Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 - unable to recover from a kernel exception

Q: Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 - unable to recover from a kernel exception

For the past couple of weeks I have been receiving a crash on and off, mostly while browsing, my screen will go black and then come back on a short time later with the error "Nvidia Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered"

From a bit of searching and past experiences, I have found that this is apparently a long lasting problem that few people have been able to fix, most people seem to say it is an Nvidia driver issue, because of this I didn't think much of it.

However today while playing multiple games, I have received another crash I haven't received before:
My screen goes black for a bit, before coming back on and then displaying the crash shown, followed by an error to say that the game I was playing at the time has stopped working.

Today Is the first time I have seen this crash, but the crash has occurred at least 4 times today.

As mentioned I wasn't too worried about the first crash I was receiving but after receiving this new crash today (unable to recover from a kernel exception) I am a bit more worried that maybe my GPU is starting to fail.

I am currently running the latest Nvidia drivers for my GPU and running Windows 10 64-bit, any help on what may be causing these crashes or any tests I could do to help get to the bottom of what may be causing these crashes would be greatly appreciated.

Im not the best at GPU troubleshooting so even with a program I don't know what to look for other than temperature.

thanks in advance,

I'm experiencing this when running different Adobe applications and sometimes just randomly it will occur. I've seen this problem posted by many on the web and haven't found a successful solution for me. I've rolled back my driver to the earlier 347.88 version because some were saying that fixed the problem for them, but I'm still experiencing the display driver "crash".

I haven't ever seen this before and I've had my NVIDIA 760 for a couple years now but I recently upgraded my MoBo to the new MSI Z170A. Then it started immediately. From here I'm not real sure how to troubleshoot the issue. I've also seen some suggesting that it may be a problem with my power supply, but I never ran into any issues before.

These are the 2 entries I find in the system log:

"Unable to recover from a kernel exception. The application must close."

"The NVIDIA OpenGL driver detected a problem with the display
driver and is unable to continue. The application must close."

System Specs:
Windows 7 Pro, 64

I7 6700 4.0GHZ
500 GB Samsun SSD - OS drive
NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX760

Did you clean install windows when you swapped boards?

Next the cx line from corsair is not intended for any type of stressful use. It is for a basic build ONLY. Even corsair says it is only for a basic build;
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/power-supply-units/cx-series

Since you have a marginal pw supply [for use with a high end video card] Have you checked your voltages; specifically the 12V, 5V, and 3.3V values? If not, do so.
I never use msi boards so I am not sure if any monitoring software is available on the support page. If there is, download and install the monitoring software. Post the voltages here.

Hello, and thanks for viewing this thread. A few days ago, Windows XP (Home) started giving me trouble when I booted my computer. Sometimes, it would just hang forever on the launch screen, and sometimes, it would briefly flash a "Kernel Mode Exception Not Handled" blue screen before instantly restarting the computer. I was able to successfully boot into Windows a few times, but about 20 minutes later the screen would become scrambled suddenly and the computer would inevitably lock up.

I researched this issue some and found it to be related to driver errors. I piddled around in safe mode for a while and tried to figure things out, but I decided it would be easier to just do a fresh install of Windows since I had reformatted a little over a month earlier and had very little to back up. After doing a fresh install, I was reinstalling my drivers, and the same Nvidia display drivers that I've used since I built this computer 3 years ago started causing the same problem I was having before. I booted into safe mode and uninstalled them, and the problem was fixed. Then, I tried installing a newer version of the drivers, and the same problem happened.

Since I bought this computer, this error has never occurred, so I would be grateful if anyone here could shed some light on what might be going on. Thanks in advance!

In view of the above have you now on this new install installed the motherboard drivers - chipset etc and all updates, especially SP3.
re graphics as far as I can see 258.96 is the recommended driver for that card on your system
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-258.96-whql-driver.html
Do you now have a Minidump from the crash AFTER this new install, if so have you examined the dump file and also do you have any warnings in device manager, including on hidden devices.

If necessary - disable restart on failure and post the full Error and parameters.

May find that Who crashed will supply the analysis of the minidump if you have one.
http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed

simply install and click analyse.

Please post the results, of the who crashed analysis as they appear, not in a file that I have to open,.
Finally if you already have the mentioned driver or you install it here are the full rlease notes with all known hiccups.
http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/258.96/258.96_WinXP_Desktop_Release_Notes.pdf
Also I notice that the motherboard includes full testing facilities and stress tests, in the event of no progress with above I would be inclined to run those

Hello everyone! I tried posting this in the graphics card forum, but haven't had any responses so I thought I would try here seeing as how it may be a driver issue.
I've been having an issue with my GPU recently, and I'm at an absolute stand still as to what the issue could be. I'm using a custom build, and here are some of the specs:

Power Supply - Corsair 650TX V2
CPU - Intel i7-3770K
GPU - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 670
Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V
RAM - 16GB G.Skill DDR3 1600

Now here is my issue.
Whenever I try to launch certain programs and games such as BF 3/4, Dead Space 3, Photoshop CS6, and Sony Vegas 12, they will attempt to start, freeze, and then my display on both monitors will go black for two seconds and return to normal. I'm then greeted by a friendly little message in the corner that says:
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version (whatever driver version I have at the time) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

This is frustrating not being able to use these programs which I used to use on a daily basis, and play many many games. I posted about it several times on the NVIDIA forums, and have been unable to find an answer to my problem. But after doing a little (LOT) of research, I came to the conclusion that it could be one of two things.
1) It has something to do with "graphics hardware acceleration"
2) My GPU isn't getting enough power.

Finally, after doing ... Read more

one is equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS and the other with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.

I found on notebookcheck that the 9400m is ranked higher than the 9300m, but the 9400 is an integrated card, and that the 9300m has dedicated memory! i am confused because i always believed that a dedicated card will be better than integrated so i am very confused!!!

please comment if you can clear this up for me! thanks much

I'm not a gamer, but rather an enthusiastic net surfer and would like my present graphics card to be as fast as easily possible. To do this, it has been suggested that I update my card's driver with downloading/installing Nvidia's latest driver (285.62 WHQL, Win7 64-bit...4G RAM, Firefox 9). Would this be the the right thing to do?

O... Here's my dillema.   My HP NVIDIA card (HP p/n 466762-001 rev:M03) in my HP Model: 9520f Windows 7 Ultimate machine failed.   I replaced it with an ASUS NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT card (p/n 5188-8004, asus p/n C403H) that came from a spare HP Pavillion Model a6150y Vista machine I had on hand. The initial VID/Graphics card failure and susequent replacement caused much havock with Windows and some other stuff (ie, not booting/loading Windows etc...) and after much effort I was able to get everything loading & working reasonable well again.   But the problem I'm still having is with the old drivers (removing them and all their remnants) and loading the new drivers for the ASUS NVIDIA card that is now in my machine.  I've tried normal uninstalls as well as the GURU 3D.com DDU uninstall.  I think (and it appeares) that all the old NVIDIA drvers and other software has been uninstalled because I can not find any of it in the normal locations.   But I am still unable to install the NVIDIA 8500GT drivers for the ASUS card from the NVIDIA site or even the NVIDIA drivers/software updates that Windows Update has detected and suggested in Windows updates.  The insalls start out fine but soon fail to complete. Evidently I (and my brother who was in my machine remotely for a good 6 hours because he is an IT/Computer tech and is ten times more knowledgable than I on this) are missing something very... Hi all,
I have a XPS 8300 from 2011.
My son wanted to upgrade his GPU (he has a Erazer 310 (www.inet.se/.../lenovo-erazer-x310-gtx-750) which has a Nvidia GTX 750 Ti like this one (www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-750-Ti-Desktop-Graphics-Card.126721.0.html)
So I thought it was the perfect time to take his 750 Ti and upgrade both PC's at the same time.
I took my GPU out of the XPS 8300 and inserted the 750 TI. Nothing happened. The PC did not recognize the card.
Then I started to read all types of discussions, problems, adventures and what not, about this PC and a GPU upgrade. Man, I was about to do a BIOS flashing without even knowing what that meant...I have to admit that it has been 2 very interesting days and I have learnt a lot and then...
Then I found the simpliest video with the simplest explanation on how to do proceed. I tried it and completely succeeded in about 15 minutes (plus 10 minutes of downloading a driver).
So, here is the link to the video. The video is in Spanish but these are the SO LOGICAL steps (www.youtube.com/watch):
I added two steps on my own and then followed the video:
1. My step: Turn on the PC and unistall the stock GPU (from the device manager)
2. Turn of the computer.
The video explanation starts in second 50:
3.Disconnect the power (for security reasons).
4. Open the case and extract the GPU you currently have (he does not show this in the video)
5. Check that at least you have 300 W. The XPS 8300 has a 460 W power supply so... Read more

Hello Overson, welcome to the forum

Windows update does not necessarily install the newest drivers . If you are having no problems with the driver 266.58 then I would stay with that one

I have an older machine I use for backup (Dell OptiPlex 745) fairly well appointed, with an on-the-motherboard graphics adapter (Intel, I think) running one monitor and a plug-in nVidia based adapter, running two monitors. I was running Linux on it until January 2015, when I joined the Windows Insider Program and installed Win 10. At first the two nVidia-driven monitors would not work at all, but in a few months they started working after an update download from Microsoft (I was a "fast track" Insider). All was well until February 2016, when both nVidia monitors quit working and my WiFi card went dead. I tried a number of things, but no no avail. I got the nVidia-based monitors when I directly downloaded a driver from the manufacturer, but after that, when the first Microsoft update was downloaded, the nVidia-driven screens went blank. I really need three monitors for the work I do. I tried all sorts of things, including a hard disk wipe and complete reload of Win 10. No success. I just ran out of time to experiment with it after a few weeks.

