Q: Problems on initializing Samsung 80GB with Samsung's Disk Manager: Ontack(tm)

Problems on initializing Samsung 80GB with Samsung's Disk Manager: Ontrack(tm)

Hi!

There is some problem on my 80gb Samsung HD. The situation is this:

I have had an old computer which have an ancient motherboard.. because of the limitations of motherboard it was initializing Hd as 8gb.. I installed Samsung's Disk Manager program named Ontrack. It does something with the MBR to make the 8gb initialized HD as 80gb! When you're in bios setup, it says your samsung is 8gb but when you reset and wait for the system disk error message Ontrack activates and then your hd is 80 gb, you can install OS after that.

Here is the problem: I bought a new computer whose motherboard to initialize my 80GB hd as 80GB also, but things didn't happen like that. On bios setup it says my HD is 33gb.

I plugged the HD to my other computer and its partition magic 8 says "33gb BAD" also..

A modified MBR by a program (ontrack) can fool bios setup? if so, can i use XP CDs system recovery console with fixmbr command? ?f it is not how can i make my hd back to normal (not for old motherboards, initialized as 80GB)??

New motherboard is MSI RS482M2-IL and because of this problem I cannot enable S.M.A.R.T. feature. I need help and thanks from now on!

If you are using XP then boot fromt eh XP Cd. Then delete the existing partition and create a new one and format that.

The Background :
I built my new P4(3GHz) System in Dec 04. I used the same old 80Gb HDD

I got KTs in Second Yr Engineering which resulted in, me facing my Dad's
real bad temper. The worst thing was that he spent all his anger on my
beautiful System.

Now all I'm left with is a broken cabinet, Cracked MB, non-working FX5700
Ultra, a P3(700mhz) system and a hurt soul.

The Problem :
Apparantly the HDD survived all that (although the plastic around the bus
attachment area was a little broken)

It was working fine. But now after taking a 4 weeks gap to cool things down
WinXp just showed the Partitions for about a Min and it showed no more.
The Bios & XP Device manager shows the HDD, U can feel it working, but it
doesn't display the Partitions.

Please anyone help me! All my VB, Java, C, Photoshop & Flash Projects are
still in it.

Thank You

Hi.
I would do a backup here, and switched on my USB to IDE drive on. But what I get is, that it tell me:

"You must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manger can access it"

The attachment shows what I mean, and I cannot see the drive.
What can I do now ?

A:Initializing a disk before logical disk manager can access it.

I assume you want to backup to disk 1?

I assume it is not initialized. You can't use it if it is not initialized.

So I'd guess from your screenshot that it's asking you to poke "OK".

But maybe I don't understand your problem.

I have both Linux and Windows Vista installed on my notebook. Today when I turned it on I accidentally chose "Samsung Recovery" instead of "Windows Vista" in GRUB. After Samsung Recovery has loaded, I quit it and the computer shut off. I turned it on again and now it doesn't make it to the GRUB, it shows the Samsung logo, then "boot from ahci cd-rom", and then it reboots and shows the samsung logo again. I can enter BIOS (F2), but can't enter Samsung Recovery (F4) anymore (after showing "please wait..." the computer reboots again). I tried setting the BIOS back to default but it didn't help. Any input would be much appreciated...

CLONE FAIL FAIL FAIL

So I have a Haswell i7 rig (GTX 780) with Platinum PSU etc etc... W8.1 Pro (and a few other W8.1 PC`s I tried the clone op with also)........

.... and on the SSD to clone in question, it is a Samsung EVO 250Gb SSD. It seems to work perfect.
But its getting near full~ish.... (30Gb spare)....

... so I bought a Samsung EVO VNAND 500Gb.... (twice the capacity) and thought an easy clone was in store....

(I also have some additional drives I have just disconnected for the Clone op [as the Samsung clone software was being stupid [trying to get me to clone my documents drive to my new SSD]). With or without the other drives connected, it FAILS, FAILS, FAILS.

So; when I try to clone, It gets to about 33% cloned, and then fails.

I tried them all a few times including the SAMSUNG CLONE Software.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there a problem with the 250Gb SSD I don`t know about (I am using this PC with it in now)...

Or will a SAMSUNG EVO not clone to a SAMSUNG VNAND ?

Hi

I've searched on google and through this forum for a couple of hours but can't find something that seems to fit my particular problem.

I have Seagate Freeagent USB drive, which is reported as such in Device manager.

However the drive will not appear with a drive letter.

In disk manager a message reported that the drive was not initialized and when I tried to add a master book record a message appeared

"Logical Disk Manager The system cannot find the file specified"

I know that logical disk manager was a service on XP but in vista64 business, which is what i'm running, I looked in the services and this service is not there. I have plug and play active as is RPC. I've only had vista for a week after building a new computer so I'm unsure of how different the workings are.

Any help someone could give would be much appreciated.

Hi nadmai, Welcome to the forum.

You just need to format the drive, In Disk Management right click on the drive and select Format, as you go through the procedure you will be able to give the drive a letter.

