I did a big cleanup of all my Favorites in IE11, then deleted all my Favorites/Bookmarks in Chrome and Firefox and re-imported them from IE11 to make sure everything is up-to-date, at least on my primary Windows machine.

I'd like to do the same in Edge but I can't find an easy way to delete all of my favorites at once. I can only see how to delete folders one by one, a tedious chore since I have a lot of folders. Is there any way to delete all Favorites at once in Edge?

Once that's done, I need to understand how the browsers sync with each other. To my surprise, IE11 on my main PC apparently synced folders from Chrome on my Android phone. I don't know if Edge and/or Firefox are doing the same but I'm trying to start fresh with that favorites folder I cleaned up in IE11 with a little help from AM-Deadlink 4.7.

A:Delete all favorites from Edge?

Hello Carnivore,

You can delete all favorites at once in Microsoft Edge by deleting all of the contents in the Favorites folder below.

Code:
%LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favorites

I have been working on a document for elementary math. I have developed ways to insert math problems, equations and pictures. I may have inadvertently changed something in the program to cause this problem. I know just enough about computers to royally screw things up.

If I highlight a sentence with the intention of deleting it and begin typing. Instead of deleting the highlighted sentence, my new sentence appears and just pushes the original to the right but doesn't remove it. Then, if I hit the keyboard delete, nothing happens at all.

I tried to be all smart and go into the Edit Menu and Tool Bars and check stuff. I don't even know what I might have checked or unchecked. I also did the fix and repair thing but it didn't fix this problem.
I called the tech support where I bought the computer and they told me to call Microsoft. So, I called Microsoft who told me to call the tech support where I bought the computer.

Now, I'm appealing to Bleeping Computer who has always solved my problems in the past.

Hi, for some reason I can no longer use the Delete key to move files to the recycle bin, delete text, et cetera. I can still use Shift+Delete to permanently remove files et cetera, but using the Delete key by itself does not do anything whatsoever. This also doesn't appear to be a hardware issue, as using two different keyboards as well as the on-screen keyboard yields the same result. Using a program that checks for keyboard inputs, it also clearly shows the Delete key being pressed, but nothing happens.

Anyone know what is going on? I tried closing down any programs that could possibly interfere, for example programs that might use the Delete key for some shortcut or macro et cetera.

A:Delete key non-responsive, doesn't delete

Right click on the Recycle shortcut on your desktop and select Properties from the context menu.

Once the properties window appears, select the option named:
Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted.

"OK" your way our of that properties window.

Use Windows (file) Explorer to delete the folder* named $Recycle.Bin

*If need be, set Windows (file) Explorer to show protected operating system files.

Open the Recycle bin's properties window again and select:
Custom size

"OK" your way our of that properties window.

You should now have a new folder** named $RECYCLE.BIN

You might need to refresh Windows (file) Explorer.

Hopefully, this rebuilt recycle bin will work for you. If not, then we have some more hunting to do.

I've got new HP Pavilion dv6, running windows 7 and recently downloaded MSN 8. (It hounded me.)

When I go in to delete old Favorites, Right-click and select "delete," I get a message saying that the file is open in another program. How could it be, day after day? Is it "open" because it's in the history? Having trouble deleting history in 7 also.

I'm sure I'm alone in this, but I believe that they "improve" their services in order to frustrate me.

Thanks

Is there some way I can delete these folders? They are not a problem, but I find it annoying that the system will not let me remove them from the Favorites listing.

I am using IE7 with Vista Home Premium. My problem is I cant delete favorites without them coming back. I have deleted them under my personal folder, on line with windows live favorites and everywhere else I could think
of. However sooner or later within a few hours they show back up. I uninstalled Windows Live One Care thinking it might be preventing them from being permanently deleted but that did not work. Is there a registry entry that controls it I could edit? I cant be the only person with this problem can I?

Any help would be appreicated.

Every time I restart my computer, IE8 keeps adding the folders "Microsoft Websites" and "Favorites Bar."

Ages ago, if you deleted these pre-installed ones, they didn't come back unless you reinstalled the browser... if I remember right. (Been using Opera for so long.)

