Trojan Can Capture Banking Credentials

The new year won't be very happy if a Trojan captures your Internet banking credentials, and one that does just that was discovered on January 1. Called Backdoor.Zins, it can capture keystrokes as you type your account name and password for certain banking Web sites. Be sure to keep your virus definitions up to date!

For more information, see:

Hello,

My Windows 10 was automatically logging me in, until recently, when it started showing me the following

"The username and password is invalid. Please try again"

http://i.imgur.com/BLM98pk.jpg << Screenshot

Then it asks me to enter my Microsoft account password and then lets me log in. How do I make sure that it automatically logs me in?

I also tried enabling PIN, but it shows the same message and gives me an option to login with either PIN or Microsoft account password later.

Thanks in advance.

A:Invalid login credentials on boot

Automatic sign-in stops working for instance when you change computer name. When it no longer works, you can always set it up again. See this tutorial for instructions: Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup - Windows 10 Forums

When using a Litetouch installation the setup keeps getting hung up on an error

"A connection to the deployment share (\\WDS\Deploymentshare\) could not be made.
Connection OK. Possible cause: invalid credentials."
I've tried everything I can possibly think of or find, I have replaced the image in deployment services after completely regenerating the image in MDT 2013 using every different way of connecting to the deployment share i can think of (\\WDS\C$\Deploymentshare\
for example) changed the order of my credentials, checked the bios time and now I'm stuck. Any ideas?

I am trying to access a page on a website and I am getting a message stating "Access is denied due to invalid credentials." When I search Google about this message all the "answers" to this problem discuss something called iis and application pools which I know absolutely nothing about. I am simply clicking on a web page and this comes up. It is a tax preparation site and I do live abroad, but I have used the site before over several years abroad. Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance.

Hello. I have an issue.

I want to capture an Linux OS custom image or a fresh one and want to use WDS to complete the job. Could it be done?

I know I can use WDS from server to deploy WIN 7 or anyother Win OS to other systems. But can I use the same service to deploy Linux OS to other new systems and how can I go around in capturing the Linux OS image.

I don't want to use any third party application to capture and deploy both WIN and Linux images. I can use SysPrep to capture Windows image, but how do I go about capturing Linux image?

Is there an in-built app for Linux to capture an image like SysPrep (for WIN)???

Please help.

I did a quick search of the forum and I couldn't find anything in particular that helps me out - I'm not good with computers although I can follow the directions you give me.

If the computer is running for more than a few hours, I get a crippling error message that almost shuts down all function and requires a hard reboot. Webpages crash and the error message generally doesn't display graphics, although sometimes I am able to at least save whatever I'm working on in Word or Excel. I have managed to recover the error message at last:

The operation of DLL C:\Program Files\Symantec Shared\DefUtDCD.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

Can anyone please help me out? Thank you!

Whenever my Dad's computer turns on, it shows only the desktop image and the message:

"The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\Browseui.dll is not a vilid Windows image. Please check this against you installation diskette."

I don't think there is an installation diskette. It's an HP and just has the HP restore disk of Win XP Home. I also have a regular Microsoft installation disk for Pro.

I can access the task manager, but I can't start new tasks; I just get the same message again. I also can't shut id down, restart it, or sign off the account. It will, however, still act as the printer server.

Help?

loaded both the boot.wim and image.wim into wds server.
the system deploys the standatrd win7 Pro image without issue.
The problem comes when I try to use the image capture wizard.
The client laptop boots to pxe without issue I get the screen that  lets me choose  what I want to load
when I choose the capture image item it loads as normal,(as the deploy does except that all that happens is I get a black screen with a white arrow cursor. the screen never turns blue like you would expect and the image capture wizard never appears.
I have followed all of the steps on the WDS set up page for creating a image capture boot file however as I said it never appears.

