Recently I've been having a problem with my computer, such as strange processes running, a fake Steam window opening up, and a browser window opening at random times on Paypal.

This started one day when I was playing a game and it was stuttering a bit, so I opened Task Manager to stop programs that I don't need running. This was when I noticed 3 different instances of a program running called "312.exe", which I closed. Also one called "sweN.exe", which when I ended caused a fake steam login window to close. This fake Steam login window has popped up several times while I have just been browsing the internet, playing games, etc. Also the close and minimize button in the top right hand corner of the window doesn't work, neither do any other buttons except for the typing fields. I found this suspicious, along with the fact that I have Steam installed but I have it not to run at start-up so I shouldn't see that window unless I run it myself. Also I have found that when I leave my laptop running for a while, a random Google Chrome window will pop up with the Paypal page open on it. This is was very suspiscous as I do not have a paypal account. Also random error messages have been popping up, not sure if they're relevant but next time one pops up I will write it down and post it.

I've scanned with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, and they picked up a few things and deleted them but this is still going on. I've do... Read more

PayPal suspended the account of a white-hat hacker on Tuesday, a day after someone used his research into website authentication to publish a counterfeit certificate for the online payment processor.
"Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive payments for items that show the personal information of third parties in violation of applicable law," company representatives wrote in an email sent to the hacker, Moxie Marlinspike. "Please understand that this is a security measure meant to help protect you and your account. We apologize for any inconvenience."

I tried to access PAYPAL through my usual URL, using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Chrome 48. on February 15th. after pressing ENTER, I got a Green lock, next to the URL, and a blank screen. I could go no further. Clicking on the lock, a small dropdown appeared, showing 2 cookies from Paypal below a message "Your connection to PAYPAL is private" the connections tab showed that PAYPAL was verified, but my connection was encrypted using an obsolete cipher suite". I could not continue. I had been able to access and use PAYPAL on Feb 9, with no problem. Googled everything I could think of with no fix found. I finally reached a live person at PAYPAL Customer support. Who told me that it was something on their end (he did not elaborate) and suggeested I try IE11. I downloaded and installed IE11, tried to access PAYPAL, and got an error message "Access forbidden error 403". I called PAYPAL again and got the tech support line, who told me my account was locked, then he unlocked it, and I was able to get in. The following day, I tried to access PAYPAL again, and it again returned the "forbidden 403" error. I called PAYPAL again, got a support agent who had no clue what to do, and told me to talk to MY ISP provider.
Can anyone on the Forum shed any light on this?

This tends to happen while I search various websites, and the volume also freezes up as well.
I have ALL updates, up-to-date antivirus program, and no other issues.

Complete an Internet Explorer Reset. You may have an add-on that is preventing IE to run as normal.

For a few months now, I have been unable to use IE because as soon as I launch the program, if it loads at all, it freezes on the home page. I have tried changing home pages in my Internet Options; no luck. As soon as I try to navigate to a new page, IE crashes. I have not sent any reports to MS, but I did save a txt file of the error just now.

Specs: Windows XP, SP2, IE6 (cannot download 7 since IE freezes on first page)

Per identical concerns I've seen in this forum, I have now downloaded Active Virus Shield and run that. It found some Trojans in old Outlook folders, which I removed. Restarted; IE still freezes.

I searched the forum more and see that this is a common problem that generally requires a HijackThis log to review (since there seem to be different causes, and the problems have been cited over several versions of Windows and IE). I have downloaded HijackThis, and here is the log if someone could give a shot at helping me fix things:

I am using a Dell Dimension 8300 using Microsoft XP Media Center. My main browser is IE 8 and my secondary browser is Google Chrome. This morning my browser page froze after a few mouse strokes and the hour-glass icon appears. If I click again the following comes up at the top of the page "Not Responding" and stays that way until I go to the Windows Task Manager and shut down that program. I have tried Google Chrome and the problem doesnt seem to appear. I have the feeling that a phantom program has attached itself to my browser and is causing this problem. I have used Norton Security Suite and NPE to no avail. I have also tried CCCleaner and Wise Care 365, also without improvement. Any support is greatly appreciated.

A:Page freezes using IE 8

We do not suggest using Wise Care or any other Registry cleaners/optimizers like Norton as they cause more problems then they solve.
Open IE 8, go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset Internet Explorer settings/Reset.

Hello skysmama and welcome to TSG.

Please give us the "exact make and model of your system". Are you stuck on the login screen? Do you have any errors on bootup? Do you have a backup of your important data? You should have a recover partition on the laptop, and this will bring the system back to factory defaults, But! you will loss all your saved data in doing this. The more information you give us, the better we can help.

This means it does not reach the bottom of the page and so no boot options,
Usually clean the memory card and graphics card contacts with switch cleaner and cool PC with liquid Freon.
However. this time even after a few hrs. to cool it will still not reach the bottom of the boot page so no boot or bios options are available.
It has been into a lab twice where they replaced the cpu fan and removed a faulty DVD player which they said was causing the problem.
I formatted most of the hard drives saving some files and made a clean installation of windows 7 home premium with a new activation code.
But this time even after a few hrs. cooling it will still not reach the boot options or bios entry at the bottom of the boot page.Any ideas what could be causing this?
If it doesn't reset by tomorrow a.m. I will have to return it to the lab.But I don't think they have any ideas what to do.
I was converting video files at the time it froze.
My speccy results are on another link on this forum.Really stumped this time so any suggestions short of scrapping it and buying a new PC would be appreciated.Particularly annoying after re-installing many of the programs I require and worked non-stop 4 48 hours to get up to date and it was working really well.

I am using my son's lap top for this and I keep hitting some key which cancels every thing I have typed. So this was the 4th attempt to post.

Now I found something unusual. My wife called me while I tried to start again and it stuck on the 5th line, but normally when this happens I don't wait, I give it a couple of minutes and press the on-off button. This time I returned 10 minutes after it stuck. The screen was blank so I pressed ESC and the cursor appeared and then the sign in.Now everything is working again perfectly. At least until the next time it sticks.
I really need to know what the best graphics card this set-up will support .With an HDMI out connection.

A:Internet Freezes when I click a page that opens in a new window

I'm not familiar with the program, but usually a program will have an 'uninstall' file which is reached through the AddRemove Programs in Control Panel. If you just delete a program, some files are left in your system.

Try to install the program again; then go through proper avenue to uninstall (not delete). If nothing is shown in AddRemove Programs, look in the Popup file for a file labeled 'unwise' or 'uninstall'

I am on IE 11 and have been since it was released. Also, I open 4 tabs when IE starts, being one of them. I've been doing this for a few years.

Starting within the last couple of months I started experiencing various "could not access, try again later", "page not found" errors, random long delays and, worst of all, the browser would get into a state where it would not refresh any pages - when the tab is selected or even when refresh is selected while the tab's address is being displayed. When in that state, if I click on another tab it will highlight that tab and its URL will be displayed in the address bar but it won't change the page being displayed. The only thing I can do at that point is to open the task manager and kill IE and start over.

About the only time it has happened when I was actively doing something with the browser was when it was on the outlook page/tab. The rest of the time it occurs after I have been doing nothing for 5-10 minutes or have been away from the outlook page that long.

I have disabled Norton Security Suite -- a/v and firewall -- and it made no difference. I then tried the Google Chrome browser but it would do the same thing.

As I said, this has been going on for a couple of months and during that time I have come more and more to suspect that its related to the outlook site. About a week ago it quit displaying the outlook page unless I disabled the Norton toolbar. But, again as I said earlier, completely ... Read more

A:Browser partially freezes when page is open...

Hi use this awesome free tool,
Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,

Anything that happens with all browsers is most likely third party security related interference,
I tested briefly will continue to see if it occurs on my end but not able to replicate the stalling/ freezing yet,
If the above temp file delete utility does not make any difference,
Open ie,
Use Alt+TO or Gear symbol/ Safety delete browser history,
General section/ Check the box to delete browser history on exit,
Delete browser history button,
Uncheck everything and delete. only the top section is actually deleted on exit nothing else.
Save or apply and okay your way out,
Close and re-open ie and test again,

Hi folks,
I'd appreciate any advice.

I have Windows Vista (SP1) and IE 7.
Luckily I also downloaded Firefox.
Because I'd been having some IE problems.
I am using a secondary User - because I did not want to connect to the internet as Administrator.

Yesterday IE hung and I had to ALT+CNTL+DEL and end process (because application would not end).
Since then here is what happens:

I open IE and my default page "mostly" comes up (AOL), but it is TOTALLY FROZEN; nothing can be done - TOOLS won't work, cannot change the page, etc It becomes totally unresponsive.

I tried rebooting - no help.
I logged off and signed on as the Administrator.
I have a different default page, so when I opened IE there, it opened, but as soon as I entered it frozen. So I killed the app with A+C+D.

I opened IE and tried Manage Add-Ons. Then I was able to open the page.
Sothen I logged on as the user again, and again IE freezes immediately.

Any ideas?
?Can I change the default without opening IE (since the default pg might be the problem)?

Do I have to reload IE?
Do I need to save my bookmarks, before I do?

A:IE 7 w/Vista Totally freezes w/first page - cannot open Tools

Clear cached data in Internet Explorer

1. Open Internet Explorer 7.
2. Click Tools, and then click Delete Browsing History.
3. In Delete Browsing History, click Delete All.
4. Click to select the Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons check box, and then click OK.

Than check whether it works or not.

If not try Use the Manage Add-ons tool to determine which add-on is causing the issue.

1. Click Tools, point to Manage Add-ons, and then click Enable or Disable Add-ons.
2. In the Show box, select Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer to display all add-ons that are installed on the computer.
3. For each item in this list, select the add-on, and then click Disable under Settings.
4. When you have disabled all the items in this list, click OK.
5. Exit and then restart Internet Explorer 7.
6. If issues do not occur, repeat steps 1 through 3.
7. Click Enable for a single add-on.
8. Repeat steps 6 through 8 until you determine which add-on causes errors to occur.

Please let us know that whether it works for you or not.

Thank you very much for your help. Here is the gist of my problem:

When I open a browser(IE7 Vista SP1), it initially freezes for about 30 seconds before opeining my home page(Google). I can see the progress bar at the bottom of the window just get a little green and then it freezes. Once it lets go and I do my search, it takes me to the results page. However, when I click on one of the items, it very slowly, takes me to an advertisement page. Most of which I have never seen before. If I click on the back button, sometimes it will let me go back, sometimes not. If I can go back and I click on the results again, it then takes me to the correct page. I have not noticed any other ill effects from whatever it is that has infected my computer. Thanks again for your help. I have pasted and attached the 3 files you requested from the programs you asked me to run.

4 Days old now. I am in a bad way trying to use the internet.

I have an update to my problem. I have apparently somehow disabled part of the hijack. It now no longer takes me to an alternate page but now it completely freezes my browser for several minutes before releasing it to go to the page I requested. Also, I am now required to click twice on links in Google before it will go to them.

I have Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11. I have one web site ( that I use frequently but have not been able to access for about 2 weeks. The web page will partially open and then stops. When I try to scroll on the web page or open a new window, either nothing happens or I get a message that the web page is not responding. Strangely enough I can open the main site and read articles, etc with no problem. I contacted tech support at the web site and they can't find a problem with their web site and suggested I install Moxilla as my internet browser.

Here's what I've tried:
I tried listing the site in the compatibility mode but it didn't help.
I cleared the cookies off my computer but that didn't help.
I disabled my NIS firewall and tried to bring up the web page but that didn't work.

I'm still suspicious that there's a problem with that particular web page since I have no trouble opening other web pages.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hello to all!

It has been a while since this problem first occurred. Now it has become unbearable. When I try to print, use print preview or enter page setup, Microsoft Word 2003 freezes. The same thing also happens with other Office 2003 programs like Microsoft Excel 2003.

I am not sure if there is a problem with my printer driver (the printer is an HP L2600n by the way) as I have reinstalled it many times AND I have no problem using it as a network printer and can print the same word documents FINE from laptops or other desktop computers in the house. Thus I know that the documents aren't corrupted. I can also print .pdf documents fine from this computer. I think this problem started when my laser printer driver 'disappeared' and when I tried to reinstall it I got a spool-related error. I reinstalled the spool driver and then when I tried to print a .doc file I was unable to do so. The problem may most likely be linked to Office 2003 itself but I have tried options like deleting the data key and renaming the template, all which have failed to alleviate the problem.

I think that is all the information I can offer to assist anyone trying to help me with this matter, and I hope that the problem can be fixed without me having to reformat or something like that.

Thank you in advance.

P.S Not sure if this will also come in handy but my OS is Windows XP Professional SP2.

A:Office 2003 freezes when trying to print, use print preview or enter page setup

In Office, On the Help menu there is a 'detect and repair' option. It wouldn't hurt to run that. This could also be a sign that the hard drive is going bad (loosing stuff here and there)...

If every other site works, I suggest you check your HOSTS file, located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc for XP and C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc for 2K. It's a plain text file, you can open it with Notepad.

If there are any active entries other than: localhost

someone has been fooling with your HOSTS file. If paypal appears there, that's most likely the problem.

Three days ago, I was unable to load the PayPal website on Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or FireFox. After playing around with Firewalls etc, I was able to load the page through FireFox, only to be brought to a page after I log in requesting a whole bunch of personal information. I tried to put through what I could, and the site asked me to download a security certificate to my computer. I did this, but my computer did not like it and would not allow it to run.

The next day I tried to get on again, but could not from my computer once again, so tried a friend's computer (who is also on my network). I was brought again to a page requesting proof of ID etc; which also stated that if not sent through within 24 hours I may need to provide proof of ID every time I log in. It also said I would gain access to my site within minutes of sending through the requested information which included ID, picture of me holding my ID, and back and front pictures of my credit card. I thought this was strange; however, since PayPal regularly inconveniences me with these types of things; I figured it was standard procedure.

Next day I still can't log in. I also can't contact PayPal because every time I click on the "contact us" link, it brings me right back to the log in page. In fact, when I tried to log in from my friend's computer today, I could not load the PayPal website from his (when I could the day before).

Does PHP have built in support for paypal?