I just thought I'd try IE8 out, and it's... not bad... but it's also little things like this that I need/want to cure to keep it around.

A:IE8 Favorites and Folders That Don't Delete

Open up My Computer from your desktop.
Click on Drive C/Documents and Settings/your user name.
Go into the Favorites folder and delete from there.
You can also check in All Users/Favorites and if it's there, also delete.

Hi,

I searched your forum before posting. I did what the post told the last person to do, but it did not work for me. I am trying to uninstall a favorites folder. I only have one left. The order the folders go in is this: favorites, bookmark toolbar favorites, and music. I am starting a work at home job, and would like to have everything cleared before beginning so I can just have what they require me to have on IE. I usually use FF. I went to into documents and settings to try to delete the folder there, but it still gives me the same error message.

"Can not delete miscellaneous music. Can not find specified file. Make sure you specify correct path and file name."

I hope you can help.

Oh, I don't know if I should start another thread, but I wanted to know if there is a way to close the last tab. I can't find an addon for that. I would like to know if there are shortcuts like in FF to search for words on a page. Using ctrl F didn't do anything.

Thanks so much,

Wendy

Yesterday out of the blue some old pages from my favorites list reappeared.  I deleted these in the past and now they just showed up.  When I right click on them to delete them or go to organize favorites to delete them, they delete for a
few seconds, but then reappear.  I try again and again, but they just keep coming back.  The "favorites bar" in my favorites list does the same thing.  I have also gone to users/profile/favorites to try and delete them and they just
come back.

I've run multiple scans with my antivirus software and spybot software, but it didn't fix it.
Anyone know how to fix this or know what the problem could be?  I am not a tech guy, just an average joe, but can get around windows decently.

Thanks for your help.

I am having this problem in Internet Explorer in Windows 8, but I have also had the same problem with IE in Windows 7. I have a favorites folder in my IE favorites bar that I cannot delete. When I right click on the folder in the favorites bar and left click delete, a window pops up with the following message:
Could not find this item
This is no longer located in C:\Users\MyName\Favorites\Favorites bar. Verify the item?s location and try again.
Try Again Skip Cancel
When I had this problem quite a while ago in Windows 7, I googled it and found a way to delete it that took several steps, including some cmd prompts but stupidly I did not save it a now I cannot find it.
Does anyone know the process to delete this? I have no idea why this particular folder that I named tech is giving me this problem. I have had no problem removing other folders from the favorites bar in IE, other than this one. Thanks.

I upgraded to IE7 last week and I'm sorry I did. Maybe I just resist change but I'm haviinga hard time getting used to it. I had to open help to find the 'refresh' button!!

Anyway, I can't seem to delete the default favorites, the ones that Microsoft wants you to have, the MSN sites, and microsoft sites etc... Is there a way to delete them? I hate being held hostage by microsoft!!

Also, is there a way to uninstall IE7 and reinstall IE6?

Thanks in advance!

A:Ie 7- How To Delete Default Favorites?

To delete those pesky favorites Microsoft insists on including:

Open Favorites by clicking on the star icon on the upper left side of the toolbar.
RIGHT click on the item to highlight it. A menu box opens, choose DELETE.

OR from the toolbar Click on Favorites to open. Choose Organize.
Left click or right click on the item, choose delete.

As for reverting back to IE6, all you have to do in uninstall IE7.

I'm curious, just what is it about IE7 that you don't like?

However every now and then I open Microsoft Edge to find that it has deleted all my favourites and I now have to re-import them. It's annoying because the favourites I'm importing are from over a year ago and they have changed, and this is like the 3rd or 4th time this has happened since it came out.
Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Recently I have been unable to delete favorites.  When I try to delete a favorite it appears to be gone, but it returns at the bottom of the list within 1 - 2 minutes.  If I rename a favorite, it does keep the new name, but it reappears at the
bottom of the list as well, and if I move it to a sub folder, the move works, but a copy again reappears at the bottom.  I have tried downloading and running Microsoft's Security Scanner and it found no problems.  The second suggestion on the MS
site was to reset IE.  That did not work either.  I the called MS support, and they told me I have done everything they can think of doing, but for just $99 they can fix the problem.

