A series of BSOD's during games and on the desktop

Q: A series of BSOD's during games and on the desktop

Hi there,

My PC is reasonably mature now and after getting a few BSOD's I just thought I was getting a little unlucky every so often. However they are now increasing in frequency and I can't seem to see a recurring theme in-between them.

Here's the log file. Hope it helps. I'm happy to provide any more info required.

Thanks a lot for any help at all in advance

Built the computer about 8 months ago and first random restart was about two months ago while playing Far Cry 3, it was about 5 hours into playing and Far Cry is graphically demanding so i didn't think too much into it, I continued playing after the restart and it was fine. Then three weeks ago it randomly restarted during Starcraft 2 and It rebooted and played again and it restarted again. And now it restarts after every 3-4 hours of gaming.

I turned on the BSOD, but it STILL just restarts. I looked at my GPU and it was pretty dusty so I waited till it restarted again which was tonight during ME3 and I took it out and cleaned it. Restarted played for maybe 20 min and it restarted again.

If it's a heating issue - which I would imagine it would be - what's my solution? Ideas?

Intel i5 2500K
AMD Radeon HD 6850
Gigabyte MOBO - can list the details but I forget off the top of my head
8 GB ram
CD/DVD drive

I have nothing overclocked. It's a cooler master case (v200 or something) with three fans.

I mean it could be the power - but everything I got should be having enough power. And would it still be able to play games for hours before shutting down if it's the power supply? I'm not doubting - I just don't know.

ALSO in the event viewer it's a Kernal Dump 41 (63) - 0 bug errors and all that - if it helps

My GPU TEMP is around 40-50 maybe max 70'c while playing games.

My CPU TEMP is fine as well.....

Which is why I'm confus... Read more

A:BSOD's spammed in all software's / games and on desktop.

No DMP files included in upload please try this method.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I recently bought this PC used (Acer Predator G3610). Got it so cheap I couldn't refuse haha.

MSI Geforce GTX 770 Twin Frozr OC (Replaced the default 560Ti)
Intel Core i7-2600 3,4Ghz
16gb RAM
1,5tb HDD space
Acer Predator G3610 motherboard
XFX TS Gold 650W PSU

After some time I started getting weird appcrashes and (rarely) random BSOD's. So I started to look into it. Every time a game crashed, it showed *****.exe as the faulting module (Diablo3.exe, ThiefGame.exe and so on). I couldn't find a connection between the different games crashing. There's no constant for the crashes, they are completely random while playing. Might be 10 minutes in the game or might be 3 hours. The BSOD's are always either caused by ntoskrnl.exe or dxgmms1.sys.

Here's what I've done so far:

Replaced old PSU with the XFX one
Replaced GPU (probably wasn't the problem anyway)
Ran full memtest86 with no errors
Ran chkdsk, no errors
Ran SFC /scannow, no errors
Uninstalled and reinstalled ALL nvidia drivers with a program called Display Driver Uninstaller
Checked if any drivers need updating with iObit Driver Booster, all are up-to-date
Formatted and reinstalled Windows a few times

The last thing I've tried is driver verifier. I saw from the dumps that ntoskrnl.exe or dxgmms1.sys were causing BSOD's, and verified those two. The PC crashed on startup, caused by dtsoftbus01.sys. After that I removed Daemon Tools. I'm not sure if that will fix anything really. Afterwards ... Read more

Hey guys at Windows 7 Help Forums,
For the past several months I have been having huge issues while playing games.
The issues seem to differ from game to game, however Dark souls 2 and occasionally Dota 2 will sometimes cause a BSOD. Sometimes instead of BSOD games will simply crash to desktop without warning or error messages. This happens anytime I want to play GTA 4, Dota 2 any bioshock titles and many other games. a large majority of my video games have become simply unplayable. From what I can tell all my drivers are up to date and my computer is free from malware.
My specs are pretty good and nothing appears to be overheating.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Ram - 8gb
GPU - Geforce GTX 670

A:BSOD and crashes to desktop playing certain games

Hi Blaise Parnell.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

Hi! I've been getting BSODs while playing XCom - Enemy Within and Heroes of the Storm, and today I got one at desktop after a hard restart I got while playing one of those games. My PC is about half a year old and I've checked to see if the hardware and cables were properly connected. I don't think it's overheating either as I get it after 10 minutes in those games almost everytime, and it doesn't crash in f.ex. Dark Souls 2. I've verified game files for XCom in steam several times, but it doesn't find anything wrong, and it doesn't fix it. I very recently updated both audio and video drivers, but the errors keep coming the exact same way as before I updated.

