Nothing worked...

Hello there.I am very new to MDT 2010, so please take it easy.I was running the RC and managed to successfully build a test Win7 image from a Reference machine. I did this by deploying the standard Enterprise image, but rather than 'capture' it straight after, I did some test tweeking to the image, as this is what our company requires. Once happy, from the reference machine, I opened up the "litetouch.vbs" script from the DeploymentShare$\Scripts and invoked a 'sysprep and capture' task I had previous created. This ran perfectly, created my custom OS back to the server and I was then able to deploy it to my test target.OK - so I was quite excited by all this - so far, so good.Yesterday, I installed the new 'final release' of MDT 2010 and I spent some more time on my reference machine, making sure it was 'perfect' as a base release.Once happy, I browsed back the DeploymentShare$ to run "litetouch.vbs" and although the wizard does start, allowing me to choose a Task Sequence and take me through credentials - at the end of the wizard, it just ends - no job is started.Sometimes when I run the .vbs, I get a 'wizard error' popup ...  "A connection to the deployment share () could not be made. The deployment will not proceed".Things I have done: rebooted both client and server. Recreated the 'sysprep and capture' job. Updated the MDT.Can anyone help?

A:a connection to the deployment share could not be made.

I hit this problem yesterday with two Dell PCs. I use MDT 2010.
The error message was totally off...
The problem in BOTH cases was caused by bad local hard drives. Diskpart's "clean" fixed the problem.

Issue is only in a single site laptops in which Imaging worked perfectly until last week.i have found only below errors in BDD.log and setupact.log<o:p></o:p>

i have gone through some solution in msforum link below which says to add sleep time in litetouch.wsf file but unfortunately i cannot test that script changesin my environment

Is issue really from DHCP or MDT 2013 bug ? if its MDT bug then the above sleep time update will really work .Seeking your help to understand and to isolate this issue better.<o:p></o:p>

We have a very strange phenomenon happening that we have never seen. Here's the background. Our computers are deployed with MDT and WDS, we apply any windows updates, they're on the domain, and we log them into the account used on that computer.
When they're logged in for the first time, we have a script that runs that adds shortcuts, network drives, wlan profiles, favorites, etc. We have had numerous netbooks that have been configured, used for a while, had more updates, and programs installed,
and then one day, everything disappears. They come up with a bad trust relationship, and it's as if the user profile for the domain account was never logged in or configured. There's no updates, programs, settings, nothing, it's as if the computers are back
to the state they are in after you click finish after deploying with MDT. There's no record (that I can find) of any sort of system restore. The only thing that's there that wouldn't be right after deployment are the event logs, and maybe some folders in appdata
for programs that were added after deployment. Anybody ever see anything like this?

I have MDT 2010 setup and am in the process of setting up a 2nd share, I created the share with no issues, and created the "link" without issues as weel. I am now trying to get the linked share to replicate, and am getting an error that the "everything" profile is not valid, when it does exist on the new share. I even tried creating a new profile and setting it to that one, still get the exact same error. Has anyone else seen this?

A:MDT 2010 linked deployment share issue

Figured it out, if this ever happens to you, delete and re-create the 2nd share (the one you want to replicate too) then re-create the link and update. Something must have gotten corrupted.

I downloaded PowerPivot for Office 2010 and installed it manually to one computer with no problems. Now I try to deploy this MSI package to few similar workstations with GP but this fails. I can see from logs that installation has started but failed. I suspect
that this has something to do with UAC on Windows7 clients.
I can start the MSI manually with command prompt from same network location that my GPO starts it but the UAC prompts me to accept changes rightaway. So is the a option to disable or say yes to user prompt automatically?? Thanks!

A:UAC and MSI deployment?

You can try to disable UAC on Windows 7:
1. Access User Control Panel from Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Account
2. Click on

User Account Control settings link.

3. Move the Slider to Never Notify
4. Click OK to make the change effective
5. Reboot.
Hope that helps.

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question. Is there anyway I can specify a serial number when deploying a package via GPO? Its getting a bit tedious deploying the software then having to input the serial number 60 times :S

A:GPO deployment

Use a program like nLite to create an installation package to which you can incorporate the Serial Number and any number of tweaks. This works pretty much the same way as a Sysprep install.

I have installed a Windows 7 Enterprise reference image. I have added a Windows 7 boot image on my WDS server and created a capture image, I have added the Ethernet and the storage driver to the boot image. When I PXE boot the refernce computer with the
capture image the WINPE is not loading, the green bar runs from side to side for a sec. and then black screen, I have tried to leave the computer for some hours but still black screen.
Any idears?

A:Windows 7 WDS deployment

I consider this issue can be caused if the driver you added into boot image fail to install.

Please try the suggestions in this article:

I wonder if you can help me with deploying Windows 10, I have a few questions;

Can I deploy W10 like I currently do via WDS 2008?

What software can I use to create a customized W10 DVD that allows me to alter/disable some of the standard initial setup questions?

We pay for an OVS agreement, should I be able to get a copy of Windows 10 from the VLSC? I cant seem to find a Windows 10 ISO, just 7 & 8?

We're doing a quick POC for ATA. The first stage - where a couple of DCs had the ATA Lightweight Gateway deployed - was promising, and we'd like to extend the scope to further DCs. However, since some of our DCs are running Windows Server 2008 R2, this presents
a problem since .NET Framework 4.6.X requires a reboot. To add to the problem the ATA client itself requires another reboot. We also want to avoid doing a manual install on each DC - which would mean automatic deployment, maybe as simple as a GPO (with the
.exe first packaged as a .msi - an older thread about it
here) or invoking psexec with an include file to specify the list of remote machines. Looking at the silent installation instructions the
setup can pause automatically and not initiate the reboot of the machine - allowing a degree of control and preventing critical systems going down at an inappropriate time.
In the referenced article above it's stated that "When using the -NoRestart flag and restart will be required as part of the installation, the installer will pause until the server is restarted", which hints that there's no way for avoiding the
2-restarts issue. But just to be sure - has anyone found a workaround for deploying this in one go ? Eg deploy .NET Framework followed immediately by the ATA client.
Also - I was just thinking above of some ways to deploy the client automatically, but probably they might not be the best pick or someone went already through this proces... Read more

Hi All,

Here is our situation.

We have a little over 100 users all of whom have a corporate signature. However these signatures are images so each individual user has a different image containing their name and contact details. Is there any way that we can deploy all of these signatures to the relevant users automatically rather than having to go round and install them on each individual PC.

We use Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory, but if there are any other tools that can help us do this then any information would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

A:Deployment of Signatures

It would be hard to deploy the image to every user in that manner since the file names would be different. I am sure you could use some sort of environment variable to grab it from their user profile or some other shared location and integrate it into the script found here:

Hey all,

A couple years ago, I began a help desk job where no imaging was being used. Someone had been manually setting up as many as 20 machines a month. I quickly figured out some half-assed ways to image which I don't think will work in Windows 7 so I was coming to ask to be pointed in the right direction.

Current method:
-Setup a machine the way I want
-Take Image with Acronis off of a BartPE disc
-Run NewSID before joining to the domain
-Join to domain and setup user account

I read that NewSID was nothing more than a tool for breaking things Vista and later. Is sysprep where I need to be headed or is that for people not using an imaging tool?

I'm always looking for help and great forums - I hope to find both here!

I have gone over many posts and have gotten to this point with imaging the M900 with windows 7 ENT.I first had an issue with PXE boot and found I needed the specific drivers for Win8.1 to inject in the boot image i'm using.  That worked great.  I then proceeded to image my M900...then things went downhill....I got to the Windows login screen but no keyboard or mouse would work.  I tried to inject the USB 3.0 controller into the boot image and that didn't work.  I did make a driver package from the SCCM package from Lenovo and that gets installed after windows as a task sequence, but still no USB so i cannot do anything with it once it's done.Has anyone successfully used configmgr 2012 SP1 and imaged the Lenovo M900?I bet it's something small i'm missing but i'm sort of running out of time. I would be very thankful for some assistance.

what i suggest is going to get Ad-Aware SE and also get SpyBot - S&D. open the installers, update as nessessary and let them run i suggest running Ad-Aware first then SpyBot [i suggest this because after Spybot finishes finding the bad files and you select which ones to fix it will set a system restore point. so... thus meaning if you run spybot first it will set a system restore point and then you run ad-aware and clean thos files out. well next time you restore your system to that date you have all of that spyware that you have to clean yet again. ~_^] you already have HJT which is good.

also a good thing to do. is the generic method. go in thru control panel and uninstall those programs.

i also suggest two other programs that are really well designed and user friendly.

Finalizing XP deployment

I am looking to simplifying the deployment of my company?s standard build. Iv tested a few different methods and found one that is close to working perfectly.

So far I have been able to build a WinPE CD, boot into it then apply an image that I have stored on another local drive. This works with the only problem being two different media.
Iv been trying to add the standard image to the WinPE CD but that makes the CD over 2GB - so needing a DVD.
Iv added the file during the WinPE CD build but the software cant handle a CD being over 700MB.
Iv used ImgBurn to add the image to the ISO of WinPE. This will burn, eventually, but when booting I get 'CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD : Code 5'
When I try burn the complete ISO under Nero it runs to part way through then stays at that percentage forever (Different values each time, left over the weekend and still no change or error)
Iv played about with a couple different boot files - Neros standard ones, microsoft_corparation.img, ImgBurn standards and the original boot file from the WinPE CD. None have been able to complete the boot - different problems each time - each message just telling me that it cant boot, not much of a reason.

Can anyone help with their experience or give advice for a better deployment method?

Any thoughts on the best and/or simplest way to deploy applications to workstations which are not members of our Domain? What apps are available that will allow me to, for example, create an installation package for an appilication complete with all the configuration options I'd like and then place that package somewhere on a server or even burn it on a CD so that launching the package would be the only task required to install/configure the app. Also, what's available that would allow me to remotely place the install package (or any file for that matter) on the desktop (or start menu)of a large number of non-domain workstations based on the IP address of the workstation. Thanks for any pointers...

Hi everyone,
i know the internet is full of guides and tutorials but i haven't got what i'm looking for.
My situation is as follows:
Our corporation buys oem licensed windows 7 computers from our suppliers.
we would like to create an image with icd , without overwriting the product keys (since we don't buy volume keys, paying 2 times seems a little stupid aswell). We would like the icd image to join the domain under a variable name (something like desktop01
- desktop02 etc ...).Also it should be able to enable the built in local administrator and disable any other local user besides domain users.

within this icd image i would like to add other applications aswell (symantec antivirus, citrix, adobe reader, office365, etc...).
Is this possible ? if so could anyone guide me to a fairly easy guide where i can do all this stuff?

Hi all
I am new to VB and need some help....i dont know if these questions are silly. But they are really eating my brains right now

1) I need help on VB6 "packaging and deployment wizard".
I am able to package the product and even deploy it.
I need to know how to include a end user license agreement file (EULA)
before the installation .
If the user does not accept the conditions and clicks the exit button, it should quit the installation.
Is there any tutorial online which explains the programming part of setup1.exe? I tried to search MSDN online and i went crazy
2) Can somebody tell me how to refresh the VB data reports screen.
3) can i make the trial version of the product expire in 30 days.(even when system date is changed by user)

any help is truely appreciated.

A:VB6 packaging and deployment wizard

well im assuming since you say your new to VB, you'd be incapable of creating your own trial period coding, or adapting your own installation rules. If you are incapable of that, it is a tad tricky, then i suggest you use teh internet to aid your cause.

You can download free programs that give you teh ability to create your own installations for any files. unfortunatly the one i have used in the past i have completly forgotten sorry.. but its out there, with it you can have activation codes, agreement notes, im not entirely sure about trial periods but mebbeh.. Th only thing they get back is a small advertisment that users will see at teh end of installation, nothing too bothersome.

Hope that moderatly helps

I came back from a 6 month deployment expecting to unwind a bit with some games on my budget gaming rig, so i bought the gold pack of starwars empire at war and installed it hoping to play with a friend who just recently bought it as well. they both installed fine, but once i fired up empire at war, a wierd screen flicker was happening and though my system was more than capable of running it at max settings. adding to that, it would only go to bare minimum settings on auto detect. I changed it manually, and though the flickering was gone, the mouse cursor disappeared. After a few resets, i got it to run fine with single player, however once i go into multiplayer mode the whole thing freezes, and since then I've tried playing forces of corruption, which wont run at all, and neither will any of my steam games. Might this be a driver issue? or will this just constitute a format and reinstall of windows 7?

I have ata gateways paired with each of our physical domain controllers.  However our vmware folks are balking at doing the port mirroring for our virtual dcs.  (I  know, but I've lost that argument.)
Does a partial deployment still have merit?  Or will this mean that we'll essentially never catch malicious behavior?  I would think it would still have some merit, but have a large blind spot.
Would including event forwarding from the virtual dcs to one of the existing gateways make sense?  Or would that just confuse things?

Hey all,

I've now got the need to upgrade all workstations from Office 2007 to Office 2010.

I've read through TechNet posts and see that i can edit the config.xml file, but i'm not too good with editing stuff from scratch, i'm easier to make use of a template and change the variables.

Can anybody guide me in the right path?

Ideally, someone could have a HTML page where you enter all the details and it provides a config.xml file at the end - anybody know of something similiar?

Thanks guys!

Users of a Access db distributed with the Package Wizard are getting the
error "Can't assign a value to this object" when I try to set a value
through code. The value is a simple calculation. (A= B/C). I can't figure
out the problem mainly because I can't duplicate the error in the
development version. Even if I start it up with the /runtime the error
doesn't occur, the code works. Why does this error occur or how can I track it down if I
can't duplicate it in my system?

It could be the error message has to do with their version of Access, have they got the full version or just runtime?

Hi ,

I need to automate the deployment of a .Net application keeping the following factors in mind:

- The process involves operations like copying folders ( from build machine to deployment m/c) , copying files, modifying config files etc.

- The deployment must start automatically after a successful build.

- The Build is done using Visual Build pro.

Any starting points on how I can do it.

First, whats the difference between WDS and MDT?

Second, do I have to have a Windows 2003 Server or can I set this up on a network with nothing but XP PRO machines?

Finally, If we buy 30 dell computers with xp pro already installed is it neccesary to even use WDS?

Just some background, we are trying to set up a network where some users are restricted from doing certain tasks on their computers and over the network while others have admin rights. I'm not sure if I have to start from scratch or just network the computers and then implement AD for group polices, etc.

Now that ATA is GA, will you release updated deployment documentation and system requirements? The preview only supported 1 center, 4 gateways and 10 DCs - how is this now for the full release? The documentation on is still for the preview

Any more info on the disk space requirements for the central's mongoDB (e.g. per DC based on how busy it is)? Will the disk usage just grow and grow, or will old and not important data be dropped?

Does it support more than one domain/forest now?

Hello,  Can someone pls clarify what is the caveat or limitation if we go with

Using only ATA Lightweight Gateways v/s  using both  ATA
Lightweight Gateways and  ATA Gateways ?   Is
it that if we go with only the light gateways then  would we only have visibility on all the usual events getting logged on Domain controllers (like the logon/logoff, DNS events) ?  And is it if we go with the 2nd option of both (lightweight gateway
+ gateway) then then this will give us more visibility into the overall network and not just limited to events on Domain controllers ?   The reason i am asking is if we go with the later option of having both, then the mirror port which gets connected
to Gateway server (whatever we configure on our switch) will be capturing all the traffic flowing through all the servers (not just to DC's) so wouldn't we get more visibility into our rest of network as well ?

Am i misunderstanding this ?  Appreciate any help .

I would really appreciate help with the below query.

What I have:
I've created a custom deployment for W10 using WICD and placed it on a USB Pen Drive.
It is for internal purposes and it works very well for what it is intended.

Looking to:
What I really want however is for it to be self included in the drive in which it will be installed, but I am not sure how possible that is. (Dell, HP, etc do something like this on their new machines, don't they?)

In short. I am looking to place this deployment image onto, perhaps a bootable partition on a SSD.
The hope is that it would boot up, begin the instalation process and install itself on the remaining (empty) partition without wiping itself out.

Currently the USB Pen Drive deployment image boots any drive, begins the instalation and as part of such, wipes the entire drive. The install data is never lost because it is handled by the USB Pen Drive.

How can I:
1. Generate a RAW partition (perhaps hidden)
2. Write protect it (keep it from wiping)
3. Edit the instalation method of the W10 deployment (specify not to auto wipe all by default)
4. Allow all to be clone-able

I looked around for this information but did not find specifics. I'd gladly read if needed, so even good links will be appreciated.

Big Thanks.

I have a situation that the solution has been escaping me.  I have sysprep successfully a machine, create a WIM image and manage to redeploy it to 4 out of 6 machine successfully.  The last 2 however, prompted me with an error during the deployment.
Reviewing the setuperr.log file, the error is
2016-07-26 15:12:45, Error      [0x0f0082] SYSPRP LaunchDll:Failure occurred while executing 'C:\Windows\system32\capisp.dll,CryptoSysPrep_Specialize', returned error code 1627[gle=0x000003e5]

I looked online around the capisp.dll and I found a possibility of where the 2 machine had a different device configuration and the recommendation was to change my
PersistAllDeviceInstalls in my unattend.xml to false and have it rediscover the devices.  I did that but still the same outcome.
I have run out of ideas and I need help to move forward.  Please help.

During my Windows 7 MDT deployments, I have unattend.xml run a first login command that adds extra input languages to Windows from a local XML file. The command is:
control.exe intl.cpl,, /f:"C:\Scripts\lang.xml"
This works when run interactively, but doing so in the oobesystem pass of the unattend.xml copies them over to the default user profile. In the original version of MDT 2013, this wasn't an issue. It worked fine. Now, I'm using MDT 2013 Update 2, and it doesn't
work. The unattend.xml file validates fine and does not produce any errors. The lang.xml file is in the specified directory, but that directory is hidden. I don't think that is the issue because the command works when run interactively.
Setupact.log does not show any errors around the step the command is run. It just doesn't happen.

What else could I be missing?

Hi have a query

i want to dpely windows 7 across around 10 PC's but minimise user downtime, as such i intend to install manually using retail versions of the software then update to the specifications i need. all the final workstations will need to be the same.

i have 3 pc's to roll out, then i will drag 3 in, upgrade, redeploy and so on, thus meaning that noone will loose much productivity to downtime.

whats killing me is that after install, which takes around 30 mins including office and other bits of software, the patching and updating of windows on each machine to latest KB updates is taking forever!! so with say 10-15 new pcs all trying to install updates within few hours its going to slow the network to a stop.

is there anyway i can take one of the pc's i have finished, image the updates and software installs then patch them all onto a new clean install of retail windows 7????

i have looked at all sorts of networkable options such as microsoft system essentials or symantec ghost, but none will allow a stand alone image creation off network that i can tell

thanks in advance for any advice

I have a question about deploying windows (multicasting) over a network that I’m hoping someone with the expertise will be able to offer a little advice on...

I work for a small PC manufacturer in the UK, and at the moment we are installing windows on to the machines using a USB3 hard drive with disk imaging software (Acronis). Our company is currently expanding and has just become a Microsoft partner, so my employer has asked me to look into setting up an image server and deploying windows over a network connection.

What I’d like to know is: what kind of infrastructure would I need to put in place to execute this task effectively?

My work place is relatively small. The install bench only has 8 bays - so for the moment this will be the maximum number of PC’s that will need to receive the broadcast. In time, I expect we will have to relocate into larger premises, so the solution has to be scalable. Time is also a huge factor at the moment. I would like the network to be as fast as possible, whilst still being economical with costs.

From what I understand, the server would have to have quite a lot of processing power; a lot of memory; fast hard drive access, and a fast ethernet connection. I was thinking something along the lines of an i7 2600k overclocked to 4.5Ghz / 16GB 1600mhz memory / Multiple SSD’s in raid 5 or 10 array, and a gigabit network card. How does that spec sound for the task? A networking switch would also be required. Do you have any recommendat... Read more

A:Windows deployment over a network

Having set up a Ghost type environment, you'll need to do a few things. First, you need to have your PC's PXE enabled. PXE support is going to be relevant to the NICs you are using. If you don't have PXE ability with the NICs you use with your PCs, then everything else is a no go. Next, you need a DHCP server and you need to set one of the DHCP boot parameters, I think it is type 60 (can't remember at the moment), to point the PXE client to the boot image server on your network. The boot image server is responsible for providing a small boot strap to allow the PC to come up with an OS. The boot image server also provides extra parameters to do a network map to the image server to load the actual image onto the PC. The last component is the image server which holds the image itself and pushes it to the client. All of these components can be a single box.

Depending on your network design and where you place the image server in relation to where you image your boxes, you might have to invoke a relay agent to forward DHCP requests to the DHCP server through a routed hop.

As far as hardware, the biggest impact on image performance is hard drive subsystem on the image server and the network itself.

I have a licensing question regarding the deployement of Windows 7.

We are currently purchasing notebooks that have an OEM key for Windows 7 Pro and have been configuring each by hand which can get really annoying. I want to create an image of Windows 7 and use it for deployement however I'm not too sure about the licensing involved.

First off, you cannot image an OEM version and you need an open license version, correct?

Do I need to purchase a VLK license for each notebook that I want to image to? Or can I just purchase 1 open license and image that to multiple computers since the OEM key is in fact for Windows 7 Professional?

A:Image Deployment of Windows 7

I believe you're going to need to look into VLK if you're intending on using the same key & installation across multiple machines. You "may" be able to get away with buying one 7Pro and then inserting the individual OEM key that is on the individual laptop stickers, however I'm not sure on that one so don't quote me there. I'm sure someone else here does know this answer though so sit tight, some one else will surely be able to answer this.

Aside from the licensing issues, once you get the version of Windows that you'll be installing legally with a licensed key, you should look into windows sysprep. It will cut your distribution time down incredibly using this method rather than setting up each machine individually from scratch.

Being in charge for the software deployment of our pc/notebooks in a rapidly changing corporate environment, there are two things I'd like to know:

- Do you know software that can create and ajust a "software/user/machine-inventory" in seconds? Copy/pasting in excel is getting a hassle, when pc's are changing owners like crazy now. We need to have a more clear view at what licenses are in use or not used at all in some cases.
- What paths should I consider, if I start to think of pushing software-upgrades (not windows updates), when the (+/-120) users don't have admin rights. I don't mean licensing but how to create an environment that is able to safely push software from our server to the workstations?

Thanks again for all your help!

Does anyone know the best way to distribute your application?

I tried the packaging and deployment wizard, but it seems to not include some stuff. Also, it makes 2 files (setup.exe & cab file) I was hoping to get just one file if possible.

Can anyone shed some light on this, please.

A:visual basic deployment

The p&d wizard actually creates 3 files, Setup.exe, MyApplication.CAB and Setup.lst all of these are necessary to deploy an application. You can use the Visual Studio installer to create a single .MSI file that works with the standard windows installer service if it is installed on the machine, if not then it is possible to package this with the actual installation package as well though again you may get multiple files required. If you use the standard installer, it is possible to use Winzip self-extractor or a similar program to create a single executable which extracts the necessary files and then runs the setup.exe on completion so that you only have the one file necessary.

As for things that are missing, it all depends on what it is, without knowing this it is difficult to suggest why or how to avoid this problem.

First of all, thank you Tim for the code you replied with. Works perfectly.

The problem I'm having now is that I had to make some path changes to the dirctory path for the Access Database. Unfortunately, when I went to use the Package and deployment wizard again, it gave me a error 80004005 Automation Error Unspecified Error. I tried recreating the app from scratch copying the forms to the new project and reassigning my startup form. When I did that, the package and deployment wizard said that i need an exe for the project and gave me an option to compile. I hit the compile button and the error returned when trying to compile. I have no idea what to do. I have never seen this error before.

Before I tried creating the new project i tried to use the package and deployment wizard to rewrite the exe. It would not do it and returned the same error.

Please Help!!!!

After a great deal of struggling and fighting, i have finally found the error. It was two typos! I ran the app as a Start with Full Compile which will break on every error. I had two typos that killed the compile. Thanks to everyone who took the time to read my post!!!!

We've got upwards of 400 workstations running Windows XP SP2. They also have the Novell Client 4.91 SP4 and network printers are managed through NDPS. Several months ago 20 new printers (IBM Infoprint 1532) were deployed across our LAN. Today I was told that the following changes need to be made by February: 1) In the printer driver properties, Enable the Duplexer 2) Under printing preferences, set Duplexing as the default. I was told that we techs need to physically touch each workstation to implement these changes. I've got a few ideas kicking around but I'd like to hear suggestions on the best way to automate this process to the greatest extent possible or at least be as efficient as possible. Is there a way to modify the printer configuration with an INF file and then deploy it via login script? Thanks in advance for all suggestions!

But in the meantime, try posting your question on Netware specific forums.

Windows does some things while partitioning that I don't like (including seeing 500 MB less on my disc than is there, leaving unused space in the table which was odd to see.) I plan to use a utility on my Slackware installation to rectify that, but once I delete my Windows 7 partition I will have no way to reinstall Windows (as I will lose the MBR data pointing to the WIM installer.) I've been using Windows for about six months, but haven't used Slackware in almost a year and am not ready to dive back into it without a backup OS.

Suffice it to say I don't have media to make installation discs or usb sticks. (Since I know it seems like I'm trying to crack a wallnut with a sledgehammer. Or rather, use a sledgehammer to crack a walnut as use a sledgehammer to... Read more

The simplest way to handle multi-booting with separate HD's is to install/repair with the other HD unplugged, then boot only via the BIOS boot order or one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

If you do this then you don't need to worry about reimaging Win7 HD as it will contain its own boot files and not be interlocked or reliant upon the other HD, or vice versa. Just be sure to unplug the other HD during reinstall, repair or reimaging.

As to how to boot the other HD's multi-boots you can use GRUB for Linux which works better when it is restricted to Linux distros and not imposed on Win7.

Does this sound like a way to simplify what you want to do?

Hi Everyone,
I am at a bit of a lose atm. I've created a deployment in MDT 2013 and I am unable to set the computer name, so that it shows in the properties window in Windows 7. I am also unable to install applications. I am deploying my image from a bootable USB and
have created the media for this in MDT 2013.
I have set the OSDComputerName=KAP-%SerialNumber% in the customsettings.ini and because this wasn't being set I have added it in the task sequence as the very last thing that it is to set (yet to test this part). This computer name is being set in the bios
but isn't reflected in Windows. Also the screen resolutions isn't being set. I've created an application bundle for the 5 applications I wish to install and I've set the 'Install Applications' task in the task sequence to 'Install a single application' and
pointed it to the application bundle. As you can see this task is running in the 'State Restore' area. I have recently disabled all the tasks in the 'Imaging' section at the end, as I feel that this is overwriting everything that has been set. I am yet to
test this new deployment.
I am not entirely sure where I am going wrong and I am on my last nerve with this. The deployment image is something that management is waiting on as we have a number of computers to deploy. The problem with this is that contrary to popular belief it is
not easy to get working. If anyone has any ideas or questions please let me know ASAP. Just for reference, I am in Sydney, A... Read more

Currently looking for imaging software where I can throw an image on the server, and roll it out simultaneously to a bunch of different types of machines, all running XP.

Looked into Acronis TI, but license per machine. Would rather have a site license, not per individual machine. Also do not need incremental backups, just looking for a image deployment solution.

Also, how exactly does mass deployment work with computers of different hardware? All machines are dell, but some are newer than others, and newer ones are constantly coming are any driver issues handled on the base image when rolling out an XP OS?

A:Imaging, mass deployment to xp machines

Each image needs to be unique for the hardware its going on.

As Joe mentioned in this blog post, the amount of interest in the Windows 10 preview has been phenomenal. We appreciate that IT pros are trying out the new features and providing feedback. But more importantly, we appreciate the sheer number of devices that you are upgrading from previous versions of Windows ? whether from Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1. The telemetry from these upgrades enables us to further streamline and improve the upgrade process ? important because this is the primary way we expect organizations to deploy Windows 10.

In my blog post on September 30th, we introduced this idea of having a simpler deployment process, using an in-place upgrade instead of the traditional wipe-and-load approach that organizations have historically used to deploy new Windows versions. This upgrade process is designed to preserve the apps, data, and configuration from the existing Windows installation, taking care to put things back the way they need to be after Windows 10 has been installed on the system.

Of course it?s critical that at the same time we do everything we can to ensure that existing apps ?just work.? We understand the challenges that many organizations experienced as part of their Windows XP to Windows 7 migrations, and are working hard to ensure that compatibility between Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 is excellent. This also applies to hardware: we are designing Windows 10 to have the same ov... Read more

Okay. Currently I am developing a Private File Sharing Server and Client Application in Visual Studio.NET 2003 with Visual Basic. Well, after programming it, and etc and it works great when I run it via my computer, both the Server and the Client, but when I run the Setup file for the Client on another computer, I get the following message (see screenshot below):

But, when I go to the Control Panel and stuff and check to see what .NET version is on the computer that Im trying to install the Client on, I have version 2.0 (see screenshot below):

So, now my question is, how could I fix this so that the message will not appear anymore? I really would like to get this too work as soon as possible. Thank-you very much in advanced.

I have installed MDT 2013, AIK and WDS on a Server 2012 R2 VM. I have created my deployment shares and Task sequences and everything seems to be ok. When i try to Sysprep and capture a Windows 7 machine by browsing to the deployment share, scripts folder
and then clicking on the LiteTouch.vbs, the windows 7 machine reboots after checking for updates and then the Deployment Wizard is blank, so i cannot continue or see any options. Has anyone seen this before? The windows 7 reference machine is a VM if that

Pop-up said, "Firefox has determined that the following add-ons are known to cause stability or security problems.

JAVA Deployment toolkit 6.0.190/4 6.0/190.4

For your protection, it is highly recommended that you restart with these add-ons disabled."

I have 3 JAVAs and none are named "deployment toolkit". Have java.exe, javaw.exe, javaws.exe.

If this is a problem/threat, how do I solve it?

Thank you ST

A:Solved: JAVA Deployment toolkit 6.0.190/4 6.0/190.4

You sure you install the right Java?

Look and there are the "Java SE Development Kit" versions also.

You want "Java Platform, Standard Edition", JDK 6 Update 20, (JRE).

Note: To develop Java applications and applets, you need the JDK (Java Development Kit), which includes the JRE.

So you want Download JRE

Get the JavaRa to help you uninstall the java and clean things up. Then install the Download JRE

I changd the user profile to default (manually) and did some Favorites links to IE.
When i was satisfied with the customization i created Ghost image. Successfully created image and when deployed i recived a message regarding NTFS volume and wehn the image is deployed , client start up and OS initilization appears .... then system run SCAN DISK showing message that "C" drive needs to be checked. After that OS installed successfully and customizations were also OK.
Any idea how to avoide the scan disk issue ?

A:customized Image deployment with Ghost

Nope. Windows sees the hard disk "environment" as not being 100% on par with what it used to be. Plus it doesn't hurt to run it after an image deployment like that anyways

PS: I know the mod's may bring this up, but no need for double posting in multiple categories

I have a WDS server locally and it works just fine. However, we have several remote locations that are connected through an MPLS. I am able to perform a Network Boot and access the WDS Server. Unfortunately, when I attempt to deploy the image across the MPLS, the installation takes way too long.

I would like to set up a share at each of my remote (MPLS) locations that the images can be pulled from. I want to avoid setting up a WDS Server at each location as it would be a mismanagement of resources for the number of people/PC's at the locations.

Is it possible to set up local shares at the remote locations and configure the WDS Server pull the images from those local shares?

Hi, I had a couple of questions regarding Windows 7 Deployment. Not sure if this is the right subforum to post to, but it seemed the best fit.

One: I tried using sysprep with an answer file to configure a different product key by adding the Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup component to the Specialize pass and configuring ProductKey setting (I should mention that this was the only setting I configured). When rebooting to the image after sysprep (for testing), it errors out and the image is useless. I'm wondering if I am configuring the wrong setting, leaving blank settings that need to be configured, or if maybe I am adding it to the wrong pass. From what I understand the specialize pass is the first pass to run at startup after running /generalize.

Two: I tried running sysprep again (after re-installing to my test partition of course) without the answer file and everything worked fine. However, I was under the impression that without configuring the PersistAllDeviceInstalls setting in an answer file, all the device drivers would be uninstalled. Yet when I logged on, to my surprise, all my drivers remained. This is a good thing in my opinion, but I want to make absolutely sure that it wasn't a fluke and that device drivers are not typically uninstalled when running /generalize.

If anybody can help me out with this I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi tambor198. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

If you partitioned the hard drive prior to installing Vista, I suggest that you try the install again and let Vista re-format the entire hard drive and let Vista dictate the placement of the Operating System (OS) files.

You should also keep an eye on THIS remarkably similar thread in another forum that was posted just 12 minutes after this one - and has received a response. Good Luck to you.

The first of six books in the Windows Server 2003 Deployment Kit, this book provides guidelines for planning, testing, and piloting the deployment of Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Professional operating systems in medium and large organizations. IT professionals can use this book to create a comprehensive project plan, which serves as a framework for designing and deploying complex technologies and operating system features. A key component of this book is a roadmap that summarizes each of the chapters in the kit. The roadmap can be used to match business solutions with the design guidelines discussed in the kit. In addition, because testing and piloting are critical tasks in any deployment project, this book contains guidelines for designing and setting up a test lab, testing applications and resolving application compatibility issues, and designing and implementing a pilot project.

Hello great team, I have a little challenge with my ATA POC deployment for a customer.

Two physical domain controllers (DC1 and DC2) for monitoring (No VM DC at all)One virtual ATA center server
One virtual ATA gateway server Both ATA servers are on different hyper-v hostATA gateway's hyper-v host is connected to the same physical switch as DC1DC2 is on another physical switch
What I did:

Set the Mirroring mode of the ATA gateway to "Destination".Set the Mirror mode on the External port of the virtual switch the ATA gateway is attached to reflect the "Source".I am using only one NIC for ATA gateway

Netmon 3.4 is showing traffic to/fro the two DCs (protocol name=LDAPSASBuffer)It has learned virtually all the AD objects and I can search for users and computer objects successfully

No suspicious activities even after several DNS reconnaissance attack simulationThe Center log shows some brute forced attacks but it is still saying "No suspicious activities" on the attack timeline.
I need help here please.
