Can't acquire a Windows Seven Ultimate.

Q: Can't acquire a Windows Seven Ultimate.

My old computer has been somewhat rendered unusable and I am in the process of getting a whole new pc.

I usually shop at PC Specialist for all my PC needs but I have encountered a small problem.

PC specialist no longer sells the ultimate edition of any of the Windows OSs; and I am in need of a windows seven ultimate os.

I took a search on ebay and amazon and I have concluded there are a lot of shady sales for this product.

I was wondering if there was a legit way to buy a retail version of windows seven ultimate?

(Side note, my last licence was an oem, so it can't be used on my new pc)

I recently re-installed windows xp and after I did it I have had trouble connecting to the internet.

What will happen is I will connect to my wireless router and it will start connecting fine, but then it wont be able to acquire the network address for some reason. It will start trying to acquire it but then not work, it is sooooo frustrating. My computer is an MSi wind notebook. I have been on countless forums looking for an answer but I cannot find one, so any help would be great . Also sometimes after a while it will say "Limited or no connectivity" and show a warnig type sign at the bottom of the screen.
Thank you, Leo.

I have a desktop running Windows 7, with a second hard drive that I want to use to backup my laptops. The laptops are able to access the network, the internet, and the printers attached to the network. However, when I try to backup to the "backup" the laptop drive, I am asked for a login and password. The default setting is no password required for file and printer sharing. My laptop is running Vista Ultimate. I have NOT set up a login and password for the desktop. How do I access the files on the desktop from the laptop, so I can backup the laptop?

Probably not needed to know but both are x64.

You have an OEM ( system builder ) product key as well as a Retail product key?

Should be fine to just enter the system builder key.

Recently I set up a computer for a friend from scrap parts I had. The computer was installed with XP pro and everything was going all good, until today.
He has been connected to his neighbors internet and it was working up until probably 4 or so hours ago. Nothing changed at all just suddenly it wouldn't acquire an IP address. I have tried letting him use my wireless adapter to be sure it wasn't the one he was using, but no success. I tried removing his new wireless mouse and keyboard to be sure that was not a problem, and still no success. I did a system restore to a day before when the internet worked fine, and again no success. So finally out of desperation we restored the computer and formatted it with windows xp pro again, everything is fresh we installed the wireless adapter and tried to connect, as you guessed it no cigar. I am currently connected to his neighbors internet (win7 x64 premium) and have no issues whatsoever, the signal isn't perfect but definitely adequate. What is going on? What can we do to resolve this issue? It seems if anything would fix that it would be an entire clean install of Windows, however that's not the case. Any idea's or input is appreciated, Thanks in advance

My computer cannot acquire an I.P. address, no matter what network i connect to. Its running Windows XP SP2 and Ubuntu dual boot, and I can't connect to a wireless network in either.

I used to be connected to a wireless network which only accepted my MAC Address and I had no problems with that. I moved house and haven't had an internet connection since I moved apart from an ethernet cable connected to another computer. I tried to plug this ethernet into my computer, but the IP couldn't be acquired. I tried to use my phone as a modem, and got the same problem. I also brought my computer to another house to try connect it to their wireless and again received the same problem. If I set the I.P. to one in the range manually, it says its connected, but no websites will load. I have tried every solution I found online and none worked.

I can't seem to connect to the internet. I called the comcast tech guy and he told me that the problem is that my computer can't acquire an ip adress. I'm connecting my laptop to the internet with the same modem that I use for the computer so obviously the problem is with the computer. The operating system is Windows XP. This all started after I got a malware program on my computer. I rebooted in safe mode and ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it got rid of the malware, but since than my computer freezes for 5 minutes on the start up screen every time I reboot and its not connecting to the internet. I can deal with the 5 minute freeze for now, but I really need to connect it to the internet. Anyone have any ideas?

A:Can't acquire an IP adress

Give us as much of this info as you can.
Iconfig /all will give us the pc's view of it's network.
Pings will give us some idea as to the connectivity of your pc.

From a Johnwill post on the Networking Forum

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address> For addresses,follow instructions below….

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING www.yahoo.com
Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. IPV4 for Vista

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

my network wont share its internet connection correctly. i have the DHCP enabled and the clients cant connect. the connection is shared on the server and the clients cant connect. occasionally when im screwing around with it, i can get the clients to the "acquiring network address" step and they time out. why are they trying to acquire a new network address? if the connection is shared it should assign them something like 192.168.x.x right? the network was fully functional once upon a time and it stopped awhile before service pack 2 even came out. i can share/view files from all the clients and the server and visa versa but no internet function. please help me understand why the IPs wont assign right. thanks in advance for any help provided

I have had to reload windows XP on a Phillips LS1600 desktop PC. Previously the pc linked wirelessly to my home network although it was a bit difficult to get the MSI 802.11b/g wireless LAN to acquire an IP address. Since reloading the operating systems it has again been impossible to get the pc to link to the wireless network stating that the pc cannot acquire an ip address. I have tried a Netgear WG111T usb wireless adaptor and a Belkin 7050 usb wireless adaptor but both of these have the same problem. I have updated all drivers, disabled unwanted adaptors, disabled all firewalls, run winsockxpfix, rebooted the router but still connections cannot acquire an IP address. Two other pcs are connecting well.
I am thinking of connecting using a wired connection and update XP (if it will let me). Please advise.

HI there,

Okies....all of a sudden my main PC wont acquire an IP address from my wireless network. I suspected that it was the router and binned it, I bought a new and set it up. Its now running and secure and Ive got my laptop connected to it flawlessly.

I guess the problem isnt with the Router or network. So it must be the card or PC?

The belkin wireless utility sees the netwrok and thinks that it is connected with limited connectivity but the windows icon (with the little ball rolling side to side) says that it is acquiring network and goes on for hours until I stop it.

I have tried to repair it and force it to acquire but to avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a Belkin wireless router attached to my computer. It was set up as an access point, with an IP address of 192.168.0.254. I had some problems with the network today and could not access this unit by typing in the IP in my browser. I feel certain that is the IP address I put in it when setting it up, as I have a record I kept of all the settings. Is there a way to retrieve the IP address to verify that is what it is set to?

Hi guys

I just got a final version (The one that arrives on october 22nd) dvd with Windows 7 Ultimate, with both 32bit and 64bit..

But my problem is that everytime i choose 64bit installation in the installation menu, and then choose upgrade, it compatibility checks my pc, and then it says that i cannot install, because its not the same architecture, even tho my pc is able to upgrade to the specified version!

Well, i should be able to upgrade from vista ultimate x64 to 7 ultimate x64, without doing a clean install?

If anyone knows how to solve this, please reply

Oh yeah, my OS i windows ultimate 64bit...

Thanks

A:Cannot upgrade windows vista ultimate 64bit to windows 7 ultimate 64bit!!!

Run setup while in Windows and you can.

If you run Setup from within Windows:

You can upgrade Windows Vista or Windows 7 Build 7077 or later.
You cannot run x64 Setup on a system running an x86 build of Windows, or vice-versa.
You cannot upgrade Windows XP or any pre-7077 build of Windows 7 (unless you use the workaround I describe later in this post).
You can install Windows 7 on the same volume as an existing Windows version. (I describe the best way to accomplish this in #4.)
You cannot make any changes to the layout of a disk; you must use existing partitions, and Setup will not recognize unallocated space.
If you boot from the Windows 7 DVD:

You cannot upgrade an existing Windows version. Your only option is a custom install.
You can delete existing partitions, create new partitions, extend an existing disk partition to unallocated space, or designate a block of unallocated space as the setup location.
You can install Windows 7 on the same volume as an existing Windows version.

The problem is, I cannot connect to the router wirelessly. An IP address cannot be acquired, I think.

The ethernet connection is fine, and also other computers can connect wirelessly without an issue. I searched around this site and google, but I can't figure what to do.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop for a friend. I upgraded his firmware to the lastest version from the Dell.com website. Now his 3Com 10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet card (built in to mboard) won't successfully acquire an ip address.

I have the laptop direct wired into my Linksys WRT54G router. Two other computers are successfully connected through the same router with no problems. I have included the Dell laptop into the correct workgroup name.

It successfully pings (127.0.0.1) but when I type "ipconfig" there is no ip address, no subnet mask, no default gateway.

If I type in "ipconfig /all" it shows a physical address, dhcp enabled and autoconfiguration enabled. No other info shows up.

I typed in "ipconfig /release" and it says it is already released.

When I type in "ipconfig /renew" it gives me an error message saying RPC server not available.

I have uninstalled the client and server from the NIC properties. I then deleted the NIC and rebooted twice. I still get the same results.

I upgraded the driver from the 3Com card with same results.

Any suggestions to correct this problem would be greatly appreciated.

As it turns out, I "solved" the problem minutes after making this post. I turned on (yes, on) my firewall and after allowing the alerts that came up for the PC card, everything now works wonderfully.

Hi,

I reinstalled a driver for my Wirless LAN Mini PCI Adapter in my laptop yesterday and now I can't get an IP address to connect to my network. A long time ago someone changed a setting on this laptop to access a network in a school and when my gf brought it home we no longer could connect to our home network. I fear this same problem has came back now and I don't recall how it was fixed last time.

Anyway, put in the IP address, subnet and DNS #s this AM to try to manually connect and it shows up as connected now but the packets being sent are like 11-24 and received is 0. Can anyone help me get this working? Thanks!

i had a similar problem because it was being blocked by my firewall: I put the IP address in the 'trusted' zone on my firewall and hey presto.

A few days ago the internet randomly stopped working and remained stuck on 'acquiring network address', or something like that, before coming up with a 'limited or no connectivity' message. Apparently our Linksys router was the problem, since my husband's computer has normal internet access when wired directly to the modem. Recently we bought a new router, still a Linksys (though this one is model WRT54GS V7.2) which has the exact same problem -- the install software won't even run because it apparently can't detect a new gateway or router. We've tried installing the router software on my own computer following the same instructions from the install CD, but ended up with the exact same problem as on my husband's computer. We've tried restarting and refreshing the IP numerous times, though none have worked.
We also tried plugging in the router to the modem and a computer without running the installation software, and the computer recognizes the router enough to again search for the network address, though it never finds anything.
What could be the problem?

Both our computers run Windows XP SP2, and though the router we use is capable of wireless we connect all our computers to it through regular ethernet wires.

The other day my computer was connected to the internet via my wireless network with no problems. While I was messing around I lost connection. It has been 3 days since then and I cannot reconnect to my wireless network. My laptop works fine, as does my roommates desktop.

I am running windows XP and have been able to connect to the only non secure wireless network in my range, but with very low connectivity. The signal strength of said network is very low. When connecting to my network it seems to get stuck on the acquiring network address phase, while signal strength and that is very good.

I ran ipconfig/all through command prompt and this what I get:

DHCP and TCP/IP can not be started from Services with out the following error.

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

I've checked the dependencies and all are running.

AFD is the only driver common to both DHCP and TCP/IP so I assumed it is either not running or is corrupt..yet when I try to start AFD from the CMD prompt I get...."service is already running.

I have since disabled my Lan Connection via Network Connections as it just sits there trying to acquire ip without ever timing out.

I also performed a registry scan with Registry Booster in Safe Mode. It reported:

1061 System Errors
205 User Errors, and
1 Third Party Error

A cursory review of the log tells me the majority have to do with poorly uninstalled programs. I did NOT let Registry Booster fix anything.

I try to "repair" it and it again tries to acquire the network address, but can't. The only way to get it to connect is to go into Properties/Network Connections and check the box to have Windows do the configuration. What do I need to do to get it to connect automatically again?

I searched around the internet and have come up with nothing.