I have windows xp and my computer, at start up is displaying this message "The application or DLL C:\Windows\system32\BOWSEUI.DLL is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation Diskette."
What do I do? It will not boot all the way up to my desktop, it just stays on a blue screen, and it seems that I can only get into files on my drive by doing taskmanager and going to file, then by running a new program. I tried looking up info on the web, found a couple of other forums in which people wrote the same problem, but I could not refer to the answers that they were given for in order for it to help me, because their help did not match the files on my computer, and such. PLEASE help! my laptop is my baby!!!

See if you can follow these instructions to boot to Safe Mode with Command Prompt -- and so a System Restore:

Or try running the command line from the Task Manager.

Hi,

Not too sure if I have posted this in the right section, but,

I want to capture still DV images from my camera (not movies) but software that came with the camera no longer works (for some reason). I have a firewire connection with the camcorder.

Can anyone point me in the right direction regards any free software which would allow mw to capture still images from my camcorders memory. I have had a quick search around the interweb but all these DV capture programs only save movies.

What would be my best option.

Thanks,

Do you mean stills from tape? or stills from a memory card?

BTW, if you go to the manufacturers site you should be able to download any software that came with the cam.

Okay, I am sure that what I wish to do is possible. I just don't have the faintest clue as to how to go about it. I watch DVD's on my PC. (a Dell, with window XP home edition and the Inter-Actual Dvd player). What I would love to be able to do is to pause the DVD playback and capture the screen image as a graphic file. So I can make them my background or things like that.

A friend who knows PCs told me that it is just NOT possible on my machine because Microsoft has designed the operating system not to allow this. However, I found a company that offers a program that is supposed to be able to do what I want. (Herculesoft, the DVDgo Pro). But before I drop $50 on this...

Can I do what I want on my PC? and what do I need to do to be able to do so?

thanks for any advise. I'm about ready to pull my hair out over this.

Hello Melisenda,The following are about Windows Media Player, but they might help. They offer several possible solutions:http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/20...s-media-player/http://labnol.blogspot.com/2005/11/capture...om-windows.htmlI'm not sure if the InterActual DVD Player has similar controls. Can you play the DVD using Windows Media Player? The thread in the first link above also mentions VLC Player (from http://www.videolan.org/) as a possible solution for capturing images from DVDs.EDIT: I just noticed after posting this that the VLC Player is also mentioned in "Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps" here at Bleeping Computer.

Alright, I have some sort of conflict, that is not listed in device manager, between a HP-PSC500 parallel port printer and a Kodak USB digital Camera. The printer and scanner works fine useing the HP software. The camera won't transfer pictures at all. No errors in device manager, but under the "scanners and cameras" applet, the properties of both the scanner and the camera shows as unavailable or disconnected. It's not a USB problem as all other USB stuff works fine, it's not a IRQ problem, It's not a twain problem, It's some kinda image capture problem.

Anyway, I'd like to delete and reinstall all files and registry settings related to video capture. Also, I'd like to try to find any unused capture drivers installed on the machine and delete them. Is there any way to do this without reinstalling? This machine is used for audio production and has 200+gigs of critical stuff on it. Fixing all the midi apps and sound stuff is a pain on installation.

Hi Folks,

I am looking for a software that will produce automatic image captures from DVD footage, something like a chapter thumbnail...

I do VHS to DVD transfers in house and I want to make DVD covers from my transfered footage's still images, I have already programmed the template I wanted to use using this program called "fotofusion" and now I need to be able to capture some still images from the DVD footage automaticlly. It would also be nice if I can set the intervals of the caption.

Its an on going job and I need to extract about 50 images per DVD, currently I do it manually but it is very time consuming.

Any thoughts ?

Many Thanks
Rick

I took a job where the previous person is suspected of A LOT of things.

I was able to put aside her computer after copying what files I might need to do the job, and use a different computer. Her computer sits virtually unchanged from the day she was escorted out.

Now I am being pressed to put it back into commission. I don't know if anything on it will be useful for evidence at some date as we investigate what she was doing. Maybe, maybe not.

