Changed Wifi modem and cannot start wifi Printer

Q: Changed Wifi modem and cannot start wifi Printer

Hi there,

My Canon MG 6120 printer used to work with all the computers in the house wirelessly. On upgrading the wifi modem, it is no longer recognised.

How do I get it to be recognised again?

Many thanks, Tony (using Win 10 64 bit on Gateway NV79 c0mputer)

I recently updated my Inspiron 14" 5459 to the Windows 10 anniversary update, i noticed that when my wifi access point changes or wifi signal drops or turning off wifi, my laptop semi-freezes, you could still scroll with the mouse or track pad and select open tabs but that's all, clicking other icons and even the windows start menu does not work, if you wait for more than 5 minutes, everything goes back to normal. Waiting around for about 5 minutes is annoying so what I do is press ctrl alt delete and from there restart the laptop. my wifi adapter is updated to the most recent version and also both graphics card (intel hd 520 and amd radeon m335) is also updated to the latest version.  Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?

A:after Windows 10 anniversary update, Inspiron 5459 freezes if wifi is turned off or wifi access point is changed, is there a solution to this problem?

Please confirm the wireless card from the device manger or the network control panel. Also please update the BIOS firmware to the latest version. The BIOS update should ideally be version v1.2.2. Also please try system out with  a LAN cable as well to confirm if is indeed caused by the wireless. Though this may not run a complete diagnostics on the network you can run a hardware diagnostics on the computer using the following steps

Shutdown the computer
Hold the 'Fn' key and turn on the computer
Let go of the 'Fn' key after 2 seconds

This is will initiate the H/w diagnostics. Please let us know if it completes or if  you run into any errors. If  you do run into any errors.

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig:

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

recently i was having major computer issues on my desktop, i did a full restore to factory settings and after doing a few windows updates i found that my network adaptor was not finding any signals. it does not show up in the change adaptor settings page or in the device manager page. when i troubleshoot my internet connection it says an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in. I have a desktop computer but it definately has a wireless network card. i used to get windows updates for it and it just stopped working one day. when i look in the BIOS the only option related to booting a network card is B03 D00 Yukon PXE. no matter when i boot it i still dont get wireless signals. when i go into the boot menu and try to boot this device it says " PXE E61: media test failure please check cable" i have opened the tower and the card is securely in its slot. i thought i would workaround by getting a usb wifi card. I installed it and connected to the internet and it alternated between having a connection to the internet and being connected to the network but not the internet. even when it is connected to the internet i cannot reach any web pages. my dropbox desktop files update very slowly (7kb/s). when i am connected with the usb card the network stops working for everyone else in the house. they can no longer reach web pages or continue downloads. please help.

Not really. The ADSL router doesn't have the correct WAN interface. You need a standard router with an Ethernet WAN connection.

A:Connect a Wireless Modem to ADSL modem for Wifi

The "nokia siemens SL2_141" is a modem/wireless router combo; I assume that "A Wireless Modem of MTS" is also a modem/wireless router combo.

If my assumption is correct you can use the Nokia as an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If ther... Read more

A:How to configure wifi modem having router with DSL modem ?

Hi there,

On the second router, DHCP needs to be disabled and assign a fixed IP within the router's IP scope (with Wi-Fi capability) i.e. (make sure that to will be in the IP exclusion list).

Greetings to this great forum!
I need your advice about something important:

I turned off my wirless connection protection for a bit, but I had accidentally forgotten to change it back to "protected" mode (using WPA).
About 2 weeks after, one day I went to my pc to surf, when I noticed that my connection was too slow.
Suddenly my explorer closed without message at all. I then opened it again and it closed (without message) again, for second time.
Opening it again for third time, it didnt closed but I had to wait for ages for a simple web page to be opened.
Then, I noticed that my "WLAN" light of my router showed that there was wirless activity going on (and my laptop was off).
I then remembered that I had left wifi without password and I immediately set a (strong) password.
After that, the "WLAN" light of the router stopped showing wirless activity and I was surfing smoothly.

So I suppose that someone was surfing using my router (wirless) and my connection was slowing down because of him.

My questions are:
1) Was it possible for him to connect to my pc and watch my activity?
2) If 1 has happened and I had my msn open (or other applications) is it possible for my msn to be infected or something?
3) Is it possible, if 1 happened, to keep doing it even after I put on a password?
4) That my (internet) explorer closed 2 times without a reason and message, has something to do with this?
5) Is it possible for my pc to be infected at the moment?

I have a slightly different setup so I'm hoping somebody might have some suggestions on what I can try.

