NVIDIA Driver causes system instability and BSOD in Lenovo Y510P

Q: NVIDIA Driver causes system instability and BSOD in Lenovo Y510P

I am currently running the 358.50 version of GeForce drivers, however there are newer ones available (361.43). For some reason when I tried updating, my system got really unstable and eventually blue screened with KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. When I rebooted it was fine, until I tried to use a graphics intensive application (Photoshop) that caused my laptop to switch from Intel HD to NVidia. My computer locked up and crashed again. I booted into safe mode and rolled back the driver, but I need to install that driver eventually as I use this laptop for gaming and Photoshop.

Maybe another driver needs to be updated? Maybe it's my Intel driver? I couldn't find any issues comparable to mine so I'm assuming there is a conflict I can't find. Thanks for any help you can give me, I don't know much about how drivers work.

A: NVIDIA Driver causes system instability and BSOD in Lenovo Y510P

Exact same thing has happened to me with a Lenovo Y410p. I did a Windows 10 update yesterday and updated my drivers including my Nvidia driver and since then I have gotten three KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE BSOD when running graphic intensive applications like Photoshop or Illustrator. Today I did a fresh install of Windows to see if it fixed the problem and as soon as I tried launching a game I got the elusive orange screen of death with the same error.

Hello, Last week i received my Y510P from a reseller here in Lithuania, and ran into a *slight* problem. When playing more demanding games (though i wouldnt call borderlands 2 a very demanding game), the screen freezes and the sound hangs. Occasionally the display would turn pitch black (sometimes the drivers just reset with screen backlight still on). I checked memory, sshd, cpus and main gpus for errors, but none were found. I have no idea how to test the ultrabay though... Temps are pretty high, but definetly not critical. CPU runs below 85c under load, main gpu runs at around 75c, only ultrabay runs hotter, but i've seen people saying that theirs run above 95c and it still works fine. Mine usually crashes when it reaches 91-93c. It reaches those temps in about 30-60 minutes, steadily heating up.  I tried removing and re inserting, but it didnt have any effect. Im stumped. Sorry for rambling on so long. I hope somebody can help me pinpoint the problem, and maybe help fix it. Thanks. System specs:Win 8.1 proIntel core I7 4700MQ 2.4ghzNvidia GT 755m SLI8GB ram1TB+8gb SSHDAll drivers are up to date.

It seems that re-pasting the ultrabay, and increasing TdrDealy to 8 fixed the problem, but i believe it's something more serious than that...

Hey all, I'm new to this forum, I've been lurking reading random tips that have applied to me in the past, however, I am faced with a situation that's unique to me, I think...

First of all, I've recently built a new computer, and I will go into detail as to what is going on both physically and computationally.

The computer is in a Antec 182 Case. When I purchased the case, had a bundle deal with a Quattro 850 PSU, so I purchased it. After buying it, I find that the PSU BARELY squeezes into the PSU cage of the case; I have to squeeze the cables through, some bending close to 90 degrees.

I am using a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L motherboard. It has the P45 chipset as well as a ICH10 southbridge (not ICH10R).

I have 8 gigabytes of RAM installed as well as an IDE hard drive and optical drive with 4 SATA hard drives.

Lastly, there's a PCIEx16 GeForce 8500GT video card. Other than that, no PCI or PCI-E peripherals.

Before installing, I fully formatted all of the drives and checked for corrupt or bad sectors. None were found.

Here's where things start to get hairy...

After install, there is immense system instability. I've installed 9 times now, and EVERY time, after about 20 minutes of usage installing drivers, there are virtual memory problems (the system is running out... etc) even though there is a 4GB page file. Increasing the page file to 8GB hasn't made a difference, either.

Also, when transferring large files from an SATA drive to another S... Read more

Hi Guys,

This is something that has been bugging me for almost a year now and I've just been really lazy to solve the issue.

The problem is because for some reason, unknown to all except Lenovo, they decided NOT to support Windows 10 for a couple of the laptop models that they had in their product line when W10 was launched. Just my luck, my Lenovo Y510 (Model No - 20217) is among those unsupported PCs and hence there are certain features that no longer work.
(Laptops-and-netbooks :: IdeaPad-Y-Series-laptops :: IdeaPad-Y510p-Notebook :: 20217 - Lenovo Support (US) As you can see, nothing for W10)

PC Specs:
- Lenovo Y510P (Model No - 20217)
- NVIDIA GeForce GT755M
- Windows 10 Home, Version - 1511
- Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @2.4GHz

The issue that I'm facing is that my Webcam just wont work. Issue that I can see:
- The light adjacent to the webcam on the laptop keeps coming on and going off and then finally just stay off (each time I try to use the camera)
- Skype and other applications that need my camera can no longer detect it. Initially, my video keeps on appearing and disappearing until it finally just goes and stay disconnected, as though I don't even have a camera.
- Error message on my Camera app when I try to open it: "We can't find your camera. Error code - 0xA00F4244(0xC00D36d5)
- When I go to my Device Manager, there is no list called "Imaging Devices" as a whole.

I've suddenly been afflicted with BSOD's on my Lenovo Y510P running Win 8.1. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and then I started experiencing multiple BSOD's to the point that I had to boot in SafeMode. After doing some research, it looked like the issues were related to video (NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M) and wireless/bluetooth drivers. I upgraded all of those and everything was fine for a week until this morning when I got another BSOD. After looking for the bug check that it reported, I stumbled on this forum and saw some excellent responses so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I downloaded BlueScreenView and ran that and I've attached the output. I have also attached output from the MiniToolBox tool. I also tried to upload the mini-dump files but I get a message saying I'm "not permitted to upload this kind of file" but I'm happy to do so if I'm allowed to.  Here is a link the output from the Speecy tool as well - Would someone be so kind as to give it a look and let me know your thoughts? Thanks!

Hi folks I'm new to the forums to please excuse me. I'm currently posting from my phone so when my laptop comes on I'll attach the debug file.

Basically I set my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down and when I went back to resume my work (about 20 hours later) it was running very slow.

I was searching for my 'Calculator' but made a typo so I tried backspacing the letter but nothing happened. Chrome (which I had opened at the time) was unresponsive and so was my taskbar.

I waited a while to see if anything would happen but nothing did so I forced shut down.

