HP Support Assistant update messes with my keyboard

Q: HP Support Assistant update messes with my keyboard

I need help on figuring out how to undo an update from HP Support Assistant.

This update screws with just about all of my keys.

Either of the keys will stop working as if I can't move in-game, my character would also move by itself without me holding anything. I could press tab to open up the scoreboard but doesn't come up the first time I press tab.

Iv'e tried two system restores and tried unistalling updates. I can't figure out if its an update or a process in the task manager

This update came up around 11:00 PM - 12:30 AM 11/30/2015, around midnight.

HP Support Assistant had an update on 11/30/2015, random keys were affected by this. (w,a,s,d,r,Tab,etc.)

My keys won't work properly, I could press and hold w and it won't come active but when pressing it again a second later, it'll work.

my keys would also become active just by pressing it but not holding it as in, it would just spam a later after pressing it once, this applies to all of the keys i mentioned.

I can't determine whether its an update, process, services or anything.

Iv'e tried two system restores, even before 11/30 and I still have this problem.

I'll provide images of the updates and services:

These are the updates I removed +more added

here's all of the running services.

Just recently I have had a problem with HPSA not updating with any of the updates there have been. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and now no updates are there. I have tried checking for updates and messages but after it connects, it then fails (shows gray x-mark instead of green checkmark) to complete the remaining steps: Downloading messages and updates definitionGathering configuration informationAnalyzing your systemPreparing the action listI have tried doing an advanced uninstall through Revo and reinstalling through the website but with no success.  I did not uninstall the framework as I felt this could cause more problems.  Are there any suggestions? @troubleshoot411?, welcome to the forum. I agree with using Revo.  It is my go to app for malware.  When you used Revo, did you use the Advanced option?  This will not only remove the program from the HDD, but it removes any remnants from the BIOS.  If not, this could be the problem.  I suggest trying the Advanced option to remove HPSA and shut down the computer.  Then, boot and reinstall HPSA from here. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

After an HP support assistant initiated update the computer will not boot.  I get a blue screen (not BSOD) that says :  "Boot device not found .  Please install an operating system on your hard disk.   Hard Disk - (3F0)"   I tried booting from a CD and running BootRec /FixMBR, BootRec /FixBoot, and BootRec /rebuildBCD (separate operations of course) but it did nothing.   I found that if I boot into the bios manu and choose "Load defaults and exit" the unit will boot normally, that one time.  The next time I get the same error screen.  Thinking it may be a setup retention issue I changed the CR2032 coin battery but it did not help. To summerize,  this happened after an update; no changes were made to the bios/UEFI settings, secure boot is enabled and  the first boot device is "boot manager". Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, HP Support Assistant has suggested three updates for my system. When trying to download them using the Assistant, all installations failed (a phenomenon that was described by some other posters in this forum). So I looked for each of the three updates directly in the HP site, after finding my computer and operating system there (HP notebook 15-ay011nr, windows 10 64-bit).I could find two of the updates, but not the third, which is called:  "Intel WLAN software for Micorsoft Windows", with Softpaq number SP76133, version 18.40.0.9Pp2 if it's relevant. When I looked for this softpaq number in the site, I found it, but saw that it is only for windows 7 and 8. Why does the HP support assistant suggest this as an update for my win 10 system?Am I supposed to download it?If not, is there a way to stop the support assistant from thinking that I should install it? Thanks!  Eitan

I'm afraid to restart computer, or stop the installation. If I stop it and install a Bios update from somewhre else, would that fix possibly bad installation? Thanks in advance,Milo?