I hope this helps

I have two Samsung NVMe 950 Pro (MZVKV512) that came preinstalled in a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 running Windows 10 x64. The Samsung Magician (latest v4.9.6) software does not detect the drives as Samsung Brand SSDs and therefore OS Optimization is unavailable (the only option is to run a benchmark). Samsung Magician supports this SSD as I can see users in other forums using the software on their systems (not necessarily Lenovo). I have also installed the Samsung NVMe Controller driver and this is showing in Device Manager. There are no system updates available and UEFI BIOS is up to date (version from the 4th May). Any ideas?

Hello Friends.  I successfully installed a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD as a boot drive just fine.  However, it looks like the Windows 10 NVME driver is being used in place of the Samsung NVME driver.  I saw this post here where it says: "Windows is indicating it is using the NVMe driver for this drive." https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-750se-capable-of-M-2-NVMe-... However I do not know how to determine this myself.  I am using a utility called "AIDA64 Extreme" and it's telling me the driver provider for the 950 is Micrososft and the driver version is 10.0.14393.0.  So, how do I get the 950 to use the Samsung driver instead?  Thanks for any help.

Hi, From Samsung tool (Samsung Magician), it shows my machine uses Samsung firmware, no information about driver. It uses Microsoft driver. The tool allows use to check and update firmware but not driver. Regards.

After installing Samsung Touch Supporter on my non-samsung PC,I get this:

"This Program only runs on a Samsung PC.
Program will terminate."

I try to use some of the software that came with the Samsung Series 7 PC.
I will not let me open the program.
I have an Archos 9 PC and would like to use it.

Can anyone make it so that I can install this software on any other PC?
Sometimes it's a simple edit, can anyone look in to this?

Software can be downloaded from the Samsung website here(it's under manuals & downloads/software):
Support - Tablet PCs XE700T1A | Samsung Tablet PCs

May you please attempt to fix Play Touch App (Software) (ver.1.0.0.33),Play Touch Luancher (Software) (ver.1.2.0.32), and Touch Supporter (Software) (ver.1.2.0.10)

Note: Play Touch Laucher says the same message as above, but still manages to open, Touch Supporter does not though

A:Samsung Series 7 software on non-Samsung PC.

That software is only licensed to use on the Samsung PC it came on, so I don't know why you would expect it to work on any other PC.

Samsung is also the most difficult model to get the OEM software to work after a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is entirely legal and recommended for most users of preinstalled Windows to get the best Win7 performance.

But for Samsung it's especially important to back up the Recovery Image and make a secondary Win7 backup image so that if any features are missing after Clean Reinstall and the Samsung software won't work correctly, you can set it back to factory condition.

Can anyone tell me if I have a resourse conflict with my cdrw/dvd combo drive? How do I fix it? This problem has only been happening lately since a fresh install of w2k (sp4). Sometimes it works fine but other times nothing happens when I put a cd in the drive and it:-

Is not present when I open My Computer:
When this happens it is not present in Device Manager either. This was the case earlier and I "scanned for hardware changes". It picked up the drive and then my pc crashed/restarted.

On restart I got a blue screen with the message - UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP and to "do a memory check". - How do I do this?

On a further restart, it hung for a while when checking IDE "something" and gave a message saying "the primary IDE cable was not connected". I opened the box and checked all cables and restarted - its been fine so far.

When it is present in My Computer, the following happens:
When I right - click the drive, and go into properties/hardware, it is listed there, but the hdd is highlighted by default. Is this normal.?
When I go to Device Manager, the cdrw/dvd drive is listed, it tells me that the device is working properly. There is no resources tab. Is this normal?

Try the freezer trick. Place your hard drive in zip lock freezer bag to protect it from moisture and freeze it overnight (or a few hours at least). Quickly hook up the frozen hard drive and try to boot from it. If it works, be prepared to copy your important data as soon as possible before the hard drive warms up too much. This is not a permanent fix but it may work long enough to save your data.

The 32-gigabyte (GB) NAND flash-based solid state disk (SSD) can upload and download data quickly and quietly as it uses instantly-accessible static NAND flash memory instead of the rotating discs found in hard drives.

SSD weighs only half as much as a hard drive, reads data three times faster and writes data 1,5 times quicker, it said.

It consumes a mere five percent of the electricity needed to power a hard disk drive and operates silently as it requires no motor or any other noise-making parts.

A:Samsung develops drive to replace hard disk

Awesome. Solid-state memory needs to replace ferromagnetic plates of glass. Methinks this step in technology is long overdue.

I know about the immediate 'loss' of disk space owing to the two different methods of measurement. 1Tb to 931Gb - it's annoying, but I'm used to it.

No, before a defrag by Fixbee I had 701Gb free, afterwards - in a matter of 2 hours - I had 537Gb. Obviously, I'm not going to use this product again, where a clean-up is obviosly a 'dirt up', but how do I undo the damage that it's caused - especially if it's not the only 'clean up' tool that might do this?

Purchased a Samsung cd/rw SW-248 drive, after installing the hardware the drive was recognized by Windows XP Professional. Unfortunately, every time that I insert an audio cd or data cd, the drive will not read it whatsoever. Any suggestions? This is a brand new drive originally set as the slave drive, with the master being a 40x cd rom drive. I thought that it may have been a problem with jumpers so I set both of the drives to cable select. The 40x drive still works but the samsung cd/rw still doesn't read anything. Mod Edit:  Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/575708/looking-for-a-windows-oem-iso-file-to-use-f-a-new-install/ - Hamluis.

Sorry to hijack this thread.  I've been searching the web and this thread is the most help I've found so far.

I have a Samsung NP-QX411L (or I, cant really tell) that my wife gave me as a valentines gift when we were dating.  I say that to explain, I either do not have or cannot find whatever came with the computer including documents and discs.  She swears I have them somewhere, I swear she never gave them to me.

Couple days ago I got a notification to update Flash and I did.  It then prompted me to restart and I did.  Rather than reboot, it now gives me an error and asks me to insert the Windows disc that came with the computer.

I have tried downloading and booting from:

A Windows 7 Home x32 repair disc.  It booted from the disc but could not find an OS
A Windows 7 Home x64 repair disc.  It wouldnt even boot
A Windows 7 Home Premium x86 disc that I believe I was able to find and burn as a result of this thread (iso ending in 996).  It booted from the disc but could not find an OS.

I am now looking for a Home Premium x64 ISO and am going to try that.  If I cant find one or that doesnt work then I am out of ideas.

I need the computer for work by Saturday.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi guys,

Not really sure where to post this one.

I have a samsung R700 laptop which has caused me massive amounts of bother. Its 2 years old, and for the last 18 moths of its poor life has had numerous issues with the screen.

It flickers, and then blacks out. Basically.

I can still see the screen when I move the screen into the light, and if I hold the left hand side of the screen tightly, it doesnt go off (random I know).

Ive had if in 3 different repair shops, and forked out a small fortune on a new fan, a power port and various other things. The shop guys always hand it back in working order - but the screen fails again within a few weeks.

I need the screen to work for business now, so do I sell it, or has anyone any idea what my problem is?
If I do sell it, how much should I realistically be selling for, and wheres the best place to do so?

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Broken laptops are not worth much. Sounds like the inverter may be shot, or the cable to it is damaged.

I'm confused, you say it's a 2 years old and it hasn't work right in the last 18 months? It had a 1 year warranty, possibly even a 2 year warranty, why not have it repaired under the warranty by the manufacturer?

Just hooked up a new Samsung model 997DF 19" flat screen crt monitor. The color is faded badly . Installed the Magictune software that came with it, but it doesn't seem to do much. Is this just the way things are going to be, or can I resolve the problem? Bought this thing from Circuit City over the telephone, so returning it would be a real hassle. When I change the screen resolution the icons and text are very small and hard to see, so that isn't much of an alternative. Thanks!

A:Samsung CRT Monitor problems

I use a Samsung 915n 19" lcd. The colors are incredible. I doubt you have a defective monitor. Have you tried the normal adjust buttons on the front face of the monitor itself?

Changing resolution does require some minor adjustments to your icons and other preferences. That can be done in start>settings>control panel>display>appearance>"advanced" button. (or right click on an empty spot on your desktop, and click "properties") From that place you can change the sizes of any one of your items.

good luck

Hey there,

I recently purchased a 22" samsung 226BW. Very nice monitor, however, I have noticed every few minutes the screen shifts over to the right... then a few minutes pass again and its shifted down a little bit... What is odd is that if I hit any button for the OSD menu, it "pops" back to normal. (fitting the screen). It seems to be a timing issue or something.. I have done some research and tried playing with the timing settings but it keeps getting set back to "auto" in the nvidia control panel. The max pixel clock for this monitor is 146mhz and resolution 1680x1050 60hz. (what I am running it at now).

I have played with the scaling options (adapter, display, fixed aspect ratio, centered).

I have tried 59hz refresh, changing to GMT/DMT/CVT timings, switching DVI's, and even installing new video drivers but nothing seems to work... Any ideas?

I'm running a BFG 7600GT PCI express on an Asus a8n-sli deluxe. maybe its my video card?

Im totally stumped..

Im using a custom built tower I put together at Christmas. It's not the greatest, but it works well, and I'm happy. It was water cooled, but the raijintek aio leaked and took out a r9 280 and a ti 650 so I went to a evo 212. Everything was fine until I got a new 65 inch samsung ultra hi def tv that I use as a monitor. It replaced a Sharp 60 inch that wasn't a problem. After my 2nd water leak, I installed a r7 240 I had laying around, and it was fine for my sharp tv, but wasn't up to my samsung tv in 4096x2160 resolution. So, I bought a pny gtx 960 4 gig gddr5 card. Problem !! Even at 3840x2160 resolution, so of my things come up so small I cant even read them and there's no way to make them bigger !! I need to adjust my logitech keyboard and mouse settings, and when I pull it up, the type is super small and some of it is layered on top of other print. Can anyone help please ?? I have a Samsung 172B LCD monitor now abt 2.5 yrs old which has suddenly developed an annoying problem: -after 20 mins inactivity the monitor blanks with Power Saver settings and when reactivated it presents with a 'pixel curtain' effect -not black but as if there is light behind, then slowly line by line in quarter screen bands it begins to clear as if it is in some kind of interlace mode and after 3-5 minutes is back to normal again. Wierd...