I'm now very concerned about my main machine. It's an older custom-built machine with an Intel Core2 Q6600 processor and two graphics cards: a GeForce 8800GT and GeForce 9500GT, driving four monitors. I really can't screw up on my Win 7 to 10 upgrade and loose this machine because of bad device drives forced on me by Microsoft.

QUESTION: Does anyone have success with the 8800GT and/or 9500GT?

Hi, Im thinking about buying a new graphic card and found a card i liked named ASUS GeForce 9400 GT. On the website where they sell it its located under the tab Nvidia, yet if I check out Nvidias prducts page their 9400 GT looks completely different from this one. Then I check out ASUS page and there I find it. So what's the difference between ASUS and Nvidia, why do their cards have the same name, and why does the website im buying it from put the ASUS card under Nvidia products????

A:Difference between ASUS GeForce and Nvidia GeForce???

Nvidia designs and makes the GeForce line of graphics chips. Other manufacturers such as Asus, evga, BFX, PNY and others then use the Nvidia chips in their graphics card designs.

Do you have Folder Lock installed on your system?
WinDrvNT.sys is a file from FOLDER LOCK that may be causing the system crashes.

Uninstall folder lock and reboot. Folder Lock creates a file called windrvnt.sys, which can cause your computer to crash repeatedly when it conflicts with other software.
Lets see if your BSOD stops after uninstalling Folder Lock.

Hi, I recently installed Windows XP on a home-built computer (all parts are less than two or so weeks old) after frustration with being unfamiliar with Windows 7 and eventually Ubuntu. So, I went back to the basics with XP and am now facing the following BSODs:
-PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
-KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I'll include both zipped minidump files. I'm running on the following:
-Fresh install of Windows XP Professional 32-bit Service Pack 3
-Intel Core i3-2100 @3.1GHz CPU
-Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM Rev3.0 Motherboard
-Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 6Gb/s SATA HDD
-Antec Earthwatts 500W 80+Bronze PSU

As stated, I've only had XP running on this machine for the past 2 days or so (Windows 7 kept spewing out BSODs that didn't seem to come from any singular place, and Ubuntu - even though I didn't get any kernel panics - was just too much of a learning curve for me) so I used to Killdisc to wipe my HDD, Formatted my partition (500Gb of 1000Gb) and installed XP on it.

The "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" BSOD happened whilst browsing the internet on Google Chrome using the Google Search Engine. The "KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" BSOD happened within the first 30 seconds or so of loading a video game.

I've attempted to download the most up-to-date dravers via Intel and Asus and was told this is most likely either a hardware or driver problem?

Thanks for any and all replies!

PS- Initially I thought the problem lied in memory of one k... Read more

Hello,

I am thinking of getting a new graphics card for x-mas. I currently have a Geforce 8600 GT and i was looking at this GT 220.

Which is better? i think the 220 is but i just wanted some expert confirmation.

GT 220: http://www.siliconmadness.com/2009/07/nvidia-geforce-g-210-and-gt-220.html (scroll down past the 210)

8600 GT: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600.html (The right Column)

A:NVIDIA GT 220 VS Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

Why bother? If you want to upgrade from an 8600GT - you need to buy a card that has a noticable difference.

For example... the 9500/9400GTs are also pretty much re-badged 8600s. Think of the 220 as a smaller and cheaper to make version of the 8600GT with blu-ray decoding abilities. Its more like a bit better version of the 8600GTs.... that costs $65~95.

An ATI 4670 is about $60~95. Heres a nice one at $80: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161287&cm_re=4670-_-14-161-287-_-Product

But for real big speed bumps - look at ATI 4800s/5700s or at least a GTX 260... or even the GT250 (which is a 9800GT which is a 8800GT - UGH! )
These cards are about $ 120~200.

Your power supply will also be important too. Do you know your brand and model number?

Also your computers own performance.

i have a acer aspire x3400g. back to factory default settings. all windows updates.

last time i did a restore nvidia told me the current drivers was 15.46whql or something. but now its saying GeForce 8200P / GeForce 8200P-A-AR is the latest motherboard drivers? what is that anyways. i cant get no search on it. somebody help me. i think since i might have the wrong smbus controller for my chipset that my wifi is dropping with my brand new ae2500 adapter from linksys with a 3200 new router also. thanks in advance.

A:GeForce 8200P / GeForce 8200P-A-AR? nvidia auto update is wrong?

nForce is chip-set, GeForce is graphics. I would say that GeForce 8200P / GeForce 8200P-A-AR is refering to your graphics card not your chip-set.

I just got this new computer fixed up and I've had it for about three weeks. It has a quad core and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 graphics card.

I have no way of telling when the thing is going to freeze, it seems to be completely random. When it does freeze however sometimes it'll just last for no more than five seconds, and other times it'll last for five minutes.. just frozen and unresponsive with the same repetitive noise reverberating in my headphones. Sometimes the sound does come through though but it's as if it's slowed down 1000 percent. Also if it lasts long enough the internet on my computer phases out as well.. which seems strange, because it gives me this error if it ends up lasting long enough. I also down graded from win10 to win7 when I first got the machine.. so I'm not sure if that had something to do with the problems I'm having now. My drivers are updated, I've checked several times.

I have a big problem with my samsung rv720-s02nl notebook.
Since I have reinstalled windows 7 I was getting a lot of errors.
When clean install and all the drivers were updated I got random screen freezes. I had to press the power button until the system was powered down.
The message said Nvidia driver stopped responding and has recovered(dutch).
I tried to use the old drivers (straight from the samsung support site) but they also didn't help.

I tried this "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista but that didn't stop the problem, but it resolved the bsods(screen freezes) but i still get error messages about the nvidia driver has stoped working and didn't respond. And still sometimes the computer freezes.

Hopefully you can help me with this.
Sorry for my English, i'm Dutch.

I installed Blue screen viewer and it said the problems were caused by dxgkrnl.sys driver. I searched on google but I found no valuable solutions.

I have used the SF Diagnostic Tool, see my attachment.

Hello whoever reads this call for help.

Since some time I have two reoccuring errors that just wont stop annoying me.

1. From time to time the screens turns black and I get the message that the Nvidia Kernel mode driver 344.65 crashed and was restarted.

This problem occured first. It happens sometimes when I am playing games, but not everytime. Sometimes it even crashes when I am just browsing the internet (less then 5 tabs) and run (as far as I know) no other programs.

Some users seem to have that problem, but the forums of Nvidia seem to remain without attention from the developers site.

2. Nvidias NvOAWrapperCache.exe is apparently not compatible with the 64 bit version of Windows and can't start/ run (so the error message).

This keeps popping up whenever I do something. If I don't close the error text, apparently nothing happens.

I was not able to find a lot about this problem, but finally I found a thread on your forum where fireman4it apparently solved a similar problem. Unfortunatly I was not able to follow his way to solve the problem because FRST64 obviously gave me a different log. But since I am not sure, if this is the right thing for me to do in the first place, I want to ask if someone here could please find the time to try to help me and tell me what I could do.

Whenever I play Skyrim or Fallout 4, my graphics driver crashes and an error shows up saying the kernel has stopped working. This only occurs when playing those 2 games. I play CSGO for 3-4 hours straight and the computer never crashes, but when I play those 2, the computer crashes. The crashes only occur when entering or exiting a building or fast travelling. Sometimes, the game crashes mid game, but very rare.

Updating drivers made it worse as it crashed even more.

Yesterday, I got a BsOD. It was nmi_hardware_failure.

Hello everyone
I recently installed windows 7 ultimate and i have some serious issues with it.
at first when i installed it, and it booted for the first time into windows i got the BSOD everytime, only way i got passed it was to boot up with driver certification disabled. i was finally able to boot into windows 7.
First thing i noticed was that everything responded very slow, if i clicked the start button it took up to 5 seconds for it to respond. still everything acts very slow.
so after a while i got the error "display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver 195.39 stopped responding and has recovered succesfully"
so my screen starts to flicker black, and i get the BSOD once in a while.
I can't run the performance test because my system freezes up.
i tried upgrading/downgrading nvidia drivers, installed direct x disable aero and so on
ive done alot of research on the web but i can't find any solutions to it.

Hi guys. I am planning on upgrading my GTX 555 OEM cause its a little to low end for my taste. The question I have for all the tech-savy people out there is which graphics card should I get? A Geforce GTX 680, 690, or 780? I've heard that the 690 is basically 2 680s running in SLI. If that's true, that means any games that wont work with SLI or don't perform well with SLI, will still have the same problems and I wont be able to do anything about it. So i was wondering which one do you think I should get? I wanna be able to run any next gen games on max settings if not, one below max settings.

Thanks.

mrViXey, welcome to the forums.

