open Music Archive
Contains music with expired copyright according to UK copyright law, which states that the copyright expires 70 years after the author's death.
As such, some of the music may be considered "pirated" in countries with longer copyright periods.
For example, The longest copyright period I know of is Mexico (100 years after the author's death).
This guy composes his own music and gives it away for free!

Hi, Has anyone tested or used Bitdefender free AV. Isit as good as the paid version of the software of not? Its actually very light and fast but not sure about its effectiveness!!!!

A:Bitdefender Free AV

I was using this.

-It is very light and minimalist.
-Tiny interface,
-It has the lastest BD signatures.
-Behavioral detections
-MAlicious webpage blocking

-Viewing the interface takes sometime.
-Scanning speed too slow
-No additional settings to configure it for yourself.
and I think it looks like an abondoned software..

IMO It is a good choice but there are lots of better and free antivruses out there.
Avira,Avast,Qihoo etc.

Hello Malwaretipsers!
Just heard about Bitdefender free antivirus and downloaded it.

I am very happy with the low system impact
but I miss an exclude feature, and a way to remove things from quarantine to be able to use it.

My question is:
If I use this purely as my only security product will that be enough?
OFC, windows firewall is still enabled.

I use google chrome with adblock+ and scriptno & ghostery.
sure, I might download stuff on utorrent, but will bitdefender free protect me?

Also, the most important thing for me is that it's secure enough to make my banking business on the computer.

Thanks for the help!
I was in a rush writing this, so It might miss a red thread, but hope you understand what I am asking

A:Bitdefender free good enough?

Yes Bitdefender Free is really a fine product, unless you may experience stability issues.

It came as a Cloud Based AV so you need an active internet connection; + you don't need to worry about as it has web filter too.

I have been using AVG free and I really liked it. It did however steal focus a bit too often for me causing my games to minimize and getting me fragged. That really was a bummer.

I have downloaded and installed bitdefender free and was wanting some opinions from the security experts here. I don't see it recommended often, and did a search of the forums with not many results.

I see the paid version recommended, but not the free one.

A:BitDefender free, any good?

I had it on my PC as a backup. So it was not running all the time. It is a easy and simple one I like. But I did a upgrade to there newer version but it was only good for 30 days. Don't know why it happen like that because it says right at the top I had the free version.
Anyhow I did get it all uninstall and reinstalled like there tech said but had the same trouble still.
Then I unistalled it and went looking around and cleaned up other files and folders and cleaned up the registry.
I want to install it again but was waiting for the 30 days to pass before installing it again.

But I liked it and it was good till that newer version came out and I installed it and what ever bug in it was putting a time limit on the free version.

In 2013 I tried Bitdefender Free 2013 on my WinXP computer.  I chose to uninstall it and thought I had using their own uninstaller program.  Now.... 1.5 years later I found Bitdefender again on my computer.  I was running Pitiform Speecy (nice program) and saw I had 2 antivirus programs running..... Avast! and Bitdenfender.  Wow... was I surprised.  I uninstalled Avast! because of an iastor.sys BSOD problem and that seems to have solved that problem.
Now, however, I have tried to uninstall Bitdefender but can't find a way.  It doesn't show up in Revo and I used the Bitdefender uninstall program again.  It appears to have worked but it still on the Virus Protection tab in Windows Security Center and also on Speecy.
Any help to remove Bitdefender completely is appreciated.

A:Bitdefender Free 2013 uninstalled but not

Since you uninstalled avast...removing Bitdefender will leave you unprotected so you need to download a replacement and have it ready. These are the instructions provided by the vendor. How to uninstall BitdefenderBitdefender uninstall tool direct downloadUninstall Tools for Bitdefender Products...Paid, Trial and Business ProductsIf doing those steps did not work, then I suggest you reinstall Bitdefender Free, reboot then try uninstalling again.Note: It is not uncommon for some anti-virus programs to not completely uninstall itself using the usual method of Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs due to the presence of related services and processes running in the background. Sometimes the uninstall works more effectively if you first stop and disable the program's service (and associated processes) or perform the removal in safe mode so there are less processes which can interfere with the uninstallation.

