Why does ETW EventWriteString have binary payload and can not be printed as message

Q: Why does ETW EventWriteString have binary payload and can not be printed as message

I wanted to extend my Eventlog (Event Trace for Windows) by an additional component where I just want to log strings. I am using code like the following one.
#include <Evntprov.h>
#include <evntrace.h>
#include <minwindef.h>

// {38F4122A-4D8C-465A-9EFC-F7E632A84ABF}
static const GUID MyApplicationGuid = { 0x38f4122a, 0x4d8c, 0x465a, { 0x9e, 0xfc, 0xf7, 0xe6, 0x32, 0xa8, 0x4a, 0xbf } };

REGHANDLE regHandle = nullptr;
EventRegister(MyApplicationGuid, nil, nil, &regHandle);

EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L"Hello");
EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L", ");
EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L"world");
EventWriteString(regHandle, TRACE_LEVEL_INFORMATION, 0x0, L"!");

EventUnregister(regHandle);

I already have registered a provider with the given guid that shows up correctly and those events are part of the etl logfiles as generic events. To this point everything seems to be fine but when I want to add the message as a column I am not capable to
see the logged strings because they are stored in a binary payload element.
Is there a way to define an event/template to format the traces done with EventWriteString into a message string. Something like "%1"? (There is already a Header Flag STRING_ONLY set.)

I have an Access database used on daily basis to enter and print the maintenance work order in a report format. I have assigned a command button to print the required record. On clicking the button in the Form, a parameter query will run asking the user to put the record number to proceed. Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

My question is as follows:

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

Also, a message box should warn the user saying incase if the record was already printed, “The record was previously printed, do you want to continue printing again?”

Please tell me a way to perform the above in my Form.
Thanks,
Hash

could't you just add a field in the record for printed?

Then if printeed true, show warning, else show printable form.

I have been bombarded this past week with dozens of virus alerts from my NAV program. The alert is always the same. "Norton AntiVirus has detected and removed a virus from your computer."
Object Name: D:\payload.dat
Virus Name : Backdoor.Trojan
Action Taken: The file was automatically deleted
I don't know too much about viruses or Trojans; but I do a live up-date of NAV weekly and I do have a trojan remover program installed (Pest Patrol). Both programs tell me that my computer is free of viruses and trojans.
Would anyone know just what is happening here....other than NAV is just doing its job. ??? Just what is Payload.dat and should I be concerned with the frequency of these alerts ??? I've had this computer for a year and have had no alerts until this week. Now it's 1 every 15 Mins. when I use it. Do I just have to sit here and put up with these alerts or is there something I should be doing about it ??? Sorry if I sound so dumb.....but i just don't know enough about these things. Thanks in advance for any help......Joe

Hi,

What is the size of the header and what is the size of the payload in an IP packet?

In reference to my query I am quoting a few lines from an article “Measuring network throughput” on Wikipedia.

“People are often concerned about measuring the maximum data throughput rate of a communications link or network access. A typical method of performing a measurement is to transfer a 'large' file and measure the time taken to do so. The throughput is then calculated by dividing the file size by the time to get the throughput in megabits, kilobits, or bits per second.

Unfortunately, the results of such an exercise will result in the goodput which is less than the maximum throughput, leading to people believing that their communications link is not operating correctly. In fact, there are many overheads in transmission that mean the calculated goodput does not reflect the maximum throughput.” [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Measuring_network_throughput]
Thanks in advance

I've got to do some stuff with binary trees and binary search trees, but I'm having difficulty with it and was wondering if there might be some people here who could offer me help.

1) What's the difference between a binary tree and a binary search tree?

2) If I have a set of integers, say x = [5, 7, 12, 2, 4, 18, 9, 10, 1] and I have to put these into a binary tree, how do I decide where each integer goes, ie how do I decide what is the root, what are its children etc.

3) Same as above for a binary search tree. Are there any differences?

Thanks.

First off, this is technically a repost. I am reposting after following the instructions here Windows Update Posting Instructions

I cannot install windows service pack 1. I attached my error code screenshot. I created a CBS.zip but it was too large to attach (more on that below). After troubleshooting windows update, I completed the following steps:

1. System Update Readiness Tool
I downloaded and installed/ran the appropriate SURT for my system and let it complete.

2. SFC Scan
I opened an elevated command prompt and entered the sfc /scannow command. After it completed, it stated 'Windows found no integrity violations'

3. Windows Update Error Codes
After completing the two above steps, I attempted to install SP1 again. The error code I get is 80073712 as seen in the attached screenshot.

