MEMORY UPGRADE - Windows Memory Diagnostics Flags 1 Stride38 Error

Q: MEMORY UPGRADE - Windows Memory Diagnostics Flags 1 Stride38 Error

I have just bought some new memory, 2 x 1 gig, inserted it and ran the test. I get one error in the Stride38 test. Address expected is different to the one returned.

I know which chip it is, should I send it back, or is this 1 error acceptable for the system?

Thanks for your response

I have a Dell Studio Desktop 540 running Windows 7 Home Premium.  Recently, I had the pc run a memory diagnostic and now each time it boots up the memory diagnostic tool shows up too.  I have to go in to Process Explorer and kill it to make it go away.  Any idea how I can stop this from starting up each time at boot?

Hi,
I have recently been having random blue screens of death and i downloaded the Windows memory diagnostic tool, ran the diagnostics tool (http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp) and a few things happened:
1- It threw up a message before the scan saying then memory map could not work with 4gb or something like that (i only have 4gb installed on my system) however it gave me the option to continue with the scan anyways.
First question, is this normal?
2- I continued with the scan and left it overnight for 8 hours, the first half hour i watched what was going on and it kept flagging FAILED messages on every single pass, there wasnt a single SUCCEEDED message which seemed extremely bizarre. I woke up in the morning and the scan was still going on past 64 passes.
Second question: Surely if my pc works most of the time then something would have passed and not just flagged everything as FAILED?!
Third question: How many passes does windows go through, i left the pc on over 8 hours and from what i read the memory scan should only take a few hours...

Thanks for help

I personally prefer Memtest86+ for RAM tests

You should also test each stick of memory separately (preferably overnight if not errors) and NO errors are permitted.

I've got a doozy of a problem going on here:

I've got a Vista Ultimate x64 installation. I wanted to check on my memory usage (I have 4 GB, and set my BIOS to recognize all four gigs), so I decided to schedule Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool to run on an immediate restart. It looks like I'm not detecting any problems with my RAM, but the test always runs the number of passes I specify (2 by default, but any other number as well) and then RESETS back to 1 of X passes complete and overall test status of 0%.

I'm unable to exit the test to boot normally by hitting ESC (it does nothing; just resets test progress to zero and option defaults).

I've tried a system restore after accessing my boot options by hitting F8 and booting from my Ultimate DVD; it seems that the problem is mdsched.exe got set to run the test on start-up, and since I'm never able to exit the test, mdsched.exe runs during boot up every time.

I basically don't know how I can get past this Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool. Can anyone please, please help me?

Ok, I will try to make a long story short. I've had issues with BSOD off and on for sometime now. They don't happen at any particular time and mostly occur in the middle of the night. They occur about every 3 to 4 months. I used Bluescreenview to look at the dump files. The driver it pointed to was ntoskernl.exe and the bug string mentioned in four different cases was reference_by_pointer, driver_irql_not_less_or_equal, memory_management and bad_pool_header. The other drive mentioned in one of the other dump files was fltmgr.sys with the bug check string of bad_pool_header.

Everything I could find on the web pointed to bad memory or bad mobo. I ran Windows Memory Diagnotcs Tool under the advanced setting. It took 9 hours to run and it failed. I took out all sticks of ram and put them in one at a time and ran the diagnostic tool with standard setting. That only took about 20 minutes each to run and all sticks of ram passed. I then put all sticks back in and ran it with the standard setting and all sticks passed again. I then took out one stick and left two sticks in and ran the test with the advanced setting and it failed. I'm now down to running one stick at a time with the advanced setting. The problem is it takes 9 hours to run on the advanced setting.

My question is do I conclude that if all sticks of ram put in one at a time fails that all my ram is bad or does that mean my mobo is bad? I plan to take a stick of ram from a machine that seems to work ok and... Read more

Hi there ppl, I was told to start a Windows Memory Diagnostics Scan on my computer and to schedule it for the next time my PC restarts so I did, problem is it now wont stop it just keep's running, I have tried some of the solutions I have seen on here like turning of the computer and removing the ram sticks and swapping them around turning it back on but it still goes back into the WMD scan, so I cant even log into windows. I have tried booting up with the windows disk and restoring it to a earlier time hoping that might override the command made but that also failed, please help as I'm stumped as to what to do and dont want to have to reinstall everything or take it to some comp shop to be charged a mass amount of money for something that is probably very easy to fix.
My comp specs are Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit, Intel core 2 Quad, 4gb ram.

Try booting your Install DVD, take the Repair path then Command Prompt. See if

When ever I properly shut down my system it wont boot normally. Here is what happens:

It goes to the screen "Starting windows" and gets stuck.
I press the power button, and then press it again to start the system.
I am given the screen with two options: run system repair and start windows normally.
I chose system repair.
And after system repair starts it takes like half an hour to get to the screen with the option: restore to a previous restore point.
I chose no and the system repair starts again.
And at the end it says that it was unable to find any problems and weather I need to see advance options
in the advance options I chose run memory diagnostic.
The system reboots and starts memory diagnostics.
And after completing the test it again give me the screen with options start system repair or run windows normally. I chose windows normally and it boots
After booting I am given the message that windows memory diagnostics did not find any problems with the memory

This is how I boot my computer right now, but i really dont like it. Please tell what might be wrong and how can i fix this.

Thanks in advance.

I am running Vista Home Basic w/ SP1 on a Compaq Presario SR2168HM w/ 2Gb Ram. I launched Windows Memory Diagnostics from the Start Menu. it discovered no problems on 2 passes. Now the Memory Diagnostics resides in the System Tray permanently. I can not seem to turn it off. I have tried to find it in System Config, Services, and Programs and Features. I can find no where to turn it off so that it will not stay on the Systray. Can anyone give me a clue as to how to turn it off with out doing a reinstall of Vista. I did a System Restore to a time just before I ran Memory Diagnostics to no avail. TIA for any help. BTW I am somewhat new to Vista. I just upgraded the memory in my Dell CPxJ laptop from 128mb to 256mb. I had to update my BIOS, but when I did everything worked fine. For one day. Then I started getting the blue screen with the ACPI Stop Error.

I have:

Removed the new memory stick. The machine worked fine.
Replaced my existing memory stick with the new one (in DIMM A). The machine worked fine.
Put the old memory stick in DIMM B and the new one in DIMM A. I got the Stop Error.
Put the old stick in DIMM B with nothing in DIMM A. The machine wouldn't boot.

Any advice that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I recently upgraded my Windows 7 laptop from 4GB of physical memory to 8 GB. The Bios immediately recognized the added memory but it appears the Task Manager physical memory has not changed and only recognizes ~3.5 GB of available memory. Is there a way
to have Task Manager recognize the added memory? Is the fact that the Task Manager does not recognize the added memory mean other functions are not recognizing the added memory?

I ran a memory diagnostic test. When it's finished and began auto restart, it said something very quickly that I couldn't read, but I did catch something that said thermal shutdown? And it did NOT restart. So i let it cool off (it was hot!) and reran the test again, and it lets me log on the way it was supposed to do with the program popping up on the desktop, but there was no log to view, only the original interface. Where do i get this test info? I'm a pain in the rear I know, but I really need to fix this.?

I want to upgrade the memory of one of the pc's in our house. I get low memory alerts often and I can't delete much else to create room. I have never opened up a pc before, and I don't want to screw up and make things worse. The pc in question is a HP Pavilion a1150Y with a Intel Pentium 4 (3.00 GHz). OS is Windows XP SP2. It came with 512MB RAM and I would like to go up 2GB. I went to www.crucial.com, ran the system scan, and it says that this type of memory can go into that pc: "DDRII memory with support for DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500 speeds." I don't know what speed I should be installing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am baffled and want some advice!

I have just upgraded a friends PC. It is a Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe mobo. It used to have two sticks of 1gb (800/5/5/5) which was running great, 128 mode, and I added the memory that they had bought (800/6/6/6). The bios settings were set to auto.

When it booted it stopped at the memory bit so I rebooted and this time it passed, but was running at 667. I went to the bios and manually set 800/6/6/6 which ran, but I started getting page errors etc. And it didnt boot everytime either.

I took out the original and left bios on auto, it detected the new memory and ran without trouble. I also ran memtest86 on both sticks without error.

What am I missing? Why does it keep dropping to 667?

Thanks,
Paul.

p.s. its vista 64 hence the upgrade to 4gb.

Many boards have problems when all four slots are populated. One of these is to downclock the ram to a slower speed. I have a nvidia chipset board sitting right here in my server that does the same thing.

Next did you check the asus site and check the qvl list for ram for your board?

Mixing ram of different mfg, speed and or timing is asking for problems.

I wanted to upgrade my memory capacity on a Dell Precision 410 / Windows 2000 / Dual Processors / SCSI Hardrive. But an error message suddenly appeared. Can someone explain what this message mean? ""One or more memory DIMM are out of rev. PRess F1 to configure or Press F2 to continue."

I installed a pair 256 MB of RAM PC100 DIMM into a Dell Precision 410, which already has a pair of 128 MB RAM DIMMS. When the PCs boots to POST, the error message that I stated ealier dsplays.

