Hello,I recently encountered what I believe to be a spyware/trojan problem on my laptop which is running Windows XP. The problem started about a week ago when a fake security alert came across my desktop saying "Attention! System has encontered a potentional problem..." I ran Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware (I already had these programs installed). These both removed a number of problems. I also have McAfee anti-virus software running. I also ran a scan with this. As of now the fake desktop alerts are gone, however, when I run a Google search and click on a result, I am redirected to some random website. I also have tried to reboot my computer in safemode but when I do this the screen gets hung up on the follow driver and goes no further:Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)parition(2)WINDOWS\System32\Mup.sysDDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Tiffany at 16:38:16.95 on Sat 01/09/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_13Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.502.141 [GMT -6:00]AV: McAfee VirusScan *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {84B5EE75-6421-4CDE-A33A-DD43BA9FAD83}FW: McAfee Personal Firewall *enabled* {94894B63-8C7F-4050-BDA4-813CA00DA3E8}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcsC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k WudfServiceGrou... Hi

...now totally confused about which to use, or which ist the best deal for the money?
Right now i am using the trial version from Zone Alarm Internet Security,i like it - but it really slows my system down. I was also thinking about Bitdefender total security...since they offer a 30 day free trial version, or Internet Security Software 08.
I do like the idea of having a Security Suite, its kind of all in one , and i don"t have to hassle with x amount of programs ( still somewhat of a beginner).
I have read many ratings and reviews... just to confuse me more...seems as though depending on what webside you are looking (c/net, or pc world, or computer world...) each has its own favorite.

Can anyone help out?

Thanks in advance.

A:Zone Alarm Security Suite versus Bitdefender Total Security

Howdy AstridG James,
I have been using Zone Alarm Security Suite for a couple of years now and find it very good. I also have SpywareBlaster,Ad-Aware 2007 Pro, Spybot Search n Destroy 1.5 and WinPatrol. All the programmes seem to be needed to find different things and although Zone Alarm seems to stop most and is a gr8 AV....never had any problems with it at all...the other programmes still find different things and all work well together.

I recently inadvertently let in a virus that called itself XP Total Security. I am using Windows XP and was using Microsoft Security Essentials for Protection.OOPS!
After using another computer to search Bleeping Computer Forums, I managed to download RKill and Malwarebytes. I have ran both several times. Malwarebytes seems to remove the virus but when I re-boot it is back but with a different name. Now it is Windows Security Alerts. It has also hijacked by browser and will not let me do normal searches in my browser(Firefox) without re-directing to various other sites. I'm not sure what else to try. Now whatever the virus is - it is affecting non-web usage. While working on documents in Word or Excel, my computer will freeze and the only way I can move is to power down and then power back up.

A:Virus started as XP Total Security now Windows Security Alerts

I have also now tried Spybot and AVG. Even though they say they find trojans to remove - I am still having massive problems. Most of the time I can not log onto the internet and when I try to use System Restore - it either doesn't open or I get a pop up box that says System Recovery will not help me and then it exits. Please can anyone help?

How do you restore a Total PC Backup? And if I were to reinstall Vista, would I install a fresh copy of Vista then restore the backup, or do I just install the backup?

A:Total PC Backup

Vista's Total PC Backup is included in the Business and Ultimate versions.

You should save these backups to a separate drive; either external or partition.

They can be restored by accessing the "recovery environment".

If you attempt to restore from Windows you will be prompted to reboot.

The recovery environment will be preinstalled on OEM systems and available from the F8 boot menu; otherwise you boot with the DVD to access it.

If you can access the backup there should be no need to do a fresh install as this is a full image of the system that crashed.

But you should still be able to select it after a fresh install if that was done as long as it was not on the same drive.

I would also consider using an internet service to do this.

The bottom line is that when I get to my office in the morning, I want both laptops to be identical in every way.

Hi.

I have just installed Vista Home Premium in my laptop and am looking for
a backup solution. I would want to use my external USB hard drive for this.

I am not so interested in backing up just user files as there are plenty of options
for that.

Rather I am looking for something which will recover my PC from a catastrophic failure
and return it to a good configuration. Note that there is no floppy on my machine.

Thanks.

I am running a Raid 0 system on Asus P5k-E motherboard, four SATA 250 gig Wetern Digital hard drives 3.0 Gb/s ,Windows Prof XP,and a Pentium-4 2.9MHZ CPU with 1066fsb. Is there any backup system that would allow me to completely backup this Raid 0, so that if I got catastrophic failure I could get whole system up drivers, bootup, ect with minimum of reinstall work? In other words backup system to hard drives that's it it is running. functional system.
This motherboard has raid controllers on the board. I want to stay compltely Raid 0 and just have to backup system. Suggestions so far Norton's Ghost or mirror image. It will be backed up twice a week. No valuable data except programs to run telescope and camera.

A:Total complete backup Raid o

You have fakeraid and you are pretty much screwed.. Yes, you can use Ghost to back up the system, but in order to restore, you would have to have the RAID drivers, which are simply not there..

If you don't mind running the backup manually and reboot, use any newer (CD-based?) Linux distro to get a snapshot of the disk and then reboot back to Windows.
Or, put together a bootable Windows CD like this: www.ubcd4win.com

Hey guys, be patient with me as I am pushing 60 and a linux user. My wife's laptop is running windows 7 home ultimate; I think it is 64bit.

Yesterday she started getting a legitimate windows system popup that said backup your hard drive else hell commeth and the world will end. Well not really but close. I told her not to shut it down but leave as is. I came home and ran the suggested backup and also a system repair CD to boot from. Lord I don't remember where I stored the instructions .

So, After the above chores I ran sfc/scannow but that utility found no errors or inconsistencies.
I am no running CHKDSK /r /f and notices so far it has re-parched 96 records and processed 942.

When rebooting the pc, if I get the popup windows "window" saying I have the same hard-drive error, could it be a false positive, how is this information collected and where and how is it triggered?T\

Thanks ALOT in advance for any help.

p.s. I have the files and system image saved on an external harddrive and a repair CD build. We do not have the original windows install CD

A:Tips on total crash/restore from imager and backup?

Hello relaxing and welcome to Seven Forums. I'd use the first tutorial (Step 2) to determine the Windows edition and whether its 32 bit or 64 bit. Once you determine the edition and bit-ness you can get a legal installation disk by using the link in the third warning in the second tutorial (the link for Microsoft: Windows 7 Direct Download Links.) The download will be an ISO. You can save the ISO file to desktop and then burn it to a DVD.

System Type - 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)

Repair Install

I'd also suggest including as much info about the laptop as possible and filling out the system specs for the laptop. It will probably help to determine if the manufacturer has any diagnostic tools, etc that can help isolate any problems such as a failing hard drive.

System Info - See Your System Specs

It will also be helpful to know a little more about the system image. Was it created using the native Windows 7 imaging tool? A different imaging software like Macrium Reflect? One of my concerns is whether or not the laptop has a failing hard drive. If the hard drive is going bad, restoring a system image may not solve any problems.

A:What is the best Software/Utility for total system-backup ( OS, HDD partition, )???

Many use Acronis True Image Home or Paragon Drive Backup. But the "best" is the one that has the features you want.

Backing up to another drive, internal or external, is a much better idea than DVD's. DVD's are slow and inconvenient, meaning that you will be less likely to keep backups current, while with extra drives, the backups can be made automatically.

Hello, Bleeping Computer users. I have at least 3 malicious programs on my laptop running Windows 7. They are: Pro PC Cleaner, Search Protect and Cloud File PC Backup. I am unable to uninstall these permanently using Add or Remove programs as they seem to reinstall themselves automatically at Windows startup. All 3 of my browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) have been hijacked and the homepage has been set to Trovi search engine. All of my searches are redirected to advertisement pages. This all happened after my Aunt was using my laptop to browse Facebook and eBay. She also installed a Java update shortly before this all happened. It is very important for this laptop to be in working order as it is used for business and any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

On 'Computer' from the START menu it shows 'K' drive (external 500GB Buffalo 6 yrs old) as having 70GB free of 465GB total.
However, when you click on this drive it shows the old backup as empty when formerly (last year) it was almost full.
However, the new backup shows only 4.58GB used.
The software is Memeo which is a separate issue though and it stopped working about a year ago (worked ok for 5 years) and Memeo downloaded a newer version for me in the middle of last year. It originally came with the Buffalo Ext. HDD.
But how can the 'K' disc show 395GB used of 465GB but the details of the 'K' drive seem to only have 4.58GB on it?
Something must be wrong.
Also, when I set up the new backup plan using the new software there was only enough room on 'K' drive to have Documents, Music and Pictures backed up because the size of the Videos prevented me adding that as well. I intended at a later date to remove the videos from the old backup plan and create a new backup plan for them. Now I can't find the backed up videos at all. Many of the backed up photos will not open either. What a mess!
But I first have to sort out what is going on with this discrepancy with 'K' drive.
Thanks,
Phil.