4. Log Collection
I copied the CBS folder from C:\Windows\Logs to my desktop then sent it to a compressed zip folder. When I checked the CheckSUR text, it said I had several CSI payload files missing. From other threads, it seems that I need to obtain these files somehow. I'm not sure what steps to take after this.

My compressed zip CBS folder is too big to attach, approximately 15MB and the limit is 8MB. Is there another way I can upload it here that is acceptable? I also cannot for the life of me locate my original disc to do a repair install. Thanks for any help!

A:Can't install SP1, CSI payload files missing

remove the older CBSPersist files from the archive until the compressed size is under the 8MB limit, then upload the file.

Hello, I'm new to this forum.
My issue is very similar to this thread: Issues installing Win 7 SP1, CSI payload files missing

I've been having trouble installing windows service pack 1 for a while now. I've tried several things including the sfc /scannow command (no integrity violations found) and the system update readiness tool which installed and ran but I still could not install SP1.

I checked the CheckSUR text file which I will paste below (sorry for the wall of text let me know if there are better ways for me to post it). It seems I am missing several CSI payload files. There are also text files called CheckSUR.persist and CBS that say similar things, but I am only pasting from CheckSUR. I am sorry I am not too familiar with them. I need help obtaining the files and am not sure what to do once I get them. I tried to follow along very closely to what was said in the thread above. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Within the last 48 hours, I have received link only email messages from two seperate clients that link to (domains removed so no one here clicks into what I presume is a site with a virus downloader) "/cms/modules/Search/tubyus.htm" and "/blog/wp-content/themes/tubyus.htm". A quick search of "tubyus.htm" on Google returns scores of pages ending with both of the previously listed paths attached to multitudes of random domains; yet I have been unable to find any results that link it to virus discussion or AV virus database results.

I thought I should post here because since these only came in (to me) within the last two days, and since most of the Google results (that have associated dates) have only populated since 07/14/2011, I think we may have a new virus with a payload that drops "randomdomain/blog/wp-content/themes/tubyus.htm" or a varient thereof to an infected user's entire contact list.

I will not be contacting either of these people today until much later this evening because it is my wife's birthday and I am taking her and my daughter to a waterpark to celebrate However, if I get back early enough and can get ahold of either of them I will connect remotely and run mbam, DDS, and GMER and see if I can identify what virus is dumping this payload into their email and post the results here.

I'm not sure if I have posted this in the right loaction, but as this virus payload appears to be less than 72 hours old and re... Read more

Hi team, and especially NoelDP.

I have eleven CSI payload files missing, and NoelDP, I see you have been able to help a lot of people find these files and re-install them on their system. I have attached a copy of CheckSUR.log, as well as a CBS.log from a SFC scan I ran today.

If you could help me find these files that would be amazing, so that I can finally install Windows 7 SP1!

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Today, as I finished up doing some bill paying, my computer rebooted. As soon as it came back up, I ran a virus scan, and it came up positive for JAVA Payload.D

Avira removed it. Last time I was infected, Avira's removal was complete. I've run MalwareBytes and it didn't find anything, but I'm really concerned because Event Viewer has some really troubling entries in it and some things on my system have been changed. For one, Windows Firewall has been re-activated, seemingly by itself, and Event Viewer's logs appear to indicate that it has been tampered with. This did NOT happen last time I was infected with this virus. EDIT: I've gone back through and it seems the firewall was probably re-enabled when I did my last set of Windows updates. The logon/logoffs, including periodical anonymous logons, seem to have been happening over the last month. They may be valid?

Use these forums for years and years, but have not needed to actually ask for help. But here I am!

Apparently a relative's computer has not been able to install SP1 since it was released. I have been tasked with resolving the issue. If it was not a primary "work from home" computer, It would have been wiped by now.

Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit.

Installing from Windows Update fails (0x80073712)
Installing from downloaded installer fails (ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT - 0x80073712)

Running System Update Readiness Tool says it completes successfully and installs Hotfix 847921, but SP1 will still not install.

Here is the most recent log:

I am working on a computer for over a week now. Each time I run Windows updates it appears to complete successfully but upon reboot all changes are reverted. Ultimately I am trying to upgrade to IE 10 or 11 from 8 but would like to fix the Windows update mechanism as well.

I have run CheckSur and SFC.

CheckSur did fix many issues but I am stuck now with three missing files:

I am at a lost. I've been avoiding updating the SP1 for months. Today, I finally decided to figure out the issue. I have run the Update Troubleshooter. The Readiness tool and checksur.

I'm getting the error code: 80073712
I found out that means the Component Store is corrupt.

Here is the CBS file:

Attachment 258339

The CheckSUR says I am missing:
(f) CSI Payload File Missing 0x00000000 efisys.bin amd64_microsoft-windows-b..ironment-dvd-efisys_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_c0c6eceaf97c4827

I am lost as to how to find those files and how to fix the corruption. My Windows 7 was installed when I purchased the laptop. I'm sure I have a backup disk somewhere, but I would have to find it. I would prefer not to have to install or reinstall if it is possible to fix it.

I appreciate any help.

In Windows 7 Registry, "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{F4E57C4B-2036-45F0-A9AB-443BCFE33D9F}\Count", there are 72 binary bytes value, but only there are 16 binary bytes value in XP, and i known the last 8 bytes mean the date that the shortcut clicked. I have researched the 72 bytes in Windows 7, seem 61 - 68 byte save the shortcut clicked date, but i can not convert the bytes to right date.

Hello,

Theres an analysis of win7 Userassist registry keys by Didier Stevens in his forensic magazine. Heres a link to that issue.

http://go2.wordpress.com/?id=725X134...s-issue-0x0%2F

Stevens has also released a tool that can analyze the structure of these keys for you (its a beta. Google for the final version).

Q: Binary

I am not sure if i put this in the right catagory, i apologize, if it is incorrect.

I understand that binary is an 8 digit system. It uses "switches' of 1 and 0s. When you have 8 of these switches, or bits, u get a byte. A single letter, number, symbol, or etc is a byte. I understand that fine, correct me if i am wrong in any of my explaination.

My question is this, how can i find what a byte is? In better words, if i have 8 bits, how can i tell what letter, number or symbol it is?

Thank you for your time,

I really have to finish my computer assignment and I am confused at few questions.

1) Say Computer A has a 1GHz processor and 16-but word size. Computer B has a 2GHz processor and 32-bit word size. Compare the processing speeds of these computers quantitatively. Show calculations.

2) Conversion from true-color graphic to black and white. Explain what the conversion did in terms of pixel bytes or bits.

3) If you run the CPU simulator program, you will find that it uses the system bus 12 times. Explain how this number comes about. (You must explain why based on how cpu operates. This will involve a little arithmetic. Show all).

The last questions I believe uses the concept of

1) Fetch
2) Decode
3) Execute
4) Store.

A:Binary Code

What do you mean by binary code?
Something generic, like writing the number 42 as 101010? In this case it would be used for everything... since it's the way your computer stores all information, in 0 and 1...
But if you mean something more specific, then please tell me what, cause I don't know what you mean.

A lot of the stuff in this forum goes beyond my comprehension. However, I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Right now, I'm dealing with the "horseserver.com" problem that a few others have had. Didn't find much when I searched for it, though. Anyway, I have no idea where to find the problem or how to go about resolving it. My computer will occasionally go to 100% CPU usage and start lagging out. I don't see anything suspicious in my HJT log. I tried the StartDreck, too. I'll paste them both in here and see if anyone can find a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Binary Frustration. Please help!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

I should have started with this thread.
I've posted a link for an example to your thread http://forums.techguy.org/development/657197-how-apply-binarysearch-array.html (there's no need to duplicate thread for the same problem).
I've adapted the coding of the example this way :

Code:
[SIZE=2]
public class BinarySearch
{
public static final int NOT_FOUND = -1;

public static int binarySearch( int[ ] a, int x )
{
int low = 0;
int high = a.length - 1;
int mid;
while( low <= high )
{
mid = ( low + high ) / 2;
if( a[ mid ] < x )
low = mid + 1;
else if( a[ mid ] > x )
high = mid - 1;
else
return mid;
}
return NOT_FOUND; // NOT_FOUND = -1
}

public static void main( String [ ] args )
{
int SIZE = 8;
int MAX = 16;
int [ ] a = new int [ SIZE ];
Random generator = new Random();
for( int i = 0; i < SIZE; i++ )
a[ i ] = generator.nextInt(MAX);
[COLOR=Red]Arrays.sort(a);[/COLOR] // Edit : to sort the array (see artur02's remark)

for( int i = 0; i < SIZE * 2; i++ )
if (binarySearch(a,i) != NOT_FOUND) {
System.out.println("Number " + i + " has been found");
}
}
}[/SIZE]

Hi,

I had some issues with a virus which I have now resolved, but at one point I couldnt use IE7 so I tried to download Mozilla without a web browser by following someone's instructions. Unforunately it didn't work, and one of the things I did manage was to change to Binary (not even sure what that means). I was directed to go to Start>Run>ftp> open releases/mozilla.org etc with a few more commands> at the end I was instructed to write "type image" and when I went to download software instead of coming up with the usual boxes the prompts were Binary. Can someone help me change back please?

As a side note, I use McAfee Virus Protection and I deleted it and added a trial version of AVG, when I deleted the trial version to upload my renewed McAfee I could only download the software to the installation section and then an error came up, I suddenly lost a lot of access to sites, including any site that was connected with virus protection. After 6 hours of hunting using my iPhone and limited computer access I was able to hunt down an alternative on this site involving Start>Run>cmd> net stop dnscache, after I used this process I was able to download McAfee which is now working. This proves I obviously had some DNS Cache poisoning (?). The only virus a McAfee scan detected was called Downloader-CEW.b? Now I just want to check that I've cleaned everything up, if someone could look at my Hijack this registry to see that would be so appre... Read more

My question is this, if you have a network and you have to create new IP addresses, where does that binary number come from? I see how you can take a number and create a binary number.....but where does that original number come from?

10011100 = 156 How did the get 10011100, where did it com from?

I have a habit of saying what's in my head and not having it really understandable so let me try again.

Hope that makes sense.....

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now, and I've been unable to solve this problem. Perhaps someone out there can provide some guidance.

Sometimes, I'm unable to print things (such as online coupons) because I'm told that my printer is set to "Keep Printed Documents." I've tried disabling this setting via the Advanced tab under the printer's properties. However, when I do this, click Apply then OK, and close the tab, the setting automatically reverts back to "Keep Printed Documents". Does anyone know why this is happening? It's sort of frustrating to not be able to set the printer settings the way you choose.

I appreciate any tips/suggestions you might have. Thanks!

Hi i was wondering if there is a way in which i can write some data using vb into a file but in binary format so that if someone opens it it cannot be read. for example a file called
"C:\windows\desktop\bin.dat" cantains that data "HEllo" but in binary.

also having done this is there a way in which i can then open the binary file and read the data and convert it back into text to display within a text field.

ive tryed doing it but something seems to go wrong. i would really appreciate some help on this guys its kinda difficult.

Thankyou have a nice day.

A:VB Binary Read/Write

A simple way of doing this is as follows, all this essentially does is do a replace of characters with others so that it appears to scramble the content. There is no real encryption and it could be decoded if someone wanted to spend the time:
Code:

Private Sub Command1_Click()
WriteFile "c:\development\test.txt", "Hello there how is this then?"
End Sub

Private Sub Command2_Click()
MsgBox ReadFile("c:\development\test.txt")
End Sub

Private Sub WriteFile(ByVal FileName As String, ByVal Content As String)
Open FileName For Binary As #1

Hi,

Can someone help me come up with an algorithm in which I could count the number of 1's in the binary representation of an integer?

Thank you for any help

A:[ASSEMBLY] 1's in binary representation

Can you tell me more about how the problem is defined with respect to negative values and what you want to know?
Do you want the sign extends or just one of the bits?
Is there a restriction to two's complement representation?
For example here's both pos and neg 32 (using a 32 bit int)

Code:
32 ==> 00000000 00000000 00000000 00100000
-32 ==> 11111111 11111111 11111111 11100000
The obvious and straightforward method for a positive int or a dword etc. could look like:

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#define numIntbits 32

int main() {
int i;
unsigned int numbits;
int testInt = 32;

for (i=0,numbits = 0;i<numIntbits;i++) numbits += (testInt >> i) & 1;
printf("%i\n", numbits);
return 0;
}
--- edit :
Whoops - I just noticed you wanted assembler - but I'll wait on your response about negative values

ISSUE: 1. WINDOWS XP WILL ONLY DOWNLOAD BINARY FILES

2. CANNOT DELETE BINARY OR PARTIAL-INCOMPLETE FILES.

I can't recall when it started, on what day, but it's become worse as I downloaded more files and/or installed programs. I'm thinking the file screw-up started over two weeks ago. I was in need of a rare cam driver, so I downloaded it. Now there was a particular webcam driver software approximately 6 or 8 months ago (vimicro) that, upon initial installation, prompted AVG Free to alert me of a virus, can't remember what the message AVG listed. But even after that, I simply deleted the program, ran a full scan, and everything was fine.

Almost every program download only gives a partial file and/or binary file.

Wait, something else: Ya know, I do believe I know what program first started this all: Adobe download Manager; that's the one. It would d/l only a partial file. Then I ran the update again and it installed just fine I think.

What do I get now? I get binary or partial program files that are supposed to be .exe programs; they download only as binary files.

STEP(S) I'VE TRIED:

1. Attempt to remove partial an/or binary files. That was unsuccessful.

2. Reinstall Adobe; still get only binary downloads.

THINGS I'M GOING TO TRY:

1. Reboot in safe mode, then remove all binary and partial/incomplete files.

2. Launch System Re... Read more

I have win7 64 bit and use a currency trading platform that relies on Java. I have been running it quite happily for several months but now find that the platform freezes when I ask it to work a little harder. I have to close it via Task Manager and that is when I get the warning that Java is not responsive.

There have been numerous emails between me and the broker but it is clear they have no idea what is causing the problem.

To date, I have tried the following remedies:
Removed all Java files and reinstalled.
Tried Java 64 bit alone, tried it with 32 bit in tandem, and tried 32 bit alone.
Tried a previous version of Java recommended by my broker.
Tried starting via Chrome and IE.
Sent copies of Java console logs to the broker (the Java console freezes simultaneously with the platform so I can only send a screen print showing the latest info).
Run CC Cleaner, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.
Reinstalled the platform data.

Basically, I've tried numerous permutations, including removing everything relating to the problem, cleaning up, and reinstalling.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

See this post for setup info: Process Explorer 16

You might try Process Monitor to see if you can find the cause of the freeze.

Assumes all telephone numbers are exactly 8 digits (for simplicity). Given a data file containing a list of telephone numbers with corresponding words, i want to write a program that enable a user to type in one or more 8-digit telephone numbers and retrieve and display the corresponding words.

This program should read in the data file of telephone numbers and associated words (which is ordered on telephone number) and store in a vector of structs (called numwordList).

When the user enters a 8-digit telephone number, the program should perform a binary search of the vector for the entered telephone number and display the associated words (if they exist). The words were generated using the International Standard Keypad.

Sample output which it is going to be like:

Welcome to Telephone Word Finder
Please enter name of data file : data.txt

Menu
1. Enter a telephone number
2. Quit

What would you like to do? 1

Enter 8-digit Telephone Number (without spaces) :

Words are cachemic,cachemia

Menu
1. Enter a telephone number
2. Quit

What would you like to do? 2

A definition file telephone.h is attached in the attachment telephone.zip and a sample data file is on attachment as data.txt as well. There should be 2 file which one to be name as telephone.cpp as the implementation file and another would be telewords.cpp as the main program. Hey all,

I am struggling with figuring out the source code on how to convert binary to decimal.

I know that you need to take each digit in the binary number and raise it to the base and power of however many digits there are, like so...

1011 = 1x 2^3 + 0x 2^2 + 1x 2^1 + 1x 2^0 ... which would give the decimal number of 1011.

Could someone please help me figure out how to get this to work in C?

Thank you all in advance...

i am looking for a 'vb' function to convert the data that i have read into a string with the hexadecimal presentation of the value. Just in the same way of that i can see the data with a hexeditor like hexedit or ultraedit.

ex : if the string contains the value : "AaB" the result must be "416142"

but if the second byte of the string contains the binary value 0 then
the result must be "410042"

I need also a function to convert the hexadecimal value back to the binary value

Seraching the internet i found solutions in other languages , but vb is the only language i know a little so i am looking for help

Hi gvp,

You should use arrays in your coding.
Example : Dim array_to_scan() as String
Therefore, you can test the value of each item of the array.

I installed it and everything seemed to be going just fine but then a window popped up saying that the Java platform SE binary had stopped working. I already tried checking if my java was updated, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, uninstalled and reinstalled Java, downloaded a 32-bit version of Java for my 32-bit windows 7 and nothing seems to be working. I also tried the compatibility mode but still haven't managed to get the game going. I really want to be able to play this game and was hoping to find some help here.

The problem I am having is that when I go to print tax return forms from the IRS site or New York Tax Dept site, the form prints "short", that is, the last four or five lines of each page do not print.

You cannot save the data in these forms, they will only save as a blank form. Your only option is to print it.

However, although Adobe tells how to cure this problem ( by clicking File-Print and going down the menu which comes up to "printer scaling", then chosing "print to fit page", this only works if there is a
FILE menu on the left hand side of the page.

In these tax sites, the forms do not have a tool bar above allowing you to chose a FILE menu.
You can right click the mouse and chose PRINT, however it will print a cut off page.

SOOOOOOO ..how do I either:
1. Get a standard Tool Bar to appear on top of the form, on these web site pages, or
2. use some other device or method to print these documents to fit the page.

If any of you are about to suggest right clicking on the printer icon PRINTERS, in the control panel, forget it....my printer does not bring up anything about "Print Scaling".

Hopefully, some geek out there will read this and solve my problem. Thank you. 44 Guy

A:printed pages cut off at bottom

Every computerized tax form that I have seen...is available at the website of the sponsoring governmental agency...and reflects a printed version option which has resulted in everything being printed properly.

I'm not sure where Adobe figures into tax preparation.

If you are using a 3d-party app to do taxes...then the problem resides with the support for that application, IMO.

Anyone seen this and know of a solution, on the Microsoft site I am seeing posts but not a single reply about how to either run a job to clear them out a couple times a day or fix this so they act as configured. To NOT keep printed jobs in the queue.

Don't print much multi page output, so am NOT sure when this problem began.

Originally, the pages on my HP DJ855C were printed as expected: page-1 first, then page-2, etc; this resulted with page-1 being on the bottom of the stack. Depending on the application being used, there was often a Print-Order option available for Back-to-Front printing so that the last page would be printed first and then page-1 would be printed last and be on the top in the stacker.

NOW, things seem to have reversed:
If I do NOT ask for the Back-to-Front, then I seem to get it anyway (i.e., page-1 last and on the top). but if I want the original order (i.e., page-1 first and on the bottom) then I must use the Back-to-Front option.
It seems as though the default has become Back-to-Front and then selecting the option for Back-to-Front re-reverses the order and the result is Front-to-Back.

Possibly this reversal happened when I went to Win/XP; possibly it happened with the installation of some piece of software.

Q. Has anyone else had this exxperience?

Please tell me where I might change some parameter to make the option of Front-to-Back actually print the page-1 first like it did originally?

Any advice apprecaited.

Thanks,,

A:Order of Pages Printed

Digger,

Go into your printers and faxes options off of your start menu.

Select your printer, right click the mouse and click on printing preferences.
On the features tab at the bottom there is a option for start printing from last page. If there is a check mark in the box next to it, click there with the mouse and uncheck it and then click on apply and ok and you should be all set after that?

I was purchased an emachine computer with a Lexmark lasar printer,
Whenever I go to print something, be it a web site article or a personal document that was created using Microsoft Works Word Processor. Whatever is being printed my name appears at the VERY top and the city and state printed at the bottom.
I know little about computers so I'm trying to get an answer why this is being printed.
The only thing that I can come up with is MY NAME, CITY and STATE was somehow entered on this computer's Hard drive and is prints it because it's been entered by someone at the store before iyt was brought home and set up for me.

If there is someway that I can delete this info. being printed, PLESE tell me what to do EXACTLY!

Thank You!

A:I'm new her! Why is my name, town and state being printed?

That's very strange, it sounds like a 'Header and Footer' has been set up with that info and is in your normal.dot template. (If Works uses such a template, I know Word does).
Try doing a Find (or Search depending on your version of Windows) for normal.dot and rename any found to normal.old. Then test the printing again. If there is a problem you change the names back again.

Other than dogging the print preview, and struggling with the size in any pertinent image editing software, has anyone found a reliable way to limit or control the size of a printed web document?
to wit:
I scanned an odd shaped document, 3x8" to email to myself at another site, and the printed form was big enough for two pages. What a waste.
I print receipts regularly and they, 99% of the time have a "trailer" on a last page that has stuff like web site address or URL, a Secure Website emblem, or other, clearly unnecessary printing. My introduction to Windows word processing (WordPerfect) had, and I still use, a "makeitfit" command. Invoking such a command AUTOMATICALLY when printing from the web seems like a simple, brainless way to conserve paper...it'll give me a fractional font (e.g. 11.9 vs. a 12) and would prevent the idiotic tendency of a printed page to only have the leftward 80%, l which leaves off the important stuff like the prices...(you gotta print landscape to avoid this)
And I thought a computer was to make life easier, boy was I ever misled)

A:printed size of web documents

The problem is that web pages are usually coded to make them look good on screen, and that tends to make them "unfriendly" when printing.

Web pages designed for printing do exist, and it works well in those (few) cases.

Cutting and pasting into a word processor is sometimes the only workable solution.

Running in Mozilla

So, a couple of weeks ago I was having troubles w/my graphics card and I replaced it with the above-referenced. Everything was fine until today, I was reviewing some pictures and the system shut down. When it rebooted, it (windows) said that I needed to download a new driver for the NVIDIA. I went to their site and downloaded the correct driver, however, I couldn't FIND it to run it. Instead I went to "Device Manager" and downloaded it from there. After reviewing the properties, somehow it downloaded 32 bit pieces instead of 64. I don't know if that is a problem, but wanted to throw it out there.

So then I noticed that my Samsung Monitor was not displayed as the "Display" (instead, it read "Generic PnP Monitor"). I went to their website and downloaded the driver for that too, but I can't FIND it either.

Since I am using Mozilla, all of my downloads go to my "Downloads" folder, but these two items are not there (no matter how many times I search, or re-download).

Off the topic a bit, I think I should get yet another graphics card b/c my computer is a bit grainy. Any suggestions?

Hi, I received a stmt file from a bank. The file name says "statement.pdf" but the type of file says "binary file". When I click on the "file name" it opens up into a word document window with a "File Conversion" popup that says "select the encoding that makes your document readable" & under that are three buttons: Windows (default); MS-DOS; Other encoding. Since I don't know what that means, I tried again to open the file by clicking on the button that says "open" or "save" & the same thing happens.

The bank says they produce the document, save it in .pdf format & then send it. But when it arrives, it shows up as a "binary file".

I'm not that computer savy so not only do I need assistance on how to open a document from a binary file into the requested format (pdf or tiff), but because I've seen this term before, I also would like to understand a binary file - in simple terms (if that's possible)

I have Windows XP Home Edition

Thanks,

A:[SOLVED] what is a binary file &amp; how do I open it?

In the simplest terms, a binary file is a file that is made up of entirely 1's and 0's (binary code) and it represents what information that the computer will read.

It sounds like you don't have the program needed to open a PDF. I don't know if you are familiar with them, but PDF stands for Portable Document Format, and it's just a simple way for people to send documents that aren't meant to be edited. Adobe Acrobat is needed to read PDF files. If you don't have it, your computer won't recognize what type of file a PDF is, so it will default to a binary file. Follow the link below to download and install Adobe Acrobat for free. Hope this fixes it!

I cold booted to safe mode, ran Spybot, ran Symantec full scan. Came back clean. Booted up and it was back.

I cold booted back to safe mode. Stopped Symantec from partially removing it. Looked at a Hijack This log. Saw the .dll entries. Removed them. Ran Symantec, VundoFix, and VirtumundoBeGone tools (from numerous websites.) Vundofix found and removed 4 additional files. The rest of the scans were clean.

Booted back up, it was back again.

Ran RootkitRevealer, ran Symantec, Both were clean.

Now I'm posting a HiJack This log in hopes someone sees something I don't. I'm out of ideas and am about to reinstall. Something is hiding in there or I'm losing my mind!! Anyone?

Somehow my computer converted all of my binary files to media files by the app affiliated with them.
How do I get them back to binary files?

Well, I figured having a subject of "ID3 Tags..." would cause some people to ignore this... but binary file reading is my problem, so maybe more people will read it this way

Hi,

I know that trusted platform module (TPM) which is used for security of the software on the harddisk and several other authicatation features.But in case of a server, could an authorized person managing the hardware with TPM installed on the board possess the capability to duplicate the running binaries (exes) on the board. Does the TPM have the capability to prevent such a thing.

Thanks
Prem.

I have found a few functions to convert a binary number in string form to a long integer in VB6, but none do 2 compliment, any pointers.