I left it off for almost a half hour and when I put it on I got that error 'Unmountable_Boot_Volume' and it needed to restart and so it did but then the error came up again this time it did an automatic repair which lasted a few seconds then it was diagnosing which lasted a few seconds and then I got the following message:

Automatic Repair
Your PC did not start correctly.
Press restart to restart your PC which might sometimes fix the problem. You can also press Advance options to try other options to repair your PC.

I clicked restart and it did.. I got a black screen for a minute or two but I got to log in. But once again everything was moving slow so as the start menu seemed to be working I shut down the laptop. (It's currently off)

Can anyone assist me with this problem?
It would be really good if I can actually find out what's really wrong with my laptop.

Only 48 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 to 80 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available.

The memory dumps blame usbccgp.sys, but MSINFO32 lists ks.sys (kernel streaming of video driver)
And this seems to happen during a power down event (such as power off/hibernate/sleep/etc)

Finally, what applications do you delay using Startup Delayer?
What USB devices do you have connected?

I'm concerned about your version of Diskkeeper as it dates from Jan 2013 - well before Win8.1 was released.
Can you update it? If not, please uninstall it while we're troubleshooting.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi guys,
I am having BIG problems with my Radeon 9800 pro 256 video card and it's drivers//catalyst control center.

I have just recently done a pile of work to my computer, and the original post is here:

Now I have issues with the computer rebooting because of drivers(I think):

If I set hardware acceleration to nothing, my computer runs just fine, minus i have minimal graphic usuage, but I can surf the net. If I set the hardware acceleration even on 1my computer will eventually reboot.

Also if I set the hardware accel to nothing I end up getting a catalyst control center warning which is:

The catalyst control center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the Displays Manager.

Ok first off,
"The catalyst control center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter"
So what? The driver that was installed for my graphics card(adapter?!) with the catalyst control center does not support itself? I must be reading this warning incorrectly. I did uninstall this once (figured it was a bad install) ran Driver cleaner pro deleting ALL ATI products, reboot and re-installed..same deal.

So my driver is brand new so, update driv... Read more

If you have removed all instances of ATI in Add/Remove programs -- then either used driver cleaner or ATI's own cleaner (they have one), then installed both the main driver and the Control Panel from the SAME downloaded package -- that error message is inexplicable.

Although I haven't used these personally -- you might want to give the OMEGA ATI mod drivers a run -- as they have the Control Panel integrated into the main install. You must remove the Control panel from Add/Remove programs before installing.

When you installed the card, did you ensure the power supply connector was correctly plugged in? Is your power supply up to the job?

You say you are rebooting -- no BSOD? Run sysdm.cpl and select Advanced > Startup and recovery and ensure there is no check in "automatically restart".

Let's see if any minidumps have been created:

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last 2 or 3 minidump files to that folder. They are numbered by date.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select "Send to (folder name).zip"
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

I have an Asus A8N-E mobo which has optical and coax outputs for 5.1 sound and an nForce4 chipset. I just got a set of Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speakers and couldn't get them to receive a signal from either digital output from my mobo. They worked if I hooked them up to the direct outputs, but not the digital.

I called Asus and they told me to install the Realtek sound drivers instead of the nForce4 sound drivers which I was using. So I did. Now both the optical and coax jacks on my mobo output sound (and with quite a bit more volume than the direct hookups), but the sound quality in some games (Half-Life 2, Galactic Civilizations 2) is noticably choppier. However, the biggest disappointment came when I fired up Battlefield 2. When I actually get into the game the sound is absolutely awful. None of the sounds I hear coming from the speakers is representative of anything that's happening on my screen. It's horribly loud, and the same sounds keep looping over and over again. When I press ESC to quit the game my pc actually crashes to a blue screen of death (which has never happend once in all of my years of using XP Pro) which tells me that "ati2dvag" is causing the problem and the driver is stuck in an infinite loop. What fun!

I'm not really concerned about fixing this problem with the Realtek driver because I'm not happy with its performance in games that actually work, and I can always switch back to the nForce4 driver and use the direct input... Read more

Good Evening Stinky, that really is technically "up there " stuff you have.
I got a headache just reading about it! The AI system is real space age stuff.

I did see a set of Nvidia drivers at
but I haven't played with 64 bit stuff with my TRS80 or 286 up to this point so wouldn't know.
As you mention the realtek drivers seem to be the most mentioned but I wouldn't be surprised if you have problems getting those drivers out. 30megs sounds like complicated drivers. Better you than me "gunga-din"!

I've had my system for just over a year, with no crash issues until this week. I am trying to narrow down what has changed to cause this. The problems:

*********skip to the next break if you want the short version

-starting Thursday, my machine would hard-freeze at random intervals of about every hour with no blue screen, requiring a hard reboot.

The suspects:

1) I moved across country last week, and had my computer shipped via UPS. I sent it in the same packaging it was sent to me in, but it's possible it got shaken up.

2) There were Windows 7 critical updates released this week.

3) I installed a scientific word processor I got from another student this week. I just followed the readme that was with it but, in retrospect, I suspect the installation may have included a 3rd party crack to avoid having to register. I did a system restore to before I installed it, but I don't know whether that would necessarily undo any damage that may have been done.

4) There were a couple of minor hardware changes (different plug-and-play monitor, logitech webcam added).

I tried what I could think of, including sfc /scannow, but even once got a hard freeze while in BIOS setup. The last thing I tried was to reseat my video card, which I had unseated to ship the machine. I did that last night and left my machine running overnight. It has not hard frozen since, easily the longest run since Thursday.

However, I did just get a BSOD moments ago (see ... Read more

Hi everyone,

I bought a new computer and, since the first day, experiencing BSOD and application crashes.
Here is the config :

MoBo Asus P7P55 LX
Proc Intel Core i5 750
RAM 2x2Go Corsair XMS3 1600 9-9-9-24
GC ATI Radeon HD 4870
HDD System Intel SSD X25-V 40Go
HDD Data Western Digital 500Go 7200RPM
OS Windows Seven 64Bits
The OS is a full retailer and I installed it myself.
Since the first day, I get MEMORY_MANAGEMENT or SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION errors during the morning and only Firefox/IE crashes, Kaspersky database corruption, Explorer hangings then.
I already ran 3x MemTest 86+ 4.0 on the first boot of the day (computer cold) with each RAM stick and with no error at all.
I launched tests with OCCT 3.1 and the processor succeed.
Today I ran the BSOD Dump & System File Collection App and a System Health Report : the results are zipped and attached.