What's the best way to capture the image, store it and be able to access it again?

I may end up just pulling the drive and stashing it, but I'm wondering what software is best for it.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I don't know if I'm in the right section but I been trying to deploy an image to a new model pc which I captured the image from an older model pc used Windows AIK added the chipset drivers offline and did a commit and now I'm trying to deploy this updated image to this new model pc and it doesn't boot into Windows Vista but it will work on the same model pc, althought if I sysprep the image again it will work on the new model, why is that, it's almost seems like the chipset drivers did get installed but then if I sysprep it works. The reason why I'm doing this is because a client has alot of applications and configurations which I want to avoid building her pc from scratch and just capture the image and the chipset drivers offline commit it and then being able to deploy it to this new model pc. It's odd because I'm sure I have done this in the past and for a reason or another it doesn't work.

Thank you for your help.

Mark

A:capture image to re-deploy to a new model pc.

The most common reason for an image to fail after Sysprep has been run is the installation of security software. Many security and anti-malware applications will protect the system files which Sysprep interacts with and the resulting image will fail, you may wish to disable or remove the anti-virus software before running Sysprep.

However, where your image will boot properly on the reference system, I would look first at other drivers beyond the chipset driver which are necessary for boot. Most specifically, I would look at the storage driver, especially if you are receiving a 0x0000007B error on boot. There are instructions available for preparing an existing image for migration to a new storage mode included in this Microsoft Support article.

Hi- Single Site, single domain. I have WDS running on Windows Server 2012 Standard. Have been using WDS for quite a while now without issue. Created a new image from scratch, applied all updates, installed apps.
Ran sysprep (successful) and rebooted to initiate an image capture. Selected the volume, selected the WDS server, and storage group. Ran Net Use to map a network drive to copy the image file to. Capture started and gets to 28% and then stalls. Left it overnight
and still at 28%. Tried it twice with the same results.

What's going on here? Where should I look to find info on what the cause might be?

Thanx

I'm attempting to follow this guide to capture a Windows 7 image:

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/windows-7/Deploying-Windows-7-Part10.html

I have a test PC with Windows 7 installed on it waiting to be captured.

I've installed the MDT 2013 Update 2 and Windows ADK for Windows 10 to my technician PC.  Unlike this guide, however, I have no tree under 'Deployment Shares'.  So I have no option to import an OS.

This seems to be a stumbling block to actually capture an image.  Is there something I'm missing?  Is there something that needs to be configured that I don't know about?  I'm still learning this whole process so it's entirely possible there's
something glaringly obvious I don't see.

Hi
I am having trouble with Lab 4 for the 70-680. I have run sysprep on my Win 7 machine and created a WinPE boot disk but I can't boot WinPE boot image. I think it's 4.3 under Create WinPE Boot Image in the lab where you have to boot the image you created. I can't burn the image to a CD - I think I may have done an error before I did the sysprep where it shuts down your machine. I think I didn't point it to the hard disk in command prompt - I followed all the commands in the Labs word for word.
If anyone can help then I would greatly appreciate it.

Since the most recent update of the Sprout Workspace I have been unable to capture any images or use the document capture. I was able to roll back the updates two days ago and the system worked fine. When I started the computer the next day the update went in again automatically and now rolling back to the old Workspace is no longer an option when I look at the recovery points.  When I try to capture an image I get the following error message: "Request to capture Moment failed with new HPPC_RESULT value as [1.0.d.a0088888] (HPPC_ERROR_EMPTY) If I hit OK and close Sprout and then wait a little the light above flashes the way it should to take an image about 30 seconds to a minute after I tried to actually get an image leading me to believe there is some kind of excessive delay in image capture which is the reason there is no moment captured when the system is looking for it. I believe you have a big problem with your most recent update that is causing. I use this Sprout computer with my students and I need the capability to scan with this ASAP. Right not it is just another computer rather than the all in one device it was bought to be, and that is disappointing.

