Want to uninstall Avast and install Avira (seamlessly)

Q: Want to uninstall Avast and install Avira (seamlessly)

I have Avast on my machine and would like to make a clean transition to Avira to avoid leftover traces. Any advice appreciated!

A: Want to uninstall Avast and install Avira (seamlessly)

Hello there,You will want to uninstall Avast the 'normal' way - via Programs & Features in Control Panel. If the installation process failed for some reason, use Avast Clear to remove it instead. Then install Avira.A word of advice: If you want to use Avira's Web Protection, do NOT remove the Avira Toolbar under all circumstances!Hope this helps.Regards,AlexEDIT: Emsisoft products do not target the Avira Toolbar... not sure about MBAM and other AMs - but probably not, since it'll break Avira.

but AVG will install, what's up with that? ive scanned my computer for viruses with AVG and SUPERantispyware, they only find tracking cookies?

If you need to know, I'm running comodo firewall (but wasn't was running windows when trying to install the things I listed) and I'm currently running AVG

A:Avira refused to update, so I uninstalled and attempted to install Avast! but it failed...

If you uninstalled Avira via Add/Remove Programs only, you might still want to run Avira's uninstall tool to be sure it has 100% uninstalled all tidbits scattered on your drive and in the registry to avoid possible future issues. Here's a link to the uninstall tool download site:http://www.avira.com/en/support/av7_upgrade_tools.htmlAfter running the uninstall tool, Avast probably would have installed OK for you. I run Avast and it sure is quick to notice those remnants of previous antivirus programs during installation. It just thought you might have two AV's on your system------a definite no-no. The AVG, if you're happy with it, could yet encounter problems if there are bits of Avira still in your registry or lurking elsewhere on your pc. I'd definitely run that Avira uninstall tool just to be sure. You might even want to do a search on keyword AVIRA and see if you have any files/folders Avira left, too, and delete them.

I am trying to find a new free antivirus thing for my computer and I have heard positive things about these two. I saw on one website that one was better than the other and then the complete opposite on another. Is one truly better or is it more preference?

Which one is more of a resource hog because I would like to keep my computer as speedy as possible.

Thanks!

I am looking to try an new antivirus program and have narrowed it down to Avast or Avira. I am hoping that I can get some feedback based on user experiences

Any feedback would be appreciated

A:Avast or Avira

http://www.av-comparatives.org/Try then both, careefully uninstalling each totally as you switch. What works well for one user may not fit your system in the same way.I've used both and like both. Avast has a funky non-windows-like interface and uses proxy port which you will need to lock down in the firewall.Antivir has a splash screen aka buy-me nag every update which is very rough to disable. But then if we don't pay ...So now you have a summary of totally unimportant features

Is it smart, or even worth it, to install the following:
Avast 5 (Real time Shields and All)
Avira 10 (NO Real time Shield, ON DEMAND only)
ZoneAlarm Free
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Free
SpywareBlaster

Would that be practically a sure fire no-malware security "suite"? (I don't mean 100%, but pretty good)

A:Avira + Avast 5 + ZoneAlarm

It is pretty difficult to install Avira for only on demand scans. You will have to change the startup types of all the services and everything. It isn't worth it. I would just keep Avast with the real-time protection and run an online scan such as ESET OnlineScan as a second opinion.

I keep recieving this virus warning from avira saying this
TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen found in
C:\Documents and Settings\mylastname\Local Settings\Temp\_avast4_\unp187084161.tmp

Notice: AVAST4
I recently downloaded avast is avast infected or is this one of those false positives i hear about and by deleting it / quarantining it will i break avast

A:Avira Claims Avast

That is a temp file in a temp user folder. The file may be deleted outright and you should be ok.Make sure that your system does not have both of Avira and Avast as being actively monitoring the system or both starting with Windows. You may have more than 1 AV installed, but that means you must do the extra work to insure that not all of them are active at the same time----- that's to say, only one program as the resident monitor. ok?If you do not know how, or if it is too confusing, decide on which AV you want to keep and un-install the other. Having 2 (or more) active AVs gives you less protection and definitely adds to conflicts.

Many independent av test labs are showing different results about different anitiviruses. But in real world, users have different experiences. I will be glad if you share your experiences about those 4 antiviruses.

A:MSE,avast! Free, avira or avg-which one is better as per your experience.