Have reinstalled the latest drivers for monitor and Video card: RADEON 9700 pro
Have also changed VGA cable to no avail....

So I've had this monitor for a while, it's served me faithfully. I'm having a problem though, which seems to have started happening while playing World of Warcraft. I'm not entirely sure if it's related or what, but I do know it's an RTA problem.

When it's turned on I'm getting colors with red/yellow in them look like they're being seen through an old television, pixellated lines and blotchy.

When I turn it off, it's completely normal. Any ideas?

I have a samsung laptop, NP-QX410. It's about 3 years old now, and has for the most part worked great for those 3 years.

I'm extremely uneducated when it comes to computers, so you'll have to bare with me.
Beginning yesterday, the laptop just about locked up (When I say locked up, I mean went incredibly slow. I couldn't use the internet, couldn't open programs, things I had open would stop responding). I had been using it for about 2 hours prior, and nothing had happened to it to cause it to lock up (such as damage) and I hadn't downloaded any programs. Even trying to open the control panel with control alt delete was taking a long time. I decide to simply restart the laptop, but the problem still continues when it's turned back on.
It wasn't completely locked up though which was the weird part. It would have these "moments" where it would lock up, and go incredibly slow for about 5 minutes, then work perfectly normal for the next 5 minutes. Sometimes opening a webpage would cause one of these "lock ups" and then closing it would somehow fix it.
After looking around a bit, I've noticed a correlation where whenever the laptop goes into a phase where it goes incredibly slow, the disk activity shows "100% Highest Active Time". Then when it goes back to normal, the disk activity drops to anywhere from 0%-15% (where it probably should be). The CPU usage and physical memory usage are still fine and don&#... Read more

Those links don't go anywhere.

Do you have a UEFI BIOS? If so then what are the BIOS settings for UEFI, CSM, Legacy BIOS, Secure Boot and BIOS Boot order priority? Pictures will help if you're confused. UEFI installs also require special steps if using a Flash stick installer and booting the DVD or stick as a UEFI device to delete all partitions during install.

I have went to the samsung website but nothing is available (unless i have missed it but that unlikely). Is it neccessary for it to have the driver for the smb and where can i get it? Thanks!!!

A:SM bus Controller driver problems with samsung

Go to Samsung and download the chipset drivers for your particular model. The SMB controller driver will be enclosed in it. You may have to install the whole chipset file to get the SMB controller driver. I would make a restore point and a backup prior to installing. In case of a failure you can get back to the starting point.

Hi.

My Samsung T-220HD Tv, with built in DBC-T tuner, scart and Pc dvi input, has some problems showing some tv channels...

The problem is that on some of the channels, has flicker on them, except on the top of the screen!

I have tried many things to fix this, and here is a list of ALL of the stuff i did:

Taking it to the store where i bought it. They tested it, but they say it has zero problems...
Tried it at 3 different homes, with same resoults...
Tried different cables...
Contacted Samsung, they send me a new used screen. It is exactly the same, but still same problem?
Tried to test it 3 different places in my house. Again, same prob.
My old tv has no flicker...

So if anyone could please help me with this, i would be so happy.

Thanks

Hello and thank you in advance for your help!

I bought a new Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for my old aging computer and this happened:

1. Cloned my old c: drive to the ssd, replaced it and everything went fine for a while until i started getting an infinite loop.
Windows wouldn't boot. Did a registry recovery via command line but my windows installation went to hell to forcing me to reinstall.

2. From this point everything went to hell, and after multiple windows reinstalls here's some of what happens:
- Windows installs but errors immediately follows;
- Some windows updates install but eventually start failing until windows update fails completely;
- Windows installs, updates install but eventually windows fails to load and enters repair mode claiming startup errors;
- Programs stop working for no apparent reason, some examples: Browsers won't run, file associations disappear (class registration errors), explorer;
- Driver problems with peripherals,
- File system corruption errors;
- I got situations where the computer would get stuck in a reboot/system restore/repair loop
- Automatic and manual restore points disappear making it impossible to restore to an earlier time;
- Changing the sata mode to IDE instead of AHCI seems to solve some of these issues but eventually the system locks up, the hdd light stays on, and after a reset the ssd doesn?t get recognized at startup. I have to power off to get it back but it?s the same all over again.

First of all hello to everyone here, I've been browsing these forums for an answer to my issue but couldn't find anything in the FAQ about my specific problem. I followed the directions in the FAQ as well as those on the Intel site but I am still having issues. I ran the Intel system compatibility and driver checker, and it says that I have the proper Graphics Diver for my Intel3000 (9.17.10.2867), the proper WiFi driver for my Centrino Ultimate N 6300 (15.5.6.0), and the new WiDi driver (3.5.40). I have a Samsung Series 9 (original model) and a Belkin Screencast. When I open the WiDi software and turn on my Screencast, it shows up immediately in the connection menu on my laptop. When I connect, it goes through the security setup, then takes me back to the main WiDi screen. After this, I try to connect again, and it gives me a message: something to the effect of "while connecting to your device, your internet connection will be lost. It will be restored after the connection is made". I never had this step involved in the process with windows 7. When I click continue, it shows that it is connecting on the laptop, and the TV (connected by HDMI to the screencast) confirms that the two are connected, but the WiDi application still shows "connecting", and never fully connects. I have tried powering both off and restarting the process, I have tried to have the laptop forget the screencast and start from scratch, and nothing is working. I look forward... Read more

Would anyone know the root cause for this problem.

23 inch monitor with HDMI to HDMI conection. Native resolution is correct, although the Windows screen on the monitor is just a little too big. i.e Start button is half off the bottom left corner and when a window is maximized, the minimize, maximize and close buttons of the window are just off of the top right hand corner.

Would this be a Monitor driver problem, Inegrated graphics card problem, or Windows 7-64 bit problem?

any suggestion would be helpfull on how to resolve or where to look for a fix.

I'm building two new machines right now. Both are using
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 MOBOs and I got 4 Samsung 80gig.
SP0802n HDD's. two per machine.
I now found out that these two pieces of harware do not play nice.

The HDD's are ATA133 but will only run at ATA100 when used on
these MOBO's. There is some issue with the IDE controller on the
board OR the drives, neither company admits that the problem
is with their product.

Here is the URL to the Gigabyte sites error report:

Q: "Why is the Samsung hard disk supporting ATA133 detected as ATA100 on a ATA133-supported motherboard? ... :"

A: "This is related to the hard drive. For the detailed information about this issue, please refer to Samsung's website: http://www.samsung.com/Products/Har..._0000007938.htm"

Samsungs reponse is:
"Please note that this issue is caused by the incompatibility between the motherboard and HDD(s), not by the faulty Samsung hard disk drive."

Did they say "faulty Samsung hard disk drive." ?

Well they run pretty good at UDMA 5 so i'll just keep them....but

A:Gigabyte MB and Samsung ATA133 HDD Problems

I would send the responses of both companies to the other company. That way they can see that you are getting the run around. Hopefully, you are not the only one talking to them so that they can see this is a real issue. Unfortunately, companies do not always like to admit they are wrong, but once the issue is resolved, they like to provide the fix and look like the heros... Keep in contact with them and send them any info you find in the forums. More than likely it will be a bios fix, but if there are not enough people complaining, it probably won't go fixed right away...

A friend's Samsung laptop would no longer boot, and startup repair would run and failed several times.

We planned to restore it to factory original, but wanted to boot to a Linux disk to copy his files first. In order to allow that, we went into Setup and disabled Fast Bios mode, disabled Secure Boot, and changed the OS mode from UEFI to CSM. We booted the Linux disk, copied his files, then reset all the Setup settings back. But now the computer will not boot at all, it shows the Samsung logo screen, then shuts itself off. We reset Setup to Optimized Defaults, made no change.

There does not seem to be any hardware failure since I can still boot to the Linux disk and see the hard drive if I make all the same changes that we made the first time around in Setup. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks
edit: corrected some BIOS terms

A:Samsung laptop boot problems

Samsung probably has some documented method to troubleshoot while booting. Something like holding down a key or two while powering on. Then, beep codes could be heard that tell what the problem could be, when looked up. I'd check into that.

Check if the bios is set to AHCI or not.

I know people like having their recovery partitions - but - if this was my machine, I'd use Killdisk on the hdd. I'm the type that disables System Restore and never has any backup whatsoever for the OS itself besides install media, and since I am very knowledgeable, it's always been smooth sailing for me like this. Others perhaps not.

(My Windows 7 on my main machine has been the same install since early betas. I just recently was given a motherboard, memory and cpu which were all better than what I had - so I bit the bullet and clean installed Windows for it, heh.)

But, ya. If you have an install disk, then Killdisk might not be a bad idea for ya.

-1920 x 1080 (A bit to big for my screen, although looks really nice)
-720 x 480 (Doesn't fit at all)

Are there any ways to make more screen resolution options available?