A:Bios update stuck (HP Support Assistant)

Hi, You're welcome  The flash would have occurred at boot, so as this didn't happen, your existing bios revision will not have been affected. My personal opinion would be to not update the bios unless the update corrects a problem you are experiencing or adds additional functionality that you require - if the machine is running Ok, then there's really no need to update. Note:  I see from your screenshot that your current bios revision is F.1A - there are 2 later revions listed for your notebook.  HP Bios updates are cumulative, so if you do wish to update, the latest version will contain all the fixes/enhancements offered by previous versions - the latest revision listed is Here. Regards, DP-K

HP Support Assistant is giving me a !! notice for SP77117 - an Intel graphics update.  HPSA fails to install, when I tell it to install the update. I tried manually downloading the SP, even though the page I got it from does not list Windows 10 as a compatible OS (it listed Windows 7 through 8.1).  I downloaded and tried to install it anyway, and the installer quits, saying my computer doesn't meet minimum requirements. I downloaded the latest versions of the nVidia and Intel graphics drivers, and installed them successfully, but HPSA still insists that I need SP77117. How do I convince HPSA that I can't use that SP?

HP Support Assistant showed a number of new driver updates for my zBook G2- I was able to update and install most of them, but a few always show "Installation Failed" at the end. Downloading appears to be working, then it shows "Installing...", and after a minute or two a popup shows "Installation Failed!". No explanation or indication of why it failed. The failing updates are: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI SP73263HP Bios Config Utility (BCU) SP74840HP Universal Camera Driver 2014 SP70322 Note that I have recently installed Bitdefender Total Security 2016 (Anti-virus & Firewall), and I suspect it may be at fault, simply because I have never experienced failed updates through HP Support Assistant before. I have switched off as much of Bitdefender as I can, and tried the updates, but they still fail. Unfortunately there is no way to disable Bitdefender entirely, without totally uninstalling it. Is there a known issue with Bitdefender and HP Support Assistant? Or is there something else to try, or another way to troubleshoot this problem? Mahaloz-joel.

A:HP Support Assistant: "Update installation failed!"

@joel_MaunaKea? There are few times that I give flat out advice, this is one of the exceptions: Never, ever let the HP Support Assistant update your BIOS. Set HPSA settings to notify > reopen the program > check for Updates >take  note of the suggested BIOS action >"Ignore" / Hide the BIOS entry from the list. If you are not having system issues, consider that you may NOT need nor want the BIOS to be updated. At the least, make sure you have a full set of backups, recovery media, and access to your critical files BEFORE you update the BIOS.  Even doing everything right does not guarentee you won't have problems. Updates ? A:Re: Bios update stuck (HP Support Assistant)

Hi @JRMNY , Welcome to HP Forums! I have read you post and wanted to help. I understand that your laptop hangs at the BIOS update. Please try a hard reset to force the laptop shut down:Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.Remove the battery from the battery compartment.Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.Press the Power button to turn on the computer. If the hard reset does not work, the only other way is to wait the battery dry. Thanks for being a part of the HP community. I have tried four times to install a BIOS update (Rom Family SSID 2AF7; Version 80.20Ap1) provided within the Support Assistant, on each occation the update fails to install. I get no error messages. The computer restarts, but the previous BIOS version (AMI 80.19 (2014-07-18)) remains installed. I have tried stopping my antivirus program, but this didn't help. I have noticed that the command screen hangs with a flashing cursor, but no instructions are visible and then my computer restarts. Is it possible that the update is corrupt? Any advice on how I should proceed would be welcome.

A:Bios Update HP Support Assistant Taking Too Long?

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Since you posted about 10 hours ago and 12 hours prior to that ... if the situation is still the same, try to STOP the process. It seems stuck/hung. If this doesn't help, please fire up Task Manager and close the HP Support Assistant - alternatively force a restart/reboot>> http://winaero.com/blog/all-ways-to-restart-and-shutdown-windows-10/ If your BIOS is not updated yet (due to the process being stuck), personally, I'd recommend you not to update BIOS. General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong. Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

-it took me almost 30mins to type this thread with the one-screen keyboard, i really need your help!-

my problem started when i noticed that it appeared as if my CTRL button was being pressed down(when i wasnt touching it) while i was using my keyboard. so i googled the symptons and some forum told me to me to mess around in the Accessibility Options. the CTRL button lock problem is now gone, but now the Ctrl, shift, caps lock, Windows key, Esc, on the left side of the keyboard arent working! this also includes the spacebar and random alphabet keys.

Let me tell you what is checked in the Accessibility Options under the Keyboard tab.
Use Stickykeys is unchecked, under it's Settings; keyboard shortcuts is unchecked but everything under Options and Notifications is checked.

Filterkeys is unchecked but everything under it's Settings are checked, including ignore repeated keystrokes.

Togglekeys is also unchecked.

What do I do?! your guidance will mean so very much to me.

So HP support assistant works terible on my computer, and according to your support site support assistant has ALOT of ssues.. for me it started with everytime I used Support assistant it would make my computer crash completly where i manually had to shot it down.. So it got uninstalled, but when I tried to scan with task manager it found an old file from the program but I couldnt get acces to the path.. I then decided to install it again to be able to run the scan efficiently.. But oh boy.............. Now after i shut down the computer and turned it on again everything, and I men EVERYTHING runs so slow you cant even fathom, I am lucky if It can run any "bigger" programs.. so my question is do any other have the same issue experience? Note; any "help" from HP employee will be disregarded, I have dealt with you before, I hve done all the troubleshoot and YES the issue lies with you.. And since you wont accept that fact, then I dont have any hope for you being able to actually asist with support on a product you made, and thereby seeking of the ones actually willing to help - those dealing with the same issue as customer as I am!Any advice other than the "HP support" is welcomed! Thanks Dan

Problems with HP Support Assistant can sometimes be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing. I have left it uninstalled and check for software and driver updates manually. I prefer to get rid of software that leaves event viewer littered with errors. As does HPSA.

Got message that HPSF.exe has stopped working...."this application has encountered a serious problem and must close." It also says to click "OK" to automatically restart this application. Get pop-up from Windows, shows the scrolling at bottom of the pop-up for a second or two, and then the pop-up completely disappears. Also received message "sp63425.exe is corrupt or invalid (but I can't remember if from HP or Windows).
Also, my Norton 360 can no longer run scans, get an "X Error During Scan" and some other problems with Norton 360. And, my printer won't print....get message that says printer "offline" or "no power". But it's plugged in.

I'm going crazy trying to find articles, etc. to fix this problem. Finally, came across an article in WindowsTechies.com on how to fix HPSF.exe errors. Norton says it's safe to use. Can someone confirm that this download is safe and will fix my problems?

Thank you. And if you all confirm that it is safe to use. I will have a few questions to ask re some aspects of the download.

Do a scan with Malwarebytes and let us know results. Also, check the Event Viewer. (ControlPanel/System'/Admin Tools/Event Viewer) and Device Manager to insure drivers are updated.

Can the HP Support Asst be uninstalled and reinstalled from the HP Support Site ? May be best.

You also may want to check the HP Support Forum and website for info and to insure you have latest HP drivers.

In the lower right hand corner or my screen HP support assistant is available.  I clicked on the assistant and found I had three messages all dealiing with the printer.  There was a yellow triangle over the Assistant icon.   I read and attended to all the messages, but the yellow triangle is still there.  I called HP support for my printer and they indicated that it was a computer problem not a printer problem even though every message dealt with the printer.  Can anyone help me get rid of the yellow triangle. Thanks so much

Question for everyone. I work as a bench tech for a local computer store. I repair and build build computers as well as consult with customers about their computers. I have been told that HP support assistant is actually useful software. At risk of sounding ignorant, I have always been under the impression that it was pretty much junk software from HP and removed it along with a lot of other junk software that comes with the new computers like PDF complete, Norton Internet Security (60-day trial), etc.