DM Log Collector ZIP attached.

Please help.

A:BSOD playing some games and even once on the desktop. Error 0x00000124

As you already know, you're receiving 0x124 STOPs, theses denote a hardware error. As is usually the case though the dumps are giving away nothing in regards which piece of hardware is problematic. The usual line of investigation here is to run a series of stress and diagnostic tests.

STOP 0x124 Troubleshooting

Read carefully before proceeding.

If you're overclocking your system, revert back to stock clocks now.

Test the system once the overclock is removed before continuing with the steps outlined below.

Run Prime95 to stress test your CPU. Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Your CPU temperatures will rise quickly while under this stress test. Keep a keen eye on them and abort the test if your CPU overheats.

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. RAM - Test with Memtest86+

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.[/note]

Counterfeit installations such as yours contains heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable.

My recommendation is to start with a clean slate, and install a genuine version of Windows. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable.

Hello everyone,

I hope I can find some help here with these crashes I have since several months now.

While playing games like CS:GO or H1Z1, I have a lot of crashes to desktop and sometimes BSOD. The BSOD can happen also while watching streams & listening to music. So far, I had these ones : 0x1000007E / dxgmms1.sys+1DFA5 / 0x0000003B / atikmdag.sys+C4DE0.

I think I tried everything in my knowledge to solve the problem but it still didn't resolve the problems. On the hardware side :
- Switched the memory sticks ;
- Switched the graphic card (my brother has the same one as me and it never failed him. Still it didn't resolve the problems on my computer) ;
- Switched to Marvell SATA controllers then to the 3Gb Intel controllers ;
- Used a USB sound card thinking that it may have something to do with the audio on the motherboard;
- Changed the graphic card slot to the PCI 8X.

On the software side :
- I reinstalled all my drivers using the suggestions made by this site : Easily explore your PC & using also some other softwares like SlimDriver ;
- I formated & reinstalled win 7 on my SSD ;
- I installed win 7 on my HDD thinking that my SSD was the problem ;
- I uninstalled the KB3022345 and KB3068708 updates ;
- Uninstalled my antivirus (MSE) & disabled my firewall ;
- Used the sfc /scannow command without any problems detected ;
- Run malware bytes & antivirus softwares (mse, ESET);
- Run software like "fixmypc" & ccclea... Read more

I have a Hp Pavilion with a 4.2 score, AMD Turion II P560 Dual-Core 2.50GHz, 4gb ram 300 gb storage, and a AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. I can play games like minecraft well on High performance and HD, 3D graphics but I want to play more games like Battlefield and Black Ops, MW2 MW3 -Beta. I use Game booster but it only seems to end my processes, how can i run my laptop to be faster for gaming without lag?

A:How can I make my HP Pavillion G-series computer run games faster?

go into battery settings and change to high performance, also most the time with laptops specs dont handle like there advertised due to battery and "saving space" issues. On top of that just try doing the normal, clear off empty hdd space, and use a good defrag program like auslogics and optimize to read the data faster. Trust me gaming is hard enough with just BF2 on my dinosaur of a laptop stuck to windowed resolutions of 800x600

I have been trying to play Neverwinter NIghts on my laptop for a few days now and every time I launch the game, I get  notification that the resolution is not optimal and then I get a message saying "the game has stopped" I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice with no sign of a fix. I called dell and they said there were corrupt files but that I had to pay them $250+ for the software warranty. I have been playing this game for months and it has never been a problem until now. Games are usually slow but they never crash this badly. Does anyone know what I can do or do I just have to pay out a bunch of money? Also there are problems with the headphones jack sometimes not playing audio through headphones, but through the regular speakers, any fix to that? I'm not happy that it has so many problems already (its only like 8 months old). Thanks!

Automatic repair couldn't repair your pc

I then choose Advanced Options which shows 4 options:

Continue- Exit and continue to windows 8

Troubleshoot- Refresh or reset your pc, or use advanced tools
Turn off your pc

Anything I can do here to get back to windows without losing any files please? I don't wish to use the Troubleshooting option if it will erase any files on the HDD?

A:Sony Vaio E series Laptop cannot go to desktop

You should be able to "refresh" your pc without losing your files. Im not sure about programs, but personal files you shouldnt lose. This should  work, I have done it myself and the Microsoft website also says it will not remove personal files when you choose this option. But I will say do it at your own risk. If it works, back up your personal information onto an external media for safe keeping incase something like this happens again.

Gentlemen/Ladies: I am strongly considering the purchase of above HP Desktop. I will use the system for surfing the web and video and photo editing. I am a novice in the area of video and photo editing. I am taking up the craft as a hobby and see where it takes me. The primary components of the system will be as follows:

- Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrading to Windows 8 when available)
- Processor:3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K quad-core processor [3.5GHz, 8MB Shared Cache]
- Memory: 16GB DDR3
- HD: 256GB SSD + 1 TB 7200 HD
- GPU: 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX680 [DVI, HDMI and VGA via adapter]
- Power Supply: 600 Watt
- Liquid Cooling Solution
- Monitor: Looking at Dell 27"2560x1440

The system comes equipped with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere 10

HP's Phoenix series is a favorite of some gamers. I was considering an Imac but decided against it because I wanted to stay with a PC. My question to the forum is are these components a little overkill? The price is not a barrier for me.

A:Is the HP-HPE h9-1210t Phoenix series Desktop Overkill for Me

I guess it will depend on how much video editing you end up doing. It is absolutely overkill for surfing the web, and overkill if you only do a little photo editing. The extra cores will help with the video editing, but you will never use them surfing the web. Even if you do gaming it will not help much. Games rarely use 4 cores of a processer. If you want a system like that, you would be better off building it yourself. It really isn't as hard as most people think and you will get better quality components, and exactly what you want. And you always have the experts here in chosing components and assembling the computer.

Hello!  I went to put my desktop into sleep mode before bed last night and noticed it had turned off.   No idea why.  I go to turn it on and NOTHING.  No lights, no sounds, no fans, nothing.  The power signal light on the back is flashing green.  I followed some steps from this page Unplugging everything from the back and holding  the power button for 10 seconds didnt do anything.  Pushing for 1 second and waiting 10 seconds didn`t do anything.  I took off my side panel for the next steps, but didn`t want to touch anything as I don`t want to harm anything.  I`ve tried another outlet and the light keeps blinking green.  I haven`t had this computer for too long, maybe a couple years or less.  I take good care of it with good antiviruses and making sure to put it to sleep mode everynight, and keep it updated etc.  Looks like the power to the machine is okay since the light is flashing....  is it something internal? Wondering if anyone could help?   Feeling anxious.  Please and thank you!

I understand that you started through the troubleshooting guide for power supplies.  The step about disconnecting internal components is essential to continue the troubleshooting, however.  If you are not comfortable with that, maybe get a more knowledgeable friend to help.  Otherwise it is off to the repair shop.

So, yeah. 5 year warranty compared to two of Buffalos and WDs, but does that actually mean that much more reliable a drive? With the problems with Seagate drives lately and a price slightly lower than with other similar drives I'm a bit wary... I won't be storing/backuping anything of real importance, just a handier option compared to a squadron of flash drives How much limited is the warranty actually? Because my motherboard has 3 memory slots, would I be allowed to insert three 256MB memory sticks, giving me a total memory of 768MB? I'm told that you should
not exceed the required limit of memory. Would someone care to comment on my

I have been assisted by them more than once and remember they do accept donations to keep the site going.I recently had the virus windows recovery tool and it hid all of my documents. Very scary moment for me. I went through the process to remove it with malware bytes and secunia psi and went into the command prompt to unhide everything. I recently got an HP 2311x Monitor for Christmas and hooked it to a Lenovo H200 tower. I am unable to get past Windows splash screen. BIOS says "we apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this." I have tried going into safe mode and just about every other option to no avail. I asked HP tech support to see if bad monitor but it is fine. I also called Lenovo Idea tech support and they said a tech will call back. I think something is uncompatible with Lenovo and HP monitor. It worked just fine when it was hooked to an old CRT. Cant handle the latest flat screen technology perhaps?. Any suggestions?

A:Lenovo H Series Desktop is not responding to recent HP 2311x monitor

Do you know anyone you can borrow another monitor from?

Have you checked monitor settings to make sure frequencies are within the range supported by your display device?

Another option would be to manually disable the display adapter driver. What type of display adapter is involved? Intel, NVIDIA, AMD?

I have the above PC and was hoping to increase the Ram size from 2gig to 4 gig.
I had a fruitless chat with Sony tech support (as usual) and they inform me that 2gig is the max for my machine.
The mobo has 4 ram slots 184pin config and at the moment is carrying 4 x 512m memory sticks type PC3200U and was hoping to fit 4x 1gig type PC3200U sticks. Unfortuately the PC takes for ever to boot with 4 x 1gig sticks in.
Can anyone advise if this machine is at its max of 2gig or can the BIOS be pursuaded to see 4gig?

