Surpress CheckOut and/or CheckIn with VBA Excel

Q: Surpress CheckOut and/or CheckIn with VBA Excel

I would like to surpress the CheckOut and/or CheckIn notification when I open a file on a SharePoint share for editing and saving

I have some macros working that correctly do the CheckOut and CheckIn of a file on SharePoint.

However, like the command Application . DispalyAlters = False to avoid the confirmation prompts when deleting or overwriting a file I was wondering if there is an option when addressing an Excel file which I open to modify or add a record to avoid getting the Prompt, it reduces the click moments for a user and also avoids the mistake if somebody places a check-mark and the file remains checked out for all others.
I hope I was able to explain my requirement

Hi Memners,
I have Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
Now, whenever I try to rename a file, it always shows the warning, "you will need administrator permission to rename this file"
Now, I am the administrator and the only user for the system.
The file is NOT a READ ONLY file.

I think it is silly to show the warning for file renames we do.

Thanks in advance

A:Remove/Surpress U need to have administrator rights warning

Take Ownership Shortcut

Download this and run it.

Right click on the file and click Take Ownership, and then you should be able to rename it.

Or manually:
Right Click - Properties - Security - Advanced - Change Permissions:

Untick Include inheritable permissions from the Objects Parents and click Remove, and remove any other user groups left:

Then type in your Computer's name (Go to Control Panel / System)

For example my computers name is JOESNETBOOK, so I click Add then type JOESNETBOOK\Administrators and then type in JOESNETBOOK\Users (if you want a ordinary user account to have full permission of this file).

Then click OK on every dialog box and you should be able to rename it.

Hope this helps

Hi, thought I'd see if all is well on the folk's PC, since I'm not up close and personal with it like this often. For one thing I think the google toolbar entries are different than they are on other machines I have it on. (Mainly want to make sure nothing sinister is going on, but would also be interested in shutting off everything that can be. For example I did install Windows Messenger and enable Remote Assistance since we are going to try that when the need arises after I leave again, but assume I should figure out how to keep Windows Messenger from being on all the time. It's not enabled in msconfig or anything.)

Here's their log. We all thank you!

Hello -

A group that I am associated with is evaluating a Sharepoint 3 site, and I have been having problems with testing Windows 7 configurations.

Specifically, I have a Windows 7 system using IE8 and Office 2007 student. I can check out, edit and check in a document using Word, but when I reopen the modified file from the Sharepoint 3 site, my changes are not visible.

Does anybody have experience with a problem like this, and if so, were you able to find a solution?

Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi guys.. looking for some support if possible. Pretty much a noob to HPDM but I'm learning fast!! I have a new deployment of HPDM 4.7 SP3 installed which has an agent version of 4.7.3660.23743. I've inhertied a Thin Client estate which mostly has a 4yr old version of the client out there, ver 4.4.3660.12990. These clients are mainly t610s. Ive tried to import 10 or so of these clients manually, but they arent checking in and remain in the Unidentified tab. Ive found some newer thin clients, t620s, running clients around 4.6, and they check in no problem and i can upgrade them via the _Upgrade Agent job, no problems. If i try to manually point these older agents to my DM server, I get "Error of writing gateway address, please retry it", i guess the agent software is corrupted in some way. These are all WES7 32bit clients so there appears to be no MSI or method for me to deploy this manually. Willing to set a GPO to upgrade these agents if need be.. is there any manual method for upgrading 32bit OS agents? Tried to pick apart the _Upgrade Agent task also, to see if i can script this manually, but I'm having no luck with this. Any help appreciated with a way to upgrade my agents!! ThanksAndy

My friend has a desktop, with XP Home Sp2 on, with ADSL broadband.
He started off with the following issue, where when loading up XP, it hung and stays at the desktop screen!!
I have since run MS AntiSpyware, removed 4 trojans;
SpyBot 1.4 - found 202 problems and removed;
Ad-Aware Personal - 2 found and repaired.

Although I can now get into XP fine. what I cannot now do is:-

1. Run IE - this loads and then closes.
2. Update any spyware/adaware program.
3. Message when attempting to get into taskmanager : "Task Manager has been diasabled by the Adminsitrator"
4. Windows Security Centre reports still that spyware/adware is detected on the machine.
I have now re-run (spybot, ms as & adware) all report clean findings.
5. Norton Anti-Spyware wil not load at all.

Please help.

I'm writing for a friend who has a fairly new HP desktop and is running Windows 7 and IE9. As far as I know she did not previously have this trouble as I know she has done a lot of shopping online in the recent past. It's just been recently this has happened.