This is a mini-review of BitDefender Free. ** See illustration below in thread and next post for important infos **

Virtually 0 % resource usage on my W8.1 system (even when running full scan).
Essentially requires no user interaction; virtually "set-and-forget."
Requires virtually no user knowledge/experience to quickly learn to use properly.
No cost (but not free).
Signature database identical to paid version (but local signature cache is tiny, so detections may take a long time until BD Free cycles through entire signature database during its continuous scan).
Malicious URL blocking that does work equivalent to paid version.
User can manually perform full-system scan.
Real-time protection (Virus Shield with heuristics/Active Virus Control).
Can Quarantine, Restore and re-Quarantine detected files.

No firewall.
To be effective, system should not be turned off so as to always have continuous scan running.
Scans are so slow that malware may be on system for far too long.
No way to increase scan speed.
Essentially no support (but there is a PDF manual).
Online offers when register product.
BD Free will auto-delete files without user approval during installtion; it deleted Emsisoft's a2hook32.dll during the initial installation scan (see posted screenshot in thread with reason why BD Free did it).

BD Free is the minimalist AV taken to the absolute limit. It is so extreme I consider it "Experimental." A curiosity... Read more

That's the question. MSE works pretty well but it seems BitDefender gets high marks (everyone is assuming the free version is using much of the same engine found in the pay version - I hope that's true). I'd like to give it a try if they can work together without stepping on each other.

A:Can free BitDefender and MSE live together happily?

I do not recommend having two anti virus programs on one computer at one time.
It doesn't matter which two brands. Just install one at a time.
I use MSE and many have good luck with Avast but still just one at a time.

I am actually trialing Bitdefender paid version, just asking because my trial is over in 89 days. Is Bitdefender Free a very good alternative? Does it have Photon, Idle Scan, Active Virus Control, etc? Note that I am actually on an Emsisoft subscription, which is going to expire in 147 days. Also, I just need protection until Black Friday because I will get a new computer then.

A:How Does Bitdefender Free Compare To Other Products?

it have all the futures from the paid version only photon isnt in it(that says the bd staff) but for me, its using for sure some caching, fingerprint system). I dont know why almost all saying that this free av is bad. Its the best av for a user who just dont know nothing. He cant make anything wrong. Set and forget, for real. Some ppl saying its alrdy not delovement anymore. But i dont think so, u still get every 1-2 hours signatur updates, the Forum for the free version is still opend and the detections is as good as the paid version. Sometimes the detections is even better(maybe because its more cloud based than the paid av from bitdefender). If u have a emsisoft key, use EIS9. The behavour blocker is top notch from eis.

Hello Bleeping computer. I come here to seek your excellent help.
So today, I went to do a full scan of my system with my antivirus (Bitdefender Free Edition). To my horror, the notification bubble popped up and said it had found and removed 40 something threats. I found this a bit strange since I had just ran a Malwarebytes scan that came up completely clean, and my computer was running fine. I tried to view what it had found, but it kept glitching out (Apparently, Bitdefender Free has a reputation for glitches). I tried to view the "An on demand scan is ongoing" event (Even though it said the scan had finished), but it said zero threats found in the event. Also, when I went to the threat control tab, there is nothing in the quarantine. I know that Bitdefender Free will sometimes delete infected files instead of quarantining them, but it seemed like out of the 40 something threats it said it found, at least a few would be quarantined.
The program was glitching out pretty bad, reloading the events and not allowing me to clear them (A system reboot fixed this). I continued to scan with Hitmanpro which found a couple PuP registry entries (Which, since my trial had expired, I manually deleted with Regedit), and AdwCleaner, which found a registry entry for a proxy server override? (Something like that), does that mean that I was using a proxy server? If so, That's bad.
I don't think my system is currently infected (But, who knows!). I'm not even sure if BD ev... Read more

The Best Free Antivirus Protection of 2016By Neil J. Rubenking November 11, 2016 "We've tested 14 free AV services to help you find the right one to protect your PC.",2817,2388652,00.aspComments:I always take articles like this with a large grain of salt. There is no "best" AV protection, free or paid, out there.I post mainly because this recent article does describe the features of the various free AVs extant, with links to the individual reviews. As always, the reviews might be a tad out of date. Still, for those wondering about free AVs and their features, this is not a bad place to start. That said, I note that the "Editors' Choice" award includes Avast Free and Panda Free, both of which come well recommended hereabouts. They give however short shrift to Windows Defender for Win 10 (AKA MSE for Win 7) which I think is not warranted. I use WD.Finally, the best argument they push for buying a paid AV is "If you do have a little cash in your budget for security, the best paid antivirus products do tend to offer more and better protection." I don't think that a tendancy is worth shelling out bucks on an annual basis, and I have 10 years worth of experience using various free AVs without infection/regret to back up my opinion. As always, YMMV.