I have Comcast Xfinity Internet and a Motorola SB6121 model - have all worked great for years no problems.

I have the modem in my garage with a wifi router and a router for various rooms in my house. My home computer is in an office and previously I had a wired connection that worked great.

I changed wifi router to a new Netgear and the internet connection from the modem is working, the wifi is working, but my home computers ethernet connection will no longer connect...

Any thoughts on what to try other than powering off and on model / routers / computer which I have tried?

A:Changed wifi router, now ethernet doesnt connect - Win 8.1

You can only have one router on your network. For extending coverage, you use Access Points

As for the Ethernet problem, go back and double check your connections to the router.

If you cascaded routers in what are called "Edge Routers". Changing your first router, without any changes on the others can be why you only have a connection to one router and not out to the Internet.

It is really easier to show someone what they did wrong, then explain on a forum.

I was away for 5 days so switched off my router, modem etc at the mains.

When I returned my Vista laptop could not detect my Wi-Fi signal (was working before), but my iPod and XP netbook could.

I did a router hard reset and that seemed to solve the problem initially, but now when I change the SSID to anything but the default 'Belkin54g', the Vista system will not detect it. Okay, so it's not the biggest problem in the world as can just leave default SSID but does seem a little odd....

I removed all the saved connections settings, but that made no difference.

Any thoughts?

Sounds as though Vista has that Belkin name stuck in its mind somehow. If you press the Windows key and R together, you could type regedit in the Open box then run a search in the Edit>Find menu for Belkin54g and delete any entries but first, select Export from the File menu and note the name and location of the Registry backup file you're about to create.

has that resoved the issue or not
it maybe the signal is broadcasting on channel 12/13

can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Hey guys in the last day or so, my Technicolor TG587n v3 modem's wifi disconnects and then restarts whenever I reboot my galaxy S4, wired internet stays connected but wifi turns off, any ideas?

A:Modem drops wifi

Okay. Who is your ISP. There has been known issues for that model. That is why most go with their own equipment for Internet. Too many issues with the all-in-one gateways.

You could just turn off the onboard wifi, and use a Wireless Access Point instead. I use the Engenius ECB-350 for my network. Never have had any issues with it. I can pick it up to 75' from my house.

I am having a BSNL(India) broadband connection with modem ZTE ZXDSL 831 AII. I am using a dail up for connecting to net.

Because of this i cannot connect it to my Wifi router Dlink DI 524 .

Previously i had a modem which need to be connected using dail up connection it was always connected i only had to enable or disable it , and could be easily be connected to WiFi.

but eventually using it with WiFi it became kaput ( i dont know y, but the modem started to behave weirdly and could not be connect later ) hence it was replaced by a BSNL technician . and he told that now there is no other solution than to connect the modem using dial up. because of which i cannot use my wifi .

Can nebody please explain me ,what all setting need to be change to use my Wifi with the modem, because i believe if it cud be done before y not now.

please let me know as soon as possible.

A:please help to configure modem and Wifi

I don't know about the "AII" part, but the ZTE ZXDSL 831 is an ADSL modem/router. It may be acting as both, or it may be "bridged" to act as a modem only.

I also don't really know what you mean by "dail up." Since you apparently have (A)DSL service I assume you probably mean PPPoE and your account/password. If so, then ...

If the modem/router is acting as a modem only you would specify that configuration type in the D-Link's WAN section.

If the modem/router is acting as both then you have a choice of ways to use the D-Link. To simply daisy-chain it the WAN is configured for (the default) dynamic connection and you need to make sure that it is not using the same LAN subnet as the modem/router (I think that the defaults are different).

Hi. In over my head (not hard to do in this area ) I have Centurylink service and currently are renting their modem/wifi box. I want to replace it with my own modem and my Linksys EA4500 N900router. What do I need to buy to replace the modem so that it is compatible with Centurylink? and do I need to know the IP address currently associated with it to set up the new modem?

A:Replace Centurylink Modem/Wifi

You need to check either them to see if they allow that and what all you need to configure and let them know, they may not allow modems that aren't approved from them work or may charge you for modem rental anyways as it may be part of their service. You may also loose the ability for them them to provide you troubleshooting if they are unfamiliar with the units you choose. It appears they are a DSL provider and not Cable is that correct? For DSL you'd have to program the router with your DSL username and password to connect, so you'll need to know that. You shouldn't need to know any IP address for the modem as that's assigned by them but you will need to be able to access your router to configure it, so either it's IP address or use the CD Wizard to configure it.

Wifi Modem interference questions.

I am from the U.S.
I got a combo modem/router from a cable company.
It has four Ethernet ports,
It also wifi capable.
I have two computers both hooked up to Modem/router

I been having signal issues. I thought it was the cable company, which I am in the process of quitting their internet service.

I had the modem disconnected from the cable line the other night. I noticed modem received interference around 11:30 p.m.

What type of devices can interfere with a combo modem/router and cause it not to work at all?
Medical? Alarm?

Yes, I changed to default password for logging into the modem.

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

What kind of phone do you have? If you have wifi, I don't understand why you can't go into the wifi setting on your phone, find wifi & amongst other possible networks should be yours.
Or just get the manual for it , online if need be & go for it. Good luck.

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to Networking but here goes.

I've got a D-Link DSL-604+ 22Mbps Wireless router with built-in ADSL modem and a D-Link DI-624 108Mbps Wireless Broadband router.

Obviously the DI-624 that I recently purchased doesn't feature an in-built modem so instead of blowing $50 on a D-Link ADSL modem with Ethernet connectivity I was hoping to use the ADSL modem feature in my old Wireless router (604+) as my modem for the DI-624.

I called D-Link support but unfortunately after an hour of following live instructions from their support staff, I ended up nowhere.

They instructed me to disable DHCP and NAT features on the 604+ and plug an ethernet cable into it's LAN PORT 1 and plug the other end into the WAN PORT on the 624.

I plugged an ethernet cable into the DI-624 LAN PORT 1 and into my computer's Ethernet port in order to configure the DI-624.

After configuring the DI-624 via its web configuration web page, I could get the 108Mbps network up and running but without the access to DSL.

If anyone any of the above mentioned products and can provide a tip or a link to a guide or something, that would be great.

I had a Beetel 440BXi router (you wouldn't know of this brand, it's India only), and everything was fine with it. This week, the ISP guys came and changed the modem to the different model, Beetel 450TC1. They say it's an upgrade.

But now I'm having a strange problem. It works fine on my desktop (ethernet), and my laptop through WiFi. But my NOT on my phone. I'm sure it's not my Phone's issue because I've tried connecting to other networks, and it works successful. Still, I've tried putting new/different versions of the ROM on my phone, but nothing works. Everything was fine before the router change.

I have no idea what the problem is. I complained to the ISP but they insist it's the phone's problem.

So I've tried all this:
1. Resetting the router to factory settings
2. Using WEP instead of WPA PSK 2.
3. Reflashing my phone.
4. Using 802.11b instead of 802.11g+b.
I'm using Windows Mobile 6.5.3 on my HTC Touch (Elfin).

Can you guys help? What can be the problem?

A:Router and Modem WiFi Issue

Well, the modem has to connect to the WAN/Internet connection or you won't have any success here. What's happening now is the computer is connecting directly to the modem and using the router as a simple switch.

Do NOT try to configure the router using the wireless connection! Connect it with a cable for configuration, then you can disconnect it once you get it all configured.
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

hello, I have a problem connecting wifi router(airlive wt-2000r) to my ADSL modem(webstar epc2203ed2.0) using utp patch cable. When my PC is connected straight to the ADSL modem everything works like charm. But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available.

Connecting them two devices seems pretty simple and I donīt think I am doing anything wrong so what could be the problem?

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you. This is my ipconfig /all

I am usually pretty savvy with networking but this one really has got me. I have searched all over teh Intarwebs with no success solving it.

Basically, here's the issue. I'm in Mexico, and I want to set up a VPN (specifically HideMyAss, HMA) so that I can use my Roku and generally stream things from the United States.

TELMEX has given me a Alcatel-Lucent I-240w-q router which connects to the fiber line they have run to my house.

Separately, I bought a ASUS RT-N16 wifi router because that is the one that HMA says can be programmed to be the central "tunnel" into their VPN. I upgraded the RT-N16 firmware to DD-WRT's most recent build.

I have access to the config sections of both routers so I can modify their settings at will.

So what I need to do is connect the Alcatel router to the Asus router in such a way as I can use the Asus router as the primary access to the Internet (I wanted to set this up BEFORE I get the HMA subscription so that I could confirm it worked before I shell out for HMA).

I would deeply appreciate any assistance at all in setting things up so it goes through.

You'll need to check with Roku as to whether this is a violation of the terms of service. Based on what I'm seeing, Roku has specific appliances for different countries. I can easily see that what you're doing by accessing US programming from Mexico is a violation of the terms of service; more specifically the programming owners will probably have issues with streaming to foreign countries.

I have a query! My mate was using my wifi and he was downloading dodgy stuff (I know, I know!).
Whilst he was downloading, I turned my laptop on and it automatically installed updates before it got to the enter password screen which I thought was suspicious. After I logged in, I updated my Norton antivirus and it updated and then installed a patch. I performed a 'quick scan' and it told me nothing had been found.
I also noticed that when I started playing a game on my phone that usually has advertisements through it, the ad's weren't there and when they were expected to show (in this case at half time of a football game) the game froze. This only seems to happen when the phone is connected to the WIFI.
Is it possible that the WIFI router is harbouring a virus, and if so, how can I fix it? Also, has this virus infected my laptop and phone?

I have searched Google, this forum and others but I can't seem to find a yes or no on this topic.

I have an iPhone 3Gs, I can use it as a tethered modem fine and the speeds are pretty good (on a 3G network). At home I have 3G and Wifi ( wifi through my ISP). I can connect my phone and use it OR use wifi but I can't use both together.

I seem to recall in XP you could do modem doubling (correct me if that's not the correct terminology).

Does anyone know if Windows 7 can support this and how I might configure it?

Hi All,

Did the research here and tried a lot of stuff but still no connections. IPconfig reset etc.

DSL provider supplied a new Netgear modem today.
SSID = HomeWiFi
WPA2 Personal
Signal strength "Excellent"

Netbook win7
I set up a wireless network with WPA2 Personal, AES etc and it connects fine.
"Netbook -- HomeWiFi -- Internet"
All good so far

Laptop Vista SP2 that was working on the old modem right before swapping in the Netgear
I duplicated the win7 wireless setup process.
"Laptop -- Unidentified network -- X -- Internet"
Download and install the latest wifi drivers for the laptop, same response.
It has a wifi LED that flashes like it is connecting, looks like it is negotiating.
I can connect using the 10/100 cable and get internet OK.
I removed security in the modem, removed and recreated the wireless network in Vista, same response.

Anyone care to wade in here and Please help me get this working?

I just recently got Fibre Internet (upgrade from Cable) and a new Wifi Modem (From ISP).

I am trying to access my Wifi modems settings /gateway page ie

I want to change my password etc from the stock one my ISP gave me.

When I type that into my search bar at the top of my search engine (Firefox) I get: The connection was reset?

My internet works perfectly...I can visit websites and download with no issues at a good speed.

I can access my wifi modems settings / gateway page on my tablet and my laptop...just not my main PC.

I have tried Firefox, Google and IE on my PC...none of them work.

The first day I got the Fiber Internet installed I was able to access the wifi modems settings / gateway page on my pc with no problems but no since then.

I am using Win 7

Any Ideas?

I've been having a problem with my laptop that's got me about ready to scream. The laptop is a Gateway running Vista Home Premium and has built-in wifi. I use the wireless to connect to my network at home and other places, but I also occasionally tether the machine to my Blackberry in places where I don't have wireless access. The problem is that once I've used the Blackberry modem connection, I have a tough time getting the system to use the wireless connection again for internet access. Every time I try to open a browser, I get the Blackberry dialup dialog, and if I cancel that, then it goes into offline mode and won't connect at all. I've set the properties in the dialup connection to only dial if a network connection is not available, but that seems to do no good. I can eventually get IE or Firefox to connect by fiddling with the LAN setup or running the connection setup wizard again, but with other applications (Windows Live Installer in particular), I simply cannot connect to the internet via my wireless as long as that dialup connection is present. I finally had to resort to completely deleting the Blackberry dialup connection to get WL installer to work. Any ideas how I can get my two connections to live in harmony? All I want it do is have the thing use the wireless first if it's available...

A:Browser won't use wifi after installing cell modem

I have come across similar problems when using a BT connection with my PPC6700. I find the best way to avoid the problem is to not have the system attempt to dial up. In your case, if it is attempting to access the wifi (but not yet connected) and you have programs attempting connections (since some background programs might trigger this), just having programs sit there might help? You could give it a shot:

START -> CONTROL PANEL -> INTERNET OPTIONS -> CONNECTIONS(tab) -> "Never dial a connection"

That is how mine is setup, and in the "Dial-up and VPN settings" I only have "BluetoothConnection" and this is where I believe your link to the Blackberry most likely is.

Under LAN settings, when I click my button, I have nothing checked, and I have three choices.

I'm just trying to set up my first wireless network. I've been all over the net today and can find nothing that works or matches my configuration. Ad Hocs seem to be for connecting computers, and routers are for dial up or broadband.

What I have is a desktop running XP with a wireless card. I have a wireless printer and a wireless media player. I have a SMC router, but I see no way to configure it, when its plugged it I don't see it anywhere.

My Acer Liquid E Smartphone is my modem. I have no hardline.

I have run the wizard on the desktop, but my printer cannot see the network I created, and when I list wireless networks available to connect to, my neighbours shows up but the one I created does not.

What am I missing? If someone can point me at a step by step tutorial (not video please, my cell service is not good enough for streaming video) I'd be ecstatic!

2.A fiber internet connection.
3.A samsung smart tv with built in lan adapter (40 inch LED-no wifi but wifi ready)

Now the modem which I have mentioned above cannot be used with the fiber internet connection. So,it is just lying waste but I want to use my internet connection provided by my ISP through fiber connection with the modem so that I can use my modem's wifi and lan ports.

What I have done was connected my laptop to my modem's wifi and also to my ISP's fiber connection so my laptop is connected to both the networks and now I have tried to establish a bridge connection between the lan connection and the wifi connection I was successful and I was also able to share my internet connection(as shown in my laptop) but when I have checked for the wifi internet connection it is not there(Checked on my mobile-one x and ipad).

So is there any way so that I can do this...??Please don't suggest me to use a application like connectify or virtual router to share my fiber internet connection.

Now there is a another thing that i have mentioned above my Samsung tv now I have connected one of my modem's lan connection to my tv and tried to use the all share application(my laptop is connected to the same modem through wifi) in my laptop I have found my tv and the laptop connected ... A:How to use a ADSL modem's wifi with a fiber connection.

the answer is YES

you piggy-back the router onto the fibre modem, you can do this if

a) the fibre modem has a LAN port (which it will have)
b) the fibre modem allows its IP range to be changed
c) the spare router allows DHCP to be disabled
d) the spare router allows its LAN IP Address to be changed

if yes to all 4 then you can do this.

you simply shorten the Fibre Modems LAN Range by 1,
e.g. (assuming your Fibre Modem is on change - to -
as the device is on 0.1 and the rest of the range starts from 0.3 to 0.254 , this leaves 0.2 for the 2nd router to use...

(if your fibre modem is on and range is - then follow suit by changing the to and using the for the 2nd router)

now once you done the above in the fibre modem you can turn off any wi-fi in the fibre modem ...assuming it has any.

now unplug the fibre modem and plug in the 2nd router, log in, disable DHCP and set its LAN IP Address (not the range) to the address you free'd up previously... e.g. (or then apply & save - you will now use that IP Address to access this router instead of

now with both unplugged and powered down/off, plug in the Fibre Modem and turn it on, give it time to connect to internet, then plug a LAN cable from one of its LAN ports to any of the 2nd routers LAN ports, plug in and turn on the 2nd router and wait fo... Read more

I am having trouble printing from Toshiba laptop to a new Brother printer.

The PC to Printer was originally

Toshiba > Wifi > Router > WiFi > Brother printer
... and printing was successful

BUT when I substituted ...

Toshiba > LAN > Router > WiFi > Brother printer

... disabled WiFi from PC to router
... printer does not print

I disabled PC to Router WiFi, assuming the LAN connection from PC to router would not "spoil" the router > Printer marriage.

Is it safe practice to have both LAN and WiFi connection between PC and Router ?
I assumed they would clash

The PC has a semi permanent place at a dedicated place, but on occasions I have to rely on WiFi in non LAN locations.

What am I doing wrong?

A:PC to Printer via WiFi and/or LAN

From my point of view this network isn't set up correctly but that may be because of the way you have it labeled.

Everything needs to be downstream of the router, as in modem>router>PC's either wired or wireless. Wired or wireless won't matter when they are connected correctly.

I'm not sure why you are showing the PC first or if that is actually how you have it but the modem and the router needs to be the first.

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I've read through hundreds of posts trying to figure out my issue. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.

Here's the issue, I was given a new laptop for work and it connects fine to our secure wireless network at the office, but when I brought it home it will not connect to my wireless network at home.

When I try to connect to my network at home the wireless manager sits and spins saying "trying to acquire network address". I have 2 iPhones, 1 eMachine and 1 Macbook connected to my network working fine and dandy. However, the HP laptop from work simply won't connect unless wired.

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
2. Power Cycled my Router
3. Power Cycled my entire network
4. WinsockXPFix tool

I'm completely at a loss here. No idea what to do to fix this. I'm running Windows XP and have a 2Wire router.

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me to help solve this annoyance.

I've had experience this problem for a while now on my newly built windows 10 rig. Every few hours, my Wifi simply stops working; the connection is lost. Sometimes it reconnects after a minute or so. Most of the time, I would need to manually disable/enable the wifi adapter in my Network Settings to get it back up again.

It happened with a relatively expensive adapter that I bought not to long ago - Netgear A6210 USB 3.0 dual-band wifi adapter. I found a thread about this issue here. I've not been able to resolve it with any of the tips provided (including downloading a generic 3rd party Mediatek driver). I've used this same adapter without this problem on my older Win7 machine. I thought maybe this adapter "went bad".

So I tried to replace this adapter with an older Wifi adapter made by Rosewill, using older Rosewill drivers. The same issue occurs. (Again, this Rosewill adapter worked perfectly in my Win7 system) So I have a hunch the problem is Windows 10 itself. Does it not place nicely with existing or older wifi adapters on the market? Would I need to buy a new adapter specifically certified for Windows 10?

Anyone have any insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.

When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.

I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.

I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.

Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.

I use a wireless network in the home for media centre purposes (PS3, 2 pcs) and i use a 3g usb modem on the pc that i require internet on whenever that maybe. Problem i have is that when the WLAN is up and i connect to the 3g modem i cant see anything on the internet. Is it something to do with the default gateway? or is it something with my browser? gonna check right now if i can ping and work out if its possibly DNS related will post back in a sec. Ta.

EDIT: It appears to be DNS related as i can ping but if i ping or its not getting a response. Where should i be looking to resolve this?

This is a grab of the ping while both wifi and usb are connected and then the succesful ping is the wifi disabled. What on earth is going on here obviously the ip address is completly different on the succesful ping could this be something to do with a proxy??

A:Solved: When i have wifi and 3g usb modem connected i cannot access internet

Your first suspicion (Default Gateway) is almost certainly the reason. When Windows has a choice of Default Gateways it chooses the wired over the wireless. But if they are the same type--both yours are wireless--I don't know if the selection is random or if there is an algorithm.

Anyhow, the solution is your situation is to assign a static IP to the Wi-Fi connection, leaving the Default Gateway and DNS null (blank). The IP you choose has to be in the router's IP range but outside its Dhcp server's address range.

I will contact Cox shortly with the information, but my brother's computer has seemingly gone from okay to worse even after having scanned with ADWcleaner. It's laggy and whenever he turns it on, it reboots our internet modem and kicks us out of the internet for awhile. I can't even run ADWcleaner again without serious lag.

I'm hoping we can get it back to normal, so I'm posting here. Will contact COX internet about what website triggered the warning that our internet has been compromised.

Hello!I've just bought used (but mostly disassembled) 6470B. It's in very good shape (after cleaning... yuck!) and I see it becoming my main machine. However it's lacking essential components. I want to be it as modern as possible, since it's going to be in use as long as possible. Problem is HP documentation is wildly confusing and often contradicting itself. Will it work with: - Core i7-3632QM 35W Quad core CPU? I've found it's officially compatible with I7-3820QM (which is surprisingly 45W part, but extremely hard to come by in my area). I'd really love quad core CPU, it speeds up my work so much. - HP LT2523 LTE mPCIe modem (it's listed as a spare part for this laptop, despite only hs2350 and un2430 being listed on modem support)? - Intel 7260-AC WiFi/BT card? Previous model I had had WIFI whitelisting, this model probably doesn't, but I'd like to check. - Keyboard with a trackpoint? This requires some explaining: Originally it came with really badly dirty keyboard (not spilled, just unsavagably greased, like doritos mixed with butter massaged into it), and it lacked the trackpoint. Only spares I can find cheaply come with it - will it work (does it have the connector), or if not, will the keyboard still work? - FHD or HD+ IPS display, if there are compatible spares (with correct cable, of course)? I understand that half of it isn't officially  supported, but I'll take the risk, as long as it works. Thanks in advance!

A:Upgrading HP Probook 6470b - CPU, modem, Wifi, keyboard, dis...

Here is the Service Manual: Manual There are two Intel motherboards. One with the QM77 chipset and one with the HM76 chipset. The top listed processor is the i7-3540M. It is listed as a Quad Core but I think in reality it has 2 cores. The smart answer is that you cannot use the i7-3632QM but it may work, particularly if you have the model with the QM77 chipset.  The WWAN modem you ask about is listed in the parts list so will work.  You can only use the WLAN cards listed on p. 38 and it has to be one with an HP Part number.  There are keyboard options with and without the trackpoint so the motherboard is made to accept either one. See the picture on p. 92. There should be a zif connector for the pointer stick right next to the bigger zif for the main keyboard cable.  Looks like the best screen is a 1600 x 900 (HD+).  14.0-in, LED, FLT, HD+, AntiGlare display panel 686047-001 It's a 40-pin LED screen and likely a FHD version in the same form factor, even an IPS, would work but never sure.  Post back if you have any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

A:How to change the Wifi password of an ADSL modem without a computer

I dont think you mean modem; but router rather. Is that right? Because usually modems themselves dont have passwords; but routers do. If its the router you want to change the password for; you should be able to use any device that has web access to access the web configuration page for the router and in there it should have a section where you can change the passphrase/password.

A:How to change the Wifi password of an ADSL modem without a computer

Hello abbasi ,
You can use your iPhone to log in the router and change the wireless settings, however this isn't usually recommended. If something goes wrong when configuring the wireless settings and you are not able to connect to the router you'll need a device that can be connected via Ethernet cable to restore the access.
If this router is supplied by your ISP you can ask them if they have remote access to it to change the password.
Hope that helps.

'Hello, this is my first post here, so I am sorry if anything is confusing.

The reason why I signed up in this forum is s I can seek help fron those that might know more about computer than me, in order to solve my problem

A few days ago, my laptop was working perfectly fine. But then, I turned my computer off, the next day, everything started up as normal, with Windows 7 Home Premium still in the backgrounds when I am logging in but then, the network connecter won't automatically start. So I was left without internet for a bit. Whats more, I noticed that the taskbar, which was always semi-transparent before, is now white. As well as all the title bars of the programs that I open, turned into blue!

Is computer has always ran Windows 7 as far as I am aware, but e way the taskbar, and the title bars, are behaving, reminds me of windows xp.

I first tried to look up how to solve my wifi problem. I manually opened the network connecter in the control panel, and tried to "Connect to a network". But it didn't detect any wifi servers! Which is odd since I had always used the one my family used, and I am using wifi on that server at this moment!

When I tried to use troubleshoot on my "internet connections", it first showed me that the issue was "The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running" but then every other time I tried to troubleshoot again, it doesn't show any problems detected

And with the problem of the taskbar, I tried to search solution... Read more

i have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

thank you in advance for any solutions or suggestions you might have.

Hey guys,

So, what i'm trying to do is create a wifi hotspot using my computer. In other words, turning my computer into a router. I'm wanting to do this so i can use my ipod at home instead of only when i'm around other wifi hotspots.

My computer is running off of a wired router, so that i can play online on my PS3 as well. I was told wifi doesn't work well with Ps3's normally so i just bought a wired router. So, the mainline internet cord is plugged into a wired router and then another line runs into my computer.

For some reason, after i make an adhoc connection, the computer is not sending the required information to the iPod so that it connects to the internet.

I've tried entering in the information into the Static tab in my ipod as well, and still only get Local Connection instead of Local and Internet.

This is what my connection looks like through the router using ipconfig /all:

Hi Cromsy,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. Hi, I have a XPS 13 9343 (i5/QHD) purchased refurbished from 3rd party, recently installed clean W10.
The Dell tool indicates to me that I should be installing:
Installing I get failure log at the bottom.
Via Device Manager as mentioned the WiFi adapter under Network is not there, scanning for hardware changes does not help.
I have tried manually installing inf files but I don't get any options under "Model" when I try to install it through legacy hardware.
I'm starting to think the Wifi/Bluetooth component is either faulty or entirely missing from the vendor (I have not opened it up and wouldn't know how to diagnose this myself).
I've attached a separate wifi dongle which works as does connecting to Ethernet via a USB adapter.
Any other ideas of what it could be? Thanks.

I am considering using a powerline system to give me additional wifi cover, but I am unclear how the available wifi connection is protected. I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

I am confused with ip's etc. I have a Linksys WRT54G router that has usemynet software that allows my customers to enter a ticket number and use the internet at my cafe.

This router goes into the modem/router with my isp. They had to set it up for me because usemynet disallows ip and this is what they redirect to... long story. It works.

Anyway I just added a HP Laserjet 4 with jetdirect ethernet into the router/modem. I setup two wireless computers and they connect to the printer at no problem. Both of these computers are logged into the isp modem/router via wireless.

Now if i log into the wifi Linksys with usemynet software, enter a ticket number, i can connect to the internet but now i cannot ping the printer.

The linksys router is set at:

isp modem/router

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi flogit, For the initiual installation you will need to hook up the printer via usb cable then when all software is installed and the wifi configured you can then disconnect the usb cable and merrily print away

Hi. I don't know how to go about this but basically i have a cable modem connected to a router which then connects to my 3 pc's. (file/printer network sharing and stuff setup via the built in windows wizard). and i have a printer plugged into one of the pc's. (all using windows xp)

they can all use the printer just fine.

i got this NEW pc(windows 7), which is not physically connected to this router. instead, i set up a wireless connection to it. (a wired connection is not possible)

internet access also works fine.

BUT, i just realized that i think file/printer sharing it cannot do. i think it's because even though it can use the same internet it's on it's own wireless network and not the wired one. so i guess they can't communicate with each other? (this is all new to me, forgive me if this is obvious stuff to you guys)
so i'm wondering. how can i get the wifi pc to talk to the non-wireless printer?

i seriously have no idea. all i know is, they're all using the same router to connect to the internet, but when it comes to talking to eachother, the lan keeps to themselves, and the wlan is on it's own. (poor little guy.)

and also, i don't think the printer can be connected directly to the router.
thx in advance

today I was installing the full version of the software for my printer (HP J6480) so I could edit the text in my scanned document the original driver was the one that win7 automatically downloads and uses and while it was installing the software I looked down at the task bar I noticed that the wifi had a "!" in it ( it worked 2 minutes before that) and since then I've not had Internet
I have tried restoring it 2 days back no success , reinstalling wifi card ,and the built in network troubleshooter with no success
My specs are
Dell inspirion 537s 2gb ram 2.93 intel core 2 duo
Win 7 home 64 bit
Wifi card is a d-link WDA-1320

Thanks in advance for your help

Have been reading many posts on many forums. Still can't get this to work. We have a healthy mix of Macs and PC's. My Windows 7 Home Premium is the central computer. (mine) I want my family using their MAC osx laptops to print on my HP M1319 connected to my PC. I have all the printer sharing options etc on the PC set and I have used the add printer on the MAC, clicked advanced tab, used both smb and lpd options. to no avail. also very difficult to access the correct driver. I tried to install the driver for the M1319 on the Macs - but it always hangs when it can't see the printer. Anyone have the one true answer!!?
Thank you

A:Share HP Printer with Mac via Wifi

Is the printer attached to the Windows 7 via the USB port?

If yes:

Search the forums for Windows 7 and USB printing, you will find many many threads on this. Seems that Windows 7 does not share USB printers well.

My suggestion as I have given in other threads is to purchase a USB to Network device and put the printer on the network directly. Then all machines can print to it, plus you don't have to leave the Windows 7 machine on to print. Just my 2 cents, but is seems to work the best and will give you the least headaches

Ok so this isn't exactly a question, but some feedback might help. My nice new clean Windows 10 set up just got knobbled by our new HP Printer. Partly my fault as I added it as a device before downloading and installing the HP software and drivers, so windows provided a basic driver and then Windows update got stuck for ages. So I clean installed again, put the HP software and drivers on, and all is fine now, connected to the printer. My gripe is - I have this nice clean install and a load of rubbish HP software on it now. Already had to disable "Scan to Computer" as it kept popping up all the time.

So if anyone else has an HP wifi printer, can you run it with just the HP drivers and not have all the rubbish software installed?

Hey everyone,
I'd really appreciate any help you guys can give on the issue...I'm at my wits end at this point...

So anyway, about a month ago my old 2wire modem pretty much kicked the bucket for good (after about 4 years of more or less dedicated service with the occasional hiccup here and there, I was kind of saddened yet relieved) and I was left without internet for a few days. I contacted my ISP with the issue, and after a bunch of failed restart attempts on their end (I told them the damn thing was dead already, but they were insistent on making sure I wasn't bs'ing them) they finally relented and decided to send me their new Pace 4111n router/modem.

A few days later, low and behold, I had a new Pace and guess what? IT HAD WIFI!!

The reason why this came as such an interesting surprise was because my old 2Wire that my ISP had originally provided us with was simply a modem with no router/wifi capabilities on it. In order to bypass the lack of Wifi, I had to purchase a Netgear N300 router and had it hooked up to the 2Wire for years with no connectivity issues.
Anyway, with the new Pace in hand, I put my old Netgear away and plugged the new baby in....and here is where things kinda went downhill.... old set up was kinda strange...I used to have the 2Wire modem hooked up to the Netgear router and in between had a Grandstream HT502 Voip phone adapter plugged in (we have the need in my household for long distance phone service, and in order to ...
