Hi all,

I'm looking to build a PC for a friend of mine. He will use it primarily for gaming, but he is on a budget.. would like to play all modern games, but want to keep it under $1000. Last time I built a computer was about five years ago, so I'm definitely out of the loop when it comes to latest hardware... would such thing even be possible?

Any suggestions on configuration? Many thanks!!!

I own a PC with the following specs presently:
Motherboard - Intel D945GCR, Processors - Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz, 3000 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s),Graphics Card - Nvidia Geforce GT430, RAM - 2GB DDR2, SMPS - Intex 400W
I am planning to upgrade my PC after six long years to be able to play games like Max Payne3, Far Cry3, Crysis3 etc. in high graphics settings without any hitch.I am not looking to upgrade again after this for another 3-4 years. What will be the best configuration for me within a budget of around Rs.30000?

A:Best PC configuration for gaming within Rs.30000/-

You will probably have to start from scratch for the most part. You can probably reuse things like: keyboard, mouse,HDD ,monitor and your optical drive. However, to get to the performance you want. You will need a new MOBO,CPU,GPU and PSU. If you could tell me where you would possibly be buying these parts. I could try and help configure the build for you. Since, I am not familiar with your currency. I have no idea where to look for parts for you.

Where will you be purchasing the parts from? Flipkart? Also, it my be hard to build a PC in that price range when you are buying in Rupees. The costs will be inflated due to imports and such.

Guys,I asked this question just out of curisioty.I want to know that what would be the world most powerful gaming pc.Budget is unlimited cause we no one getting to buy it .But the config would be in 2 types 1.Normal which is not OC'ED.The speed, memory speed provided by vendor. 2.This is OC'ED version of pc.any thing can be oc even if mouse, monitor, keyboard, speaker(I know it can't be done) :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: Conditions: 1.should have everything which a gaming pc have even headphone, casing, speaker, keyboard, mouse, pad etc 2.No SLI /CROSSFIRE.Just only 1 gpu phiscally . 3.We want performance not brand names. We all gaming people want to know that. :bounce: :bounce: Thanks

Hi everyone
I'm Indrashis,I live in Kolkata(India) and I want to build a midrange gaming rig for around 26000-30000 rupees.
I have keyboards and mouse and a 16inch LCD monitor so i wont be buying those things and i will be playing Crysis,COD 6,Metro 2033 etc games.
(Also I want to have DDR3 RAM in my rig)
Please suggest accordingly.

A:System configuration for mid-budget gaming pc

Hi Indrashis95. Welcome to Techspot.

With a budget of around 30K INR you'll have to make do with an AMD dual or triple core system.

Look into the Phenom II X2 555 BE or if you can find the Phenom II X3 720. Any board with an AMD 770 / 870 chipset should do fine. You might be able to squeeze in the Phenom II X4 925 if you find a cheap enough motherboard.

As you'll be gaming on a 16" monitor I assume that your resolution will not exceed 1280x1024. A Radeon HD 5770 will be more than enough. In fact you could even consider the cheaper HD 4770 / 4850 for your system.

A 2x2GB DDR3 kit will do good. A good quality 450W PSU (with sufficient amps on the 12V rails) should run the system.

Just hunt around for the best possible prices. The vendors here are usually out to fleece you.

Incidentally, I'm also from Kolkata.

OK, I'll give a brief overview of what I'm working with and then describe my problem. I have a relatively new notebook (bought it about 2 months ago, I wouldn't think the exact specs are necessary but if they are let me know), a DSL connection and I have a Linksys Wireless-G router.

I've attempted to play two games online with a friend (Age of Empires 3 and Diablo 2), both of which resulted in nothing by headaches. In both games we attempted to directly connect to each other via IP. He also has a notebook and is using a wireless router. We've tried it both ways; me trying to connect to him and vice versa, same problem both times.

Now, I don't know a whole lot of anything about networking and routers and the such, but I'll put in what I do know. When I try hosting a Direct IP game, both games listed an IP at the top of the screen, but it wasn't my IP, it was what I think is called the local IP? It's 192.168.1.1; now I know that's the address to the router and if I type that in my browser address bar I can access the router's configuration and all that good stuff. I also noticed that if i go to that address one of the options under the router configuration is "Applications and Gaming". When I go there it lists a bunch of stuff about opening ports and triggering ports and some other stuff that I've never heard of.

I've talked to a few people and they tell me that I would need to open certain ports and... Read more

Hi. I have no more ideas on what to try next. Any help greatly appreciated. My laptop is running Windows 7 Professional 32bit and is fully patched. The Ethernet adapter (Marvell Yukon 88E8055) is enabled and the wireless adapter (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) disabled (via software and the hardware switch). Symantec Endpoint Protection provides AV/security (via group policy). It is highly likely the problem was self inflicted and not caused by a virus / malware.I use the cisco VPN client and wanted to upgrade it (a reinstall may have been sufficient but as I was going to the bother I thought I would upgrade) as I was having some annoying timeouts when using the client immediately after logging into my desktop.I started by removing the existing (old version 5.0.05.0290). During the removal the screen went black and the laptop was not responding; ie I couldnt get the screen to wake up. I ended up powering off by holding the power button for 5 secs. On reboot, it appeared that the old vpnclient (5.0.05.0290) had been removed and everything else was functioning as normal. So I tried to install the new version (5.0.07.0410).The vpn setup program gets as far as "Installing Network Components" and produces error "Error 27854. I've got an issue with my laptop which I think suggests a configuration issue with my network card. I can access the internet and pinging external websites and other computers on the network work fine. However certain programs (e.g. certain google desktop gadgets, winamp and other background programs) can't access the internet. Other google desktop gadgets can (gmail notifier). My desktop connected on the same network (and location) works absolutely fine, no problems.

The Laptop has been connected to a university network before (and been connected to networks in other countries) but I've only been noticing these problems since connecting it to my home network.

Checking ipconfig /all I fixed the fact that is was on a peer-peer node, but apart from that I'm lost.

Desktop: Win XP Professional SP2
Laptop: Win XP Home Edition SP2

Any help would be great!

Hello all,

I own a 2004 Dell Dimension desktop. It's been down for a few years since I now own a newer laptop, but recently I decided to bring it back to life. I've gone through many upgrades and problem so far, but come out on top each time. My most recent problem, however, is my wireless network. I just reinstalled xp, on a new hard drive actually, and this installation was done through the discs that came with the computer. When I started the computer up everything went well, everything looked great except for my internet. I still have not been able to get my internet to work. I've done many many things to try, exploring network settings, the network wizard and such things. Under my network connection I see no icons or networks showing up, and when I try to set up a new connection it says it does not detect the hardware (I don't remember exactly under what this is). I've posted about it before, but any simple explanation people have given hasn't fixed or worked so far. Until a few minutes ago, I thought it was my network adaptor, which is an internal adaptor. A spark just went off in my head though, it can't be my adaptor because I have ubuntu installed on my external hard drive, running through this computer, and the internet connects automatically to my house network through that. Another large this I've seen is under device manager, I don't see anything about my network card there or adaptor. I see under other devices tab to things t... Read more

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I think that you do not have the network and wireless drivers installed as they are showing up in other drivices.
Ubuntu may be loading some built in drivers and that may be why you have Internet access through it.

Please post the model number of your laptop so that we can link you to the correct drivers on the Dell website.

I have a school laptop and for some reason I have problems using proxy's and using programs that require opened ports, even if it says its open.

I was thinking of configuring windows, a while ago I found a program that automatically configured windows xp for a specific connection. Maybe someone here knows anything similar.

Or does anyone know different ways of opening ports? (excluding routers, I have this problem even without a router). I configured the windows xp firewall even though its disabled and I don't think I have any other firewalls blocking it, I was just hoping that it's some sort of windows xp settings that if changed, could give everything a boot.

I am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my desktop (home) and Windows 7 x64 Pro on my laptops. I bring my personal laptop to work which I use for emails and browsing. There is sensitive information that I would not like to share for obvious reasons. I am running into a problem making sure the information is not in "shared" mode while at work. Work has their own network, which I am unable to connect to because the Sys Admin is lazy and will won't provide me a VPN connection directly to the system. So what I have done is use the public WiFi that we make available to our customers and connect through my own VPN off the public WiFi system. I want to make sure that I am not inadvertently sharing documents or other information doing so. When I connect to the network at work I use the "Public" setting. What settings do you recommend?

What makes it more difficult is I have a similar situation at home, in which we have one internet connection through a router coming in and several people use the system. The location of the router is actually upstairs where I do not have access to, I use a Netgear WNR2000 v2 (I rent out rooms in my house), so I am forced to connect to the router wireless. I personally am not a gamer, but one of the tenants is. I almost always use my VPN service at home to connect, but I am unsure if this is the correct set-up. I don't want to share my printers, video, etc. with everyone in the house. I am using Norton 360 for protection with Firewal... Read more

I am having problems connecting to the internet. Windows Network Dignostics is indicating that my network adapter "Local Area Connection" is not configured to use the IP protocol. It also indicated that the "Realtek PCIe GBC Family Controller" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues and that I should ensure the IP bindings are correct. To ensure that the "IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and IP version 6 (TCP/IPv6) are selected in the configuration for the network adapter "Local Area Connection", they are selected. When reviewing the adapter in device manager, it indicates that the device is working properly and that the lastest driver is being used - Driver version dated 9/02/09 - 6.227.902.2009. My connections was working on 12/24/09. I installed a windows update on 12/24/09, service pack 212 24 2009 that appears to have loaded some system 32 drivers (KB917607) in addition to win32 help.exe. I restarted my computer on 12/26/09 and have not had internet connection since. I also tried attaching a D-link wireless connection which the computer recognizes and indicated taht I have a wireless connection but I am still not connecting to the internet. I am using my laptop to access using the wireless. Can someone help

Last week I was running a peer to peer network with Win98/Win2K/etc boxes like this:

Cable Modem ---› Win2K Server (2 Nics) ---› Switch ---› PCs on p2p network (Netbui and TCP/IP)

I had a cheesey SW "firewall" on the internet server and decided I needed some real security so I bought a Compaq CP-2E Router/Firewall. Now my configuration is like this:

Cable Modem ---› Router/Firewall ---› Win2K Server (2 Nics) ---› Switch ---› PCs on p2p

The problem is that to enable an FTP or even a simple game server on my Win2K box so it can be seen from the internet, I supposedly need to enable DMZ on the Router/Firewall which effectively eliminates the firewall. I ran network vulnerability checks and the PCs are completely exposed when DMZ is enabled. The gameserver does not show on Gamespy like it does without the firewall. I also tried opening only the port for that gamer server (Medal of Honor port: UDP 12203) but it still won't show on Gamespy. (Note that the game server is only a test so I know I have it right before I build a Linux FTP server.)

I tried the following configuration but it doesn't work:

Cable Modem ---› Win2K Server (2 Nics) ---› Router/Firewall ---› Switch --› PCs on p2p

I would like to expose the Win2K server to the world and don't care much about security on it. (There are no files of consequence and I'm running NTFS) The internal PCs, however, need to be protected. hacking a Win2K box is hard enough, but getting throug... Read more

This my first time on this forum, so firstly hello to everyone.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to network configuration, but I have managed to get through what I have needed previously. My previous configuration was similar to the attached but I simply used an ethernet modem in lieu of the sky modem/router and everything worked fine at that point. I have recently changed my ISP to Sky, who have provided their own modem/router (albeit this is actually a Netgear unit) and say they do not support 3rd party modems - all my problems started here.....

I have attached the configuration that I would like to use in order to connect everything that I have. It is worth noting that my master phone socket is located in the cellar along with the Sky modem/router, which is hard wired with a 30m Cat 5E cable to the 2nd netgear router on the 1st floor. From here my other components (desk-top, printer and network hard-drive are all hard wired and within 4m of the 2nd Netgear router.

My problem seems to be the configuration of the Sky and Netgear routers and their incapability to communicate with each other via the ethernet cable. I can connect the laptops wirelessly to the Sky modem/router and have full internet access, however I cannot access the local services such as the printer etc. Similarly, I can connect the laptops wirelessly to the 2nd netgear router and access all of the local services with no problems but cannot access the internet from there.

I'm sure that I have... Read more

A:Home Network Configuration

Perhaps Johnwill will post it here but look up this forum for his Connecting 2 SOHO routers posts he does (he does this quite frequently) now the main thing to remember is the wireless won't be transparent between the 2 routers as they are 2 different access points.

Essentially the second netgear (non sky) has to be turned from a router to a switch with an wireless access point. this will allow all PC's to exist on one network (with 2 routers your have 2 networks going on) and allow all to intercommunicate and get out to the internet.

Hi all

1st of all I'm new here my name is Alan, I'm a computer technician and own a computer shop, and am happy to be here.

2nd, I would like your advice since I'm not a pro when it compes to networking so here goes:

I get internet through LAN (PPPOE) to my computer1.
Then using a crossover cable computer1 is linked to computer2 for file sharing and internet connection sharing.

I would like to know what would be the safest way to isolate, or maybe secure my file sharing between computer1 and computer2 from the rest of the network. Private is not an otion since it already caused me much troubles when reinstalling windows.

Thx in advance

1. The Network Map (Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> See Full Map) shows a device chain of PC -> WRT54G2 -> Gateway -> Internet (which is correct). However, when I right-click on the Gateway, it shows two devices: Actiontec M1000 and Actiontec TR64 M1000. This makes absolutely no sense to me.

Windows may be trying to understand your Actiontec the only way it can and given it's a modem AND a router (and can be one but not the other, as well) It may have two technical names?

See answer #1. 4b may be router, 4c may be modem?

3. Running 'ipconfig /all' reports the primary DNS Server is 192.168.0.1 (the gateway) and the secondary DNS Server as one of the ISP's DNS servers. When I run an 'nslookup' on a domain name, I always get two 'DNS request timed out' errors (presumably from the gateway) before it returns the addresses (presumably from the ISP's DNS server). I don't understand why the gateway is being set as a DNS server rather than the ISP's DNS servers which are normally set via DHCP.

Does anyone have a clue what would cause these oddities?

Hi,

I have a server that when I go into the Network and Sharing Center I see 1.jpg. I'd expect to see something similar to 2.jpg. Does anybody know what might be causing this?

The reason I ask is that although my settings seem to be configured correctly I am having problems connecting to the internet with the first server.

Cheers

Two days ago in the evening, my computer that always used network 2 made a network 3 that included the neighbor's computer and there was extreme lag.

Even after they're gone, there's still some lag, and whether network 2 or 3 is active varies per start up. The way the network looks keeps changing randomly across the night :

Sometimes it can't detect them at all :

This next one is closest to how it used to be, except without the question mark, having a tower instead :

Currently it is this the third one down again.

Several of these have the modem type also listed at the bottom of the page as hardware it can't identify.

The BRCM one is the only one I can click to get to the normal IP adres of the modem.

I can't access the IP address of the others, which leads to this :

I suspect I've been hacked, which would explain the lagging in the evening. What I don't get is why the network keeps changing, and what I can do about any of this.

I was asked this question in class and I'm not sure if I gave the right answer or not.

Company with 50 (max) different locations.
1 Head Office and 1 Store House
Each location has a static IP address.
Each location has max 13 PCs in the internal network.

Locations need to be able to connect via VPN thus have the same Sub Net:
I’m thinking (IP) Class B/ (SN) 255.255.255.128 – giving me 126 IPs/SN to work with just in case all locations connect to one location at the same time.
Q1: is this SN a good choice?

For the internal network at each location:

Internet

Router
• Public IP (Static)
• Private IP 172.16.0.1 / SN 255.255.255.128

Firewall with 2 NIC
• Router facing NIC – IP 172.16.0.2/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.1
• LAN facing NIC – IP 172.16.0.10/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
Hub/Switch
Data Server IP 172.16.10.1/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
File Server IP 172.16.10.2/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2

Switch / Switches
PC1
PC2
PC3
Etc
IP adds 172.16.20.x/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
Q2: Is this the right configuration? If not what should I change?
Q3: Recommended OS for Firewall, Server 1 and Server 2.
Q4:Recommended hardware for Routers/Switches

Our network consists of 3 Desktops, all Windows 7 Home Premium, and one printer, using ATT DSL. It's presently wired through a 2Wire 2701 BHG wireless router modem/combo. It works well, when wired, but is the older G type. The upgrade plan is to use a TP-Link TD-8816 modem/router combo configured as the modem and a Netgear WNR2000 modem/router combo configured as the router, will it work and will it work with ATT. How should the TD-8816 be configured for modem only and the Netgear WNR2000 for router only. My research indicates it can be done but the manuals are impossible. FYI, Dumped my wireless due to slow speed and constant drop offs. ATT was no help. Thanks for your input.

A:Wired network configuration help.

It's very much possible. The modem shouldn't need any configuration, it's the Netgear device that just needs configuring. You'd need access the Netgear device's config settings via Ethernet and change the IP address of it, disable the DHCP server on it as only one DHCP server should be running on the network, which you want your modem to be. Connect the Netgear device to the modem via Ethernet, and configure the SSID to be the same on both devices.

When you set up the router's IP address, keep it out of range of the modem's DHCP server, so duplicate IP addresses won't be given out, for example your modem's IP is 192.168.1.1, so the first IP it gives out on the network will be 192.168.1.2. Setup the Netgear router's IP address to be 192.168.1.99, to keep it out of the IP pool of the modem.

Does anyone know where in Windows XP the individual wireless networks' configuration information is stored?

Here's how puzzled I am. I was trying to connect to a public AP in my college's library. At first it worked fine. Then it stopped working for anyone. I tried to connect again while someone else monitored the network traffic and found out that my MAC address was probing for four other networks. I deleted all my preferred wireless networks, but my computer was still looking for these networks. The configuration information has to be somewhere else, I wish I knew where so I could delete it.

Hello all!

I've had this problem since I bought a new desktop PC with windows 7 installed. Every once in a while my internet stops working (router+modem) and a yellow exclamation mark appears. When I use the windows solution utility I get two different messages:

a)either my wireless network connection does not have a valid IP

b) the default gateway is not available

I am using d-link dwa-127 wireless adapter since my computer does not have an integrated wifi card, and I have already removed norton, which could possibly be blocking my conncection. I have tried setting my IP manually, but it does not work.

At the beginning it all functioned normally, and even now it works, but it did not before. I also noticed that when it does not work it says 'Unidentified network', and when it does it says 'Smuc' (the ssid of our network).
The internet as such is working this whole time, I always check it on my laptop with windows XP and an integrated WiFi card.

How could I solve this problem and keep my internet connection stable?

A:Wireless network does not have a valid IP configuration

If you can post a screen shot of your ipconfig/all it will help me to diagnose the problem for you.

As per a lot of other people on here, I'm having issues with connecting my desktop PC to my BigPond router. It will connect via wireless (have an installed D-Link DWA525 wireless card) but will not connect via LAN.

I've changed the IP, DNS and Default gateways to the same as the other working PC's in the house, but still no luck. The mobo uses Realtek GBE Family PCI-E controllers, but for some reason it won't move off 10Mbps (even when I try to tell it to change this).

I have tried new drivers, and have tried uninstalling drivers and letting windows install its own. None have worked. I've disabled V6, didn't work.

I have a few questions about simple WIndows 7 home networking. First, here are the various elements I have encounterd (let's leave any domain stuff out of this for now). There's the Workgroup, the LAN network, the wireless network and then the home group.
Could someone explain to me how all these elements are supposed to work and be configured just to set up a simple network for file sharing? I would also like to be able to use either Remote Desktop or Assistance if possible.
Actually, the file sharing thing is working - I have set up the public folders on computer A and can access that public folder from computer B. But I like things neat and tidy so that's why I would like to understand more of what's happening. One computer A, a created a LAN network and gave it a name. But on computer B, I would like t join this network, but it has already given me a network name (Network1). When I go to change the network, it brings up wireless neworks - how do I join the original network?
Can this LAN network and the wireless network be the same thing, or must they be different networks?
What about the Workgroup and Homegroup - do these these offer any advantages and if so how do I set them up? Thanks.
I am running WIndows 7 Home Premium SP1 on both computer.

A:Home Network Basic Configuration

Short answer: You get a network by sticking a cable between 2 computers. Wireless is the same thing just without a physical cable. Workgroup and HomeGroup are just something MS invented for LANs. As long as you have the cable between 2 computers and the IPs are in the same network segment, they will share resources. HomeGroup is just a way to make the trust and sharing between computers easier. You just select the HomeGroup and enter the password and you are done. Once you set up HomeGroup, you can just right click a folder and share it easily.

That network name (Network1) is not relevant. Create a HomeGroup on 1 PC and join to it with the other. With our basic home routers wired and wireless connections are both in the same network segment, there may be some that can configure a different one for wireless though.

I have run without a HomeGroup for years and haven't faced any issues. As long as it works, it will simplify your job. As you learn more about networking, you may find it redundant. Possibly better when you have more than a couple PCs at home.

Sorry, can't go into much detail due to time, if you have any specific questions, ask away.

Hello

I have Hamachi and I use it for gaming. I have always had a few problems linking up with a friend but I have been able to overcome them by forwarding ports ect ect.

Now my friend has bought a new pc (im not sure if this is the problem)

In Hamachi I can ping him but he cant ping me.

He gets a timed out message when trying to join my hosted game or when trying to ping me.

I have followed the troubleshooting advice by Hamachi and used cmd to ping different ips and my friend has done the same. The problem appears to be with my machine but the strange thing is that I can play il2 1947 and Arma 2 servers no problem.

I then uninstalled Avast and turned off Firewall but still he cannot ping me?

I have tried adding numerous instances of his ip's in the exceptions list of firewall - still no joy.

UPDATE

I have just gone into network sharing center/manage wireless networks - i clicked on adapter properties and under the sharing tab i have ticked allow other users to connect through this internet conection - i have selected hamachi network and clicked ok.

Now I dont know if this has worked until I can get my friend to try ping me again maybe tonight.

But this seems to be saying allow connections through my connection - I am confused.

Maybe this is all wrong

Any advice is appreciated

I'm using my Asus P6T Deluxe v2 motherboard on my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. In device manager for my on-board ethernet controller (Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E) I've unmarked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". But when I restart my computer this option is marked again. Asus driver is installed.

Does anybody know why?

A:Network device configuration disappears

Do you have that option ticked in a seperate Power Plan, so that it's not enabled on boot? I.E. have it marked in the Power Saving plan but not the normal Balanced plan, or the plan for running off battery power if you're in a laptop (which wouldn't be applicable in a desktop but sometimes shows up for the hell of it for some reason).

Greetings,

I have a desktop PC(running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit) connected to the internet via an ethernet cable in my office at my university. I use Teamviewer to remotely access this PC and I would also like to turn the computer on remotely by sending a Wake-on-LAN package. I have VPN access to campus network, yet I do not know how to configure WoL, as far as I know there are various methods for this and Teamviewer also offers some. Does anyone have experience with a similar configuration? I have a few questions such as:
How should I proceed, do I need specific ports open for WoL to work?
Do I need a static IP address?
Should I be in the same network and/or connected to the same gateway?
I enabled WoL from BIOS and Windows 7 settings. How can I check if it is really enabled?
We also have a high performance computer grids running Linux which are always switched on inside the campus. Can we send the WoL package via these computers easily?
Please do not hesitate to ask for further information if needed.

Thanks in advance

After working happily for some time both PCs in house can't access iNet via LAN. Message says Router has no IP address and this is confirmed when I IPCONFIG/ALL in dos prompt.

Originally I assumed it might be a conflict between the win 7 machine and the one running Vista. So I upgraded nasty Vista machine to Windows 7.

Bizarely the wreless on the router has always worked and my worl Win 7 laptop runs happily as do various wifi smart phones, Xboxes and tablets in the house. Also working from cable both XBox360 and sky box downstairs.

Set up is
Living Room: Cable in to Router/ModemTechnicolor TG5812N Pro then Cat 5 to Xbox and Sky+ Tv Box. Cat 5 cable to TPLINK 200MBPS Plug.

Kitchen/Diner: TPLINK 200MBPS Plug cable to Win 7 Dell PC.

Upstairs: TPLINK 200MBPS Plug cable to other Win 7 PC.

-----
Other cables and router to outbuildings via TPLINK 200MBPS Plug and cables currently disabled

Using Windows Diagnostics trys to fix but says "305 Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration."
I can ping IP from laptop but not from PC.
I have tried IPCONIG/RENEW

Stopped and restarted DHCP Client in services.

Out of ideas. HELPPLEASE

Have you tried power cycling the modem/router combo plus all TP-Link devices.
First with everything unplugged for at least 30 seconds, start by powering up the modem/router first giving it a few minutes to boot up, then plugging in the TP-Link devices.
What is the model of the TP-Link? TP-PA210 or 211
Can you post the ipconfig /all in this thread.

Recently I tried to apply a static ip-adress (ipv4) in vista home premium. After reopening the properties of the connection, it looked like they were reset to default. When I looked in cmd using ipconfig /all however, the settings semed te be applyed. Since the ipadress actually IS specified I do no longer have ip issues, but the bug annoys me like hell. This is a clean (but perhaps to fast) recovery of vista, so there would not be any other veriables.

So, in short, my networkconnectionproporties do not seem to load in the normall properties window. I have tried reseting like every setting there is, I used netsh to wipe all clean en tryed sfc /scanall, no succes. Therefore I believe there must be some corrupt files (dlls?). What dlls are responsible for loading the propperties (for instance the ip settings), if ik knew that, I could borrow them from someone else...

A:corrupt network configuration files?

I did a reinstall couple a days ago... I guess my registry was the problem after all... there were some other issues... in the end they killed the system so I had no choice. It is much more stable now: the registry was not right installed last time because of shutdown to urly in the install process. At least that is what I think...

EOT for me, but perhaps there are other users with the same problem?

I'm a college student and my campus has their own network set up. I'd like to know a little more about network configuration settings because I've had problems before where if I change something I can't get back on the network there. When that happens the only way to get back on is to take it to their support place. They upload something from a flash drive and then everything works. I get the problem when I change my computer's "domain." It's say's that it's "student.local" when it's set up correctly but I know that there's some other information nessesary for it to work. They also have something set up now with user accounts. Now, I'm not trying to hack their system or anything like that, but if for example I want to connect to a workgroup like when I'm at home, is there a way that I can backup those settings so that I could still switch back to my previous settings and connect when I'm at school?

A:A way to save configuration for school network?

With it working on the school network, let's first take a look and see if there's anything unusual in play here.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone can give me any help on the following setup:

At the beginning of this week I signed up for BT Broadband Talk (Supposedly cheaper phone calls) and I got from them a Voyager 220V Modem/Router. This router does not have a swith built in, so I am using my old Netgear DG834G as a 4 port switch. I also have a Netgear WG302 Wireless Access Point tied in.

I have managed to configure my laptop (Windows XP) to go on the internet through the Netgear switch which works good. The Voyager is the DHCP Server and correctly gives out automatic IP addresses to my laptop. The Voyager IP address is 192.168.1.1, and I fixed the Netgear switch to 192.168.1.2. The Netgear WAP is 192.168.1.3 which it gets from the Voyager and is reserved in the DHCP Table in the Voyager.

Although I cannot get the wireless side to work just yet (still playing) I have a problem with the wired side.

Through the house I have a desktop computer (Windows XP) that is wired onto the LAN. It receives an IP address, and it notifies me that there is an Internet Connection (8.1Mbps). I can ping all the devices but I cannot access any web page. It does not let me in. Even if I bypass the Netgear Switch and plug straight into the Voyager, It is still exactly the same. I have re-booted, tried fixed Ip addresses but to no avail. Can anybody shed any light at all on this, as I do not know if I can fix it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

This is my first post - and I am a beginner level user. Sorry I could not run the TSG SysInfo utility as I am posting this from work - not from my home laptop which has this issue.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 and I have a Sitcom 300N Wireless Gigabyte router. I have an HP dv2600 series laptop. I always run windows update and so you could assume I have all of the most recent service packs etc.

I recently purchased a new VPN and downloaded the associated application. The VPN runs on Open VPN protocol and installs a driver for the Tap Win32 V9 adapter which I assume it uses to connect to the VPN server. In the Networking & Sharing Centre, this new connection shows up as Local Area Connection 2.

When I run the VPN application, everything happens as it is supposed to. The application system tray icon turns bright green and when I hover my mouse over it , the label indicates the VPN is connected. I am able to access blocked websites (e.g. skype successfully) and if I visit "whats my ip" or the like, It indicates a different IP and location to my real one.

There is an indication though of a problem which my VPN support has not been able to address and is causing me to worry a little.

When the VPN is connected and I hover my mouse over the network connection status icon in my system tray, the status of the VPN connection access is "Local Only".

Speed tests show that the download speed of the VPN connection is very slow relati... Read more

all I will say is that in general using a VPN creates an encrypted connnection between your computer & the VPN end point ( server) so all traffic goes via that encrypted connection.

I have succeeded in being able to access a folder on my home desktop which I added using "add network location" on my laptop. However, while I'm connected through this VPN, I am using my home internet connection, going in through the router and then back out to the internet. So, is there a possibility of only using the VPN when I access the files on my home network and use the office internet for browsing... etc? Is this VPN configuration efficient or are there better ways to get access to files on my home PC remotely. Also, using this method I believe my router forwards all traffic on the VPN to my main home PC which assigns my laptop an IP. Is there anyway that I could just log into the router so that I was just another computer on the home network. As is I can only see files on the main home PC but it would be nice as well to have access to my HTPC.

A:VPN Configuration for Remote Access to Home Network

You can enable offline files that will sync up docs every time you get back to your home network, but if you have GBs and GBs of file, may not be efficient.

Windows Live Sync
from MS, can sync all of you files and folder between 2 computers free and efficiently. Very awesome for someone who has a PC and laptop.

Dropbox is also another program that can do it.
http://www.getdropbox.com/

I would need to hear more about how you are using the VPN connection and what hardware/method.... if it is just for accessing files, I would use one of the 2 above, preferably Windows Live Sync.

Hey,

I am trying to re-configure my home network to allow for a secure and normal (not to secure) networks, that will not be aware of each other but will both connect through to the same router for Internet access.

Basically I want one network that will be used only for Online banking, other important transactions and store important data and another which will be used for random web browsing, web mail, games etc that are more likely to get Spyware or Viruses.

The two networks will only have a few computers/laptops on each network and obviously as this is for home I want to know if this is feasible without spending huge amounts of money. If anyone sees any problems with my thinking or has any advice please let me know.

Am I correct in thinking that all I need is 3 routers?
1. Wireless ADSL Router connected to phone line that receives Internet.
2. The secure network router that connects to 1 and several computers.
3. The standard network router that connects to 1 and several computers.

2 and 3 would each have a separate wireless SSID and workgroup and use DHCP within different ranges to allocate IP's to the various computers.

Is there anything specific that I would need to do to the routers configuration to get them to work?
would the ADSL router need DHCP as well?
Will I need to configure different subnet masks?

Any help regarding this is much appreciated.

Regards,

Nnahrino

A:Home network configuration question (2 sub networks)

That will work. The secondary routers need to have a different subnet from the primary router. It doesn't matter if the two secondary routers use the same subnet.

Not sure how you are using the word "secure." I would advise WPA-PSK (or WPA2) on both wireless networks.

I'm probably asking something has been asked before but since I don't know anything about networking I don't even know the right buzz words to do a good forum search.

I have what I think is a very simple network need, like this:

network diagram.jpg

One person told me the box with the question mark just needs to be a switch, another that it needed to be a "firewall router", and another that it needed to be BOTH a switch and a firewall router, and another that it needed to be "managed switch".

I've looked all those up but being totally new to networking I find it all very confusing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello,

I faced a strange issue on wireless network configuration after doing a clean install of Windows 8.1.
I succeeded to find a workaround that maybe helpfull for others but I am still interested to read an explanation of this issue.
So as indicated above, I made a clean install of windows 8.1 pro on a brand new PC I built up myself featuring a Gigabyte Wifi/BT PCI-e card (GC-WB300D) . After the install, the wifi connection from my home router was immediately detected and I saw the icon and indication on the bottom right of the screen "network available" then I right click on it and a bar on the left of my screen appeared. I click in the side bar on the network icon I was willing to connect and I was prompted to enter my login and password rather than the wifi security key so of course the connection to my (home) wifi network failed as the security key was never configured for this connection. I opened up the network and sharing center to find a menu item to configure my connection by keying th security key without success. I worked around this issue by creating a new connection using the same SSID of the connection already detected automatically by windows as there is a field in this menu to enter the security key.
Any explanation ?

Hi there,

First time poster here. I've run into an issue with my wireless network settings, and I don't know what to do. When I access the Network Connections section of my Control Panel, I can see my wireless connection, but I am unable to right-click and select "Status". As I understand, that should give me some information about the condition of the connection, but it simply doesn't do anything. Furthermore, the Wireless Connection icon in my system tray has disappeared. I assume there is a connection between those two issues, but I don't know for sure.

This came to bear today when I attempted to install a second wireless adapter (a Netgear Rangemax USB adapter), which failed to access the internet through my router. There may be another issue at play there, but until I'm confident of my computer's internal networking configuration, I'm having trouble placing the blame elsewhere.

My computer is using a D-Link wireless-G network card; I seem to recall tweaking my system a while back to work around a recurring error box, but I can't remember many details there. Maybe that's of some help?

Thanks so much, if anyone out there knows how to fix this, I'd be very grateful.

Andrew

A:Wireless network connection does not have valid ip configuration

Answer Match 43.68%

Hi everyone, first time poster here. I apologize in advance for my ignorance of networking, but I'm learning.

I'm wondering if the network configuration I want is possible. Here's what I want:

3+ laptops (wireless connections)
1 desktop (wired connection)
1 media player (wired connection)

1 internet connection (cable modem)
a typical wireless router

What I want is basically this:

- All computers access the internet
- media player has access to a shared folder on the desktop computer
- wireless connections DO NOT have access to the shared folder
If I use the "standard" configuration (router connected to the modem, both the desktop PC and media player connected to the router via ethernet) then the first 2 points are satisfied, but the wireless connections can access my shared folder.

I was thinking that maybe there is some way, through an additional piece of hardware or something, that could put the 2 wired connections on their "own" network, but still allow them to share the internet connection?
I'm open to other suggestions as well. Note that password protecting the shared folder on the PC won't work because the media player doesn't have the ability to put in a password.
Thanks for any advice, and if you have any questions or need more information, just let me know.

Thanks!

A:help with this network configuration? (2 networks with one internet connection)

No problem at all. Buy another router and daisy-chain them. The secondary router will the "secure" router, and the router you now have connects the devices you don't want to have access to the shared computer.

Hi,

so I am pretty new to VMware, but I had been using 6.0 for awhile, but now I updated to 8.0, and the network settings are very hard to configure.

the virtual network editor (if you know what I mean) has VMnet1 and VMnet 8 configured, with #1 set to Host-Only, and #8 set to NAT. they are enabled, and have subnet masks configured. but vmnet0, which is set to bridged, has no connections. It says Automatic, and the only other option I have that I can change to is from a number of network devices, specifically a bluetooth, an Aethoros Network Adapter, a miniport wifi adapter, and a marvel-yukon ethernet controller. I have tried both automatic, and the Aethoros Network Adapter, but both of them don't work. I'll post a screenshot of the settings, as they appear. Can you suggest me with what I should try. This is very differnet from v.6.0 so i don't know what to do with it.
Thank You, and I would really appreciate some help on this!

I've tried just about everything I can think of to google, and coming to those more literate in hopes that I've missed something in my travels. Though I've tried all the usual suspects, setsh and all the rest, I'm fine with re-trying everything from the beginning as well.

A:Unidentified Network/valid IP configuration: both Ethernet and WiFi

When you see your IP address in the 169.254.xxx.xxx range that means you are not getting a DNS from your router. Try to turn your router off for about 15 seconds and then turn it back on and see if that helps.

You may have to restart your computer also.

A few days ago I arrived to Germany to a study for a semester. In the house where I'm staying there's a modem with a Lan Cable that I'm supposed to use. I plugged it the day I arrived and I notices I had no Internet connection. After running a few diagnoses the system told me that "Local Area network" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I don't know why this message appears and why can't I connect to the Internet. I've checked so many forums and I'm starting to believe there's no solution to my problem.
I've checked that the IP is in automatic configuration and I've also tried to connect with other modems what I obtain the same result....
PLEASE HELP ME, I will fail all my courses without Internet

A:Local Area Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration

You might need to power down the laptop, then power off the modem. Keep the modem powered off for about 30 seconds then power it back on. let the lights cycle through until you see connectivity on the modem, then (After plugging the ethernet cable into the LAN slot) power the laptop back on.

If it still doesn't work, you may want to check for Antivirus/Security software/Static Ips.

A:wireless network connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration

The ipconfig looks mostly ok to me although it appears that you have a DNS of 4.2.2.2 typed into the IPv4 settings window, it might be best to remove that entry from IPv4 and then type the DNS servers you want to use into your routers set up page instead, where ever it says DNS servers type in the two you want to use for example Google's DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 .

In the Network and Sharing Center> Manage Wireless Connections, the profile for this connection should be using WPA2 with AES encryption, the same settings should be showing up in your routers set up page. After that please post the ipconfig/all again. If you can check that out first it would be most helpful.

Hi,

I have recently purchased several Edimax Homeplugs (2 x *HP-2001AV' and 1 x 'HP-2002AV') and I am having problems configuring my homeplug network. I was wondering if my network configuration should work or if it is a limitation of the home plug and I need to look for an alternative solution.

I have cable (fibre optic) internet connecting to a Router, which is connected to Homeplug A.

I have Homeplug B in a different room connected to a Switch, which is connected to several Computers all of which can access the Internet concurrently (this appears to work).

My problem is with Homeplug C (based in another room). I want to connect this to another Router that will provide Wireless access to that region of the building. If I plug a PC/laptop directly into Homeplug C then it has Internet connectivity, however if I connect it to a router it doesn't appear to have any Internet access.

Should this work or is this some kind of limitation to the home plugs?

Any information you can provide to help me resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, my intenet status is disconnected and while doing a diagnose the problem is Local Area Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration. Earlier everything was fine, but it happened right after a power outage due to really bad snow weather. I mean outside is bad. I can't do any browsing on my computer or anything and this is the only computer I have. I'm posting this thread using my iPhone. I do have a wireless router but I don't have a wireless card in my PC, and my router is wired to the modem. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium Anytime Upgrade 32-bit x86. I can't post the CMD results from my computer on here, so I would need to type manually, but I'm not sure what info someone needs to know to provide me support. Thank you!

I am working from my functional desktop computer, so I will not be able to download any new drivers, etc. on the dysfunctional laptop since obviously I have no internet connection on it. After going through your forums and trying a couple of things to no avail, I did do the ipconfig/all, copied it on a usb and moved it over here. Here it is, I hope you can help. Thanks! Buffy624 Note: Also it looks like something weird is there for my DNS servers??? If that's the case, how would I change that in the little black box area of cmd.exe without messing anything seriously up. PS - also in going through the forums, I removed Bonjour since it was recommended in some of the answers - will that be a problem?

I was a bit of a loss and maybe it's because I have been out of the game for a long time but I came across a disturbing development. I call century link because my router was not connecting at the proper speed of 7 mbps. That problem was easily remedied over the phone but the lady said she could see several devices connected. This lost me a bit because I have a double router configuration. The Actiontech PK5000 i turned into nothing more that an internet modem. I disabled the DHCP and configured my Linksys E1200 for all the internal DHCP so there is only one cable going to the PK5000. I should technically speaking look like one user on there network with natural protection from the second router. I may be kidding myself or man I'm getting old but if someone can tell me how that works it would be fun to know and what would even be funner to know is how to stop it!!!!!!!!

From what I can see in the ipconfig you are showing incorrect DNS server IP's for the wireless connection.

It also doesn't show the manufacture of the wireless adaptor so something isn't right with the adaptor that is showing up under Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport which should only be used for sharing a wireless connection. In fact it almost looks like you are trying to share a connection here or something. Nothing with this connection is right.

First, connecting to someone else's wifi is both illegal and makes you vulnerable to malware.

If it is secured and yours you should know the logon, if you dont it not yours to use.

Please run the following and upload snapshots of the output

start>cmd>right click and run as admin>ipconfig /all

Hello there dear friends.

I just registered to your forum searching for help to a very persistent and annoying problem i have been facing.

While my internet works fine, many times a day (every day) the connection will fail and a yellow exclamation pyramid will appear at my connection status. When i perform a troubleshoot at my connection the problem is recognized as Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration and the problem is immediately repaired.

Now as you understand this is a very annoying problem because i am unable to perform many internet functions demanding time as downloading a file or playing an online game because i will drop every once and a while. I noticed that many people have been facing this problem but they couldent connect at all in the internet, as you understand my problem differs because i can connect to the internet but i get dropped every once and a while.

I am using a wireless router: airties rt-205
my laptops network card is a realtek rtl8191se
and i am using windows 7 home premium 32bit.

Before you ask i have already updated my networks card and routers drivers to the latest ones.

I beg you masterminds of windows 7 forums please help me solve this very annoying problem thats killing all the fun of my internet.

(ps if you need the details of the troubleshoot report just let me know)

A:Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Hi BlitzGreek, welcome to the forums

My next door neighbour had the same issues but it turned out to be a fault with the router. You could try 1 thing...Turn the router off, press and hold the reset button (found on the back of the router) for 5-10 seconds then power on again.

   Note
This will completely reset the router to factory settings without reverting to previous firmware. It can take up to 2 minutes for the connection to be fully restored.

   Information
ISP's tend to send router updates up the line but this can cause connectivity issues

Hope it helps

Hi guys, I've got a bit of a problem here. See, sometimes the router has too many devices connected to it and the other people living with me don't understand this so they keep their iPhones, iPads, laptops, et cetera connected via WiFi even though I tell them to turn off the WiFi setting when they're not using it. So it kicks me off constantly, not sure why, but I don't mind too much.
Basically when I'm "connected" but not really connected I remotely reset the router so I don't have to walk upstairs all the time.

Anyway, I've reset it without troubles before. But did it tonight and now it's completely screwed up. I run a windows diagnostics test and it comes up with:
"Wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration."

Now I've been searching the internet from my iPhone to find solutions all night and came across this thread:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1019884-solved-wireless-network-connection-doesnt.html

I've tried doing the things suggested in there but it's not really working too well. Here's my ipconfig /all

I really do appreciate any help in advance
I was recently on my Laptop ( Dell Inspiron 1545 Windows 7 Home premium ), connected to the internet fine, then suddenly I just lost connection, when trying to re connect to the router I get the following message - "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

The network is showing as an unidentified network?

There is also a desktop PC connected to fine to the router.

I have read pretty much every forum on the internet and still have had no luck.

Things I have already done :

- Removed the network profile
- Flushed DNS cache successfully
-Restared the DHCP services ( disabled, enabled, and restarted)
- Restarted the Bonjour service
- Disabled both windows firewall, and Commodo firewall
- Disabled, re enabled my wireless card, both with the function key, and through device manager
- Turned of my router for minutes numerous times.

I have done pretty much everything I can think of, I really don't want to resort to reinstalling windows.

A:Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

you dont mentionned trying this:

-open a command windows ("win"key+"r"key, type "cmd" then hit enter)

- in the black window that appear, type "ipconfig /release"(without the quotes)

-when its done, type "ipconfig /renew"(without the quotes)

if this dont work try restarting both your modem and router and try again.

Two days ago one of my laptops stopped accessing the internet even though it connects to the wireless router (BT Homehub3). Other laptops, Iphones, Xboxes etc still work fine on the same network.

Running Diagnose Connection Problems produces the following error message Wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Running the BT Homehub set up utility it connects to the hub but it fails to set up wireless connection saying that the wireless key is incorrect or there is another problem. It then suggests a wired connection which fails to connect (tried different ethernet cables and ports)

After googling for solutions I have tried the following suggestions without success

ipconfig /all

and the successfully pinging the resulting IP address, default gateway & DNS server

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

After the renew prompt the following message appeared: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.

In services.msc I disabled and restarted DHCP Client

I have also tried

netsh int ip reset reset.log

netsh winsock reset catalog

as suggested elsewhere on this forum, again without success.

I thought I had cracked it when I found a Microsoft Fix-it-for-me tool (MSfixit50199) but it made no difference.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I am a beginner- so please go easy. I don't understand everything I am attempting to explain. I may go overboard on detail- just to be absolutely certain that I am understood...

I do most of my work off-line. Once every three months I take my computer into work and my employer allows me to update it. I am a graphic designer. I work for a small business and the network consists of a single static connection to the internet (multiple computers don't rely on each other to access the internet- there is only one computer- and one DSL cable that connects to it) I have to physically remove the DSL cable from the work computer and put it into my own. I am given a listing of all settings (IP address, Subnet Mask, etc...). In the past- I have sucessfully connected to the internet by simply imputing the settings I am provided with. Recently- I have not been able to get connected...

Not knowing how to manipulate settings through the IP Config utility- I imput the connectivity information through the iPv4 Internet Protocol Window.

My problem happens when I close out of the iPv4 settings window. I realize I cannot connect to the internet- so I go back to make sure the information was entered correctly. Upon returning to the TCP/IP settings- everything that remains is correct- but the default gateway settings are gone. I re-enter the default gateway info- exit out again- return to view the settings- and the default gateway settings disappear- again and again.

When I Googled ... Read more

HI. I have been fighting with my computer for 2 days now. All other computers in my house can connect wirelessly just fine. The computer with the issues was just brought back from college and can't get any internet connection. It connects to the signal just fine, but there is no internet and when I run the diagnostics the problem of the wireless network connection does not have a valid IP address pops up. And it also says there is a problem with wireless adapter or access point. My only guess is that something is blocking it but i can't tell what. Everything else connects fine and gets internet. Juse the one desktop using the wireless adapter will not get internet. Here is the ipconfig /all results. Any helps is appreciated thanks.

Sorry for the big tittle
Now I noticed that when i open my task manager sometimes just randomly windows media player network sharing service configuration application runs, but not only 1 there is 5-6 of them all taking about the same amount.
I tried looking online for tutorials i tried disabling it in registry in the processes tab but nothing would work. I don't even need to turn my wmp12 on the process starts just by itself and its really irritating.
I am running a small home network with 2 pc one on windows 7 and one on xp but the funny thing is that even if the second one is off this process starts by itself.
I am running Windows 7 Professional x64
Windows media player 12

Thank you for all your help in advance

A:Windows media player network sharing service configuration application

This is a feature to share media between different computers on the same network, and with other devices as well. If you are not using this features you can disable it.

Start> In search box type services.msc> Enter> Double click on Windows media player network sharing service

Click on Startup type and set to Disabled

Click Apply and OK your way out.

Hello
I have a new TL-WR740N router by TP-Link. I set up the network with a visible SSID and WPA2 password and I access the internet with no problem from my Windows 7 laptop.

My mom's laptop with Windows Vista is giving an error that I had never seen before (she has used several wireless networks before without any problems). The computer connects to the network and tells me to "Press the configuration button" on the router. The router doesn't have a configuration button. If I click "Next" it will say it "Could not get settings from TP-LINK TL-WR740N - Verify the device PIN (...)" When it first tells me to press the configuration button, I don't have to click next - there is an option that says "I can't find the configuration button, I want to enter a key or passphrase instead." So I click there and put the password. It connects to the network, but only locally. No internet.

I have tried turning the router off and back on (that used to solve a similar problem some time ago). If we plug the router to her laptop using that LAN cable, then she can use internet. I tried to set up the network a second time (the SSID, the password and stuff) using her computer instead of mine, but that didn't do anything.

Thank you very much in advance '=)

i have two PCs
1.  A desktop that connects via a homeplug and ethernet
2.  A laptop connecting by wi-fi

Both use Bitdefender Total Internet Security 2016

Both had been upgraded to Windows 10 and on both I was getting an error message get the "one or more network protocols are missing from this computer" error message.

I have seen a number of listings for this issue which seem to indicate that Windows 10 - build 1511 is the root cause - and have various tried

a)   netsh winsock reset
b)  netsh int ip reset reset c:\resetlog.txt
c)  ip refresh
d)  deleting and re-installing the network adapter
e)  changes within "services.msc"
f)  Changed Adapter settings within Bitdefender

On the desktop I was advised by the supplier to rollback from Windows 10 to 8.1 (which was installed on the desktop ) but since then I am still unable to connect but when I run Windows Diagostics I get a new error message

"Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

I'm not sure if this is progress - but I am still unable to connect via ether net - I can connect by wireless hence I am able to post this question.

Can anyone proffer a solution?

Alright, heres the setup:

(1) DSL Modem
(1) WRT54G Router
(1) Desktop WinXP Pro SP2 machine, hardwired to router
(2) WinXP Pro SP2 laptops, wireless - one with built-in wireless, one with a Linksys WPC11 Instant Wireless Network Adapter, version 3.
(1) WinXP Media Center SP2 laptop, wireless
(1) Ubuntu Personal Edition - "Feisty Fawn" 7.04 laptop, wireless

The router has been set up to use WPA-TKIP encryption on channel 6 with an always-on PPPoE connection; it also has an IP of http://192.168.2.1 to avoid an IP conflict with the DSL Modem. DHCP Server is enabled with default settings, MAC Address Clone is disabled, and Operating Mode is set to Gateway. Access is set to allow both B and G, as one of the WinXP Pro laptops is an older model Toshiba that only recognizes the B protocol (that's the one with the WPC11 card).

Here's the problem:

Initially, the setup works flawlessly. All computers are able to see the SSID, connect to the network, and connect to the internet. The connection is fine, doesn't slow down, and is overall pretty healthy. All computers are able to access http://192.168.2.1, and are prompted with the username/password prompt, can change settings, port forwarding, etc.

Now, wait a few days. Usually about a week.

First, the Ubuntu laptop starts to get spotty with it's connection to the internet. After about 10 minutes, the connection to the network starts to fail. Sometimes it will see the SSID, sometimes it won't - and ... Read more

A:Linksys WRT45G > Unable to access router configuration, whole network degrades

I'd first upgrade to the latest firmware, and reset to factory defaults and reconfigure. If that fails, I'd have to suspect an issue with the router.

Many times heavy use of P2P does this to SOHO routers, something to consider.

both my sons have been pestering me for ages to hook up their comps for gaming with eachother.....and maybe printer sharing, thats all......no internet just the basics.both are on 98se.

my question is........whats the easiest way?
i have a couple of nic`s and a cable but this is sort of new to me,not something im really involved with.

thanx in advance people

A:how do i network 2 pc`s for gaming

If you just want the two pc's networked you can use the nics and a crossover cable.
If you want more a hub with straight cables would be the best bet.
For the two pc's basically install the network cards, connect them with a cat5 crossover cable(or use a hub and straight cable). ONce that's done you will need to enter network neighborhood and setup the tcp/ip.

Basically

work groug name exactly the same for both machines.

select the network adapter, click add, protocol, microsoft, tcp/ip

once the tcp/ip is installed select it, choose properties, check specify ip address

use 191.168.100.1 for one machine, 192.168.100.2 for the other

subnet 255.255.255.0 for both

dns disabled
gateway none
wins disabled

both machines will need to have file and print sharing enabled.

You may also need to install netbeiu on both machines, some do, some don't.

I'm sure I forgot something, been awhile since I worked on a 98 machine, but that's it.

ONce you get started post back with specific questions or problems.

Here's an old guide on how to do it, it should still be right for what your trying to do
