Q: Battle: Kaspersky IS 2016 vs ESET Smart Security 2016 vs Bitdefender IS 2016 vs Emsisoft IS 10

Now! ESET has just released their newest security suite: ESET Smart Security 9 (2016 Edition). These products are on the top of security suites which are produced by giants on security companies. Most of them released 2016 editions of their products. I want to compare on their newest products with new features (such as on ESET: Banking Protection, Bitdefender: Ransomware Protection and new Firewall, etc...) and some enhanced features.

And now, which is your choose for your security? Please let me know your opinion!

If you come from Bitdefender then I would recommend you KIS2016, quite light; very effective. ESET is also a good option, Emsisoft same stuff. If you like smooth and less interactive protection ESET and Kaspersky would be better, Emsisoft is cool but a bit more interactive IMO.

Computer resources wise it's Eset... But, if you don't mind that, go with BD, there are a lot of giveaways from them.

Earlier I was using Bitdefender and thought Bitdefender was the number 1 and Kaspersky is the number 2. But After coming to this forum I realized that the reality is completely different! Some products have trouble working with Windows 10, some have trouble protecting 64bit systems. I did some digging and settled with two products. Kaspersky and ESET. Im using a Windows 10 64 bit system. What product might be the best for such a setup?

A:ESET Smart Security 9 vs Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 for Win 10 64bit

For purely protection basis you may go to ESET SS 9 as you can tweak the HIPS for protection and their Sandbox (Banking) + so far the architecture (x64) isn't affected from performance.

KIS 2016 is a promising suite, however until now limited components working from prevention due to Windows 10 environment which the developers make a note to fix those issues; but overall a balance concept where you can tweak more from numerous components.

Somehow the system impact tends to be consistent as light for ESET than Kaspersky.

Still brace yourself to see those possible unique characteristics.

Which one is the best ?
better detection
Less false positives
Worth less in the system

I bought a license for ESET Smart Security 9, apparently Antivirus is excellent, very saw videos of comparisons with other antivirus, and it pleased me a lot, both in the interface and usability!
I was in doubt of which pay a license, get me out of this doubt, what do you think best?
Thank you!
I hope you understand my question!

Kaspersky for better detection and I think also less false positive

but you said "I bought a license for ESET Smart Security 9" so just use it then. Eset is good too, very light on system

A:Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

In terms of UI, all 3 are user friendly.

A:Bullguard inyernet security 2016 vs ESET Smart security V9

Most Internet Security products include anti-virus and firewall protection plus various other features depending on the software vendor...and for those reasons it is called a Security suite.I'm not an advocate of suites. All-in-one tools and suites are filled with extra features (including "bells & whistles") which typically use more system resources than separate programs that do the same task while other suites leave a much smaller footprint. Suites tend to have varying degrees of strengths and weaknesses accorded for each feature they incorporate. Internet Security Suites include a Firewall component, which IMO is unnecessary since the Windows built-in firewall is one of the best and provides adequate protection. Further, many folks also use a router which is essentially a hardware firewall. In contrast, separate tools are designed, built and maintained with a greater focus in a specific area so they are generally of better quality and more effective at what they are designed to do. This means the program's performance for that particular feature is usually superior than their all-in-one counterpart. Further, all-in-one tools generally do not allow the user as much flexibility in tailoring program settings and usage.HTG Explains: Why You Don’t Need a Full Internet Security SuiteIf you are adamant about using a suite, then I would recommend one of the following:Emsisoft Internet SecurityESET Smart SecurityKaspersky Internet SecuritySee my comments at the bottom of ... A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

Hafif Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 vs Bitdefender Internet Security 2016?

Sistemi: Windows 10, 64 Bit, ?ntel.

A:Bitdefender vs Kaspersky (2016). System Impact?

It is not clear-cut answer.

Bitdefender adds less to system reboot. Kaspersky much longer reboot.

Bitdefender uses about 200 to 300 MB RAM.

Bitdefender requires more advanced IT knowledge to solve problems when it issues occur.

Kaspersky has much better protections - much. Bitdefender needs supplement like NVT ERP because it is weak against some malicious scripts.

