ViewSonic monitor cut out. No picture, can't access menus.

Q: ViewSonic monitor cut out. No picture, can't access menus.

Never mind, as quick as the problem began, it's resolved itself for some reason. Post can be deleted.

I'm having a bit of a strange issue with my ViewSonic VX2258 monitor.
Out of nowhere, the screen started to flicker (not the sort of flickering you might expect from a loose cable, but literally going completely off and back on) every few seconds. Eventually the screen did not come back on at all.
Thinking there was a loose cable, I tried tightening them but to no avail. The light on the monitor is still blue showing that it is detecting an input and Windows still detects that the monitor is plugged in.
When I turn the monitor off and on, I can see the ViewSonic logo, but oddly enough after that it is a black screen and I am unable to get any system menus to appear (the ones that are generated by the monitor itself, not the PC) or change the source. I would have thought that because of this, there is something wrong with the display but that doesn't seem to be the case considering I can see the logo upon starting the monitor. (Perhaps something to do with firmware?)
I don't think that it is a problem with my GPU as my secondary monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster) still seems to be functioning perfectly but just in case, it is a Powercolor Radeon R9 290X and my drivers are all up to date.
Thanks for the help!

Greetings all,

My ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is recognized as Generic Non-PnP Monitor. I even downloaded and attempted to install Viewsonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64". It times out at the end of installation and requests I download "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed" from Viewsonic website.

My display view is set at max res of 1600x1200. I am running Win7-Ultimate 64bit.

Is there any other way to get Win 7-Ultimate 64bit to recognize the monitor as VX? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 256MB card.

Thank you

A:ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is a Generic Non-PnP Monitor

If you need to know, here is how I fixed it.
First install ViewSonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64"
Go to Device Manager
Select Monitor drop down tab
Select Generic PnP Monitor
Right-Click on Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Update Driver Software"
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select from the models listed: Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Have Disk..."
Select "Browse..."
Navigate to where the ViewSonic monitor drivers are stored
Example: C:\ViewSonic
Select monitor driver
Example: VX2450_SERIES
Click "Open"
Click "OK"
Select from the pop up window:
ViewSonic on the left and ViewSonic VX2450 Series on the right
Click "Finish"

Finally, you will receive the message: Windows has successfully updated your driver software.
Notice resolution is now 1680x1050

After successful install of Nvidia drivers for my laptop's "nvidia geforce 9300m gs" current version:

186.19 to new version: 260.99, the max res cannot be set to the following available resolutions:
1920x1200, 1920x1440 or 2048x1536

I'm trying to decide between the G90FB 19" or the P95F+B...
Here are the links:

The only real difference between the 2 is the fact the Professional one (P95F+B) has an aperture grille while the Gaming (G90FB) has a shadow mask

I know the shadow mask uses dots (dot pitch) while the aperture grille uses lines instead of dots...

Which monitor will give me the best picture for gaming and crisp clear text.

A:Which is the better Viewsonic monitor?

If you can afford it I'd get the Professional version. I had Philips 107P (Professional) monitor with a .25 Aperture grille and it was the best monitor as far as picture quality/clairity I've ever seen (I'm sure there are better, but not without paying major money).

I run XP on a new box and a fairly new 19" (year old) View Sonic LCD monitor. The monitor worked as advertised on my old PC but when attached to my new one I frequently get a flashing green power indicator light and will get no picture.

This happens 100% of the time if I cold start the PC and I have to screw around with the restart button and on/off power button to get it to come back to life and in truth I do not know which combination of button pushing gets it to come back. I now use the power saver mode because that seems to be the most consistent way of bringing the monitor back to life but even that didn't work this am.

ViewSonic's web site wasn't much help.

Help here?

Every once in a while it will correct itself and be fine for a day or two, then it goes pink again. I've replaced cords and plugs.

Any ideas?

My Viewsonic LCD monitor flashes on and off depending on what I am viewing. I can view pages in any program that has writing or a small number of small pictures without too much trouble. A web page with lots of pictures or the desktop and screen saver are the worst. The monitor flashes off so much on these last pages that I can barely see the page long enough to move the mouse and open a program or expand one from the start bar. I have checked cables, changed power cord, and checked video card drivers. Viewsonic website was no help. Anyone with any ideas?

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Do you happen to know if you are operating the monitor at or beyond its normal operating range for resolution and refresh rates?

Do you get a stable image if you start Windows with a lower resolution in Safe mode?

In the future, it would help us to help you if you give more details like the model number of the monitor and how it is connected to the computer. The TSG reporting utility program does not produce an exhaustive and detailed report about all of the hardware related to your computer.

I have a Viewsonic VA721 monitor that I was using up until earlier today when the monitor started acting like a scrambled cable tv channel when turned on.

I was wondering if anyone might happen to know as to what might cause that, what the technical term for it might be and as to whether or not it can be fixed.

Up until today I have never had any problems with the monitor. Every time I would walk away from the computer for a while I would shut the monitor off so that I could avoid any burn in problems with it thereby preserving the life of the monitor. Because of that I have never had any problems with it until today and at the moment I do not know what could be causing the problem.

I tried the monitor on two different computers with two different cables and got the same result. I bought the monitor in 2006 brand new and up until today it has served me faithfully without any problems.

I don't know if it can be fixed or even if it is worth it nor do I know if it is something that I can fix myself or if I would have to have someone else fix it.

What I do know is if there is anything that I can do to fix the problem myself and restore it to active service then I might choose to give it a try.

Until I have more answers though I cannot make an informed decision about any of it and that is why I am asking.

I am hoping that there will be someone here that will know about such things and can give me some straight advice and information about the monitor and the pro... Read more

I just replaced a 1280x1024 Viewsonic monitor, that had gone bad, with another one (Viewsonic VA708).

Though I've never really been one to pay "hard hard" attention to how things look on a monitor - never felt a problem with anything - something just looks/feels "off" with this one.

This is most noticeable to me on the titles appearing on the browser tabs in Firefox. They just look "wrong" - watery maybe to my eye.

BUT... I have attached a screenshot comparing a blowup of a browser tab from my work computer Dell 1280x1024 monitor (top) and my new Viewsonic monitor (bottom), blown up to 1000 px wide (I cropped), and in the blowup, I can't tell the difference.

So why might I be perceiving things differently with this new monitor?

FWIW, I did update the driver from the Viewsonic site, and I also played with both the monitor's and the control panel's display adjustments.

I have a ViewSonic 19" CRT monitor (bought new in '99) connected to a PC that runs Win XP SP2, 512 MB RAM, Matrox Millenium AGP card.

The system ran fine until I moved it (carefully) to another room. The CPU boots but the monitor does not give any video. I get a black screen with a repetetive blue area that indicates no signal. The specific line entry is "No Synch". I think I may have seen this in the past, when the monitor was powered on but the CPU was shut off. I can't be certain it's the exact same condition.

I switched cables and tried a different video card but no luck. I don't have another monitor other than my laptop. I think I can hook it up to act as a monitor but not certain. Can't afford to crash the laptop.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like the vertical deflection is gone. Try the monitor on a different computer or a different monitor on yours to see where the problem is. If the monitor is bad its better to bury a new one than to pay to have it repaired. New monitors are pretty cheap now.

I am running Vista Home Prem.I use an 8800 GTS EVGA.I have the latest drivers for my 8800. I run 2 Viewsonic monitors. One is a VG900b and is fine. I also run a VX2235 digital monitor. Both monitors are listed in device manager by model. I manually installed drivers directly off of the discs.I have also downloaded Viewsonic's monitor drivers. I can't get my 22" to go to it's native resolution of 1680x1050.I have had these installed for a long time and working fine. When I ran a hard disc error check that is listed under tools under properties of my computer it erased my 22" and it's capabilities to operate @ native resolution. Another difference is that before I manually installed the VX2235, it was listed as a 'non plug and play monitor' under device manager. I have never seen that before. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am this close to going out and buying a new XP Pro disc.

My 2nd attempt to get some help off the forums

A few days ago, I tried loading up Warcraft 3, a game, and the screen went black, with the light flashing on and off. If I alt tabbed out of WC3 the screen turned back on. The problem persisted after a restarted, so I left it for a while. A few hours later I tried and W3 worked fine, no problems.

However today I turn on my PC and after a few seconds during the boot up, the screen goes blank with the flashing on and off light again. I restart it and it goes blank even faster.
After a while on the forums (on my GFs laptop) I try pressing F8 before the screen goes blank, and then press ESC for the 'default' Boot option. It goes on to boot up normally, with screen errors. I test out warcraft 3, (since when I first saw this it was whilst starting up this program) and it works fine, and goes on to do so for a few hours, till I turn the screen off and on to see if the problem is permanently fixed. It hasn't, the screen goes black.
Upon restarting my PC I get the same error as before, Pressing F8 and Esc doesn't fix it anymore. However now after pressing Esc I get to the screen where they ask me if I would like to Boot up in Safe mode. I do so and it loads up in safe mode fine.
Later on I try again to get it to load in normal mode, it does first time. Then upon loading Warcraft 3 again, the screen goes black again, with the flashing light. Again rebooting results in the same black screen a few seconds into loading... Read more

After about 3 times the monitor goes black and "Viewmonitor" pops on the screen with 2 values 18.9 & 23.6 (normal values a lot higher)and the status is OVER at the bottom. It also says User Mode 14? I then have to restart the machine. Also I have noticed that sometimes when I exit a game my screen resolution has changed to that of the game I was playing. I have all the latest driver for Monitor and Video card. I have and ABIT MB using RAID set up and it also has its BIO's and drivers updated. I run windows XP also with 512M corsair ram.