Those kinds of comparative testing results will vary depending on a variety of factors to include but not limited to who conducted the testing, what they were testing for (type of threats, attack vectors, exploits), what versions of anti-virus software was tested, what type of scanning engine was used, and the ability to clean or repair. There are no universally predefined set of standards or criteria for testing which means each test will yield different results. As such, you need to look for detailed information about how the tests were conducted, the procedures used, and data results. You ask a common question for which you will receive varying opinions and recommendations. Here are links to some recent BC discussion topics with opinions from other members:* What is the best antivirus protection?* What's the best premium security suite in the market currently?* Recommend a good free antivirus program* Which antivirus and malware programs should I use together?* Antivirus Solution?

Recent postings here from some users seem to indicate that the current version of MSE is quite good. I was thinking of using either Avast or Avira, but if MSE really is as good at detection and removal then I thought I'd give it a try first. Anyone try all three recently? The reports I've found online still seem to show MSE as not quite as good.

Nevermind. I did more searching and found more info. I'm going to try MSE, SpywareBlaster, and MAMB (which I already use).

Good move. Strictly from a BSOD perspective MSE causes much less than Avira, or Avast.

Hey guys, I'd like to know which of these two antivirus would recommend? After I upgrade to Windows 10 I'm having a few issues with Avast. I think it's related with me having VirtualBox installed, since they seem to be lessened/go away whenever I uninstall it. Maybe it's some conflict because Avast also packages VirtualBox as the virtual machine hypervisor for its sandboxing/behavioral blocking component. It has been hard to determine because the problems seem mostly to be random explorer.exe freezes and crashes, which are hard to test and reproduce consistently but that are very annoying. Nevertheless, this is not the first time that Avast has let me down by buying a bit buggy and by "messing" a bit with my system, so I guess that I want to leave it behind for now.

That said... I'm thinking about leaving Avast alone, at least temporarily. Turning myself to one of the other "classic" free antivirus, Avira or AVG, was what immediately came to my mind. So I took a look at a few tests (e.g., AV-Comparatives and AV-TEST), reviews and opintions by Googling and came to realize that Avira seems to be a superior product. It seems better in every way, except that it seems to lack any kind of behavioral blocker, such as Avast DeepScreen and AVG Identity Protection. Avira is a purely signature based antivirus with an heuristics engine that runs some static analysis, it has no dynamic analysis that runs a suspicious file through a dynamic beh... Read more

As many other people in the MalwareTips forums use Qihoo 360 Total Security (Free program) I would recommend that. However if you plan on using Qihoo then make sure you have either the BitDefender or Avira engine enabled in the settings, not the standard QVM engine as that is subpar compared to the others

i have happily used avast free anti-virus as my primary tool, together with malwarebytes as secondary security layer.
recently, I read avira is a better anti-virus engine than avast, but it's features weren't quite as pro-active- more reactive (I don't know if this is true or not, or how to phrase it better technically).
but for this reason, of this understanding, I downloaded avira free anti-virus which I intended to use as secondary security layer- ie. run manually maybe once a week to confirm the real-time avast protection.
however, avira seems to turn itself on every reboot, which is not desirable (I understand that running both real-time may unnecessarily slow-down the computer performance, etc.).
how can I turn-off avira until needed?

secondly, once I installed avira, my windows defender now says it's turned-off...any relation?

thank you

A:avira-avast-windows defender

Yes, Windows Defender is turned off by either Avira, Avast and most other 3rd party AntiVirus programs.
You can disable Avira Protection[s] in msconfig, I don't have file name[s], not at home.
I too run one antivirus program's real time protection[s], and the other only runs scheduled scans.

I have yet another antivirus question as I still haven't decided what antivirus I'm going to install. I was pretty set on Avast until I saw on a few websites that Avira AntiVir has better virus detection than avast as well as less of an impact on system performance. Does anyone out there know if this is actually the case? I would like to go for the most secure option with the least impact on the system. Thank you for any help!

A:Avira AntiVir better virus detection than Avast?

Yes. The information is right. Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic has far higher detection rates than Avast. Also, it is very light on system resources. You can take this for sure. You will never regret your decision of installing Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Classic. Here are two links to support my statement.

Hi all!!! It's been a while since I have posted anything. I have a quick question. I have been using Avast for over 2 years and have been very happy with it. The problem is Avast is getting pretty old. (in my mind) I downloaded and installed Avira Antivir Free Personal in one of my Vm's today and was pretty satisfied with the UI and features. The one thing that bothered me was that there was no feature to password protect my settings like there was in Avast. (even the free version) This is one of the things that is deterring me away from using Avira, since I have four other family members who could easily screw around with some settings. Another thing is that according to the Avira features list on their website it doesn't have some features that Avast has. (and i am not talking about the p2p shield, email scanner, online email scanner) If any one who has used both of these security products can tell me which one was better for them I would really appreciate it. The main thing is password protecting the settings.

