Display driver NVIDIA windows kernel stopped working.

Q: Display driver NVIDIA windows kernel stopped working.

I am getting this error for a long time now but it only happens with more newer games like : GTA V, heroes and generals and now also with Fallout 4.
I play alot of Counter strike and I have never had this error while playing this.
This is the error I am talking about. NOTE that this is not the same driver I use.

After a certain time my screen goes black, it closes the game I'm playing and its showing the error shown above.

Things I have tried:
Re-installing windows
Updating my graphic drivers
Installing different graphic drivers(with clean install)
Updating my BIOS
Changing settings in the Nvidia configuration window.
Checking the temperature and it does not go above 60C

I've had contact with Nvidia and tried some of the above and now they tell me I should bring my pc to a local shop to get it checked out. But first I want to ask you guys from the forum if any of you might know any solution to try out before I do that.

SPECS:
Windows 7 x64
MSI 2GB GTX660
Intel core i5-4570 2100 1150 BOX
ASUS H87M-E
Coolermaster B600 600w ATX23
Seagate 1TB st1000DM003 7200 SA3
Ram is ripjaw 4x 2GB DDR3

Since I am not making this post at home I cannot make sure what the exact RAM memory is I use because I didnt buy it online.

I am also not able to upload a DXDiag report right now but I will do that when as soon as I get home.

I hope this would be enough information for now and I am looking forward for all your replies!

Hi,

I was working with an audio recording software just now when I faced this error (in the subject line). The screen blacked for 10 seconds or so and then came back.

Also, I faced similar errors when I was using Power Point and a screen recorder software but the error was a bit different nvlkdm has stopped working. Also, I had just installed IE 9 beta (hardware acceleration), opened the first site and the system crashed and I had to do a hard reboot and unistall IE 9 to save my life from such errors again. The errors are just random. The nVidia drivers are downloaded the official nVidia and are the latest available for my DELL XPS M1530 with 8600M GT. (OS Win 7 Ultimate 32bit)

I also got two BSOD's at different time with a message saying:
"Unable to reset the display. A problem occured with the display driver driver"
I noted this error code on the blue screen
000000x16 nvlddmkm.sys
Dumping physical memory etc. etc.

There are no Minidumps being formed in Windows/Minidump (I just enabled them now), so I wasn't able to post any of them :-|
All temperatures normal, RAM test with Windows Memory Diagnostic/memtest/DELL Diagnostics pass, no overclocking.
However, I perfomed the stability test with Furmark for my grpahics acrd and the display started flickering with dots. Earlier when I installed the driver and had the performed the stability, it had ran absolutely fine for more than 20 min.
I read somewhere it can be an issue of Windows Update KB24548... Read more

"display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver version 332.21 stopped responding and has recovered"

Hello and thanks in advance for your help.

I am using a Dell XPS 8300 computer with the following specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
64 Bit OS
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
16 GB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Dell has attempted to help me with this problem. Prior to having this error pop up on my screen the computer would just have a blank screen at start up after the dell logo then the windows logo appeared. They had me run the computer in safe mode with networking and they have uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled them, they ran CCleaner and fixed all registry errors/cleaned out temporary files, they installed and ran Windows Security Essentials and got rid of any malware. Finally, they decided to send me a new graphics card. They had a technician come install the new card and run a diagnostic test and update all drivers. Everything seemed to be fine but when I opened a game on the system that uses the more intense graphics, the screen went blank again. I have not played any games since but while browsing the internet at random times, I get the error message from the title of this post. The screen will go blank for a few seconds then reappear with that message. I have tried to do some research and have found that the error is probably something called TDR. However, I am not an expert and I am clueless. Please l... Read more

Hello hello.

I getting on the brinck of crying here. ."

I have a brand new build computer and had the Windows RC installed when i started to get BSOD / nvlddmkm.sys

I have sense installed a genuine Win7 after a lovely reminder from Microsoft.
With the new install i don't get a BSOD, but i do get the "Display Driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version xxx.xxx (what ever version of Nvidia driver u have installed) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

It only happens in games, and i have tried a lot of stuff to get it to work so i can have fun with the new gear. But just can't get a solution. Anyone here who has a experience with this problem and know possible solutions?

I have monitored the TEMP of the GPU but it does not matter if the temp is 55 or 70 c when it crashes.

( Realized I had posted in the wrong section. I apologize. :\ )

Hey, all. Before you go on and give me the normal solutions to this issue, such as hardware monitoring software, overclocking and setting the NVIDIA Driver to High-Performance, I wish to explain my scenario, and that a lot of these solutions did not work out yet. I think this is more of a dying GPU problem.