When she shops at a site, there is nothing provided for her to click on so that she can check out. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Does it have anything to do with IE 9?

A:Can not checkout after shopping

Not knowing the sites with the problem, I will assume that there is an icon to sign out. If it cannot be seen check the DPI. If that does not work try the resolution.
DPI Scaling
Screen Resolution

If that does not work give us the site.

This is a clients computer that I am working on in regards to a hardware issue, I couldnt help but notice these unusual entries, especially the ones pointing to:C:\WINDOWS\system32\system\avgtrfg.exeandC:\Program Files\Microsoft\svhost.exeNone of these directories appear when I browse the folders, however they will open whe I type them in the address bar. Disappointingly there is none of these files within. These led me to believe they were super hidden, so I disabled super hidden files in the registry, but still had no luck finding them.I believe they still exist because they still show in Autoruns, with out the "file not found" entry. If you have kept IE 6.0, one thing you can try (with any version too I think) is adding the secured site, which you generally are using when buying something- you know when the little lock is showing on the page...) Add the site to your " trusted sites"
From "Tools" at top of IE page, select Internet Options, then Security....find the Trusted Sites tab, double click that, type
https://(address URL) instead of just http to add the Secure site to your Trusted sites list... you should see the site added to your Trusted sites list and then may be able to complete your buying.

Running tools such as ComboFix unsupervised when there is no apparent need for it is not recommended.

I see no malware in any of these logs.

You may want to run this online scan for a final check:

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended

Scan Options:Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK & have it scan My Computer
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

I am running Windows 7 and IE9. I just became aware of a problem while shopping on line and again trying to upload a file to my Health Care FSA account. Here is the scenario:

While shopping at, I was logged in and selected an item to purchase. I put it in my cart and then accessed my cart. It was there. I then tried to click on "proceed to checkout" The screen reacts but just goes back to my cart page again. I tried it several times - same result. I tried it on my other computer and all was fine.

While on my FSA account (Health Flexible Spending Account), I was attempting to submit a claim. There is a link to upload a scanned receipt. When I click on it, it doesn't react at all. Once again, all is fine with my other computer.

Cookies are enabled. Scripting is enabled. Java applets scripting enabled. I did a system restore to a month back. Same problem. I'm sure it's something in my browser setup but what? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I've been having a problem with viewing checkout pages on all shopping sites (small and major)., for example, when I press the checkout button it displays "this page cannot be displayed..."

I haven't really tried to fix the problem by myself because I have no idea where to start.

Thanks for the help.

A:Checkout pages not loading

Hello, and welcome to Bleeping Computer. It would be helpful to have more information to further understand and help diagnose your problem. What OS are you using? What browser? Any pop up blockers? Any firewalls? What security level you have your browser set to? All those things can and will affect your ability to render your malfunctioning page/s. I may have left needed information off the list but those items are the basics. Someone else may ask for additional things as well.

Hi, my Dell Dimension 660 (approximately 18 mos. old) would not allow me to log in yesterday - I repeatedly got the error message "User profile service failed to login / can't be loaded".

I tried accessing safe mode to address this, but did not find the "Safe Mode" that I'm used to... I did access something called the Aptio Setup Utility. I don't believe I inadvertently changed anything in it, but now receive a "No boot device available" statement upon trying to boot the computer. I also have seen the message "Previous attempts to boot have failed at checkout [00b4]" flash by a few times when trying to reboot, though not consistently.

The Dell diagnostics checks out without any problems with the motherboard, memory, or anything else. Although I initially had a CD in my CD drive, I've removed that (and have disconnected any other USB connections). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I'm at a loss,

A:No boot device available; previous attempts failed at checkout 00b4

You can boot the Win7 disk for your version available in Reinstall tutorial below, select Repair on second screen, open a Command Line and enable Hidden Administrator from WinRE. Built-in Administrator - Enable from WinRE

Now you can go into Control Panel>User Accounts and create a New Administrative-level account to set it up and see if it runs correctly. If so transfer over your files gradually while you make sure all Programs will run from it and if not reinstall them. Then delete the old profile.

If the problem is not the User Account then work through the Troubleshooting steps which apply from either link below. You'll want to check for infection, check System File integrity, possibly do a Repair Install or Reinstall which are covered from within the OS or from boot in each tutorials.

When I open Excel my personal.xlsb opens fine and my macros are available and I can create new macros. No problems.

