Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

Q: Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

I have 6 months trial license all of them. Which one do you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Heyye.

A: Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

In terms of UI, all 3 are user friendly.

Have a look here for Avast and Bitdefender info:

Now! ESET has just released their newest security suite: ESET Smart Security 9 (2016 Edition). These products are on the top of security suites which are produced by giants on security companies. Most of them released 2016 editions of their products. I want to compare on their newest products with new features (such as on ESET: Banking Protection, Bitdefender: Ransomware Protection and new Firewall, etc...) and some enhanced features.

And now, which is your choose for your security? Please let me know your opinion!

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

I've tried many free antivirus over the years, but these two have always consistently been the ones I liked the most.

After some issues with Windows 10 last year, I had to briefly switch to Avira but after the issues were fixed I got back to Avast because it was the one I had learned to rely upon in the last few years. However, I'm open to reassess my position between these two excellent products. Something that has also spurred me to reassess the situation was the fact that LifeHacker has recently changed their recommendation from Avast to Avira as the "The Best (Free) Antivirus App for Windows".

On one hand Avast offers a more complete feature set:

File System Shield
Web Shield
Mail Shield
Behavior Blocker (DeepScreen)

Still, I disable the E-mail blocker because I solely use Web mail. I also disable the Web shield because:

It seems to slightly slow down my browsing
I don't like to have all my HTTP traffic analyzed by the AV or any other program
Sometimes it doesn't play well with HTTPS because it internally to scan the encrypted traffic which changes the original website's certificate (I know I can selectively disable the Web Shield for HTTPS only)

So, in practice, I have been using the File System Shield and the Behavior Blocker at default sensitivity settings (no Hardened Mode) to avoid too many False Positives and issues with less known software. I've had no problems with this set up for a long time.

Regarding Avira, it lac... Read more

A:Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 vs Avast! Internet Security 2016

If you have the money to purchase it, I would strongly recommend Kaspersky Internet Security 2016.
Overall, Kaspersky might not be as user friendly (many alerts when properly configured) and as light as Avast (Kaspersky always was a little hoggy, although that has been mostly fixed in the recent versions), however the security components of KIS are much more mature and powerful (when properly configured) than those of AIS.

In conclusions, if you have capable computer hardware and you don't mind a little bit of configuration and quite a few alerts, I would definitely recommend KIS.
If you believe that KIS might be too heavy for your system, and that you do not really visit suspicious sites and download suspicious applications, then I'd recommend AIS.

A:ESS 9 or Bitdefender IS 2016

I choose Bitdefender because it has strong signatures and zero day protections. Unlike ESET, its signature is really good and it between Avira and Bitdefender level, but its zero day protections is somewhere not really strong like Kaspersky or Bitdefender.

When you set autopilot on in Bitdefender 2016 products does it change your user settings?

A:Bitdefender 2016 question

While on Autopilot, Bitdefender applies an optimal security configuration and takes all security-related decisions for you. This means you will see no pop-ups, no alerts and you will not have to configure any settings whatsoever.

In Autopilot mode, Bitdefender automatically fixes critical issues, enables and quietly manages:
Antivirus protection, provided by on-access scanning and continuous scanning.
Firewall protection.
Privacy protection, provided by antiphishing and antimalware filtering for your web browsing.
Automatic updates.

source: What is Autopilot mode?

I think that autopilot "adjust" some settings for better protection without user intervention.

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load. Restoring again today "fixed" it. Now it wants to update again, so I will disable updates until the problem is fixed. I don't know which particular "patch" is causing the problem; there were about 22 of them that installed.

Hi,

I'm new here. Wish to seek for advice.

Recently purchased an ultrabook; ASUS UX305 (Core-M, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Win10)

I'm having issue of not resource usage. I installed the Bitdefender AV and realised it sucked up the RAM close to 350MB and I'm having close to 45% RAM usage in total. I'm a heavy browser user.

I wonder if there is any alternative to lessen my problem?

I heard Webroot is good for that? What should I pair with? Voodoo Shield or Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit?

Any suggestion would be good.

Thanks!

A:Alternative to Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2016

I recommend ESET, Kaspersky or Avast.

I understand that the intrusion detection isn't helping much on 64 bit systems?
If so, would spyshelter free be a good complement?

A:Bitdefender 2016 Intrusion Detection x64

It's kinda weird, I've heard from several people on Malwaretips even on max settings it doesn't work, so why implement it? Spyshelter is very good, not too sure whether it can replace (or is) a full HIP's i.e., Comodo. Very good question, the AV industry needs to answer and see if they can come together to better secure a 64 bit OS.

On two separate systems (so far) today, Panda Cloud Free Antivirus has automatically pushed its 2016 update (to version 16.0.2, from the 15.0.4 that I was still happily using).
I was hoping to keep the 2015 version around as long as possible, due to allegations that 2016 has a problem with restoring files from quarantine to the proper/original folders from which they came.   Now that the update has been pushed out, we'll see what happens.

A:Panda pushing 2016 update

Interesting!
My Win 7/x64 Panda Free version is still 15.1.0. I see nowhere in the settings to allow or block automatic updating of the AV engine.
My Win 10 Panda Free version is 16.1.0, which I believe is the version I recently installed.

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

Hafif Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 vs Bitdefender Internet Security 2016?

Sistemi: Windows 10, 64 Bit, ?ntel.

A:Bitdefender vs Kaspersky (2016). System Impact?

It is not clear-cut answer.

Bitdefender adds less to system reboot. Kaspersky much longer reboot.

Bitdefender uses about 200 to 300 MB RAM.

Bitdefender requires more advanced IT knowledge to solve problems when it issues occur.

Kaspersky has much better protections - much. Bitdefender needs supplement like NVT ERP because it is weak against some malicious scripts.

Bitdefender is good for laptop; has low battery mode.

Kaspersky is good for desktop and probably the best IS suite for family.

Ransomware Protection ? is a new module included in all Bitdefender 2016 classic line products (Antivirus Plus, Internet Security and Total Security) and it is designed to protect certain folders from ransomware malware that infects client?s PC?s, encrypts personal files, making them unusable and demand money in exchange.

Ransomware malware - is a malicious software that attacks vulnerable systems by locking them, and asks for money to let the user take back the control of his system. The malicious software displays false messages to panic the user, urging him to proceed with the asked payment.

Ransomware can have one of the following behaviors:

Encrypts sensitive and personal files without giving the possibility of decryption until a ransom is paid by the victim.

Locks the computer?s screen and displays a message asking for money. In this case, no file is encrypted, only the user is forced to proceed with the payment.

Blocks applications from running.

Using the latest technology, Bitdefender Ransomware Protection ensures system integrity by protecting critical system areas against damages without impacting the system.

Boot time Protection
Given the fact that many malware applications are set to run at system start-up, Boot time protection scans all critical system areas before all files are being loaded, with zero impact on the system. At the same time, protection is provided from certain attacks that rely on malware code execution, code injections ... Read more

I am deciding bewtween Panda Free 2016 and 360 Total Security. I know 360 has really good protections but have also heard that they tend to quarantine Windows system files. I do not know much about Panda except that it is heavily reliant on cloud, which is fine and they do decent in independent testing. A Sweet Suite
Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 has everything you'd want in a suite, and more. Its antivirus gets stellar scores in our tests and lab tests, and its antispam beat out all competitors for accuracy. The firewall doesn't attempt fancy exploit blocking, but it's tough and hassle-free. Add features like ransomware protection, password management, and secure browsing, and you've got a suite with power to spare.

Along with Kaspersky Internet Security (2016), Bitdefender is a security suite Editors' Choice. If you keep your software and OS updated - and aren't a high-risk user, then the probability of an exploit is low - something like less than 2 % according to industry data. Therefore, anti-exploit protection isn't needed - statistically - for the vast majority of users.

If you want layered protection, then anti-exploit is one of the basic layers.

My attitude towards exploits that they are very unlikely - yet still possible (true 0-Day). Therefore, I run all commonly exploited programs - browsers, Adobe products, office suites, archivers, etc - with limited file system and registry access rights using AppGuard. AppGuard will not prevent an exploit, but it will block the post-exploit actions. I have seen it stop a nasty exploit payload from altering the system.Click to expand...

I've been doing this w/o incident on 3 machines for years. However BD tech support gives me a hard time about it on those occasions when I've needed to call them; and I'm aware that one isn't supposed to use 2 antivirus solutions. But MBAM isn't an antivirus...right? I'm very happy with both these programs and they seem to play nice together, but I don't want to crash my computer. Thanks

A:OK to run Bitdefender Total Security 2016 and Malwarebytes concurrently?

xoxx:

to Bleeping Computer.  I run Bitdefender 2016 Total Security, plus MBAM Premium (which is not an anti-virus, as you stated) and MBAE Premium.  I have exceptions configured in BDTS 2016 as suggested by Malwarebytes.

I have not had any issues whatsoever.  I visit the BD and MBAM Forums daily and have not seen any reports of BD not playing nicely with MBAM, particularly when the exceptions are configured.

Hope this helps.  Have a great day.

A:Avast 2016

Well, having lots of time on my hands New Year's Eve, I'm gonna go ahead and install avast 2016 on one of my older XP systems.
First, I backed-up all my customized settings:  Avast / Settings / General / Back Up Settings.
I downloaded avast 11.1.2245 (153.73 MB) from http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/avast_free_edition.html

As always, be sure to watch out for, and UNcheck, the pre-checked offers to install Google Chrome and make it your default browser.
I clicked on Customize, to perform a CUSTOM installation.   I was presented with a list of the various modules avast had available:

On this system, I decided NOT to accept Secure Line, Cleanup, and Passwords.   NOTE:   Since this system was XP, it did NOT offer me NG/Vitual Machine technology (which, if offered, I would have rejected as well).
I then allowed the installation to proceed.  There was a popup from WinPatrol about a Run-Once program (Avast Emergency Updater) that would run upon reboot... but that was it:   no formal request for a reboot.   The old 2015 program/interface was still there and running.   But in Control Panel, under Add/Remove Programs, it indicated I had Avast 2016.   So I decided it was time to reboot, and see what happens...
Sure enough, avast 2016 was now installed/running.   Surprisingly, it appeared to have kept all my customized settings from 2015.   Regardless, I decided to IMPORT/... Read more

The Good
It's available for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices. The interface blends well with the Windows 10 look and its options are easy to find. Any module can be disabled and tiles can be removed from the console.

The parental control and firewall components worked smoothly in our tests. The data shield immediately reacted when unknown programs tried to access the protected folders.

It has a comprehensive help manual that explains most parts of the program.

The Bad
As previously mentioned, Panda shows a notification message for the data shield module whenever an unknown application tries to access the protected directories, and it asks you what to do: allow or deny. However, although it doesn't inform you of this, it remembers the choice you make for that process, adds it to the permissions list, and sets its permission type. This means that it will automatically allow or deny access to that program whenever it tries to access the protected folders, until you go to the console panel to revert settings. In other words, Panda doesn't implement two options in the tray message for allowing/denying access only once and always.
The application control module worked well in our tests when denying access to programs that were on the list. However, it didn't prompt us for action whenever an unknown application tried to run, and it didn't deny access when we asked it to do this automatically, except in one case: when we tried opening Panda's vi... Effective Malware Blocking
Panda scored very well in my hands-on malware blocking test. When I opened a folder containing my current malware sample collection, it didn't do anything immediately. That's because Panda waits for a significant event like file creation or modification; it doesn't scan just because a process accessed the file. When I copies the collection to another folder, Panda got to work, quickly wiping out 86 percent of the samples.

It also caught some of the remaining samples when I launched them. Overall, it detected 89 percent of the samples and earned 8.8 points, the same as Kaspersky. Among products tested with this same collection, Trend Micro has the best scores, with 93 percent detection and 9.1 points.

Results from tests with my previous malware collection aren't directly comparable, of course, but you have to appreciate what Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus (2015) did with that bunch. It detected 100 percent of the samples and earned a perfect 10 points.

My malicious URL blocking test doesn't rely on a pre-set collection of samples. Rather, I take the very newest list of malicious URLs supplied by MRG-Effitas and attempt to download real-world malware samples. The antivirus gets credit for blocking access to the URL or for wiping out the file during or immediately after the download. I keep at this test until I have results for 100 very new malicious URLs.

As I proceeded with the test, Panda's stats stayed remarkably... Read more

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 VS Norton Security 2016

In my opinion, Norton gives you a better protection. He has SONAR( Behavior protection), very good feature.
Fsecure uses Bitdefender engine but isn't the best AV according AV Comparatives.
Norton is light, has strong firewall, good signatures and cloud reputation + Sonar protection for zero-day threats.

Hi everyone,

Recently i have installed Bitdefender Total Security 2016, And noticed that internet browsing became very slow!, Like any page that used to "fully" load instantly or in 2 seconds, Now it would take about 15 seconds or more!, Also i noticed that the time windows take in the "Welcome" screen got way longer!, It used to be about 3 - 5 seconds now its' about 17 seconds, I'm aware that antivirus must have an impact on the performance in general, But not like that.. I googled it and found many people who've been facing the same issue, I tried almost everything mentioned in their topics and still having the same issue. So i was wondering if someone is familiar with that or know a way to fix it.

Things i tried and didn't fix the problem:

- Stopped firewall.
- Changed adapter settings.
- Disabled web protection module.
- Changed Router's DNS/PC DNS.
- Used Bitdefender removal tool/Re-downloaded/Re-installed/Repaired.
- Tried different browsers.
- Did a fresh windows installation!

Notes:
- Download speed is not affected.
- Websites that has SSL/HTTPS connection are slower than the ones who use the regular http/non-secure.

A:Bad/Slow performance after installing Bitdefender Total Security 2016

My small guess would be: SSL scanning is getting in the way. Disabling it might solve your issue.http://www.bitdefender.com/support/what-to-do-when-security-certificates-cannot-be-verified-installed-1090.html

A vulnerability in the Panda 2016 products that allows the execution of code with elevated permissions has been detected in Small Business Protection and Panda 2016 products. The PSEvents.exe process is periodically run with elevated permissions and has dependencies of libraries located both in the default directory as well as in other system libraries. As the USERS group has Write permissions over the folder where the PSEvent.exe process is run and because the system first looks for libraries run by this process in the execution folder, it may be possible to create a malicious library in the execution folder that will replace one of the libraries installed in other folders. Therefore, a user could run malicious code with SYSTEM privileges.

Avast Internet Security 2016 offers a great level of protection on its default settings. However, there are a few settings which you can change to increase even more the protection offered by Avast Internet Security 2016.
This guide should also cover Avast Premium 2016, and some settings should apply to Avast Free 2016.

1. Enable Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP's) detection
A PUP (potentially unwanted program) is a program that may be unwanted, such as spyware, despite the possibility that users consented to download it. This usually includes: toolbars, browser hijackers or adware (ad-supported software)

Open Avast, then click on Settings (gear icon)

In the "General" tab, select "Scan for potentially unwanted software (PUPs)".

2. Enable Avast Hardened Mode
Hardened Mode is designed to make protection tougher without interfering with the computer usage much.
Avast by default checks suspicious files with DeepScreen within virtual environment to see how they behave. But if you use Hardened Mode, it starts to behave a bit differently.

Hardened Mode: Moderate
Under normal conditions, if Avast decides that some file is too suspicious by various characteristics, it then throws it into the DeepScren for further scanning. But if Moderate Hardened Mode is enabled, Avast automatically blocks files that are detected as suspicious by preliminary analysis.
In most cases DeepScreen checks the file and if it doesn't... Read more

Just threw this article together, I want all the brain's in this forum to chip in and if there is anything missing from this article (at all!) let me know ASAP, in this thread.

Previously we wrote a long post about Best Laptops for Hackers, which included a run-down on the best laptops for programming and penetration testing (pen-testing). This article turned out to be very popular even though it wasn't exactly intended to be that, now we are proud to finally publish the long-requested article of 'Best Laptops for Video Game System Emulation'.

The idea of this post is to give an accurate summary of which laptops are suited for, or adept at emulating various consoles and their games, and which ones also can easily perform these duties, at the lowest possible cost.

Now obviously, the better hardware you have the better your system will be at emulating other hardware/software. That doesn't necessarily mean a more expensive laptop. Where the demands of hacking and pen-testing demand vital and significant internal storage, the prerequisites for game emulation are generally just a good graphics processor, and good RAM/CPU.

Your laptop should also be in good working order and not muddled with high-risk pirated downloads and large bits of video. To emulate efficiently, you should also have as little processes and programs running in order for the emulator to run smoothly.

These are all common sense tips but...

Avast and SecureAPlus have been fairly interesting for me. Both seem to have great scanning and protection. Which would you choose?
NOTE: I have heard that SecureAPlus may have a really slow scan in the beginning. If that something you don't like that fine, Avast has a slow scan as well so I am not counting against either one.

Thread Approved. Here are the official websites:

Avast Free Antivirus: Avast | Download Free Antivirus for PC, Mac & Android
SecureAPlus: Free Cloud Antivirus & Application Control for PC - SecureAPlus
@J Gamez065 If all factors are to be considered, why is the initial slow scanning ignored?

Source: V2016 Beta is HERE! (2016.11.1.2234)

Hi all,

I am excited to announce the release of first beta V2016: AVAST 2016 B1 (build number 2016.11.1.2234).

Compared to the last "boring" beta releases, this is again pure beta with bugs so feel free to report them back via forum or new feedback form in the program.
We also welcome any feedback on the new features and changes, of course.
Changes:

NEW: Passwords - Avast can now manage your passwords and generate strong passwords for you. Just one password to remember.
- checks your passwords security
- stores your passwords securely
- includes browser extensions for easier logging in and form filling
- generates strong passwords

NEW: SafeZone browser - Replaced the SafeZone for safer shopping and banking

- Pay Mode: runs automatically on banking sites (This isolates the session and protects it from possible keyloggers or other malicious software secretly lurking on your computer. With Pay Mode you can perform all your financial transactions in peace, without fear of your password or other personal details being stolen. Pay Mode can be also turned on manually directly via browser UI.)

- Ad Blocker:The browser comes with built-in Ad Blocker that blocks all those annoying online ads and banners

- Video Downloader: Another cool feature is built-in Video Downloader that allows you to download online videos and store them to your hard drive. Now we support just limited amount of sites (youtube, vimeo, strea... Read more

I have recently bought a new laptop and I installed norton security standard version no backup
And yesterday I got a new license from the avast giveaway that was posted here on MT
I like how little impact has norton on my system but I don't know if it is good enough for detecting PUP and PUA, and this system might not be always connected to the internet (around 80% of the time),
so do you guys think that avast is a better solution or should I keep norton

A:Avast internet security 2016 vs Norton security standard

I vote for Norton.
If you change SONAR to agressive you will have better protection against zero-day threats even offline.( despite Sonar requires on-line connection for better heuristic real-time protection. )
Norton is lighter, Its improved performace and, I think if you are 80%of the time not connectec to internet, norton gives you a very good layer of protection

I want to buy KIS 16 key but I still have BitDefender. Whats you experience with those two Anitivirus?
1 more question, if someone knows, can I activate KIS 16 with KIS 15 unactivated key?
Thanks everyone, this is very important to me

A:Bitdefender Internet Security 2015 vs Kaspersky Internet Security 2016

I'm a KIS 2016 user and I find it much lighter on system resources compared to the 2015 version. Yes, a KIS 15 key can activate up to KIS 18. I've stocked up on KIS 2015 keys. I brought like for 3 for 27.

With regards to how it compares to Bitdefender? Sorry I cannot comment as I've never used Bitdefender.

Sophos Home Free Antivirus vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016. Which one do you pick and why?

A:Sophos Home Free Antivirus vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

I have to say that I haven't tried Sophos until now. But my opinion about Panda goes like this.

Resource Usage (eg: CPU, RAM)?Panda is efficient in both of them, but during scans it may use more CPU resources

Real World System Impact?Quiet Low

User Friendliness? 5/5

User Interface? 5/5

Level of Protection and Features (eg: Antivirus , Firewall, Behavior Blocker)?4/5
Overall Winner? Since i haven't tried Sophos I cannot give verdict for the best between the two.

Thankyou And Happy New Year.

Installed Office 365 several days ago just for (temporarily) OL 2016.

2 email accounts: Outlook.com and a Kerio Connect (a multi platform exchange type account) installed as IMAP for our domain name.

The Kerio account is the default.

My wife came upstairs last evening and said she issued an email from the Kerio account and the email appeared in the Outlook.com sent box. I said 'no way' and looked for myself.

The email in the the Outlook.com sent box clearly said 'from' the Kerio account.

I sent a test email myself from the Kerio account (it clearly said 'sending from 'KOC' at the top) and darn if it didn't also appear in the Outlook.com sent account.

I bet a nickel no one here has had this experience or has a clue as to why!

Mark

I have a laptop (it's 5 years old and will need to be replaced soon (I am waiting for Wifi 802.11ac and the newer/improved Intel chips to be released), plus I am a broke college student, so I want to run it until it breaks, battery is failing as well). I know that these factors will affect it.

System Specs:
-Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
-4GB RAM
-AMD Turion II P 540 Dual-Core Procesor (2.4 Ghz)
-AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4150 Graphics Card
-750GB WD HDD 5400 RPM

Goals:

-Performance: Laptop tends to get really hot, Good battery life (doesn't use too much power)
-Protection: I am on a university Wi-Fi w/ 5000+ other people (and some definitely don't use the best security practices. I have been hit w/ port scans before).
-Vendor Reliability (issuing patches, securing their software when vulnerabilities are discovered, not ruehing out releases w/o going through QA)
-Good Customer Support (ESET's Support is awesome if you haven't experienced it). Kaspersky offers good protection, but customer support is IMHO awful (no offense).
-Privacy

-It will be running side-by-side with HitManPro.Alert, and RollbackRx Professional. Sticky Password and Heimdal Pro

Other software: Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium 13, Office 2013/2016

The software(s) will be transferred to a new PC when I can afford it.
Thank you all in advance, it is much appreciated!!!