I'm stuck between these 3 monitors. The HP 27xi AOC i2757fh or the Viewsonic VX2770SMH-LED 27

They all look similar, but I'm just not sure which one to get. I'm leaning toward the HP 27xi though, but this site rated the AOC i2757fh a little higher over the HP 27xi. I'd like to hear some feedback from you guys.

My main usage is playing games like BF3/BF4, SWTOR and Titanfall when it comes out. I also do a lot of web surfing and occasional movie watcher on this monitor. My current monitor is a 24 inch Asus VW246H and I like it, but I don't love it. So my main concern is how well it displays games. I don't want any ghosting and the least amount of input lag I can find. Now, I know the AOC boasts a slightly quicker response time of 5ms vs the HP's 7 seconds, but the reviews I've read thus far state there is no visual lag from the HP. What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance!

Hello guys,

So one night when I left my computer on, i wake up at 3AM on a rainy night and i notice my entire room flashing (like from a tv in dark room). I thought I was having a rolling blackout, but as I got to my senses I noticed that my monitor was the only thing turning off and on. I turned it off, and went to sleep. The next morning I went to go turn on my computer and the monitor does the same thing. It turns (about a one to two second delay between each) until I turn the monitor off. The LED light is green. It goes from green, to off, to green, etc. I've had no prior problems with this monitor.

I tried switching out the power cord and plugging it into my wall (not connected to my video card, or anything) luck. It's definately the monitor. I don't know if it's dead or repairable or what. I often leave the computer on over night but i have a 10 minute screensaver and my monitor goes on standby after 20 minutes. When i fell asleep, my monitor was on standby (yellow LED). When I woke up it was the green turning on and off. Doesn't make much sense.

I don't have a my situation is pretty bleek atm.

I have a Viewsonic LCD VX924 3ms that i bought around the holidays of 2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the fonts and windows are very large, and the only resolution available is 680 x 460, with the only colour option at 16 colours.

What do I do to get a better resolution with this monitor. It worked fine until the hard drive was changed.

I have downloaded the driver for the monitor from the net which was unsuccessful.

I tried changing the adapter from standard to SVGA as recommended by windows, which was rejected by the computer and I had to change it back.

Windows is not accepting the driver that I downloaded.

A:Viewsonic vx2235wm-1 Monitor has no sound.

What does the monitor require? Older monitors, that use VGA or DVI usually have a Jack to connect from the PC's Speaker out (GREEN) to the monitor for sound. No driver is required for that. There is no audio in a VGA or DVI connection, just video.

My monitor seems to be experiencing some kind of problem.

The best way I can describe it is as a 'widescreen' mode. There is a black bar on the top and bottom of the desktop about 1 inch wide and extending across the entire length of the screen. I cannot move the mouse into this portion of the screen.

When adjusting the horizontal and vertical settings, 100% stops with the 1 inch black bars still in place. I cannot seem to make the desktop fit the screen. It seems to have shifted into some other mode of viewing.

I called Viewsonic tech support, but they didn't really know much else to do besides checking my settings. I am at 1024 x 768 resoloution, Radeon 8500 64MB graphics card, Windows XP and have installed the most recent drivers. Even when booting - the black bars are present, as if the monitor has somehow decided that is the mode it wants to be in.

If anyone has come across something like this before or knows how I might be able to fix it, I'd be MUCH obliged!

A:Viewsonic Monitor E771 Problem.

Might be starting to fail, 3 year warranty on those generally check the date on the back. Absolute easiest think to do would be to try it on another computer. Just the other day, I re-installed Vista 64 and had been happily using a x64 monitor driver for my VX2025WM, just before the re-install I decided to trall the net for latest drivers and deleted any old ones I had (stupid I know). Anyway on re-install with the latest unsigned driver - Standard_Monitor_Driver_Unsigned_Windows_x64 - Dated 04/10/2007, it is now telling me it cannot find my monitor. I've also tried the latest signed driver and this is not working either. I have tried a manual install from C:\Viewsonic and funny enough the monitor isn't even listed. I've asked Viewsonic for help with them replying asking me to download the latest unsigned driver (what the???) All I need is a copy of the previous unsigned driver to this one listed and I know 101% it will find my monitor and work, does anyone have it or know where I can find archived drivers, as Viewsonic have not responded to this request. I have recently upgraded my desktop and am thinking about shifting to dual screen, mainly for video and web editing (with a little bit of gaming on the side) and need help in picking out new monitor.

If anybody owns either of these screens i would really appreciate their feedback, on how good the monitor is and if they would recommend it.

P.s is there really that much noticable difference between 4 and 8 ms, and if so is it going to be noticable when video editing and gaming.

Title says it all really, just put a scratch in my 3 week old monitor , mildly annoyed about it and wondering whether theres any way to make it go away. When I run my finger over it it dusn't feel like a scratch, but with the monitor off, or showing a bright white screen its quite evident, and running fingernail over it i can tell its an indentation. Against bright white it looks almost like the effect seen if theres water on your monitor (rainbowy), if that helps at all. Basically i'd just like to be not able to see it, and was wondering if you had any suggestions?

hi all - ive got a problem with my new viewsonic vx2753mh-led monitor. its got 2x hdmi inputs and one vga.

the vga works straight off the bat, but whenever I try and plug the hdmi in it just says no input signal detected and goes black

I noticed in device manager that this was installed as 'generic non-pnp monitor' so after jumping through some hoops i managed to install the driver as 'viewsonic vx2753 SERIES'
Anyway this doesnt seem to have made a difference. still no input through the hdmi.

I have tested to cord on my samsung tv and it worked fine so it can't be a problem with the cord or the graphics card....

just some general info that might be of use:
windows 7 x64
dual monitor setup

the graphics is integrated on the intel i5 chip
my display adapters in device manager says Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.
it has a dvi out, hdmi out, and vga out.

thanks for any help you can give!

A:Viewsonic LCD monitor not recognizing HDMI input signal.

I have a Viewsonic which I'm also trying to run a media PC to connected via an HDMI cable, and I have noticed the exact same thing.

It was working fine for awhile, but recently I have been receiving an error on screen saying the "HDMI to DVI cable as experienced an error" or something to that effect. Note: I am using strictly an HDMI cable, not an HDMI to DVI as the message states (can't explain why I'm getting that message). I did the same thing you did, tested the machine using the same cable on another tv, and it worked fine on the other tv. What's strange is I can connect the cable box to the tv using the identical HDMI cable and it worked fine. Tried again using the same cable from the PC to the tv, and either 1) blank screen, or 2) shrunken screen with the aforementioned error which will go blank once I open Media Center.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but it seems to me Viewsonic hasn't made a good product in terms of connecting media PC's, for some reason. Of course, my tv is out of warranty at this point. If you find an answer, keep me posted, I'll do the same.

I have a Viewsonic VT2430 monitor/tv, and a Windows Vista 64, with ATI 4200 graphics chip PC.

Just performed windows update on my Dell Inspiron Desktop 560MT - Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit. I have been using dual monitors on the system since purchase. After performing windows update today my second monitor (connected by HDMI) will no longer display. The other monitor (the working one) is connected via VGA. The system does not recognize it is even connected. At start up however it will display up until login window. I am using two ViewSonic VX2453 Series monitors. I am desperate as I have to have both monitors for work. I have tried unplugging and replugging, restarting it with it unplugged and plugged. I uninstalled the update and have tried autodetect on the system all to no avail. Help!!

KChristians, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Sounds like you have WU set to automatically download and install updates, and it updated either the video or monitor driver. If that is what happened check your update history and you can uninstall it from there and should get you back to the previous drive.

Also if that s what it was you might want to set WU to not download and install drivers automatically, step #4 here,

Me and my friend just finished our computer, we had a few issues with the NZXT Phantom case at first: they didn't send us a few screws so we had to go to the local tech store and buy a few, but everything worked out.

Our screen seems to be having a slight problem: the image of the screen is not taking up the entire space provided by the screen.
There is an option that we found: Auto Image Adjust, and I am sure this is the right one, except: it's disabled!

It's a ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED Full HD 1080p
We have Windows 7 installed on it, and everything is working fine.
The Screen Resolution is set to 1920 x 1080.
DPI Setting is at 150%

Thank's for the help!

The text especially is blurry/fuzzy and the screen doesn't take up all the space it should - about 1/2" at the top and sides, bottom is ok. The guy at View Sonic support said it was a video card issue and I would have to figure it out with HP or Intel. Can anyone help me? I have Intel HD graphics. The monitor is Viewsonic VX2270-Smh-LED. Dear All Experts,

Hello! How are you all doing? Well today, I came across this Viewsonic LCD Monitor which looks quiet appealing and of course, being manufactured by the leading display technology company of the world Viewsonic! Heres the link to the product:

Viewsonic VX2433wm (24inch HD LCD Monitor)

Now here's what I need to know:

My main use of an LCD Monitor will be to:

* Watch Movies (Which should include a DVD & High Definition (HD) Quality Videos).
* Play 3D and Normal Games.
* Movies like Jurassic Park, Speed, Titanic, Action Movies, etc...
* Web browsing, doing back work on PC, Listening to music.

So, this in short will be the purpose of using a new LCD Monitor. So far, I am using CRT Monitor.

Once you have gone through the above link, could you kindly let me know how well would this Viewsonic LCD Monitor fair in terms of my above mentioned usage.

BUT NOW HERE's A TwIsT >>> While looking forward to buy an LCD Monitor, one question that kills my decision of buying it is that What if a Touch Screen LCD Monitor will be made available once Windows 7 releases to users. Then would all these LCD Monitors sold out today will be consider completely outdated not only in terms of technology but features as well. I have used it before and liked it. But then i noticed all or most of my desktop icons were missing. And all the start menu ientries were missing. So i figured i had a virus. SO i went to do a system resotre. But found that i oculdnt find it...due to to missing folders. So i decided i would then try to boot into safe mode. I think it said windows cannot find NRDL press ctrl alt delete to reboot. or somthing like that. Any ways i tried a few more times and it all failied. SO then i tried the windows recovery console. Nothing. I really didnt know whre to go with it. Then i decied to go into the bios and reset. Or i thought i was resseting them. I seleteced. "fails proof settings". But then i rebooted and things got worse. My monitor is now getting no signal, it says it is ocnnected though..... So i cant see what i am doing. Please any ideas. I had it out last night and had it plugged through a Sanyo projector - ie. the computer plugged into the projector and so did the monitor. Would this have done it? Also, carrying it back out to the car when it was raning might have gotten it wet?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Only thing I can think of is that your video settings got changed somehow. Can you put another monitor on your machine, boot up into windows. go to start/settings/control panel/display/settings tab/advanced button/adapter tab/ in the drop down box if refresh rate is set to optimal change it to adapter default, save , shutdown and hook up the other monitor. Long shot, probably won't work

Ok I lied OBP, I'm sorry, one last question then I'm completely done.

When I open my form I don't want there to be any of the menu bars so it looks clean and just start-up to my main form. I have already set user permissions so they won't be able to get into the design to screw things up. I know how to hide the menus and just start up the form using Tools > Startup, but I'm worried about what if I need to maintain the database in the future, I won't be able to access the design view. (I also want to disable the Shift key).

I was thinking about making an administrator password field on the startup form linked to a (hidden) command button, that when I clicked the command button all the menus would be visible again.

i need to create a dropdown menu in access. but it is a little more complicated than that. i am going to have two dropdowns, and based on your selection in the first dropdown, it determines the options in the second. hopefully this is possible. i think if i just create a filter it would work, but i don't know how to apply the filter after i make my selection in the first drop down. and i would need different filters based on what is selected, so apply the filter when drop down equals a certain value...any suggestions?

Is there any way to do that?

You should be able to just select the button(s) in design view of the form, and change the font with the regular toolbar buttons...

This is specific to Microsoft Access 2010. There was another 'Solved' thread that had a menu drill down that didn't even relate to Access 2010. OK, Select: File/Options/Current Database/Ribbon & Toolbar Options - you will most likely find that 'Allow Full Menus' is already checked. You also need to check the 'Allow Default Shortcut Menus' option for the right click menus to work. It took me ages to find this simple little option, but oh boy what a difference it has made. I have a laptop (attached to a server) that is being affected by mysterious typing and access of the pull-down menus - as if someone is accessing it remotely.

For example, I open up an email message, start typing, but then words I am not typing myself (that have nothing to do with my own message) start typing onto the screen.

The server has a firewall, and the laptop itself has MacAfee Firewwall installed. It is running Windows XP.

We have four laptops in the room. No other laptops are experiencing this problem.

There is no wireless access, expcept that the keyboards and mouses/mice are all wireless. But, the phantom text that appears is not related to anything anyone is typing on other laptops.

Our official tech support people have absolutely no idea why this is happening. Has anyone ever heard of this?

A:Mystery typing and access of pull down menus

Sounds spooky!

I have never heard of this but off the top of my head it sounds like a virus. What things does it type?

Things to try: (Apologies if they have already been done)

1. Update your virus tables and scan your pc. (also try a free scan from
2. When the mystery typing starts etc check taskmanager for any "dodegy" looking processes.
3. Do you have pcanywhere on the pc? Are you sure someone is not playing a prank on you?

Thats all I can think of for now.
Will post again if anything comes up.

Very strange!
Good luck

Hi. I did all the security updating this week for Internet Explorer, then upgraded to IE 8, the Beta version (I know, I know, don't say it! Bad Girl!). I access my email on via IE. Now, when I am on the AOL mail webpage, and I attempt to scroll down the left side frame with my archive folders (folders I've created in addition to the standard inbox/saved/trash/sent folders), I have a problem. The same when I attempt to access the email address list when I am sending to multiple recipients. The problem is that when I scroll down, then attempt to move my cursor over and click the folder or address I'm aiming for, the drop down frame pops back to the top of the list before I can click the folder/address. So, anything below the viewable window box in the drop down menu is not accessible, because the drop down info won't hold its place long enough for me to click onto. Hopefully, what I've written makes sense and someone can advise me on steps to overcome this issue, or advise me how to back out of IE 8 and go back to IE 7. Thank you! Suzanne

A:IE 8 Beta - Affecting access to drop down menus in

The most simple solution would be to revert from IE8 and go to IE7, like you suggest.

According to your system specs, you are running Windows Vista, so i will provide two sets of steps to uninstall IE 8 from your computer.

Steps for Windows Vista or for Windows Server 2008

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008, follow these steps:

Close all programs except Windows.
Click Start, type appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.

Note If Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 does not appear in the list of installed updates, please try the alternative steps for Windows Vista or for Windows Server 2008.
In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click Yes.

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.

Verify that your earlier version of Internet Explorer was restored.