I'm running Vista Business x64 which came with my PC. From my old PC which was running XP Pro x32 I copied over my Favorites and all has worked OK for the last 8 months. On my old XP system I renamed the browser links folder to "_IE Links" which is what I copied over to my new system. I've always had the latest IE browser installed on my system and since the release of FireFox I've always had the latest installed and primarily use it as my browser. I also have multiple PC (WinXP x32, Vista x32, Win7 x32). The big challenge was keeping the browser favorites in-sync so I installed Xmarks as an add-in for FF and IE. This worked great until this week and I noticed that Xmarks had a sync issue. I started to look into the problem and discovered that in the Favorites folder I had two folders for "_IE Links". Looking at the entries in Windows Explorer the names look to be the same. If I opened the first it only had one folder in it thus I knew that this was not valid, looking at the contents of the second everything looked ok and when I use FF or IE they show the correct list of bookmarks. When I attempt to delete the first "_IE Links" (the bad one) Windows Explorer goes through the motion of deleting the folder but it remains listed. I also tried deleting it in Safe mode but got the same results.

Any idea how I remove the bogus "_IE Links" folder and its contents of one folder?

Anyway, then my left navigation panel becomes like this:

I can not put any shortcuts into this folder, or create a new one.

Another problem is, when I go to the User folder, under my account, there is also a Favorites folder.
I can create a shortcut here, but these shortcuts will not appear at the navigation panel.

A:Some problems about Favorites after accidently delete the User folder

Your attachments (3 should be there) are invalid, those are not visible.

Try Option two of User Folders - Restore Default Location .... there are some registry files there. Download those and merge those all. Follow the next steps. See how it goes.

If it does not help, Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If it fails to do anything, too, then you should opt for a Repair Install.

Then downloaded latest virus definitions using LiveUpdate within NAV. Also downloaded the Klez tool from Symantec and ran it. It said it found and removed two Klez worms.

Next day when we turned on the PC, we got the NAV message that it had found Klez again, couldn't remove it, did we want it quarantined.

This time after saying ok, we deleted all quarantined files, ran the Klez removal tool, then re-installed Norton anti virus. Used live update to get definitions. Scanned the PC. Said we were clean.

Today, turn the pc on, ............ same message that we have Klez,
but it can't be deleted.

Can you clue me in as to what step we've missed?
Thanks,
Kimmer

Hi,

Thank you in advance for your help.

I've been having problems with some sort of malware which keeps disconnecting me from the internet. MalwareBytes detects problems, but even when I scan in safe mode multiple times, there is one registry value that keeps showing up as infected:

Registry Values Infected: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore\disableconfig (Windows.Tool.Disabled) -> Delete on reboot.

MalwareBytes then asks if I want to reboot, in order to remove that registry value, and when I click "Yes", instead of rebooting, nothing happens. When I reboot manually, the MalwareBytes still detects the same registry value, i.e. it hasn't been deleted.

I'd be grateful for any help. My HJT log is below. If there's anything else I should do or post, please just let me know and I'll be straight on it. Thanks again.

Hello,

I have little experience with computers, so please bear with me here.

I deleted an account quite a while ago as I wasn't using it anymore. However, it is still showing up in the Users folder of my C: drive. It doesn't show up on the welcome screen, in the control panel's account manager, or even in Vistax64's System Info program, so I can't remove it. I can still delete some files off of it, but I would like the whole account gone, as it takes up a large amount of space.

I've had no issues with this other then documents (Open Office) being taken over by an 'Unknown User', which I suspect is this account. What should I do? I've searched all over for a solution, and couldn't find one that matched my problem.

Hello again my brilliant heroes,
You are always so knowledgeable and helpful so I decided to ask again for your assistance. I used to be able to highlight something I no longer wanted in "Word" and then either just type over it or hit "backspace" and the highlighted words would disappear. I've not knowingly changed anything on my PC but now when I do this, it just inserts what I'm typing unless when the unwanted stuff is highlighted I hit "delete". I really liked it better the other way. Any suggestions?
Thanks tons.

I recently installed Malwarebytes. I checked some of the malware files listed after a scan, and clicked the remove button. Later, after reboot, the bad files were still in the computer.
I repeated this procedure in safe mode, and got the same results.
What do you guys think of this?

A:Malwarebytes doesn't delete bad files?

Never encountered that. As long as I check the box in front of everything and tell it to delete them it always has. You may have a rootkit which MBAM won't get, but MalwareBytes has a rootkit cleaner (which you can find on MajorGeeks).

Folks,

Good Morning!

Am posting a new thread because none of the tools mentioned in:

http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/585770-help-about-malware-startup.html

...for removing Virtumonde work for me.

This past weekend I got infected with a rootkit; rootkitrevealer showed it hiding in the System Restore area. I disabled system restore; however there were several bogus DLLs in \windows\system32.

Using Process Explorer, I was able to unload and delete all of these save one, pmklm.dll, which appears to be installed with Windows Explorer. Even if I kill Windows Explorer, rundll immediately shows up as a new process, loading pmklm.dll. If I kill rundll, a new rundll immediately is instantiated,

HijackThis 1.99.0.1 doesn't 'see' pmklm.dll, and Symantec with the latest definitions loaded, also doesn't see the infection. Have also per the advice in the link above, tried all of the suggestions and removal programs mentioned there. All say that my system is 'clean', yet IE often goes where the hijacker wants it to go, not where I want it to go.

Any new ideas?

Thanks!
Rob in Vermont

I think it's the remaining folder from a crashed FTP transfer from my iPod.

How do I get rid of it?

Stuff I've tried:
1.Renaming
2.Moving
3.Regular delete
4.Change permissions

I have full administrator privileges, and I have no clue of what's going on

Thanks guys!

I have followed the instructions with these results.1st - Removed a few cookies and a few malware with adaware. Redid the scan and it came up clean.2nd - Removed the 22000 winagent.cmn and everything else with spybot3rd - Updated all of my firewalls, antivirus etc.I was going to run bitdefender online scanner but it requires access to IE and everytime I log on with IE bad things happen!4th - I'm running mcafee Stinger and it's being bogged down with Win32 etc.I found the location of most of these and they appear to be hidden in my fonts folder.Currently I use - Mcaffee internet security/firewall and antivirus, and weekly checks with spybot and adaware. I have a account on Netscape mail (eg [email protected]). I have never had any problem with this account before but for the last few days the delete function doesn't work. That is, when I try to delete an e-mail after reading it, it doesn't delete.

I think this must be a problem on the server rather than on my PC right? Is anyone else having this problem?

I tried reporting it to Netscape but there doesn't seem to be any address for reporting this stuff on the site. When I finally found a tech support address that I thought might work, I just got a formletter back saying they don't provide assistance to netscape.net accounts.

Thoughts?

A:Delete doesn't work in Netscape Mail

It appears now that this is a Firefox issue.

Recently, I have been able to access Netscape Mail and use the delete function through Internet Explorer.

Only thing I can figure is that something in the recent Firefox update affected this capability. However, it works in FF for other mail accounts, so it's a puzzle to me.

Hi all,

Just started experiencing this problem a few days ago. No idea what caused it.

The delete key on my keyboard(s) no longer works. I've tried 3 different keyboards (which I know to function), and pressing the delete key (either one, on the numpad or above the arrow keys) doesn't have any effect.

Even on the on-screen keyboard, it doesn't work!

Strange thing is though, CTRL+ALT+DEL works. SO for some reason, the delete command just isn't registering when I press the delete key.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard and software, no results. I'm using a MS Comfort Curve keyboard, but also tested on a Logitech Wave and an old PS/2 keyboard.

I've searched all over and haven't found anyone with a similar issue.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks much,
-Dirk

EDIT: Even more strange observation: When I hit a key in conjunction with DEL, it works. Like Shift+DEL functions properly!

A:Delete key on ALL keyboards doesn't work, but CTRL+ALT+DEL does.

