If you have an installation disc, either for Windows 7 or Windows 10, try booting off the CD if possible. Otherwise, if you have a different computer readily available that can connect to the internet, download a copy of Hirens, take the hard disk out of the PC and put in the other computer, write the Hirens ISO to a CD and boot off the CD. Then use the file manager to move all the important files to another hard disk. Once that's done, Open Partition Manager and delete the Partition, before reinstalling windows and all your programs. That's all that I could think of

ok. i uninstalled soundmax from add/remove programs thinkin it was just another audio player i didnt need... sound doesnt work at all.. I HAVE A DELL 4600 PENTIUM 4... i went to device manager and under sound video and game controllers it says
-audio codecs
-legacy audio drivers
-legacy video capture devices
-media control devices
-unimodem half-duplex audio devices
-video codecs
and under other devices it has a question mark with an exclamation mark beside multimedia audio controller.. BUT THATS UNDER OTHER DEVICES.. i went to dell drivers and downloads and downloaded Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, right after it finished.. or i think finished something poped up with a big red x the title was soundMAX - Installshield Wizard and in the box it read, "windows audio service has been enabled! please restart your computer and run this installer again". i did, and the exact same thing poped up. So, i decided to download soundmax file version:4.0.100.1189. i ran that program or driver or whatever it was and a box poped up with a big red x once again.. it read "Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run this setup again." i restarted the computer and installed the program again but again it said the same thing, at this point im stuck and dont know what the h*ll to do.:dead:.

Hello there,

I have been experiencing some issues with sound on my computer. It's flickering when I use the computer at the same time and listen to the music most usually on youtube, but sometimes on VLC too.
What I tried to do is to uninstall the audio driver (Realtek) and to install the version that is available on the producer's website (it is a dell xps l 501 laptop).
At the end of the uninstalling process, the install wizzard asks me to reboot, what I do, and when the computer starts up, I can see that it installs a driver for the audio device, but it is not the Realtek driver. The sound works just fine for all programs: browsers, VLC etc.
In the Control Panel there is no Realtek driver or any other audio driver mentioned.
So, my question is: is this normal? Is this some sort of windows integrated driver that gets installed when windows do not find the audio device after the reboot?
I tried to do this several times, and when I uninstalled it for the first time, after the reboot my Mcafee untivirus was disabled and the FFprotection (I suppose this is the right name for it) from windows was disabled as well and I reactivated both of them from the action center.

Thank you.

A:Uninstalled driver -- sound is still working

Yes, it is normal. After you uninstall a driver and reboot, Windows will see the device as new and install generic Windows drivers for the device. You can install the RealTek driver over the Windows driver. This will replace the generic Windows driver. After installing the RealTek driver you may have to reboot. After the reboot it will use the RealTek driver.

Plugging an Ethernet cable into the laptop will not connect to the Internet (haven't been able to connect via Ethernet for a few years, I've always used wifi). Is there a way to get the driver back without downloading it to a usb and installing?I've tried doing the "scan for hardware changes" option but nothing comes up. The only selection I have under Network Adpaters is VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapters and I cannot connect using an Ethernet cable.

Sounds like your "auto play" is what isn't happening. Did you go into My Computer and click on the drive or right click the drive and choose "open"? Does the drive even show in MY Computer? Drivers for cd drives are native to Windows, you do not have to install any drivers.

Hello everyone,

This is a little bit of my fault on my part. Yesterday, out of the blue, my CD drive wouldn't recognize CDs or DVDs. It wouldnt even show up on My Computer. I ran the Device Manager and it indicated that a file in the CD driver is corrupted or missing. I attempted to reinstall the driver, so when I uninstalled it, it disappeared and the CD/DVD drive tab won't even show up in the Device Manager. So I guess I'm in need of a driver, hopefully that's it. I searched everywhere and I can't find one that will match.

I'm running Windows XP on an HP Pavillion DV5000 laptop. The drive is a CD-RW/DVD combo with Lightscribe if that helps too.

All help appreciated, thanks.