If the above method did not work:

I believe my computer has gotten a virus.
When I start up my system, my mouse immediately begins flying around the screen, even on the log in prompt.
If I'm lucky enough to log in, menus immediately start popping up and the mouse continues flying around, clicking on things, starting up programs. Everything going on at once makes it overload and then Windows Explorer goes unresponsive.
I have no idea what this could be, where I got this, or how to fix it. Can anyone help?
Even if I can't fix it, I'd like some kind of way to retrieve my saved files and then just throw this piece of junk off the balcony.

I'm having a problem with ALL the saved passwords and ALL drop-down menus using Foxfire. I used to be able to double click in a box that I'd previously saved the log-on info for and the options would pop-up in a drop-down menu. Now when I double-click in the same boxes, I see a flash of print that lasts less than a second and then the box goes back to blank. Can't get anything to stay in the box unless I retype it every time. I work with a LOT of user-names and access codes for my job. It's a pain to look up and retype the sequences every time I need them.

Not sure if it's related but the problem started a few days after I installed a free version of AVG virus software. I've tried going back and to two different restore points that I know were before the problem started, but it hasn't helped.

I also had an issue where an internal fax program kept overriding my default printer. I solved that problem by uninstalling all print options except the default printer. Not sure how the fax became the default, but it started about the same time that the drop-down and access code issues started.

Sorry that's all I got for now. I bought a new computer and monitor since this has happened.

A:No picture on the monitor

Welcome to the TSG forums...

When the monitor isn't showing anything, it is very difficult to tell if the computer is actually WORKING, or only sitting with the fans making noise, due to some problem you can't see, because the monitor isn't working... If the computer IS working, you should be able to see a (small) light flashing on the front of the system; the Hard Drive Activity Light flashes to indicate that the hard drive is busy working during bootup...

OK, let's figure that the hard drive IS working, and a little light IS flashing on the front of the computer while the system boots up... The MOST likely problem is that the videocard inside the computer has come loose, and is no longer making good contact in the slot where it is installed on the motherboard. You MIGHT be able to resolve this by removing the cover from the computer, and trying to reseat the videocard. You will recognize it because it is the card the monitor is plugged into...

Do NOT remove the cover while the system is running; SHUT DOWN and UNPLUG THE COMPUTER before you work on it. Failure to do this can mean serious problems for you, and damage to your system...

It is ALSO possible that something else has come loose inside the computer, though most times, you should hear a series of "beeps" when that happens. However, if your system does NOT have an internal speaker, you won't hear any beeps...

Truth be told, there are a MULTITUDE of reasons why you could be havin... Read more

I have an oldish dual core PC , EP41-UD3L motherboard , 4 gig ram , GTX 260 running XP .

I stopped using it a couple of years ago and gave it to my dad , its sat gathering dust so I decided to set it up for him to use . It had 3 HDD in it , the main one I have in my new PC as a slave , currently in it is one IDE and one SATA HDD . I unplugged the IDE drive and got ready to re-install windows.

Problem is theres no picture on the monitor , I tried another monitor , same story, I put another graphics card in , same story . You cant plug a monitor into the motherboard so I assume theres no built in GPU. The PC ran fine for me last time I used it about 18 moths ago , the memory was removed but I put some more in.

Really got no idea what to do as with no picture I cant do anything and I'm stumped. I can't tell if everything/anything else is working without a picture , all the fans are going , all the motherboard LED lights are on. I can't hear any beeps at all when switching the PC on.

I havent built a PC for years or messed around with them but am I correct in thinking that even if the memory isnt working or the HDD ishould still get a picture? . Kind of hard to do anything without a picture.

Power light blinks blue but no picture. I swapped it out with CRT monitor with no issues on the CRT monitor. How hard is it if I fix it myself? Whats the name of the part I need to fix this and where to buy the part?

A:No Picture on LCD Monitor

From the info you provided, it's hard to exactly tell what is wrong with your monitor. Most likely you have some capacitors or some transistors that have "burnt up" (failed). You have the blinking light which means that you are still getting some power to it, but not the full amount needed. Looking up the information on the monitor, it is from either 2007 or 2008. My best suggestion is to get a new one. This is not something that is quick and simple to fix. Most of the time when something like this happens, you have to unsolder parts and then solder new parts back on to the board. Also, finding available parts for the monitor might create another challenge. If you are comfortable with this type of repair work, then take the cover off and start looking for "burnt" parts.

I have not been able to find any way of reducing the size of the picture using the TV/monitor settings.

I have now gone through 4 monitors and a new video card during my attempted transition from a 15 inch screen to a 17 inch flat panel. Despite adjusting resolution and refresh rates, the picture always gives shadows. In other words, after each text letter, there are multiple faint repetitions of each letter trailing off to the right. The monitors DO work on another, older computer. I have a 3 year old Dell running Windows XP. Any advice?

A:Fuzzy Monitor Picture

Have also seen this be due to a motherboard. Tried all of what you have done and since it was in warrantee, the motherboard got replaced which solved the problem.

So, my friend just got a new monitor for his computer. It's an emachines T6410 and has XP and a 3200+ AMD Athlon 64 processor. The monitor is an LG Flatron and when we hooked it up to his computer and turn it on, I'm not sure, but I think the computer isn't sending any signal to the monitor. Because the monitor turns on and the blue light comes on, then the LG symbol comes up, but after that it says power saving mode. It won't show anything else, it just stars hibernating.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm kinda stumped.

I am using an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 with 2 monitors.

Last night I had to uninstall and re-install the ATI software; for some reason I had lost the Capture Driver. After re-installing everything worked fine. This morning I turned on the computer and the monitors did not come on. I turned them on manually and they give a "NO SIGNAL" message. Is this a coincidence? Could the re-installing of the software cause it to not even show the BIOS bootup screen? I'm totally lost as to what to do. Install another video card - I may have one still around somewhere?

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm not at home now but any advice will be taken when I get there this evening. I do have a second computer there so I can respond to any comments, questions, etc.

Thank you,

I own an acer aspire e360 from 2002ish on windows xp professional. It has run without any real problems till just now. Upon normal browsing (nothing ram or memory intensive, no new browsers, no new hardware), the computer "randomly" flashed a bsod. The bsod flashed for too short of a time for me to copy down the error code. After this, the computer rebooted and the monitor receives no signal. The other connections all receive power. After a few seconds of the computer being on, any keyboard input leads to what seems like a restatt judging from the noises from the fan. However, the monitor displays no picture and receives no signal. My best guess is the computer is restarting into a bluescreen. Therefore, by "pressing any key" I am rebooting.

I have tried removing all connections except the power, keyboard, and monitor to the same end. I also tried installing a different monitor with no success. I tried booting into safe mode via f8 multiple times without seeing bios or any signal.
What seems to be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

A:bsod=>no monitor picture?

Hi .

The first thing I would suggest checking is...all connections.

If you have a separate video card (it's not onboard video), then I suggest removing the video card and reseating it. If it's onboard video, then I would (because I have spare components lying around my apartment) try a video card in lieu of the onboard. In such cases, I have to make sure that I have the appropriate video card type that matches up with my motherboard.

The only way that I approach troubleshooting a lack of video on a to try to assure myself that other likely suspects (power supply, RAM, hard drive) can be moved to another system and actually work there.

When I'm sure that the above components/functions are working properly...and I still have a problem...I move on to the hard stuff (CPU, motherboard) as suspects. My experience-level doesn't allow me to do much with these, so I just take the troubled system to a local computer shop (I trust) and ask them to check it out for me.

i bought a new monitor the other day, and its plugged in correctly, the motherboard is fine, everything works fine, but the monitor just won't recognize the wireless keyboard and mouse (and even the mouse i plugged in; and its either they aren't being detected, or there's a different problem). it just turns on, says "Auto Detect: entering power save", and the screen goes black. the computer had been freezing up beforehand, but its been like this for 2 days now. I'd like to get the monitor up and running again. I'm not too good with computers yet, so simplistic directions would be great, if this is even fixable.

The problem started when I tried using a different monitor w/ my desktop pc. There is no picture on the monitor (I've tried it w/ both video cards in my pc, and the monitor works on other pcs), and it doesn't sound like the pc is booting. The fans are on and lights on the front light up, but there is no windows startup music. Also, I have to turn it off from the power supply, the restart button seems to work though. Hello, I need somebody's advice on how to get the max performance out of my PIONEER KURO plasma 60" flatscreen. As many of you know hi-def 1080 is not powerful enough for these $5000 monitors so I would like to use a video card instead to give this engine the fuel it needs to run correctly. I don't watch cable or reg television I strictly watch prerecorded sporting events, movies etc. Here's the catch I will be running it from a slim chassis pc only so I need a very powerful vid card that must fit the narrow chassis design. Hi-Def means Hi-Def and the awful picture quality of anything over 50" is a discrace. At least if there is a Unit that was ever made to look the part the Pioneer was it , so anyone who could bring out the potential of the 6020 FD , please share your thoughts!   VeeDandy

I am not a computer guru so I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question. If not, please advise as to where I should pose this question:
While I am on my notebook computer wirelessly (this doesn't happen on my wired PC) frequently a picture of a monitor appear on the bottom of the right screen-within this box are three rectangular boxes on the bottom. I don't know how to make this disappear without shutting off the computer. It prevents me from seeing everything on my screen. I use avast-don't know if this is a virus, but I am going to run my Avast program in a few minutes. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Thanks for your advice,

check cables, download and install latest video drivers, check there are no large speakers/magnets near the monitor (if it is a CRT) if that doesn't help get a new monitor.

Hello, I am trying to use my TV as a monitor for my computer. I have a GeForce 7950 and an Olevia TV. It has VGA and HDMI but I am trying to use the componet cables from my video card. The blue, green, and red ones. It shows up but everything is blue and white. The colors aren't coming in right at all. I have checked that they are matched correctly multiple times. I was wondering what I may be able to do to fix the problem? I have also tried reinstalling the video drivers. I would like to see if there is any way to fix this using the cables and not having to get a VGA cable.