Have a great day

Does anyone know how to get offline installs of Avast Pro Anti-Virus?  I think if I simply install the latest greatest, my settings will be saved [I hope!] and I will avoid the dll missing error.

I recently purchased a Norton security product and before that I had Avira free security. When I was using Avira, I often had trouble starting the computer and often had to perform what I think is called a "hard reset" (sometimes 4 or 5 times). Since getting Norton, that problem seems to have gone away. Before I installed Norton I wanted to uninstall Avira, and all went well until the restart, when again it wouldn't start. Now upon startup, I get a window that says it can't find Avira. I have used Revo uninstaller but it can't find any files to remove. Ive seen some files that belong to Avira but when I try to delete them manually it doesn't work ( I forget the message). I just tried to download Avira again, and it can't remove it original program ( something about can't determine the feature control file.) It suggests a manual uninstall. I've looked at the registry though regedit and see about 19 files that belong to Avira, but can't remove them. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve

First time here, I'm hoping I've posted this in the appropriate area.
OS: Windows 7
So some time ago I was using the windows recovery feature for a menial task as a short cut and upon the computers reboot i was greeted with a message that stated that the recovery failed most likely due to some antivirus interference. It informed me to deactivate the software temporarily and I did but was greeted with the same result. In an act of supreme lack of foresight and exhaustion in the wee hours of the morning, I decided it would be a good idea to uninstall Avira and immediately begin another system recovery with out rebooting the system first. It did not like this. After the recovery i was met with a black screen with white text (i assume bios) that told me windows could not be started due to some change in hardware or software and to a windows repair. After failing to understand how to do this I started up windows normally and tried to undo the recovery and the damage. At this point it all becomes a haze and at some point I was getting an {Error: 7} from avira. It said it couldn’t read a file of some sort. This would occur when uninstalling and installing in normal and safe mode. Eventually i found the program Revo Uninstaller Pro which I ran with admin privileges in safe mode and was able to remove most of the Avira files from my computer, except for the Avira>Avira Desktop folder which was empty. I attempted again to reinstall Avira to get things back to normal but ... Read more

I downloaded and uninstalled the free version of Avira AV (was using Microsoft Security Essentials). It would not update properly, so I decided to uninstall it. I used Revo Uninstaller (advanced mode). After the uninstall I rebooted and Avira is still there. It does not appear in the Control Panel/Programs & Features and it is not in the list of programs in the start menu. I also downloaded and ran the Avira registry cleaner, which removed some registry items but left several others.

I could use some help in getting rid of this.

A:I cannot uninstall Avira Free AV

I think I solved it on my own. I re-installed the Avira AV over what was on my computer. This gave me a screen that gave me the option to remove the program, which I did. UI then ran the Avira registry cleaner again and was able to delete the remaining Avira related registry items.

Hi,

This looks like a wonderful resource.

I have a problem where every time I use the net (iexplorer/firefox/safari) I am being redirected to strange sites, sometimes where they run a 'fake' virus scan and I have to end the program in task manager.

Also there are problems uninstalling programs i.e. after restart the computer doesn't get past loading stage no matter how long it is left (went out for 5 hours). Sometimes the computer won't boot up at all, even in safe mode, but 'last known good configuration' does always work.

Sometimes on restart the network icon at the bottom left never appears.

Note I created an empty folder in C:\sccfg.sys because there was a suspicious file in there which kept coming back after deletion.

I tried all the programs in the thread title and none can find anything. They are now all uninstalled except McAfee (and possibly a-squared but its not running). I have also 'Hijack This' installed incase.

I do have access to my Windows Vista boot disk.

I believe I have followed the instructions for this forum.

Thank You:

Hello. I cloned my system a few days ago because my old hard drive was about to crash. Yesterday, I finished restoring my backup using Redo Backup & Recovery. After realigning my partitions using the Hitachi Align Tool I logged back into Windows. Avira Antivir Premium 2012 refuses to turn on the Web Protection (which I turned on) and Mail Protection (which I don't use). I've heard that the program can have conflicts with Spybot and SpywareBlaster but I figured that was just FUD since the company who put out the latter said it wasn't true.
To uninstall Avira, I tried following the instructions on their site (http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=117274 and http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=117323 ) but when I tried to run the uninstaller I was told it could not start and I would need to uninstall manually. Notably my mouse cursor is periodically loading and in the Task Manager I see many entries of update.exe. I think these were caused by updrgui.exe which is listed in the Task Manager as Avira Updater remote GUI. Now I'm not sure what's going on. Any help would be much appreciated because I do not have the time right now to reformat my system and start over.