I restarted windows and ran windows update and it finds drivers, but the install just fails after about 5mins.

I think I have tried everything, just wondering if anyone has had this problem and no how to fix it. I will point out this is the first ever problem I have not been able to fix in less then 5mins. Iam sure if I reinstalled it would work fine again but I would like to avoid that if I can.

A:Uninstalled Sp1 RC2 now I have no sound

List your system specs.

Try taking your audio device out of the computer or if its built in disableing it in the bios.
Then uninstall it in safe mode.
Reset the computer to clean up any files left over.
Reinstall the sound card then the drivers that came with it.

If anyone knows a quicker way around this I would like to know.

I've gone from bad to worse. I replaced a cracked LCD screen on my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. Everything worked fine except that the new screen lost about 20% of the original brightness. I messed with all the settings, to no avail. After scanning numerous forums, one person had an identical problem, and fixed it by reinstalling his video driver. Once again, I perused forums for a while, and finally decided to follow the directions of someone on how to reinstall the video driver (I'm a computer amateur). They said if I uninstalled my video driver, the computer would use more basic drivers. I was wary, but I uninstalled my Nvidia driver, and poof, the screen went dark. When I reboot the computer, I get absolutely nothing. I can see that the screen is powered up, but there is no startup screen, nothing. Since I got the computer only a few days ago, I have no new files, and would be happy to completely reinstall Windows Vista if I could. The only problem is I don't even get a screen to begin the re-installation process. Surely something can be done?! Thanks for any help that comes.

On my windows vista desktop I upgraded from integrated video chipset to PCI-E Graphics card.
Per the installation instructions I uninstalled the current video adapter via the device manager and uploaded drivers for the new one off the disc. Now the graphics are much faster but I have NO AUDIO./ When I reboot I get message Win/System 32rundll/ is not associated with a program.

I found on computer spec that the Motherboard had following : Sound : ALC 888Schipset high definition audio. Tried downloading drivers from Realtek and enabling sound. This resulted in bluescreen crash.

Tried buying new pci soundcard and installing drivers on cd. this also results in bluescreen crash at startup. Both times I had to start in safemode and disable audio drivers. Still I have no sound and no idea where to go next.

Hi guys,

Recently I noticed that my sound was malfunctioning. If I play music in iTunes or watch a DVD in Windows Media Player, it's just fine, but if I try and watch a video on Youtube or stream video on the internet, no sound will play. Also, the volume control icon in the taskbar is missing.

I went into "sounds and audio devices" in the control panel, and tried to check the "place volume icon in taskbar" box, but received an error message the sound volume control was not installed. So I found sndvol32.exe in my I386 folder and copied it to my system32 folder. Now, I can check the "place volume icon in taskbar" box, and access the volume control, but the icon still won't appear in the taskbar.

I've tried reinstalling my sound driver from the lenovo website (hxxp://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-61604) and tried all the suggestions on this site: hxxp://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm. None of them solved my problem.

I recently received help with virus removal in the security center part of this forum. We ran combofix to remove the virus, and I have no idea if this has something to do with my sound problems.

I'm running Windows XP, service pack 3, on a 5-year-old IBM Thinkpad. I've never had a Windows disc. I bought my computer through my school, and it came preloaded with XP.

I'd love it if anyone had any ideas about what's wrong with my sound.

Thanks so much, and Happy New... Read more

Tried to free up space and deleted "rarely" used items. Now I have no sound and don't know how to reinstall. Didn't have any restore dates either. Only 345mg free space. What is the windows os? I've tried 7, Vista, XP. All answers are incorrect. "No audio Device, & No active mixer Devices" system says.

A:Uninstalled SoundMax, now no sound

We need to know the brand and model of your computer or motherboard, and operating system.
When you run the defragmentation for Windows, how much free space shows at the end of that defragment update. You want at least 15% free space.
If you have the space, the first thing you need to do is download and install the drivers for your sound system on the motherboard or on a sound card...
Do you know what your sound system is? If so, you can download driver updates from the sound card manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer, and then installing them is a simple "click on the download" and follow the instructions.