BUT when I open any existing Excel file the pesronal.xlsb is not opened and therefore no macros and I cannot create new macros as I get the error "Personal Macro Workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording." I have been trying things all night with no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will list the things I have tried or checked with no success below:
In Options>Advanced Tab>General Section....the box for "Ignore other applications that use DDE" is NOT checked.
In Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Trusted Locations... I have C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART listed which is where my personal.xlsb is located
In Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Macro Settings ...Disable all macros with notification...selected and not selected neither way solves the issue.
In Options>Add-Ins>Manage: Disabled Items ...There are no disabled items.
I have deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel in the registry editor
I have deleted C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\PERSONAL.XLSB and then run excel to create a new personal file.

I transferred all my old Excel (2003 and before) files to my new notebook which has Vista HP and Excel 2007. I open an old Excel file and it looks OK but when printing or print previewing, every line appears double-spaced and the document runs over to a second page.
If I change the row height it prints the squeezed up text but still double-spaces. If I copy the whole content of the spreadsheet into a new blank spreadsheet it prints normally.
Is there any setting in Excel 2007 that I might have missed ?

Running Windows Vista Premium Home Edition.

I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet.that I originally created on Excel Office Professional Edition 2003. Also, have Excel 2007 Home and Student Edition installed. I uninstalled the Excel 2003 software, but now when I clik on this created Excel 2003 spreadsheet with Excel 2003 it will not open. It says there is an invalid path. I reinstalled Excel 2003 and it opens. I tried to save this as an .xlsx extension and then uninstalled Excel 2003. It wouldn't open. So something is occurring here. On other Excel 2003 created spreadsheets, they open without issue.

Then I have a program with an .exe extension. It needs to open using Excel 2007. With both Excel 2003 and Excel 2007, it will not open. It freezes and then I get an error message saying it cannot open with another Excel other than 2007. If I right clik on the .exe program, there is no "Open with". I even tried opening a blank Excel 2007 spreadsheet and then cliking on "Open". but it is a bunch of gibberish. My IT person says you can't open the program that way, You have to launch it as an .exe program using Excel 2007.

Any ideas on what is going on? By the way, I have both Excel versions on my laptop running Windows XP and I do not have these issues at all.

A:Solved: Some Excel 2003 & Excel 2007 applications won't open on Windows Vista

Hi there,

If I said I was confused that'd be an understatement I think. You cannot open executable files (*.exe) with Excel. Recognized file types are things like .xls, .xla, (for 2007) .xlsx, .xlsb, .xlsm, etc. I don't know what your exe file is and I'm not sure I wanna know, but it certainly doesn't open in Excel. What is it exactly? If you don't know I wouldn't open it. Or if someone told you to open it with Excel then it's probably a virus. Unless I'm missing something here.

With the file in question which won't open, assuming it's not this strange and unknown exe file you're talking about, sounds like the file may have been corrupted. Does it open on any other machine? And if you uninstall Excel 2003, did you re-install 2007? It seems strange. I would try cleaning out your application and reinstalling 2007 fresh. You can't install 2003, then 2007, then take off 2003 and put it back on, you're gonna get things screwed up. I bet your registry doesn't know which way to turn here. Some good info on it can be found here...

Also, I would highly recommend you completely uninstall all versions, and I'm talking a deep cleaning, then reinstall. For that deep cleaning, take a look at this article (which I'd highly recommend you do) and then reinstall... Read more

Ok this is a weird problem I ran into in the past with Word, and I'm having trouble finding information on it, because of the details involved.

What's happening is if i load up Excel and then goto file/open and load an excel document it comes up.

If I goto Start/Documents and try to load it from there Excel seems to hang, also if i Browse my computer and goto any excel file same thing happens, and of course it happens over a network share as well.

I didn't give it more then a minute or 2 to come up (We are talking small Excel files here nothing huge) On the last computer this happened on with Word, the documents would eventually come up, but it would take 5 minutes to load this way.

Anything I load withen Excel (Meaning I load excel and then goto File/Open, comes up instantly)

Windows knows how to handle the excel files and what program to load them with, I tried deleteing the (Is it called a mime?) entry in windows that tells excel how to handle the .XLS file, then held shift and Right clicked a .XLS file to re-enter it into Windows, just in case Windows wasn't opening it right but this had the same effect.
Any ideas?

FONT="Tahoma"]Hi All,Sorry for the long post!I use Office 2007 and I use an excel based tracker with 7-8 worksheets. There are macros, pivots, formulas & tables used in the workbook. Yesterday, I was writing a macro to extract few rows from 1 sheet based on a cell value in another sheet. paste the extracted records into a temp sheet, format them ( delete extra columns, rearrange order etc), then paste into a table which has few more columns with formulas to fetch related data from other sheets for these rows. My development was complete and it was all working fine, but the excel was taking too long to save - probably beacuse the new table i added. I added it to the complete worksheet with only the columns i needed - all rows in the work sheet are part of my table. I closed the sheet and now it doesn't opens. After trying to open the excel for almost a minute, I get a message - Excel found unreadable content in 'xxxxxx.xlsm'. Do you want to recover content of this book? If you trust the source of this workbook, click yes. When I click yes, it attempts to open the sheet, but then it says - "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications."I tried, closing all applications, restating my machine, opening the excel in safe mode, but it is not happening. Please help me!Thanks,Mrinal

A:Excel found unreadable content in 'xxxxxx.xlsm' - Excel 2007

Hi, welcome to the forum.
This happens when the VBA code has a serious fault or simply the file cannot be saved correctly.
I generally open a previous backup file. Not the one Excel creates but a latest working version which I always store in another folder, just in case.
As of excel 2007 the file is really a self extracting zip file.
If you add . zip to the file nme: yourfilename.xlsm and then make it and open it with winzip you can see all the part of the file and try and remove the section named vbaProjec.bin
You will loose your VBA modules but the file can be opened after you coles the archive and remove the .zip

I've searched for issues regarding non-working VBA code written for Excel 2010 and compatibility wit Excel 2011 for MAC.
I am currently using Addin (*.xlam) files that hold all the necessary code to process multiple files without needing to use the PERSONAL.XLSB and as eliminating the need to copy VBA code to every file that requires.
This works perfectly with all the Windows Office versions.
Today a colleague want's to run this same file on a MAC book with Office 2011.
The moment he opens the Addin het gets an error that a library cannot be found, understandable, but the Tools Reference in the VBA project is also greyed out so I cannot even try setting any reference.
Does anyone have any experience with this or is this something that needs a complete new approach when it regards Office on the MAC?

I have a friend who is suddenly experiencing an issue where they are no longer able to Open an Excel file through their Windows Explorer (e.g. when trying to open a Excel file from within their My Documents folder). After double clicking on the file, Excel opens and acts as if it is opening the file but then proceeds to show just a blank worksheet. The file does not appear to be corrupt since they can then go to File/Open from within Excel, locate the folder and then Open it without a problem.

Any suggestions? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as to the cause and resolution for this.

I need an excel macro that extracts all data from the form, but with every five fields starting a new row in excel. So all data from the form will appear within 5 columns in an excel spreadsheet.

field 1 field 2 field 3 field 4 field 5

Is that possible? I have had no luck to do it myself.

We recently migrated from Office 2003 to Office 2010.

Just to give some background, (and I dont' know if this is relevant to this error), the Office 2003 excel did not accurately show the correct file paths where files were linked. It would show something in the C drive.

The issue I am concerned about today is this: when some users close files in 2010 (files were created in they sometimes get the error below:

'"The name ABE2, either conflicts with a valid range reference or is invalid for Excel. This name has been replaced with _ABE2"

Can someone assist me with this? I need to stop it from appearing and I am not sure how.

I've recently had to get a new computer and decided to try a Mac. Everything works fine, however, I have excel files which I have transferred from my old Windows laptop which, when opened on the Mac, have not kept the colour formatting from the windows version. Is there anything I can try to see if the original colour formatting can be accessed or will I have to re-colour them all from the start?

Thanks for any help, advice, support in advance.

A:Excel 2003 (Windows) to Excel 2011 (Mac) colour format issue

Hi Wayne, It's not the MAC, the issue is the fact that the newer versions of Office (also on MACS) have diffrente shading of colors.
The basic colors in Excel 2003 are not always the same.
I imagine that there is color formatting but that the shades are off, correct?

I think it will have to be hand-work, I don't know hoe Microsoft thinks about this but, well, compatability is an issue here

Maybe there's a setting somewhere that tells it to use the standaard (old version) settings, but I doubt that.

You'll need an inside-out Microsoft expert for this, I think.

To begin with, I just want to check if this is viable, and if so, which solution is best/easiest...

Office 2010.

Current situation:
An Outlook rule moves certain messages to an Outlook folder.
A macro button is used to run code that prints the attachments of all messages in that folder.
Think it then deletes the messages.

Required situation:
Instead of printing all attatchments, the macro needs to look at a specific column of data in an Excel file.
If a value in the Excel column matches (or part matches) the filename of the attachment, the attachment is printed.
All attachments with filenames that do not match the Excel list are left alone.

Alternatively, switch it round, so the macro is in the Excel file, and it checks the values in the column against the attachment filenames of messages in that Outlook directory, and prints those that match.