But I have a couple guys here though that are swearing up and down that HP Support assistant works better when trying to get drivers for a new HP computer, rather than just going straight to HP's website because, "HP's website doesn't have the most updated drivers". I am having a hard time swallowing this, so I thought I would ask around. What say ye? I would appreciate some answers!

A:HP Support Assistant

I can't really say personally yet because I haven't had my computer but 2 months. But, if it is software that has been installed on HP computers for years, then I haven't missed it because I have been purchasing HP computers for a long time. When I got this one, I searched the programs I was suspicious of, and HP Support Assistant, was one of them. Everything I read leaned more toward "didn't need it" so I uninstalled it. Time will tell I guess but their web site has always worked for me in the past when I needed drivers, etc.

Hi, How can I disable the HP assistant from restarting my computer everytime it has an update. You only appear to be able to postpone it. It keeps interrupting what I'm doing, especially when I'm downloading software updates (large ones from apple) and then I have to start the download all over again. I have a slow ISP and it can take several hours to download an update. Days if it is interrupted.

A:HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant is a one-stop solution for connected, contextual support for your PC and printers. It helps you maintain your PC?and printers? and avoid or resolve problems using automated updates and self-help options. The above is what is defined as HPSupport Assistant.  It is an inbuilt app that will help you find solutions pertaining to your system by self checking the warranty/serial No/Hardware configuration/software etc., to assist you in narrowing down thesolutions to any of your problems.  The only annoying part is, at times it pop's up as and when it wishes to provide some information about your system.  There are multiple ways to stop this to work automatically. However, if you dont require self help options with your laptop/desktop pc, you can go ahead and uninstall it.  Will not effect any other part of your software/apps/performance etc.,.

Hello everybody. As many HP users, I use to run HP Support Assistant to check for the availability of updated drivers and software for my Envy 4 ultrabook. I'm running the most recent version of Support Assistant.A few days ago, I've noticed that Support Assistant cannot connect to the Internet and look for updates, but it was able to download and install the upgraded version that I'm currently running. This strange behaviour began after installing Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, that created some network adapters probably related to the Windows Phone Emulator. I can say for sure that my network connectivity works fine, but the program still reports that it cannot detect an Internet connection. Is there any known issue involving Visual Studio 2013 and HP Support Assistant? Thank you. Bye.

I have been using HP Customer Support and HP Support Assistant to prepare for an upgrade to Windows 10 on my HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop PC (QP792AA#ABA) and am stopped by a disagreement between the two. Customer Support > Software and Drivers > HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop PC lists 32 programs or drivers as of 6/7/2016 as available. HP Support Assistant > My PC, Updates > Check for updates and messages as of 6/7/2016 states "No Updates are Available". Should I ignore HP Support Assistant and use Customer Support to download and install the 32 updates?

We could also search ?HP Support Assistant? in Window 10 search bar to check if we could find it.

Hi! I am new to the forum so apologies if I break any rules unintentionally or if this is a stupid question. My question relates to the newest update of HP Support Assistant version 8.3.27.17, framework 12.5.26.37, configuration files 8.0.5386.1523 on a Windows 10 Professional 64-bit machine. My problem is that HP Support Assistant doesn't seem to get past the check for messages and updates stage when attempting to find the latest updates (see image below).  I have tried to check for updates for my machine, as well as for my home printer and both lead to the same result in the image above. In previous versions of HP Support Assistant, this did not happen because it would progressively go through each stage of the process, while replacing the present grey crosses with green ticks. I have tried uninstalling HP Support Assistant, installing it with a previous version and then updating it both through the software and through a later executable, all to no avail. I know that a problem exists because I checked my model's software downloads page on HP's website and found that my machine was not on the latest BIOS version, because it never showed up in those failed checks for updates (so I had to manually download it and update my BIOS from the executable). However, in previous versions of HP Support Assistant, I received updates for my BIOS and other software without trouble. I hope you can confirm whether my software is acting up, or whether ... Hi  Can anyone help... I have notice that when I check for new updates in the HP Support assistant I get the screen shown below... It appears that it is not working...   I know it was working OK, and I have just refreshed the warranty date so I know it speaks to the HP servers... Do the crosses mean there are no updates or it is not working?   I do have about 5 outstanding updates which I have not istalled could that cause this? I have just checked for updates for the support assistant and it came straight uop that I had outstanding updates. Stuart