I have 6 months trial license all of them. Which one do you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

A:Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

In terms of UI, all 3 are user friendly.

Have a look here for Avast and Bitdefender info:

Any opinions about Bitdefender Free Edition 2014?
Is it worth installing?
Mod Edit: Moved to Bitdefender subforum.

A:Bitdefender Free Edition 2014 - Worth installing?

The free version is very light.

However, it is buggy, lacks features other free AVs have and has very slow scanning. I wouldn't recommend it. If you want free solutions, avast! or Avira will serve you well. If you want to stay with BD, than try their IS.

Is this a good combo? Free Avg with Bitdefender traffic light plug-in. I am thinking of replacing MSE with free Avg.

So far I tried, free Bit defender version, Free Avg and Free Avast not all at the same time. I am willing to try other free version except cloud Panda. I had some issue with Avast.
What I want are some opinions that is all. Thank you all in advance.

today I reinstalled avira free 2016, on win10 pro x64.
It seems that the cpu usage is a lot higher than it used to be I am often seeing 6% cpu usage from Avira.
Avira.servicehost is the name of the process I am talking about.
This is on skylake i-5, with a light work load. Aside from windows task manager, I have no other process running that is using a significant amount of cpu.
Isn't 6% cpu too high for an AV running on a modern system?

A:Avira Free 2016 high CPU usage?

may be it's temporarily some time and it's gone

I am deciding bewtween Panda Free 2016 and 360 Total Security. I know 360 has really good protections but have also heard that they tend to quarantine Windows system files. I do not know much about Panda except that it is heavily reliant on cloud, which is fine and they do decent in independent testing. I would like your opinion on which one you think is better for a reliable, effective, and light antivirus experience.

A:Panda Free 2016 vs 360 Total Security

Qihoo has one of the best detection, the downside is a lot of false positive, if you use all the engines in real time it will use a lot of memory.

About Panda Cloud, well, it's a decent product.

A:Which antivirus is better Bitdefender Total Security 2016 or Eset Smart Security?

Computer resources wise it's Eset... But, if you don't mind that, go with BD, there are a lot of giveaways from them.

This may only be for the US. A link that can take you to the offers is at
There are a good number of other free offers, including ESET Smart security, AVG Internet Security, and Nero. They involve rebates.

I want to know from Kaspersky and BitDefender users :

1. How are these programs on false positives and over-aggressiveness with detection of so-called Potentially Unwanted Programs or Applications (PUPs and PUAs)? For me, avast! and Webroot have gone after way too many legitimate programs on my computer.

2. Do these programs allow user discretion before eliminating programs? I don't want them wiping good programs off my computer without allowing me the opportunity to whitelist them instead.

3. Do they tell you what they are doing or have done? One time I used the malware function of Glary Utilities. It got rid of something, but it never told me what it was. I have never again used the malware function on Glary Utilities.

I am planning on trying Windows 10 again. I have a HP Pavilion HPE 270f i7 2.8 Ghz 12 GB Ram. I have tried the 10 upgrade several times first time I upgraded it installed and was slow. I tried using the go back to Windows 7 and that failed. So I had to reinstall Windows 7 clean. Next time I backed up everything to my external drive using acronis true image and tried again. I still had slow issue so I restored 7 with true image. I really want to give Windows 10 another chance. Question is I downloaded the free upgrade when it was free. Question is that version is before the Anniversary update. Do I have to install with the old version before the Anniversary update? Or is there a free version with the Anniversary already in the ISO? Meaning I want to upgrade using the newest version so I will not have to wait another hour or two to install the Anniversary update.

A:Upgrading to Windows 10 for free after July 29, 2016 cutoff

It would be better to do a clean install of Win10 rather than upgrading.

How shall users upgrade to free Windows 10 after July 29, 2016 if they need to reinstall OS? What should they prepare for reinstallation of Windows 10 in the future, creating a copy or what else? Thank you for your answer.

A:How shall users upgrade to free Windows 10 after July 29, 2016?

If you upgraded and activated Win10 before the free offer expires on 29 July 2016, you can re-install any time. You'll need Win10 install media, which you can download from MS.
See: Windows 10 ISO Download

If you did NOT upgrade and activate before the deadline, you will have to buy a Full Packaged Product (FPP), also known as Retail.