Hopefully I can workout the new 4 x 1gig sticks config, if not I will have to return them to the supplier. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.

I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement

It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.

Any help would be great, thanks!

I started getting BSOD in August, but I fixed it on Sept 9th by updating my ethernet card. And my computer worked fine until an unexpected shutdown last night which was followed by a bunch of 0x9F problems, then 0x116 when I started up any game. I already did a disk check with /f and /r, and sfc /scannow. I also "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista did this in which I changed the TdrDelay to 8. I had the latest graphic driver, but I went back a version of the driver to see if that solved anything, but it didnt. Attached is a couple of my blue screen reports. Any help is appreciated!

Twenty three BSOD's is going to take some time. In the mean time I am running the latest 5. Be right back

EDIT: The first five were a mixed bag. Several were inconclusive (probably crashed before the file could be written), the rest memory corruption.

While I am doing the rest of them for comparision I would download memtestx86, burn it to a cd, and run it for 5 passes at least to test the memory.

Currently when I play a game the BSOD happens randomly, I can go a whole day without it, or it can happen frequently. It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference

There has been a problem with my computer recently. It was acting strange before but I decided to do a clean install, but the problem continually persisted. My problem is that there are many random BSOD messages coming up that are annoying and it is hard to pinpoint the main problem. Take note that no installation of anything new had been installed and everything was fine before BSOD started.

The first BSOD message was MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, I knew then that my RAM could be defective so I quickly do a RAM test with mem86. With a surprise, the test passed twice. Another note is that this takes place at random times and mostly when the computer is under heavy load. Then other messages started to appear and it really looks like the RAM is defected but it wasn't. I even switched the RAM to a different set but it suffered the same fate.

I am really suspicious about the RAM, but since it had been tested, I do not think that would be the problem. Another component I suspect would be the motherboard but I have no way to test it. If you can think of anything that may be the problem please suggest it.

I recently purchased a computer and its been crashing constantly for the past 48 hours. I ran memory checks and everything came back with negative errors (5 passes, then another 2). I've also gone back and forth updating/rollingback graphics and wireless drivers which i thought might be at fault. I've uninstalled Mcfee which came with the computer but I'm still having issues.I did install another SSD drive for Ubuntu which I have not yet formatted/configured but it shows up under the device manager. My next step is to remove the drive to see if it is causing problems somehow. Any other tips/suggestions?

A:Random series of BSOD on new computer

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:

1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter is disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why?

Out of 7 memory dumps there were 5 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

One suspect is your wireless. Please disable it in the BIOS to see if that stops the BSOD's.

I have a set of HP Z210 Workstations with E3-1245-V2 Xeon Cpu's, SSD boot drives and varying sizes of memory from 8-16GB 1600Mghz DDR3 ECC. We use Windows 8 Enterprise for these machines, with Hyper-V enabled.
We get regular driver failures from the 2 sets of USB controllers on the machines (Mainly and issue for the KB & Mouse) that can only be resolved with a full power down (not restart) and a power up. This happens at least once every 1-3 days per machine.
I had gone through the HP support, but they have advised this isn't an issue on their side, and I had agreed all along. I was just hoping to get some traction by notifying them. Anyway, after a lengthy trouble shooting session, we found that once Hyper-V
was enabled, the fault arose.
As it was an Intel chip, they I asked them. They advised that on Windows 8, the drivers are supplied via windows update and that it was not their issue.
So, how can I get this resolved? Not through HP or Intel, surely through MS? Maybe not. Disabling Hyper-V is not desired as I the teams with these PC's are developers and require local visualization. Also, we have templates ready for Hyper-V, I don't really
want to remove Hyper-V and use Virtual box or VMWare workstation. but I am at wits end with the fault and lack of help from the vendors.
Please help.

So I've had this laptop since christmas and I'm a bit worried about a few things..

The Samsung support for drivers is beyond pathetic. There is basically nothing available to the users except this software package called SW Update. A few of the updates simply don't work, which includes an audio driver and a bluetooth driver.

The switchable graphics has had trouble since Win 8.1, but I've gotten it to work thanks to some google searching. The Intel support for Win 8.1 has also been a mess from what I understand. Getting the Intel HD to run smoothly in tandem with the AMD Radeon has been an adventure...

However, I've had some random times where the AMD graphics driver randomly stopped responding and recovered successfully (not gaming at the time).

I'm worried that there is something more serious going on here, but hopefully it's just a driver issue.

Today I got a BSOD for the first time and I didn't get a chance to see what it was before it auto restarted.
I've since disabled the auto restart.

I've uploaded my mini dump file and any help would be greatly appreciated.

With the new year, we start a fresh discussion for members to share their order and fulfillment experiences.
We are retiring the 2014 thread    Anyone having an active discussion there can find it here.
The 2012-2013 tread  can be found here .
Here are some common points of frequent discussion:

How to get a system fast: Buy an in-stock standard configuration from Lenovo or a Lenovo Partner in your area. Customized systems take longer.
Avoid Credit Holds - ensure that BOTH your bill to and ship to addresses are listed with your CC bank before ordering
Lenovo will not bill your card until order ships - an authorization charge hold to check for available balance may show up when order is first placed.
Estimated ship dates are based on default lead time and can vary from what was displayed on website.
In the US and Canada, Lenovo utilizes UPS for new product shipments
Orders may ship before the Estimated Ship Date
Orders may enter through Alaska and pass through Louisville, KY before traveling on to final address
Cancellation requests may take up to 2 days to process
Requests to change configuration or other aspects of the order may require the order to be rebooked.
Lenovo does not accept payment via international credit cards, except AMEX.

We hope you enjoy your new ThinkPad system when it arrives!

I know it's been posted a s#!+load of times, but I figured I'd go ahead and get something straightforward- all the other posts have been in jungle English, and haven't included the proviso I'm looking for.

Anyways, my situation is that I bought my X1900GT from Newegg around Christmastime, as a present to my ainsel (ownself, for those not familiar). I've been getting kind of disappointed in it recently: It underperforms and often crashes on STALKER:Shadow of Chernobyl and some more modern games akin to it. It also runs hot as Hades.

I'm in the market for a new card. I'd like to go DX10, but the late-production DX9's (7900 series) seem to outperform a lot of the more affordable DX10 offerings (8600 series), especially at higher resolutions, due to the 128-to-256 bit difference. I could splurge and go for an 8800, I suppose, but it would be a hit to the wallet and I'd have to postpone :cough: "Aruban Getaway 2008".

So: I don't want to pass up on the new line of DX10-only Games for Windows (Age of Conan, Crysis, etc.) that have been hyped to all hell just because I stuck with price and performance instead of currency and novelty. I need some help deciding. Then again, I could always wait until DX10 becomes the vogue and buy a cheaper, but better card then.

A:Price v. Performance in 7-Series + 8-Series: Advice Needed

Keep what you got and see what's comming next. I have a 8600GT as a stopgap until something better comes out. There has been talk of a Nvidia 256bit card to fill the gap between the 8600's and 8800's. I can't fit a 8800 in my case, if I could I would just get the 8800GTS 320mb now. If I were you, wait for the game to upgrade instead of upgrading and waiting for the game. Your X1900GT is no slouch either.

I'm working on a used Gateway M-Series laptop, model number: W650I. The laptop runs fine, but whenever I try to boot into Windows with the hard drive that came with it, I get a BSOD! It essentially reads:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /f to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer. Technical info: STOP: 0x0000007BC, 0xFFFFF880009A9928, 0xFFFFFFFFC00000034

Thinking that it could be an issue with the drive, I took it out and put it a drive from a Linux machine, and the Gateway booted up normally. I also took the Gateway drive and put it in the Linux box, and the computer gave me an endless reboot cycle of "Windows is loading files." So the Linux drive works in the Gateway and in its own computer, but the Gateway drive works in neither. Simple, right? Just fix the drive; problem solved. Not so fast.

Now I know for a fact that the prior owner of the Gateway infected the machine with all kinds of malware, and a lot of it was never removed. Since Windows was compromised with so many viruses and other nasties, I simply decided to start with a clean slate. So I formatted and reinstalled Windows 7 on the drive. Knowing that formatting doesn't remove all malware, I also hooked the drive up to o... Read more

It looks like you still have several updates pending, you should complete those without browsing or using your computer to install patches and update important drivers.

I noticed one of your oldest drivers is nfrd960.sys from 2006, this is a raid driver, im not sure if you have a raid system or not but this could be important for drive stability.. Finish the updates and lets see where we get from there..

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on an Acer Aspire 5741Z-5539 laptop.
The other night I got an odd crash while trying to watch a YouTube video in fullscreen, where the video stuttered, the computer went to black and didn't immediately come back. I turned it off and back on and it went on fine. Last night I tried to watch the video again as I went to bed and it was fine until I plugged in the VGA cable to my desktop monitor and that blinked into a BSoD reading something along the lines of "A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught."
This morning I looked it up and found some sort of boot-time driver scanner that Windows has and went to run that. When I restarted my computer it started booting up and after a couple screens (not booted into Windows yet), it BSoD'd. Restarted, same thing. And again. Finally startup repair ran and it booted again, only now it had a message in the lower right telling me my copy of Windows wasn't legitimate even though it was installed on here by Acer themselves probably 4 or 5 years ago and never gave me this message before in that time. I restarted and the message didn't come up again, so I ran a boot-time scan with Avast to make sure everything was alright. Found one malware in Java and put it in the chest. Windows started up but now I noticed my SD card slot was no longer appearing under Computer. I'm not positive if it was gone on that startup or if it was gone earlier and I hadn't noticed. Restart... Hello Everyone,

Odd thing i've experienced yesterday, upgraded lenovo t410 laptop to intel ssd drive 180 GB and decided to instal win7 pro with integrated sp1.
In the post installation stage, while setting username and computer name computer crashed with BSOD.
It happen 4-5 times. Even booting in the safe mode i experienced 2 times complete freeze where i had to manually power off laptop.
I continued installing drivers on notebook and seams that issue is no longer present.
I have different problem now, windows shuts down unexpectedly without any bsod dumps. happen also several times in past 24h.
In attach you will see in system logs only single entry as i cleared event logs to find last occurrence easily.

Note that with Hitachi disk that was in laptop before I never experienced bsod, true is that i got laptop with installed win7proSP1 on it with all drivers installed.
I used lenovo system update tool to get all drivers to the system.

I am suspecting that new hardware (intel ssd 520 series) might be cause of this or the drivers either on sata controller or on disk.
according to ssd toolbox firmware on disk is latest.

Run Disk Full test with Intel ssd toolbox and finished successfully.
Also checked with malwarebytesand scanned system no issues found:

Hello people!

Firstly, please note that
There's something wrong with my laptop internal organs because when tilt it, it freezes. If I push back the laptop screen it freezes too (I suspect there's a short near the battery or where the screen attaches to the base. BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY because If I treat my laptop with care and love nothing happens, functions correctly. Nothing to worry, CPU Usage is rather normal.

High CPU usage cause
But I once run out of battery, and laptop went to hibernate mode. When I plugged it back and lifted the screen it crashed two times.

The first crash gave me a BSOD code error but didn't gave me a chance to take notes because it crashed/freezed again right away giving me a scary random screen that it looked like my laptop was totally screwed up. Then I switch it off and then tried to start Windows but I failed. I had turned it off again and fortunately I made it to Windows in normal mode, and everything looked normal except that my CPU usage went high as a kite and has been acting up like crazy since then. It tends to stay at 100% even with one or two processes (say Opera browser + Process Explorer) and it keeps bouncing (both user and kernel).

Err...Did I told you about my Botnet(?) thingy problem?
I discovered about a month ago a suspicious program which was happily installed on a root folder. I found out it is a program that could be use for either botnet attacks or to spy on me! I don't know how come or when I got it as I... Read more

It doesn't happen often but sometimes it freezes for a second while loading a certain game which works fine on another day and gives BSOD. Sometimes it happens after I've loaded the game and am in the moment of playing. My hardware is more than enough for the games I run and I even run them on low-mid even though I can manage high settings. The games I usually run are CS:GO, League of Legends and Modern Warfare 3 [rarely play; received 1 BSOD while loading it]

I've uploaded my dump files.

I want to invest in a SDD to replace my dying westgate harddrive. I've set my mind on Corsair but I want to know the difference between the eXtreme series and the Performance series ( According to the website, X SDDs reads a little bit faster, but the P series writes a little bit faster. The only other thing is that the P series is around 100 cheaper!

So is the X series worth the extra 100?

So first of all, I am not a computer wizard. Some terms I might not understand as i've never had a problem like this before, but i'll try to enlist as much information as possible.

Since last friday or so, i've suddenly encountered a BSOD. Now, i've had them before and it was only once. After a reboot it usually never happend again and everything was cool. But since friday, they popped up again. Mainly during playing Battlefield 1, but i've also had it happen during Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2.

I've had multiple BSOD errors, which are:

Now if it were one, I might've been able to pinpoint the issue, but.. They're constantly different errors that happen. Now, to explain a bit more in detail how it goes:

So i'm just playing a match of Battlefield 1. After 10/15 minutes give or take, it'll bring me to the blue screen. After processing whatever it has to process, computer shuts down and it starts to restart. At this point it will be stuck in an infinite restart loop, where my monitor will not display anything as well. It just says it's not connected to something, which it clearly is. After manually closing and rebooting, i'll have to do this a few times or mess with the HDMI a little bit before I get my monitor to pop up again. Once that happens, I get stuck in the beginning screen where you can see your HDD/SSD installed. It won't go further than that unless I ... Read more

Two days ago, I played a game on my computer - it ran flawlessly. I tried to play it today, and the game exits from full-screen mode and minimizes to the task bar. I tried clicking on it, hoping it would maximize, but it went back to its minimized state again.

This same problem occurred with several other games, and I believe that this is a graphics problem I must be having. I run Windows XP Home Edition, have 1.7GHz ram and 40GB of disk space.

My graphics controller is Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game at least twice, and I have updated my graphics controller to the most updated version. I have also tried using System Restore.

Is there a solution to this problem? I thank all readers in advance.

A:All games minimize to the desktop, and I can't seem to run them.

check to see if you are getting popups...that happens to me too. I get popups that do not actually "popup", they just open iexplore.exe and that is what causes the game to minimize. That was the problem i had anyway. Before u maximize your game again check your task manager's processes and see if iexplore is running, and how many iexplore.exe is/are running. If i am right then you need to talk to someone else about possible adware or virus' on your computer

Started having a few issues with Video Games I play, ie (Counter Strike GO, Metro 2033) slowing down and seeming laggy every now and then, CS GO happens randomly, but Metro 2033 usually only does it when there is a bomb blast for example that puts lots of particles out there. On the Desktop sometimes my mouse will seem laggy and slow for a brief second then return to normal. And I have noticed when I open Itunes, it takes 15 seconds to open, otherwise it looks like it is frozen, (I have the program installed on main drive and music is located on second logical drive).
I run AVG paid, and Have used ToolWiz, Sisoftware Sandra, and a few other programs to diagnose and chekc the health of my pc and have found nothing wrong with it.

System Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T
RAM: 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC 1600 running at 1600Mhz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7850
OS: WIndows 7 x64, Installed on Kingston Hyper x 3K 240GB, (105GB used, 118GB free)
Logical Drive: WD 1TB 326GB used, 604GB Free

Its not too much of a problem, but more irritating than anything else, although does tick me off when it does it during FPS gaming with CS GO.

A:Slowdown in games and sometimes desktop

What is your FPS (frame per second) with any of these games run? You can check that out by running Fraps (FRAPS show fps, record video game movies, screen capture software). It's a free program that will tell you the FPS that you run with any game.

Repost the FPS for both the games so I can see how I can help you

Hi all, within the past week or two I've been faced with a recurring issue that's been disrupting my gaming experience.

Some context:

I built my current PC about 4 months ago, all parts are brand new except for my GPU which is a little over 2 years old, however was not used until I installed it to this PC. Specs are as follows -

GPU: EVGA GTX 660 2048MB GDDR5 Graphics Card
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Dual Channel

Power Supply: EVGA 500 B1 80+ BRONZE, 500W Continuous Power
Storage Device 1: Samsung 850 EVO SATA III Internal SSD 250 GB
Storage Device 2: Seagate 1TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000DM003)
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Note: I've used the SSD as my main storage device up until a few days ago when I installed the Hard Drive. The OS is installed on my SSD.

What is happening:

It seems this problem has been happening in different variations, they are very similar but I will describe all 4 I have encountered.

I am just wondering if there is a way to set a downloaded swf game file as a desktop background.
The idea is to be able to play the game straight from desktop and not from IE .
For example, I would just click the start button on the desktop background and the game will start, instead of opening the swf file using IE.

A:Set swf games as desktop background?

Open the swf with the Flash Projector executable.

Put the executable in a safe place (for instance in its own folder in program files). You can even assign it to open swf by default, if you like.

Hey all,

Every time I try to play a game it will minimize to the desktop every hour or so. The only games I play are WoW and Call of Duty: MW2, so this is all the only time I've been experiencing it. Below I've posted my system specs, HiJackThis Log, and DxDiag log. Also, I've tried updating DirectX, but the installer from MS site said I was up-to-date. I recently bought Far Cry after playing the demo and ive been having the hardest time playing more than 15 mins or so without it cashing to desktop. Sometimes when the crash happens I can hear the sound repeating (like a broken record on high speed) for a second then the game disappears.

Ive had this problem in other games but the crashes were infrequent and the games were playable for the most part. But now with Far Cry's "check point" save system I end up no being able to progress through the game due to the crashes. I know other ppl have had this same problem from reading other posts here, but no threads I read pointed to a fix or a work around...its driving me crazy!

Things I have tried:
-Reinstalling Windows
-Updating all drivers including mobo driver (manufacturer drivers only)
-Removed Sound Card and using on board sound
-Adjusted settings in the game itself...ive tried minimum setting and maxium
-All windows updates are installed
-Installed most recent patch for the game
Sys Specs:

Athalon 3200+ (400 mhz FSB)
Nforce 2 motherboard
Radeon 9800 Pro
1gb DDR 400 RAM (currently running at 400mhz)
On Board Sound card
On board LAN (disabled)
Net Gear ethernet Card (enabled)
Im pretty good at fixing computers but im almost out of ideas for this one, please help!

Hello there forum goers. My issue today has to do with my Laptop. My laptop is about 2 years old now, give or take a few months. My issue with it is it runs games really badly, despite having the requirements to run them.

Im running Windows Vista. My issue is coming from my Graphics Card and Drivers. I have a |Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family|. When I try to update the drivers on Intels website, it tells me my Drivers are custom, and wont allow me to update them. The driver name is igdumd32.dll.

I have issues running Steam games. I recently purchased Magicka, but it does not work. I checked the link about "can you run this game", and got a failed because of the Graphics Card, however the card had all the minimum compontents, and than some, to run it. I am able to play World of Warcraft just fine, despite that site telling me the same thing (My graphics card fails, depite having all the nessicary components). Magicka wont even start up.

Other games, like Alien Swarm and Team Fortress 2, will run EXTREMELY choppy, and the sound will repeat over and over in choppy loops. Its literally unplayable. MineCraft, MINECRAFT, is almost unplayable.

Ill copy and paste the important parts from DXDIAG.

A:Help running games on my desktop

Instead of going to Intel's website, have you tried the laptop's manufacturer? They may have an updated driver you could try.

Your laptop may meet the minimum requirements for some of the games, but that doesn't mean that it will be able to play them. Intel chipsets are not made for modern gaming. Your laptop doesn't have an actual graphics card. It uses a chipset, meaning that there are a few chips on the motherboard that "act" like a graphic card and borrow it's video memory from your system ram. Unfortuantely it will never measure up to a true card, nor can it be upgraded as time goes on.

I have recently bought a new system and put it together myself for the 1st time. After installing everything and testing games it kept hanging or returning to windows. after searching forums on the i found that if i dropped the core speed from 166 to 133 solved the problem but its not ideal, my processor is running at 2.2 and i'm having trouble with AGPx8. I've installed the newest drivers for everything (although the offical catalyst drivers don't install properly or just don't work, i'm currently using ver3.2 that came with the card. I have tried the Omega 3.9 drivers that installed but cause lockups with Call of duty so i took it off) and even tried installing a bios update (which i'm not sure how it went think it might of failed and the old bios is still on). There was a voltage check program that came with the mobo that showed the -5v to be dropping below its parameters. i've asked around and a tech friend said it was probably my power supply but my IT manager an work said he'd have stacks of HDs running off a 300w psu. I checked the website i bought the case from and 300w is as high as they go.

Any ideas?
many thanks

A:games keep dropping to desktop

300 is kind of edging it for that system....I would go for at least a 350 or 400w power supply.

You don't have to get a power supply from the place you bought it, and ATX power supply will do.

I've been trying to figure out if there is a common factor relating to some of my games consistently crashing to the desktop while others seem to work just fine.

On games like Bioshock, The Witcher, and Americas Army, the game tries to load then crashes to the desktop. I can usually make it work by either right-clicking on the crashed application in my taskbar and clicking on restore.

When that doesn't work I can sometimes make them work by madly double clicking on the expanded game window even when I only have a blank screen.

What I'm trying to figure out is if this is a Vista problem or a driver problem, or even a combination of the two.

I've also tried running in compatibility mode for Windows XP and with Administrative privileges and no success.

A:Games crashing to desktop

is the app actually crashing? or is it just minimising to desktop? COD5 does that to me all the time after initial startup , you will be wasting your time trying to troubleshoot it mate trust me , it just seems to one of those things , alt/tab quite often restores it straight away.