When I pressed F1 to configure the memory, the amount of memory shown is correct. When I F2 to boot, the OS started without a problem. When I removed the newly installed RAM from the system and rebooted, the error message went away.

What exactly is the message is saying? It is so vague. I figured so far, that the new RAM that I installed is somehow not quite compatible or defective. Can someone explain this to me?

Your notebook can handle with 4GB of RAM and I recommend you to use 2 x 2GB module.
Compatible 2 GB module has part number PA3513U-1M2G or Kingston KTT667D2/2G.

Put the part umber in Google and you will find a place where you can order it in your country.

I am running a pentium dual core, windows Vista home premium, with 2 gigs Ram, and a 1 gig video card. and a 500GB hard drive, thats only 1/4 the way full.

I had other programs running, but I closed them out.
( I use process explorer, so I know there is enough free memory).

Wondering if its virtual memory or some setting? If not its probably related to the actual radio station that I am trying to listen to, as I tried a different one, ( music that I am not really that into, ), and it works fine..

Hello! I am new to the boards but from what I have seen this will be the place to come from now on

I upgraded my memory tonight from 128 to 512 (rambus). Install was of course easy and had no beeps at start. Now windows will not boot all the way. If I hit restart it takes me to the options page (safe/normal/ect). I hit f1 at start to check my settings and all seemed fine so I continued from there and after getting to the windows page it errored out and said that windows did not load properly! I replaced the old memory and am now getting the same result as with the new. I did not change anything before or after installing the memory. if anyone has an idea of what went wrong here, please let me know thanks!

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

To start, I have Windows 7, on Sony Vaio laptop.

I have been working on the issues with the malware removal team, but now machine looks clean, I am still having issues.

When starting the computer and going to the task manager, I can watch explorer.exe start at about 18K memory usage and then grow constantly until it is running with almost all of the computer's physical memory after about seven min. I cannot get the context menu to show up after a few min by right clicking on anything.

I had been experiencing "freezing" while playing Eden Eternal (an online role playing game) before that, which made me consider malware and seek help here at BleepingComputer. The freezing has ended, last time I played on that machine at least, but now there seems to be some issue with the explorer.exe taking all of the memory. I haven't been using the machine since I don't trust that there's not something running in the background that shouldn't be.

In resource monitor there were "connections" that had "-" for both the name and the PID, but I don't know if that was the malware of if that's normal somehow?

Issue with explorer.exe seems to be limited to only one user account, and not the other one. That is to say that if I log on one of the other accounts explorer.exe behaves normally, as far as memory usage.

After my new build froze up during boot up into Windows 8, I tried to run Windows 8's built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic, extended setting, but it got stuck at 21% of 1st pass (10% overall) after running it overnight (at least 12 hours). I had 4x4GB memory modules, and re-ran this test with only one stick in different slots, all with the same result: it would quickly get to 10% overall complete, then apparently get stuck there. However I noted that I could still access F1 options when it got to 10% complete, so it wasn't frozen, but the system became extremely slow, with the screen displaying text one word at a time.

Some ideas on how to isolate the problem? I wish I could just return both the motherboard and the memory to the store, but there may be a restocking fee involved with the motherboard unless it's defective.

My parts are:
Intel Core i7-3770K
MSI Z77A-GD65
Corsair Vengeance 4x4GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) model CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9

Other information/symptoms:
- I can not run memtest at bootup either by using a DVD/CD or USB key. The motherboard's boot code indicate that it keeps trying to detect the device (DVD drive or USB key) and then gives up. Maybe memtest isn't compatible with this hardware, or I am not configuring it properly, or there are some hardware problems here.
- The keyboard sometimes did not work during boot up, such as when attempting to select the USB key to boot into memtest (attaching a USB keyboard worked, but I still couldn't get memtest to run)... Read more

Hi - running patch current Windows 8.1, and am having an ongoing but not always constant issue regarding how much memory I have available to me on any given boot of Windows.
I have 32 GB of memory installed on the computer, and yet almost 17.3 GB of that is not available to me, and is shown as Hardware Reserved when I look at the Physical Memory in the Resource Monitor.
I have validated the memory is error free through multiple runs of Memtest, have removed memory strips and blown out any possible dust from memory slots, and SOMETIMES, it properly will show me around 30.4 GB available, however most boots it is showing pretty
consistently that 17.3 GB is flaged as Hardware Reserved.