About a few months ago, I updated the drivers for my NVIDIA 555m following a few low-FPS issues ( About 30 - 20 FPS in recent games ), thinking that a new driver would help fix the hiccups in gameplay ( I have 6 GBs of RAM, an Intel i5 quad-core processor, and a 64-bit Windows 7 ). Needless to say, this fixed the FPS on my games, at least to a manageable speed, so I was happy with the move.

However, after a few days with this update, I started to notice problems. On occasion, the NVIDIA kernel mode driver would stop working, and cause Windows 7 to reset the graphics card driver. At first, I didn't pay attention to it, since it only happened once or twice per day, and nothing else occurred afterwards. However, that was my mistake - By not investigating the issue further, the problem only grew. Soon, the issues started happening frequently, and led to BSODs where Nvlddmkm.sys was the fault, with the computer saying the attempt to restart the service ultimately failed.

I have since been using the internal Intel HD Graphics, which works well on most of my games with max settings, except for games like ... Read more

Hey,

Since a week i got a new laptop from MSI (model GS70). I already installed some programs like AutoCAD, Office and so on for college. But i also installed a few games like Diablo 3 and Hearthstone.

But for some reason my laptop keep crashing when i'm trying to play hearthstone which is in my opinion not a heavy game to run. So when i try to launch i often notice that the noice is verry weird, the display is flashing and i got a pop-u that says: "Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver has stopped responding and has recovered". Mostly i have to end the task in the task manager. But later today when i tried to launch it my laptop just froze up and moments later i got a BSOD 'dpc watchdog violation' caused by driver NtosKrnl.exe. However the akward thing is that i can run diablo 3 with no problems what so ever. I have not been able to test other games yet, but so far it only happens with Hearthstone.

My Nvidia drivers are up-to-date (355.82). So i'm not sure what the problem here is.

EDIT: Since i found it very strange it only happend in Hearthstone, i also installed Heroes of the storm. At first it worked fine, but once i got in the load screen, the noice was choppy, screen flashes and moments later i got a BSOD.

sincerely

Brent

Hello everyone
I recently installed windows 7 ultimate and i have some serious issues with it.
at first when i installed it, and it booted for the first time into windows i got the BSOD everytime, only way i got passed it was to boot up with driver certification disabled. i was finally able to boot into windows 7.
First thing i noticed was that everything responded very slow, if i clicked the start button it took up to 5 seconds for it to respond. still everything acts very slow.
so after a while i got the error "display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver 195.39 stopped responding and has recovered succesfully"
so my screen starts to flicker black, and i get the BSOD once in a while.
I can't run the performance test because my system freezes up.
i tried upgrading/downgrading nvidia drivers, installed direct x disable aero and so on
ive done alot of research on the web but i can't find any solutions to it.

Good evening all. I am hoping to find some help for my question below. I have searched the forums here for similar issues but nothing I have tried thus far has worked.

I get a black screen for about 5 seconds and then the screen recovers. Sometimes it happens 3-4 times a game (League of Legends, Skyrim) and sometimes not at all. During that time, if I alt tab, I can see this message once the screen recovers, "nvidia windows kernel mode driver version 301.42 stopped responding and has recovered."

I have a Geforce GTX 260 with Nvidia 301.42 drivers and Windows 7 64bit (full specs are in my details). My motherboard is running updated drivers. I have tried both the 294 and 285 drivers and still have the issue with both. My GPU temp is 64C which doesn't seem to be too hot (but maybe?)

So far, I've read through a lot of forum posts and tried numerous different things, including; low video settings, disabling all visual upgrades from Windows 7, selecting the video card in 3D settings in Nvidia control panel, and numerous other things.

Please someone help!

Hello and welcome to the forums Bruntz!

64 C at load is normal for that graphics card.

Is your GTX 260 overclocked? Set it to default clocks and try again.

Try using these latest beta drivers from NVIDIA for your graphics card:-

I received this error (see subject line or below) this evening while using Adobe Photoshop CS3 on my Windows 7 (64-bit) system.

Error occurred while attempting to use the slice tool in Photoshop. The screen froze momentarily (1-2 seconds), the went black (1-2 seconds) and then came back to "normal" but with the error message in the bottom right corner of screen. If occurred 3-4 times within 2 minutes. I rebooted Photoshop and it has not occurred since, but I'm extremely worried since my computer is my livelihood and I cannot afford to be without it should it go down on me unexpectedly.

I had a local guy install this video card on my system 2-3 weeks ago: http://www.staples.com/PNY-GeForce-9600-GT-1GB-PCIe-Verto-Graphics-Card/product_784288?cmArea=SEARCH

Not sure if it is the culprit or not.