For many months, I have been dealing with a frustrating issue when connecting my external Samsung SSD T1 (500 GB) to my Yoga 2 Pro laptop.  After two weeks dealing with Samsung tech support and getting a new unit, I am convinced the problem lies with the Yoga 2 and not the drive.  (The drive does not suffer the issues described below with either of my two desktop machines.) The external SSD is supposed to launch an "unlock" window upon connection, allowing you to enter a password to unlock the drive.  When I connect it to the Yoga 2 Pro, it acts as if it is going to work, but then the disk seems to "hang" and stop communicating with the laptop.  I can see the disk in File Explorer, and even open the drive folder to see the executable inside that needs to run.  But when I double-click the unlock program, it hangs.  The entire drive becomes unresponsive.  I see this behavior regardless of (A) the drive is connected before the laptop is powered on; or (B) when I let the laptop fully boot and then connect the drive afterward.  Either way, same problem. With me so far?  So here's the piece I find bizarre.  I have found that I can resolve the issue by doing a hard reset to the laptop.  Holding in the power button for ten seconds to force a power-down of the laptop.  If I do that and then restart the laptop, everything comes back up fine and the drive works exactly as it is supposed to.  But the next tim... A:Problems with Samsung monitor not coming on

Carolyn,

It sounds like you have done a good job in finding out that your monitor is going south. It is a Samsung and a lot of them have a 3 year warranty, have you checked this out? I would try that first and if it's not under warranty, I would either take it to a local shop where they can give you an estimate or as low as prices are today, might be time to get a new one. I have been using Samsung and ViewSonic because of the 3 year warranty and because they are excellent monitors.

PS, just checked on that monitor and it came with a one year warranty
Take a look 3 year warranty.

It only recognizes 30GB of it in bios and in Windows XP Pro, yet i have another 60GB HDD installed on my pc that works fine (quantum). I don't know if there are special jumper settings or some kind of update i need to install or what. Any Help would be appreciated.

i have just bought a samsung sp2504c 250gb hard drive. ihad a westerndigital wd170aa 17gb hard drive in it but it was faulty so i binned it + put windows xp home edition on it. the problem is: when i go to my computer + look under devices with removable storage it has an icon of a box with a cd + says vrmhoem_en(d when i double click it it gives me some option, 1 of which is to install windows. can anyone tell me what this is + whether i need it or not? another problem i have is when i go to my computer + look under hard drives, it says local disk(c. when i hover over it it says total space:232gb + free space:231. why does it say this as i havent installed or downloaded anything? ive only put windows on it. i havent even installed the drivers from my motherboard cd. my specs are: amd athlon 64 3000+ cpu, asrock k8 upgrade vm800 mobo, 256mb elixir ddr400 pc3200 184 pin ram, 250gb samsung sp2504c hdd, 2x cd/dvd rewriters(1x dual layer). any help is always appreciated...thanks

A:problems with samsung sp2504c hard drive

That is because the removable storage device that you double clicked on is your cd/dvd drive with removable storage disc (your win xp home cd) in so you should not re install it unless you really need to .

so remove it from your drive because it will also slow your startup or your system might even boot straight from your win xp home cd and start setup again.

The drive in my computer says Local disk because it on your computer (local) but if it were some disk on a computer that you accessed via a network it would say Remote disk or remote storage device.

so if you want to change the label on that drive just click on it once to highlight it then click on it again, then just type another name like "Storage, Backup, System" but you cant have a name with more than 16 characters i think.

Your free space is only that much because you have windows installed on it and it is the File system, formatting and partition tables etc..that uses up the rest of the space so that is why your 250gb looks as if you have lost 18gb.

hope that explains everything?

I have a problem with my new Samsung ML-1630. When I try to install it using the provided CD, it is installed by default onto the FILE printer port rather than USB001, and, changing it to USB001, I get no response from the printer and all documents fail to print.

I try installing it without CD on a different vista machine, all works fine, it downloads the driver from windows update, printer works fine. Doing the same on my vista laptop, I get an error message saying "USB printing support: the System cannot find the file specified".

I try installing the printer manually, no luck, i've pasted backup copies of usbprint.sys and associated files in and rebooted to no effect, I've deleted INFCACHE.1 and rebooted, still no success, and I've pretty much run out of things to do.

The printer does appear in the device manager, and is recognised as a ML-1630, but its properties say drivers are not installed (Code 28).

One difference I noted between the install on a 'working' machine and my laptop is that when it worked, the "installing device driver software" screen showed two lines, one showing USB printing support is OK, and the other searching for the ML1630 driver. On my laptop that first line is not present.

Aside from reinstalling windows, what can I do? I would like to try reinstalling the vista USB printer drivers, but I think that's easier said than done, and they don't seem to be available anywhere.

My laptop is a Packard Bell Easynote, Vista Home Prem... Read more

Hello again,

I recently noticed a yellow triangle in the far top left corner of my Samsung 204B 20.1" monitor and was wondering what the cause of it is. It's a distinct area of discoloration that is normally unoticable but I was wondering if this is something I should be worried about, or if I should try to get a replacement.

I can't imagine this is something I can fix on my own. The triangle is only slightly bigger than my mouse pointer... when running in 1600x1200 resolution.
I also have another slight problem. This happens very rarely but sometimes when I start my computer and turn the monitor on, the monitor displays everything but with a checkerboard-like pattern over it. It's not a perfect checkerboard but all the shapes are distorted and its very odd. Normally all I do is shut off the computer, unplug and reconnect wires going to the monitor, and restart my computer. And then it doesn't happen again for a while.

I haven't got to see much of this, because normally I turn my computer right off, but the first couple screens while loading up continue to have this strange distorted pattern.