The reason you can't find any drivers for that card is that there aren't any, and haven't been any for close to 5 years. Here is a thread from our graphics card section,

HELP driver for geforce 4 mx 440 agp8x

that most had good luck using the 71.90 XP driver, or you can try the last XP driver,

ForceWare Windows XP/2000 32-bit

One thing that won't happen is Aero will not work on that card.

I don't know much about GPUs on PCs, I recently just got a Zotac GT 430 1GB DDR3 and when I go to install it's own drivers from the new March 2012 Nvidia GeForce drivers, it installs this NVIDIA HD Audio drivers and I got no sound since I can't use my Realtek Audio, I have to disable my realtek onboard audio on the BIOS to avoid the system from crashing/freezing, I mostly got freezing. I just need help, I hope someone can tell me how I can install the GT 430's drivers fine and NVIDIA Audio drivers (if I have to) and still use my Realtek Audio without my system having a conflict with NVIDIA and Realtek audio drivers.

What I have been told to fix this (via Steam): use older drivers via from the CD. - But I wanna know what you people here at TechSupportGuy think.

QUESTION:

How do I upgrade this to the latest driver? (sorry, but the question mark, for some reason, shows up as an ?)

I went over to the nvidia website to no avail. Please help.

A:NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 440

paula89, welcome to the Seven Forums.

To answer your question, quite simply you don't. There is not now and never will be a Windows 7 driver for that card, as Nvidia dropped support for it a long time ago. The best you can do is the last XP driver,

ForceWare Windows XP/2000 32-bit

Probably have to use compatibility mode,

Compatibility Mode

to get it to install. It the rest of the computer is of similar vintage as the video card, there is also a good possibility that the video driver won't install due to the lack of a working AGP/GART driver.

hi can forgive me for my dumbness

can anyone explain to me my Graphic Card Specs

Im asking this because i remember buying this graphic card a year ago having 1gb. Im confused because i can't see 1gb on the specs.

A:Nvidia geforce 210

It depends on the card manufacturer. What you have linked to is the page from NVidia which lists the reference specs for a card of that type. Other manufacturers take the reference design and customize/tweak it. The changes that they typically make is to increase the amount of memory (usually by higher-capacity chips or by inserting chips into otherwise empty memory positions on the PCB) and/or pre-overclock the card (make it run faster than reference).

To find the actual specs for your card, you will need to check the card manufacturer's website (Sparkle, PNY, etc.).

Price range is around ?100 ($150)

A:Nvidia Geforce gts 450

Its about the replacement for the old gtx260s. they have 192cores, and are dx11.

Honestly though... you'd be better off with an ATI, as theyre still a better bang for the buck card.

I'd go with an ati 5770, @ about ?110 from Overclockers.co.uk

Saddly, the 450 is looking like a bust, or shoulda been released 10 months ago.

Big question though is will your current parts... more importantly power supply, run it.

So I've installed the correct driver as prescribed by one of the members off the NVidia forums. It comes to a part, half-way into the installation that it freezes and you still get that laggy graphics. Now in device driver it says that "Video Controller" it says that "Drivers for this device is not installed. (Code 28)" And I have a choice to "reinstall driver" which is confusing... also have a few choices to update, rollback and uninstall driver. It's been an issue for the past 3 months, although it has worked once when I attempted to install a game - and mysteriuously enabled me to "enable driver".

Thanks a lot if you can help.

nVidia GeForce GT 240 GDDR3 vs. nVidia GeForce GT 220

I've compared these two online, and i'm still not sure which is better.

i just bought the GT240 and 'Can Your Run It' is saying that i cannot run Supreme Commander 2 but not really telling me why. it also says i cannot run Supreme Commander 1 which runs fine on my system.

so i'm thinking of returning the GT240 and getting the GT220.

your thoughts?
JTN

A:nVidia GeForce GT 240 vs. GT 220

The GT 240 is a better card then the GT 220, hence the higher model number. Neither is a great gaming card though, but the GT 240 is good enough for most games. See a benchmark here with both cards and lasts years mid range card and the previous years near top card, the 8800GT: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gt-240,2475.html

Here are the requirements for Supreme Commander 2: http://www.game-debate.com/news/?ne...2&title=Supreme Commander 2 Full System Specs

Note the CPU recommended, dual core. Your Pentium 4 is going to be the weak link.

P.S. "Can you Run it" isn't perfect.

( Realized I had posted in the wrong section. I apologize. :\ )

Hey, all. Before you go on and give me the normal solutions to this issue, such as hardware monitoring software, overclocking and setting the NVIDIA Driver to High-Performance, I wish to explain my scenario, and that a lot of these solutions did not work out yet. I think this is more of a dying GPU problem.