If someone could help me, I'd be grateful.

Hi and welcome to SF!

Here are something you have to do:
First of all, please remove Kaspersky, they appear to be the reason that crash your system. If you need an alternative program to use while not having Kaspersky, I recommend to try Microsoft security essential, it is known for BSODs free.
Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab products

Update this driver please:

ASACPI ASACPI.sys Mon Mar 28 09:30:36 2005 (42476C4C)
The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 10th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

So I got my computer. Yay... Old computer I've had for a while now. A 2002 Compaq Evo D500 with Windows XP, 250GIG Seagate IDE HDD.Lately I've been trying to solve major system instability. I've been googling and googling untill today when I googled "IdeChnDr.sys BSOD" and got "blah blah blah, uninstall Intel Application Accelerator blah blah blah.." and the lightbulb in my head went "DING!", that must be the problem. So I googled "Uninstalling Intel Application Accelerator" and I run into this.Once the Intel? Application Accelerator has been installed on a hard drive larger than 137GB with Windows* XP and Windows* 2000, you will be able to access the full capacity of the hard drive. If you later decide to uninstall the Intel Application Accelerator, you will not be able to access any data located in the 48-bit LBA region (above 137GB). Uninstalling the Intel Application Accelerator removes the 48-bit support that was previously enabled. If you experience instability issues after removing the Intel Application Accelerator from a hard drive larger than 137GB, this may be because applications were previously installed in the upper 48-bit LBA region. If no other hard drive changes were made to any existing partitions, you should be able to reinstall the Intel Application Accelerator in order to correct these issues. Hello all,

I am having BSOD problems, and have been for a few months now. For the most part, they are random and fairly sporadic, yet today I had two within five minutes.

My system is a HP and runs Windows 7 Professional. The BSOD's themselves vary each and every time. There are 5 crash dumps in my minidump folder, although at my last count I've had more than five BSOD's, as the system has froze several times on the BS, so I had to shut it down manually and obviously the crash dump didn't complete.

I've already checked RAM and my HD for errors, to rule them out. I'm aware though that that doesn't mean they aren't to blame. Also, I've not installed any new software/hardware since the BS's started, of for some time before the first, so I'm pretty sure it isn't that.

Lastly, for a while before the first, and ever since, the whole system seems to be getting more and more sluggish, slow, unresponsive, and generally a pain to use. It also seems to freeze fairly often, without a BS appearing.

While running Windows (and MSE in background) only, it appears to be using around 1.1Gb of RAM. Don't know if that's normal Windows behaviour, or that it might be indicative of some problem.

Due to the general instability of the system, I'm fearful I might have come across some form of Virus or Malware that MSE can't track, though I sure hope not.

Lastly (apologies for the huge post) I've attached all of the crash dumps from the system, and hope that someone smarter... Read more

I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

It first happened a few months ago but i took it to the shop and they said i was working just fine. Worked for another month, and then did it again, and then it lasted yet another month now doing thia again. The same thing every time. I had it worling yesterday, somehow it just started spontaneously working, and then after shutting it off today it started to loop again. I dont know whats wrong with it??

Also I was wondering if I can install a M.2 SSD. My laptop is still in warranty, I didn't open it. If yes, is worthy for daily use to sell my Sandisk ssd for a M2 ssd? Thanks!

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. Please help me if you can, I really wouldn't want to send this to the warranty since it's brand new and propably gonna take atleast a month. Thank you already!

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

It's been 4 months since I've bought a new laptop (HP Pavilion dv7-1253ca with a GeForce 9600M GT, originally branded with Vista) and upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit version). Since then, I have a series of instability problems caused by an unknown agent (possibly an incompatible/conflicting driver?), and that includes:

constant Firefox crashes (with the crash report window);
constant Chrome "Aw, Snap!" messages;
constant Flash Player 10 crashes with all browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera, IExplorer);
constant random crashes playing games like The Sims 3 and Fallout 3;
"Desktop Window Manager" service constantly stopping.

Here are a few fixes I've already tried:

fresh re-install of Windows 7 a couple of times (32-bit & 64-bit versions);
disabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention);
uninstalling/disabling IDT Audio drivers;
uninstalling/disabling Bluetooth drivers;
clean-boot Windows;
memory testing with memtest+ (diagnostic OK);
BIOS update to the latest version;
disabling Powermizer within nVidia drivers.

So, the only solution to the problem I've found was to uninstall the nVidia drivers and use the crappy "Standard VGA Display Adapter" drivers that come with Windows, that don't support Aero or let me play any game. As soon as I install the GeForce drivers, everything starts crashing again. Another solution I've found was to run Windows Vista, but that's totally unacceptable after you try Windows 7 for the ... A:Instability with Win 7 x64 + nVidia drivers (9600M GT)

I'm experiencing the same issue with my Geforce 9800 GT.

Also, in the device manager, I have exclamations next to my processors, stating the following:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

I had no issues in Win 7 32-bit. But I found 64-bit was working flawlessly on my Dell Latitude laptop at work. Guess my Intel i5 processor just isn't up enough to specs as the Intel Core2 Duo... even though all the parts I bought assured full 64-bit Win 7 support. Gotta love it.

the BSODs.  I've also ran memory check and passed.  Anything else I can check?

I just want to comment on this - because I'm having the same issue.  I've used the laptop for a number of months without crashing issues, and it seems to have cropped up pretty recently.
I think it might have something to do with the driver version?  It also only seems to happen with certain games.  In particular, War Thunder and GTA4.  I play Dota 2 quite a bit and don't seem to have any problems at all.

Hi,I have a problem when playing any games with SLI enabled. Games crashes at random times, sometimes even after ~5mins. So at that specific time the screen goes black and the game minimizes (or I try to minimize it by myself). After that the message pops out saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". I have latest Nvidia drivers (v344.11). I'm running Windows 8.1 x64. The problem occured with any version of display drivers I've installed so far.