Here's the error again:

"Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver, Version 185.93 stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Thanks in advance for any assistance that is provided.

Whenever I play Skyrim or Fallout 4, my graphics driver crashes and an error shows up saying the kernel has stopped working. This only occurs when playing those 2 games. I play CSGO for 3-4 hours straight and the computer never crashes, but when I play those 2, the computer crashes. The crashes only occur when entering or exiting a building or fast travelling. Sometimes, the game crashes mid game, but very rare.

Updating drivers made it worse as it crashed even more.

Yesterday, I got a BsOD. It was nmi_hardware_failure.

That didn't work. I uninstalled it and removed the registries and what not, that didn't work. So I'm now on a newly formatted Laptop and opening the Default images the Windows provides gives me these errors. Before I formatted I was getting these Errors - "Nvidia Display Driver Has Stopped Responding and Successfully Recovered".

Bottleneck is probably combo of your CPU, [what video?] and motherboard chipset. [southbridge/northbridge which effects it all]

I'd try upgrading the chipset drivers and BIOS of your motherboard, found on your motherboard's web site, FIRST.

That CPU is a bit low for gaming, LoL is probably well optimized code and lower requirements as a result.

Not knowing all your hardware.... Fill in the specs, you can run msinfo32.exe from Start | search box and get the info there. Video card will be listed under Components | Display.

Guessing without it, that you could use a video card and CPU upgrade, that CPU is circa 4Q/'07 so it has seen better days, whole system replacement is probably in order, to catch up to 2013 gaming.

Looking on newegg just for an idea, this is the only LGA775 slot CPU (same slot type as a E4600) even available, and it's a refurb: (plus no guarantee your motherboard supports it, without looking it up.)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...irtualParent=1

If your motherboard even has a PCI Express x16 slot, what version is it, 1.0/1.1/2.0? will likely limit a video card choice, also, let alone the PSU in it.

The reason I'm asking is that what you are describing could be related to bad video memory.

The other thing to look at is the Video card fan running OK and the heat sink is dust free?

Good Luck

Hi!
For a few years I have been having a problem that has been increasing slowly.  At first the problem was simply if I was watching internet videos on full screen, occasionally the screen would go black and the flash player would crash, and afterwards a little notification would pop up from the bottom righthand corner saying that the "Display driver stopped working and has recovered."  If I refreshed the webpage it would work again.

Later, it started increasing to videos I watched on my DVD player on full screen, and started happening more often.  Now it happens fairly often and even will happen occasionally if I don't have a video or flash player up.

Is there any possible fix for this problem?  I notice it is a fairly common problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M305.  Processor is Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz.  Memory RAM is 4 GB.  It is a 64 - bit Operating system.  I have Windows Vista and I use Firefox.

I would appreciate any help!  Thanks!!!!

A:Display driver stopped working and has recovered- Windows Vista!

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946 .

Have you tried uninstalling the video drivers...then reinstalling same or versions available for download at the Toshiba website (for your system)?

So I just finished my build. I'm on Windows 10 64 bit. Specs are:

* Intel Core i5 4690k @3.5ghz

* Silverstone RVZ02 Case

* Cryorig C7 CPU cooler

* Crucial Ballistix 16gb 2 x 8b Ram

* bombass mitx Asrock Motherboard

* Western Digital Caviar Black 1tb

* Gigabyte GTX 660 2gb

* Corsair ATX 750w PSU

So what's going on is that I'm getting Windows notifications reading "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" every so often where things on the screen go black, while in games this occurs as well.
I've tried:
* boosting the fan speed

* messing with power consumption on my gpu

* Uninstalling and reinstalling Nvidia drivers

* Clean installing the drivers

* Manually installing the drivers in Device Manager

* Uninstalling remnants of AMD drivers from my cpu before I upgraded Friday afternoon

Nothing is really getting me anywhere. To note, these specs are an upgrade. My previous build I was running this gpu with this psu just fine. I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a Riser card in my case to connect my gpu to the motherboard, and I"m not sure how and what to do to stop this issue.

When I run a game or watch a stream on Twitch my GPU seems to cause my entire PC to freeze up. One time, it eventually went back to my desktop and I got one of those windows bubbles saying '334.89 display driver stopped responding and has recovered' . My game (this happens across all games after testing) had crashed and I get some strange things happening like everything being black. Essentially, a manual reboot is required for anything to be functional. The initial mention of a 'driver' lead me to think it was a driver issue. However, after multiple driver clean installs the error still occurs and now the screen goes completely black after I ctrl alt del when my pc freezes. I have tried everything listed in the two links below (essentially, every 'solution' I could find) and cleaned out my whole machine of dust and it still happens.