Very recently took delivery of a new Pavilion with Windows 10 preinstalled. So far, the only software to cause me serious problems is the HP Support Assistant, which has not only locked up the PC twice but also chewed up 99% CPU. Have tried to remove it from the Startup using HP's own online instructions - which are wrong. Starting msconfig and then clicking on the Startup tab says that I have to use Task Manager. But the latter does not list Support Assistant - although there is an anonymous 'Program' which looks suspicious. So have basically resorted to turning off anything I can from within Support Assistant. Result is that PC is running much better. Please spare us this malware.

Since the last update came down, my browser jumps whenever I touch the mouse. I'll go to click on a link and the wrong url comes up because the browser, or mouse, jumped. This will also happen when I just touch the mouse. It mostly happens opening a new page. After 2 jumps, it settles down.

Is there a cure for this? Not a show stopper but very annoying.

Thanks,
Burt

A:Latest Update messes up Firefox

Maybe just coincidence, but the same thing happened to me; except it didn't end with Firefox.
My mouse was double-clicking all over the place! "Annoying" wasn't a strong enough word.

I tried a different mouse and the problem went away.
It's weird that my mouse should give up the ghost at the same time I install the SP1 update, but that seems to be what happened.

I upgraded Firefox to their latest version 4 beta 12; it now seems to handle most of my add-ons.
Probably didn't have to do that, but since the mouse wasn't that old it didn't occur to me to check it right off.

Don't know if this any help to you, but you might try it?

go to your mfg's website and download the win 8.1 drivers - not all 8 drivers work with 8.1, you will also to continue to get the 8.1 update nag screen until you update

or your hard drive is actually failing.. And needs to be replaced..

Yesterday's Firefox Update has changed my ability to drag intact one of my 275 SF links from Bookmark's tab into a post here.

Before I could drag the Bookmark title and edit it just like the other text, only it was in blue. Now it immediately converts it to the URL so that I can't edit the link title until it is posted. And the link title is no longer my custom title but the one originally given the webpage.

Is it possible to roll back this update and skip it altogether?

A:Firefox update messes up my SF links

Roll it back as in uninstall FF13 and go back to 12? I don't see why not, unless I'm missing something here.

HPSA keeps showing the updates for drivers, which already have been updated an hour ago. Whenever I open the HPSA, It keeps showing all the drivers, Even Updates ones under the action log. And if you select any of them, it prompts for a Download and Install for selected one (Even if it has been updated a few minutes ago).Is it a bug/error in software because if I have updated all the suggested drivers and run "Check FOr Updates" manually, then the action log should be cleared if all the drivers are up to date. But that's not the case. It  keeps listing the recently updated drivers and starts downloading them again, if selected.Although it up to the user whether to download them again or not, But the question is, Why the hell the option of selecting and dowloading the Updated Drivers being provided there????

I did system recovery - basically undoing more than a day's worth of work updating things. Left-clicking the trash can icon causes the message to disappear from that window, but the yellow triangle remains on both the tray / toolbar icon and the printer device icon, and either toggling tabs or closing and reopening show the message reappearing. Others with a similar issue appear to have tried reinstalling, or uninstalling and reinstalling Support Assistant with no success. One reported apparently spontanous resolution, but that has yet to occur for days now.

Hi, I recently bought a HP mini 220HD and since the very first day the HP Support Assistant has been nothing but an annoyance and a nuisance. The final straw occured tonight when I was installing an app and the assistant decided that it would run the "tune up" half way through!! It set a restore point, without permission/confirmation and then started to defrag the hard drive... WHILE THE APP WAS INSTALLING!! At other times, it pops up with annoying and useless information, completely interupting what I am doing and in some cases causing full-screen apps to crash and losing information that hasn't been saved etc etc etc. So.. is there a safe way to remove this from my netbook while still retaining the rest of the functionality of Windows 7 Starter and Norton Internet Security (which seems to be integrated into the assistant at some level)?

Hi,

For the record I am on a HP Pavilion 23-g017c (x64) AMD A6-5200 APU w/Radeon HD Graphics computer, running Windows 8.1 and using IE 11 with Zone Alarm Firewall and Antivirus/Spyware as my security.

I have only been using this All-In-One computer and the installed Win 8.1system for about two weeks now ever since my former machine running Windows 7 Pro decided it was time to die.

Slowly but surely things are starting to fall into place using this new Windows system. However, for one reason or another, I can no longer get 'HP Support Assistant' to open up. I say no longer because when I first got this system I did have it open for me, but I never used it, I just made a shortcut and moved on to other things.

Now when I click on my shortcut it brings up the HP Support Assistant window but it just sits there and acts like it is trying to open but it doesn't. Same thing when I try to open the actual program.

When I go to the file location I note that it was last modified Aug. 29, 2013, when I was on my other machine running Win 7 Pro.

Any ideas how to get it working again?

Thanks and regards,
2harts4ever

A:HP Support Assistant won't load on Win 8.1

HP Support Assistant has been very problematic. It works of some Windows 8/8.1 but not on others and nobody knows why. It is a useless piece of software and suggest you do use it. I have tried it, some days it works and some days it doesn't, it has been very inconsistent. I also have seen cases where it has bricked the system especially where the BIOS is concerned. There are plenty of tools online that are free for the most part you can use that would do a better job.

I replaced my factory 4 GB RAM with 8 GB of RAM.  Now in support assistant, RAM is not shown.  I uninstalled SA and reinstalled, I also did reimage and restore health.  RAM is not shown in SA, it was before, and SA doesn't download updates.  I have latest bios.  Can anyone shed light on this?  PC properties shows 8 GB of RAM so I know install worked.

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome ! Did you try to restart your computer (restart, not just shut down and then back start) ? If it doesn't work after restart, please uninstall HP Support Assistant (HPSA). It is not mandatory for your computer to work.If you would like to restore it back, please reinstall it. Here are instructions how to get it and use it:>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467905>> http://www.hp.com/go/hpsupportassistant

I get a yellow exclamation over the HP Support Assistant icon. When I click it it shows that the printer has a message. The message is says that my HP Photosmart 7520 printer is out of paper, but the printer is not out of paper and is printing fine. There is no alert or warning on the printer itself. If I delete the message in Supprt Assistant, the message disappears but it immediately comes back and the alert stays. I have tried doing the update messages option, I have rebooted the computer and I have uninstalled and re-installed the latest veriosn of Support Assistant to no avail. How do I get this message to go away?

I just downloaded and tried to install sp50843 after having used Remove Program from Control Panel to uninstall previous SP version.

During the last stages of the install I am getting a pop-up with the message:

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application. The window name that appears is: HPSF_Utils.exe - Application Error

Anyone have any idea of a fix for this problem?

Thank you.

HP support assistant sent me an urgent message (two exclamation points) telling me "important action needed" and that windows firewall is off. I checked windows firewall through the control panel and it shows windows firewall is on for both public and private networks. Why is HP support assistant telling me that the firewall is off and windows is showing the firewall on?? Is the firewall on or off and how do I fix this issue?

A:support assistant issue

If Control Panel shows it as on then it is on. There is sometimes a glitch with Support Assistant only looking for the security software (trial) that comes on many HP machines. If your machine came with McAfee Security Suite or Norton and you uninstalled it that may be what support assistant is looking for. Just ignore the warning- should be an option to delete or ignore.