Any advise on a plan of attack to fix these weird problems would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

I have been trying --without success--  to get my Spectre x360 15t (with Intel Isis 540 graphics and the I7 6560 processor) to work reliably in the UHD Color mode (4:4:4 chroma), at 60 Hz (60p) with a Samsung UN40KU6300 TV. This is a UHD (3840x2160) TV, with the UHD Color capability on the HDMI port 1. I have, in fact, been able to get the TV to recognize the laptop output in the correct mode (3840x2160 60p UHD Color) several times, which required the workaround whereby the HDMI cable had to be unplugged while the computer was booting, and plugged in only after the boot was finished. The TV has the UHD Color mode enabled on port 1. When the cable is finally plugged in, the display SOMETIMES recognizes the connection and clicks into the right mode. Other times, it'll just flash the computer desktop image briefly (for half a second), and then the signal is lost (and the message appears on the TV to that effect). Even when the correct connection is established, it is easily lost if I replug the cable, or reboot the computer WITHOUT unplugging the cable. When replugging the cable live, sometimes the TV displays the message that the resolution is incorrect on source. I have verified that the display configuration is correct in the Intel Graphics control panel, where the external display does, in fact, appear as "Digital Television Samsung", at the 3840x2160 resolution and at 60Hz. The TV has a lot LESS trouble recognizing a 3840x2160 60p connecti... I have just replaced my broken HP DV5 laptop (windows7) with a new Samsung NP350V5C-A08 with window 8 already installed. I am having major problems working out how to change the boot order.
On my HP the boot order was:
a) Optical disc drive.
b) Usb external hard drive.
c) Internal hard drive.

This configuration allowed firstly to upload Ubuntu 12.10 from a disc in the optical drive onto the external drive, this allowed me to run Ubuntu from an external hard drive, this saved me from having to partition the internal hard drive and I believe invalidating the guarantee.
With my new Samsung I cannot get to list the boot options in the bios (the only option is the internal Hitachi drive), I have been on the phone to Samsung but they could not help me and told me to contact Microsoft.

Does anybody have any ideas how I can run Ubuntu like I did with my HP laptop.
Regards.

Hi, i recently restored my windows 7 laptop and everything went fine. I backed it up and everything. And before i restored it, i used to be able to connect to the wifi automatically. Now, instead of it showing the bars that you see on the bottom of your screen that shows that it can be connected to a network, now it shows an icon of a computer with a red X on it. I have tried several things but nothing seems to work. For example, i have tried "netsh wlan show drivers" on Command Prompt and it just says "There is no wireless interface on the system." I have also tried going on Services and set WLAN Autoconfig to Automatic and i changed the status to 'Started'. And I did the same with Network Connections, Network List Service, Network Location Awareness, and Network Store Interface Service. I have also gone to Network and Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings. There it just has the picture of a 2 monitors and it says Bluetooth Network Connection, but it says "Not Connected". Someone please help me. Thanks for reading.

Basically;

I think it's been happening for a month now. My laptop screen 'glitches' - the images distorting and sometimes green text appearing - before righting itself and crashing. The only way I can get the laptop to function again is to turn it off via the power button or take the battery out and put it back it again. It has also become slow starting up - taking at least five minutes before you can log in and then a further five before you can actually do anything. The cursor sometimes gets stuck in the center of the screen - I can access things using the tab screen but the cursor won't move, whether I use the laptop touchpad or my USB mouse. The fan has also been sporadically speeding up before calming down again - even though I've been doing the same thing for the past god knows when.

I've done a boot-up scan using avast, had a look through all of my files and gotten rid of any old files that I don't need on there, in an attempt to create some space but I've got about 600-700 gb free so I can't see why that should be a problem. Nothing happens before the glitches/crashes so I don't think I'm causing it by moving it and so on.

About a month ago, the charger port was fixed at a laptop repair shop, and then the laptop itself was sent off to SAMSUNG to have the motherboard replaced because I mistakenly wiped the bios (since one driver update shut the laptop off in the middle of the bios update) so I don't know if... This sort of problem is tough to troubleshoot over the internet. It could be quite a few things that could cause the symptoms that you're experiencing. With that said, I'd probably start with updating the discrete GPU drivers. Since you did switch from integrated to discrete, this could be the main cause for the graphic glitches which is probably crashing the system.

Moving forward, I think you should download something like CPU-Z to monitor the CPU load and temperatures during the crashes. It could be that your CPU is overheating and could use some attention.

After several attempts in asking Samsung for a recovery disc (which shouldn't they come with your computer?), I finally received an answer. I was told that they do not have one available yet. I actually purchased this computer from HSN and I have had problems from day one. But since I am not a computer expert, I didn't know there was something wrong with the computer and not me, since I had never used windows 8. By the time I ordered a windows 8 book I was over the 30 days for HSN to help me. Not nice! Since the software suite Gold - Vol. II (19 software titles) either don't mesh with this operating system or the certificates are expired. It literally has been one problem after another. I really don't know what to do or where to turn. I am just hoping that a really nice person out there is willing to help me. Since most of the help has been websites selling antivirus or something.