I am currently doing the malware scan as advised in the first link to see if that resolves it. I have the card under warranty, but need to be sure that it is hardware at fault and not software before I sent it away to be repaired/replaced as this will take up to 28 days - that is a month without my pc as I have no backup card! Every so often when doing some relatively video-intensive activity (multiple YouTube tabs open, etc.), my screen will black out. In the instances when the screen goes back to normal (~75% of the time), I get the following error:

NVidia display driver stopped responding and has recovered, version 327.02.

Any ideas of what I can do to fix this? Thank you!

EDIT: I've attached a screenshot of the error. The exact wording of the error is the following:

"Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 327.02 stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

I keep getting this error of nVidia driver. So what it does basically first it freeze all windows then my monitor becomes black and if it recovers it gives me error message like u see in the url, if not then i just have to restart my pc. After error recovering my Photoshop closes, all websites remain black so i have to restart browser. I would love to know it there is any real solution for this, or why it's happening. I have newest drivers of nVidia.
I noticed that I get it more often when:
Skype starts
Working on Photoshop or other programs like Illustrator
Viewing images
Watching YouTube
Playing some games
I'm on Windows 7.

Error image (here)
dxdiag dispaly (here)

Maybe someone knows how could i solve it?

Thanks, Drig.

A:nVidia - Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

IMO...any known driver issues relatint to video, audio, etc...are best resolved by uninstalling the current driver for said function....and then installing the same driver anew or installing an updated driver for said function.

If the system is an OEM (HP, Dell, etc.), the source for driver downloads would be the OEM's website support page for that system.

If non-OEM, the source for drivers would be either the motherboard driver CD or the website of the component manufacturer.

If a driver uninstall/reinstall doesn't solve it...I'd consider the possibllity of failing hardware.

I continually get the following error: Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered. Display Driver Nvisdia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version 295.51 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
I have discussed the issue with driver download with Nvidia Tech support, they said the newer 296 driver had issues and had me load the 295 beta version. (I received the same error on the 296 version). I do not get the message as often, but it still comes up while plaing games, liek WoW or CIV V.
I also have a message on my WIN 7 saying there is issues with my Nvidia Grpahics driver but when I go to the link it provides it states: "Your computer was unable to download the solution at this time. Check to make sure your computer is connected to the Internet, and then try to download the solution again later."

I had issues before installing WIN 7 Professional, but the issue normally caused me to have to start the computer. But that was maybe once or twice month. This error is constant and makes playing the games extremely frustrating as the graphics are constantly going out of sync or restarting after going to a blank screen. Sometimes I can alt tab out and back and it correctes itself.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm not computer savy, but will provide info if provided the way to extract it.

A:WIN 7 / NVIDIA GeFroce GTS 250 Card - Error: Display Driver Stopped...

Need a little more info on this issue:

1) When did you first start receiving this error. Did it just start happening after a driver update, or after new hardware/software was added?
2) When you changed the driver to the version Nvidia advised, what process did you use to install the new driver? Did you just install the driver over the existing one, or did you remove the other driver first?

my laptop (Asus F50sv) has recently been freezing for a good minute and then the screen will go black and display this message: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered." it happens when i watch videos on youtube, or hulu or basically anything with FLASH Player

things i have tried:
1. removed video drivers, and re-installed same ones. didnt work
2. removed video drivers and installed updated drivers
3. uninstalled flash player, clean sweep, reinstalled
4. updated bios
5. checked temperature of my laptop, cpu, processors, video card
6. deleted all temp files
7. virus scan (avg and symantic), malware (malwarebytes), adware/spyware scan (ad-aware)
8. unchecked hardware acceleration on flash

It works fine in safemode but not in regular mode. I don't think its a hardware issue, but since its a display driver error, i figured i post it here.

Honestly those games are going to push a laptop to its limits especially if trying to use higher graphics settings. Even a laptop with a discrete GPU will be taxed heavily. First thing, are you sure you aren't overheating?

Hi. I have a GTX570 and have had my computer for a little over 2 years with no problems whatsoever. About a week ago my computer starting randomly turning off (conveniently mere weeks after the warranties on most of my parts has expired). The computer doesn't actually shut down entirely as the fans still spin and everything but the screen just goes black. Since the first crash, subsequent crashes have happened anywhere from a couple of days after restarting my computer to before I can even enter my password on the Windows startup screen. It's completely and utterly random. I've yet to have a crash in while in safe mode, but that might just be luck. I should note that although Windows describes the problem as BlueScreen, I've never actually get to see it. The screen just goes black and that's it. And of course, when I try to troubleshoot the problems, Windows either can't download the solution or gives me something entirely useless. I've tried the following...