I did some searching, and have tried some of the suggestions, such as making sure the Maximum Memory box is not checked in MSCONFIG, and have also tried editing ClearPageFileAtShutdown in the Registry to change it from the default value of '0' to a
new value of '1'.  Nothing has worked thus far.
I DO need access to as much of that 32 GB of memory as possible, due to this computer using huge amounts of memory as a Digital Audio Workstation, recording music with huge volumes of samples loaded fully into memory.  Performance suffers greatly when
half of what is installed is not available.
I have also looked in the BIOS for any ways to adjust video memory and memory mapping and neither exists in the BIOS at all for me to try anything with.  The CPU happens to be an AMD ... Read more

Hello All.
I have a Dell inspiron 14R n4010, actually working with 4GB ( 2 x 2gb 1RX8 PC3-10600S-9-10B2 1033mhz DDR3).
I am trying to upgrade memory to 8 GB with 2 x 4gb DDR3L - 1600 SODIMM 1.35V CL11  recommended by Crucial.com (crucial.com/usa/en/scanview/B8204BC231D926C3).
After upgrade memory,  Bios phoenix (version A13) recognize it.  but windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits won't boot.
I read so many post about this problem, but I can't find an answer how to solve it. I tried updating BIOS and did not work. Tried to change memory speed, but BIOS does not leave me to change settings.
Is this memory really compatible with Dell inspiron 14R n4010?  anyone knows how to solve this problem?
Thanks

A:Windows won't boot after memory upgrade Dell inspiron 14R

Ask Crucial support if you can't get an answer here. Crucial is good for helping with problems like this when you buy memory from them. A13 is the latest bios. IMO 4GB is plenty of ram for this 5 yr old model. Replace the 4GB and use it until you can buy a new computer.

Prior to upgrade to Windows 10, this machine was running Windows 7 Ultimate without problem.  I frequently use the SD Card reader in the machine to upload Photos I have taken with my Camera.  After upgrade to Windows 10 the machine does not recognize the very same SD card.  I have contacted Microsoft windows 10 support about this problem.  They poked around in the machine and had no answer. I think an appropriate driver is needed from HP to make the SD Card reader in the machine work.  Please help! I am using a work around now.  I use an SD to USB adapter to load my photos but this is not the way the process should work. Again, please help!

A:SD Memory Card Reader does not work after Windows 10 Upgrade

Hi @krmiller?, I checked the support page for your computer, and I only see Windows Vista and Windows 7 drivers, no Windows 10 (not even Windows 8). Your computer was released in June 2009 -- it will probably not get updated drivers for Win10. From HP Desktop PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10: If you purchased your computer prior to August 2013, HP has not tested or developed drivers for your computer model. Some features might not work, or the installation might not be successful.HP provides Windows 10 compatible software and updated drivers to support only specific computer models. If the SD card reader issue is the only problem you're having after upgrading, believe me, it could be worse. The USB card reader you're using now as a workaround is probably the best solution. If it's enough of a deal-breaker for you, there is an option to go back to Windows 7 as long as you're within the first 28 days of having upgraded -- instructions are at the bottom of the upgrading document.

My Vaio was so slow I went to crucial.com and ran their system scan to see if I could add memory. I bought their recommended 2 gig kit and removed my 512 card , installed their two 1 gig cards and then my system started just fine. So I shut down, removed and reinserted the two one gig cards, both clicked in just fine, but now when I started my Vaio again I just get a black screen. I am trying to upgrade my son's laptop from Vista to Windows 7. My son's computer is a Toshiba Qosmio and I ran the Toshiba Upgrade Tool with no problems. The problem I have now is that the virtual memory service is not starting so when I start the install of windows 7, I get the error "windows could not retrieve information about disks on this computer". I tried to manually start the service and get the error "service failed to start". If I put it on automatic, it just stays on "starting". Obviously...this is not allowing windows 7 to see my disks. Disk management does not show my disks due to virtual memory service not being able to start. The computer is ready for the upgrade....just can't get passed this problem. I don't want to use the recovery disks if I can help it.

Try booting the DVD rather than installing from a booted Vista. You should still be offered the choice of Upgrade or Clean install.

Hi,

I ran Windows Memory Diagnostics multiple times (1GB Ram = 2X512), sometimes it reposrts errors, and sometimes not!

I'm running two OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 64Bit, where I'm encountering bad performance, and Windows 7 32Bit which runs smoothly.

I'm not sure if it's really a memory damage or something else. I upgraded lately my CPU from Intel Pentium 4 506 to Intel Core 2 Duo 7500 (compatible with my mobo), when the BSOD appeared again and again.

Thanks in advance!

A:Windows Memory Diagnostic Reports Memory Problems

Hello TheHero2012, welcome to SF!