Alternatively, write something in Outlook code, perhaps using a form control, whereby the user can enter (paste in) the batch of values, and it then prints attachments accordingly, rather than trying to forge a link between Excel and Outlook.

Alternatively... use some 3rd party tool that accepts the batch of values and interacts with Outlook to print the attachments, bypassing the need to write and manage code.

Or something else?

A:Outlook/Excel - Print selected attachments based on Excel list

Alternatively... modify the existing Outlook macro to save all attachments to a dir on the PC instead of print, and then write an Excel macro to check the files in the dir instead of the Outlook folder.

Problem in Excel 2010 [but revives a Closed TSG thread for Excel 2007]

The "Personal Macro Workbook" is a file called Personal.XLSB
The Personal.XLSB file is in the correct location /XLSTART/
The file properties option "Opens with Excel" is selected.
The file contains a (freshly re-made) macro.
(It also contained the same steps macro before it was deleted
and re-recorded during troubleshooting for this problem.)

When Excel is opened, the Personal.XLSB DOES NOT OPEN WITH it.

Because the Personal Macro Workbook does not open,
- existing macros do not function,
- nor can new macros be recorded

Same not-opening result, whether opened by clicking on
- Excel, in the Programs list or
- a desktop shortcut to a specific Excel file

However, the Personal.XLSB file can be opened and the macro made functional
by manually opening that file where it is stored in /XLSTART/

An unexplained workaround was identified in the closed thread.

*rename the Personal.XLSB to Personal.XLSA

I find this workaround effective.
The Personal.XLSA file opens with Excel and the macros are available.
But the file seems to be grayed out when viewed with Explorer in /XLSTART/

However, I do not like using workarounds, as they can cause trouble later.
I find that the "open with" setting was changed when the extension was changed
The setting is now "Opens with: Windows Shell Common"

I would appreciate an explanation how to make Personal.XLSB open as it should.

After some searching it would appear that some of these functions have been renamed in 2007 e.g. it is now a .XLAM file rather than .XLA which is why the macro code can't find it. I guess I could manually edit all the macros and change the fucntion names but there are other colleagues in my team that are still using 2003, so I don't want to break things for them. Is there any solution to this? Thanks

I am using an ASP.NET 2.0 web application using the Interop assembly pointing to the Microsoft.Excel 12.0 COM to open and write to a spreadsheet.

I have set the permissions for the DCOM to allow NETWORK SERVICE to open the Excel application, but when I try to open the actual file I get Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC.

I have changed the website directory permissions to allow NETWORK SERVICE full access to the folder and I still cannot open the file.

In windows vista the shortcut just opened when I clicked it, now with windows 7 when I click it a new Excel sheet opens. I can right click the shortcut which gives me the option of a new page or my saved page, but this is an extra step.

So, how do I get it to open after clicking the shortcut?

I have put the following protection code into an Excel 2003 workbook and everything runs ok. I then opened the workbook in Excel 2007, and saved it as a .xlsm file. Hi guys,

Since a day or two I?m having the following issue when I close an excel file (extension xlam).

I write my own addin files and have been using them for many, many years.

I?ve read that this seems to be a bug with Excel 2010 but the strange thing is why now and not before?

The addin is not installed, I run it when I need it, it contains the necessary xlm code with custom ribbons and all the necessary buttons, you name it, it just works as it should.

I have one button that either close the addin or quits Excel altogether

The VBA project?s properties are set to non-visible and password protected.

Now I get the dialog prompt to enter the VBE password. If I enter the password or press cancel, all I get is that Excel has encountered a problem and will shutdown.

OS: Windows 10 64-bit, Office 2010 and everything has been running fine with Windows 01 and before that with Windows 7

VBA Editor window is not maximized (as I read on several posts), and when I remove the password and save it and then reopen the vbe editor does not show up anymore when closing.

If I run the same macro directly, not using the menu button, the same thing happens. It seems like it?s trying to access the VBA properties, but I have not added any code to do that.

Very strange and especially I do not like thing I do not understand, no changes made and I do not address the VBE components in any way.

Any ideas?
P.S. I cannot upload the file but the thing is that it just started, all at on... Read more

Most of my Excel files open fine with a doubleclick from Windows Explorer. I have two XLSX files however, that "try" to open when I single click. They open to a blank, grey screen - essentially they open Excel, but the file does not open. (I do see a quick flash of tabs at the bottom indicating the file is starting to open or opens and then terminates immediately).

The problem is clearly not a "tiled window" or "window offscreen" problem - there is no file open. All the Excel functions are greyed out. If I go to File-->Options, i just get a blank grey screen. If I go to file --> open, I can then open any file.

It seems that these two files have some kind of trigger property that starts Excel with one-click, but I can't find how to change that property. None of my other XLSX files act this way.

UPDATE: Further experimentation reveals that this problem is somehow linked to password protection. I copied all the tabs to a new sheet and saved as XLSX. This sheet works normally, i.e. I can click on it once to highlight it and it does not open Excel. I double click and it opens. But once I password protect it, the behaviour changes to that described above.

A:Excel 2010 - Excel Opens Blank on One Click of File

Do you have the "preview pane" on? if so, turn it off and you should be able to view the password protected documents properly.

I'm not sure if it because the files are 2003 or not? When I try to open them an error message appears stating, "...the file you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source..." These are my files. The interesting thing is that if I try to open the same file that I have saved within the last year (before I got 2007) then I can do it? That is, I have a cache folder of files that I go get to do calculations then save in a new job folder. The ones in the new job folder will open (also 2003), but the ones in the original cache will not? I would truly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

As part of updatting our computer equipment I was reassigned from a Dualcore Windows XP Sp2 with Office 2007 to a new Quadcore Windows XP Sp3 with Office 2010. Both with IE8.

The problem at hand is this particular Macro that is run monthly and creates 167 web querys, one at a time. This is why I made a macro. The webpage that I get my imformation from is, which has a login page.

What I used to do in Excel was to first manually create a web query in such page in order to enter my login credentials, confirm that I entered the page, close the query wizard, and then proceed to run my macro. It worked, and still works, flawlessly in my previous PC but not so much in my new one, as all I get from the macro are a bunch of worksheets saying that I'm not logged in so I can't retrieve any information.

I hope I've been explicit enough as how it doesn't work. I really need this to work because my old PC is going to be formatted and my only option would be to do this manually.

If you need more info please ask, I don't think I've been clear enough as English is my second language.

Could ik be that the symantec site has attached your login to a specic Ip address or machine name which now is changed because of your new system?
I don't really think it;s Office 2010.
Your system is new, another mac address, probably a new IP address, new computername.

All these seeminly irrelevant factors may be the reason it's now working, have you tried executing your macro step by step? Trubleshooting takes a lot of patience and time.

I hope this gives you some ideas to look at

On a PC in our office, there are a number of Excel 97 files which have a problem.
I think they were originally created on a Windows NT, or possibly even Win3.1 machine, resided on a floppy and were eventually given to someone in our office to enter data.
The files are stored in the My Documents folder on a W95 machine.

These files can only be opened by starting Excel and using the Open command and locating them.
If I try to open them directly from the My Documents folder, I get a series of error mesgs, splitting the name of the file and path:

Cannot find file C:\My.xls
Cannot find file Documents.xls
Cannot find file \Cold.xls
Cannot find file Repairs.xls

and the file refuses to open.

If I save the file to disk and try running it from another PC, it says "file may be read only", which it is not.

The file contains no VB code and no add-ins are loaded.

I also tried copying all the data from the file into a new file. This worked until I moved the old file out of My Documents and renamed the new file "Cold Repairs", upon doing so, the same errors occurred again.

Any ideas?

A:Excel 2007 Runs MUCH Slower than Excel 2003

The biggest thing that slows Excel 2007 is also what you wanted it for - the greater number of cells. If your formulas have cell references like A:A or $1:$1, then that is a lot more cell references for it to process.
Read this and maybe you will get some ideas on how to make your files process faster.

I have a file with a worksheet containing an Excel Table, in which data will be pasted into, say, columns A thru W. Columns X thru Z contain formulae.

I want to be able to protect these formula columns, so they are locked, yet will still expand (autofill) when new data is pasted into columns A - W.

I have successfully done this in one Excel file, but now I come to do it again, I find that the data will not paste in if the worksheet is protected. It looks like it's trying to paste in, as the paste range gets highlighted, but no data is visible.
If I do the same thing with the sheet unprotected, the data pastes in no probs, and the formulae autofills.

I can't for the life of me work out how I did it last time around, and all advice I can find on the internet says it's not possible, yet it clearly is cos I've done it once.

In both instances (the working file and the new non-working file), I first unlocked all cells, then locked cells W1:Z2 (formula column titles and first line of formulae), and then protected the worksheet.

I guess I must have done something else with the original file, but I don't know what....

Any ideas?

I am trying to display data in individual boxes on screen so that I can view it and move it about in front of co workers. I need to be able to display individual boxes of information (of which we currently display on post it notes) on a program where I can play around with them.
I already have an excel graph which has all the data for each separate item which needs to be on each virtual post it note/ information box..
For example... each post it note will have simple titles such as:
1) Name
2) Price
3) Bar Code
I need to have the same titles on each post it note, however the values will obviously be different per product. I have up to 200+ different products to get through in any one section so manually inputting this would take far too much time.
My first thoughts are to use photoshop to create these boxes and turn them into JPEGs which can then be inserted into one photoshop document and moved around... however I dont know how to move multiple columns of data from excel to photoshop?
Can anyone tell me if I am on the right lights or guide me towards a better way of doing this? Will be very grateful for any help!
Many Thanks!

Hi there Graham, welcome to the board!

I think you need to first think about the "why". For what purpose is this for? Using pictures will give you a non-editable static object. If you don't want to edit it, then they move around with the click/drag of a mouse. Simple.

The other question I would ask is, are you using the right program. Do you have OneNote? Have you ever used it? Sounds like it'd be much easier in that program. Also, are you going to need to print this? If not, and you just need real estate, almost any program would do. Heck, even Paint would work, as you can do Text Boxes in there as well as (almost) all Office programs.

So if you're still wanting to use Excel, it can be done by using Text Boxes. You have two options (not sure of which version you're using here). One is an ActiveX control (Controls toolbox), the other is a Forms control (Forms toolbar). Both have different properties, some are forwards compatible, etc. For instance, ActiveX controls do not work on a Macintosh machine. But ActiveX controls you can format them to look "prettier" with a higher degree of customization (especially formatting).

Not sure if this answers your question or not. And yes, you could do the same thing in Word or PowerPoint for instance. Excel would be just as well, but as opposed to Word, you have more real estate to do what you want, and are not limited to vertical pages (i.e. you can move about freely, even if on multiple pages,... Hello, I am having the following problem. If I try opening a pre 2007 excel file, in excel 2007. I get error messages saying it cannot find certain files. The weird thing is, say my file was located at:
C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\test.xls

I would get the following errors:

'C:\documents.xls' could not be found.
'and.xls' could not be found.
'Settings\Me\My.xls' could not be found.
'Documents\test.xls' could not be found.
Pretty much, for each space in the file location, I would get an error message. Eventually after accepting all of the error messages, I would be allowed to view my document.

Hi guys,

I have been on the lookout for a macro that will compare 2 worksheets within MS Excel and output the differences on a third sheet.

I am being directed to the URL below but cannot for the life of me work out how to implement this:

There are two snippets of code which I will include here for convenience but not sure whether these should be pasted into Workbook Code (i.e. right-clicking Excel icon left of "File" - top-left), Worksheet Code (i.e. right-clicking worksheet tab) or inserting a new Module - or some other method. Is there anyone here that could guide me to how to implement this code?

Quote from webpage - "With the macro below it is possible to compare the content of two worksheets.
The result is displayed in a new workbook listing all cell differences. "

Sub CompareWorksheets(ws1 As Worksheet, ws2 As Worksheet)
Dim r As Long, c As Integer
Dim lr1 As Long, lr2 As Long, lc1 As Integer, lc2 As Integer
Dim maxR As Long, maxC As Integer, cf1 As String, cf2 As String
Dim rptWB As Workbook, DiffCount As Long
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Application.StatusBar = "Creating the report..."
Set rptWB = Workbooks.Add
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
While Worksheets.Count > 1
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
With ws1.UsedRange
lr1 = .Rows.Count
lc1 = .Column... Read more

A:Solved: How to use this Macro in MS Excel (compare excel worksheets)

Apologies... I have sorted this... For those that might be looking at this for help here's what I missed:

These are both Sub's that should be created as a Module - both in the same module. I am just comparing worksheets within the Active Worksheet so just removed:

' compare two different worksheets in two different workbooks
CompareWorksheets ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Sheet1"), _

I was then able to run this from Macro's. All sorted.

Apologies again

I have a similar problem as the previous posting but my problem is with Excel not Word. When trying to open any Excel file I receive the message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program." The only way I can access an Excel file is to open "All Programs," choose "Microsoft Office" folder, choose "Microsoft Office Excel 2007" icon, choose "Open" folder, and double click on desired file.

My computer is a three month old custom unit built with Windows 7 Professional. I am using Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. There have been no problems until this week.

