Nvidia kernel mode driver 344.65 and NvOAWrapperCache.exe

Q: Nvidia kernel mode driver 344.65 and NvOAWrapperCache.exe

Hello whoever reads this call for help.
Since some time I have two reoccuring errors that just wont stop annoying me.
1. From time to time the screens turns black and I get the message that the Nvidia Kernel mode driver 344.65 crashed and was restarted.
This problem occured first. It happens sometimes when I am playing games, but not everytime. Sometimes it even crashes when I am just browsing the internet (less then 5 tabs) and run (as far as I know) no other programs.
Some users seem to have that problem, but the forums of Nvidia seem to remain without attention from the developers site.
2. Nvidias NvOAWrapperCache.exe is apparently not compatible with the 64 bit version of Windows and can't start/ run (so the error message).
This keeps popping up whenever I do something. If I don't close the error text, apparently nothing happens.
I was not able to find a lot about this problem, but finally I found a thread on your forum where fireman4it apparently solved a similar problem. Unfortunatly I was not able to follow his way to solve the problem because FRST64 obviously gave me a different log. But since I am not sure, if this is the right thing for me to do in the first place, I want to ask if someone here could please find the time to try to help me and tell me what I could do.
(I am sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes. English is not my first language, but I try to do my best.)

If you are saying...that a topic in the Malware Removal Logs section...resolved your problem...I'd have to guess that you are either wrong in your assumption or you are infected.
To get a look and some clarification, I am moving topic to Am I Infected.
Can you please post the link to the topic where you believe Fireman4it assisted with the problem resolution?
Thanks .

I was working with an audio recording software just now when I faced this error (in the subject line). The screen blacked for 10 seconds or so and then came back.

Also, I faced similar errors when I was using Power Point and a screen recorder software but the error was a bit different nvlkdm has stopped working. Also, I had just installed IE 9 beta (hardware acceleration), opened the first site and the system crashed and I had to do a hard reboot and unistall IE 9 to save my life from such errors again. The errors are just random. The nVidia drivers are downloaded the official nVidia and are the latest available for my DELL XPS M1530 with 8600M GT. (OS Win 7 Ultimate 32bit)

I also got two BSOD's at different time with a message saying:
"Unable to reset the display. A problem occured with the display driver driver"
I noted this error code on the blue screen
000000x16 nvlddmkm.sys
Dumping physical memory etc. etc.

There are no Minidumps being formed in Windows/Minidump (I just enabled them now), so I wasn't able to post any of them :-|
All temperatures normal, RAM test with Windows Memory Diagnostic/memtest/DELL Diagnostics pass, no overclocking.
However, I perfomed the stability test with Furmark for my grpahics acrd and the display started flickering with dots. Earlier when I installed the driver and had the performed the stability, it had ran absolutely fine for more than 20 min.
I read somewhere it can be an issue of Windows Update KB24548... Read more

"display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver version 332.21 stopped responding and has recovered"

Hello and thanks in advance for your help.

I am using a Dell XPS 8300 computer with the following specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
64 Bit OS
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Dell has attempted to help me with this problem. Prior to having this error pop up on my screen the computer would just have a blank screen at start up after the dell logo then the windows logo appeared. They had me run the computer in safe mode with networking and they have uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled them, they ran CCleaner and fixed all registry errors/cleaned out temporary files, they installed and ran Windows Security Essentials and got rid of any malware. Finally, they decided to send me a new graphics card. They had a technician come install the new card and run a diagnostic test and update all drivers. Everything seemed to be fine but when I opened a game on the system that uses the more intense graphics, the screen went blank again. I have not played any games since but while browsing the internet at random times, I get the error message from the title of this post. The screen will go blank for a few seconds then reappear with that message. I have tried to do some research and have found that the error is probably something called TDR. However, I am not an expert and I am clueless. Please l... Read more

Hello everyone! I tried posting this in the graphics card forum, but haven't had any responses so I thought I would try here seeing as how it may be a driver issue.
I've been having an issue with my GPU recently, and I'm at an absolute stand still as to what the issue could be. I'm using a custom build, and here are some of the specs:

Power Supply - Corsair 650TX V2
CPU - Intel i7-3770K
GPU - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 670
Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V
RAM - 16GB G.Skill DDR3 1600

Now here is my issue.
Whenever I try to launch certain programs and games such as BF 3/4, Dead Space 3, Photoshop CS6, and Sony Vegas 12, they will attempt to start, freeze, and then my display on both monitors will go black for two seconds and return to normal. I'm then greeted by a friendly little message in the corner that says:
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version (whatever driver version I have at the time) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

This is frustrating not being able to use these programs which I used to use on a daily basis, and play many many games. I posted about it several times on the NVIDIA forums, and have been unable to find an answer to my problem. But after doing a little (LOT) of research, I came to the conclusion that it could be one of two things.
1) It has something to do with "graphics hardware acceleration"
2) My GPU isn't getting enough power.

Finally, after doing ... Read more

Since a week i got a new laptop from MSI (model GS70). I already installed some programs like AutoCAD, Office and so on for college. But i also installed a few games like Diablo 3 and Hearthstone.

But for some reason my laptop keep crashing when i'm trying to play hearthstone which is in my opinion not a heavy game to run. So when i try to launch i often notice that the noice is verry weird, the display is flashing and i got a pop-u that says: "Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver has stopped responding and has recovered". Mostly i have to end the task in the task manager. But later today when i tried to launch it my laptop just froze up and moments later i got a BSOD 'dpc watchdog violation' caused by driver NtosKrnl.exe. However the akward thing is that i can run diablo 3 with no problems what so ever. I have not been able to test other games yet, but so far it only happens with Hearthstone.

My Nvidia drivers are up-to-date (355.82). So i'm not sure what the problem here is.

EDIT: Since i found it very strange it only happend in Hearthstone, i also installed Heroes of the storm. At first it worked fine, but once i got in the load screen, the noice was choppy, screen flashes and moments later i got a BSOD.

( Realized I had posted in the wrong section. I apologize. :\ )

Hey, all. Before you go on and give me the normal solutions to this issue, such as hardware monitoring software, overclocking and setting the NVIDIA Driver to High-Performance, I wish to explain my scenario, and that a lot of these solutions did not work out yet. I think this is more of a dying GPU problem.

About a few months ago, I updated the drivers for my NVIDIA 555m following a few low-FPS issues ( About 30 - 20 FPS in recent games ), thinking that a new driver would help fix the hiccups in gameplay ( I have 6 GBs of RAM, an Intel i5 quad-core processor, and a 64-bit Windows 7 ). Needless to say, this fixed the FPS on my games, at least to a manageable speed, so I was happy with the move.

However, after a few days with this update, I started to notice problems. On occasion, the NVIDIA kernel mode driver would stop working, and cause Windows 7 to reset the graphics card driver. At first, I didn't pay attention to it, since it only happened once or twice per day, and nothing else occurred afterwards. However, that was my mistake - By not investigating the issue further, the problem only grew. Soon, the issues started happening frequently, and led to BSODs where Nvlddmkm.sys was the fault, with the computer saying the attempt to restart the service ultimately failed.

I have since been using the internal Intel HD Graphics, which works well on most of my games with max settings, except for games like ... Read more

Hi! Every time I start a game that uses the Nvidia 940m graphics card in my Yoga 700 with Windows 10, the 'Nvidia Windows kernel mode driver' crashes after a while. The fan then is at maximum and the Yoga shuts down shortly thereafter. I already installed the Intel and Nvidia graphic drivers from the Lenovo support website and tried some tricks found on the web (card always at maximum power etc.), but nothing really helps. The solution center doesn't find any problems with the nvidia card. Support says, the problem is known and they are hoping for Windows Redstone and a better nvidia driver... Anyone else here has this problem? And found a solution??Could it help to update the chipset driver and all the other drivers from the support website too? Thanx in advance,DerHuette

I pre-ordered Fallout 4, probably my most anticipated release yet, and I was devastated when this crash started happening. Just like my problem in Mortal Kombat X the game is utterly unplayable. This is one of the most frustrating things I have ever encountered
with a computer. Both of these releases I have specifically purchased because they are among my favorite game series and I can't play them at all.

I have a .dmp file, a dxdiag, an msinfo32 and a GPU-Z log. I can tell you right now that this is not a problem with drivers, BIOS updates, GPU temps or power consumption (at least from what MSI Afterburner graphs say) or the in-game graphics being to high.
I've done just about everything that is within my knowledge and competency. I'll take as many ideas as I can.

I did upgrade to Windows 10 during the time when Mortal Kombat X was experiencing this crash. I thought it would fix it but the problem remained despite the complete reformatting of my hard drive.

Good evening all. I am hoping to find some help for my question below. I have searched the forums here for similar issues but nothing I have tried thus far has worked.

I get a black screen for about 5 seconds and then the screen recovers. Sometimes it happens 3-4 times a game (League of Legends, Skyrim) and sometimes not at all. During that time, if I alt tab, I can see this message once the screen recovers, "nvidia windows kernel mode driver version 301.42 stopped responding and has recovered."

I have a Geforce GTX 260 with Nvidia 301.42 drivers and Windows 7 64bit (full specs are in my details). My motherboard is running updated drivers. I have tried both the 294 and 285 drivers and still have the issue with both. My GPU temp is 64C which doesn't seem to be too hot (but maybe?)

So far, I've read through a lot of forum posts and tried numerous different things, including; low video settings, disabling all visual upgrades from Windows 7, selecting the video card in 3D settings in Nvidia control panel, and numerous other things.

Please someone help!

Is your GTX 260 overclocked? Set it to default clocks and try again.

Bottleneck is probably combo of your CPU, [what video?] and motherboard chipset. [southbridge/northbridge which effects it all]

I'd try upgrading the chipset drivers and BIOS of your motherboard, found on your motherboard's web site, FIRST.

That CPU is a bit low for gaming, LoL is probably well optimized code and lower requirements as a result.

Not knowing all your hardware.... Fill in the specs, you can run msinfo32.exe from Start | search box and get the info there. Video card will be listed under Components | Display.

Guessing without it, that you could use a video card and CPU upgrade, that CPU is circa 4Q/'07 so it has seen better days, whole system replacement is probably in order, to catch up to 2013 gaming.

Looking on newegg just for an idea, this is the only LGA775 slot CPU (same slot type as a E4600) even available, and it's a refurb: (plus no guarantee your motherboard supports it, without looking it up.)

If your motherboard even has a PCI Express x16 slot, what version is it, 1.0/1.1/2.0? will likely limit a video card choice, also, let alone the PSU in it.

I have a brand new build computer and had the Windows RC installed when i started to get BSOD / nvlddmkm.sys

I have sense installed a genuine Win7 after a lovely reminder from Microsoft.
With the new install i don't get a BSOD, but i do get the "Display Driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version (what ever version of Nvidia driver u have installed) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

It only happens in games, and i have tried a lot of stuff to get it to work so i can have fun with the new gear. But just can't get a solution. Anyone here who has a experience with this problem and know possible solutions?

I have monitored the TEMP of the GPU but it does not matter if the temp is 55 or 70 c when it crashes.

Could this be related to Windows 7 and would anyone happen to have any suggestions? What happens is the screen goes black for about two seconds then appears with the above error message on the task bar. This happens very randomly, and maybe three to six times a day (had my computer for about two weeks). Also, two times now it has gone black and not come back! Hello, and thanks for viewing this thread. A few days ago, Windows XP (Home) started giving me trouble when I booted my computer. Sometimes, it would just hang forever on the launch screen, and sometimes, it would briefly flash a "Kernel Mode Exception Not Handled" blue screen before instantly restarting the computer. I was able to successfully boot into Windows a few times, but about 20 minutes later the screen would become scrambled suddenly and the computer would inevitably lock up.

I researched this issue some and found it to be related to driver errors. I piddled around in safe mode for a while and tried to figure things out, but I decided it would be easier to just do a fresh install of Windows since I had reformatted a little over a month earlier and had very little to back up. After doing a fresh install, I was reinstalling my drivers, and the same Nvidia display drivers that I've used since I built this computer 3 years ago started causing the same problem I was having before. I booted into safe mode and uninstalled them, and the problem was fixed. Then, I tried installing a newer version of the drivers, and the same problem happened.

Since I bought this computer, this error has never occurred, so I would be grateful if anyone here could shed some light on what might be going on. Thanks in advance!

In view of the above have you now on this new install installed the motherboard drivers - chipset etc and all updates, especially SP3.
re graphics as far as I can see 258.96 is the recommended driver for that card on your system
Do you now have a Minidump from the crash AFTER this new install, if so have you examined the dump file and also do you have any warnings in device manager, including on hidden devices.

If necessary - disable restart on failure and post the full Error and parameters.

May find that Who crashed will supply the analysis of the minidump if you have one.

simply install and click analyse.

Please post the results, of the who crashed analysis as they appear, not in a file that I have to open,.
Finally if you already have the mentioned driver or you install it here are the full rlease notes with all known hiccups.
Also I notice that the motherboard includes full testing facilities and stress tests, in the event of no progress with above I would be inclined to run those

Hello everyone
I recently installed windows 7 ultimate and i have some serious issues with it.
at first when i installed it, and it booted for the first time into windows i got the BSOD everytime, only way i got passed it was to boot up with driver certification disabled. i was finally able to boot into windows 7.
First thing i noticed was that everything responded very slow, if i clicked the start button it took up to 5 seconds for it to respond. still everything acts very slow.
so after a while i got the error "display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver 195.39 stopped responding and has recovered succesfully"
so my screen starts to flicker black, and i get the BSOD once in a while.
I can't run the performance test because my system freezes up.
i tried upgrading/downgrading nvidia drivers, installed direct x disable aero and so on
ive done alot of research on the web but i can't find any solutions to it.

I have a big problem with my samsung rv720-s02nl notebook.
Since I have reinstalled windows 7 I was getting a lot of errors.
When clean install and all the drivers were updated I got random screen freezes. I had to press the power button until the system was powered down.
The message said Nvidia driver stopped responding and has recovered(dutch).
I tried to use the old drivers (straight from the samsung support site) but they also didn't help.

I tried this "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista but that didn't stop the problem, but it resolved the bsods(screen freezes) but i still get error messages about the nvidia driver has stoped working and didn't respond. And still sometimes the computer freezes.

Hopefully you can help me with this.
Sorry for my English, i'm Dutch.

I installed Blue screen viewer and it said the problems were caused by dxgkrnl.sys driver. I searched on google but I found no valuable solutions.

I have used the SF Diagnostic Tool, see my attachment.

My computer is unusable because I get the Nvidia kernel error. I tried everything I could think of but to no avail. Will physical damage cause such a problem?

Do you know that the GPU unseated itself because you inspected something with your own eyes? Or for some other reason?

You say you "tried everything I could think of". Name as many of those things as you can recall.

Filling out your system specifications might help.

I am getting this error for a long time now but it only happens with more newer games like : GTA V, heroes and generals and now also with Fallout 4.
I play alot of Counter strike and I have never had this error while playing this.
This is the error I am talking about. NOTE that this is not the same driver I use.

After a certain time my screen goes black, it closes the game I'm playing and its showing the error shown above.

Things I have tried:
Re-installing windows
Updating my graphic drivers
Installing different graphic drivers(with clean install)
Updating my BIOS
Changing settings in the Nvidia configuration window.
Checking the temperature and it does not go above 60C

I've had contact with Nvidia and tried some of the above and now they tell me I should bring my pc to a local shop to get it checked out. But first I want to ask you guys from the forum if any of you might know any solution to try out before I do that.

Coolermaster B600 600w ATX23
Seagate 1TB st1000DM003 7200 SA3

Since I am not making this post at home I cannot make sure what the exact RAM memory is I use because I didnt buy it online.

I am also not able to upload a DXDiag report right now but I will do that when as soon as I get home.

I hope this would be enough information for now and I am looking forward for all your replies!

System info is telling me this driver is causing my comp to start slowly and says to uninstall if no longer using it.

Should I uninstall - will it affect anything?

A:Intel graphics kernel mode driver

It will affect your Intel Graphics card if you uninstall the driver.

I would suggest trying a clean boot which will use a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.
See if the computer then boots quicker?

Also check with the Intel Update Utility to see if there is a newer driver available for your Intel card.

This is a complete long shoot not sure if anyone will know about this or not.

I have a Datamax Printer E4203. I currently have to use the Datamax PassThrough driver to print from the software I use.

However, you can't install the PassThrough on windows 7 due to the following error:

Windows can't install the Datamax PassThrough kernel-mode print driver. To obtain a driver that is compatible with this version of windows you are running, contact the manufacturer.

I've spoken to datamax and they aren't doing a new version of this driver for windows?

I've tried disabling the following Group Policy Object. Click START/RUN gpedit.msc navigated to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Printers and changed Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode drivers to Disabled still no joy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, David

I received this error (see subject line or below) this evening while using Adobe Photoshop CS3 on my Windows 7 (64-bit) system.

Error occurred while attempting to use the slice tool in Photoshop. The screen froze momentarily (1-2 seconds), the went black (1-2 seconds) and then came back to "normal" but with the error message in the bottom right corner of screen. If occurred 3-4 times within 2 minutes. I rebooted Photoshop and it has not occurred since, but I'm extremely worried since my computer is my livelihood and I cannot afford to be without it should it go down on me unexpectedly.

I had a local guy install this video card on my system 2-3 weeks ago:

The following update will not install on my pc (update for Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2685811)).

I get error code 8004402F.

When I try, my pc ends up having to reverse the changes and will reboot itself twice before I'm back up and running again.

I am not a computer wiz and I don't know what to do. Our IT consultant simply tells me not to download it and turn off automatic updates, but I feel that if they say they're important they ought to be installed. I have also had other updates fail, but they will eventually install if I keep trying and install them one at a time.

I would be grateful for any help. Our pcs are only just about a year and a half old (windows 7 64 bit).

I keep having issues with my Kernel Mode Drivers failing while gaming (as are many others I've noticed). So I don't know what any of this means so I decided to upload a .zip with my minidump files to maybe get a better understanding from someone that knows exactly what to look for. Any help would be appreciated.

So what happens is the usual that I've been reading all over the interwebs. While gaming the game becomes unresponsive, screens black out for 5-10 seconds, sound starts to loop playback every 1 second or so, then I get the dreaded NVIDIA Kernel Mode Drivers have stopped responding and have recovered. At this point I can start playing again but only for a short time before another crash. Sometimes I can go hours without any issues and others my computer only lasts a few minutes. There doesn't seem to be any set pattern. This also happens with every game I play. I had a GTX 680 Superclock Version from EVGA that had the same issues before installing this new card.

The list of things I've attempted to do in order to fix this seems endless:
Updated drivers
Rolled back drivers
Set power options to High Performance
Set GPU 3D option to Prefer Max Performance
Turned of vsync
Increased voltage through MSI Afterburner
Set custom GPU fanspeed to keep heat down
Declocked ram to 1600 (Currently have GSKILL 2133 ram)
Set TdrDelay to 10 in registry (tried both 64 and 32 bit)
Uninstalled ALL nvidia drivers and utilities

I've got some minor problems but still I find them quite annoying.
When I'm running Win 7 my display is flickering. It just looks like bad reception on a TV station. When it gets too bad the display turns blak and after a second everything is fine and it starts all over again.

After a while Windows states that there is a problem with the Nvidia windows kernel mode driver, version 186.81 and that it has been restored. (This info is given after the screen turns black).

I think that there is a connection between those two problems but I don't know how to solve it.

I've got a nVidia Geforce 9650m GT grafics card and after I installed win 7 downloaded and installed the driver.

It is even worse when aero is running.
In Vista everything was fine.

Cannot boot in safe mode or VGA mode or last known good config after installing an Nvidia 91.xx driver upgrade. Graphics card is an Nvidia Ti4200 AGP card. When trying to do normal windows boot it gets as far as the Windows splash screen , then goes blank forever. In a safe mode boot attempt the last line printed to screen is "WINDOWS/System32/DRIVERS/agp440.sys", then it hangs there forever.

Swapped to a known good Nvidia 6600 graphics card. Same symptoms. 6600 card again proves fine back in its own PC.

Am able to get to windows recovery console using Win XP CD. Disabling and re-enabling NVSvc and agp440 services does not help. chkdsk c: /r found some error and fixed them, but no improvement. The service VgaSave is enabled.

Nvidia tech support says there's nothing about their drivers that should interfere with Windows booting into Safe Mode with VGA graphics. But something has screwed that up.

My win XP Pro CD is SP1, but the pc is at SP2 with all latest updates as aof a few days ago. I do have an SP2 Cd from another pc.

If I could just get to the System Restore screen I could fall back to a good restore point, but no display!! Helllp!

I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

Hi, everyone.

I hope someone here can help me, as I can't seem to solve this problem I'm having.

Basically, I have two laptops here. There is my brother's Toshiba Equium L40-156, and a HP Compaq 6720s.

I made an image of the hard drive in the Toshiba laptop, and restored that image to the HP laptop. I have spent the afternoon installing most of the necessary drivers so that the OS from the Toshiba laptop can run on the HP laptop.

The error I am having, as stated in the title, is that the message "Can't Open ACPI ATK0100 kernel Mode Driver" appears every time the system loads. I have tried researching this error, but I didn't have much luck. As suggested on various sites around the web, I have tried a few versions of the driver for the display adapter ("Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family"), but none seem to resolve the error. Nothing in Device Manager has a triangle to indicate an error.

Any insight into the situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, can fellow nvidia users please just check what language your NvOAWrapperCache.exe file is in please. The file is found in: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\NVIDIA\NvBackend\ApplicationOntology.
This is what mine looks like. As you can see the lanauage is in "Russian (Russia)"

This is very suspicious, as I checked all the other background nvidia processes that usually run and they are all in "English (United States)" This NvOAWrapperCache is the only Nividia associated file that seems to be in russian.
This site: Seems to suggest that russian is the normal language for this file to be in. But i'm not sure.
Please, can any of you that have nvidia cards, please just do a quick check of your copy of the file too just see if your copy is in russian as well, and post back what you find ?
Also, I did the usual scans of the whole system and of the file itself. All seem to come back clean, virustotal, malwarebyes, hitmanpro, tdsskiller, ESET Online scanner.

A:Can you guys check your NvOAWrapperCache.exe pls

Is there not one person that can just quickly check their copy of this file, just to see if it's in russian too.

Thanks, would greatly appreciate it.

I'm experiencing this when running different Adobe applications and sometimes just randomly it will occur. I've seen this problem posted by many on the web and haven't found a successful solution for me. I've rolled back my driver to the earlier 347.88 version because some were saying that fixed the problem for them, but I'm still experiencing the display driver "crash".

I haven't ever seen this before and I've had my NVIDIA 760 for a couple years now but I recently upgraded my MoBo to the new MSI Z170A. Then it started immediately. From here I'm not real sure how to troubleshoot the issue. I've also seen some suggesting that it may be a problem with my power supply, but I never ran into any issues before.

These are the 2 entries I find in the system log:

"Unable to recover from a kernel exception. The application must close."

"The NVIDIA OpenGL driver detected a problem with the display
driver and is unable to continue. The application must close."

Did you clean install windows when you swapped boards?

Next the cx line from corsair is not intended for any type of stressful use. It is for a basic build ONLY. Even corsair says it is only for a basic build;

Since you have a marginal pw supply [for use with a high end video card] Have you checked your voltages; specifically the 12V, 5V, and 3.3V values? If not, do so.
I never use msi boards so I am not sure if any monitoring software is available on the support page. If there is, download and install the monitoring software. Post the voltages here.

Whenever I play Skyrim or Fallout 4, my graphics driver crashes and an error shows up saying the kernel has stopped working. This only occurs when playing those 2 games. I play CSGO for 3-4 hours straight and the computer never crashes, but when I play those 2, the computer crashes. The crashes only occur when entering or exiting a building or fast travelling. Sometimes, the game crashes mid game, but very rare.

Updating drivers made it worse as it crashed even more.

Yesterday, I got a BsOD. It was nmi_hardware_failure.

I'm not a gamer, but rather an enthusiastic net surfer and would like my present graphics card to be as fast as easily possible. To do this, it has been suggested that I update my card's driver with downloading/installing Nvidia's latest driver (285.62 WHQL, Win7 64-bit...4G RAM, Firefox 9). I have a Laptop, about 6 months old now.
It's a Samsung RF511.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel Core i7 2630QM @ 2.00Ghz
DDR3 8192 Mb Ram
Nvidia 540M 2GB
My problem is, whenever I try to view a photo it would lag opening and once its opened I'd see blue pixel fragments all over my screen. Previously I tried to Re-install the latest driver. That didn't work. I uninstalled it and removed the registries and what not, that didn't work. So I'm now on a newly formatted Laptop and opening the Default images the Windows provides gives me these errors. Before I formatted I was getting these Errors - "Nvidia Display Driver Has Stopped Responding and Successfully Recovered".
I've read this link and I've done some of what they've said as I stated above.

I don't have anything installed other then Starcraft 2 which is being Optimized right now - and that's it.
I had Photoshop CS6 installed on my previous Installation of Windows and when this problem Occured Photoshop had trouble as well.

So does anyone know what I can do?
I really don't want to send the Laptop off. I'd like to see if I can fix it myself first. If not then I'll send it in.
Any help would be appreciated...

I've attaced an image showing what these blue pixel blocks look like with the Driver Displaying stopped responding

I forgot to add. I was getting the same Blue pixel things, and a lot more when I would open up Starcraft 2. The game ... Read more

For the past couple of weeks I have been receiving a crash on and off, mostly while browsing, my screen will go black and then come back on a short time later with the error "Nvidia Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered"

From a bit of searching and past experiences, I have found that this is apparently a long lasting problem that few people have been able to fix, most people seem to say it is an Nvidia driver issue, because of this I didn't think much of it.

However today while playing multiple games, I have received another crash I haven't received before:
My screen goes black for a bit, before coming back on and then displaying the crash shown, followed by an error to say that the game I was playing at the time has stopped working.

Today Is the first time I have seen this crash, but the crash has occurred at least 4 times today.

As mentioned I wasn't too worried about the first crash I was receiving but after receiving this new crash today (unable to recover from a kernel exception) I am a bit more worried that maybe my GPU is starting to fail.

I am currently running the latest Nvidia drivers for my GPU and running Windows 10 64-bit, any help on what may be causing these crashes or any tests I could do to help get to the bottom of what may be causing these crashes would be greatly appreciated.

Im not the best at GPU troubleshooting so even with a program I don't know what to look for other than temperature.

thanks in advance,

(1) Whenever I tried to open my control panel, there is a message saying " cant find guardant driver". The control panel is slow to open but all the items within control panel are functionally normally albeit some slowness to open up their windows

(2) I am not able to install some program with a message" cant locate NVKEYNT kernel driver".

My operating system is wondow XP professional, SP2, routinely updated. I think the problem started after I uninstall one of the trial software (maybe bit defender antivirus - but not certain ). My computer registry is routinely clean up with Advance System Pptimiser and PC Doctor by pcshield security software. There was little information about guardant and NVKEYNT driver on the net (there are a few, but they are all in none English language website)

* Underclocking - didnt work, I did it to everypossible number, rendering still happens however can play longer it is randomly and takes more time to crash. Mostly around 15-30min (without underclock max 30 seconds) still not a solution. Well I need to all these because I came accross a tool named Daemon 403- x86 which works as a virtual CD/DVD drive. When I tried to install it it gave me a messege that it needs to load something which conflicts with kernel debugger.

can I ask a question
safe if I switch to kernel mode

do you has any guide about setting on msi afterburn

A:kernel mode safe or not ?

It looks like this is a stability option. In searching the gaming sites there is apparently a lengthy tooltip visable when hovering over the choices. the gist of which is:

User mode gives the best monitoring performance and doesn't consume kernel address space, while Kernel mode can protect hardware-mapped memory ranges from unauthorized access by badly-designed applications* and in this way can protect the system from instability.

The Afterburner changelog for 2.2.0 Beta 9 states

Added new compatibility option allowing using protected kernel mode low-level access to hardware instead of user mode one. This option can also be used to bypass Punkbuster related stability issues

PunkBuster is a computer program that is designed to detect software used for cheating in online games. It does this by scanning the memory contents of the local machine. A computer identified as using cheats may be banned from connecting to protected servers. The aim of the program is to isolate cheaters and prevent them from disrupting legitimate games.

This is apparently safe, and suggested for people with instability or BSOD issues. A Guy

I posted on here a few days ago about a problem with my pc, i was abit vague and now its developed into something else.

OK, ill start from the start. I bought a PC with no OS. I had a Windows XP disk that came with my old PC, so stupidly i installed this disk on PC from DOS. Ive now read in some docs i found the disk will only work on systems of that make. After installing, on boot up the system would freeze and give me a 'Check your hard drive for viruses, access to c: is restricted' or something similar. So i booted up using a 98 startup disk and formatted c:, which seemed to work. On reboot i had a screen where it seemed the system was detecting some kind of video device, i didnt really pay much attention to this i think could be important tho. After that i rebooted again, and ran the 2000 start up disks to install w2k. After loading the last start up disk i get a 'Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap' blue screen and the pc freezes. so...i downloaded the XP start up disks and tried it that way. With the XP disks there are no problems and i can run the Recovery Console with no problems. but even after formatting with this XP start up, when tryin the 2000 installation again I still get this Kernel screen. After researching a bit, most places say this is due to a hardware error, but ive found a few people saying it was due to thier video drivers, altho theres no where that actually says how to correct this problem.

Im really going insane here so please hel... Read more

Hi, I recently upgraded to FTTC and went from 17Mbps to 80Mbps, but I was only getting 45Mbps, I think its my old Smoothwall that is restricting the speed, but to check I thought I would connect the PC directly to the new BT modem bypassing the Smoothwall. got it set up through PPPoE and went online to run a speedtest. From my Network Monitor Gadget it looked like I was right and I was now getting good speed. But before the download speedtest had finished I got  BSOD Kernel Mode Trap (Netio.sys). did a bit of Googling and someone said its usually Malware, so did all the malware scans, nothing. Did more Googling and found it could be a failing HDD, tested HDD's with SeaTools and One of my drives was indeed faulty. Replaced the drive with a new SSD and thought thats would be it sorted. reconnected the modem and did the speedtest. BSOD again.
When running through the router I get no issues, its only when I try to run directly connected to the modem I get the BSOD.

Your BIOS (version 3603) dates from 2012.  Please visit the manufacturer's website and see if there are any updates for it.
FYI - updating the BIOS by using a bootable disk is a dangerous process and shouldn't be done (one mistake can actually cause physical damage to your motherboard).
But, if there is a tool from the manufacturer that allows you to do it within Windows - then feel free to do it.
While you're at the manufacturer's website, update all drivers that date after 13 October 2013 (the date that Win8.1 was released)
Also, ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates.

I've got a Xerox Phaser 3117 printer. My computer with Windows 7 Home Premium won't install the driver for it, though it finds it and attempts an installation. The problem is in a policy that blocks kernel-mode drivers. In Win7 Pro I would go to administrative tools and turn this policy off, but here this option isn't present. Also, I've found a list of registry keys that are usually edited with the tool missing in Home Premium. Here is what I needed: HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers!KMPrintersAreBlocked. But it's present in "Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 operating systems only". A:Windows 10 unexpected kernel mode trap

Hi. . .

The 3 dumps were identical.

Probable cause listed as netio.sys, a Microsoft networking related driver. It is not the cause; merely a default.

See if Driver Verifier flags any 3rd party drivers - Driver Verifier - Windows 8.1, 8.0, 7 & Vista (BSOD-related)

Be sure that your networking drivers are updated (Ethernet & wifi -- even if not used).

Any such problems with the system under Windows 7?

Thanks for letting me process my 1st Windows 10 dump file! :)

Regards. . .

I'm using an Asus A52JE notebook, which is about 2 months old. I'm using the Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Version that came with the system on the recovery partition. I didn't install any new hardware.
Since I got the new notebook, I'm getting BSODs after the system has been running for a couple of hours.
I attached the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 and perfmon stuff to the post. Hope somebody can help me figure out the problem.

A:BSOD - Unexpected kernel mode trap

Hi octabrain and Welcome.

Both your dump files a stop error of 0x7F. Its a stop error that ZoneAlarm firewall gives frequently. You have two (?) options:

ZoneAlarm Security and Firewall is known to be a cause of BSOD's on many Windows 7 systems. Download the ZoneAlarm Remover. Uninstall ZoneAlarm through Programs and Features. Boot to safe mode and run the ZoneAlarm Remover. Reboot. Make sure that Windows Firewall is enabled.
Try this Microsoft hotfix if you wish to keep ZoneAlarm: Stop Error 0x07F when you run applications that transfer data using the UDP protocol in Win Server 2008 R2/Win 7" which I can neither verify or discount. It may work, it may not.

Avira is known to be a cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems.
Uninstall Avira and download BSOD friendly Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Make sure Windows firewall is enabled!

The sptd.sys driver is notorious for causing BSOD's with Windows 7. It's used by Daemon Tools /Alcohol 120 which will also have to be uninstalled.
Then use the correct uninstaller in Safe Mode for your set up to remove sptd.sys:

Make sure to select uninstall!

I'm going to go through your dump file looking for any updates and possible future problem drivers.

Keep getting BSOD but not on a regular basis (started this past summer I believe). I've used BlueScreenView to copy/paste results here. I used to have about 7 minidumps but recently ran CCleaner and they were all erased. I do recall though that hal.dll and ntkrnlpa.exe were usually involved. Don't know if that's relevant or not.

Would you please tell me which antivirus applications you have had previously on this machine any and all.The reason I ask is because some like to hang around after you uninstall via add remove programs and require the use of removal tools.

What kind of computer do you have exactly??Example Compaq presario c700
Just DONT us the registry cleaner function of CCleaner unless you know what you are deleting exactly!!

Then open ccleaner hit the tools button then startup second one down below uninstall then in the bottom right hand corner of ccleaner hit save to text file.Save it to your desktop and post the startup.txt here in your next reply.
Hit the start button in lower left hand corner. Then in the run box type msconfig, then hit the services tab then put a check mark in hide microsoft services what is listed there, after hiding microsoft services? Please post back to us in a vertical list.

Please download MINITOOLBOX When the box opens click save file, save it to the desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:
Flush Dns
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result.

Run sfc /scannow also run chkdsk /r Links explaining below.

i have been getting this error both on win 7 and win 8.1 from a long time now. it happens randomly. but i have found that doing the following things raises the chances.

1)Accessing internet via browser(Chrome/opera/seamonkey)
2)When laptop runs on battery
3)I am using a modem UE100 prithvi solution modem, Its application suite name is BSNL connection manager(Could it be because of this?)
4)I have done several clean installs of the OS, and when the important drivers are not installed, it runs absolutely fine(I also use this modem at that time i.e. without installing drivers and it works fine).

i have also seen this while i was using windows 7

Sorry for the bad english.

After many many hours of searching forums for solutions I have been unable to find a solution to my problem - so I decided to open a topic of my own and hope someone can help me with my problem specifically.

My problem is similar to this topic, although the solutions posted there aren't working for me. In short: I have been experiencing random but frequent BSODs (16 and counting) with the message 'driver power state overload' being displayed.

In my quest for a solution I wanted to upgrade my drivers, when I noticed my Nvidia Geforce 650M graphics card seems to have disappeared. When I try to install the latest driver from Nvidia's website I get the error 'graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware'. Attempting to open the Nvidia control panel gives me the message 'An Nvidia graphics card was not detected on your system' and I cannot find the card listed in the device manager (only the intel HD graphics family is listed under display adapters)... To be clear: I'm quite sure my laptop SHOULD have this card, it's just not detecting it for some reason.

Since the symptoms of my problem are exactly the same as described in the topic linked above, I have tried to follow the solution described by Arc. Installed Driver Fusion, started in in safe mode and tried to delete Nvidia drivers - but nothing seemed to be listed here. I still clicked delete but not sure if this actually did something or not.

A:BSOD driver power state / Nvidia graphics driver problems

Hello Zephos.

As per the supplied data, this is the specification of your graphics.

Name Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0166&SUBSYS_21031043&REV_09\3&11583659&2&10
Adapter Type Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, Intel Corporation compatible
Adapter Description Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Adapter RAM (2.080.374.784) bytes
Installed Drivers igdumd64.dll,igd10umd64.dll,igd10umd64.dll,igdumd32,igd10umd32,igd10umd32
Driver Version
So, it says it is not nVidia. But as you are saying that it was Nvidia Geforce 650M, and it disappeared, the best option is to contract the vendor. I wish you are within warranty?

Hi folks,

I'm trying to help a friend with problems he's having with his machine. Problem is, he's away at school so I have to do it using Teamviewer so I don't have physical access (and he's not very computer literate).

Machine: Laptop
OS: Windows 10 Home x64
Original OS: Windows 8.1 Home (OEM)
Laptop age: Less than one year
I have not reinstalled the OS.

CPU: Intel i5-4210U
Video Card: Nvidia 840m + Intel HD

System Manufacturer: Acer
Model Number: V3-572
When he tries to utilize graphics (such as games, etc) the laptop will throw out a blue screen with the unexpected_kernal_mode_trap error. A couple of times he has also seen an IRQL error but is unsure of what it's actual name was. I have ensured both the Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers are up to date and recommended him a cooling pad just in case it was heat related, but so far no luck.

Please find attached the Sysnative file. The upload tool seems to think the perfmon report is an invalid file so have linked it here:

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Thank you for your time.

The drive is a Western Digital MyBook Live 1TB.Here's the sequence of events:1) Installed the drive and ran the software from the CD. I only installed the WD SmartWare Drive Manager, NOT the backup software.2) Evaluated and tried out the drive for a couple of days - no issues, everything worked fine.3) Then, Windows Update notified me of 2 updates...which were rather strange...a) HD - Other Hardware - WD MyBook Live - IMPORTANT HD - Other Hardware - Storage Media Update - OPTIONAL (not the exact description, but similar)4) I noticed a yellow bang in Device Manager. It was under other devices, but it was obviously my network drive that I installed. It said that "No Driver could be found for this device." However, my drive was working fine and no issues were noted.5) I installed the 2 Windows Updates and the Yellow bang went away. The device now had a driver and was viewed under the appropriate device category.6) Went to bed, I restarted the computer the next day and within 1 minute of bootup, I get the above BSOD. I rebooted and the same error occured.Things to note:a) The error happens often (about 50% of the time) but not always.