- Updating to the newest drivers
- Uninstalling and re-installing my old drivers
- System Restore to point prior to first crash
- Temperature Check
- Cleaning the ever loving crap out of my computer

...all to no avail. I've searched around here and couldn't quite seem to find anyone with the same problem as me. Screenshots of what Windows give me in the Action Center and my Event Viewer as well as my minidump are attached. I'm starting to twitch here. Any help would be appreciated.

A:NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working

Scanned for Viruses?

Reseated the video card, checked that the 6 or 8 pin power connectors are tight, and checked the PCIe x16 slot out?

Your crashes are related to dxgkrnl.sys

What is the dxgkrnl.sys file?

I'd reinstall Direct-X...

Frequent crashes like yours if you didn't change anything and not a heat issue, likely your PSU has gone bad, you can buy a PSU tester for roughly $20.

PSU's are basically a failure point that everyone will run into sooner or later, if your PSU is mediocre, 2 years is not that unusual.

A:NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working properly

Could be overheating. Use a tool like gpu-z to track your temperature while it happens. If it is over heating, then you should open the case and clean the dust off the card's fans and see if that helps. You can also try opening the case and seeing if the better ventilation helps.

Did you update your video card drivers recently? That could be causing it as well.

My computer recently crashed while on a screen-saver and since then I could not boot into windows except in safe mode.
However, after a bit of reading I managed to pin down the problem: it seems to be the NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT Graphics card or drivers. (this is the card which came with my PC and has never given me any problems until now)

I know this is the problem because I uninstalled the NVIDIA display driver, and then when I booted back up; windows started working again - BUT ONLY WITH THE BASIC PC DRIVERS - NO GRAPHICS CARD.

Once I updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers (I tried doing this from windows auto update AND NVIDIA's website) it has to restart in order to fully install....and then back to square one: it doesn't boot into windows - just gets to the windows loading bar - then black screen and then restarts - no error messages, nothing.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this a driver problem or is it the actual NVIDIA graphics card? And if it's not the card then why won't the drivers work?

(BTW: I am using VISTA Home Premium 32 bit)

Firstly, my Nvidia GTX560 got this problem since my friend made my PC. It used to get the error (NVIDIA windows kernel modedriver <driver version> has stopped working but recovered). I tried updating drivers and it didn't work. I then changed to windows 8 and still got the error but also getting the error 'dxgi error device removed/hung' (see my other posts). I then swapped my graphics card with my friend if it solved the problem. He had an amd radeon and I still got the error 'amd display driver has stopped working but successfully recovered' but this time when crashing, sometimes my display goes off as if it is disconnected (but it is connected). When crashing it has a buzzing noise and sometimes has a distorted blue screen. Could anyone please help as I have been getting so many errors on my PC constantly? Thanks a lot! Later, when I played more of some games, after a while they stopped working, saying "the display driver has stopped working", and now I found myself unable to play any game for any reasonable length of time.

When I first installed the updated driver it doesn't crash as much when time flew by it crashed when I am watching something or playing. The only solution to this problem is by rolling it back and using the driver in the CD that my video card provided. I want to use the updated drivers.

A:Display driver has stopped working.

Hi if the driver that came on cd is not causing issues just use that and wait for another driver update. Are you having any problems with the driver that came with the card if not don't fix something that's not broke.

Occasionally I'll be watching a youtube video (this only happens in fullscreen), and it will freeze up and I can still hear the audio. After 2-3 seconds it will resume and in the bottom right it displays something along the lines of "AMD display card stopped working and has recovered". A few times I've even got the VIDEO_SCHEDUALER_INTERNAL_ERROR on the BSOD.

I checked and the drivers are up to date. Any suggestions?

A:AMD Display Driver Has Stopped Working

Hi there,

have you had these issues all the time? Or did they just start happening after a driver update from AMD? It's not always wise to update the videocard drivers. Sometimes newer versions introduce new issues.

I for instance also have an AMD videocard. All drivers newer then 13.1 result in a crash in 40% of the time I close Internet Explorer.

So, what I'm trying to say is. Try to downgrade your AMD drivers to the latest version where you didn't have this issue.

Good luck with it!

Hello, I bought a new computer some months ago and at first I could play games fine, but when I started trying some other games those wouldn't work. Later, when I played more of some games, after a while they stopped working, saying "the display driver has stopped working", and now I found myself unable to play any game for any reasonable length of time. Some, like for example Atilla Total War, I cannot even start to play them, I cannot get to the 3d.I have Windows 10 64bits, a Nvidia Geforce GT730 and 8gb of RAM, and a microprocessor of 3.30 ghz. I have even trouble playing football games of 2009, after a while the pitch disappears and I cannot play any longer.Any help would be inmensely appreciated. I have tried increasing the response time, making sure I am using the dedicated graphics card and uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them (WHQL) with no change. This is what the Windows event viewer says of the error;Faulting application name: Attila.exe, version: 1.5.0.0, time stamp: 0x56675acc Faulting module name: Attila.dll, version: 1.5.0.0, time stamp: 0x56675ff9 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x01a88a22 Faulting process ID: 0x19a0 Faulting application start time: 0x01d20923f0b1cafc Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Total War Attila\Attila.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Total War Attila\Attila.dll Report ID: 10aea5b5-8720-421f-af17-de31adfd74f2 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ... Hi there and welcome to Eight Forums,

So there seems to be at least some issues with the videocard driver. Have you tried installing the latest drivers for you motherboard aswell as the videocard?

Here you can download the latest AMD drivers ==> Download Drivers

You might also want to check for any updates for Photoshop.

Please try this and post back the results if the error still continues to bug you.

Hello,
This is my second thread on sevenforums, my bsod issue was succesfully resolved by you guys(thank you so much for that) and I need help again

Sometimes my screen goes black or pink for 1-2 seconds then it becomes normal again, windows gives me a warning saying "display driver 296.10 stopped working and has recovered". This is happening for months now but it was very rare until recently.

There aren't any fps issues wih games, even when I play for full nights. But when im in areas which stresses my pc(like Orgrimmar), oftenly screen becomes shadowy for 1-2 sec, no display issues, just shadowy in color. When I close the game, there is a windows message saying my PC is not strong enough for Windows 7 aero colors and I should turn back to Windows 7 basic. This message has been showing since the first day of my pc.

My mobo slot went dead a few weeks ago and caused bsods, that slot is empty now and I am running with 2GB Gskill DDR3-1333 since then. Also, I reinstalled the windows from scratch and installed 296.10 drivers again. I get no more bsods since I stopped using the damaged ram slot but this problem remains.

What should I do to solve this?

My specs are,

Hi,
this problem is very common on Vista/7 OS. I have had this issue on my old PC too. I have spent hours looking for a working fix for this to no avail. The only thing that fixed this for me was changing my graphic card, but that might not work for you as there is a lot of things that might cause this.

Microsoft has a KB-article for this issue, you can try if their solutions work for you:

I wonder if I can post this here, but I've been having problems with the ATI drivers for my HD Radeon 5770, 1GB, XFX XXX version. I had just recently wiped the computer due to the problems in an effort to locate the issue, reinstalling Win 7 and prior programs, then making a system image and repair disc just before putting two things back on it: MS Office 2007--an update that never seems to update for it I thought was the problem, but it wasn't, and the new ATI drivers (10.2 to 10.4 were messing up my display).

I keep getting the "(AMD) Display driver has stopped working and has recovered", after the monitor getting random flecks of whatever color, then the screen going entirely (insert solid color here) before giving that message. Sometimes it even freezes my computer and I'm forced to reset computer.

On the standard, generic drivers, everything was absolutely fine, but not on any of the ATI ones (even from the installation disc). I can't roll back the drivers to some previous version either.

The catch is that it only really does this when I'm doing anything else (writing an essay, watching youtube, watching House MD/some other video, chatting on AIM, surfing the web, just idle, etc.) other than gaming (Aion, WoW, Spore). It never does this when the game is running. In fact, it's absolutely fine.

Help please? D:

A:AMD - Display driver stopped working and has recovered

Having installed 7 fresh on an entirely new build with an MSI Radeon HD 5750 1gb model I never put the software disk in at all but went for the 10.4 right off the bat! There are no bugs with this latest Catalyst.

For simply removing the present version you have on now you simply run the setup all over but choose the uninstall option instead. Besides having drivers and the catalyst on things like Java, Adobe Flash Player, and other things haven't been installed on the fresh copy of Windows you have on now.

Hi guys.
Last month I posted a message about my Gigabyte 9800GTX getting this error message in Vista 64 'The Display driver has stopped working...'.

I got it while using Photoshop CS4 (uses open GL), Google Earth and when I play games.

So I tested my 2x2GB RAM with MEMTEST86 last version and it was ok. I ran it on 4 4 4 12 as written over the sticks (though at default the BIOS sets them on 5 5 5 18).

I've changed my Mobo from Asus nVidia to Gigabyte Intel.

I've changed my PSU from 500W to ThermalTek 750W.

And here is the twist - I changed my GPU from nVidia to ATI Palit HD4870 1GB Sonic Dual Edition.

Still the error pops up to remind me it's still there....

So either I didn't test my RAM sticks perfectly or there's something with Vista.
I'm going to install XP and see how it works out for me. Meanwhile, if there's any Microsoft employee reading this... please pass it on to the big guys

Cheers

Gil.

...But not all the time. While I was playing Garrys Mod, my computer was working fine, the occaisional black screen and then recovering which it has been doing a lot recently. But last night it went really bad. It started showing strange colours in the screen and sometimes it was all over the screen and i had to wait for it to go. And then it suddenly went all blurry. So I quit the game and went onto my desktop. And it still was blurry (It's not my eyes) But it wasn't the usual blur. The computer had taken a small square and swapped it with the one next to it. and in the corner the usual "Display driver has stopped working and recovered.". I recently had to re-instal Windows (Vista) because of a startup failure. so when I had re-insalled it I re-installed all of the drivers. But I've obviously left something out. Because It keeps on doing this

At random times my screen will go black then it will come back on soon after and I will get a little bubble coming from the taskbar saying "Display driver igfx has stopped working but has recovered" or something like that.

I google'd it but most of the results seem to relate to World of Warcraft. I do not play or have World of Warcraft installed.

perfmon report attached.

A:Display driver igfx stopped working

"igfx" is your Intel video driver. Update the Intel chipset drivers.

However, PERFMON reports that you are experiencing excessive paging, because only 78 MB RAM is available. You have 1 GB installed physical RAM; Vista really needs 2 GB minimum. I would suspect that the video is going out because there is not enough RAM for your video to function. Paging can only do so much.

My display driver keeps crashing whenever I try to play games. It doesn't matter what kind of game it is - it could be a full retail game or a simple, crappy browser-based game. It's just recently started doing this, and I haven't really made any changes to the computer.

I've tried troubleshooting the driver, checking for updates, and even performing clean boots, none of which fix the issue. The clean boots are never truly "clean" anyway, as there is one process that always enables itself upon startup: "FABS - Helping agent for MAGIX media database". Not sure if that's relevant or not. Oh whale.

Try switching to different drivers... newer is usually better but on some older systems, older might help more.

Be sure to use the correct drivers. For instance, you have a 5700 series and you may either be running 32-BIT or 64-BIT. Hello guys. I'm having the error on the title randomly when running any game... It was somewhat constant on Titan Quest, happened once on MOH: Airborne and never happened on bioshock or ET:QW

Today I was playing Counter Strike: Source with Bots. all running normally. I would start a server with 30 bots, but by the time the bots would appear on the map, I had the error again. The screen goes black, returns to the game with rendering failures, goes black again and I need to close the game.
The interesting thing is that if I overclock my graphics card a little, It happens more constantly! Power issues?

Hi,

I recently installed IE9 and ever since my graphics card seems to be struggling to cope.
Here are my PC details...

Sony Vaio
VGN-AR51J
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT
2GB Go DDR2 SDRAM (667MHz)

IE8 would often hang randomly when clicking tabs etc...
This also happened with outlook when sending messages
I re-formatted my machine and the issues still occured.
Now I have upgraded to IE9 the graphics (when scrolling webpages) becomes more and more sluggish until the screen goes black for about 5 seconds then returns to normal and a window pops up from the tray saying the display driver stopped working and has recovered. When it recovers everything works quickly in IE9 until it gradually slows down (over the course of an hour or more) then the same thing happens again and again.

I have 2gb of RAM and I am only using about 50% of it so I don't see how it can be a RAM (I was monitoring as the browser got sluggish)
I've checked in my system to update the graphics driver but it said I have the latest.
I've run virus checks with AVG
I am running Vista

What are my options here?

Thx in advance

I pre-ordered Fallout 4, probably my most anticipated release yet, and I was devastated when this crash started happening. Just like my problem in Mortal Kombat X the game is utterly unplayable. This is one of the most frustrating things I have ever encountered
with a computer. Both of these releases I have specifically purchased because they are among my favorite game series and I can't play them at all.

I have a .dmp file, a dxdiag, an msinfo32 and a GPU-Z log. I can tell you right now that this is not a problem with drivers, BIOS updates, GPU temps or power consumption (at least from what MSI Afterburner graphs say) or the in-game graphics being to high.
I've done just about everything that is within my knowledge and competency. I'll take as many ideas as I can.

I did upgrade to Windows 10 during the time when Mortal Kombat X was experiencing this crash. I thought it would fix it but the problem remained despite the complete reformatting of my hard drive.

Hi,

I've encountered a problem and despite reading about the issue on multiple forums including this one, I haven't really been able to figure out how to fix the problem on my laptop.

Issue is: Sometimes when watching movies on DivX player (could be several times per day and other days no problem) I get this error message "A Display Driver has Stopped Working and has Recovered". Display starts blinking and freezing and a few times I have had to shut down the computer on the physical on/off button.

My laptop specs are:

HP Pavillion dv5, AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual Core ZM-82 processor, 3 GB Memory RAM. Windows Vista Home Premium. The graphics are ATI mobility Radeon HD 3450. I tried updating driver, but it says driver is up-to-date.

The computer is about 5 years old and has always had a tendency to become very warm. I have never had this issue before, but it's also only recently that I started wathing movies via DivX player on this laptop.

I read that overheating could be one of the problems, so I downloaded SpeedFan. I cannot figure out how to control fan - it might be that fan is not working or maybe you just cannot control the fan on this laptop, but I simply do not know. According to SpeedFan HD0 was in the 60's, Temp1 was 85-88 and Core was 70+. As I don't seem to be able to control fans, I tried to address the heat issue by simply tipping the laptop over, so it's not placed bottom down and doesn't get as hot because air can... Read more

So I get TDR and BSOD whenever I play a graphically intensive game. Doesn't have to be much, though. I tried to play Mafia 2 and I got TDR. The same with Dishonored, CS:GO, and a whole mess of other games.
I've already set the PhysX to my graphics card rather than auto, so if you were going to say that, don't.

Note: My GTX 660 is by OC'd by Gigabyte, thought I'd point that out.

A:BSOD/TDR playing Far Cry 3, display driver stopped working.

Erm, this doesn't make sense. You have a Geforce card, so why do I see ATI drivers also loaded? You may wanna do some cleanup of your drivers to ensure you don't have any conflicts. A good way to see loaded drivers is using Autoruns. Don't use it to remove drivers, but to check a list of those intended to load at Windows startup. Also good is to check Programs & Features on control panel and uninstall unnecessary items.

Otherwise, I don't have good data on this. One of the 3 crashdumps present did report that the TDR timeout was caused by insufficient resources to complete a DirectX API call, but I can't ascertain how this happened from just a minidump. Try running Driver Verifier and provide us new crashdumps.

EDIT: I just noticed the ATI crash was from back in Oct, with two other crashdumps from Nov and December. Have you changed your video card recently? I assume you were also getting timeouts from the previous card?

Every once in awhile my screen freezes, goes to black, and then recovers with a message that the display driver stopped working and has successfully recovered. I checked the event viewer and the Event ID is 4101. In the details it says "Display Diver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." My computer is a Sony Vaio VPCCW17FX and my display driver is a GR Force G210 M. This started happening after I downloaded an update from VAIO Update awhile back. I have tried to go on NVIDIA's website and manually download the driver, but that hasn't worked either.

A:Event ID 4101: Display Driver Stopped Working

Sounds like you need to uninstall your nvidia drivers and re install them.

first go to your run/search bar in the start menu and type in "create restore point" then click on it or hit enter when it appears at the top of the list. This will open a window and you're looking for the create button click it type in a name like nvidia and then ok. Wait till it's done you'll get a completion message.

Go to:

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Search for your drivers, download them.

Uninstall your older drivers AND DO NOT RESTART THE COMPUTER,

Install the new drivers then restart.

This should fix your issue.
PS: never ever let windows updates install drivers for hardware or software that isn't built into windows. You should set your windows updates to inform you that there are updates available and then when you go look at the list you uncheck any non microsoft items and usually you should be ommitting the optional updates .

A:Monitor Problems after display driver stopped working.

That doesn't look too good! The fact that the display is like that outside of windows probably points to a hardware fault. Does it look like it as soon as the machine is switched on? I.e. prior to windows starting?

This happens several times a day, please see the error message in the screen shot -"Display driver ha stopped working and as recovered"
The weird thing is that it mentions Windows 8 when I have Windows 10 running on the machine. I have also removed the display driver and installed one from the support dell web site. Also updated BIOS from the same place.

A:Display Driver has stopped working and has recovered - Inspiron 7359 2-in-1

Had the same problem with a XPS 15 9530, to the point it was driving me crazy. I can confirm that for a couple of days it's been fixed by installing the Intel beta driver. You have to uninstall the Dell driver from the Device Manager, restart, and then install the beta driver.