Thanks for any help,

I am trying to pull a dashboard view from a "Tracker". Given below is the formula that I used:

=COUNTIFS('KT Tracker'!$T$2:$T$138,$C$2,'Tracker'!$U$2:$U$138,"<="&TODAY()+7,'Tracker'!$L$2:$L$138,'Monthly Dashboard'!$B17,'Tracker'!$AF$2:$AF$138,'Monthly Dashboard'!$A$13,'Tracker'!$AD$2:$AD$138,"<>Cancelled")

This perfectly works fine in my laptop that has excel 2013 but when I email this to my team who have Excel 2010, they only see zeros. We have checked all options like enabling Automatic Calulcation of Formula, removing all named ranges in the sheet etc., but it is just not working.

Can you please help ? This is a bit urgent and I need to present this for a meeting tomorrow.
Appreciate your help and thanks in advance !!!

I had the same problem which can be found in this thread:

I have also solved it in the same way (Renaming my personal.xlsb file to personal.xlsa)

What wasn't discovered in the last thread is *why* this works. Any ideas?

My personal file has been starting up fine for years now. And the macros have run nearly every day. What could have caused this sudden change?

A:Excel Personal.XLSB does not open on starting up excel

I would guess that since .xlsa is not a recognized file type - and specifically is not .xlsb (which is a recognized file type) or .xlsm (also recognized and this was tried by the person in your link), 2007 treats .xlsa as simply .xls and loads it. This is merely a guess, however, but if it is true, it raises some interesting questions about security....

Hi can anybody tell me hoe to copy macros from excel 2003 to excel 2007?
The excel 2003 is running under windows xp and the 2007 under windows vista.
(The two versions of excel are installed at differnt computers)

A:Copy Macros From Excel 2003 To Excel 2007

I don't know Excel 2007 nor Vista.
But the usual way to copy macros brute force would be to open the VBA toolbar, get into the Modules, select each, and Export one by one. Then import into 2007 modules if Excel 2007 VBA permits that.
If export/import doesn't work, you can always copy out the entire text into Notepad text files, and copy/paste from the Notepad into your 2007 Excel.
If the VBA language or object model has changed between 2000 or 2003 and 2007, then some tweaking might be in order, but I suspect they left it alone, and the error messages, if any, might suggest what to fix.

Since these are different computers, either network them and share some common directory, or use USB flash drive for transfers of the, say, Notepad files.

Export is good, because it names the modules. They get saved someplace in your local settings. Notepad will not name, and doesn't matter really.

I have emailed spreadsheets created in Office 2003 to other staff members running Office 2007. They can open the attachment, work on the spreadsheet, save and close them. However, if they go back to the document later, it can't be seen. I say that deliberately; if you try to click on the document to open it, you will get the "can't open it it's already open" message. So it's there, somewhere, but nobody can see it.

I downloaded the compatibility patch from Microsoft, but no help.

What is up with this? Leave it to Microsoft to create a new program that instantly renders your old software obsolete.

Hi All,

Just came across a wierd problem, part of my job consists of copying data from our reports website. This normally a very simple processs, just cut and paste into excel(2003). But recently I've had a new section added to the reports website which format wise is exactly the same as previous ones. The problem is when I go to copy and paste into excel, it copies all of the data into one cell, instead of spreading it across the appropriate number of rows and columns.

I know this sound confusing but anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

Due to the sensitve nature of the data I cannot re-create an example.

A macro I wrote in VBA for Excel 2004 won't run in Excel 2011 (alas...). Upon opening the spreadsheet an "on open" routine runs, and bombs out on the following command:
Set cmdbar = Application.CommandBars.Add _
(Name:="Sort", _
Position:=msoBarTop, _
MenuBar:=False, _
temporary:=True) 'msobartop docks the menu at the top

Does anyone know if the VBA structure ("CommandBars.Add") has been removed or altered?

Is there another way to accomplish the same thing in 2011? I want to create a custom command bar (I populate it later in the module).

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with the Xerox Workcentre 7120 and Excel 2010. I simply cannot print Excel files whatsoever. It tells me that the document has been sent to the printer, yet two minutes later it tells me that the print job has failed - no reason given, it just says in the Completed Jobs tab that it was cancelled. When looking at the Completed Jobs tab on the printer itself, it tells me that it was "Completed-Error" - basically meaning that nothing happened. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

I've tried many fixes, including restarting the PC, restarting the printer, restarting the print spooler, reinstalling Office 2010 completely, installing another driver for the printer, running a repair on Microsoft Office 2010, reinstalling the printer completely (it's a network printer) and dancing around the PC in complete frustration whilst chanting (the last one helps a lot, strangely enough).

The weirdest thing is that it's just an issue with Excel - Word, Office and other Office programs print fine with this specific printer. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried printing to another printer in another part of the office, and that works perfectly fine. It's just a hassle having to go through multiple doors and parts of the office to retrieve a simple document.