Bitdefender is good for laptop; has low battery mode.

Kaspersky is good for desktop and probably the best IS suite for family.

A:Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 vs Avast! Internet Security 2016

If you have the money to purchase it, I would strongly recommend Kaspersky Internet Security 2016.
Overall, Kaspersky might not be as user friendly (many alerts when properly configured) and as light as Avast (Kaspersky always was a little hoggy, although that has been mostly fixed in the recent versions), however the security components of KIS are much more mature and powerful (when properly configured) than those of AIS.

In conclusions, if you have capable computer hardware and you don't mind a little bit of configuration and quite a few alerts, I would definitely recommend KIS.
If you believe that KIS might be too heavy for your system, and that you do not really visit suspicious sites and download suspicious applications, then I'd recommend AIS.

A Sweet Suite
Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 has everything you'd want in a suite, and more. Its antivirus gets stellar scores in our tests and lab tests, and its antispam beat out all competitors for accuracy. The firewall doesn't attempt fancy exploit blocking, but it's tough and hassle-free. Add features like ransomware protection, password management, and secure browsing, and you've got a suite with power to spare.

Along with Kaspersky Internet Security (2016), Bitdefender is a security suite Editors' Choice. Other products have earned the Editors' Choice rating for different variations on the security suite concept. In particular, McAfee LiveSafe 2015 and Symantec Norton Security are our Editors' Choice products for cross-platform multi-device security.

If you keep your software and OS updated - and aren't a high-risk user, then the probability of an exploit is low - something like less than 2 % according to industry data. Therefore, anti-exploit protection isn't needed - statistically - for the vast majority of users.

If you want layered protection, then anti-exploit is one of the basic layers.

My attitude towards exploits that they are very unlikely - yet still possible (true 0-Day). Therefore, I run all commonly exploited programs - browsers, Adobe products, office suites, archivers, etc - with limited file system and registry access rights using AppGuard. AppGuard will not prevent an exploit, but it will block the post-exploit actions. I have seen it stop a nasty exploit payload from altering the system.Click to expand...

Hi everyone,

Recently i have installed Bitdefender Total Security 2016, And noticed that internet browsing became very slow!, Like any page that used to "fully" load instantly or in 2 seconds, Now it would take about 15 seconds or more!, Also i noticed that the time windows take in the "Welcome" screen got way longer!, It used to be about 3 - 5 seconds now its' about 17 seconds, I'm aware that antivirus must have an impact on the performance in general, But not like that.. I googled it and found many people who've been facing the same issue, I tried almost everything mentioned in their topics and still having the same issue. So i was wondering if someone is familiar with that or know a way to fix it.

Things i tried and didn't fix the problem:

- Stopped firewall.
- Changed adapter settings.
- Disabled web protection module.
- Changed Router's DNS/PC DNS.
- Used Bitdefender removal tool/Re-downloaded/Re-installed/Repaired.
- Tried different browsers.
- Did a fresh windows installation!

Notes:
- Download speed is not affected.
- Websites that has SSL/HTTPS connection are slower than the ones who use the regular http/non-secure.

A:Bad/Slow performance after installing Bitdefender Total Security 2016

My small guess would be: SSL scanning is getting in the way. Disabling it might solve your issue.http://www.bitdefender.com/support/what-to-do-when-security-certificates-cannot-be-verified-installed-1090.html

An Excellent Choice
Kaspersky Internet Security (2016) is an all-around great security suite. The independent labs praise its antivirus protection to the skies, its firewall does the job without hassling the user, and its spam filter is more accurate than most. Even the parental control component boasts more features than most suites offer. Powerful remote management is icing on the cake. Kaspersky is a PCMag Editors' Choice security suite, sharing that honor with Bitdefender Internet Security 2015.

Hi:

Thanks for posting.

I'm not shilling for KL or anything...

For the record, that KB article is > 1 month old (and predates patch (a), I think).
And lots of folks have upgraded to KIS/KAV/KTS 2017 under RS1 without issue.
BUT BUT Patch (b) has been in beta-testing for > 1 week, and is supposed to fix most of these issues:
https://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=356039

I guess it's sort of like AU/RS1 itself: you'll have either no problems or some problems.

Having said that, I lean a bit closer to the cautious Luddite side than to the adventurous "bleeding edge" side of things.
So, I am still on Win10 1511 and KIS 2016 for a while longer.
At my age, I like to take things slow and steady....

Cheers,

A:[Behavior Blocker] Norton Security vs Kaspersky Internet Security 2016

As for Kaspersky, I have not used it since about 2009 when it was Kaspersky PURE so I cannot really comment. But as for Norton, it blocks unknown files it doesn't have a HIPS as such but any program being stupid of trying to access websites and files they shouldn't get blocked by SONAR their zero-day and zero-hour malware component.

Kapersky Internet Security 2016 offers a great level of protection on its default settings. However, there are a few settings which you can change to increase even more the protection offered by Kapersky Internet Security 2016.

This guide should also cover Kaspersky Total Security 2016, and some settings should apply to Kaspersky Antivirus 2016.

1. Enable "System Changes Control" to block changes to operating system and web browser settings
If the web browser start page or the default search engine has changed without your intention, it might be activity of an adware or malware. In some cases, such changes are caused by add-ons that come with software you install (for example, with media players or instant messengers). Sometimes system settings are affected by malicious scripts that could have reached your computer through insecure websites.

With System Changes Control in Kaspersky Internet Security 2016, you can trace and block unwanted changes to the system settings.
Open Settings menu in KIS 2016 by clicking the gear icon in the lower left part of the user interface.

In the Settings window, go to Protection and select System Changes Control.

In the component settings view, make sure the component is enabled (the switch on the right must be On). You will be prompted for action whenever a suspicious change of settings is detected.
Select the check box Block changes automatically if you want Kaspersky Internet Security to dec... Read more

Don't worry about budget. Focus on the product quality. I have a hard time deciding between these products because I like all of them. Also, these are some of the best products in the market.

I don't really know the exact product versions (because I haven't used them in a long time). Assume you're comparing the latest versions.

If there are a lot of features, I expect the quality of the features to be good. Choose the product based on its quality, not necessarily based on whether you like it or not.

I choose Bitdefender because it has strong signatures and zero day protections. Unlike ESET, its signature is really good and it between Avira and Bitdefender level, but its zero day protections is somewhere not really strong like Kaspersky or Bitdefender.

When you set autopilot on in Bitdefender 2016 products does it change your user settings?

A:Bitdefender 2016 question

While on Autopilot, Bitdefender applies an optimal security configuration and takes all security-related decisions for you. This means you will see no pop-ups, no alerts and you will not have to configure any settings whatsoever.

In Autopilot mode, Bitdefender automatically fixes critical issues, enables and quietly manages:
Antivirus protection, provided by on-access scanning and continuous scanning.
Firewall protection.
Privacy protection, provided by antiphishing and antimalware filtering for your web browsing.
Automatic updates.

source: What is Autopilot mode?

I think that autopilot "adjust" some settings for better protection without user intervention.

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load. Restoring again today "fixed" it. Now it wants to update again, so I will disable updates until the problem is fixed. I don't know which particular "patch" is causing the problem; there were about 22 of them that installed.

I understand that the intrusion detection isn't helping much on 64 bit systems?
If so, would spyshelter free be a good complement?

A:Bitdefender 2016 Intrusion Detection x64

It's kinda weird, I've heard from several people on Malwaretips even on max settings it doesn't work, so why implement it? Spyshelter is very good, not too sure whether it can replace (or is) a full HIP's i.e., Comodo. Very good question, the AV industry needs to answer and see if they can come together to better secure a 64 bit OS.

Hi,

I'm new here. Wish to seek for advice.

Recently purchased an ultrabook; ASUS UX305 (Core-M, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Win10)

I'm having issue of not resource usage. I installed the Bitdefender AV and realised it sucked up the RAM close to 350MB and I'm having close to 45% RAM usage in total. I'm a heavy browser user.

I wonder if there is any alternative to lessen my problem?

I heard Webroot is good for that? What should I pair with? Voodoo Shield or Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit?

Any suggestion would be good.

Thanks!

A:Alternative to Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2016

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

Support for Windows XP and Vista will end April 2016 - Emsisoft BlogStatistics today show that both Windows XP and Vista usage dropped dramatically since then. Among our customers the percentage has already dropped below the ten percent mark, with a continued trend downwards. As a direct result, we decided not to renew our extended support for Windows XP beyond April 2016. We will drop support for both Windows XP and Vista in the next major version of all our products, which is scheduled for release in 2016.We fully understand that in many circumstances users have no way but to continue using XP or Vista, either due to computer upgrade budget restraints or because some old hardware devices dont come with drivers for newer operating systems at all. In these cases, we are offering partial refunds for any license time users cant use due to the changed minimum system requirements.

Ransomware Protection ? is a new module included in all Bitdefender 2016 classic line products (Antivirus Plus, Internet Security and Total Security) and it is designed to protect certain folders from ransomware malware that infects client?s PC?s, encrypts personal files, making them unusable and demand money in exchange.

Ransomware malware - is a malicious software that attacks vulnerable systems by locking them, and asks for money to let the user take back the control of his system. The malicious software displays false messages to panic the user, urging him to proceed with the asked payment.

Ransomware can have one of the following behaviors:

Encrypts sensitive and personal files without giving the possibility of decryption until a ransom is paid by the victim.

Locks the computer?s screen and displays a message asking for money. In this case, no file is encrypted, only the user is forced to proceed with the payment.

Blocks applications from running.

Using the latest technology, Bitdefender Ransomware Protection ensures system integrity by protecting critical system areas against damages without impacting the system.

Boot time Protection
Given the fact that many malware applications are set to run at system start-up, Boot time protection scans all critical system areas before all files are being loaded, with zero impact on the system. At the same time, protection is provided from certain attacks that rely on malware code execution, code injections ... Read more

Excluding MR1 restart issues,
@hjlbx and @Sher brought up some interesting topics about KIS 2016 in particular, where its scans etc use quite a bit of power.

I am a user of KAV 2016 only for a little over a week and I use it in a laptop, but such laptop is plugged into AC, not using battery. Therefore, I have never been able to notice power consumption issues.

One thing that @Sher mentioned was the shut down time delay.
Although startup for me been fine, I did however notice briefly a slight slowdown when it comes to shut down. I usually test and monitor system impact in general but shut down process I rarely monitor.

As I am not sure how many active users in MT use Kaspersky, this thread is for such users to come forth with their experience in KAV/KIS
I have now setup a VM to monitor KAV 2016 to test it once again in such areas.

Thanks

A:Kaspersky 2016 possible issues

For a laptop, yes there are more performance issues in comparison to desktop.
I am using KTS 2016 MR1 on my desktop & been using it for years, never had any performance problems. I run a full scan side by side surfing & watching videos on VLC with no lags. I certainly don't have a supercomputer, just a i3 processor with 8gb ram.

I tried using KIS on my netbook (dual-core, 2gb ram), didn't pan out as much as i hoped it would. Startup & shutdown issues. System hangs during full scans. So i switched with ESET. It is a tad lighter on my netbook.

But the reality is, these issues are there with all the antiviruses. Generally, i prefer not using antiviruses at all on laptops. Default protection i.e., WD with windows firewall & smartscreen is good enough and when coupled with NVT EXE radar pro, then no need to worry.

Allow me to announce the launch of beta testing the new version of the product KAV/KIS/KTS.

Available for testing build: http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/KAVKISKTS_2016/16.0.0.207/

Can be activated on the Internet license for beta testing for 90 days. Before installing the new build will delete the previous one.

Some aspects of difficulty for novice testers:

1. Do not proceed with testing, without reading the instruction.

2. Product hampers! The reason is included in Application Verifier. Be patient, you're beta testers, not ordinary users. Verifier necessary for the formation of a more detailed dumps, if desired, it can easily be disabled by turning off self-protection and removing the key avp.exe from Image File Execution Options.

3. Included in the trace. The product will be writing to the disk files of a large size. The trace can be disabled via the "Support" link from the main window.

Please refer to the testing process carefully. It makes no sense to have in a bug-sheet problem, the fix for which we are unable to verify. If the problem appeared out of nowhere and that's mysteriously disappeared after reinstalling the product - try to find a way to reproduce it, otherwise this problem probably will not be added to the bug list, so as not to be able to verify the correction. A:Kaspersky 2016 Beta

Strong Suggestion:

Kaspersky takes beta testing quite seriously and has mechanisms\procedures that must be followed; it is reasonably well-managed.

For best bug discovery do not use virtual machine (VM)... although Kaspersky recommends using VM. Using VM might miss bugs that only occur on physical system.

If you do not have a second beta testing machine, then really...beta testing Kaspersky is not a good idea.

Don't be like me and learn the hard way.

Read the testing documentation very carefully and judge for yourself.

First Webroot test to be seen in a long time.

"MRG Effitas was commissioned by Webroot to conduct a comparative assessment. Webroot commissioned MRG Effitas for a comparative analysis of its Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection product, and ESET Endpoint Security."

NOTE: Pay special attention to where journaling and rollback does not\cannot protect system; Webroot marketing materials state this protection will revert system "perfectly."

I tested ESET Nod32 Antivirus before 5 Minutes. HIPS isn't blocking petya ransomware.

First off. I would like to thank all the persons that helped me out with the last problem I posted here. Everything came out nicely thank you.

Now I'm having a problem with Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 file version 17.0.0.611.0.
And Kaspersky customer service is of no help what so ever. All they kept on saying was "We've never heard of that happening before". And then they tell me to do things I have already done (reset permissions ...etc...).

First, I had no problem downloading the file BUT when I tried to install it I got the following message - "Error 2730 - Error installing driver KLiM6.sys_x64 Error code -2147024891".
After a lot of work. I finally got it to install but my system continuously crashed and I had to do a uninstall. Even with a reinstall afterwards my system continued crashing (now I run avast just to be safe).
Any ideas on how I can fix this and install Kaspersky and not crash?

Now, at the end of dec, are the bugs pretty much worked out?
Or are people still experiencing problems and rough edges with kaspersky on win10?

A:windows 10 and kaspersky 2016 -- end of year

I think actual KTS/KIS2016MR0d is quite stable in W10, anyway there is a new 2016MR1 in RC (Release Candidate) stage that will come (official release) probably in January 2016, which comes with better support for W10, and some new improvements...

I was wondering how many people use Kaspersky 2016 that are on MalwareTips? I was also wanting to ask if had any problems when trying to renew it. If you aren't using Kaspersky, why aren't you?

A:How many MalwareTips members are using Kaspersky 2016?

I have used kaspersky for 6 years but when I tried to renew it ,the web page showed no option to renew it. There support was of no use and their forum is infested with moderator having "I am always right attitude" so I have switched over to emsisoft

I tried KIS 2016 latest on Win 10 64.

Few queries -
1. I see alerts are Windows type alerts & not Kaspersky GUI type alerts, anyway to get KIS GUI type alerts?
2. I see it has ads/tracking, etc.., how good is it? Is it good enough to replace programs like ABP, uBlock Origin, etc...?

HTTPS scan -
I dont like HTTPS scanning. I see it is required for safe money, url advisor, etc...
I in a way liked the implementation of HTTPS scan in KIS...it is not used for all the websites.

HTTPS scan ---
I opened a bank website...checked the certificate & it was Kaspersky cert. KIS asked to open the website in protected browser & I did so. In the protected browser I checked the certificate & it was not Kaspersky cert but original cert...thats good.
So why HTTPS scan enabled is needed for safe money? Coz websites under safe money use original certs & not Kaspersky certs.

And I tried few HTTPS websites & all showed original certs. Only bank websites showed Kaspersky certs but under safe money browser bank websites too showed original certs.

So I am little confused how HTTPS scan in KIS works & on what websites it works? Coz as mentioned above all the HTTPS websites I tried showed original certs. Only Google search showed Kaspersky certs.

So why HTTPS scan enabled is needed for safe money, url advisor, etc..? Coz if HTTPS websites are using original certs & not Kaspersky certs then it means those websites are not scanned, m I right?