A:TV picture for monitor"?

It is possible that there may be some type of "component video" type difference. The controller may be outputting Y,Pr,Pb signals while TV is expecting RGB signals.

It may be rather difficult for someone here to help troubleshoot your problem without knowing the exact brand and model number of the video controller card (I believe that GeForce 7950 refers only to the graphics ICs on the card) as well as the model number of the Olevia TV.

Is it true that the picture size of a 15" lcd monitor is about the same size as a 17" crt?

A:lcd vs crt monitor picture sizes

Hi, plschwartz

It is pretty close, because unlike a CRT monitor, an LCD doesn't cover part of the screen with a bezel.

One thing to remember about LCD screens, however, is that they have a " Native resolution" ( depending on the size of the LCD) and generally do not look good at any other resolution.

Can a monitor lose its "crisp and clearness" after so long. I have some older monitors on new machines with the refresh rate maxed. Is there anything else I can do with it or is served its time and needs to be thrown out?

A:Monitor picture clearness

You can try adjusting the contrast & brightness, as I've seen many monitors where users turn them both all the way up and that often causes the pixels to blossom which results in a bright but blurry screen. Though many older cheaper monitors dim so much they have to turn them all the way up, so at that point it's time for a new one. In environments where florescent lighting is used you often need more brightness to overcome the overhead glare, which results in shorter lifespan of the CRT.

Hello All,
Yesterday I was surfing the internet, not doing much of anything, no new updates, no new driver or hardware or software installs, just a slow day checking the forums. Everything seemed normal so I leave the computer to go do something for about an hour. When I come back and pressed the space bar (that is how I wake up my computer) the computer fires up but there is no picture on my monitor. It is dead. So I restart the computer and I can get the BIOS screen on the monitor, and I can navigate through the BIOS screen and on start up I can see the Windows emblem on the monitor, but after that it goes black again. So I dig out my old monitor and hook it up and it works perfectly. My main screen is a Samsung S24D360 hooked up by HDMI to my motherboard, I have no graphics card. My old monitor is a 19 inch HP hooked up by DVI-D. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel Graphics driver, I got a different HDMI cable off of my Blu Ray player and tried that, I scanned for malware and everything, but still no signal on my main monitor. I need help to figure this out. Thanks.

A:Please Help, No Picture On My Main Monitor

I just booted in safe mode and I got identical video in both monitors. I am beginning to think that this is NOT an HDMI handshake problem but it is something else. I just don't know what to do at this point.

Bad picture - Monitor? Video card?

I have a friend who says her Desktop or any window she opens is graying at the top and the window is getting squashed at the bottom. I know that's not a great deal of info, but here's the kicker.

She has sent me three different screenshots and they look perfect on my computer.

Does that give anyone an idea as to what's going wrong?

A:Bad picture - Monitor? Video card?

Sending you a screen shot doesn’t prove anything about her system a screen shot is just data not what she is seeing on her display. And it is probably the monitor, she can check by connecting ether another PC to that monitor or another monitor to that PC.

You could try pressing fn+F7 to see if it cycles to the external display while booting, if it does then just press enter to confirm and save, it's not done via windows but the Sony hardware, so give it a go and good luck.

I am trying to hook up my Pavilion 700 to a Dell CRT monitor. When I plug it in to the VGA and turn it on, the orange light on the monitor goes green (like its supposed to) but nothing displays on the screen. I even removed the add-in video card and just tried using the integrated but with the same results.

I know the monitor is not bad because I just tested it with two other computers and an xbox360.

Any ideas? All help is appreciated.

A:second monitor displays only the desktop picture

You'll need to set it to duplicate, now you have the extended desktop mode on (you can use both monitor individually, ie, move your programs onto the TV display if you want to, your mouse pointer should be able to cross onto the TV display as well).
I'm not 100% sure on how to do it, I don't currently use dual monitors so I can't provide a hand-to-hand instruction set, but a quick Google search should provide you with one. ("set secondary display to duplicate vista", or the like?)

I have two computers, win xp on one 2400 box and win 2000 on the other 600 box, both are patched together boxes with 15 inch monitors. I inherited a 17 inch monitor that requires a double male vga cord (not hardwired?) It will bootup and remain on for about a minute then the monitor will go black and the off on light will blink and make sort of a clicking noise about once per second continuously. I tried a new vga cord no change? What is the problem could it be compatibility or just an internal fuse of somesort? Works the same way on both boxes, go figure?

A:Monitor light blinking- no picture

Possibly your video card? If you have a video card in that computer try swapping it out with your other system and test it in there, and vice versa (if you have a card in your other computer put it in the one that isn't working and see if it works). If you get the same error when you insert that card into the other computer then that would be a good hint. Or if you have onboard video, well......try putting in a card from another computer and see what happens.