The Imaging plug-in for HP Thin Clients can only be used to deploy images and has no capture facilities. You can however, capture a custom image using HP Device Manager or ThinState, and then deploy that image using the SCCM plug-in.

I have passed all the steps of the image capture wizard of the WDS Server 2008 R2...
In the middle of the process of the uploading the image captured it tells me "There is not enough space on the disk".
I canceled the process and I can see the xyz.wim file created in the local machine, but no in the WDS server (E:\RemoteInstall).
Obviously I have sufficient space on both, local machine where I am capturing the image and on the WDS server.
Also, both disk drives are NTFS without quota allocation.
Anyone has an idea of how to solve it¿?
I have read some information in Internet, but with no succesful.
Thanks in advanced.

You have to create an small (10GB) partition in the client machine, and then in the wizard you need to specify that you want to create the .wim there.

When trying to boot the computer, one receives the following error after the Windows XP splash screen:

"The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\DNsapI.dll is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette.".

The computer never boots up.

I would really appreciate help with this issue.

I hope it does not require the Windows XP disc, since they can not find it.

Hello All,

I receive the following Error Message every time any program starts to run.

{Title of Program}.exe - Bad Image

"Application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\onruqc.dll is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

This message can be clicked away and does not interfere with the running of the program. Aside from being annoying, it doesn't seem to be crashing or slowing my PC down.

I ran a registry cleaner, which did nothing. I also checked with Microsoft, just in case it is a real .dll that's needed for XP. No luck. I have had Malwarebytes and Antispyware on my PC for some time, and I've run them both. Neither of them registers any problems. I cannot locate the onruqc.dll file in my registry, so I think it might be malware of some kind.

Hi,

I've been dealing with a problem on my Dell laptop for some time now that has finally reached a point where I can't get around it anymore because it's now keeping me from installing a program.

Some background:
My hard drive (but was able to recover all files) went out on my computer, so I had to purchase a new one. When I was loading all files onto my new computer and before I installed my antivirus and firewall program (stupid decision, by the way), I managed to get some spyware (I don't know that much about computers) from somewhere, likely a shareware program or something.

Anyway, I didn't notice it until some time later when I would start up a program and Internet Explorer would pop up, etc. To make a long story short, I went Rambo on my computer and managed to kill the spyware (or whatever it was) with a billion different programs.

Right after that, I started getting this error:

The application or DLL C:\Windows\system32\jkifd.dll is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I get this error when I open up some programs (Winamp, for example) but not all of them (Microsoft Word). I think it may have something to do with when I installed the program. Office was one of the first programs I put on my computer but Winamp may have come after the virus/spyware/malware infected my computer. I recently bought a new Microsoft keyboard and anytime I use on of the keyboard shortcut buttons I get a type32.exe - bad image... Read more

Many years ago I had a webcam and bought software that allowed me to automatically capture an image every so often and upload it to a website. Now I have Microsoft Studio webcam and it does not come with any software that I can set up to automatically capture images and upload them to the website.

I know there is software out there that can do this and I have been searching the Internet to find it. So far I have had to restore my system three times. It seems that the software I find comes with a bunch of crap software that even if you tell it NOT to install, the crap software gets installed too. I figure that any software that comes with crap is crap by association; I don't even bother looking at the webcam software, I go straight to restore and get rid of everything.

I am hoping that someone here can provide me with a link to good webcam software. I might even consider buying another webcam if it came with the software.

A:Need webcam software to capture image and post to website

You can use reputable software like virtualdub (Welcome to virtualdub.org! - virtualdub.org), vlc (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/) or even ffmpeg (FFmpeg) to capture snapshots from your webcam. This can be done via command line.

For VLC, the command line should look like :

Code:
vlc --dshow-vdev="Monitor Webcam" --dshow-size=640x480 -V dummy --intf=dummy --dummy-quiet --video-filter=scene --no-audio --scene-path=D:\temp --scene-format=jpeg --scene-prefix=snap --scene-replace --run-time=1 --scene-ratio=24 "dshow://" vlc://quit

This captures 1 second and saves it as jpg images on D:\temp
More help on command line options : http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help

For Virtualdub (much easier) :

Code:
vdub /capture /capdevice Monitor Webcam /capfile D:\temp\video.avi /capstart 2s /x

Same as above but saves it as an avi video file.

For ffpmeg :

Code:
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Monitor Webcam" -c copy raw.avi \-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -t 1 -crf 25 D:\temp\video.mp4

This saves as a mp4 video file (h264 format)

Code:
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Monitor Webcam" -t 1 ?r 25 D:\temp\image%d.jpg

This saves as jpeg images.
More info here : http://sonnati.wordpress.com/2011/08...ing-?-part-ii/

Replace Monitor Webcam with the correct name for your webcam as seen by direct show. This can be done via ffmpeg too :

Code:

I did a search thru Google and found this

http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/dnsapi/

From what I have been reading the general thing suggested is to do a repair-installation of Windows this is a non-destructive re-installation and should not damage your data, but being Windows I would suggest backing up your important data to another media like CD-R's, DVD or Thumb drive. You best way of doing this would be to install the hard drive into another desktop as a slave drive and manually backup the data from there.

When this is done re-install the drive back into the original desktop as a master on the primary cable and then do the repair-install.. Please print the article for reference

Hello,

I turned on my Dell Latitude D620 this morning and it went to blue screen and stated it had to check the disks. That went through and started up only to have this pop-up "Services.exe - Bad Image" "The application or DLL C:\Windows\system32\MSVCP60.dll is not a valid image. Please check this against your installation diskette." and all there is is a black screen. I left it alone for a while and the blue Windows login screen appeared and I typed the password only to get another little popup which had a timer on it so I could not get everything down, but I think I got the important stuff, "services.exe terminated expectantly status code 1073741792" and it shuts down only to restart to the black screen again. I have AVG and SUPERAntiSpyware on it, so what is this and how can a novice like me fix it?

Thank You For Your Time!

A:cannot open jpeg invalid image -_-

Sounds like the images are corrupt - this can happen if the storage media they are on is faulty or starting to fail, or (in the case of a memory card) you've been deleting all the images on it instead of re-formatting it every few weeks to keep it healthy. There is some helpful information here: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/repair-and-view-corrupted-or-damaged-images/

hello, not sure what i got infected with, but anytime i run any exe. file i get a error message pop up saying that its not a valid windows image file, i get a ton pop up every time i start my computer and after its started, anytime i run anything not already started up. everything works fine after i click ok on the error message, and i have installed and scanned my computer with mcafee, spyhunter 3, spybot search & destroy, malwarebytes and windows defender, all say i am clean besides the occasional bad cookie. i tried doing a clean boot but for some reason the windows startup disk i have apparently isn't the right one. only one that i have, only one i've ever had so i'm not sure how its the wrong disk. system restore also doesn't work. i've tried to restore to multiple saved points and every time i restart it just says it could not do a system restore. i am losing my mind, and really hoping i don't have to wipe my laptop clean and start over. any help would be greatly appreciated.

My friend is recently discovered that she is no longer able to print pictures from Windows Image Gallery. When she selects the option to print, the printer says it is printing, but there is nothing in the print queue and nothing actually prints. We must turn the printer off and on again to reset it. She can print from other programs and I was able to print a test page. I created a test user account and was able to print photos just fine from there. Haven't had a chance to try Microsoft FixIt yet, but I will be giving that a try. I also have not yet tried reinstalling the printer yet. This issue seems to be specific to her primary user account. The printer is an HP Photosmart. The OS is Vista. Any suggestions?

A:Unable to print photos from Windows Image Gallery

Did she by any chance disconnect the printer and plug it into a different USB port? This is quite often the cause of this problem. The easiest thing to do would be to delete the printer and then add it again.

I have the Firewire 400 to mini Firewire cable but my video capture program doesn't recognize the connection.

The Firewire card works, I'm able to connect an external hard drive with no problems.

And yes, I have applied the Windows XP firewire patch.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I need to do some video editing and I don't want to have to shell out the $$$$ for a Mac.

It's possible that because the hard drive was failing, your profile was corrupted and restoring the image still resulted in a corrupted profile. Try the following.

If you gf's account is admin then log into her account and change/clear the password of your account in "User Accounts" of control panel.

Hello to all,
I have just noted while trying to bring W8 up to speed, that Windows Photo Viewer can not display .NEF or .CR2 RAW image files. I have associated all the image file extensions with the Windows Photo Viewer and do not use the App Version. I don't recall but tried to begin the process of finding "codecs" that allow it to show the files, which they do very well in W7 Photo Viewer. Does anyone have experience with this or ideas. I found Nikon's specific Windows 7 codecs program and it would not install. Thanks for any assistance!

Please Help!!!

I am using Corel VideoStudio 12 and have a Canon Hv10 camcorder. I have used both the camera and the software successfully in the past. I am currently trying to capture some footage from my Canon HV10 to Corel, but the software keeps popping up the following message "Unable to switch to capture mode. Check if your video capture drive is working properly. [15023:4:2]"

I have been told by someone that it is perhaps because my camera settings for output and my software settings are no longer the same (which would explain why it worked before but not now). I have no idea if this person even knows what they're talking about, and I have no idea what settings would need to be changed (either on the camera or the software) and how to change them if that is even the case.

Please help.

I purchased this PC in July 2011 and it is out of warranty.  After months of being badgered to upgrade to Windows 10 I decided to do so but rather than upgrading I did a clean install since the laptop was working poorly.  I read on Microsoft's site that one could do this as long as they have the Windows Product Key for Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 which was already installed on the machine.  I wrote that down along with the Windows ID (different number).   I upgraded by downloading Windows 10 to a thumb drive and then installing.  Seemed to work fine (I believe I entered my Product ID in the process).  Now, several weeks later I"m getting a message that I need to "activate windows."  I called MIcrosoft after it failed to activate using the IDs I have and after 30 minutes on the phone they told me that both my Windows Product ID and my Windows Product Key are "invalid."  I'd like to call HP and get this sorted out - I have the original order number and Microsoft said that is all I would need for HP to help me - but I'm out of warranty and they apparently won't help me unless I pay them $60.  Another alternative is to buy a new copy of Windows 10 and pay MIcrosoft some money.   I'm outraged because I'm simply trying to do what Microsoft has been badgering me to do.   BTW, the PC seems to work fine other than the message to activate windows.  I guess another option is to do nothing. Any sugg... Windows Credentials. Windows 7 will include a system for managing the online IDs, logons, and passwords that you must manage for all of the Web sites you visit. Dubbed Windows Credentials, this feature utilizes a KeyRing for storing online credentials and a Credential Manager user interface. These settings can be backed up to and restored from a secure online vault.

The only thing I found close to what you are asking is this:

User Account Control (UAC) - Change Prompt Behavior for Standard Users

But unfortunately that is not going to help you. I could not find a way to do it when searching, but I feel group policy might have a setting on this. Most options I see only deal with the way the prompt is presented, and not about modifying the prompt.

This is a full in depth overview of uac:

I recently tried to copy spreadsheet data from a website (a comparison of Car Video cameras) to an Excel 2013 workbook page.
When I pasted the copied data to Excel I got a pop up box asking for my Windows Credentials, and even though I typed in the correct details it would not accept them. I then found out that my Windows Credential Manager was not working. Opening up my Action Centre does not indicate any problems - it also does not state that Credential Manager is not working. Device Manager shows that all devices are working.

I got the following errors messages;
attempt 1 - Credential Manager Error - 0x80070425 The service cannot accept control messages at this time.

attempt 2 - Credential Manager Error - 0x80070425 - an error occurred while performing this action - opening credential manager.

I have searched Microsoft Community "Issue with the Credential Manager." but this has not helped.
All my programs are up to date and multiple virus scans have not shown up any problems either.

Can anyone help get my Credential Manager to start ?

I'm having a bad day, I have to do homework but I'm constantly annoyed with random spurts of high data traffic in and out from my PC as well as Comodo firewall being shut off randomly or being unusable. So I did a bit of digging and I found a credential that raises a red flag: virtualapp/didlogical. I'm not to savvy with my security but some aspects of my computing are mission-critical, and I have been attacked before..

I found quite a bit of talk online about this, but its non-conclusive. The common theme is that it is an exploit to steal information (commonly Paypal), redirect websites, possibly establish a direct connection, and hijack windows update. The official purpose of the program was regarded as a mistake by MS in Windows 7 related to Live services.

I should also note that NO WEBSITE that I visit has a valid certificate.. Computer frequently hangs on startup to the point where I have to power off and reboot, and then it sometimes starts without AVG and Comodo firewall or they start late.

I'm on the brink of nuking the computer and using live CDs.. please help!

Windows 8, AVG, Comodo FW, Secunia PSI (can't open it, but it is green in the taskbar), WinPatrol, Zemana AntiKeylogger. AMD A8 64, 4gb ram, handicapped down-syndrome schizo at times.

Hi,

I am also facing a similiar issue, like given in the thread - Cannot delete shortcut file

I cant deleted some invalid paths and shortcuts in the system....
Here when I open any application and try to insert or open a file for that application, I am facing the problem.

For Example,
In VLC Player, I click on Media --> Open File

This gives you the Box to select the file you want and in the bottom of that small window in the " File name " box, you will be having a drop down box to select the file.
Here all the deleted files are listed with the file name and path, which was deleted months ago...
When you select the file it says, "Path does not exist, try again"
So, I think all the invalid shortcuts are stored some where in the system, which displays there.
So we need to deleted that particular cache.
I found out that there is something called " Indexed Cache " in Vista, which saves all the shortcuts as the files are stored.
I need to find out how to delete the file shortcuts from that location.
Please help.

Similiar issue is there in Outlook 2007, when I compose a new message and insert file.
It gives the drop down box like the above issue with all the deleted files path.

I tried rebuilding the Indexing Options as advised before.
It didnt work.
I performed all the basic steps, like deleting cookies, temp files from system, ran chkdsk, disk cleanup, and also used some popular and unpopular cleaning software and nothing worked.

-delete entry from credential manager

-net use * /del (result "there are no entries in the list")

-net use \\servername /del (result "the network connection could not be found")

-net use /persistent:no

None of these steps have done anything to resolve this issue. Please advise another solution to clear the mysteriously cached credentials.....

As administrator of a workgroup of two dozen win 7 pro machines I access some network share during system installation/configuration/setup, e.g. \\system\folder, authenticating on that server, which works fine.
When new person starts using machine, that network share \\system\folder does not ask for authentication - I suppose because it has cached credentials.
I would like for that network share (and all network shares) ask for authentication.
I've tried asking this another way and gotten several partial answers, so I'm trying again, hopefully in clearer way!
None of this has worked to attempt to clear credentials.

Kinda surprised I didn't see anything here about it but why does Windows bug me for my current credentials?

I get this popup window occasionally that says Windows really really really (jk) needs your current credentials. Lock your machine and then unlock it.

I know how to do it and what to do but why?
What's the point?
What is Windoze really up to here?

Have you changed your password recently, or do you have a mapped drive to another machine that has a different password than your normal user? That's usually when I've seen this happen.