Hello everyone,  I bought a y510p about two years ago and for the first year it worked flawlessly then one day it wouldnt start up. What would happen is it would try and boot up and show the Lenovo message then go into the novo boot menu and after 1-2 in that menu it would crash no matter what option was chosen and would keep doing it over and over. It also would only do it if the A/C cord was NOT plugged in. If A/C power was plugged in it wouldnt start at all. I gave up on it for about 9 month and it sat in my closet About 3 days ago i tried it again and it booted up fine no problem, did windows updates, restarted multiple times and no problems until today where it shut down and reverted back to what it did before. Any ideas? I am stumped and believe there might still be life in it.  Thanks!

Have you updated your video card drivers with the latest drivers from the Nvidia website?  Have you monitored your GPU temperatures to see if either of your GPUs are overheating?  You can try using GPU-Z to monitor your GPUs while gaming.

Dear Lenovo family! I have bought this laptop (Y510P) around the end of December 2013. I have just decided to write these after long time of having issues with gaming. Also tooday I have just changed my Hard drive to SSD with booting windows 10 64bit from scrach hoping that it would all come to an end however it did not. -I have updated all the software, drivers etc. I have uploaded a RAR folder including my Nvidea system information, speccy system screen shot and all the logs from event viewer.  Now here is the problem I am having. When I start playin a game (For instance CS:GO) at first it is all good:-As soon as I run the game SLI gets activated.-Fans starts getting faster and both graphic cards getting warmer.-After 10-15 minues of gameplay, game freezes, screen gets minimized for 3-4 seconds and eveything freezess then games screen comes back and another 1-2 seconds game freezes then starts back on.- Problem repeates after another 10-15 minutes of game play. What  could be the problem?Could it be CPU speed is not properly working?Could it be because of the Graphic cards? I will be waiting for your help! Thank you all!

Hi all, I have the lenovo y510p SLI 750m version and recently (2-3 days ago) my cpu fan on the left side of the laptop stopped working with the dust removal tool. I removed the lid and I can see both fans spinning just fine, however only the right one actually performs the dust removal when prompted. The other one stays queit and I don't feel any air pushed out of the left side. I can feel it on the right like normal though. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi sifuraga ,
You can initially power drain the system , turning it off removing the ac adapter and battery then pressing down the power button for 12 seconds . Start the machine using the Novo button (page 82) to launch the Novo menu for BIOS set up and set BIOS defaults f9 save and exit F10. Check the BIOS version.
Check how it goes else proceed with uninstalling and fresh installing the Lenovo power mangement tool . Restart and recheck .

I purchased my Y510P back in Q2 2014, it was already on Win 8 when I purchased it. Everything was working fine even after the  SLI issue with  Win 8.1 which was fixed through a BIOS update that was available here in their product support page. During that time I worked more on other things and didnt really notice anything about the GPU and its update. I was able to update my laptop to Win 10 (back in Q4 2015) and I'm currently unsure if it already installed the anniversary update. Recently, I tried some few games and noticed that the second GPU seems not be working during any games I've launched. I ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark and seems that the SLI is detected, checked the device manager both hardwares are detected, and updated to the latest GPU driver. But still seems to be not working. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there. I'm just hoping that I can find the solution as soon as possible. So I tried playing some casual games yesterday and all of a sudden the game froze and the image started tearing apart. Next thing you know it, the screen went blank. So I force shut down it and reboot, but after the Lenovo logo, the screen goes blank. There's a faint glow, but there's no image or cursor. Could it possibly be that the GPU crashed and there's no graphic to power the display? Or should I try entering Recovery Mode or Safe Mode to switch the display graphic to Intel HD? Besides, how do I enter Safe/Recovery Mode since I'm on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello 8-forums.

I'm posting on behalf of my little brother since he isn't the sharpest when it comes to computers. Today his computer started freezing and crashing out of nowhere at completely random times. I couldn't pinpoint an activity he was doing which might have caused it.

On top of that a pop-up kept coming up on his screen about his screen driver having crashed and has been restored. I happen to have the same laptop and I've had this problem for a week or 2 too, but nothing happens when it shows up on my screen (unlike his, where it crashes the computer). His screen now also has blue matrix-like lines all over his screen as a result of todays crashes.

I asked him to send the Zip-file from the DM log collector tool. He only had a BSoD once and he didn't notice the error code. The rest were freezes (forced to restart) and crashes (no BSoD screen).

Hope you can help find a solution to my brothers problem.
Regards Jens and Walther

Hi Snejxjens,

Welcome to the 8forums.

Please remove some files to increase the free space to at least 10-15%.
Every partition needs at least 10-15% free space so Windows can do its thing in the background.
Less free space could cause BSOD's

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from the manufacturer.

I have been having serious issues with the 750M (non-SLI) on this laptop. It will not work at all. I have noticed this issue on both Windows 8.1 (factory image) and Windows 7 (fresh install). Device manager lists it as saying: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). Disabling and re-enabling the device makes the screen flicker and nothing else. I have tried various driver version configurations (with a driver sweeper run each time) and NOTHING will get it to work on either OS so I am beginning to be convinced that this laptop is a POS and has had the 750M video card die. Attempting to play games clearly illustrates that the intel GPU is being used instead as there is very low FPS.DXDiag will not show the video card even if I disable the intel GPU.GPU-Z shows the video card, but you cant see anything about frequencies or fillrates, bandwidth, sensors etc.

A:Phone keeps disconnection from bluetooth on lenovo y510p

Either your computer is shutting down that connection after 15 min's or it is your phone. It helps to know what OS the phone is running and which mfg & model of phone you are using.

So since christmas is coming, I was thinking it would be cool to upgrade my 8gb RAm to 16gb My question is: what kind of memy card I need to my lenovo ideapad y510p? and do I need to change my old memory card aswell if im buying new one? Also is it easy to change those RAM cards ?

A:Lenovo Ideapad y510p - memory upgrade

They're RAM sticks, not cards, and they're fairly easy to change out. I would suggest looking for something in the 1866mhz speed, though I think you need lower voltage memory. So I'd get something 1.35v or lower.

Hi, I've been having troubles with my laptop screen. Upon reopening my laptop from sleep mode, the screen remains black instead of loading up the login screen. I've plugged in an HDMI external monitor and it displays fine so I know it is the laptop screen. Also if I restart the laptop, the laptop screen works fine. I've tried updating graphics drivers and adjusting external monitor options (Win+P) but with no success. Any suggestions on what I should do? I've had this laptop for a while now and there is no valid warranty.Thank you

Hi all. I recently obtained a used lenovo y510p from a friend with the following configurations. Windows 8.1 ProSLI capable with 2 geforce 750M cards6gb RAMItb Hard disk2gb dedicated video memory. It plays games at decent speeds with medium settings but I get different errors from each of the 3 games I've tried. For dragon's dogma dark arisen, the game suddenly slows down for a few minutes and picks up speed again after a few (maybe 5) minutes. With mass effect 2 the game screen hangs, while sounds and music continue as normal. ctrl alt deleting and pressing esc will make the game proceed as if nothing ever happened. Finally, for the witcher 3: wild hunt, I get the windows display driver has stopped responding error. The games are properly purchased and as far as i know, so is the OS. I've tried all nvidia display drivers between and including 347.09 to 364.72. I've tried closing all other apps, and ending all nv processes in the task manager. I've also tried different power plans and different nvidia power management modes. I've been monitoring the temp with HWmonitor and it usually tops out at around 81c which I understand is fine for this particular laptop. I even have a targus chill mat to help regulate the temp. Lastly, I've spoken to my friend and he doesn't remember having those issues at all, but he never managed to game with the laptop very often. Any help would be appreciated, this is my first lenovo product. I pereviously owned a dell xps.

I never had this problem before until recently I noticed that my fan was making this loud buzzing noise. It was bearable at first. I thought that the fan might be dusty inside because I haven't cleaned it ever since I bought it. Last week, I tried to open the laptop so I can check why it is making that loud noise. I saw that the fan was dirty. I tried cleaning it. When I turned on my laptop, it was still making that loud buzzing noise. So I just ignored it. After a week, It suddenly got louder. It didn't sound normal anymore. I tried restarting the laptop but it still makes that noise. Its annoying. I took a video so you can hear what my fan is making.  It just keeps doing like this even if my laptop is just on stanby, like I'm not doing anything with it. This is what it sounds like when I did the Dust Removal tool on Energy Management.   Since I kept using the Dust Removal tool.. Now its making this weird noise, like the fan is getting stuck on something. I don't know what to do anymore. Its been 2 years since I bought this laptop so I don't have anymore warranty and I never had problems with my laptop except for today. I have never dropped it so I don't know why this is happening to my laptop. Please help me.

A:Lenovo Y510P fan making really loud noise.

Hi there, Xbelleh -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.
This video would leave me to believe that a piece of paper or other debris shifted inside and is now coming in contact with the fan blades.
When you use the dedusting cycle the debris is temporarily being blown out of the way of the blades.  What I would do is use a can of compressed air and blow out the fan assembly from both directions and see what is blown out.  Compress air is available at any office supply store, electronics store or big box discount store.  When using the compressed air use short bursts as an extended burst may damage the fan's bearings from over revving.
Also, when using the laptop take note of its position.  If the fan is quiet on a flat surface, but is noisy when sitting at an angle like on your lap.  That might be a good indication that the fan bearings are failing.
Worst case scenario is you need a fan replacement.  The fan is something that the owner can replace if you are comfortable working inside it.
As a do-it-yourself project it can be fixed in an afternoon. At this point I would try the compress air and we'll go from there.
Update us how it goes.

Hi all. I just bought my Y510P from a guy on craiglsist who had barely used the laptop. (Like turned it on once and then put it in the corner for a year and a half)  When I got it, the guy had restored everything to the factory settings which was just Windows 8.1. My first problem is that the computer keeps defaulting to use the HD 4600 instead of the 755M that I have set as the default graphics card in NVIDIA Control Panel. I disabled the 4600, but then the computer was super slow. Any idea why this is happening? My second problem is that I can't find anything to speed up the fans so that the computer will automatically overclock the i7. I'm tempted to slowly force it to overclock and have the fan speed increase with the temperature, but I'm afraid that I'm going to break something that way.  If anyone knows of a way to control the fan speed then that would be great. Thanks. Computer specs: Lenovo Y510Pi7-4700MQ8GB RAM1TB HDD24GB SSD (PCIe)Intel HD 4600 Graphics and GT 755M

Good evening, I will keep this short, I have a Lenovo ideapad y510p with Windows 8.1 (I got it with 8.1, did not upgrade from 8) . I noticed a problem yesterday, where I cannot adjust the screen brightness. If I use the keyboard commands (Fn + Up and Fn + Down) The slider appears on the top left of the screen, as always, but does not ?slide? It stays static.  If I move the slider on the Setting menu, I can slide the value but the brightness does not change and the value is not reflected on the slider on the top left of the screen. I am not sure when this happened for the first time.

So this morning I woke up like usual and start my laptop up. It took a while like usual to boot up then it went straight to the your computer needs restarting blue screen and I thought hmmm this happened a few times and usually gets fixed. This time it went not to the home lock screen but the trouble shooting blue screen after picking my language and type of keyboard. Then it goes to two options "advance options" or "shutdown" I go to advance settings then there were 3 more options. Refresh settings, reset settings or advance options so I chose refresh cause I didn't want my files to get erased since I haven't backed them up yet. I click refresh and a message says that my drive where Windows is installed is locked. And it told me to unlock it and try again. So how do I access this? I forced shutdown but the same thing happens for a few times. Now I'm worried about this problem. Can anyone help me before I actually have to reset my laptop?

Hey everyone,
I bought a Lenovo Y510P laptop yesterday and it is extremely slow. It takes quite long to start up, simple tasks such as opening the control panel will freeze it for a about 30seconds. I haven't dared putting any demanding software on it (apart from Chrome and McAfee (paid subscription)).  My 6-year old Toshiba P300-17R is faster, which is completely ridiculous. I have no idea why it is this slow. Could anyone point me in the right direction for fixing this annoying problem?

I have a Lenovo Y510p with 2x GT 755m cards in SLI. When playing games like WoW the MAX GPU temps on Card 1 reach 90°C. On Card 2 85°C.At this point the game starts to stop responding. The screen will go black for about 1 second andthe laptop's fans will slow down for just a moment before the game resumes and the fans go back up.This will happen pretty much any time the temps hit 90°C again. I have a Notepal U3 laptop cooler with 1 fan on each GPU intake slot and 1 on the center of the laptop.I have also repasted the CPU & BOTH GPUs with Arctic Cooling Silver 5.I have modded the bottom case of my laptop to allow more air into the laptop. The BIOS is also modified (so are the GPU BIOSes) To stop the crashing I tried upping the voltage on both cards by 012.5mV - 025.0mV. This didn'twork at all. Games always seem to stop responding when temps get to 90°C. However my laptopshouldn't even techinically be getting this hot in the first place. What are your MAX temps whilst doing some extensive gaming?2. Have you repasted your CPU & GPU?3. Have you modded your Y510p fan intakes to allow for more air?4. Do you use a cooler?5. After many many hours of searching forums for solutions I have been unable to find a solution to my problem - so I decided to open a topic of my own and hope someone can help me with my problem specifically.

My problem is similar to this topic, although the solutions posted there aren't working for me. In short: I have been experiencing random but frequent BSODs (16 and counting) with the message 'driver power state overload' being displayed.

In my quest for a solution I wanted to upgrade my drivers, when I noticed my Nvidia Geforce 650M graphics card seems to have disappeared. When I try to install the latest driver from Nvidia's website I get the error 'graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware'. Attempting to open the Nvidia control panel gives me the message 'An Nvidia graphics card was not detected on your system' and I cannot find the card listed in the device manager (only the intel HD graphics family is listed under display adapters)... To be clear: I'm quite sure my laptop SHOULD have this card, it's just not detecting it for some reason.

Since the symptoms of my problem are exactly the same as described in the topic linked above, I have tried to follow the solution described by Arc. Installed Driver Fusion, started in in safe mode and tried to delete Nvidia drivers - but nothing seemed to be listed here. I still clicked delete but not sure if this actually did something or not.

A:BSOD driver power state / Nvidia graphics driver problems

Hello Zephos.

As per the supplied data, this is the specification of your graphics.

Name Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0166&SUBSYS_21031043&REV_09\3&11583659&2&10
Adapter Type Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, Intel Corporation compatible
Adapter Description Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Adapter RAM (2.080.374.784) bytes
Installed Drivers igdumd64.dll,igd10umd64.dll,igd10umd64.dll,igdumd32,igd10umd32,igd10umd32
Driver Version
So, it says it is not nVidia. But as you are saying that it was Nvidia Geforce 650M, and it disappeared, the best option is to contract the vendor. I wish you are within warranty?

Hi everyone, I've had a Lenovo Y510P with SLI 750m's for about 1 year and 3 months now. 2 weeks ago (around the time I upgraded to Windows 10). My laptop suddenly is unable to boot for the most part. When I press power, it hangs on the initial blank screen, with no logo pop-up. I have managed to get it to boot before, just simply by restarting over and over, but it's been 3 days and no luck now. It simply stays on a blank screen (no backlight), though the keyboard and power button light up. Here are the steps I've taken to troubleshoot:-> Removed battery, unplugged AC, performed "fleeting power removal" by holding the power button for 60 secs (have done this multiple times)-> Removed RAM, changed slots etc. When there is no RAM, the machine will continuously reboot-> Removed HDD, reseated-> Removed 2nd GPU. When the 2nd GPU is plugged in, the fan will try and spin every so often-> Unplugged connectors to wi-fi module-> Restarted many times-> Pressed the NOVO button, it simply brings it to the blank screen Any advice would be much appreciated. The laptop itself is in good condition, and has little physical ware. Unfortunately it's no longer under warranty, and I'm sure the cost of sending it in is quite high.

Hello, I have been using a Lenovo Y510p since the beginning of 2014. It worked perfecly fine till a couple of weeks ago when it suddently turned-off while I was watching a video. From then onwards, it wouldn't start. Novo button or power cycling wouldn't help either. Since it is out of warranty, I took it to Geeksquad to see if they can diagonize the issue quickly but I was said the problem could be deep rooted and it needed thorough trouble shooting. I came home and started disassembling the unit part by part (Take out Hard Disk, Optical Drive, RAM, Wifi Card etc) to see if I could isolate the problem but the laptop simply wouldn't turn on. Suspecting that the mother board could be the problem, I purchased an used motherboard on ebay and swapped the existing one with this and assembled all the components back to their place. This time, when I power on, the keyboard would glow and I can see the heat dissipating fan spinning but it would spin for like 3-4 seconds and then it would stop and the laptop would power off. Then the laptop would start again, the fan starts spinning and stops after 4 seconds and this enters into a loop. All this while, the screen is totally black and doesn't display a thing. F9 or any other buttons are of no use. Novo button is of no use either. The laptop enters into the same loop with Novo button too. Would this mean that my CPU has given up on me? I request your kind help! Thanks,Shyam

I have a Lenovo 510p running windows 8.1. It did an automatic update after restarting it showed a BSOD for less than a second then went into startup repair. It said "Startup repair couldn't repair your PC" it had a spot to display a log file location but it was blank. When I tried to refresh it said "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again". Reset said "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing". System restore said "To use system restore you must specify which Windows installation to restore." I only have one Windows installation. When I ran chkdsk it said ( when I did chkdsk /f it said ( I ran the Lenovo system restore and it restored back to factory settings, but still won't boot. If I connect the drive to another computer I'm able to see all the files but it won't boot on the other computer either.

A:Lenovo y510p Windows 8.1 Safe mode won't boot.

I'm wondering if the graphics adapter used on the computer is not compatible with the generic VGA drive Windows 8.1 uses for safe mode. Has the driver for the graphics adapter ever been updated? I noticed this on the specs. If you have the model with the two adapters, it's possible they conflict with the safe mode video driver. I saw a post where the computer had both an Intel and Nvidia adapter.

Hello, I only found out after purchasing the Y510P laptop that it for some strange reason does not support 5Ghz networks, only 2.4Ghz. This results in me having insanely slow connection every single night around peak hours (7-11pm), and I'm unable to do anything like watching movies, playing games or download stuff. Does anyone know exactly how to upgrade the wireless card on this laptop so it supports 5Ghz networks? Do I have to go out and buy another wireless card, or is it software upgrades like drivers only? I'm not a computer major so a walkthrough would be appreciated. Thanks.

From about 3 weeks ago, my Lenovo Y510p (GT 750M Sli, purchased in 2013) started to make this weird grinding/buzzing sound at random times on the CPU side of the fan. It was barely noticeable if I had headphones on at first, but starting from the second week the noise and vibration of it grew louder. After doing some research for possible fixes, I have tried the method openining Energy Management and running the Dust Removal feature to temporary solve the problem. However, that method only worked for about a week, and starting from the third week the buzzing remains very consistent even after I run Dust Removal several times. Does anyone here know what is the problem exactly? I know for other models, people have been able to solve the problem by updating their BIO driver provided by the website. But all Y510p users seen to have that problem early enough to just get a refund or send it back for exchange/repairment using their then still active warranty. I would like to know if there's any way that I can fix this without having to spend money for the fix when it is proven it is the company side issue since even fresh new purchases of the same model ran into the same exact problem within days.

This has been an exhausting day! I've been trying to figure this out for quite awhile.

To start, I'll post some information.

My webcam was working fine yesterday! I tried doing a system reboot to the the week before that and alas the issue prevailed. My internal webcam is not being registered by my laptop!

So the solution that seemed obvious enough was to check my drivers, update them if necessary. Which I ended up doing. Alas, the issue prevailed.

Checking the device status, I received the error "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer." The device is currently registered as 'Unknown device' as I uninstalled the driver. I was receiving the same error when I did have the original drivers though.
Looking up what the error means, it meant that the device was disconnected. I'm not entirely sure how this could happen though with an internal laptop. I also need to get a new copy of the drivers (Which don't seem to be registering the device upon installation).

Anyway any help would be appreciated as this has become a huge headache for me, and i just want to skype with my friend!

A:Need help with internal webcam drivers for Lenovo Ideapad y510p.

It might be that the webcam has failed if everything else has been can take it somewhere and have it looked at but im not even sure they can be fixed when they go. it might be cheaper just to get an external webcam such as a logitech.

Hey guys, I am having a weird problem with my Lenovo Y510P, there's a LVDS cable which connects the motherboard to the lcd. When I disconnect this cable, the system boots perfectly and I can see the desktop when connected over hdmi to TV. I am unable to find the source of this problem, is it the LCD that's dead or some component on the motherboard? A short somewhere?

Hi everyone - I have 2 issues with my y510p (it's a little less than a year old, so with the warranty coming up I figured I may want to get some second opinions). The first is that recently, say within the last month or so, it has developed the habit of rebooting for no discernible reason and with no warning.  It will just snap to a black screen instantly.I've done a full refrresh of my Windows 8. I've run all the validation tools I could think of (hard drive/mem/OS files/etc.) There's nothing particular evident in my event viewer except for this in my system errors:'The description for Event ID 0 from source GeneStor cannot be found. So as a heads up for anyone else that might be encountering either of these issues - I called support just now and I'm sending it off for repair.  Bit of a bummer since this is my work machine (thankfully I have my t500 from college still kicking around to use in the meantime). Tech support was really nice and quick. Didn't make me walk through the diagnostics/troubleshooting I'd already done which is refreshing. Hopefully this is just a fluke because apart from these issues I really like this machine (and as I said, my thinkpad is rock solid.)

Hi guys,

having a bit of trouble! I am trying to install the "NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management" driver and it goes through all the steps, but when I reboot and do a scan with "Driver Checker" it tells me that the driver is out of date. I run Windows 7, which might have to do with the problem. I'm not exactly sure what a PCI System Management is good for but my internet runs very slow and I have a pretty good spec on my computer. Unfortunately I didn't buy the computer from a certain manufacturer (e.g dell, etc.) but rather made up.

Hope some one can help - have already sent the computer back and all they did was insert a stronger processor - the only thing that that helped with wass with the BSOD (BlueScreen), but otherwise the internet runs super slow!!!

Welcome to seven forums.IMO driver checker and similar programs are designed to find something wrong or else how would they sell you the program? My suggestion woulld be to go to your motherboard makers site and make sure you have the latest chipset drivers installed. This is a 8200sm though. Still uses the 15.45 nvidia Nforce driver. This should help. also are their any problematic devices in device manager> Yellow triangels on devices? ECS Web Site the 15.45 they reccomend here Pleas post back with results. Or you can try the latest from Nvidia 15.49 Thanks
Fabe (edit) the only model I could find is the GF8200SM-M3 V1.0 If you have the link to the exact model please post it but i think they most likely use the same chipset, but could be wrong. If you could copy and paste a view of your device manager that could be of some use also.

Hi. Apologies for the lack of dump as per instructions but I can't!
I install 8.1 (clean) on gigabyte sniper mb. It boots fine. Then (without connecting the network) I install the drivers that came with my nvidia 780 card. This also works and my second screen comes to life. I can use this as long as I like, but when I reboot, just before the logon it dies citing nvlddmkm.sys as the issue.
The system will now not boot again nor restore (hence lack of diagnostics). When I want to use the pc again I must go through the whole installation process again.
I'm getting a bit desperate! Any advice very gratefully received.

A:System unbootable after nvidia driver install

Try going through the process without install the driver from Nvidia.

Windows 8 is more driver aware than Windows 7 - users should never have to install drivers unless a technical issue needs to be addressed (other than a user installing a driver manually).

Let Windows Update do the heavy lifting - if there is an issue after that, members can help.

So I had to do a fresh installation of windows in my laptop. It has both intel and nvidia graphics. I downloaded the latest nvidia 372.70 driver from nvidia's website and installed. And ran a windows update that downloaded latest intel driver. All was fine. Next day, when I started the laptop, I got a blank screen at startup and finally a BSOD with "driver irql not less or equal" error. Did some google. Used a software, whocrashed. It said nvidia driver caused the crash. I then googled some more and somewhere found that I had to use the exact driver from manufacturer's site. So, I then downloaded both intel and nvidia driver from hp's site where i think nvidia driver is 354.something .  Removed the drivers from laptop using Display Driver Uninstaller. And then installed the drivers from hp's site. Still then I get the bsod again; this time it says something wrong with nvlddmkm.sys. What can I do ?

I got a BSOD earlier today while playing Far Cry 4.

My computer is in my signature. I can say that I don't have anything overheating whatsoever. I have also overclocked my i5-2500k to 4.2GHZ stable 24/7 overclock. I haven't overclocked my GPU, but I'm running on factory overclocks. I haven't experienced any BSOD before with other games and I'm 7H into the game already, so this is the first BSOD I've had this far with this game.

Does anyone know how to fix the windows recovery bootup thing? It is kind of hard to describe but, When you get BSOD and restart the computer, you would get this message that says that "Windows did not shutdown normally..." etc, etc. You get to choose which mode you would want to boot up windows as, Safemode, safemode w/o internet or start windows normally. After this message there is a countdown from 30 seconds which would automatically start windows on normal mode. Problem is that I can't even wait until 24 seconds and it just get unresponsive, everything freezes and so does the countdown. I have to do a hard shutdown by the computer power button and start over again. Is this normal? If not, how can I fix this problem? Need your help guys :/.

Ok , I was doing the usual things , surfing the net , typing documents when all of the sudden - the monitor whent black and suddenly restarted. The windows splash screen showed up then after that nothing happens - just black .Then a bsod appears sayin a file named nv4_disp is the cause. I booted into safe mode and deleted nv4_disp.dll and every file with nv4 in its name. I then started to boot windows normally then it works - with no video driver running which means I can't play any games..

I even went far to reformatting the pc but after maybe about 5 days , the problem showed up again..

I don't know why this happens and I get irritated why this happens.

Can somebody show a fix for this?

A:BSOD: Was my NVIDIA driver?

All of your dumps are blaming your nVidia driver, this could mean that the driver is at fault or your card is overheating or faulty. We'll try replacing the driver first and foremost to see if that is causing the problem.

Download this earlier version from here and follow NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems for the cleanest possible install. Once installed test your system for stability.

Hello guys,

I Just installed a fresh windows 8 on my computer and it worked fine until I installed the nvidia drivers. Without nvidia drivers it works fine, but after installing it it starts to freeze and crash. After I remove the nvidia driver is it works fine again. I tried the newest and the older nvidia drivers but none of them were stable. The symtopms are different each time. Sometimes BSOD sometimes some part of graphics on the screen goes pink sometimes the screen blacks out and does not return until I hard reset it.

I attached the log files. Could you please check them guys?

Your BIOS dates from 2007. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

There is a good chance that this system isn't compatible with Win8/8.1 While it may work, there may continue to be problems that just can't be fixed. It's your call on when to decide if you should give up on this and revert to Win7 or earlier.

Make sure that you have ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips there (and several reboots) to get them all. This is very important if this is a compatibility issue.

There is this error in Device Manager:

So I just bought this laptop, and I installed windows 7, and it should have Intel HD Graphics 5500 + nVidia Geforce 920M 1GB. However, I cant find nVidia Geforce, and when I try to install driver, it says that driver cant find the hardware. Also, when I open device manager, I do not have nVidia under Display adapters section, only Intel HD Graphics 5500. Anyone knows whats up here? I have seen many solutions that involve changing .inf files but I cant even see the nVidia so that does not work for me.

If I manually install the video driver from the XFX video card CD ROM it works; however, if I then go to the nVidia site and attempt to install the latest driver I get the Blue screen of death and system will attempt to continuously reboot.

This might be a stupid question but can a monitor cause your system to BSOD. Because I think my LCD is causing my nvidia drivers to BSOD my windows 7 system.

I purchased a new motherboard, memory, and video card recently. So far the system was working fine for about a week when recently it started giving BSODing me with the nvlddmkm.sys error for my nvidia drivers. I tried to solve the problem but ended up just reformatting and doing a new installation of Win7 64 and even then the same BSOd would come and go. I thought it might be improper nvidia driver installation over the ones installed during setup or a defective video card. It was only after a few tries that I began to see a pattern and it involved my use of monitors. The last time I installed windows I was using an old CRT VGA monitor I have lying around that I use in my workshop when fixing things because I don't have the space at my desk where my LCD is. The system worked fine with the old CRT and then put everything back together checked it one last time then moved it back to my desk and hooked up my LCD via DVI...the BSOD came back. I have the details of the BSOD below and the minidump attached to this thread came someone make anything of this it would be really appreciated! Thanks

The Tests

Card1: EVGA GeForce GTX 260 PCIe

LCD VGA: Works!
CRT VGA: Works!

Card2: XFX GeForce 8800GT PCIe

LCD VGA: Works!
CRT VGA: Works!

is this possible?

If you got any CD with that LCD, install its driver. Windows by default when it detects a new monitor it will install the Generic drivers. You should install the correct driver from your CD

Hey everyone,

Yesterday I experienced my first BSOD on my ASUS K52Jc laptop, running Windows 7, the BSOD was completely random.

After restarting itself, the resolution was reset to 800x600 (or the default, something along those lines). After logging in, Windows reinstalled the Display Driver - Intel(R) HD Graphics, which thus fixed my resolution problem, however the nVIDIA GeForce 310M driver was not working. I know this by checking the Device Manager, not located there, and the nVIDIA Control Panel does not work, as my computer says I dont have the graphics card.

Thus, I attempted to install the latest three versions of the driver (from both ASUS and nVIDIA websites), however each time I received an error prior to the installation, something along the lines of not being compatible with my system. I also attempted several system restores back to previous dates.

Does anyone have a possible solution to my problem, as my last resort will be sending it to ASUS for repair, which is unwanted as I am approaching exams. It is bareable without nVIDIA function, but not ideal.

If you need more info on anything, including system specs just let me know.

-64-bit Win 7
-ASUS K52Jc (i5)

NOTE: Both the Intel(R) HD Graphics and nVIDIA GeForce 310M were functioning and installed prior to the BSOD

A:nVIDIA Driver not working after BSOD

Silly answer But.... Are you installing the correct driver for your OS and not The same driver for another OS

Edit: Just to let you know you may have answered your own question you actual NVIDIA card may be the reason you had the BSOD infact if that's whats not responding id say it pretty much is the reason.

What NVIDIA do you have and is the computer showing you have the card you need to install drivers?

Little bit more info ? Laptop specs? graphics?