I'm making a web page for a new company and we would like to use paypal for our customers to purchase our products.

A:PHP and Paypal

PHP is a scripting language, therefore to get it to talk to PayPal you would need to write the code yourself. Most payment gateways require that you send information to them from your store in a certain way, although I believe most of the payment gateway providers offer their own cart software or a list of carts that work with their gateway.

If you really want to do the cart yourself, you will need to find out what information Paypal requires from an order and have your cart send this information, along with your PayPal account info, in the manner they request.

Good evening. As HijackThis has not been seriously updated by Trend Micro in some time, it is now no longer considered to be an effective tool for malware removal. You will need to go here, follow steps 6, 7 and 8 and post accordingly into this thread.

I have recently received an email from Paypal. I have never used paypal in my life, nor do I plan to. I immidiately became suspicious, and went to the actual website. There, there was a help section that listed fraudulant email formats and such, as well as the intructions to froward the email to '[email protected]'. This I did, but I was wondering if there was any way to detect exactly where the email originated. I suppose I'm after a type of passive vigilante justice, but all the same, I think I might find solace and satisfaction in knowing that these people have been tracked. Thanks in advance to all that can provide any guidance.

A:Paypal Email

Many of the phishers are very clever at covering up their tracks, and it takes some sophistication to track them down. Submitting the complete E-mail to Paypal is the best action you could take.

Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

Are you still having this problem? If so, can you do the following for me:

A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

I think this is the right place for this topic.

As a regular ebayer, I have been using Paypal for a few months now and at first it seemed a very good way or paying/receiving payment. However over the last few weeks I have encountered problems.

First off I had money refunded to a buyer whose item got lost in the post, despite having proof of postage, because paypal deemed my proof unsuficient. I cut my losses with this.

But now I have found my account has been "limited" because suspicous activity was detected yesterday.

I have heard about accounts being "frozen" and people losing all the money in them because they can't proove they haven't been involved in anything, is this what has happened to mine?

The email I received told me to log on and go onto the "Resolution Center" to sort it out, but when I try to do that I can't log in. I'm asked to fill in some info to verify it's my account first and for some reason I put in my debit card number and it just tells me it's not a valid one.

What can I do? I can't even find an email address to email them and ask...

Has anybody had this happen to them?

Any replies appreciated.

A:Paypal Problems :(

I would be a bit concerned at having to put in my debit card number-

Are you sure it was genuine? I would have thought your email address / login and password would be requested.

I received an email from paypal stating that my account was maybe accessed and I had to fill out a page of bank account information to regain access. I did not realize this was a fraudulent email at this point.

So I started to fill out this page of information (bank name, account number, routing number) and then it asked for 4 digit pin code and I thought at this point how strange this was. So I minimized that page without adding anymore information and then did a little investigating. When I realized that I received a fraudulent email, I maximized that page again, all of my information was still there. So I hit the back button on my browser and came up with a "page cannot be displayed" page. Of course, now all of my information is gone as well.

My question is...if I didn't send the page after filling it out, does anyone have access to the information that I already typed in?

A little paranoid here.

A:paypal email

No. If you didn't push the "Submit" button, or equivalent, the information never went out.

Be wary of these emails. They are coming from banks (not real banks) and even one that is supposed to be from Microsoft containing an "update" that is really a virus.

I have tried to access the contact page within my account on paypal on various platforms. iOS Yosemite, Firefox, Chrome, Google, each one comes up with almost the same message just worded differently.
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete”

To me this is highly suspicious because I have had my account limited due to unusual activity but the weird thing is, there was none when I checked it through. I sent my documents via their internal resolution centre within the account but still cannot access contact link. they have asked me repeatedly to do all my correspondence with them through this link, even though I keep telling them it doesn't redirect.

Should I shut down my paypal account for safety or is it something I am missing?

Thank you guys

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .

It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.

Windows 8 Pro is now available to purchase directly from Microsoft for $40.

However it seems you can only purchase it through the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant that you have to download, which checks your system first.

I used this utility and paid through paypal. But once the transaction was finished in paypal, the application went to an error screen which doesn't let you go back or do anything except exit.

Paypal and my bank account both say that the transaction is completed, but I never recieved any email, and after calling Microsoft they have no record of my transaction. Hopefully it goes through in the next few hours, but in the meantime wait a bit as the servers are overloaded.

I'm intending to make a pretty big purchase in a few day's time so when I tried to make a small purchase on the CEX website and it redirected me to a paypal that was 'viewable by third parties' I was a bit suspicious as this has never happened before.

Also my svchost.exe has been going mental and using up a lot of CPU, this happened before the 'paypal incident' however. Is something bad going on? Could be pre-spending nerves.

My Norton scans haven't thrown anything up and I skipped the GMER scan as the topic said not to do it on 64 bit. Here's the DDS:
