Lose WiFi connection after screen re-enable, after timed screen shutdn

Q: Lose WiFi connection after screen re-enable, after timed screen shutdn

I have an Insignia 8" tablet that I use to listen to an internet radio station. WiFi connection to my 2Wire 3801HGV router. I have it powered by the AC charger. I have the display to turn off after 5 minutes, never to go into sleep mode when powered by AC. After the 5 minutes the display is turned off, the music continues as expected and will continue for hours. But if I try to do anything I loose my WiFi.
Right after the screen is shut off I can enable it again with a stroke. Then the music stops. I no longer have internet access.
Network settings says I still am connected but somewhere the connection is broken. I disconnect from my router and then try to reconnect and it will not. I get, Checking Network Requirements, Can't connect to this Network. The only way I have been able to get connected is to do a restart.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I have not found any settings that have been useful. All it should be doing is shutting off the screen. Not go into any other sleep or power down state.

i had the same issue with windows vista , now i'm using windows 7
iam using the internal motherboard's vga
i use a usb wlan adapter so i thought it did a conflict so i completely removed it and still the same issue
the strange thing is that as long as i have internet connection this issue is not there
can anyone help me with that?

processor : amd athlon 7750

A:top of screen shaking whenever i lose my internet connection

Strange issue.

Since you have the same problem in a different OS, it sounds like a hardware issue (monitor/motherboard), or even some type of RF interference. Maybe someone could give a better opinion.

I connect the HP3001 pr , port replicator to connect an external display (DVI with HDMI adapter) and also connect to Ethernet RJ45 network. I also have a wireless mouse and keyboard connected on the USB port of replicator. All work well ,but from time to time I lose the external screen and reverse to the Laptop screen. At the same time I lose the Ethernet connection and laptop switch to Wireless WiFi network.Sometime if I remove the USB cable from laptop and wait until the monitor goes to sleep , I can reconnect the USB cable and the Hp3001  HP Dock comes back up with external screen available and  network reconnect to ethernet. Sometime the laptop just freeze and I need to keep the power button on until reset and then reboot Windows 10 . All updates have been done or show up to latest rev( windows 10, Bios, drivers for external display = HPS2031)Few times I got a message : Intel display driver recovered, so I checked but it says the Intel display driver is latest rev. Don't know if I need to update software on HP Dock? Any suggestion on source of problem.  Bernard

It is nice to see that HP cares about its customers. almost half a year later and issue still not resolved. **bleep** HP do something!!  It is clearly incompatibility with win10 and the docks drivers. In our organisation we have dozens of these port replicators and ALL of them have the same issues. network and display disconnects, freezes etc.

I gave my 10 year old an old refurbished Dell Latitude 600. It seems to be intermittently losing wifi connection, even on my home wifi system.
Is there a card or something that needs to be replaced? Am I better off just buying a new laptop?
Thank you.

A:What causes this PC to lose wifi connection?

Is it using a network card? Or does it have built in wifi?

The drivers may need to be updated. Network drivers and firmware can both become obsolete over time. Upgrading newer versions of these things can sometimes fix network connection problems.

Do you experience connection losses on any other machines in the house? Sometimes there can be interference.

Hi everyone,
I really need some help Please!

I have a very well updated Laptop running XP well patched with IE7.
I have run all the malware scans and there is nothing wrong on the PC.

After exactly 10 minutes of the PC being on, wireless internet connection is lost, BUT:

Signal Strength states "Excellent"

I can't access any website at all on the web. (Except for "Facebook" for some odd reason?) I can't access it
after the 10 minute mark but if I'm already on it, I can navigate thru it's site without being disconnected, don't
ask me why

I have tried the following:

- Dynamic and Static IP setting
- Turned on and off windows firewall and rebooted each time
- Ran all kinds of malware detection and virus scans
- Disabled power management on network card
- I've tried different PCs on the same network and they're fine
- Tried ipconfig release and renew
- Tried repair connection
- Tried netsh reset
- Tried FireFox and other browers
- Logging off and back in doesn't help, must restart the computer to get another 10 minutes

I'm at wits end, Please Help!

I have a perplexing situation. I have a home network with a wired router (Di604), feeding a Wireless router ( DIR615) set up as switch). I am just describing the setup, but please don't focus on that because it has been the same for about 5 years.

let me explain further....

the issue I have is when adding a second Blackberry to my WIFI, within half an hour ( varies) devices on the network begin to lose connection to the Internet... others still work, but later they will lose it also. This can span over several hours and eventually everyone is affected.... this affects both wired and wireless
My network has
2 devices

6 devices

would there be a limit to the number of devices my ISP might allow? That is the only thing I can think of? I could have sworn I have added others.
Sometimes they come back on their own, but rebooting rarely helps. I ussually have to go down and unplug the routers and modem and then put them back on one by one, do a release/renew (don't always have to). And everything settles down.

The only thing I liken this to is a Broadcast storm, but I don't know enough about the cause?

I've been having a strange internet connection for a while. Mainly via wifi, but also via cable sometimes. I have another post of losing the Ethernet adapter once in a while, but that seems to fix itself when I manage to reconnect to internet through wifi. That problem boiled down to this "Incorrect Network Key", which was what always blocked internet access via wifi.

When I cannot get connection via wifi, I run the Diagnose Connection problem in IE7. (I'm on XP2). A couple of times it has told me there's an issue with the Winsock and that it will proceed to reset it. But most of the time it tells me the Network Key is incorrect, although the wireless connection indicates that I am connected properly and have an excellent signal. It prompts me to reenter teh Nw Key in Network Connections. When I do, the existing NW Key is always different from what it should be. It also happens if I just open the Nw Connections panel and check the Wireless Nw properties for my wifi nw. What I have entered as a correct key, is not what appears.

It is like it doesn't "save" the Nw Key.

Where I live, there are two computers connected. My XP2, and an iMac G5, along with its own wifi nw for Apple TV etc. There are also other wifi nws in the building, but all protected. Also, these are not on my preferred nws list.

Any ideas?

oh what a shame! about how it sux to lose a draft. i guess you won't mind if i tell you the whole story... well, you know that it all began on thursday 18 november 2004 in a place somewhere in new south wales australia, right here on stardustsam, that's my laptop. sam was helping draft a typical 'confession/apology' style email, to a good friend of mine at myway in the new compose message screen, anyway 6.5 hrs later, cause sometimes I don't know where to start or when to stop, anyway after just getting messaged by some kind of wonderful ([email protected]) the purring one (stellaaa) opted to take a much needed break and after checking out the options is now clicking to 'save draft' resulted in being presented with a screen announcing that my email session had 'timed out' because i was 'apparently' inactive for more than the last 2 hours, but i'll tell you, after 6.5 hours of drinking tea, and a defrosting carrot cake muffins, after drinking more tea and reheating more carrot cake muffins, you get the idea, that's not the way it felt. Thanks for all your help; you guys/gals really know your stuff. You do use the power adapter that came with it as you all said and I found out that it is an automatic process; nothing special to do, just plug in and forget it. hew: Glad I didn't have to buy a charger. The problem is solved and I didn't know that it was so automatic.

Sorry to bother you again, but like I said, I'm a laptop novice and need all the help that I can get. Why does the laptop screen get brighter as you get closer to it, but normal as you get farther away from it? If this isn't normal, then what could be causing this? Is there some feature that I could turn off to stop this?

I plugged the laptop wireless card in and I have a DSL Connection. I know that I have it in right, because the ACT led lights up as the instructions say. The drivers off the setup CD have been installed. The card shows up in the taskbar. I've heard that it is possible to use the wireless card to connect to an already existing DSL connection. Could anyone tell me how to do this and/or what additional information would I have to obtain?

What you are describing is normal with LCD screens (as used in laptops) but if the screen is too dark for you then there is usually a way to turn up the brightness (check your manual).

It depends what you are using to connect to the DSL connection. If you are using a USB modem plugged into a computer then you will need a new kind of modem called a wireless router. However if you already have the right equipment then all you need to do is follow this guide for Windows Vista and this guide for Windows XP.

I set up separate account for each member of my family on the new PC. I would like set things up so when any of the accounts are inactive for 20 minutes it will go back to the login screen rather than a screen saver. Is that possible?

When Vista times out it goes to the login screen if the account uses a password. As administrator, I use a password. The rest of my family does not.

I want to go to the login screen because my family is too lazy to exit the current account and click into their own. They tend to use whatever account is on the screen, then complain that others make changes to "their" desktop. If I can make the timed-out account go back to the login screen, then loging into their own account will take the same effort as going to the account of someone else.

Can it be done?

2. Type wsreset.exe and click OK.

I use synergy between 2 computers. Up until yesterday, the Synergy server comp would trigger the screen saver after a half hour, or from hotkey trigger, and it would remain running on both machines until user input interrupted it. I acquired some themes from deviant art and after trying out a few, settled on one and applied it to both machines. I then noticed that the screen saver was set to "none", so I reset the screen saver that I had previously. The screen saver hotkey was pressed and they appeared both computers as expected. But after about 8 minutes, the client machine's screensavers stopped and the normal desktop appeared. The only thing to have changed on either machine was the new theme, and because on both machines the screensaver was changed along with the theme, I assume that the cause was the theme change. As far as what specifically changed, I have no idea. All power and SS settings seem to be as they were previously. This is a very annoying issue as the computers are on constantly, and sit near where I sleep. Any ideas as to the cause are greatly appreciated.

Yesterday, I managed to play Guild Wars, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion absolutely perfectly.I have searched forums, and it seems this can be linked to overheating, but my temperature gauge on the front of the computer says I run at about 30 C most of the time, and the computer itself is not hot inside at all. All fans are spinning fine, no dust.I have heard other issues such as graphics card drivers, and i have tried 3 different drivers, all of which did not overcome this problem.Could it possibly be sound drivers? Or possibly something wrong with the motherboard? Thanks in advance.Mod Edit: Topic moved to more appropriate forum~ TMacK

Oh, and one more thing is that I do not have to enter a password on login either, so I boot right past that to either the start screen or onto the Windows 8.1 desktop (based on my selected option). So, maybe it has something to do with the difference in our option settings. Anyway, good luck in figuring it out!

With all that said, I'm wondering if you setup your initial login to be auto, if that would also fix your lock screen issue as well?

W8.1, no separate accounts set up, just me as administrator.

On boot up I am taken to the tiled start screen. That's fine. If I go to the desktop and say use IE (the "old one") or open Libraries... or do anything really... and then close whatever was selected I am always returned back to the old desktop.
Is it possible to enable a "return to start screen". The only settings I have found are these and I unticked the default action but nothing seems to have changed.

Hi all,

As the title says, I'm looking for a way to enable the lock screen when the screen turns off. I have found the option to require the user's password when the computer wakes up from sleeping, but I need it to lock when the screen turns off (after 5 minutes on my computer.)

This is just for extra security because I'm forget to press CTRL + L quite often.

Thanks all!

A:How do I enable lock when screen turns OFF?

Easiest way is to set a screen saver for the screen switch of time and use the option to require password on wake - the blank screen is as good a saver as any to pick

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

A:Dreaded Win10 WiFi Issue: Can't enable WiFi after Upgrade

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

Bought this laptop a few weeks ago for college and although I didn't really want Vista, I decided to try it out. Sure enough, my computer has weird hang up issues with Vista (hangs up for no reason every few seconds and gets worse with more programs on screen). I decided to go back to Win XP. I found a system restore disk from an older Gateway laptop and reformatted the driver with Win XP SP2 Media Center Edition.

So far things have been going good. I wrote down almost all of the drivers that the computer had come with when Vista was still running so I could reinstall any missing drivers. Wireless and sound with the first two most obvious and easy installations.

However, I noticed I didn't have a display driver. I had the "Intel 945GM Express Chipset" display drivers when Vista was running, so I went and downloaded and installed from the Intel driver website. However, when I rebooted the computer and after Win XP's boot up screen, the screen went blank while I could hear Windows boot up and the OS was clearly running with just the display driver problem.

Vista had been running at 1440x900 resolution. However I booted the computer into safemode and disabled the drivers. Then I booted XP up normally and could Enable the drivers with Windows running. The screen flickered and all was OK and I could go into my Settings and change the resolution. I decided to pick the max resolution it would now let me which was consideraby higher than 1440x900 that had ... Read more

Hi all,

Today, I googled on how to enable hibernate on Windows 7 and I read the article in the following link:
Hibernate - Enable or Disable

I tried the third option, which is changing the value in the registry of the windows. After changing the value, I restarted the computer, which is what I was asked. While I was expecting to see the hibernate option enabled, I ended up with the blue screen. After the windows logo on the start up, blue screen shows up on the screen with dumping the memory. Now, I don't know how I can revert this back. Ok, I don't want hibernate enable anymore but at least I need my windows back. Could you please guide me on this?

A:Blue screen on start up after trying to enable hibernate on

Boot into System Recovery Options
on the Win7 installation DVD or Repair CD to run System Restore to before you made the change.

Most Hibernate problems are caused by the Display driver. Update your Display driver by running all Important and OPtional Windows Updates after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3)which may also performance updates that are needed.

If this doesn't resolve the Hibernate problem import the latest Display driver from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or adapter.

Windows XP Tablet Edition had to be removed from my Lenovo ThinkPad X41 tablet because the PC was issued for school, and the school-licensed software had to be removed. Now I'm running Windows XP Pro (a mistake on the school technical administrator's part?), and the touch screen no longer responds to the stylus.
I tried to contact the school technical administrator, calling to his attention that I'm no longer running Tablet Edition, which is probably necessary, but he has not responded.
I've tried installing such drivers as 7jge15ww and 913z07us, and I've run the ThinkVantage System Update several times, to no avail. Is there a driver I'm overlooking? Is it at all possible to simply USE my tablet properly without having to go out and buy Windows XP Tablet Edition?

I just discovered the hidden tweak which allows to enable an advanced Start Menu Animations. Also it is possible to play that animations every time you switched to the Start Screen.
try this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

and you will get something like this:

Launcher_SessionLogin_Tower_Offset and Launcher_SessionLogin_IndividualTower_Offset produce the carousel view for tiles. Launcher_SessionLogin_IndividualTower_Offset defines the ?far? distance of circle, and Launcher_SessionLogin_Tower_Offset defines the close distance.
Launcher_SessionLogin_Icon_Offset defines the offset for user picture. The greater the value, the greater the image?s right margin during animation.
Launcher_SessionLogin_IconText_Offset - same as above but for the user name.

Launcher_SessionLoginAnimation_OnShow - animation will play every time when you have switched to the Start Screen.

Ready registry files are attached.

A:Enable animations for the Start Screen in Win8

This is interesting, I think I might take a gander at this for myself.

I kind of like this, it reminds me of the new Start animation with Windows Phone 8 where the All Apps list on it kind of does that kind of effect. I also can't help but to notice that it seems you have something else in the works? The black pin icon on your Desktop labeled StartScreen peaks my interest.

I have already tried through the User Control Panel.
Screenshot of error is here

The program causing it is needed for my DLINK wireless card. I just upgraded this machine from 512 MB of RAM to 2 GB, if that matters.

I will not install the program, as if I do, the wireless card (and internet access) ceases to function.

Please help me re-enable it!

A:Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching disabled. How to re-enable?
suggests that it's a known issue. The D-Link card probably installs its own login module which overtakes the Microsoft one (msgina.dll = Microsoft Graphical Identification and Authentication) (there was a similar case with some Intel adapters).
The post was about a month ago, so I'd check with D-Link on a regular basis to see if they've released a patch or an updated driver.

other ideas:
perhaps uninstall everything D-Link related, then reinstall, but during installation pick manual installation (if there is such a step), then install just the driver - don't install the utility.

A user brought a laptop with a broken screen.  I had it running to a second external monitor and it worked fine, but I wanted to do a factory reset on the laptop (HP Pavilion, Windows 8).  In an attempt to force Windows to boot to the second monitor,
I disabled the default video driver (some last ditch internet advice).  Now it won't boot to the second monitor at all, and none of the normal Windows methods work (Windows Key + , Alt-F4 hotkey, etc.)  I think it's because Windows' multi-monitor
support depends on that video driver.  I need to re-enable that video card, but I have to do it blind.  I've tried recording and counting my steps but I haven't had any luck.
Would it be possible to remove the hard drive from the laptop and edit specific Windows configuration files to re-enable that video adapter, then put the hard drive back in the laptop and boot it up?  Does anyone know what config files these would be?

Hi. Each time I use a search engine I am redirected to an alternative website or the page loads as 'the connection has timed out'. The only way to bring up the correct page is by accessing the web address from the drop down menu. The computer is slower than usual and tabs close without warning. Also I have an anti-virus application named 'Internet Security Suit', which I'm worried might be a virus itself. It has annoying anti-virus warnings and that pop up on the screen and I am unable to uninstall it.

I scanned the system using Malwarebytes, which detected some infected objects. They were removed but I am still having problems.

Hey everyone, so I need some major help here and so far no one has been able to find out the problem. Let's hope it ends here!

Ok, so...last week I tried logging on the site to update my bands profile in this years contest. I had been visiting the site quite often with no problems. All of a sudden when I tried to visit the page, it gave me the message, "The connection has timed out" blah blah etc. I was using firefox. So I tried to use IE only to receive the same message. No problems with other websites, so I figured the site was just down for maintanence or something. I was wrong, no one else had problems accessing the site at all. I emailed the admin email they have on the page. No response. I contacted firefox live support, he led me through pinging the website (which was fine), and tracert (also fine), had me put in which is the address, same message, he didn't know what the problem was, said it was prolly my ISP. I contacted my isp right away, he led me through the same steps and some new ones. Made sure I dont have any firewall or antivirus on blocking it, which I dont. I did a system restore, reinstalled firefox, same thing. Same problem. No one has been able to help and everyone is completely baffled. Any suggestions or help?

My PC with Windows 10 was working fine until I switched it on this morning. And when I attempted to use the internet, I get the dreaded err: connection timed out notification. The odd thing is, this is a selective error. For example, facebook opens perfectly fine, but everything else like email or news pages just perpetually attempts to connect, and then throws me this error.

I attempted to do a scan with my malwarebytes, but it hangs up at the updating stage as it attempts to connect online and update with the latest virus information. But I haven't downloaded anything in the past 48 hours, and do not believe it is a virus.

This is the second time this has happened to me, and the first time the only thing I could figure out to do was restore windows 10 which fixed the problem, and I've not had any issue for many months...until now. And I've never seen this with any version of windows prior. Is this a Windows 10 bug? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone. I have the latest version of AIM and I am trying to sign on but it keeps telling me that the connection has timed out. What's going on? Is this a problem with AIM's servers or is it a problem with my settings? I tried Auto Configure which successfully configured my settings but it still won't connect! Thanks for your time.

Since early July I have been unable to send or receive emails. ISP said as the cable, PC and power connections were O.K. I should try Microsoft I have tried and have been on the merry-go-round ever since.

Now checking the menus on IE7 >Tools>Diagnose Connection Problems. On clicking this it showed up a WinSock Catalog problem, when this was fixed I got the results:-

Automated repair : Reset WinsSock catalog. BUT, there are six errors remaining on WinSock and six warnings and three errors on the HTTP, HTTPS, FTP Diagnostics.

Can you advise how, or where do I go to fix this, Please keep answers very simple and explicit.

By the way, OS: XP Pro sp2 LOC and sp3. I have already tried that forum and also the team but for one reason or other I have not been able to get further.

Ok, I've been having this problem for the last few days when trying to access a certain site. The site is which is for your account with Sony for your Playstation. It works for other people, and even works on my phone, but will not work on my computer. I've tried everything I could think of, and some things I found online, but nothing works.
I tried flushing the DNS.
I tried netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log.
I tried simply restarting the computer.
I tried restarting the router.
I tried setting the Local Area Connection DNS to Google's and
I tried doing that in the actual router.
And probably a few other things I can't think of, but still nothing works. I need to get access to that site, so can anyone help me out?

A:The connection has timed out/Firefox.

Is this the only site where the connection times out in Firefox? Try checking your browser settings. Open a new tab and type in about:config. Check the setting for network.http.connection-timeout and network.http.connection-retry-timeout. The number is in seconds. If it's a low number, try increasing it. You can also try disabling the add-ons, and check your antivirus to make sure it's not blocking access.
Have you tried accessing this site from another browser?

Newbie Append Here, Tough problem, need suggestions...

Frequently takes a long time to get to first page. Happens on IE as well as FF, also on my email client.
Using Symantec firewall, don't think WinXP firewall is on.
Tried refresh of Adobe Flash Player per suggestion in Firefox Support forum, no help.
Would like to have a tool to see how long each step of getting to the web takes so I can see if there's a bottleneck.
Occasionally "try again" button works on the "connection has timed out" message.

My PC is 6 yr old. xp-home, lots of ram, HDD available. Run Symantec AV/MBAM frequently. Ran Housecall and Dr. Web- no problems.
Talked to my DSL provider and Symantec in depth. Similar lethargy when I get IE running but not as frequent as under FF. Measured my DSL speed - 5MB as promised.
When the lag occurs, Task Manager does not show FF taking a lot of processor time.
Have done the things suggested in FAQ to help with performance.
I'm hoping someone has experienced an analog to this and has a suggestion to diagnose and solve. Thanks - Mike.

Thanks, Mike.

I have went into the tools box in Internet Explorer and clicked on internet option and than connection and I was going to try to change the proxy server LAN and when I would go into it to change that I would be able to find the address to put in but can not figure out what the port section is. I am using a wireless connection and it shows that i have connection even when I try the troubleshooting section that checks the connection and it tells me that there is no problem with it. I also tried restarting my wireless router and than restarting my computer which did not help. Than I tried disconnecting and reconnecting to internet and still nothing. I hope someone can help me cause I would like to use my things on computer. Hi all

Ive never really had much of an issue with this but recently Ive paid for the wisestamp email signature prog for my business and while I can get it working fine on the wireless laptop I cannot access the site on the desktop without the browser error -

The connection has timed out

The server at is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Ive currently got Firefox version 5.0 and the same problem occurs with Explorer
any help would be most appreciated!!

Again no problems accessing the site or service on the laptop

The problem started yesterday, I read hours about the problem on the net, I turned off the router, reboot the computer, turn firewall on and off, I tried all what I have read, I can't list them all here. I even tried to re-download iTunes etc.. Nothing changed, I still have the same problem, could not connect to iTunes, and if connected it is slow, very slow, and most of the times it failed to connect saying the same message "Connection Timed Out".

At the end, I've done some changes in my operating system Vista, and the problem has been solved completely:

1- In control panel I clicked security
2- In firewall, I clicked on allow a program through windows firewall, it took me to Windows firewall settings
3-I clicked on advanced
4-I removed the check box on all Network connection

Finally my problem is solved, iTunes connect normally to store without the annoying error message.

Hope this help

Good Luck