Being the pro that i am - i've accidently uninstalled my sound whilst trying to add/remove some other programs.

I am using my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop - i have spoken to dell who[after remote accessing] hadn't got a clue what the issue was and decided to fob me off by saying as i 'downgraded' from vista to XP i wasn't warranty covered.

I've also tried installing many drivers - including the ones from their website - which ends up with the error message 'this is not the right driver for this system' although to get to it i had to insert my service tag.

So i'm soundless. - When i goto 'sounds and devices' in control panel, all of the sound options have been greyed out.

Device Audio : 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller

Any suggestions would be great!

A:Accidentally Uninstalled my sound

Look in Device Manager to see if there is a yellow question mark item for it. Tight click it then click Properties, the the Details tab. For Device instance Id you should see a text string similar to "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801B5". That should tell us what driver you need.

Also look in Device Manager under System Devices. There should be an entry for Universal Audio Architecture version 1.0a. This driver needs to be there before you can install the HD audio driver.

I have an Asus x55c-hpd111f and the bluescreen of death appeared while trying to load a netflix video. The error was BAD_POOL_HEADER and through using a bluescreen viewer i located the source of the problem. I looked it up and found out that it had to do with an error in the display driver.

I downloaded the display driver from Asus's website, uninstalled the old driver, and shutdown the computer. After a few tries at rebooting it, nothing on the desktop would show up for some reason, I ran the setup file in the new driver's folder and it simply said that it could not be installed. I tried to do it manually through the device manager and received the error message "the system cannot find the file specified". Some people online have said that it's an issue with the registry so i tried running ccleaners's and advanced system care's registry cleaners but it didn't help.

Also i'm not sure if its related but if i attempt to open regedit.exe i get the error message that ulib.dll is missing.

I'm really at a loss of what to do here, any help at all would be greatly appreciated

I recently replaced my GTX 660 with a GTX 970, and after I had completed installing that, the PC started up perfectly. The only issue was the internet said it was not connected (with a red X on the connection icon). I used the troubleshooter to discover that I did not have a LAN driver installed and windows didn't couldn't detect what I needed. I check my files and the driver was still there, so I uninstalled it expecting the disk that had come with the box of the motherboard to reinstall the driver correctly. After I had uninstalled the driver and used the disk to try and reinstall, the driver did not reappear. I searched for a driver install separately on my laptop, but to no avail. Nothing seemed to be compatible with my motherboard. The driver which I had assumed matched state that it could not detect the family of driver on my PC. I tried to do a recovery but didn't have a backup file, and resorted to a factory reset. After trying the disk after the reset, and continuing to search for the right driver, I came up empty handed. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey all. Here's the quick summary of it.

I bought a new keyboard, and to install it I had to uninstall the old drivers (it was wireless, so is the new one.)

After doing that and rebooting, it no longer picks up any keyboards once its in windows. It picks it fine in bios (and I can choose which OS to load.. I have fedora on a seperate HD, not the one I boot off of).

This is true for every keyboard! Wireless or not! So I'm stumped.

Either windows removed some file when uninstalling the last wireless software, or I donno what else it could be.

Any ways I can this fixed? I was thinking if I bypass the password into windows then I can reinstall the drivers. I think a normal XP cd would work?
Edit: I can't boot it up in safe mode or any other mode, it asks for a password in SafeMode and the keyboard still doesn't respond!

Thanks for your input!

Hi all,

I recently uninstalled my video driver as it was causing my computer to freeze.

I am now wanting to reinstall it however I cannot remember the model so do not know what to download from the geoforce site.

I have scanned for hardware changes in device manager but nothing comes up. I also ran the autoscan on the geoforce site but it did not detect anything.

Any other way of finding out the model so that I can plug in the details and do a manual search on the geoforce site?

Thanks,

Ben

A:Uninstalled video driver but now need to reinstall

Hello Ben, follow the option two, Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers. It will determine the hardware and will get the appropriate driver,

If you want the info about the card, click Start, type msinfo32 in the search box and click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Expand components in the left hand side pane, click on display. It will provide all the necessary information about the card.

I deleted my audio sound device because a friend was trying to help me reinstall it because my volume buttons weren't working, but never was able to get it back, kept getting errors.
I tried several different things including disabling & enabling High Definition Audio device or w.e. & have tried installing several different drivers & i know i used 2 have another device there Realtek i think but have nothing there now. Sometimes it tells me all is working properly yet my audio device has an X & says No Audio Output Device is installed. I have tried some kb Windows Update for it but said it doesn't apply to my system. I have tried installing drivers that give me a Install failure 0x00000020 error when i try to install them. Well...there's probably only one set of drivers that will work properly...those should bew the drivers provided by Acer for the audio function for its product.http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?modelId=27 . Note that you need to change the O/S at the right...to show only the drivers that relate to your particular O/S....download the drivers for 32-bit Vista HP.I would uninstall all unused drivers first.Remove Unused Drivers and Devices - http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/WindowsTips/WindowsXP/UserTips/TroubleShooting/RemoveUnusedDriversandDevices.html Remove Unused Drivers - http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6017628.html?tag=nl.e101 Then...I would try to install the correct chipset driver listed which applies to your system.Then...I would try to install the correct audio driver package.Louis

I pulled a bonehead move. I uninstalled my video card driver to try and install a newer version (long story, can't seem to upgrade to the new driver so I was trying to install the new driver fresh). After install, it required a reboot, which I allowed.

Now Windows will not boot - or rather, it starts to boot, then reboots and continues to repeat the same cycle. Safe mode and VGA mode don't help the situation. Looking at the boot/startup commands in safe mode, it looks like it's in the middle of loading drivers then stops.

Anyway I can install a video driver from the Recovery console, or any other procedure to get back up and running again?

Windows XP Home SP3

thx.

Ok I first had a problem, my internet at my resturaunt was fine but my Thinkpad laptop just said there was limited connectivity issues, I tried going on my resturaunt computer to fix the problem, there was a youtube saying that uninstalling then re installing the network adapter driver(non Ethernet cable one) it would get it back but it just made the problem worse, now instead of a circly pointed orange sign there is a red x on it and it says that there's no connections available each time I click on it, I tried trouble shooting but it just said that my network adapter driver was experiencing problems, I tried getting the drivers from intel but that didn't work, I should,ve system restored from the start but when I finally tried to I already installed a driver that created a restore point and deleted the restore point that was before this whole problem, updated the drivers two times but that dang red x is STILL THERE. I have two network drivers.
1.Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection
2.Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
The second one I did the uninstall, re-install method and the red x appeared ive been using my flash dirve to put the drivers in but they didn't work just updates and do nothing
Also tried look at other topics but they had different from mine. I was so stupid to listen to youtube >_< OMG PLEASE HELP ME ( I already did fn+f4 and fn + f5 and filpped the connection switch and it didn't work.)

So I've been messing around with varrious driversdrivers to try and get the game "RAGE" working. Which is an exercise in futility but to make this tumultuous process more agravating I've somehow inadvertently uninstalled my USB drivers drivers as well.

This wouldn't be an issue, except that my computer has no PS2 ports.

long version:

I used "GPU caps viewer" to check my driver driver version on my graphics card (ATI Radeon XFX 6790) as I'd not noticed a change in my gaming performance and I was unsure if the "11.10 preview 2" drivers drivers had been installed properly. "GPU caps viewer" said I was still running 11.8 which is what I had before I tried changing drivers last time. So I guessed that my drivers had not changed dispite the fact I uninstalled/reinstalled using the guide on the AMD /ATI site.

So on a bunch of sites I saw people were using "DriverDriver Sweeper" to get rid of the registry files and hidden bits of the ATI/AMD drivers and softwaredrivers. I used this application, it found the drivers left overs and removed it and then asked if i wanted to reboot.

At this point the drivers are "uninstalled" and the generic windows driver is working because my resolution/aspect ratio is stuck at 4:3 and wont go 16:10/16:9. AND more importantly my USB devices were all still working.

I restart the computer and It loads windows and I try to type my password and nothing happens, The mouse c... Read more

I recently junked and replaced an HP OfficeJet 6500.  I thought I uninstalled it properly.  It no longer shows in the list of printers and faxes, nor can I find any related folder.  In the list of devices, a yellow triangle with exclamation point in the center of it appears next to the computer.  When I right click to troubleshoot, the missing driver detection portion reports: "The driver for OfficeJet 6500 . . . is not installed."  If I select "Skip", in just keeps bouncing back up until I cancel.
I have read stuff about using a driver CD and running "Uninstall_L1.bat through Uninstall_L4.bat".  I don't know what that stuff is and I'm not sure I even have that CD anymore.  Anyone know of another way to clear this up?

I have a HP Pavilion g6, Win10. Today the sound on my laptop started playing from the speakers and headphones at the same time. A quick google tells me this is a known and stubborn problem for some HP users. None of the advice worked for me so I tried the option of unisntalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Looking at the 'Sound' tab of the cotrol panel in Playback there was a device, IDT High Definition Audio, which said it wasn't working. Looking at the control panel I had two options for which sound driver to uninstall- AMD HD Audio Device, or IDT High Definition Audio. Given the fact that IDT Audtio was apprently not working, I chose to unisntall that one. I unchecked the box saying to remove all drivers.  Apparently this was the wrong thing to do, but the instructions made no mention of this. I then searched for and downloaded the IDT High Def Audio driver, restarted my computer and... No sound, and no way of reinstalling the driver. In device manager if I scan for hardware changes it comes up with nothing. If I try all the options to reinstall the sound driver, and even specify the folder where I downloaded the IDT High Def driver, it tells me my sound driver is already up to date. In the Sound tab of the Control Panal, in Playback, I now only have one thing - "Digital Display Audio" - and that's with it showing disabled devices too. Help! Thanks.

A:Sound from speakers and headphones at same time, uninstalled...

#HPExpertDayThis is  driver and setting conflict issue. Windows would have tried updating the drivers and someother program might be overiting it. You will have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and software for Audio.

First of all, thanks in advance to anybody who offers assistance.

I had just recently bought an inexpensive computer from a friend thats a
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
2.20 GHz. 2.97 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension with
XP service pack 3.
with ati radeon Xpress 1250 version 6.14.10.6666

I started uninstalling programs I didn't need like MSN messenger and whatnot, and some other one I had no idea what it was for, but from what I could tell it had nothing to do with ATI. Suddenly, I tried to launch a game but it kept crashing, and afer investigating, the driver was uninstalled, and it had a yellow ! mark by its name on devmanager.

I cant rollback the driver or revert to a restore point even after setting one because Windows "forgets them." So I tried DriverMax but it wouldnt recognize the GPU and using the autodetect functions on the ATI website to download a driver, but when I try to install them, I get error messages telling me I need to run the installer as administrator (which I already am) or "Catalyst manager failed to initialize" and "failure occurred during installation.

It seems like the only reason this graphics card worked was because of the separate program already installed, and now its completely incompatible with this computer

Are there any older versions of this driver?

I have windows 8 and windows 7 installed on the same hard drive (AHCI)

On my windows 8, i updated to this: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...er+11.2.0.1006 because i thought it will make hot swapping work properly. After installing it, my computer won't detect my external HDD. so i uninstalled it because there's no option to roll back drivers and it didn't create a restore point.

I uninstalled it and my computers goes on a boot loop (has the windows 8 BSOD, way too fast to see the error). After a while, my computer will say that it will attempt a automatic repair, but never actually works.

B4 i can't even log on to my windows 7 partition, but now i can.

Anybody know how to fix this?

sorry if this is the in wrong section.

It had the yellow exclamation point next to it, with an error 39 I believe.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Tried searching some threads here. Downloaded HiJackThis, here is the logfile. Thanks!

The other day I went to start up my VPN Virtual AP for my Chromecast and iPad to connect to via my Windows 10 Machine using the following commands (have done this several times before and it has worked fine):
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NETWORKNAME key=PASSWORD
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
But to my nasty surprise, I was responded with:
The hosted network couldn?t be started.
The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.
Now I've looked everywhere online for a solution to my problem here. The underlying issue appears to be that my Microsoft Network Hosted Virtual Adapter Driver is missing in Device Manager (when showing hidden drivers). This appears to be a result of an update to my WLAN Adapter (Will list spec at end). Here are the following things I have tried:

Looked for Microsoft Network Hosted Virtual Adapter Driver in Device Manager as a Hidden device - Not there.Disabled WLAN Adapter and Enabled to refresh driversScanned for Hardware changed in DMTried rolling back WLAN Adapter to oldest version - 09/2015Updated WLAN Adapter to latest version - 23/08/2016Searched the Lenovo website for their default WLAN Adapter driver, downloaded and installed - but was the same one I had as my updated versionLooked for older editions of the adapter, but they either installed but didn't have the Network Hosted Virtual Adapter, or weren't compatible with my machine.Restarted my machine after every change made to the network a... I uninstalled Trend Micro Business Security from my 1 year old Dell Vostro (Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit) a few days ago and since then have had recurrent spontaneous shutdown most times with a BSOD Power Driver State Failure. In Device Manager, it showed a Virtual CD drive with a yellow exclamation point - I uninstalled the program that created the virtual drive but I still have spontaneous BSOD. I tried a System Restore but it failed to help the situation.
I attached my zip files of jcgriff2 and my perfmon html file.

This is a very strange problem.

After a reinstall of the Toshiba N2230 WiFi driver whilst investigating a WiFi connection problem (by uninstalling and reinstalling in Device Manager) I now find the WiFi card is completely disabled, although in Device Manager the device is "installed and working properly" and lists the driver. Toggling the WiFi off/on key does not have any effect.

So I reinstalled the Intel driver from Toshiba's website for the X870 (which crashes, but you can run it from the temporary folder it creates) The result was Bluetooth got uninstalled and now is an "unknown device" and refuses to install at all. If I try to direct it manually to the driver it says the driver is not for this device?!?!

I also tried Intel's own drivers specifically for Windows 10 with no success. Sadly, I did not realise that system restore had been disabled so I cannot roll back, which I expect would have fixed this problem.

The laptop is upgraded to Windows 10, this is the first time I have had any problems with the WiFi connection since it was upgraded.

Does anybody have an idea why this has happened...and maybe a fix? I don't think there is any fault with the card, this looks to be a driver problem.

A:Qosmio X770-119 - N2230 driver installed but not working, Bluetooth uninstalled.

Update. Borrowed an external USB adaptor (TP-Link Archer T2U), disabled the internal adaptor in device manager and installed the TP-Link. Result is the same, device is listed on device manager as working properly, drivers are digitally signed but the adaptor is not enabled.

There is no vpn software on the laptop, I tried disabling antivirus, run sfc scannow and disabled driver signing just in case. But to no avail.

So I was having driver problems with my DVD drive and accidentally uninstalled the HARD DRIVER DRIVER! From everything I've read, my computer is not going to start up, but the good news is that it said the changes will take effect after I restart and I haven't restarted it. I'm still in logged on!

So I tried to roll back the driver but it said "You cannot roll back the driver for this device at this time because it is in the process of being removed" How do I stop this? Is there a process I can kill that will allow me to reinstall my driver?

I feel so stupid, I just pwn3d myself.