A:360 total security

Hi tony007 Total Security 360 is an "okay" product if you ask me. It does the job and also have good rating in pretty much every aspect of an Antivirus product: detection ratio, effectiveness, resources usage, scan time, etc. The only issue that I have with that edition (Total Security) is that it includes a bunch of features that are close to the ones offered by PC Boosters/Optimizers (which are useless programs) and since you don't need them, it bloats the product more than anything else. If I was to use a Qihoo product, I would use 360 Internet Security which does just the same, without all the bloat. A lot of people are suspicious about Qihoo products since it's from a Chinese company and there can be some shady conditions of use but none that I'm aware at. If the product works for you then it's great. If you want to switch for another free Antivirus we can also give you recommendations on other products.

The next time I turned my computer on this xp total security window appeared saying that my computer had viruses and i should run a scan and the buy the program to be totally protected, i ignored the message thinking that it was a scam or something and then i tried to open my internet browser and every website i was trying to surf this message appeared saying that it was a unsecure site and that i should buy the program.
Eventually i found this website and thank to you my computer is working right now, but i dont know if the virus is still in my computer or if a have to do something else about this to prevent this to happen in the future.

Hi everyone, I know I have not been on here for a long time. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. I would like some advice please, please could you kindly let me know what you think of 360 Total Security?I have been watching video reviews on it and it seems really good, however some comments I have read suggest that people are worried about how the information is collected and used.360 Total security is FREE, if it is FREE how do the make money and how are they able to provide it for FREE?Here is the link to their website if you would like to check out the website. http://www.360totalsecurity.com/en/about.htmlI ask this question, as I would like to start using it.  I have been using Avast FREE Antivirus, but that seems to be causing slowdown and makes my PC sluggish. I hope this helps, thank you in advance for your help and advice, I really appreciate it and look forward to hearing from you soon.  Kind Regards TheHappyOneEdit: Topic moved from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum.~ Animal

A:360 Total Security??

Should be good. As I know there're using the Bitdefender and Avira Databases: I have no experience with Qiho myself but I've red and heard they're many satisfied with them.

I know and you should know too, that every tests and reviews mirroring the experience of that user that have install Qiho 360. So you should self try how good is it for you.

I'm sure I should be just waiting for assistance, but I am too anxious. (plus I like to learn new things) I have been reading various forums with the same symptoms as mine, and I went ahead and installed HijackThis(seen Gringo request someone to run it). I also had received this warning/pop up from HijackThis(word for work text) :for some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file. if any hijacked domains are in this file, hijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.If this happens, you need to edit the file yourself. I'm unable to run anything except iexplore.exe and when I try and boot into safe mode I get a blue screen. It says to run chkdsk /f in the repair console and when I do it tells me it's an invalid paramater. I've run chkdsk and then chkdsk /r because it said it found errors with no luck. The blue screen has a stop number which is, 0x0000007B (0xF789E528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I've tried to download Process Explorer at live.sysinternals.com/procexp.exe and can save it to the desktop, but even renaming it iexplore.exe it opens and then immediately closes. Is there anything I can do? Thank you in advance.

hey, i have a win7 home edition. i wanted to know wich is the best combination of softwares(like anti virus..anti-spyware. anti malware. and whatever else i required. i jus wanted to know..paid or unpaid.. how do i totally protect my pc.
i also need help in creating a proper. virus free backup..are there any specific softwares which ensure the protection of ur data.??
please help.

A:total security.??

Probably no such thing as TOTAL security.

There are a lot of threads on this subject. One common combination is Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and some common sense about browsing/email habits.

As far as backup goes, you have to decide on these issues:

What to backup: just data? just Windows? both?

Method of backup: an imaging program like Acronis or Macrium or a file by file backup program like Synctoy, Cobian, or Second Copy. A file by file backup program will not backup Windows. An imaging program can backup both data and Windows, but I'd recommend you use a file by file program for your data.

OS Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Installed security: K7 Total Security 2009 (real-time prot.), Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (on-demand only) & SuperAntiSpyware (on-demand only).
K7 package includes AV, AS & FW; has real-time mode.

So far:
Pro: Only product I have found that detects and can block ActiveX "Webbugs" from loading. I positively despise "Webbugs" and many programs claim to block them but I have not found their claims to be valid.

Con: Auto-update stops working after a few days & program has to be reinstalled. Don't know if problem is related to my particular system & software or is a common problem shared by many users. Also Spyware list is not set properly.

Anyone else tested this program?

Hi there,

Yesterday, Firefox crashed and the Total Security 2009 window popped up and my computer became incredibly slow. I rebooted in Safe Mode and found and deleted both _ex-08 and _ex-68 from my temp files. I've since run a scan with Ad-Aware and found nothing but I wanted to make sure that nothing crazy is going on that I don't know about. For the record, my computer seems to be running normally now and the Total Security thing is gone. This is more for peace of mind and verification.

Thank you so much in advance for your help. DDS log follows.

I ran a full scan with Malwarebytes and it found zero infected files. Any idea what I should do now? Also, noted that the red shield shows on some of my login accounts, but not all.

Hello, I heard good things about this website. As the title states, I have a virus on another computer named Total Security. I already checked the other topics about this and checked other websites but still can't fix this. My Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will not work and I don't have any other security agaisnt viruses. My internet on that computer stopped working so I can't download anything. I tried searching for the tsc.exe and other stuff, but they didn't show up. Regedit and task manager are 'infected' and can not help me right now. Any ideas on what I should do? At this point I think I might need to hire a expert or program or buy another computer.

A:Total Security

After infected with Total SecurityI have the same problem and it was impossible to run Task Manager or any other application. In safe mode I find a strange string in the registry[\\\Registry\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\] pointing to a .exe file with just a number before. (something like 4439876.exe). The String included the path so I could delete the files and the String in Regisrty. Restart and the Total Security was gone. Now I could run a AnitMalware application but still it is impossible to install NIC drive. All the drive for Network card is yellow in the Device manager.I think is still something wrong in the Registry. Please help anybody.PS. I am new user here so I don't now if I should send a Hijack log? DS./RickardWin XP Pro SP3 Swedish

Ya'll were extremely helpful 4 years ago when we had the "Nail" virus.I trust ya'll, and thanx again.
New computer (laptop) new problem
Already have superantispyware, and mbam (can't run this at all).
Tried to dl hijack this, but it just dissapeared.
As you probably already know Total security can't be removed with the add/remove option.
When I scanned with superspy' it kept going through one particular file over and over. It ran for over 15 hours. We have AVG free, and it doesn't detect it.
As always thanx in adance.

Toshiba laptop that has (had) Total Security rogue software. Tried installing Malwarebytes and Spybot. Install seemed to go OK but programs will not run, even in safe mode. Ran hard drive in another system and scanned. Symantec antivirus found and removed 12 items from downloaders to backdoor tidserv to trojans. Reinstalled in laptop and ran Bitdefender on line scan. It detected and deleted more malware. Still can't run Malwarebytes to see if TSC is gone.

Let me know if you need HJT or combofix logs.

The version of total security in my friends laptop defies removal. The registry files, the programme files etc are all different from those described online. Maybe Malwarebytes removal tool got rid of most of them, and the laptop works better as a result, but browsers are still prevented from going t any antiviris site and I can't install new anti-virus software and the thing is still running when I look at processes.
How to get rid of this thing, has any6one had any success and knows how to identify its associsted processes?

I was surfing the internet the other day and became infected with the XP Total Security Virus. Really seems to be doing the rounds at the moment this one. The virus is giving a fake scan with false positives for all sorts of nasties and prevents me accesing any .exe files and as such I cant get on the internet unless in safe mode. Ive downloaded hijack this and Malwarebytes but the virus is preventing me from running the programs.

I have read there are ways of temporarily disabling the virus to run it but not sure how. I believe malwarebytes is a good one for tackling this but cant get it to run. Also, I THINK another way of getting rid of this is deleting various registry entries but theres no way I would attempt this without a script I can trust.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. I know I am supposed to post an HJT log but unfortunately i cant run it!!

For sometime I've been running the 360 Total Security (actually I learned about it here after a long haul of Exploit on my computer that the Bleeping Computer guys finally worked it out).
Anyway, it's not a bad AV, I think, and got more popular and aggressive when calling the customer service line (for sure). So, recently within past 2 weeks, I thought I'd go ahead and did the upgrading to the latest running freeware 360 Total Security or Essentials, is what I thought and it was too controlling as to the right away take off on showing computer's missing security or needed same of updates, etc....that that part I can kind of do without as far as just prefer an AV!
So, I went back or from having the lower version before as I mentioned I wanted to upgrade in case I might be missing out on newer and greater protect or whatever, so to this end today I put on a lower version 1020 that I found from a website that offered same, because I didn't find that around at the 360's (manufacturer's site, let alone ask for anything of the sort). So, at this time, my question's as to the memory usage that it seems to go up and up like at right now-21,296K, well a little earlier or all of about 10 mins. ago, it was more 21,336K.
I just think that seems like it's a bit high for being a low maintenance or easier on resources (AV). Anyone have any info. or idea to suggest that's practical or opinion as such, please feel free to r... Read more

Okay well i got this virus called Xp Total Security and i have been googling ways on how to remove it. I have already tried the ones that were on this site but it didn't work. The virus itself is called "ayk.exe" i noticed that in the other guides the virus is labeled different things. I saw a few "tsg.exe" "ave.exe". So i was hoping that maybe those guides were the wrong guides for me and its a different virus. I have tried using the kill process application then running MBAM-Setup but whenever i do the program just starts back up again and i am unable to install it.
Any information would be awesome. I am fairly good with computers so if anyone has another way of removing it i would love to give it a try.
Thanks in advance.

I have been using 360 Total Security for about a month now and keep finding new things about it. The most surprising was the little version oval in the left bottom corner, apparently one needs to click on this oval to initiate a update. I have been using this with a old version for the last month not knowing I need to manually update. Is there a instruction manual or FAQ for 360 Total Security?

Hi All, Your reading from a very frustrated individual. I started to get these popups from XP Total Security 2011. Knowing something wasn't right, I googled it and found it to be some sort of virus. I have McAfee installed along with Webroot spysweeper that did not catch it. Called MSN support & they tech downloaded house call which didn't find anything and Windows live onecare safety scanner, which found 4 items & 3 issues. Went through the process to remove them & rebooted & they are still there. System restore doesn't work, starting up on safe mode and it's there also. How do I get rid of this?

A:XP total security 2011

Please follow our Removal Guide here LOOK .After reading how the malware is misleading you ...You will move to the Automated Removal InstructionsAfter you completed that, post your scan log here, let me know how things are.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

With respect to the Best Free Antivirus 2015 competition, I'm starting a thread series where users of the various products will be joining together to state the Pro's and Con's of each antivirus/internet security software and why they think it is a contender or not for the Best Free Antivirus.

The first post will be updated by me with what user's think is good and bad about the product, so an informed decision can be made for newcomers.

I've been infected with the Total Security Virus. I read the tutorial off the forums on how to remove it. I was unable to get any of the programs that were suggested to run as his virus closes all windows/blocks certain programs. I restarted in safe mode and ran a virus scan w/ my virus scanner (trend micro) It found one file and I deleted it. (It didnt seem like it was a file associated with the TSV, but then agian what do i know =P) I then restarted and evrything loaded up fine and seem to have taken care of the problem. However i still notice .exe programs running in my task manager that I have never seen b4 and they look suspicious. Im not confident that Ive gotten rid of TSV... so here i am =D I d/l the Malwarebyte program suggested and did a quick scan, nothing
Here are the attach and DDS files. I cant get the root repel program to work, i get an error message when i hit scan that says DeviceIoControl Error! Error Code = 0X0

Yesterday, I was on teh Firefox when it crashed randomly and when I started it back up it gave me a screen of the Vista Total Security thing. It's telling me that I need to register my version of this program and it's even giving me "Security ALERTS" of attacks. I know this was not legit so I proceeded to search for some way to get rid of it. I found one but it didn't work. It was probably connected to Firefox somehow so I deleted all my history and stuff from the browser and it still shows. Even after I close it with Task Manager, it still wants to ask me if I want to start Firefox or IE even if it's "infected" with a virus of some sort.

I took some pics as it came up while writing this thread.

Also, BitDefender didn't seem to pick up this problem too so...Maybe I'll post some more pix so you can see.

EDIT: I got yet another "Notification" after posting..

A:Vista Total Security help.

My Dell PC running XP has been hit with XP Total Security 2011 infection. I have run Eset and it finds a root kit infection, removes it but the problem reappears within hours. I have run Malwarebytes and the same thing, it reappears within hours. Can someone offer some help in finally getting rid of this thing?

Hi!Please take a look at this removal guide and see if you're able to clean-up the infection: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-internet-security-2011If you're still getting infected by a rootkit, than you should post in our Malware forum. Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.Kindest Regards,SweetTech.