A few nights ago there was a real bad thunderstorm and afterwards my computer and xbox 360 were not connecting to the internet. I have a desktop that is connected to my house's LAN through a cable. After checking out a number of different things I have come to believe it is definatly the computer and Xbox which are suffering from some sort of problem. My mom's laptop (which I am on right now) has no problem connecting wirelessly or with a cable. I have moved my computer down to the office and plugged it in with a working cable and it will not connect.

The computer will say that a cable is unplugged, try to connect, will not be able to acquire a network address, then the icon will switch to a yellow warning sign and say there is little to no connectivity. I ran a loop to test the network card and it tested ok (4 returns). This is really stumping me. Any help is much appreciated.

Ok, so I'm trying to fix my sister's laptop (emachine d620), and all I have left to do is get the internet working. It's stuck on "Renewing IP Address/Acquiring Netwrok Address" and SOMETIMES will go to limited or no connectivity. Repairing the connects yields the same results. I went into a cmd, but when I type 'ipconfig' it looks like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.EXPERIENCE>ipconfig
'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Help, plz? :/

Thank you!

My computer is stuck on accruing network address, here is the story

My computer became infected with Win AntiVirus Pro a while ago and I was finally able to remove it using spy-bot and ad-aware. (I mention this since it seems to be the last thing I was doing before the problem started) Problem is the next day I was unable to connect to the internet.
I tired to repair the connection, however as soon as I clicked repair I was immediately advised “windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: renewing your IP address. For assistance, contact the person the manages your network.”
I did contact my ISP and was unable to fix the problem after about 3 hours of troubleshooting. I tried running thorough the Ethernet port and a usb. I am convinced as is my ISP that it is a problem with the computer, not the service, as I can connect to the internet when I plug the modem into a different computer.
When I type in ipconfig /renew I get the message: An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: The RPC server is unavailable.
I have a dell dimension dim 4500 with windows xp(2002). The modem is connected directly to the computer.
I feel stuck between a rock and hard place since My computer tells me it’s a ISP problem and my ISP tells me it’s a computer problem.
Can anyone help?

A:Cannot acquire network address

"The RPC server is unavailable."

Server? Sure it wasn't "service"? If it was service: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service should be started and its Startup Type should be 'Automatic.'

About a week ago we had a virus on this computer. Ran malware and AVG and the computer worked fine. A few days after the virus was removed I could not get online or print to the printer that was hosted on this computer. It is a wired connection. Under network connection, it says "acquiring adress" but it never aqcuires one. I typed in the IP address manually and that allows me to get online but I cant see the other computers on the network and they cant see this computer. Any thoughts?

We cannot help you with malware removal here due to forum rules. Please click on the link for Virus/Malware Help in my signature and do as many of those steps as you can and skip those you can't and post there for more help. Once the security experts give you a clean bill of health;
Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course)
Now Go to Start/Run and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0 Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

I bring my laptop to work every day. I have no problem automatically logging onto the network and using the internet and the wireless printer at work. However, when I come home it will give me a strong signal of my wireless network BUT my internet connection is stuck on "acquiring network address" and always fails to log me on. I try repairing my network connection and that doesn't work either. In order to connect to the internet I have to go to the wireless router and modem and unplug everything, wait a minute, and plug everything back in before it finally connects me to the internet. I recently added a network key (in order to secure my network). I'm trying to get connected to Verizon DSL for the first time, I have a Dell Dimension running XP, I've gone through the install and can't get a connection. I have the icon in the task bar showing the two computers trying to connect, when I hold the mouse over it it says: "acquiring network address", but it never does. I was on the phone today with Verizon tech support, he tried everything he could think of: couldn't ping anything, tried setting manual ip addresses instead of automatic, tried connecting with USB instead of Ethernet, his final suggestion was that the nic is faulty, however this doesn't make sense to me since it didn't work through USB either. The computer can connect fine through my old dial up connection.
I tried the install with a second computer (Toshiba laptop) and it worked fine, so the problem is definitely something to do with the Dell. I don't have a screenshot or text file for ipconfig on the Dell, but I know that all of the addresses are 000.000.0.0 (or something like that).
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm on Windows XP I have a D-Link Dir-655 wireless router connected to my cable modem.

The router worked for well over a year & I went away from home for a few days & turned my PC stuff off. When I came home I tried connecting & no webpage would load.

I called my cable company & they reset my cable modem & still nothing. I connected my cable modem to the PC directly & everything works fine, so that isn't the problem.

>I went out & bought a new Belkin N300 wireless router & it too has the exact problem of not working on connecting to the internet.

>I tried new Ethernet cable cords.

>I hooked up my modem & router in the correct order & tried it before my PC was turned on & after.

>I tried resetting my router.

>I changing different DNS numbers >I tried switching between automatic & a manual static IP in Control Panel > Network & Internet Connections > Network Connections > Local Area Connection.

>I tried run > cmd > 'netsh winsock reset catalog', which worked once before for me a long time ago.

Nothing works! Basically when I connect my cable modem to my router, it can not acquire a IP, no matter what. It either finishes & say's 'Internet connects limited' & won't connect to any webpage or will keep trying continuously to connect without ever doing so.

What is the problem?

Hi everyone, my family recently updated (or so we thought) to Sky Broadband using our Netgear router, and it's been giving us some problems. My computer upstairs connects to this one through the wireless router, and suddenly it won't let me get past the 'acquiring network address' stage. The icon in the taskbar constantly flashes from red to green, and I can't access the internet at all. This downstairs one that's directly connected to the router works though, so I have no idea why mine won't. I'm running Windows XP. I'm definitely a beginner, so please don't get too technical!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Helen.

ISP: Sky Broadband
Router: Well, downstairs it's NETGEAR WG511v2 (My router is a USB one that connects to this one)
Connection Type: Wireless
Encryption Used: WPA
OS: XP Home Edition
Browser: Mozilla Firefox (but IE doesn't work either)

When I change the encryption to WEP or disable it, it doesn't work at all.

A:Solved: Cannot 'acquire network address'...

Uh, never mind. I disabled all my firewalls, changed the encryption to 'Disable', applied it, took out the usb router, restarted, plugged it back in, changed the connection back to WPA, entered the pass phrase (with caps lock on, despite it telling me to turn it off) and all is working fine. This is now from the upstairs/my computer.

Turns out this router USB thingy is called NETGEAR WG111v2, just in case that matters to anyone!

Hi All

I'm a programmer, but not in PC languages. There's an Excel file, available from a website, whose contents need to be downloaded and converted to another format. The actual conversion - i.e. the parts after downloading and saving as .csv - is done, but I'm wondering if the first part could be automated. The site does not provide FTP access - it's just a "right-click and download" situation.

So, my question is:
1. Can a simple batch file (or whatever) be created to download a specific named file from a specific site?
2. Additionally, can the file be saved as .csv (from Excel) at the same time.

At the moment I have to leave clunky instructions to the user to navigate to the site, right-click, etc., then call the conversion.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Guys

I have an issue connecting to the internet and after reviewing the forums I couldn't find a solution applicable to my situation so here goes.

I use a PC at work and we are in the process of moving so we disconnected our internet early. For a couple weeks I need internet connection at work and found our neighbor who is allowing me access to their service. They gave me their password but when I try and connect it constantly says acquiring network address. My smartphone has no issue being connected.

Here is as much information as I can gather

Dell PC Inspiron
Dell 1450 wireless adapter with correct driver installed
wireless zero configuration disabled (using Dell)
have released and renewed ip in command function

Any help would be appreciated

Hi, we have recently had to restore a laptop and now it will not connect to our wifi set up. the router is identified but sits on the acquiring network address routine with no further progress. in the device manager, PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Communications Controller show compatibility errors - exclamation mark on yellow background. I tried to install SP3 but could not. any assistance at this stage would be helpful. I am not in front of the machine at the moment but can try any suggestions once I get home this evening.

DHCP Client will not start from services menu and neither will TCP/IP all other networking services appear to be started and working.

DHCP dependencies are:

AFD Networking Support Environment
TCP/IP Protocol
IPSEC driver
TCP/IP dependencies are:
AFD

Since the TCP/IP's only dependency is AFD I suspect it has been deleted or corrupted. How do I go about fixing that?

I have a Fujitsu Pi1505 notebook running Windows XP that has an Intel 3945ABG built wireless chip. It has been working fine on my home network in the UK using WEP.
I recently took it to France and had connectivity problems with hotspots. It worked fine if it was an unprotected network, but if it was protected then I entered the key and it then spent ages trying to acquire the network address and finally gave up. The key was OK, because if I mistyped it then it complained.
When I got home the notebook connected straight back onto my home network. The strange thing is, I went around to a friends house where it had connected many times before and that failed as well. Any ideas?
I have downloaded the latest driver from the Fujitsu web site and it has not helped.

Hello,
Quite recently my laptop's been unable to hook up to the internet
I can get it connected to my modem (wirelessly and through an ethernet cable) but it's unable to acquire a network address, no matter how many times I repair the connection or restart my laptop
I know the problem's not with the modem because I can connect to the internet on my sister's laptop (which I'm on now)

I've never had this problem before with my laptop, I'm quite new to this internet troubleshooting thing, can some help?

Hello,
I purchases a Sony Vaio Intel i3 2 weeks ago largely because its a Sony and because of the Wireless Display it offered using Netgear Push2TV 1000.
My first day the WiDi worked perfectly but then I got busy installing and updating the computer.
And now, two weeks later, when I attempted to connect to P2TV the TV screen just says "Could not obtain network address".
I updated the drivers. Nothing changed.
Reset the adapter. Nothing changed.
Enabled My Wifi/checked for Intel Wireless PAN DSCP server/checked firewall. Nothing happened.
I looked up other people having the same issue and there seems to be a lot and they all agree that there is no cure in sight. Apparently, BestBuy even had the balls to tell some of them to restore the computers to its original factory setting to resolve the issue which is pathetic.
Just want to check if anyone here figured this puzzle out yet.
Thank you.

Have you tried factory resetting the router via the pin hole in the back and setting it up afresh.

Don't use any backed up configs.

EDIT When factory resetting a router, ensure you hold the button in for at least 15secs for it to properly reset.

Hey all, I would like to apologize in advance if this problem has been posted numerous times before and is easily resolved. I've worked with computers for a major part of my life, but I've never been in-depth with them.

Alright, now straight to the point.

Specifications:
My laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-Z16SN running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3.

Problem:
For internet access, I've always connected my computer via ethernet cable and never have I had any problems with it until yesterday at least. When I connect it the status shows "Limited or no connectivity", I've tried connecting repairing the connection but it returns with "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address". The IP address shows 0.0.0.0 and Subnet Mask 0.0.0.0. Under 'Services' in the administrative tools, I've checked that the DNS Client as well as the DHCP Client are both running. I've tried manually entering the IP Address, but to no avail, the connection status would show "Connected" but but I am unable to actually use the internet showing "Server not found" on my internet browsers, therefore I set it back to Auto. Under command prompt, whenever I type ipconfig /renew the following error would occur:

5 days ago, I ran Microsoft Security Essentials on my laptop to remove a suspected virus. Since then my computer has been running faster, but now I am unable to connect to the internet. Neither my wired nor wireless connection will connect. Both spin in circles saying "Acquiring IP Address." I have since connected two other devices to the connection, so I now that my issue is not laying with the router. Since this issue has started, I have been scouring the internet for solutions and haven't been able to find one. I have checked the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties and they are set to obtain automatically. Because of the things that I have seen on the blogs I have come across and what I am seeing on my computer, I am wondering if I have some form of malware attached to my system.

Any help would be greatly appriciated and a HUGE thank you in advance.

I have an HP pavilion mx 70 desktop and an hp laptop. The desktop is connected via ethernet to the router, and the laptop is wireless. The modem is separate. I have cable highspeed internet access. Up until about a week ago both computers were able to access the internet. All of a sudden, neither computer could get on the internet through the router. I have to run the ethernet cable directly to the modem, and then I can get on the internet.

I can't acquire a network address - it just gets stuck, and I get the same message, this connection has little or no connectivity.

The router was a linsys. I thought that was the problem, so I bought a new d-link router, but same issues - no internet.

D-link tech support walked me through assigning a static address and pinging, but no luck. I can't even get into the router by typing its address into the browser.

Device Manager doesn't indicate that there is any problem with the nic card, but I did uninstall it and then reboot.

I have turned off, reset, etc. both the modem and router.

I have also tried release and also tried somethin with winsock

I am just computer literate enough to function, and to get myself in trouble, but I would appreciate any help.

I think the rootkit is gone for now, the network won't acquire the IP address. If I manually set the IP address, it will not register DNS properly, however the internal file sharing network works using this method, but no the internet access. I've tried running the Network Diagnostic tool, and NetShell utilities to reset the TCP/IP stack and Winsock, but same problem still exists. I even tried the repair install. I'm guessing the removal of the rootkit did something to the registry that prevents the IP from being assigned automatically. As you can see in the log, I've used many tools to try to fix it. Hi,
Machine with Win7 Pro 32bit.
This peculiar problem from 4 days, when the machine is logged in, it takes very long time to acquire ip address (though its a static ip).
The Network icon at the task bar keeps searching (rotating) and meanwhile I cannot open any folders or applications.
It gets connected after a while approx 10-15 minutes.

I have reset the winsock. Tried stopping some unwanted services in msconfig, disabled the built-in firewall, uninstalled antivirus (security essentials).
No hopes...
Any workarounds....

Thanks,
Kiran

Hello,

Click start>run. Type 'cmd' and press enter. In the command prompt type in 'ipconfig /all' and press enter. Paste the results into the thread.

From what you have said it sounds as though it is looking for an IP address and doesnt have a static address assigned.

I just assembled a Pentium 4 rig with ASUS mobo P4S800D-X and apparently I am having internet connection issue with wired connection. I am connecting through a router and all internet connection are test to work fine with my other computer. I was able to connect wirelessly using a USB internet adapter. It is just the wired connection that is not functioning. I have consulted with ASUS tech support and at first they told me to uninstall the network adapter and reinstall and still problem not solved. Then they said could be a TCP/IP stack issue so they told me to download the SP3 and still issue not resolved.

Does anyone have any issue similar to this that can help me figure out this weird problem?? Thanks.

NAT is on and as I referred, everything else works fine but this XP-machine. Has enyone encountered similar things with XP (or Vista?) and what should I do? Next stage is reinstalling XP, but don't wanna do that so easily.

I have a 10/100 network with 4 wired PC's attached all running Windows XP pro. The architecture is as follows

Virgin Media Super Router connected to fiber internet 60mg internet connection - this is connected to a 4 port netgear switch in the upstairs part on my house. one cat 5 cable links it with the study downstairs into another where there is another netgear 4 port switch. This switch has two pc's attached, one Western Digital NAS and another Netgear wireless router which in turn has two pc's attached. Wireless devices pick up the internet no problem but the four pc's take about an hour to acquire an IP address. This is a fairly new problem, the system has actually worked fine for years.

Any Ideas why?

I am working on a home laptop, running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3. It was infected with the Internet Security Essentials virus, plus who knows what else. The computer appears to be virus free now.

To get functioning again, I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software and the Avast free anti-virus software on a Windows boot-time scan. The Avast was the last function I ran, and I have since run a scan that came up clean. Everything on the computer appears to be working, except the internet.
I have tried both the wired and wireless internet connections, and they both are stuck on "Acquiring network address". Also, there are two computers connected directly to the internet, as well as another laptop working on a wireless connection, so my internet service is fine.

It seems that I knocked something out when finally cleaning out the virus/malware with the Avast, but I don't know how to fix it. I have tried three fixes so far. I reset the TCP/IP. The Windows XP network diagnostics said there was a "problem with the Winsock provider catalog", so I ran the reset it provided. I then also downloaded and ran "WinsockxpFix", which still did not solve the problem.

Can anyone out here help?

A:No Internet After Virus Removal (cannot acquire network address)

I'm having a similar situation. This weekend my ACER laptop running XP was infected with the XP homesecurity 2012 garbage. One of the first things that happened was that the web disconnected and when it tried to reconnect it would cycle around and think while acquiring the network address.

I was able to remove the virus (I'm pretty sure at least), but I still can't get back online. The network is fine, because my wife's computer is able to get online just fine.

I called up the tech support for my internet provider and he set up a new network for me, but I can't connect to that one either. It seems the virus monkeyed up my connection settings.

Please let me know what info you might need to help me with this.

Hi,

My network key was changed recently, and it took a few tries for my laptop to connect, but when it did it was fine. Then the key was changed again, and now my wireless is wonky. Sometimes it can't find the network, other times it will find it but then can't acquire a network address, and if it does manage to connect (sometimes it will as soon as I click 'Cancel' when it's taking forever to get the address) it starts slowing down and then speeding up again.

The settings have not changed on anything, other than the network key.

A:Wireless speed lagging, slow to acquire network address

I'd reset the router, try unsecuring the network, do you have any other devices that use 2ghz band close by?

I have little to add to the thread title. How do they do it if they're not actually breaking into the account?

Also, my Hotmail account was permanently deleted in June due to inactivity. Is it possible that my contact list is still floating around online somewhere, or do I have nothing to worry about?

I ended up with Antivirus Soft. I used rkill and Malwarebytes in safe mode (administrator). After it removed several infections. I rebooted in normal mode. The wireless keyboard would not work (the wireless mouse using the same USB dongle works fine) and the network connection was acquiring an IP address (never aquired).Ran rkill and Malwarebytes in normal mode and my user name in safe mode. It cleared up some additional infections in my user name safe (none as I recall in my user name in normal mode). Ran Spyware Doctor. It found Spyware.Known_Bad_Sites. Since it wasn't going to remove it without buying the full version (and still not solve the problem). I've since run Dr Web Cureit (removed Backdoor.Tdss.565) and Cool Cleaner. No change. The keyboard works in safe mode. Currently the Hardware Device Manager says "Windows cannot load the device for this hardware because a previous instance of the device is still in memory (Code 38). I've uninstalled and reinstalled from the original disk- no change. I'm currently using a wired keyboard. The network works in safe mode intermittently. Sometimes (once every 4 or 5 boots) It boots up normally (blue task bar; network operates) Occasionally it doesn't appear normal (wallpaper comes up without taskbar, much later a grey taskbar shows up, dog slow) but the network does work. Most of the time it doesn't have any network connection (aquiring IP address) An additional piece of info (perhaps worthless), a mon... Read more

I own several computers. Some PC's and a mid-2010 iMac 27 inch. Windows 10 upgrade worked fine on my PC's. After I signed up for the upgrade on my iMac Bootcamp running Windows 7 Ultimate, Apple announced it will not support my particular iMac version. I
have tried to no avail to stop the Windows 10 upgrade, which has failed several times. I have uninstalled Windows updates associated with the upgrade: KB 3035583, KB 3033929, and KB2952664, and hidden them in Windows Update. Any suggestions as to how to stop
Windows 10 upgrade? Any work around to install the upgrade on my iMac?

Thanks, Jeff

My nephew got on my computer last night and guess what??? I now have a hijacker. It is similar to some other posts. I tried that but ran into a dead-end. The problem is:

My wallpaper is that big red bio-hazard symbol, the message "YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER. DOWNLOAD PRIVACY PROTECTION SOFTWARE NOW" is displayed, and the desktop cannot be changed by right-clicking it (it has essentially become one big button surface).

Then after a while, ominous warnings appear concerning spyware and trojans. When I cancel those messages, IE automatically launches and goes to sites that try to get me to buy WinAntiVirus Pro 2007, Ultimate Cleaner, Ultimate Defender, etc.

I have a 3 year old Dell workstation running Win XP Home; Here is the HiJackThis log:

Hi, bradmcsd.

Welcome to TSG.

Your Java seems to be out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Vundofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
You will receive a me... Read more