Hi, I'm new on this forum, I live in Colombia and I need help to uninstall Avira, but I know a partial solution to my problem.

I've being trying hard to remove the AV, because neither with Revo nor from the crontol panel is possilble to remove Avira, because Avira does not respond (and appears a system message at the beginning of each session with the title AVGcenter.exe that notifies that the application not opened properly and click to close)
In the Remove Programs panel, besides Avira, there are two other programs: Avira Free Search Toolbar webprotection and Avira Free Search Toolbar webprotection updater, where Ask.com appears as editor of the same.

Consulting, I think this is the correct method to remove it manually:

1) Download Avira Regcleaner
2) In safe mode, delete the Avira files in Programs Files (x86) and Data Programs.
3) Run the Regcleaner, first solving the problems of compatibility, since this tool works for Windows XP and I have 7 home basic, and then to run as administrator.

The other settings I found it on this website:

Even I read that it is advisable to run several times the Regcleaner, then reboot and all is going to be supposedly fixed, but my problem is that when I try to delete the ... Read more

0xc0000142 is an installer error. "Application Failed To Initialize 0xc0000142" Error.
The other error 0xc000007b can mean that you have or tried to install a 64bit program on a 32bit platform.

You may be infected with a virus that can corrupt a anti virus program rendering it useless Or had corrupted your system interiorly. I would recommend going to the "Virus Help" link in my signature. Currently I have free versions of Avast & Avira installed. I suspect Avira is not working properly though it resists all my attempts to completely uninstall it. I've used Revo's uninstaller. Revo shows two icons; one for Avira & one for Avira Free Antivirus. In Vista's control panel Programs & Features it has the same two icons. The Control Panel page shows an icon for Avira Free Antivirus. In Program Files there is an Avira folder w/two folders; AntiVirDesktop & My Avira.

Whatever is on my laptop it's very persistent. Thanks in advance for any help with removal.

How do I uninstall my Avira product?Instructions for manual uninstallation of AviraIt is not uncommon for some anti-virus programs to not completely uninstall itself using the usual method of Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs due to the presence of related services and processes running in the background. Sometimes the uninstall works more effectively if you first stop and disable the program's service (and associated processes) or perform the removal in safe mode so there are less processes which can interfere with the uninstallation. In many cases anti-virus vendors also provide clean-up utilities on their web sites to remove remnants left behind after unintalling or for a failed uninstall so always check there first.Avira Download Center: Avira RegistryCleaner <- removes all registry entries (leftovers) created by Avira productsAvira RegistryCleaner DownloadAlso see the IMPORTANT NOTE about not using more than one anti-virus program in this topic: Choosing an Anti-Virus Program

Sorry if this is not the right place.

The past hour ago I upgraded to avast 7, after window booted up and logged in everything was normal until I clicked my browser (firefox) then my laptop started slowing down and i could not connect to the internet, so I disabled the firewall that avast installed in version 7 (I already had my own firewall) to see if it was a conflicting problem, nope it wasn't the two firewll causing my laptop to lockup.

So the problem has to be avast 7, first off I try ed to do a system restore no luck, system restore is refusing or has trouble loading so I cant do a previous restore.

Right time to try uninstall avast, nope I'm just getting this message 'Please wait until the current program is finished uninstalling or being changed' so im stuck with a laptop that wont do anything.

Does anyone know how I can uninstall avast or get restore point to work?

Uninstall our software using avastclear
Sometimes it's not possible to uninstall Avast the standard way - using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel. In this case, you can use our uninstallation utility avastclear.
Download avastclear.exe on your desktop
Start Windows in Safe Mode
Open (execute) the uninstall utility
If you installed Avast in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
Click REMOVE
Restart your computer

Hello,

I just recently completed a clean re-install on my laptop and the first thing I did was install Zone Alarm as a Firewall. Then, I tried installing Avast! as my AV, and it seemed fine. I did a computer scan, then my computer rebooted. After that, I tried to re-open Avast! and my computer crashed. I rebooted, and it crashed again. Then I tried to unistall it, and my computer just froze. After that, I tried running in safe mode to uninstall, and my computer just froze again...