About a few months ago, I updated the drivers for my NVIDIA 555m following a few low-FPS issues ( About 30 - 20 FPS in recent games ), thinking that a new driver would help fix the hiccups in gameplay ( I have 6 GBs of RAM, an Intel i5 quad-core processor, and a 64-bit Windows 7 ). Needless to say, this fixed the FPS on my games, at least to a manageable speed, so I was happy with the move.

However, after a few days with this update, I started to notice problems. On occasion, the NVIDIA kernel mode driver would stop working, and cause Windows 7 to reset the graphics card driver. At first, I didn't pay attention to it, since it only happened once or twice per day, and nothing else occurred afterwards. However, that was my mistake - By not investigating the issue further, the problem only grew. Soon, the issues started happening frequently, and led to BSODs where Nvlddmkm.sys was the fault, with the computer saying the attempt to restart the service ultimately failed.

I have since been using the internal Intel HD Graphics, which works well on most of my games with max settings, except for games like ... Read more

I am getting this error for a long time now but it only happens with more newer games like : GTA V, heroes and generals and now also with Fallout 4.
I play alot of Counter strike and I have never had this error while playing this.
This is the error I am talking about. NOTE that this is not the same driver I use.

After a certain time my screen goes black, it closes the game I'm playing and its showing the error shown above.

Things I have tried:
Re-installing windows
Updating my graphic drivers
Installing different graphic drivers(with clean install)
Updating my BIOS
Changing settings in the Nvidia configuration window.
Checking the temperature and it does not go above 60C

I've had contact with Nvidia and tried some of the above and now they tell me I should bring my pc to a local shop to get it checked out. But first I want to ask you guys from the forum if any of you might know any solution to try out before I do that.

SPECS:
Windows 7 x64
MSI 2GB GTX660
Intel core i5-4570 2100 1150 BOX
ASUS H87M-E
Coolermaster B600 600w ATX23
Seagate 1TB st1000DM003 7200 SA3
Ram is ripjaw 4x 2GB DDR3

Since I am not making this post at home I cannot make sure what the exact RAM memory is I use because I didnt buy it online.

I am also not able to upload a DXDiag report right now but I will do that when as soon as I get home.

I hope this would be enough information for now and I am looking forward for all your replies!

Hi! Every time I start a game that uses the Nvidia 940m graphics card in my Yoga 700 with Windows 10, the 'Nvidia Windows kernel mode driver' crashes after a while. The fan then is at maximum and the Yoga shuts down shortly thereafter. I already installed the Intel and Nvidia graphic drivers from the Lenovo support website and tried some tricks found on the web (card always at maximum power etc.), but nothing really helps. The solution center doesn't find any problems with the nvidia card. Support says, the problem is known and they are hoping for Windows Redstone and a better nvidia driver... Anyone else here has this problem? And found a solution??Could it help to update the chipset driver and all the other drivers from the support website too? Thanx in advance,DerHuette

Hey,

Since a week i got a new laptop from MSI (model GS70). I already installed some programs like AutoCAD, Office and so on for college. But i also installed a few games like Diablo 3 and Hearthstone.

But for some reason my laptop keep crashing when i'm trying to play hearthstone which is in my opinion not a heavy game to run. So when i try to launch i often notice that the noice is verry weird, the display is flashing and i got a pop-u that says: "Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver has stopped responding and has recovered". Mostly i have to end the task in the task manager. But later today when i tried to launch it my laptop just froze up and moments later i got a BSOD 'dpc watchdog violation' caused by driver NtosKrnl.exe. However the akward thing is that i can run diablo 3 with no problems what so ever. I have not been able to test other games yet, but so far it only happens with Hearthstone.

My Nvidia drivers are up-to-date (355.82). So i'm not sure what the problem here is.

EDIT: Since i found it very strange it only happend in Hearthstone, i also installed Heroes of the storm. At first it worked fine, but once i got in the load screen, the noice was choppy, screen flashes and moments later i got a BSOD.

sincerely

Brent

Hey guys,

I got a new PC yesterday (well, for me it's new) but it has problem with the video card. Windows 10 isn't detecting the Display Driver, which is pretty bad because all my games are lagging because of this. When I start the computer, sometimes (not every time) Windows shows me an error saying "You must update your video BIOS for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 220". I know how to do it with nvflash, but the problem is I need a newer VBIOS with the same Subsystem ID (1462 1911) which I can't find anywhere. I found some in techpowerup.com but they're older than mine. If anyone can give me a newer VBIOS version with the same system number or knows another solution, please reply. But I'm guessing I'll have to buy a new one.

I have come across a similar problem when I update drivers on my nvidia - the screen goes black for a certain amount of time - this usually tells you you're using the wrong version of the drivers in no few words! The monitor sounds like it has a timeout that activates when the driver blanks the screen.

You could try this driver: 64bitdrivers.com: free x64 downloads, no registration, no popups. nVidia forceware 163.69 WHQL for Vista x64 and see if it makes any difference (its WHQL certified)

I know that the 6800-Series cards are pretty warm, but it seems a bit (or somewhat) high for an idle temperature. I presume it's in celsius . Make sure the fan is spinning properly and attatched correctly. Open up the side your your case and blow a fan onto the card. I would suggest that you buy something along the lines of this. I say something along the lines of this because I have not personally used a VGA Cooler on anything that I own, but I searched Newegg (great company if you live in the U.S., tell me if you live elsewhere so we at TechSpot can find the correct website for you ), and I searched for the best reviewed cooler, and that came up ! According to the December 2010 Hardware and Software Survey by popular online game provider Steam, the GeForce 8800 is the most popular GeForce GPU in use today. NVIDIA launched the GeForce 8800 for Windows Vista nearly 3 years ago in support for DirectX 10. The GeForce 8800 GT was one of the most popular GPU upgrades at the time due to the performance/price ratio. The GeForce 8800 GT and its successor the 9800 (which is the second most popular GeForce GPU) have proven to be excellent GPUs. However, today NVIDIA is giving those who have these older GPUs a reason to upgrade: the GeForce GTX 560 Ti. NVIDIA?s own data shows that people tend to upgrade their GPUs every 3 years or so. And we?re just coming up on the 3 year mark since the GeForce 8800 was released so it?s the perfect time for the GTX 560 Ti to make its debut.

The GeForce GTX 560 Ti is a fantastic upgrade from the GeForce 8800 GT. Overall, the GTX 560 Ti shows a 3x performance increase over the GeForce 8800 GT. The GeForce 8800 GT had 512MB of GDDR3 memory, while the GTX 560 Ti has 1GB of GDDR5. The GTX 560 Ti also has an 822MHz graphics clock. The GTX 560 Ti is designed along the same lines as the GTX 570/580 where on a transistor level changes have been made to make it more efficient with power consumption. The basic goal for the new design NVIDIA has chosen with the GTX 500 series GPUs is to have great performance while consuming the least amount of power possible. The GTX 560 Ti is equipped with 384 CUBA... Read more

Hello there, i've been havin problems for the past 2 days regarding Windows 7 64 bit; first i installed the 32 bit version, as my Alienware m15x came with a Vista Ultimate 32 bit version, but Windows Update on Win7 made me get blue screen because of unknown issues, so i thought the 64 bit version of Win7 would help me.. but it didnt.

So, i became desperate and managed to find that in Device Manager, my nVidia GeForce 9800M GT driver was with a little yellow attention icon, so i clicked it and it turns out that "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

So i was lookin everywhere, on different forums and i couldnt find a solution.. My graphics on Vista were lovely and i could get Aero up and running, but now everything seems laggy graphic-wise.. i went to the Alienware support page (My Hive) but there are very few drivers there and none of them were for my nVidia card... Even on the nVidia website, i let their software scan my computer for Graphic Drivers so i installed the one they recommended, and hoped it would work after the reboot.. but it didnt.

So im helpless, and i come to you guys with hope that you could help me.

Thank you for readin my wall of text and i hope you have an answer for me.

i recently perchased a second hand computer, which was custom built.
the computer it self seems to be fine but im haveing trouble with the graphics card.
the computer came with a NVIDIA geforce 2 MX/MX 400 already installed, however when i try to run any newish type of game it comes up with an error report.
The program begins to instalise then the message... please insure that you have direct x 8.1 or higher installed, also check your graphics card is working properly.
i have managed to run a couple of older games but a game needing 32mb video card wont play. is there something wrong with my computer or is it simpy that my graphics card isnt good enough to handle the type of games i want it to.
i am unsure as to the spec of the card i already have and would greatly appreciate any help with solving the problem.
if the graphics card isnt good enough to run the games would you be able to recomend something that will as im unwilling to buy something that wont help.

the second part of my problem lies with direct x, the computer continualsly ask's me to insure that i have direct x installed however each time i install it from one of the games i own ( as the game also contains direct x 8.1) it dosent seem to solve it, i check where i have installed the file and the file is there but there is nothing inside the file labelled direct x.

Would and Nividia Geforce 8800 GTX be compatible with an XPS 600 if it had all the requirements?

A:XPS 600 and an Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX

Should be compatible, however, the XPS's PSU may be too weak for the 8800GTX.

Hey everyone

I have a 2year old HP pavillion with 2.10GHz, 3GB, 320GB, Geforce 8400M GS specs. I recently upgraded from the Windows Vista Home premium 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and can not find a good driver for it. This was assement was redone after installing the latest driver from Nvidia. I tried using the Vista driver but it didn't help. As you can see my graphics driver is holding my unit back. Any suggestions are welcome.

.... As GFE crashes on the Drivers tab if at the mo, fix is on the way. Probs best to wait for the fixed GF Experience.

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/81877/en-us

Fix until the update:

Avoid the driver tab at all costs, if you click the driver tab GFE will change the value to 1 and keep crashing until you edit the config and set it to back to 0 or another tab value:

Code:
%localappdata%\NVIDIA\GFExperience.exe_Url_tgm3mttmt5itflhj0kykoi5xkjy53x4g\17.13.3.1\
Look for the user.config file, open in wordpad, Change the 1 to a 0 in red and save.

Code:
<setting name="LastTabIdx" serializeAs="String">
<value>[B][COLOR="Red"]0[/COLOR][/B]</value>
</setting>
Avoid the Drivers tab until the fix is out which should be soon.

A:Nvidia Geforce 347.52 Out, But beware....

To add, seems setting GFE to US English also fixes the crashing, NV know whats causing it, fix is incoming.

Hi!
My computer runs XP Home edition with SP2.
I tried to find information about this issue on the nVidia forum, but there was not much there.
I have an nVidia Geforce fx5200 with a TV out port, but I can't get it to work. The latest driver is installed, but it won't recognize my TV, even if I set it to "force recognition" in the nVidia control panel.
Does anyone know how to fix that?
There seems to be a couple of different drivers out there for their video cards, and I do recall one of them having different options than the one that is installed right now. I'm wondering if maybe I have the wrong driver installed?
I recall that before now I had options to rotate the screen and something about nStone or Nview or something that had to do with using a projector? It was all on a right click menu, but now I don't have those options (I updated the driver a few months ago hoping it would help with a graphics issue in a game I was playing)
The sVideo cable is brand new, and works fine to hook up a DVD player to a TV (I tested that out first)
I just want to be able to play a movie on my computer and watch it on the TV instead of my hulking 15 inch 10 year old crappy CRT monitor.
Thank you for reading!

A:TV out on nVidia Geforce FX5200

Right click the desktop, click properties and click the settings tab.
There should be a picture of two monitors.
Right click the #2 monitor and click attached.
See if that activates it.

Yes, they need to be connected.

What is the wattage of your PSU and what hardware is your power supply unit (PSU) currently feeding? (Hard Disks, Optical Drives, USB devices, etc.)

The title states it all:
Is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 worth getting or rather the GTX 480?

I mean the price of the GTX 580 is a bit higher, but again it is better.
So is it worth getting, or should I go with the GTX 480 or maybe even the GTX 470.

Hoping for answers soon,
AwesomeTech

A:Is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 worth getting or rather the GTX 480?

Kind of depends what you have to pay for them.
At the moment the GTX 580 commands a premium because its 1. New, and 2. Has the title "Fastest GPU". Waiting until this card has competition in the marketplace (again, single GPU/card) in the form of AMD's HD 6970/6950 should result in a lower price -which in turn will translate into lower prices for the GTX 480, and also offer an alternative to the nvidia card if the performance level is similar (which should be the case).
The principle reasons for going with the GTX 580 over the GTX 480 or 470 would be the decreased noise and heat output due to a more efficient GPU and cooler design. If noise and heat aren't a concern - or you plan to use a waterblock- then the one metric that makes sense is whether the 10-20% performance decrease in the GTX 480 (for example) is matched by a 10-20% decrease in cost.
Bear in mind that the GTX 570 (basically a cooler, quieter GTX 480) is due for release fairly soon. This will also impact pricing on the existing (but soon to EOL'ed) GTX 480/470.

My personal advice would be to wait until the GTX 570, HD 6970 and HD 6950 make their appearances. You'll have a wider choice, better pricing, and at least another very fast card to take into consideration.
If your scope is not limited to one card then Crossfired HD 6870's will give better (for the most part) performance at a lower price with comparable power usage.

I run a GeForce 4 MX440 and after haveing the computer run for a while (say 3-4 hours of gaming) I shut down and whenever I try to start it up right away or if I just restart the screen becomes all garbled with different colers and stripes down the screen where every thing is shifted over. But after I let it sit for 3-4 min it starts right up fine.

any idea why this would hapen? I nolonger think that is is over heating(a friend said so and that was all the advice I have gotten.) because I now have a 90mm fan up fron drawing air in and a exsaust fan blowing out a PCI port right under the Card. That is in addition to the side, sucking it, and the back, blowing out, 60mm fans.

any ideas would be great...thanks
