Turn off UAC for all users without reboot required

Q: Turn off UAC for all users without reboot required

I have a situation that UAC must be disabled in order to use a web based application features like merging data into MS Word, uploading/downloading within this application. I disabled UAC using GPO to all machines but for the next person
that will log on to the same computer the function of the web application mentioned will not work until the user goes to the Ctrl Panel > User Accounts > User Account Control and click OK on the warning message that says 'This setting will
take effect after you click OK and reboot' . I have like 1200 computer to manage and this causing big problem.

How can I automate using maybe GPO or pushing a register entry or anything you can think to turn off UAC
without a reboot required or even to do auto reboot after the GPO is applied. When this yellow exclamation in Ctrl Panel is ON with a message 'This setting will take effect after you click OK and reboot' the application will
not work.
This 3rd part vendor are unable to make this application work while UAC is ON and I wonder how other application makers make their app work while UAC is ON.
Thanks you for your help.

Every time I turn on my PC, I get to the XP password page but the screen is frozen and I can't type in my password. I have to turn off and on again, and it then unfreezes and allows me to enter my password and proceed to my desktop.

This happens every time without fail and is incredibly annoying, as you can imagine. Any ideas why this is happening and possible solutions?

Thanks.

Hi, about 2 months ago I had a serious computer problem - black screen of death, etc.
I am using Windows XP professional with Service Pack 3.
I repaired it by reinstalling windows using the "Repair" option - I wanted to avoid having to reinstall all of my software and spending countless hours adjusting my settings, and getting things to how they used to be before.
To further avoid problems, I bought the Uniblue Powersuite which has 3 programs - registry cleaner, driver scanner, and speed up my PC (system tweaker). I don't know how useful these are, but I don't know enough to do this maintenance myself - I think cleaning the registry and making sure your drivers are up to date could be important.
Also, I downloaded HijackThis, and I generated a log file which I will paste below.

So what are my problems? The computer often needs to be rebooted after I first start it up, because the screen will start flashing a "blip" of white every couple seconds, and program functions / menus / mouse will become unresponsive. It may have something to do with having deleted a "Monitor helper" program under device manager. I think it resolved the black screen of death, and I thought it would reinstall the monitor helper when I reinstalled the drivers for my monitor and video card. But I don't see that monitor helper program there anymore. Also, I switched to using Google Chrome for my browser, because IE caused my computer to crash. I used to use IE ... Read more

A:Reboot required

Well, maybe I should call the thread "Flashing screen, unresponsive software, reboot required."
I hope someone replies to this thread, I keep having the problem and I didn't used to.
Basically, on first boot, I get the flashing screen soon after boot-up into Windows XP. Or after I try to run a program or open a browser. Then I have to push the reboot button on the computer case, because nothing else responds. Please help me fix this problem. Thank you.

For the last few years I've been living with a problem that I thought was hardware related. I just installed a new hard drive and I still have the problem!

Every time the computer starts up it locks up in the Windows Loading screen before you see the logins. Everything just stops, but it is still on. Under no amount of time does it finish booting up. It must be restarted using the restart button to completely load. The restart button is successful 100% of the time. Why won't it load off the initial start up?

System:
Windows XP Pro with and without SP1
8GB Seagate HD and the new 160 GB WD HD.
TYan motherboard. 256 RAM.
PIII 800 MHz processor.

A:required reboot on startup

Start in safe mode and enable logging.
Then you can later look at bootlog.txt to see if it gives some clues.

Hello, before I post the logs I will say what's going on. 1st: Sometimes when I boot up the computer, and after I log in as admin with a password, I get to the desktop, and the mouse works, but clicking isn't effective, either on icons in the desktop, in the tray, or in start menu. If I restart, it usually fixes this problem, but sometimes I have to reboot 3 or 4 times for it to work.
2nd: No one else uses this computer, and no one was even in the house this week, but a few days ago when I logged on I noticed the colors were different in the heading bars and tabs on the internet. 3rd: I just installed a webcam and am afraid it is easily compromised. Here are my logs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I was looking at the registry and found this: InfoTip Play and Manage Games. Is that a virus?? I don't have any games other than solitaire.
I have also looked into this "SweetIM" thing, could that be whats causing the problem? i deleted them from registry. But I still think there's something wrong here. Thanks again.

Hey All,

I woke up this morning only to find that if I played a game, my PC would just freeze up.
With no warning, it'll make a stuttery, bleeping noise, then just lock on the screen.

As far as I'm aware, there is NO way to escape this. Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work or Windows+D.
I have to manually reboot the computer.

I've tried downloading new ATI drivers and lowering the power my card uses - but to no avail.

I'm a big gamer, and for Christmas, this is a big let down.

Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any more information don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!

Just to update:

I watched a video, and the same thing happened.
Me thinks it might have something to do with the sound drivers.

I have an SMC 7004BR router, cable modem, a 98 PC and an ME PC connected and sharing a single ip. All works just fine, except that after I reboot the 98 machine, I always have to manually issue a winipcfg command and renew before I can connect to the internet. The alternative is to wait approx. 4-5 minutes, after which I can connect normally, i.e. without doing the winipcfg. The ME machine does not seem to ever have this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,After a malware infection, I have had to restore from an earlier image. This has solved the malware problem but bought with it an old problem to which I never found a solution (It eventually - after 3 or 4 months - just went away!!)Computer Toshiba Tecra M5 Twin Core 2GB RAM running XP Pro SP3. All windows updates applied.Scanned with TIS 2010; Malwarebytes; Asquared and nothing found. The computer operates normally and then, under no one single set of circumstances that I have been able to figure out, one process will start to take 100% of the CPU (according to Taskmgr). This slows the computer right down. Often it is possible to kill the offending process (which is usually, but not always, windows explorer) and continue working. If the offending process is restarted immediately, it will again take 100% CPU. If it is restarted some 5 or 10 minutes later, it often works normally. The other favourite candidate to take 100% is Firefox but I expect that this is because these two processes are mostly always active.Sometimes (often after the 'fix' of killing a process) killing the offending process will simply result in another process taking 100% CPU. In these circumstances shutting down the computer results in a lot of different processes refusing to be shut down and windows requesting the user to kill the process. Eventually, it just becomes easier to turn the computer off.Any suggestions as to how to fix the problem would be gratefully receivedKRRPS - if at ... Read more

This is one of the most annoying problems I've seen. I've replaced the hard drives, and adjusted the settings in my bios to support AHCI.

My system is includes Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard, 8gb OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066 memory, Intel Q550 CPU, Dual Western Digital Raptor 300Gb drives in RAID configuration, EVGA GTX 295 graphics card. The system was overclocked, and now is running at stock speed to erase any doubt it was the issue.

The issue is I install Win 7 Pro, and everything works fine, until I power the system down, and turn it back on my Acer monitors LED light turns blue as if its going to the Windows login only the screen turns black, and hangs there indefinitely. The only solution that works is to repair the MBR with the Win 7 disc after hitting reset.

I have gone over everything that could be the issue. I have the original disc with drivers that came with the motherboard, I ran all Win updates, and they installed without an issue, the hard drives were replaced, and check disc was run. I replaced the CMOS battery. Every component I've had since bought new. I even have
the boxes to everything.

If I select restart in Windows, it powers up fine till you turn the power off then it's back to replacing the MBR. I have no special partitions, and let Windows allocate the drives with the typical 100mb partition during install.

I never experienced a similar problem. I assure any help with a solution is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all who offer support.

Hi there, hope you can help,

My pc freezes, will not respond to controls, and has to be reset. The only common factor is that it happens whilst playing World of Tanks.
It isn't a frequently occurring problem - maybe once or twice a month. But I am worried that it is affecting my pc adversely.

I have checked my GPU temp, and it isn't showing any spikes or problems there that I can see.

Sorry if I am not providing much useful info to start with, but I'm somewhat of a novice to tech support forums.

I recently installed Beyond Divinity, I game I had though I had lost years ago.

The installation went without a hitch until I reached a message saying:

"Application installed successfully. Reboot the computer to complete the installation. Continue?"

It shows the word "Confirmation" and the yes/no boxes above that.

Now normally this wouldn't seem like a problem, I'd just click yes and it'd reboot and I'd play BUT- I've already gone through this message box twice, and it doesn't seem to be changing anything.

I searched on Google for this, and got many different things but the answer seems to be unique to certain games and I couldn't find anything particular to Beyond Divinity.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to reboot my PC after installing driver updates. (WIN 7 PRO 32bit) The problem seems to be that the keyboard driver did not install properly, and on re-starting gave the message "REQUIRED DEVICE is Inaccessible" - consequently I am unable to type any instructions (screen keyboard not set up) and I cannot access the Launch start up repair screen.
Is there any way I can get into my PC to get back to the last restore point and undo the damage ? Any help would be greatly appreciated - an idiots guide would be ideal ! Thanks.

Hi BobbyE,

Welcome onboard.

Are you able to get into Safe Mode?

Keep pressing F8 repeatedly as your computer boots.

If it gets into safe mode successfully, in the Advanced Option Menu, select "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)" and press ENTER.

That should discard the faulty driver and boot with the configuration it booted from successfully last time.

I have a system that acts funny at least once a week. Every running program randomly spawns extra phantom windows that appear in the taskbar. They don't seem to be actual windows that open on the screen, they're just in the taskbar. They often don't even have titles. When this happens, the system becomes unusable and has to be rebooted. According to AVG and Ad-Aware, it is a clean system. This system was new about four months ago. What could be causing this?

Hello,

I have this problem with my internet connection. I often download via rapidshare links and I even have a premium account. I also use Jdownloader to manage the downloads. (I know the problem does not lie with Jdownloader)

But when I have multiple downloads at top speed my connection suddenly drops. I can still browse the internet (limited) and download via torrent, but not via a browser/download manager. I always limit jdownloader too 1 download, but it still happens.

Disabling and re-enabling the networking hardware does not work. Reconnect does not work. I have tried a lot of things but nothing works.

The only thing that solves the problem is rebooting.

Who know why my internet connection is acting like this ? Is the load too much perhaps ?

I appreciate any help.

A:Connection down after intensive downloading, reboot required !

It could be your ISP throttling you. Do you have an unlimited internet plan? A lot of ISP's will throttle your speed if you do a lot of downloading and uploading, especially via torrents. You could also need to forward your ports for your torrenting. Not having a port forwarded for your torrent client could cause some major slowdowns in bandwidth. I always limit my torrent client to about 75-80% of my upload speed, because uploading will suck all your bandwidth up. Try limiting your upload speed on your torrents first and if that doesn't help speed up your downloads, then try forwarding a port for your torrent client. Hello,

I upgraded my system to Windows 8 32bit from Windows 7. Prior to the upgrade my computer had issues where it would occasionally lock up completely (not responding to any keys even Ctrl-Alt-Del and unable to move the mouse) and a hard Shut Down (i.e. holding the Power Button down for a few seconds) was required in order to bring it back to life.

It wasn't a huge problem before as it only happened once a week or so, but for some reason it now locks up within 30-40 seconds of booting every time I power up the laptop following a Proper Shut Down procedure ever since upgrading to Win8. The odd thing is that it's okay following the power off hard shutdown but does it again after another proper shut down (either by closing the lid or clicking on Settings/Power/Shut Down)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I recently (about 4-5 months ago, so not very recently) upraded my system to Windows 7 64bit from Vista. Ever since then my computer has had issues where it locks up completely (unable to move the mouse, whatever sound was playing at the time loops) and a hard reboot is required in order to bring it back to order.

It usually wasn't a huge problem before, but for some reason it willl now proceed to lock-up within about 30-40 seconds of booting up the computer, after the desktop loads. I tried disconnecting my second hard-drive (I had bought a new one to install W7 on, and kept the old one plugged in) but that didn't make a difference.

It seems to boot fine in safemode, but I have no idea what the problem could be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off, let me apologize for not having any attached files from the DM Log Collector or the SF Diagnostic Tool as my machine will not boot, be it in normal or safe mode and there does not appear to be any files in the minidump folder as the BSOD happened on reboot before the system was up and running.

Machine specs: Lenovo SL500 laptop with T9800 2.93GHz CPU, 8GB RAM, 320GB hard drive with factory restore partition, Windows XP Pro partition (with Ubuntu 13.04 also installed within a folder on this partition) and Windows 7 Pro partiton which is default boot partiton.

So, here is what has led to my issue but I don't know if it is really related. I had just updated my Piriform Recuva from version 1.4x to the newest version which is 1.51. When the install was finished, it said a reboot was required so I rebooted. Prior to this, the machine has been running fine.

Upon reboot, the machine got as far as the colored swirling patterns that form the Windows 7 logo. The swirling pattern stops and then the BSOD flashes very briefly and the machine reboots. I was able to get a picture of the screen and the following is displayed at the bottom:

Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 you will need to make the bootable disk on another machine but it is worth a try. I suppose you can even use the Ubuntu for this. The fact it is booting Ubuntu I don't think is RAM related as it just would not boot at all - I stand to be corrected.
The other good thing is that at least you can use the Ubuntu to retrieve data from the drive with Ubuntu (I do with dead or stubborn drives for fixing purposes) before you reinstall if you have to.

Hi guys, (first post here )... I was highly impressed with some of the deeply technical answers on this site, so I'm hoping someone can help me narrow down to the cause of this issue I have, and possibly help me learn something about system software and firmware

So some time ago I acquired this MSI P45 platinum third-hand, and it has been living up to its name. However, it does not sleep and wake up properly.

To be specific, it looks like it sleeps properly, but doesn't wake up properly. The lights and fans start up, but one of 2 things happen

1) the POWER LED doesn't light up, only the HDD LED (strange)
2) the POWER LED lights up, the HDD LED doesn't work

Either way, no display. or any activity I can cause through the keyboard. I'm on BIOS 1.7b14(official Beta BIOS) (A7512IMS.17E). It didn't work with 1.6(official release) either. It doesn't seem to be any known bug.

I've tried a bunch of things, but I would like to try steps systematically once again, in case I've missed some combination. So, what could be the issue, and what can I check?

A:MSI P45 Platinum doesn't wake after sleeping, hard reboot required

Hello Milind, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if using the tutorial below to add AHCI Link Power Management to your power plan settings, and set it to HIPM+DIPM may help.

After recently installing an SSD in my notebook, I have been experiencing regular freezes that always end in a hard reboot. I switched to the SSD because my hard drive was failing and no online solutions seem to help my situation. Is this model of laptop compatible with SSD's?Laptop: HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j038txSSD: Micron c400-mtfddak256mam - 256gb - SMART health check reports 99% healthI'm assuming this is an issue with the SATA controller but all software and drivers are up to date. There is also no option in the bios to change from ACSI to IDE as some online articles have suggested to fix the problem.  Side notes:A clone of the system was made to the SSD via a cloning tool prior to installation of a resetted and updated windows 8.1.HDD worked without system freezes but was slow and had a long response time due to how many write cycles it's been through. All drivers have been updated and including updates through windows update.Multiple fresh copies of windows 10 also had the freezing issues. Also just before the computer hangs the drive increases to 100% usage but with no read or write happening.  This is just very puzzling to me and I'm not sure what to do.

Hi

I have been having this problem for about a year now, I usually turn my external HD off (built my own with a WD hard drive and antec external case)

It will not show up after turning it on unless i reboot windows, I have gone into device manager and searched for new hardware but rarely that ever works.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks!

PROBLEM:
I am wondering about some issues I am having that I am puzzled by and am hoping someone could help out. About a week ago my computer froze up, didn't think much of it, just cold rebooted it and away I went, no issues for about a week. Last night when I got home, same thing, this time when I rebooted I did a reset instead, and upon this my computer could not find the bootable hard drive. I decided to cold reboot it and sure enough, came back up. Since this time, about every 45 minutes or so, it does the same thing. Cold reboots are the only way to bring it back up.

The computer was put together in November by me (probably issue #1, see my user specs for PC info) That being said, the two hard drives (if those are issues) would possibly be the SSD (Boot drive) or the 500GB Seagate (older hard drive, also stores all my installed programs).

1. The could not find boot drive is a simple red flag to my SSD. But when I cold reboot its fine and monitoring it all checks out ok.
2. The 500GB drive seems to have a corrupted portion on it, but it boots normal and lasts for 45 minutes or so. I have not tried chcdsk yet, plan to tonight.
3. As far as I know my PSU, CPU, Memory and GPU are fine. I plan to run a 12+ hour memtest tonight but my CSU passed intelburn tests, and GPU passes FURMark and memtestg and although I don't have a voltage reader, via BIOS my power isn't spiking at all
4. No events thrown since its just freezing.

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

ADD the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the

I have one of those add-in card multi-card readers that fits into a floppy drive bay and plugs directly to a terminal on the main board. I think it might be a Rosewill brand I got from Newegg.

If I go through the disconnect procedure to remove the card and want to reinsert any card later, I must reboot the computer before the card is recognized. Going into System and telling it to scan for hardware changes does no good, neither does View> Refresh in My Computer.

Any suggestions for a solution would be appreciated.

now I'M confused if I have always been doing this wrong.
I have always had multicard readers on my HP printers.

I use SD cards for the most part.

when I insert a card the "card present" light comes on--
when I'm done with the card--I just pull it out and put it back in to what
ever device I have it in.

there doesnt seem to be any errors or problems doing it this way.

I thought the only precaution you had to take was-- turn off the camera if
that's what you had the card in--before removing the card and make sure the
camera is turned off when you put the card back into the camera

but this is more protection for the camera then the card--

are you disabling the whole card reader when you use the disconnect hardware feature
to unplug a card

Hey guys .

I have been looking to fix this issue for 3weeks now, and I have ran out of ideas.
I'll describe the issue; My screen will turn black and sound will loop ( if sound is playing) my pc becomes unresponsive (num luck led doesn't light up anymore). After that my pc will reboot automaticly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrScZBj9hJ0 (Video of same issue)

If I make my way back to my desktop I am greeted with a short description of a BlueScreen.
I will add my dump file to the attachments. It says its because of my drivers but I tried multiple drivers and the issue persist. Also the crashes seem completly random somethimes during games , sometimes right after startup, sometimes while idling.

Other things I tried ;
-Different Hard drive
-Different GPU
-Different Mobo
-Different PSU
-Different Drivers
-Fresh windows install
-Monitor Temps
-Memtest ( Memtest froze after 7 passes )

Thank you for reading, I hope you guys are able to help me out I am becoming desperate.

A:Screen turns black, sound loops. Reboot required. Getting desperate

Hello and welcome Heeco mate just what were the temps on the machine you said you tested them but we need an idea of what range they were in.

You have also tried reseating all cards and sticks?.

You might try this too while you are at it

SLOTCLEANING

Now as for the slotsto clean them use a strip of old credit card about 1/2 inch wide nip thecorners off one end - preferably round them offhold a piece of thin lint free clothover the end dab on some form of alcohol - iso propyl alcohol (what we swab theskin with before an injection) is good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be donefor the GPU slot/s.

The memtest crashing is a worry depending on how many sticks you have I might suggest testing them one at a time.

If you like I personally would also run these is safe mode

Hi

I have a 64bit Windows 7 PC with the whole family?s data on it. Each member of the family has a local user account setup on the PC and share promotions set. The family members PC has a local account with the same name and same password. They are running XP.

The problem I have is, that most of the time all the shares are working but randomly the XP PC?s will stop being able to access any of the shared folders. To fix the issue I have to reboot the Windows 7 PC and then the XP PC?s are able to access the shared folders again.

I have a Windows 7 Laptop and I never have any problems accessing my shared folder of the main PC.

Any help with this issue would be most welcome

Many thanks

Hello to all!

I have lately suffered a lot of crashes during a days worth of operation on my machine. But unlike the usual process theese dont seem to generate any error as the machine simply freezes. No real BSOD.

Example:
I sit and do my thing then both my 24" monitors loose signal at the same time and there is no way to get it back and even pressing power button will do nothing (unless held down for 4 secs ie shut down by force)

What I have done so far:
I have tested 2 identical graphic cards, same problem, I have run Memory diagnostics, come out clean, ive run Chkdsk and integrity, nothing. Full kaspersky 2010 scan as well as spydoctor and windows defender, nothing.

I am running graphics driver 257.21

What I am running:
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate
Asus Rampage II Extreme Motherboard
2 x 24" Samsung SyncMaster T240 Monitors LCD
2 x 300GB WD3000HLFS-01G6U0 Velociraptors in Raid 0
2 x 1TB WD1002FBYS-01A6B0 in Raid 0

12 GB ram in 6 x modules of Corsair DDR3 10700 CM3X2G11600C8D
Soundblaster XI-Fi Titanium Soundcard
Thermaltake 1200 Watts Toughpower Power Plant

My apologies if I done this wrong but its my first post on tech forums so be gentle

Long story short, set up the Screen Saver in Audit mode, and make sure CopyProfile=True on the unattend.xml file, and you'd be sweet. (I know, I've just done it)

Hi

I want to give the ability to the user group to turn off instantly aero (using either the right click or normal shortcuts described in the tutorials) without revealing my administrator pass to them (or have to be there to type it).

This also is a solution for x64 apps (That have grayed out these options in compability tab, it is a win 7 bug) in occasion of my network with no expert users.... (If there is a solution, I will combine an x64 app with an turn off aero in a single shortcut )

Sorry if this has been replied before... any answers will be apreciated

A:How to allow users group to turn off Aero

I don't think you necessarily understand administration - either you manage the machines for the users (turning off things they don't want/use, changing application compatibility settings, etc, or you give them administrative privileges for managing their machine. Understanding how these things works might better help you understand why admin privs are required - to disable aero, you must be able to stop a service, unload a driver, stop a kernel-mode process, and then restart the video subsystem. None of these things would you ever want a non-administrator to be able to do in a managed setting. To set compatibility options for a process, you have to be able to write to a non-user-controlled portion of the registry, as well as add app-compat data to a protected location on the system (in this case, the Windows directory). Again, in a usual case, not something you'd give non-admins rights to do.

Hence, these things require admin privileges, so either you manage the machines, or they do - but someone's got to . To get to the point though, the first real question to ask is, *why* do users need to do these things?

I've been going crazy with this. We have a single computer here at work that no matter what I do the default for users is for the monitor to turn off after 20 minutes. Problem is, when it turns off it never comes back and you have to restart the computer.

Now I found one solution which says you need to set it for the built-in local admin and that should change it for all users but this doesn't work.

I was wondering if maybe there's a group policy that would allow me to force it to never power off? Or whatever else (maybe external software that I don't know of?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Setting monitor to never turn off on all users

You could try a temporary Administrator-setting of permissions on the following 2 Group Policy keys for 'Users' to Full Control, log in the user account, change Monitor shutdown to Never, then Administrator-setting the 'Users' permissions back again.

Be sure to change them back once you change the power management settings.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ControlsFolder\PowerCfg\GlobalPowerPolicy

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ControlsFolder\PowerCfg\PowerPolicy

edit: I got this tip from here; http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=ca

Note that you probably have to reboot after the Policy change to set the registry changes for the users (both times).

Microsoft's first cumulative update for Windows 10 - KB3081424 - is causing havoc for some users. How do I know this? Because I spent a good part of my Sunday morning dealing with it, that's how.

The problem, in a nutshell, is that the update puts affected systems into an endless crash loop. The update tries to install, gets to a certain point, fails, and then displays the unhelpful "We couldn't complete the updates, undoing the changes."

If it stopped there things wouldn't be too bad, but because Microsoft now forces updates onto Windows 10 users, the OS kept trying - and failing - to install the update, which in turn placed the system into a periodic crash/reboot loop that put quite a dent in my productivity.

I'm sure this is possible. Right now in my Screen Saver settings I have unchecked the "on resume, display logon screen" checkbox. In my power settings, I have set the laptop to turn off the display after being idle for 10 minutes. However, everytime the display turns off for some reason it still locks the screen. What gives!?

A:How to turn off display when idle, but NOT lock screen (switch users)?

There have been issues with this, and I can't remember what the solution was, but there's an extremely simple workaround (if you don't use a screen saver): set the wait time to a very high number (like 9999 minutes). It will never lock again.

A:my laptop wont turn on or reboot

You may need to go into your laptop's BIOS and change the boot order, as soon as you turn your laptop on, look for an option similar to "Press Del to enter Setup".

When you see the option, let the laptop run to the point where it doesn't go any further and reboot it. This time, keep pressing the button you saw earlier - it could be either Del, F2 or any number of keys.

This should load your laptop's BIOS screen. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, navigate around - being careful not to change any of the options - until you find a section or menu called "Boot Order" or something similar. What you then need to do is fix it so that the CD-ROM drive is above your hard drive in the order, the exact key commands will probably be displayed to you in some kind of help section of the screen.

When you've done this, reboot with the CD in the drive and it should start. If not, try the CD in another computer (just starting up from the CD alone will not do anything to the computer). If it starts and shows a blue "Windows Installation" screen, there's a more serious problem with your laptop.

If this is the case, I would personally recommend sending it back to Philips (or wherver you got it from) and getting it looked at under warranty. Laptop warranties are usually good for a year unless you've dropped it or spilled something on it.

Hope this helps a bit

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

I've been getting MANY problems with my computer freezing up on start up whenever I try to turn it on. I'm on a Windows XP Home, Asus k8v delux mobo, Corsair dual 256 Mb RAM, and AMD Athlon 64 3200+

The problem is when it starts up, it's different everytime how it happens...sometimes it happens immediately, sometimes it happens when trying to open programs in the early stages of logging on windows, sometime it happens at logon screen, sometimes it happens 5 minutes after being logged on...but the computer just...freezes...not like your typical freeze, where stuff still runs in the background (like music)...it kinda just dies but stays on...the biggest tell tale sign is the mouse stops working...I use an optical mouse, and the light just goes off...IT's not the mouse because I can't type either...and the fact that programs cease to run anymore. Sometimes it doesn't even lock up...sometimes I get a BSoD, and other times when I boot up, I don't even get to the Motherboard's logo screen...what should be a quick 5 minute or less process, stretches out to close to 20 minutes because it happens numerous times...it's very frustrating and I'm not sure if it's a problem with Windows, or problem with processor, or problem with motherboard...It's a situation I'd like to resolve and would appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks

Whenever I reboot, a screen comes up that says:

Could not load or run 'C:\Users\Ella\AppData\Local\Temp\csrss.exe' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.

Recently, I did several things this might be related to, but I am not sure it is is related or not:

1. I downloaded Internet Explorer 9; hated it; and called microsoft tech support to get rid of it and went back to Internet Explorer 8. IE 8 is now working fine.

2. Attempted to download the latest version of VLC Media Player 1.1.9. It took several tries before I got a download to install correctly. At first, I was sent by IE 9/Bing (I suspect Bing highjacked the browser, and took me to outside sites). I think during these attempts I was DLing from SourceForge. When these setup files didn't work, I eventually found the correct site to DL from (videolan.org) That DL worked find, VLC works great, and I simply deleted the other (failed) setup files I had DLed.

3. Did a System Restore back to April 5, 2011 to try to get rid of the error message.

4. Downloaded Periform CCleaner and ran that to try to get rid of any registry errors.

5. Spent approx. 2 hours on the phone with a Microsoft represent in the General Assistance Department. He did the "take control of my computer" thing, and did all sorts of things I didn't really follow. At the end of it, he said it was probably leftover from a virus that my Avira g... Read more

Could you explain when this error message pops up? Are you actually able to boot and get to your desktop?

I'm a newbie to this forum. Just got a new HP Pavilion d6500t with installed Vista Ultimate x64. Has been tough going, but was scraping by until today. I installed Quickbooks (via download) and transferred my data files from my old pc to the new pc. Things seemed fine...then BAM!

The screen became "jumpy" and I received a number of error messages. Could not bring up Task Manager, so I had to shut down the pc manually (turned it off). Reboot involved a system check because of the manual shut-down. System check was fine...but, now my pc is frozen on a black screen with the hp logo in the middle. My choices are the usual: Press <ESC> to enable startup message, <F1> to enter System information...etc.

MY PROBLEM: I cannot go ANYWHERE from here. The F-keys are not responding AND I cannot even manually shut off the pc!

I am a total novice when it comes to pc systems. I need help DESPERATELY. Any suggestions out there?

Hi
I've an ongoing problem which is now very annoying.
At any given time my PC will turn itself off. It's not a controlled shutdown, it's literally as if someone has pulled the power supply. There's no blue screen and I just can't work out what the problem is.
If you then try to turn the PC on after this failure it won't. The fans whir and the lights come on but there are no beeps on start up and nothing is displayed on my monitor.
I can then get the PC to work by removing the power cable completely, waiting 30 seconds and then attempting to turn back on.
Generally it seems to happen during my syncing of my mp3 player, whilst media player is converting to say WMA format. Or during a compression of a ZIP file. It appears to be through cpu intensive applications. It will also do it on occasions during a full virus scan (Mc Afee INternet Security)
I had major problems a few months back as the "failure" corrupted the boot segment of my drive - which fortunately I was able to recover.
The PC is often on most of the day but during light use or sitting idly by it seems to have no problems.
THere are so many options of what could be at fault - memory, power supply, cpu, bad driver. I don't know where to start.
Is there a way I can create a log of activity to try and see what's causing this? I'd like to start logging of anything useful, start a media sync and see what happens.
My system details are:

Minor but annoying problem here.

I have 2 external 300GB hard drives (IDE type) connected via USB. Let''s call them D drive and E drive.

Well, let's say that I have them both turned on while my system is on and for some reason I have to reboot my system. Well, once my system is rebooted and up and running again I can start using D drive right away. But if I want to use the E drive, I have to turn the drive off then back on again in order for the system to recognize the drive after the system reboot.

It's always been this way ever since I got the drives about 8 months ago or so. I only now just decided to post about it since it's only a minor annoyance.

Anyone know why the D drive is ready to use after a system reboot without having to turn it off then on again whereas the E drive isnot?

Would love the E drive to behave like the D drive, of course.

Thanks.

Hello forum,

I have a windows 8 laptop and a linux desktop, both connected to the same screen using hdmi - since my screen has only 1 HDMI input, I use an HDMI splitter.

Every time I move from the linux to the windows 8 laptop (using a HDMI mini remote control), I get a message from windows saying that in order to apply these changes I need to reboot.

Note that I also use the same wireless keyboard and mouse for both computers - each time I change from one computer to the other, I unplug the USB that controls them and plug it in the computer I will use.

I think that the problem is related to the HDMI, not the keyboard/mouse usb - but I am not sure.

Needless to say that it is very annoying and I cant keep restarting the LT each time I move from one to the other.

I checked event viewer to see what causes this and these are the relevant messages:

1 - Device 'USB\VID_045E&PID_0745&MI_01\7&1a5cec9a&0&0001' requires installation.
Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-PnPConfig/Configuration
Kernel-PnPConfig
Event id: 3

2 - A reboot is required to complete device installation of device 'USB\VID_045E&PID_0745&MI_01\7&1a5cec9a&0&0001'
Microsoft-Windows-UserPnp/DeviceInstall
UserPnp
Event id: 8000

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this, make it stop requesting reboots?

Many thanks in advance,

linuxgirl

A:"A reboot is required to complete device installation"

Addition - I just plugged and unplugged the usb that controls the wireless keyboard and mouse (without moving to the other computer) and got the same request as above - so I think I was wrong and the plugging and unplugging of the wireless usb causes windows to try to "reinstall and restart" - question is why does it do that and how do I solve it? I tried to find pnp configurations that could be changed, but didn't find anything.

Thanks again!

Hi,
Is there a registry setting or option to turn off the message

"other users are logged on"

you get when you try to turn off or restart/ Windows 7, vista, xp etc? (Also ubuntu if it's not off topic)

Whats a "quite command"?

I guess I'm looking for no warning even if other users are logged on and multi RDP.

Also where are the settings to turn on or off the various windows warning messages and notices? (I'm NOT referring to the "action center" messages).

I'm doing a lot of virtual testing and multi RDP etc.

Also how do you go through 2 subnets, where one is a virtual VMWare subnet

Real PC -> Physical router (ADSL Modem Internet gateway) 1 -> Physical sub router 2 -> VMware subnet router -> VMWare workstation.

Thank you.

A:Turn off, disable "other users are logged on" message when restarting

Yeah log the other users off.

Setup the VM to use your on board NIC instead of a virtual NIC on another subnet.

Hey all,

I have sorta problem...got a fast laptop but Sony/Microsoft insists on installing tons of bloatware into new machines that it takes hours to uninstall everything...so I did most of the uninstalling and researching but since I'm completely new to Windows 7 I'd thought no question is a stupid question since I always used 98/Xp and I'm moving more into a realm I do not know but trying to at the moment... So here is my question.

I have the following that I'm wondering if I can uninstall without hurting windows 7 or how it operates as i do not build programs I do not see the use for this. please be aware this is Windows 7 Ultimate i have..

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
A Couple of more of those...

Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Microsoft SQL Server 2008
Microsoft SQL VSS

Oasis2Service.1.0

PlayReady PCTuneRuntime amd64

and a couple of MSXML SP2

Which of theses can i uninstall without hurting the computer...cause this bloatware is annoying...my gosh XD

Thanks All!
Take Care~

Hey Guys,

If you are using Kaspersky on Windows XP, and your Blue Shift is not working, I may have a solution for you. If you go into Kapersky, go to My Security Zone and then application activity. Go to Category and then click all. Scroll down until you find everything to do with Blue Shift ( Half Life Launcher, installation etc). Right click on each of these and change the status to Trusted. The game should work now. I hope this helps I've had the problem for a while and it was driving me nuts. I'd also like to thank the user "fragger" for giving me the idea to look at Kaspersky. If your reading this, hope it helps you out buddy.

User 1 logs in and works does whatever... Doesn't log out but screensaver goes back to user screen.

User 2 logs in (switching users - not logging out user 1) and gets to work.

Sometime later (ie. not right away) and not at a prescribed time, the network stops working.

I try to disable / enable the network adapter and the machine freezes.   Reboot fixes problem.

If user 1 or user 2 is the only one logged in then never a problem.

Anyone heard of this?
Thanks for any help!

A:Multiple Windows 7 Users-Switch between Users-network stops working

When switching users, it's always a good idea to have User 1 close out any applications and documents they have open and then log out before User 2 logs in. It sounds like you have fast user switching enabled, but I'm not aware of that causing any network issues -- unless User 1 was doing something that required a network connect.

Check the Event Viewer for error logs from the time it froze when you tried to disable and enable the network adapter. Post the event ID and description here if you need help diagnosing the issue from the log files. Perhaps another fix is to disable fast user switching, so that users are always forced to log out before someone else can log in.

A:Lost Access Permissions to C:\Users\All Users\Application Data Folder

If Application Data, this is not a real folder but a junction used to allow interface with legacy programs. No access is necessary since it is pointing to the Appdata folder.

working with vista homeprem sp2 32bit here. ran a quick avast scan a few minutes ago, it caught some small-time junk in the temporary internet files (which were purged easily enough), but it also pointed out C:\users\all users as "the system cannot find the path specified". so I open up windows explorer and try to go there. cue the "refers to a location that is unavailable" error message. now, I don't usually need to prod around in there so I'm not familiar with what normally happens, but I know vista loves to have a bunch of directories displayed that are shortcuts it uses for people who leave "hide protected OS files" checked (I don't, I want to see what's where) which really ought to not be shown when you're not hiding stuff but I digress, that's for MS to be groused at after win8 flops.

SO. should I panic that I've had another thing sneak past the security screens (mvp hosts file, spyware blaster, avast's shields, mbam scans)? nothing else seems out of sorts, but one man's paranoia is another man's preparation, and all.

Hi everyone,

I am the web masters of a local snowmobile club and our new website is having a few problems with printing. Please take a look at the site, http://www.strathroysnoblizzards.com/Strathroy_Sno-Blizzards/index.html

As you can see it has a black background which when printed on my Mac OS X has no problems with printing (it leaves out black background and keeps the text and images) and prints everything.

The problem is that one of our members are ticked that they can not print the site because of the black showing up above the text and images and I really don't want to change the background because it look good the way it is, so is there any way to change to printer settings or some ideas for him to help him out with this problem.

Second problem is that out of 4 pages, 2 are blank with nothing on it and there is suppose to be text and images on those pages, anyway how to fix this too?

Thanks Guys

A:Website printing??? (backgrounds causing problems with PC users but not Mac users)

I only have one suggestion. Do they have this unchecked?
Print background colors and images.

IE->Tools->Internet Options->Advance Tab-> scroll down
to the Printing headline. Make sure it is unchecked.

What is the best way to share execution priviledges between limited users, power users, and administrators?

Say an application has already been installed by a higher priviledged user type, and a limited user cannot execute it - e.g. an ISP login software, or Spy Sweeper. Note: ISP login software lacks profile, so I suppose I could just create that, however, Spy Sweeper is a head scratcher.

Should the application be uninstalled and reinstall under All Users? How do you install an application to allow All Users to use it?

I have already tried to use the "Run As" right-click Properties w/Shift key approach and that does not work.

Is there an approach with regard to local security policy that would do what I want to do? How is that done? Or, is Access Control List the way to go?

Does anyone know what explorer is showing OneDrive instead of Chad in this case? You can see the first pic that shows OneDrive, but then when you select the folder in the explorer path, it shows the true path is D:\Users\Chad.
Is this a registry setting?

Thanks in advance!
Chad

Hi, There seems to have been a problem with a Microsoft Antispyware update, so those of you who have BOTH Norton software, and use Microsoft Antispyware program, had better wait till the next update which will hopefully resolve this:

We are seeing several other posts with this issue, right now, so I am sure it is not a mistake.

This only affects the corporate edition and has been corrected in the latest MS Anti-Spyware updates.

Vivaldi browser heavy users & users share your experience here plzz.

And plzz reply the following in your post ---
1. Are you running Vivaldi as your main browser?
2. Vivaldi 32 or 64 Bits Browser?
3. Vivaldi Installed or Portable/Standalone?
4. Your experience with Vivaldi, add-ons compatibility, features you miss, etc...

A:Vivaldi Browser Heavy Users & Users

1. Secondary Browser
2. 32 Bits
3. Portable/Standalone
4. Overall experience good. I only use Google Translate & IDM extension. IDM video download bar doesn't appear on videos. I miss inbuilt translator, flash, etc... Sometimes I notice page load takes little time.

And I would like "Open link in new tab" work as Chrome or an option to set that way. "Open link in background tab" is the 3rd option & as a Chrome user I have the habit of clicking 1st option so gets annoying.

After forgetting the local administrator password, I followed that guide for offline editing the SAM registry file. This clearly caused a problem, because no I see no users in LUAG as per the attached. All the accounts work fine, except the built-in administrator account which I can't do anything with (if I try to enable it using the 'net user' command, net crashes).

I suspect I may just have to live with this, but does anyone have any suggestions about how to 'clean' the administrator account in the registry so that LUAG works again?

Thanks

A:No users visible in Local Users and Groups

Check your Windows version!

If you have the Windows 10 Home edition, then it will not have Local Users and Groups (lusrmgr.msc) included in it. It's only available in the Pro and Enterprise editions instead.

What command(s) you use to activate the Administrator?

As Administrator, I?ve created my own folders for my documents. These are located in the D: partition of my hard drive; and they are shown in the Library section of the contents of the computer, on the left.
Now, when opening the computer from the Guest Account, my own folders do not appear in the Library, all right. But just below the Library there appears the rest of the computer content, including the D: partition, and any Guest can access all the folders and files there, including my documents.
How can I hide the folders of each User from any other Guests, not only in the Library but also in their actual location in the hard drives?
Thanks for any help.
ACA

A:Hiding Users' files from Guest Users

OK this appears to be a simple permissions issue.

go to your root folder on the D: drive and right click the folder and select properties.

on the security tab you should see a list of those who have access to the folder - Make sure that your user has full rights and remove all rights to the "everyone" user group. This when OK'd should xascade down to all files and folders contained in the folder

If you wish you can adjust the rights available to any other particular user on the system - Make sure that you do not remove or change any rights given to system or administrative users unless you fully understand the result

I have an odd situation I have been tracking for some time and I think I have it isolated to when it will occur and when it does not. I am posting
it just to see if anyone else has this issue and knows of a fix. My guess is most people just think their PC is stuck and power off and back on to reboot.
The issue was that when my Windows 7 pro laptop applied a Defender update  the laptop took roughly 45 minutes to reboot.
What I found was the issue happens in these situations:

The Defender patch was 400KB or largerA Windows Restart is used to apply the patchIf I applied the patch via a Windows update manually, then issues a Windows RestartIf I allow the patch to apply during a Windows Shutdown, the next power on boot is delayed
It does not happen in this situation:

I apply the patch via Windows Update, then do a shutdown to power off the unit, then power the laptop back
on, there is no issue.
In all instances the patch is applied successfully based on what the Windows update history shows. The patch itself applies very quickly in all situations
To me it seems like a Restart after a Defender update is causing Defender to run a scan before allowing the laptop to boot. The laptop will just
stay on the Starting Windows screen with the 4 colored window for 45 minutes then boot normally. Typically running a Defender scan on the laptop takes about 45 minutes which is why I think the Windows Update\Restart sequence is triggering a scan. Normally

I purchased my HP Compaq 8710p laptop from Purdue University in May of 2008. A little after that it was stolen from me. Thankfully I had it LoJack secured, and they were able to recover it in London. When I got my computer back, however, the Windows XP that it had come pre-installed with was replaced with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I never had an issue with it for two years until now.

It seems like my computer overheats more often then it should, especially if it is on my lap or the fan is covered at all. This may be normal but even more annoying than that is whenever it shuts down from an overheat or it goes in to sleep mode or I ever have to manually shut it down, it gets to the Windows loading screen where the colors come in from the sides, then freezes, flashes the BSOD and then reboots. When I try to run the Repair, it take about half an hour then says Repair couldn't fix the computer.

Anyone have any ideas?

Under Windows 2000, when I reformat the computer, I add administrator user as a network user in the install process. Then, I go in and add local users to the computer. Later on when I want to add network users, it won't let me, the computer just hangs. Any ideas?

A:Can't add network users after add local users

Not much information to go on here, but are you signed on as a network admin when you are trying to add the network users?

When you say you add the administrator user as a network user, what are you referring to? Are you adding the Network Administrator account to the local PC?

I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.

So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.

Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?

A:Show processes from all users, with no other users

All users includes not only other users, if any but the System as well.

I am running W10 Pro x64 1511.

The laptop came with a default account for USER, so the underlying subfolders of Users are in users\USER\.
For various reasons I wanted to have them under my name i.e., users\FP\. So I added another admin user FP with which I login. However, no users\FP\ folder was created and the information is still stored in users\USER\.

Any idea why and how I could get the system to create the FP users folder and store the information there?

Thanks.

A:Consistency between users and Users folders

How did you add the second admin account?