Please help! I think I might have to do another clean re-install, but I'm not sure...

Hello,

Hopefully someone can help me with this problem as I unfortunately have a lot of documents on this hard drive that would be quite devastating to lose.

I uninstalled Avast anti-virus software because it seemed like it was hogging too much of a % of my CPU and slowing things down.  At the end of the uninstall an Avast box popped up and said I would need to reboot in order to remove all files, so I did.  Well, I should say I tried.  Instead of booting back to Windows it took me to a repair screen that ran and then stated Windows was unable to fix the problem.  I click OK and it boots right back to the same place.  I ran CHK DSK and it doesn't show any corrupt files.

Doing a little research I found that several people seemed to have this problem after uninstalling AVAST.  So I downloaded Far Bar and ran it.  As far as I can tell (with my limited knowledge) the only problems are:

C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\volsnap.sys IS MISSING <==== ATTENTION
C:\Windows\System32\codeintegrity\Bootcat.cache IS MISSING <==== ATTENTION

So it looks like I am missing those two files?  I'm just not sure how to resolve this problem or make a repair file Farbar.  Here is the full text results from my Farbar scan.  Thank you in advance......Sam

In Services, any changes to Avast services (disable) are not possible due to permissions.

This is not my system, rather a friends that I'm assisting. I've never encountered anything like this - being prevented from uninstalling, deleting or stopping services. (I've tried as Safe Mode admin). Is this typical for Avast, or is there a something exotic going on here?

I installed Avast internet security earlier on Windows XP Home SP/2 and found it so bad that I had to uninstall it because it was messing up my system, which is too slow to begin with (Only 400 mHz!) anyways, I couldn't uninstall it from Add/Remove Software so I decided to download an uninstall application directly from Avast. This application took about 10 seconds (compared to the 20 minute install) and later a security balloon keeps popping up from the icon tray that avast is out of date. I've read in the pinned topic "List of Antivirus Uninstallers and Removal Tools > Antivirus removal tools"  at the top of this section about antivirus removal and It says to always use add/remove to uninstall programs from the computer. But when I go to the Avast site it says that the preferred method of uninstalling is to use their uninstall utillity. I'd like to say that I'm not having any issues with Avast nor am I unhappy with the product. I'm uninstalling because I want to try the free trials of Kaspersky and BitDefender and make a decision after that.

I've read a few times across multiple forums of people having problems uninstalling Avast so before I start I would like some feedback on which process I should go through to have the best chance of uninstalling without problems. I'm using Vista if this info is needed. Thanks

A:How do I uninstall Avast Antivirus Free 2015 properly?

Hi there,The Avast uninstall utility (AvastClear) is only to be used if the uninstallation of Avast products go wrong and left behind remnants on the system.I do suggest that you uninstall it the normal way using Programs and Features - preferably in Safe Mode since the service will not be running and less likely to leave behind trash. If it refuses to uninstall in Safe Mode (programs that depended on the Windows MSI service to uninstall will not work), do a clean boot and uninstall Avast from there. After that run AvastClear.Hope this answers your questions.Regards,Alex

I was having problems with Avast free edition. It was detecting a problem when doing a root scan but wouldn't allow me to see the results. After doing a search, it appeared that I just had a corrupt Avast install and it was recommended that I uninstall it via the control panel, reboot in safe mode and run their second uninstall program that's supposed to make sure everything is removed, and then reinstall Avast. The uninstall proceeded to where the progress bar appeared to show it was complete but it seemed stuck on finishing the final step so I foolishly did a forced reboot. I have two wireless routers set up in my home running on different SSIDs. When i use the same ssid on both routers it doesn't seem to siwtch to strongest signal. One other bit of info -- one access point is 2.4ghz wireless G the other is a dual band (2.4 and 5ghz) wireless N.

A:Seamlessly Switch to best Network Connection

That's the difference between consumer-grade wifi equipment and the premium stuff which costs big bikkies. The latter can seamlessly "roam" when a user moves through an office building with her laptop, always establishing an association between the wireless NIC and the WAP with the currently strongest signal.

What you want is probably impractical unless your wifi NIC drivers export "accessor" functions which would allow your code to poll for or subscribe to events corresponding to significant signal strength changes. Then you'd have to code the solution yourself (unless the NIC manufacturer already provides a utility or sample code), and that would be far from a trivial exercise.