Hi, please help.
I accidentally uninstalled audio device on high definition audio bus...now it has a yello exclamation mark and won't update. Under audio it says I have no audio device. I have windows XP, service 3 pack... and I hope this is the number you would need 55274-640-8725436-23218? thanks

A:No sound, accidentally uninstalled audio device on high definition audio bus

What is the make and model# of your computer? Or if a custom build, the make and model# of your motherboard? Go to the Manufacturers Support/Download Drivers site, type in your make and model # and download the Audio Driver for your computer.

im using now a sound driver default "High Definition Audio Device"Driver
do i need to uninstall it first before changing to realtek sound drivers??
and how do i uninstall it in safest way??and was there an option to undo if something goes wrong??

im using windows 7 ultimate 32bit. ..

A:Asking :SOUND DRIVER High Definition Audio Device Driver

That is the default Windows audio driver, and I don't think it can be uninstalled. Best is to not worry about it and just install the Realtek driver.

Uninstall the Realtek driver or do a system restore to before you installed it.

Can anyone tell me how I would do this? I've tried for days to locate my driver with no success.

Thanks

A:Reinstalling a sound driver for onboard sound from a pre-packaged Windows XP

normally you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the orignal OEM drivers for your computers model and series.
usually under Customer service and support or downloads on the companies' website.

If not an OEM install from a major manufacturer such as Dell or Compaq etc, then you should still be able to find out the manufacturer of the motherboard itself and go to their website and do the same

Any other suggestions? I emailed gateway about the problem a couple of weeks ago and they sent a link to reinstall the driver and it worked for a few weeks. Then a couple days it started getting crackly again so I reinstalled the driver and it was fine...but now this past week it's been doing it like crazy and now it seems like it's not even taking to fixing it for more then like 10 minutes.

Is there anything else I can do before I have to send it into Gateway AGAIN!

A:Re-installing sound driver no longer helping crackly sound

You could always buy a sound card. I'm assuming you're using an onboard one right now, so if you buy a sound card you'll have better quality sound, if you buy a good one, and it could speed up your games a bit, if your CPU is the bottleneck, since the card does the soundwork instead of the CPU. But if you don't want to do that you could try reinstalling windows. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to send it back to gateway.

Now my videos and my music do not have any sound when I play them?

Can this be fixed?
How can i Install this again and from Where?

A:Windows XP-Accidentally uninstalled windows sound

Can you tell us what soundcard you have or if it is onboard sound ?

If it is onboard sound, then you should have a driver cd with the chipset drivers on it for your onboard sound.
It sounds like you will just need to reload the drivers.

Hii pls help. Im having difficulties with the sound on my pc.

Speaker type: microlab x4
Sound card: creative 5.1
OS: Win7

Creative 5.1 driver installed + realtek HD audio driver R263 installed.
When creative 5.1 driver is chosen as the default device, sound is coming but not from woofer and front speakers.
However when i play blu-ray movies (both on media player and vlc) sound is coming from all the speakers as opposed to sound coming only from the rear speakers when i play song from media player and youtube.

When realtek is chosen as the default device no sound is coming.

Hope you guys can help me out. thanks a lot.

A:No sound coming (realtek sound driver)

Creative and Realtek are two different audio chipsets. Most likely, you have a Realtek audio chipset on the motherboard and a Creative Sound Card installed.

The rear speakers working and the front not working, likely indicates a cable connectivity issue (ie: the output cable(s) of the sound card to the speakers) or possibly a speaker configuration issue in the audio setup.

Simply switching the default audio chipset won't help. YOu would also need to change where the cables are connected.

Dell latitude D520.  Running XP.

The sound used to work but now the Control Panel shows no audio device.  I downloaded and installed the sound driver from the Dell site and it worked (for a few minutes) until I rebooted the computer.  Now it shows no audio device again and it won't allow me to reinstall the driver.

I don't know if this is a Spyware/Malware problem, but I've run Malwarebytes and SuperANTISpyware but they only found cookies to delete.

Please advise.

A:No sound - computer keeps deleting sound driver

Hi,
I'm guessing that the latest drivers may not be XP compatible. You might want to do a control panel delete of the new driver and reboot. That should reinstall the default driver which may work better with your OS. The other option is to updata /upgrade your OS to at least W7.
As XP gets older, with no support, the hazards of running it increase.
Keep us posted