Windows XP Home SP3
Internet Explorer 8
When visiting my companies OWA site on this particular machine I get an Active X prompt to "install mime edit binary behaviour". Once this installs I can no longer right click within the email, and when I type the letters type backward.. (drawkcab)

If I ignore the Active X everything seems to work fine. I have gone to internet options>security>Custom level> and disabled active X prompting. It still comes up. I have reset IE and deleted personal data. I have also removed all add ons from the add on section of IE. Tools>manage add ons> Show all add ons.

Is there a way to disable that prompt? Am I still infected? Combofix found a ton, rkill and malwarebytes removed a few infections as well, but it seems I am missing a step somewhere. That active x doesnt prompt on any of my other machines. My downloads folder is showing as empty, and anytime I download something it disappears.

Thank you.

ok since this is a new issue ill post a new tread on it....

after stress testing my ptogram i have come to understand that not all the characters i am ecoding are working

after splitting a file with some 20 lines or so not all the characters of line for that mater are getting used by the next process..

that bring me to thins the ...the vbs script i receaved from here works on a simple text document..

just like it was suposed to... but for me to continue reading further down the line in the new processes added it needs to read the characters stored in the text file as RAW data or binary form not as characters..

here it the code:

Const OverwriteFile = -1
Const ForReading = 1
Const ForWriting = 2
Const ForAppending = 8

Sub WriteOutputFile(ByRef infile, ByRef outfile, ByVal numOfLines)

readCount = 1
Do Until infile.AtEndOfStream Or readCount > numOfLines
outfile.WriteLine(infile.ReadLine)
readCount = readCount + 1
Loop

End Sub

Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

If WScript.Arguments.Count = 0 Then
WScript.Echo "USAGE: textsplitter.vbs < textfile >"
WScript.Quit
End If

SourceTextFile = WScript.Arguments.Item(0)
If Not fso.FileExists(SourceTextFile) Then
WScript.Echo "ERROR: Text file " & SourceTextFile & " does not exist."
WScript.Quit
End If
If LCase(fso.GetExtensionName(SourceTextFile)) <> "txt" Then
WScript.Echo "ERROR: File " & SourceTextFile & " is not ... Read more

A:New Problem Slitting data in txt....binary?

The Scripting Runtime that has the File System Object does not support binary files, but you can use ADO to handle binary files. Nerds Central has a good article on how to do this.

So I fired up avast, and found 3 Trojans. All were undeletable, and could not be moved to the virus chest. all ended with the same binary.vista.vbs (I did a bit of research, and the section before seems to have a randomly generated name.) There was another thread like this (now locked) that had the same problem. http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/876357-can-not-delete-binary-vista.html. I followed the advice in the other thread until the part about using OTS. I'm not entirely sure what to do (the instructions says to push buttons that aren't there etc.). Currently I'm down to 1 infected file: C:\\WINDOWS\Installer\1443dcf.msi\Binary.vista.vbs

hey guys, Ive posted this in a couple Alienware specific forums but no one seems to know, so I thought I'd give here a try. But if no one really knows its completely understandable because this isn't an Alienware forum. ANYWAYS

whenever I use battery power, i know the best ways to conserve the battery are to switch to Power Saver mode in control panel, use Stealth Mode (alienware thing that cuts clock speeds in half), and switch to Binary (integrated) graphics. The problem I have is... whenever I try to switch to binary graphics, it just simply does not do anything. I've called Alienware and they said the only possible way to switch to binary graphics is to press the FN key + F7. But whenever i press FN + F7, nothing happens. Ill hold it down for a few seconds, nothing happens. I decided to download the Intel Graphics Driver from the Alienware support website and it wouldn't install because it said "your computer does not meet the minimum requirements to install this update". Alienware could not give me an answer. Anyone here have any idea what to do?

I've recently come across a problem when using Internet Explorer while running under Vista.

I wanted to download Adobe Flash Player 10 from their site, but whenever I click on the link, instead of getting the Install/Don't Install prompt for the ActiveX plug-in, all I get is a window asking if I want to save the file, and it is listed as a Binary file.

Attached is an image of the download window.

Now, this woudn't be a problem, as I could just run it as normal after downloading it, but when I click Save File, it downloads it, and then the file disappears. I can't find it anywhere!

So, my problem is, how can I get the Save File prompt to stop showing up, or if I do have to save it, how can I choose where it goes to?

Really, I've tried this on all different sites, and anything I try to download looks like this.

A:Vista saves downloads as binary :(

Click on tools and options and in the main area look in the downloads and look where the save path is directed too. Also it will show up as an exe file.