I have set up a secure area on a Samsung USB Flash Drive using the Samsung software, but when I run the software on a second PC, the second PC crashes. So I would like to abandon the Samsung software, and instead use TrueCrypt. However. . . .

The Samsung software allows you to set up a private, password-protected partition in addition to the public partition, and enables you to switch from one to the other. Only one partition is visible to Windows (including in Computer Management). You are supposed to be able to adjust the partition by choosing the ?Format? option in the Samsung software, but the Samsung software has stopped displaying the option! So I cannot undo the partitioning, and half the drive is inaccessible to Windows.

The Samsung software that I am using variously describes itself as ?USB Disk Pro?, ?Security Utility ver. 2.67.00) and SecurePenDrive.

So, if anyone can answer any of these questions I might be able to move forward:
?
? Why has the ?Format? option disappeared from the Samsung software window / how can I get it back?
? Where can I download a later version of the Samsung software?
? How can I override the Samsung software, and reformat the whole drive as a single partition again?
? Where can I get support for USB Flash Drives within the Samsung empire ( - despite my best efforts, I have been unable to find this?)

Hi,
I have a Samsung NP350V5c-A02UK and today I noticed that the CD/DVD drive was not working. It didn't show in My Computer and when I put a CD nothing came up on screen. I looked on the internet and found that I had to look in device manager to see the problem. So I did and I clicked on my CD/DVD drive and it had a explanation mark in a yellow triangle and it said
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I found this website http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/code-19-error.htm
and I tried step 4. I uninstalled the driver however I don't have the driver file to reinstall it and get the CD/DVD Drive working again. I looked on the internet and I couldn't find it to download. If you can please can you tell me where to download it because I need the CD Drive for work and my children need it for school work. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Heya guys,

I've just stuck 64bit windows on my samsung NP-R700 and its proving to be a pain in the backside! Samsung are still a blast from the past and not making 64bit drivers according to their IT support on the phone.

Anyways, I've got all but one of the drivers/utilities. It's the one that lets you use your function keys. Installing the right touchpad drivers and sound drivers made some of the function keys to work, but according to their tech support I need the display manager program. For some reason I can't seem to get back to the samsung site to try and download it and its driving me crazy!

If anyone could get me a direct link i'd be really grateful

Samsung told me it could be a software problem with my MS Office - Word. Before uninstalling and reinstalling those programs want to know someone elses opinion.

But it will not do anything. I can hit copy and you can hear something scanning or something going on but it does not even try to take the paper it just sits there after printing. That is all it will do.

Update (March 10) - This seems to be a problem others have had, but no solutions yet. See the Microsoft Forum post...

I have had some difficulty installing the drivers for the automatic rotation function for the Samsung Series 7. It worked fine with the developer preview, but I did a clean install of the Consumer preview, and I am no longer able to install it.

I downloaded the windows 7 drivers (Motion_Sensor_1.7.9.7) and ran using the Windows 7 compatibility. The software appeared to instal, but the device manager shows that it is not working, and the status indicates that Windows cannot load the drivers required.

To make this a bit more mysterious, I can't uninstall the drivers since the uninstall program kicks off an error that the program cannot run because it is awaiting a reboot. I have rebooted several times, but this does not appear to be a real issue.

My question is if anyone has encountered this sort of trouble, and what work-arounds might have worked. The other question is whether there is a particular registry entry to look for to unlock the 'waiting for reboot' issue?

Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately, my network drivers were lost and upon trying to install new drivers from the manufacture site a prompt appeared telling me that "The Device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system". I know this is impossible because I had wi-fi on the starter version.

My husband is having problems with his Samsung Jack, which is running Windows Mobile 6.5, with the Mobile Windows Media Player. When he plays a song, it plays for a while, stops, and starts again, over and again.

The menu commands do not respond well, either not at all or very slowly and sluggishly. He found a button set area under Options, but you can have the enter button play, pause, start or stop, where before the enter button would go through those commands in sequence. Music just keeps playing, and the start/stop does not work. The overall program performs poorly and is unacceptable.

Previously, he had a Motorola Q in Mobile 6.0, the Media Player worked just fine.

Im an expat living in Veracruz Mx and have used Samsung monitors for many years in the US. I recently purchased 4 710 N monitors. after 6 months 2 failed for various reasons. I returned them to Samsung here and 3 months later they replaced them with 701 N's That was 6 months ago. Yesterday I switched one of them on and it came up with a solid white screen, all pixels on. I disconnected the monitor from the desktop and connected it to the laptop and same result. Additionally with the white screen none of the on screen menus will come up nor will it display video.....What Im wondering is short of a hardware failure (probable) has the monitor somehow entered a test mode which switches all the pixels on?? Are there not commonly known easter eggs (hold down button 3 and button 1 for example when powering up to enter test mode?) that I may have inadvertently activated, and if so how to reset things (if in fact thats the case). I REALLY dont want to return the monitor to service here because it s so lousy! Three MONTHS for a warranty replacement. any light anyone could shed on this problem would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks for the excellent forum. Additionally I did a forum search before posting and was not able to find any problem like this