Hi all, I'm on another computer right now, but my laptop's Firefox browser was hijacked. Those fake "Windows Security" things came up and my browser kept closing. I booted Windows in Safe Mode w/ networking, ran the Malwarebyte test... it detected a trojan and some other malicious program and supposedly it deleted them. Upon restart, the fake Windows Security kept coming up and my browser wouldn't open due to "Changed Proxy Settings". I repeated the Safe Mode boot and ran malware, which keeps detecting the same trojans, but it claims they're removed everytime. Safe Mode or not, I can't access my internet web browsers because of this and they keep giving me "proxy error" messages. This has happened before, but in the past the Malware deleted the trojans and my computer was working fine again. This time arond the trojan keeps coming back upon restart. Thanks for any help.

I chose the option: "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted.", but the files I delete still move to the Recycle Bin.
What to do?
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Thanks.

Not sure if ths belongs here or in the security thread??

I could swear I've seen similar problems on this forum, but I did a search and didn't come up with anything.

3Ghz Pentium 4 512 MB of RAM running XP Pro. Last night a user on this PC installed MS updates, by logging off via the "install updates and shut down" option. When she came in this morning, the PC didn't respond to control + alt + delete. She asked me for help in logging on. I clicked on the help link in the control alt delet prompt, and the password prompt came up!?

The MS update button(at the bottom right corner of the screen - not sure what this is called) on her login still had the exclamation point on it, so I clicked on it to install the updates again. It installed and prompted for a restart. So I clicked on the restart now option. Nothing happened. I went to Start->shutdown, and nothing happened. I hit control alt delete, and nothing happened.

Ran spyware checks via spybot and ad-aware and they only turned up cookies. I am in the process of running a virus check right now.

My userid on the same computer has no problems. When I hit control alt delete, I get the standard prompt.

Just recently, I noticed control alt delete doesn't work anymore. Nothing happens when I press it. My computer has been running extremely slow. Usually I would click control alt delete and end the processes of everything I don't recognize. That seems to work, except I can't do it now. There are always a ton of processes in there that shouldn't be. If someone could help me get back that window, I could really use some help getting rid of all those unnecessary processes. Thanks.

I am trying to delete songs from my itunes that I do not like anymore to make some space on my laptop. I know that sometimes when I delete songs it pops up saying "delete from hard drive?". I want that to pop up always, but for some reason it doesnt sometimes. My friend said that it will only do that if you have itunes organizing the folders. So i deleted my preferences and made it so itunes will organize my music. However I still delete songs and they dont delete off my hard drive. I was told that the songs have to be in the itunes music folder, I had alot of songs in there, but some in a different folder. I thought maybe I could move the other folder into the itunes music folder, and then it would work. However now when I go to play some songs it says the file cannot be found. Anything I can do? HELP ME!

A:How do I delete songs from hard drive when I delete them from my Itunes library?

Because you moved the songs from where iTunes was used to looking for them they will not play - when each song comes up and the error message you described comes up you can click yes to find them and browse for them (you should know where they are if you put them all in one folder). This will re-establish the link to the song's new location in iTunes.
If you have lots to do, it may be faster to delete all your songs from iTunes (not your computer) and set up the folder on your computer properly - one My Music folder with all your music in there - they can be further sorted into subfolders if you want to. Then open iTunes, set the Preferences to "Keep iTunes folder organised" and "copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library" and import all your music from your My Music folder again.
When you get new music by whatever means and import them to iTunes it will automatically place a copy in the iTunes "iTunes music" folder for you and always know where to look for them.

Hello all,
This is the second computer I have experienced this issue on... I am not sure what setting I may have unknowinlgy enabled to create this fiasco.. hopefully you all have an opinion.

All of the sudden, my backspace key will not delete text that I have highlighted in Word 2002. My delete key will, but my backspace key won't.... this is a pain in the rear since it takes a lot more effort to use to use the delete key than the backspace key, and using backspace has been ingrained in me since childhood.

I did not change any settings or turn on any features (unless it was unknowingly)... I was not messing with options or settings recently at all, as well. I am completely stumped as to how this happens... as mentioned before, it is the second computer to do this to me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton!

Gentlemen [and Ladies ?]

I have three questions.

My Operating System is Windows XP Professional SP2.

1. I read the reply to PURE TRAGEDY's post of the 7th April 2005 and immediately uninstalled my AVG7 anti-virus scanner. Norton System Works antivirus and AVG7 antivirus had been running side by side for six or seven months and nothing untoward had happened, but when I read the dire warning in the advice to PURE TRAGEDY, AVG7 got the chop.

I would like to scan with Norton in SAFE MODE but do not know how to do it. When I had Windows 98SE, my computer used to jump into SAFE MODE without me doing anything positive to cause it to do that. I had no idea how to get out of SAFE MODE so a neighbour helped. I cannot remember what he did. My computer was in SAFE MODE for two days on one occasion because I did not dare mess about with it.

So, an explanation, in 'dummy' language, exactly how I can get into SAFE MODE, and scan my computer for viruses with Norton, and how I can get out of it, will be appreciated.

2. I have Norton System Works, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster. Spyware Guard, and 2-Squared in my computer. The programmes are updated and used every day. Norton detected a virus which AVG7 did not, so I feel happy with the Norton security.

I have considered installing Microsoft's Beta Anti-Spy and malware application but my friends throw up their hands in horror when anything with Beta is mentioned. "Don't do i... Read more

I too am a tidy person, to the degree I can be, oldsoldierThe reason you had no untoward results having both Norton & AVG running was probably due to how they were configured to run.If both were set to to scan continously and be auto-updated constantly, then some problems may have surfaced. You may simply delete the Grisoft folder. You need not open any of the files before you do.That folder was essentially for backups to what the AV software did for you.Without it's presence, or in light of your decision not to re-install it, those files in that folder are useless.I should mention I uninstalled Norton in favor of AVG because:1. Norton updates less frequently than AVG, and isn't effective against as many new variants as the Grisoft has been in the last couple of years.2. Norton costs more.3. Norton, when uninstalled, is also messy. It seems to me to require more system resources to do less for me. An opinion based on a couple years of observation, and reading countless HJT logs where it is installed and serious malware problems also co-exist. 4. Norton offers several products. I've had most installed at one time or another.I bought the System Works Suite in 2002. It deeply embeds into winXP when you use all the features of it, and slows the PC down considerably doing so. If you do not use a similar product, then you will not have similar experiences. The anti-virus aspect of it alone did prove IMHO to be marginally adequate.Microsoft Beta 1 is not anti-vir... I just bought a used computer (which is installed with Windows XP Pro). I've set up an Administrator account on that computer, but it will not allow me to delete a certain folder, which used to belong to the previous owner of the computer.

The folder is an old user-account folder (it belonged to the previous owner of my computer).

Please tell me how to delete the folder. So far, I've done the following things to delete it:
1. Right-clicked the folder, and selected: "Delete"
2. Right-clicked on the folder, selected: "Properties", and changed the "Security Settings" and modified the "Owner" privileges.
3. Used File Shredder and tried to delete the folder with that program.

In return, I got error-messages like this: "Some files are being used by another user" or "Unable to delete file or folder....Cyclic redundancy check"

Basically whenever I tried to delete that folder I got messages that indicated that the files within that folder were being used via that other user-account.

Please tell me step-by-step what I should to to delete that folder (should I start over, and reformat the computer HD?).

I do not have an Windows XP Pro "Restore Disk".

Thanks for your time & patience. I'd appreciate any good advice (instructions) from any of you.

I've been using Windows 7 for quite some time now (though admittedly I'm only just getting around to understanding the whole Libraries thing - I always keep my stuff on a separate HD from my OS/programs, and have only recently realized that Libraries are not constrained the way the XP My Documents system was.)

Anyway, I have occasionally had a minor issue with moving folders - particular those with subfolders that contain the actual files. When I move a folder, I generally want it gone from where it currently is (otherwise I'd copy). However, I find Windows Explorer, or perhaps TeraCopy, sometimes seems to forget to delete the directory tree after having created a duplicate directory tree at the target and moving the files over. It's a bizarre and totally minor problem, though it does get tiresome if I fail to notice it for a while and leave extraneous directory trees sitting around. (I'm a bit of a control freak; I like my files and folders to be neatly and categorically sorted, so empty folders are anathema to me). It's consistent when it happens, which suggests to me that I'm somehow changing a setting, but I honestly have no idea what it is. (A reformat makes it disappear for a while, but, while I do feel those are a necessary component of computer maintenance every year or so, it's a rather extreme measure for such a minor problem.)

Any idea what my computer is doing, or rather, how I can make it stop? I've yet to find a place in folder settings or TeraCopy's pr... Read more

A:Moving directory tree doesn't delete folders?

That is quite odd. Are the folders that you are moving (that leave 'phantom copies' behind) part of a Windows library? Or does this happen regardless?

If they're part of a library, Windows will re-create the folder (not sure about the contents) as soon as you move/delete it. You can remove a folder from a library's collection by right clicking it in the left pane of Explorer. You can also restore the original library shortcuts this way. I personally leave the libraries alone, as they are merely links to a folder or a collection of folders. If you don't like the whole libraries thing (I don't either) you may prefer to just add shortcuts for the Music, Videos, Pictures, and Documents folders (or any folders on your 2nd hard drive) to your My Favorites so that they populate in the left pane. Then you can navigate straight to the directory you need and not even bother with the library links.

If this problem is not specific to the libraries, may I ask if you can delete the 'phantom copies' left behind? If not, it may be a case of bad sectors on the disk. Sometimes odd behaviors such as files/folders that wont delete (or do but immediately reappear) can be attributed to this. You can run a checkdisk if you haven't already (ticking the option to scan for bad sectors), and that may solve the problem. I agree that a format seems to be quite overkill for a rather minor issue; but your comment that a reformat fixes the issue for a while makes me wonder if this could be the issue.

Can't get outlook express to delete messages. Any way to delete inbox and start fresh w/empty inbox? Using win xp w/ie8. Need some help w/this prob. Thanks.

A:Solved: Outlook express doesn't delete mail

It's possible that your deleted items dbx file is corrupt.

This is caused by a damaged "Pop3uidl.dbx" file in your Identity's store folder. This file keeps track of which messages on the server have already been downloaded and should therefore be skipped on subsequent downloads. To fix the problem, simply delete the "Pop3uidl.dbx" file. The next time you check for mail, all the messages on the server will be downloaded again, but a new "Pop3uidl.dbx" will be created that should work properly on subsequent mail checks.

To delete the Pop3uidl.dbx Open OE>tools>options>maintenance>store folder. Copy the folder name now click start>run>paste in the folder name find the file Pop3uidl.dbx and delete it.

If you know there is email you want to keep in there move it to another folder first.

While this starts as a software question for Chrome, ultimately it's a Windows question.
Many have posted that Shockwave Flash keeps crashing in Chrome. Answers point to having 2 versions running, so go disable one. Done. Still crashing.

The disabled one now says enabled again, so something turns it back on, maybe Cleaner?
Chrome installs and updates Flash automatically so it's easy to have 2 if someother software installed Flash.

My solution? Go into Windows, find Flash, and delete it! I look at the path for the 2nd, nonChrome copy:
I go into c:/Acer/Windows/Syswow64/Macromed/Flash

But it won't let me delete it. I'm a one-user on the PC, Admin+user. I check properties on the 2 files, says Creator has permissions, I changed both to my name. Still won't let me delete.

1) wouldn't this get rid of the duplicate file allowing Chrome to update Flash to their heart's content?
2) why does Windows make it so damned difficult with this permissions thing?

A:2nd copy Flash crashes;disable doesn't help;want to delete it but cant

I suspect your have acquired some bad software. I will ask for a more qualified member to take a look at your threads. Please respond so we know you still need assistance. Sorry for the lag in responding on our part.

When I boot from the DVD, it immediately goes into "Windows is loading files...", which it does for 30 minutes or so and then reboots, at which point I get a message that says that Windows cannot start because files have changed.

Normally when I boot from the DVD, the first thing it asks me is whether I want to create/delete partitions, do a fresh install or an upgrade, etc. I'm not getting any of that. Anyone know what's wrong?

First thing you do is go into BIOS, probably repeatedly tapping either the f2 or f12 key during boot. Then adjust bios to reflect boot from DVD, not the hard drive. Then you boot up, with the DVD in the drive. This will bring you to the screen that asks, custom, upgrade or advanced, you will select advanced, since this will give you the option to format partition etc. You, also, want to format to have the best install. Hope this helps.