A:How do I seamlessly swap a raid card?

Seamless? Probably not.

Here's something that will probably work, but it's not seamless. Install the Silicon Image raid drivers on the current setup. Do an Image backup with something like Acronis True Image or Norton GHOST to a non-RAID drive. Install the new RAID controller, restore the image back to the new RAID array, and boot up.

I've installed a couple of RAID systems by first installing the O/S onto a non-RAID drive, then GHOSTing it to the RAID array after the fact. Worked just fine...

I just wanted to know how I can tile this image seamlessly. Is there some type of free software that would do it for me?

I installed Arduino software, part of which included installing a number of drivers. I uninstalled the software using the internal software uninstall feature. Apparently it removed the drivers, but for some reason they still show up in the Windows install/uninstall list. I try to uninstall them using the Windows uninstaller, but I get an error stating that the drivers are not there (at that address). The problem is, I cannot re-install the drivers, because for some reason they still show as being installed by the Windows installer and the software refuses to re-install.

So, how do I remove a file name from the install/uninstall list on Windows 10? A file name for a file that is already deleted?

Thanks!

Max

A:Cannot Uninstall Drivers from Install/Uninstall List - Windows 10

Hi, Geek uninstaller (free) offers a range of removal options if you right click an entry.

However, you may have parts of the program left over.

1. Does the program's site offer a manual uninstaller or uninstall instruction?
2. Check the various folders that may have been created when you installed it for leftovers.
(Try Locate32 (free) - let it index all your files then you can quickly check for anything related to the name of your program on a find-as -you-type basis).
If you find any exe's left over, then use
Revo (free)
to force uninstall these.

Your problem will be knowing if anything is left over that you don't want.

Finally you can search the registry.
Try Regscanner (free) as this lists all found unlike Regedit which is 1 by 1.

Create a system restore point or back up your registry and delete remnants.

Good luck!

Right, so. My sis got a computer a couple of days ago. We're both very new to vista, but I'm a bit more of a comp wonk, so when it started to bug up a little, I thought I'd play around with it to get a handle on the system.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting a handle on the system. It's not my computer, so I can't tell you every spec right now, and I don't even have access to it at the moment. So this thread is, for now, a bit of a hail-mary pass. If the problem is recognizable enough to diagnose from my scant details, awesome. If not, I'll post them as I discern them.

That being said, the problem is this; as far as my tests have led me to believe, in full screen games only, my sound lags. Usually during cut-scenes, but sometimes during gameplay itself. But the thing is, it's strangely seamless. There's no crackle or distortion. A slight pause, and then the sound cuts off while the video goes on. After about 7-12 seconds, the sound comes back right where it left off, only now the video is obviously out of sync with it.

It's a 32 bit os, multicore processor, 4 gigs ram, Nvidia 7600 GT card. Every driver is up to date unless I made a mistake with the updating processes, and the audio chipset is the intel soundmax hd audio(I couldn't find any drivers for this chipset, so it's probably running at out of box drivers. The auto update told me they were up to date, but I've never trusted that thing, sooo.)

Thanks for reading if you've made it down this far. Ordinar... Read more

A:My audio is lagging seamlessly in fullscreen games

You should uninstall the audio drivers and then google them for the latest, Microsoft won't always detect the latest drivers. Also check your event log when you get a chance and see if it mentions anything about driver performance. You can also check this in the performance panel of the Contreol Panel.

o.k. background of the situation:

Mt pc had been very sluggish doing anything (yes everything including for example, taking 15 seconds to delete very small file),

I have run sereral AVs - malwarebytes iobit, avg, avira, avast, and sysinternals process utilities.

iobit uninstaller was hanging when uninstalling AVira. It would complete using the program's own installer, but hang when deep cleaning.

I manually used windows explorer to delete the Avira folders. Some items could be deleted but not others. I noticed 52,000 update log files for Avira, by looking at the name of the log files, saw that Avira was trying to update evry couple seconds unsuccessfully and writing a log file every time.I am unanble to end the update processes in taskmanager and the administrator command prompt "taskkill" onlky gets some of them, but the process rejuvenates immediately.

I researched and read that recently Avira changed so that a user could not disable automatic updates.

2 thoughts:
1. Reinstall Avira so I can stop the auto updates

2. Download a program to zap any process.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

Hi guys. I got such great assistance with my wife's laptop last month now I humbly come back with an issue concerning my grandmother's computer. It is simply running crazy slow. I booted it into safe mode and it runs just fine. Almost no stutters...however when it boots normal it will take nearly 8 minutes to get to a point where you can move the mouse. Then you have to wait for the program to load. I have installed and updated spybot sd and it found a handful of problems, none appeared to be too nasty. I then ran MBAM and it came back clean. Skeptical I booted into safe mode w/networking and ran the eSet online scanner which also showed nothing.

Should I try running this again when it is booted into windows normally and see if it gives me anything different?

I have tried installing Avira but it simply disappears just as the progress bar hits 100 percent. I even tried installing AVG and it gets darn near to the end there as well and then terminates. Seems kinda fishy to me...

I appreciate any help you give me...this just ends up a tad outside my realm of expertise.

If it means anything, her live in son plays lots of internet games. I am thinking he may have snagged something there but everything looks fine on the outside. Lemme know what to do.

Thanks,

Mike

After two weeks without anyone dropping a line in response to my problem I've decided to try to find a solution at another site if possible. No sense keeping this thread bookmarked if it's just taking up server space.

A:Failure to install Avira

Hello kennylim,

First, in case you weren't aware, Windows XP is currently End Of Life and it will have no more security updates. But if you're already aware of that, see the below:

It looks like you're running XP with Service Pack 2! The latest service pack for XP is SP3. I would suggest you update to Service Pack 3 asap (an SP2 system is extremely vulnerable to malware attacks)! You can do so from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24

If you cannot install SP3, then there may be a possible problem with WGA. This may be preventing you from installing that service pack.
Please download MGADiag and save it to your desktop.
Double click the icon on your desktop.
Click Continue
Click Copy
Go to Start -> Run and type in "Notepad"
Go to Edit -> Paste in notepad.
x out all of the numbers and letters in the line beginning with "Windows Product Key:"
Copy and paste that log here.
==========

Aside from that, it looks like you might need to also update your .NET Framework for the Avira installation to be successful. This is worth a try if you cannot update to SP3.

====================

Either way, post back the results of the MGA diagnostic in your next reply and let us know how it goes.

Hi guys
I'm having trouble updating Avira and I worry that my laptop may be unprotected until I can sort this out.
Years ago I used to use Zonealarm as it was considered the best free antivirus/firewall but as it was improved and developed, my laptop came to a grinding halt as it couldn't cope with the memory consumption of Zonealarm.
I had a hunt around for an alternative solution and decided upon Comodo firewall combined with Avira.
I was recently prompted to update Avira which I tried to do but was prompted to remove Zonealarm as it was incompatible.
Now, I did remove Zonealarm before but as this was telling me to remove it now I figured there may still be some file or .dll on my system so I downloaded Clean.exe from checkpoint and ran it and rebooted and tried Avira install again but it tells me to remove Zonealarm still. Although I knew it would make little difference, I have gone through this process 3 times with no success.
Because of my attempted update of Avira, it actually removes the existing version before it updates and so now I have no anti virus protection until this can be sorted.
I dont have a problem with using Avira (apart from this one obviously,) however I'm open to suggestions if the recommendation is to use an alternative, or, I need to remove whatever it is that makes it think I still have Zonealarm on my machine.

Im using Windows XP on an IBM T30 with a Pentium 4M 2Gig processor with 1Gb of ram.

Many thanks

Regards

Ian

Hi,I started experiencing some problems with my Vista notebook which began with a notice that appeared on the desktop when the computer started that said that the avira antivirus exe file was not accesible or something. I was unable to uninstall it at first, but then I went to a few forums and found a way to uninstall in safe mode.Later I downloaded the setup file from avira again but now I cannot install due to an error that says:C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\RarSFX0\basic\setup.exe has been changedFollowing Garmanma's request I followed the steps on the Prep Guide For Use before Posting a Hijackthis Log except I could not get DDS to run properly, it only produced a huge notepad page full of random symbols. I am looking for a way to run a particular program as the Domain Admin without the users seeing any prompt for username or password. Any script would do, I can put the users that need it into another group and have that group have its own logon script or just run it locally upon startup. We are running XP workstations on a Windows domain network.

A:Runas Domain Admin for a program seamlessly everytime

You need it to run as Domain Admin or as a Local Admin. Domain Admin would probably be really bad policy.

I think EPAL can do what you need, but I'm not totally sure.

Pros:
both offer great protection if tweak optimally.

Cons:
Avast! - I don't like their UI.
Avira - I hate the launcher.

My computer got infected with something last night (I was using avira free) and it seemed to wipe out everything. Instead of trying to fix it, I did a restore with backup (not sure if I'm using the right words).

Now I'm trying to install avira free antivirus but it says I need Windows XP 32 SP3, Windows XP 64 LP2 or Window Server 2003 SP2. When I look at what I have for Windows, it says I have version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Serivce pack 2)

Last year when someone here had me restore back to factory setting, I was able to install avira. I've tried several times now with no luck.

Hi guys, I read a previous topic which was pretty similar to the problem I am having here but wanted someone to help me directly as its a computer I use for business and has some important stuff on it.

I wouldn't say I'm the most computer literate person in the world or I wouldnt be posting on here but I do share this computer with someone who is usually trigger happy when it comes to clicking 'yes' after a pop up saying YOU ARE INFECTED appears.

A quick description of what is going on

Norton was installed on the computer (much to my horror) and I think it lead to a few problems in itself.. Windows updates would not install successfully, the computer wasnt shutting down properly. The firefox homepage was changed to a website called snap.do which I finally managed to delete. I am trying to download and install Avira onto the system but it wont let me install it at all and just gets stuck on the installation part. I have downloaded malwarebytes and again it wont even let me open it when I double click the icon on the desktop. I read on a previous thread about a program called ESET Online Scanner so i am currently downloading that and am going to run a scan on the computer once it is finished.

Just wanted some help if possible guys.

Really appreciate the time you've taken to read this post and hope you can help me find a way round this.

So, I go to weigh in on Weight Watchers online and I'm greeted with a message that says I need Adobe flash player 9 or higher installed in order to use their weight tracker.  I noticed when I booted up that a new version of Adobe had been installed automatically. But no updated flash player?  So, I go to this website:  http://www.downloadinfo.co/review/adobe-flash-player/?kw=adobe%27s+flash+player&subid=DIAFUS&cust=adobe%27s+flash+player&type=flash&gclid=CNumj6K6zLUCFYk7Mgody2QApg&utm_campaign=DIAFUS&fwd=1

and proceed to download the Non IE version since I have google chrome browser.  and I'm greeted by my free Avira antivirus software's message that it's detected an unwanted Adware software and I cannot proceed.

does anyone have any idea how I get around this? Everything worked fine until Adobe updated the software automatically.

thank you.

either right click your virus program and set up rules for this download and installation or temporarily disable the virus program then install.

Dear reader,

today i tried to install Avira AntiVir personal free edition. During the process of installing this msg was shown.

"""A secure internet connection is required to activate the product (SSL encrypted). This could not be established. Please address the following issues and repeat the product activation.

-Ensure that the internet can be accessed
-Ensure that the system date is correct
-If in use, check your modem connection
-Ensure that the application fact.exe can access the internet and is not blocked by a firewall"""

this was the msg shown. to rectify this i turned off the firewall, but to no avail. I am able to access the internet without any trouble. the modem connection is fine, i checked that using ping on command prompt. the system date and time is accurate too.
i use Google Chrome on Windows Xp SP2. kindly tell me how to rectify this situation.

thanking you.
terence

A:Can't install Avira AntiVirus Personal Free Edition

Is the date and time correct in the lower right-hand corner?
You might need to adjust it in the BIOS
If it continues to lose time you might need to replace the CMOS battery

Updated: Prior to submitting my post I was intrigued by the fact Avira Launcher is mandatory for Avira Antivirus.

"Avira Launcher is an important component of the protection package. Therefore, starting with the latest update, Avira Antivirus Pro as well as all the other Avira products require Avira Launcher installed to ensure their functionality at full potential and to stay permanently connected to the Avira Online Essentials Dashboard."

To use Avira Antivirus, you are NOT required to create an Avira Account, but you are forced to use Avira Launcher, and not all products under the Launcher are free to download without an Avira Account.

In my opinion, Avira should allow users without an Avira Account to remove Avira Launcher from their systems.

Original: Statement retracted following updated infomation.
Reading the comments about Avira 2017 being bundled with bloatware (Avira Launcher, Phantom VPN and Speedup demo), there is a way to download Avira Free Antivirus Free without the other software with a few extra clicks.

Go to Avira Downloads from the Support tab.

Free Downloads of Avira Antivirus Software & Utilities
Click on More Versions for either Avira Free software.

Included packages will be listed under Product Installation Files and there you can click on the download for Avira Antivirus (221MB). It should start automatically.

If not, direct download here:
