F-Secure Internet Security 2016 VS Norton Security 2016

Q: F-Secure Internet Security 2016 VS Norton Security 2016

Hello,

If you had to choose an antivirus, which you will take between two? And why ?

Thank you and good holidays!

A: F-Secure Internet Security 2016 VS Norton Security 2016

In my opinion, Norton gives you a better protection. He has SONAR( Behavior protection), very good feature.
Fsecure uses Bitdefender engine but isn't the best AV according AV Comparatives.
Norton is light, has strong firewall, good signatures and cloud reputation + Sonar protection for zero-day threats.

I understand its Free vs Paid product comparision but anyway

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

hello , i just want to know in Behavior Blocker , Norton is better? or Kaspersky is better ?

thanks friends

A:[Behavior Blocker] Norton Security vs Kaspersky Internet Security 2016

As for Kaspersky, I have not used it since about 2009 when it was Kaspersky PURE so I cannot really comment. But as for Norton, it blocks unknown files it doesn't have a HIPS as such but any program being stupid of trying to access websites and files they shouldn't get blocked by SONAR their zero-day and zero-hour malware component.

I have recently bought a new laptop and I installed norton security standard version no backup
And yesterday I got a new license from the avast giveaway that was posted here on MT
I like how little impact has norton on my system but I don't know if it is good enough for detecting PUP and PUA, and this system might not be always connected to the internet (around 80% of the time),
so do you guys think that avast is a better solution or should I keep norton

A:Avast internet security 2016 vs Norton security standard

I vote for Norton.
If you change SONAR to agressive you will have better protection against zero-day threats even offline.( despite Sonar requires on-line connection for better heuristic real-time protection. )
Norton is lighter, Its improved performace and, I think if you are 80%of the time not connectec to internet, norton gives you a very good layer of protection

Now! ESET has just released their newest security suite: ESET Smart Security 9 (2016 Edition). These products are on the top of security suites which are produced by giants on security companies. Most of them released 2016 editions of their products. I want to compare on their newest products with new features (such as on ESET: Banking Protection, Bitdefender: Ransomware Protection and new Firewall, etc...) and some enhanced features.

And now, which is your choose for your security? Please let me know your opinion!

its hard choice choose between Eset,Kaspersky and Emsisoft.
in fact i never test Eset 2016, but i tested kaspersky and Emsisoft, Kaspersky 2016 really go lighter than Emsisoft(now i am Emsisoft useres)

I have to decide which to choose from. Since my friend is giving me additional license for F-Secure since he recently bought 3 keys which unfortunately has no reason to use the other 2, so he said he'll give me one once I bought a new laptop, but my new laptop came with a free 1 year free subscription for McAfee internet security. So I have a dillema on which to use first. Should I use McAfee or accept my friend's giveaway.

PS: The McAfee that came with my brand new laptop isn't pre installed. They just gave me this prepaid card I think which says OEM card. And the card says I have to activate the key first on McAfee website before I could use it. Second, I used the 6th month trial of Mcafee on my desktop. Tried it for a few months, then uninstalled it because it slowed my PC down. I think the trial now is expired so I can't try it on my laptop first.

A:F-Secure SAFE vs Mcafee Internet Security 2016

Prepare for the mcafee hate storm.

So in order to prevent such thing ill lay the terms now.
Please only discuss good points of one or another solution. Any post that represents solely mcafee hate will be deleted.

I personally used mcafee and see no problem with it. Fsecure however did cause me some slight slow downs but both are good and have decent protection.

If you have one year then use that. If you have two systems then use both mcafee and fsecure.

A:Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 vs Avast! Internet Security 2016

If you have the money to purchase it, I would strongly recommend Kaspersky Internet Security 2016.
Overall, Kaspersky might not be as user friendly (many alerts when properly configured) and as light as Avast (Kaspersky always was a little hoggy, although that has been mostly fixed in the recent versions), however the security components of KIS are much more mature and powerful (when properly configured) than those of AIS.

In conclusions, if you have capable computer hardware and you don't mind a little bit of configuration and quite a few alerts, I would definitely recommend KIS.
If you believe that KIS might be too heavy for your system, and that you do not really visit suspicious sites and download suspicious applications, then I'd recommend AIS.

The new version of Norton 2016 still not here, but there are new posts on shady websites, which offer a chance to download the new Norton Internet Security 2016.
The fake Norton Internet Security 2016 has over 9 thousand downloads, and the exact number of victims is not known. The link takes users to download unwanted software, when the site promises exclusive access to Norton Internet Security 2016 file. Even if you regret, and you no longer wish to download the file, it's still hard to cancel the download process.

So far, no one gets to download Norton Internet Security 2016, which is still in the works by symantec.
A similar website takes users to download malware under ?Norton Internet Security 2016?.

We recommend that you keep your security software up to date, and download your product only from the manufacturer's official links.

If you come from Bitdefender then I would recommend you KIS2016, quite light; very effective. ESET is also a good option, Emsisoft same stuff. If you like smooth and less interactive protection ESET and Kaspersky would be better, Emsisoft is cool but a bit more interactive IMO.

Earlier I was using Bitdefender and thought Bitdefender was the number 1 and Kaspersky is the number 2. But After coming to this forum I realized that the reality is completely different! Some products have trouble working with Windows 10, some have trouble protecting 64bit systems. I did some digging and settled with two products. Kaspersky and ESET. Im using a Windows 10 64 bit system. What product might be the best for such a setup?

A:ESET Smart Security 9 vs Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 for Win 10 64bit

For purely protection basis you may go to ESET SS 9 as you can tweak the HIPS for protection and their Sandbox (Banking) + so far the architecture (x64) isn't affected from performance.

KIS 2016 is a promising suite, however until now limited components working from prevention due to Windows 10 environment which the developers make a note to fix those issues; but overall a balance concept where you can tweak more from numerous components.

Somehow the system impact tends to be consistent as light for ESET than Kaspersky.

Still brace yourself to see those possible unique characteristics.

Hi,

Well I want to know is Comodo Internet Security 8 or Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 better?

A:Comodo Internet Security 8 VS Kaspersky Internet Security 2016

Despite one being paid only and the other free solution, if you can have even trial versions of Kaspersky, then comparison can be done as follow:

KIS has a very good selection of under the hood protection even on default settings, so it works out of the box. Comodo on the other hand has good tools as well but requires manual configuration on settings to even come close to Kaspersky.

In terms of AV, KIS is known for its signatures and removal processes. Comodo on the other hand has always focused on Prevention over Detection.

User friendliness, both are fine at first look but when you start to dig into the options, both can be daunting.

So if you have the option to use KIS, then I recommend KIS.

If you do not and you are just an average user/casual user, perhaps another free solution will do you better.

Edit: forgot to mention: Kaspersky does have a small boot time impact compared to Comodo but it is basically negligible.

The Good
It's available for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices. The interface blends well with the Windows 10 look and its options are easy to find. Any module can be disabled and tiles can be removed from the console.

The parental control and firewall components worked smoothly in our tests. The data shield immediately reacted when unknown programs tried to access the protected folders.

It has a comprehensive help manual that explains most parts of the program.

The Bad
As previously mentioned, Panda shows a notification message for the data shield module whenever an unknown application tries to access the protected directories, and it asks you what to do: allow or deny. However, although it doesn't inform you of this, it remembers the choice you make for that process, adds it to the permissions list, and sets its permission type. This means that it will automatically allow or deny access to that program whenever it tries to access the protected folders, until you go to the console panel to revert settings. In other words, Panda doesn't implement two options in the tray message for allowing/denying access only once and always.
The application control module worked well in our tests when denying access to programs that were on the list. However, it didn't prompt us for action whenever an unknown application tried to run, and it didn't deny access when we asked it to do this automatically, except in one case: when we tried opening Panda's vi... An Excellent Choice
Kaspersky Internet Security (2016) is an all-around great security suite. The independent labs praise its antivirus protection to the skies, its firewall does the job without hassling the user, and its spam filter is more accurate than most. Even the parental control component boasts more features than most suites offer. Powerful remote management is icing on the cake. Kaspersky is a PCMag Editors' Choice security suite, sharing that honor with Bitdefender Internet Security 2015.

A Sweet Suite
Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 has everything you'd want in a suite, and more. Its antivirus gets stellar scores in our tests and lab tests, and its antispam beat out all competitors for accuracy. The firewall doesn't attempt fancy exploit blocking, but it's tough and hassle-free. Add features like ransomware protection, password management, and secure browsing, and you've got a suite with power to spare.

Along with Kaspersky Internet Security (2016), Bitdefender is a security suite Editors' Choice. Other products have earned the Editors' Choice rating for different variations on the security suite concept. In particular, McAfee LiveSafe 2015 and Symantec Norton Security are our Editors' Choice products for cross-platform multi-device security.

Hi:

Thanks for posting.

I'm not shilling for KL or anything...

For the record, that KB article is > 1 month old (and predates patch (a), I think).
And lots of folks have upgraded to KIS/KAV/KTS 2017 under RS1 without issue.
BUT BUT Patch (b) has been in beta-testing for > 1 week, and is supposed to fix most of these issues:
https://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=356039

I guess it's sort of like AU/RS1 itself: you'll have either no problems or some problems.

Having said that, I lean a bit closer to the cautious Luddite side than to the adventurous "bleeding edge" side of things.
So, I am still on Win10 1511 and KIS 2016 for a while longer.
At my age, I like to take things slow and steady....

Cheers,

The Good:
The firewall quickly reacted to events.

AVG Internet Security light on system resources, even during scans.

We haven't noticed compatibility issues with Windows 10.

It features a self-protection module against hijackers.

It contains numerous advanced configuration settings for expert users.

The Bad:
We haven't noticed any significant changes compared to the 2015 edition of AVG Internet Security.

Casual users will have a hard time discovering how to configure the advanced settings.

We expected better malware detection results.

The automatic response was late in our tests (at file launch).

A:AVG Internet Security 2016 Review - New Edition, Same AV with Windows 10 Support

I do not entirely agree with this article , regarding that they did not notice any differences between the 2015 and 2016 version. here is the official changelog between those two. ofcourse nothing is perfect and they still need a lot of work to do , before they can make their bold statement true ''' AVG wants to become the best av in the industry "
changelog 2016 build 7161 :
BETTER MALWARE PROTECTION

AVG now protects your PC from even the newest malware regardless whether you've got the latest virus database installed. This works thanks to:

REAL-TIME OUTBREAK DETECTION
We've added crowd intelligence to our existing cloud-based Outbreak Detection technology to identify even the newest malware variants and outbreaks in real-time.

AI DETECTION
Uses advanced artificial intelligence on your PC to proactively identify malware samples that haven't yet been catalogued by our AVG ThreatLabs team.
AI Detection is being constantly trained through telemetry data from our users.

IMPROVED ONLINE SHIELD
We've improved this feature with cloud-based detection to identify dangerous downloads faster than ever.

WINDOWS 10 SUPPORT
AVG has worked on Microsoft's latest operating system from day 1.

SMB SUPPORT
AVG again supports remote administration of stations with SMB licenses.

OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
New setup for all applications: faster and easier navigation, attractive graphic design.

My f secure IS subscription is just about to over and i am looking for new antivirus.I won't be using f secure IS again as it has pathetic parental control,it keeps on blocking legitimate websites..

I found out bullguard Internet security and ESET smart security v9 to be good option for me as they are less resource hungry and prices are also less.

But confused which one to choose. Can you please provide me with your views regarding which AV i should choose.

A:Bullguard inyernet security 2016 vs ESET Smart security V9

Most Internet Security products include anti-virus and firewall protection plus various other features depending on the software vendor...and for those reasons it is called a Security suite.I'm not an advocate of suites. All-in-one tools and suites are filled with extra features (including "bells & whistles") which typically use more system resources than separate programs that do the same task while other suites leave a much smaller footprint. Suites tend to have varying degrees of strengths and weaknesses accorded for each feature they incorporate. Internet Security Suites include a Firewall component, which IMO is unnecessary since the Windows built-in firewall is one of the best and provides adequate protection. Further, many folks also use a router which is essentially a hardware firewall. In contrast, separate tools are designed, built and maintained with a greater focus in a specific area so they are generally of better quality and more effective at what they are designed to do. This means the program's performance for that particular feature is usually superior than their all-in-one counterpart. Further, all-in-one tools generally do not allow the user as much flexibility in tailoring program settings and usage.HTG Explains: Why You Don’t Need a Full Internet Security SuiteIf you are adamant about using a suite, then I would recommend one of the following:Emsisoft Internet SecurityESET Smart SecurityKaspersky Internet SecuritySee my comments at the bottom of ... Kapersky Internet Security 2016 offers a great level of protection on its default settings. However, there are a few settings which you can change to increase even more the protection offered by Kapersky Internet Security 2016.

This guide should also cover Kaspersky Total Security 2016, and some settings should apply to Kaspersky Antivirus 2016.

1. Enable "System Changes Control" to block changes to operating system and web browser settings
If the web browser start page or the default search engine has changed without your intention, it might be activity of an adware or malware. In some cases, such changes are caused by add-ons that come with software you install (for example, with media players or instant messengers). Sometimes system settings are affected by malicious scripts that could have reached your computer through insecure websites.

With System Changes Control in Kaspersky Internet Security 2016, you can trace and block unwanted changes to the system settings.
Open Settings menu in KIS 2016 by clicking the gear icon in the lower left part of the user interface.

In the Settings window, go to Protection and select System Changes Control.

In the component settings view, make sure the component is enabled (the switch on the right must be On). You will be prompted for action whenever a suspicious change of settings is detected.
Select the check box Block changes automatically if you want Kaspersky Internet Security to dec... Read more

Avast Internet Security 2016 offers a great level of protection on its default settings. However, there are a few settings which you can change to increase even more the protection offered by Avast Internet Security 2016.
This guide should also cover Avast Premium 2016, and some settings should apply to Avast Free 2016.

1. Enable Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP's) detection
A PUP (potentially unwanted program) is a program that may be unwanted, such as spyware, despite the possibility that users consented to download it. This usually includes: toolbars, browser hijackers or adware (ad-supported software)

Open Avast, then click on Settings (gear icon)

In the "General" tab, select "Scan for potentially unwanted software (PUPs)".

2. Enable Avast Hardened Mode
Hardened Mode is designed to make protection tougher without interfering with the computer usage much.
Avast by default checks suspicious files with DeepScreen within virtual environment to see how they behave. But if you use Hardened Mode, it starts to behave a bit differently.

Hardened Mode: Moderate
Under normal conditions, if Avast decides that some file is too suspicious by various characteristics, it then throws it into the DeepScren for further scanning. But if Moderate Hardened Mode is enabled, Avast automatically blocks files that are detected as suspicious by preliminary analysis.
In most cases DeepScreen checks the file and if it doesn't... Read more

Which would be better for zero day malware protection and signatures: Avast Internet Security 2016 Or Avira+ Comodo firewall

Avira + Comodo firewall is almost unbreakable. Best signatures and best proactive for zero day malwares.

A:Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

In terms of UI, all 3 are user friendly.

OK, this is the system setup. The computer, an HP Pavillion all-in-one is only about 2 months old, and I'm trying to bolster the defenses so it will continue to last for another 10-15 years.

It's tempting to just buy every security product I can find, but that's probably overkill, and almost certainly there will be conflicts.

I almost always browse the internet in a Sandboxie browser. I've been looking at adding Shadow Defender to the lineup as well.

I don't do any gaming, but I'm guilty of downloading the occasional file via qbittorrent. It downloads to the sandbox, where I scan it with MBAM before recovering.

I have no idea where to start for mobile security on my Android phone and my Kindle Fire HD.

I've already had to reinstall Windows once due to a Windows update that made booting up impossible. Very annoying, and very time-consuming to restore everything, especially with a newborn in the house. I would really like to avoid that again so I'm looking hard for a good backup system.

I humbly submit all this to the glorious experts of this web forum. If I left out any info, or am not being clear about something, please ask. I'm a novice in the security world.

Thanks in advance.

What Is this?

March Madness is a basketball tournament where 32 teams are pitted against each other in a bracket format. Security Madness will pit 12 security products which I will review against each other to give the places running.

Note: This bracket was randomly matched, with the exception of the top 4 most praised security products on MalwareTips, which earns a by during the second round:

If you want to suggest another product, tell it to me so if we hit 12 suggestions there will be an alternate security madness.

So Let's Get Started, shall we?

Match 1: Sophos Home v. Trend Micro AV.

Period 1: Performance (8 points)

Sophos Home excels in this field, running smoothly without any interruption or freezing- not even a change in performance! Trend Micro- although doesn't do poorly in this round, did have a little bit of performance change. This could be touch, but Sophos Home gains 8 points.

8 v. 0

Period 2: Security (10 points)

Sophos Home is a lightweight cloud-based scanner, while Trend Micro is a conventional AV with much more detection and protection as resulted from testing. Again, it's a close call but this time Trend Micro takes home 10 points and the lead by 2.

10 v. 8
Period 3: UI (5 points)

Trend Micro definitely takes this field by a long shot. Its modern interface may not satisfy everybody, but I found it easier than Sophos Home's unusable interface. The UAC prompt was shown every time I wanted to open the UI, and the optio... Read more

Timeline:

2007 - 2009 - Kaspersky PURE
2009 - September 2015 - Avast! Free Antivirus
September 2015 - December 2015 - Avast! Internet Security
December 2015 - January 2016 - Qihoo 360 Total Security
February 2016 - Present - Norton Security

Security software I have used in my lifetime (in order of how I like them 1-5)

Top five (names may have changed, here's what they were called when I used them):
1.) Symantec Norton Security
2.) Avira Free Anti-Virus
3.) Qihoo 360 Total Security
4.) Kaspersky PURE
5.) Avast! Internet Security /Avast! Free Anti-Virus

Others:

AVG Free Anti-Virus (really heavy on the system when I used it.)

Windows Defender
ESET NOD32
IObit Malware Fighter (when I knew nothing about security, it corrupted my system!!)

Nice security setup.

Have a backup plan is essential to ensure data and PC security.
The best thing is to create a system image that can be restored in a few minutes to protect the personal information and the operating system from serious errors and/or malware infections.

Heyo, not sure if there's any conflict between AVAST and MBAM. Maybe consider removing one or the other and replace it with an anti-executable? Enable OS File Reputation, as it's a critical security component of Windows 10. Leave the rest for others, thanks for sharing.

Even though Avira Browser is at Beta, it seems having a sandbox feature is too way common and a must for every products.