For better mem testing use:
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.
Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Hi

It didn't usually do this, but probably after some windows update it started happening. 50+% of 8gb ram used when idle. Task manager and resource monitor doesn't show what is using the memory. When I add up all the services, it doesn't even add up to 50%. More like 15-20% of total ram.
Does anyone have a fix? I've looked and already tried disabling the ndu.sys via the regedit (changing value of start to 4). It didn't work.
If you don't have a fix, perhaps you can guide me in trying to identify the problem.

A:Windows shows 1Gb memory as a 600mb memory

Check to make sure it's not Write-protected.There should be a switch somewhere on it.
You should then be able to reformat /repartition it. If not then it could be a defective product. I'd return it and try another.

I bought new memory but it's not really working so far.
I know I won't be able to use the full 4gb memory but that's okay.

Current Memory:
1GB Twinmos 001-667-TWI-240-U-16-H-5.0
1GB Kingston KVR667D2N5/1G
www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR667D2N5_1G.pdf

Or KINGSTON KVR667D2N5/2G www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR667D2N5_2G.pdf

I put 1 stick on the board(to see how it goes) on Slot 1. Bios says 2048 ram in post and within the setup itself it displays the correct information DDR2 667 mhz 2048 mb.

Now when I start windows it is stuck in an infinite boot loop, Last known config, safe mode, nothing works.

Windows 7 setup from boot also gets stuck while loading before it even starts( no reboot)

Motherboard:
Asrock 775 twins rev 2.0

I read now that the memory is So-dimm ddr2.. does it matter much?

I bought it 2nd hand and it just said ddr2 667 mhz nothing about sofimm so I bought it assuming it's normal ddr2 667 mhz..

The package says:
KVR667D2S5/2g
2gb PC2-5300 CL5 200 - Pin SODIMM

On the memory it says:
KVR667D2N5/2g --sp 1.8v.

SO-DIMMs are usually used in notebooks. They are only 6cm long, and won't fit in your motherboard. Check out this link. SO-DIMM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the specifications for your memory:http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR667D2N5_2G.pdf

It ain't so-dimm.

Do you have access to another working computer? You might want to download and burn Memtest 86+. Then install both dimms in your motherboard, and boot from the CD and run some tests to see if the memory checks out ok.

You didn't say if you get stuck in the boot loop with your original memory installed? Can you clarify?

thanks

I have windows 7 64 bit and also running a ssd. Just a few days ago I've started to have an issue where after my computer is running for a couple hours all processes continually increase the amount of memory they are using until I get an out of memory error. Here is a pic of it around 75%. I have 8 gigs of ram (kingston) that before this never went above 4gigs of use, so not sure what is causing this suddenly.

Any help would be great.

I really hope someone can help on this.

New build. MSI H81i mITX MoBo with Celeron G1840 (Socket 1150) and 1 stick of Corsair 4gb DDR3-1333 memory. 300watt PSU. One 500gb HDD and 1 DVD drive (both sata-3)

When I switch on the computer, all I get is 3 long beeps. No display. Nothing.

MSI uses the AMI BIOS, and according to their website: "3 beeps - Base 64K memory failure - bad memory".

Memory is fine (brand new and tested in another build). I removed and reseated it to be sure. Memory is in DIMM1 (of 2) closest to CPU.

There are separate Beep Codes for "memory", so I'm wondering what "Base 64K memory" is? If it were the CPU, that has its own Beep code as well, so I don't think it's the cpu cache.

I'm trying to build a HTPC for Mother's Day, so time is of the essence. Please help! TIA.

The way things are on the internet these days I would start by running a basic malware check just to see if anything obvious is lurking. If not we can then move on to other things. Run these three in the order given:AdwCleaner:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Just bought a used computer yesterday. Came with 4 x 1 Gig ram memory. It's an HP Pavillion desktop with an Asus motherboard in it. The motherboard itself can handle up to 16 Gig (x4 slots at 4 gig a piece) so that's not the problem. The problem is, everything I try to boot it with anything more than one chip in (1 gig) it runs, but nothing appears on the monitor. Just acts like it's going to boot and never does. I've tried using two and four sticks both, properly placed, and same error. Anyone have a fix for this problem? - Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. 150 Gig Hard Drive. Asus M4A785-M Motherboard. AMD Phenom 2 Quad Processor.

A:Windows 7 Memory Error..

For more information, all four sticks are the exact same. Brand and everything. All four memory chip will work in the first slot. I've even went so far as to trying to change max memory settings in MSCONFIG..

Dell just saying it's a "possibility" the motherboard might need to be replace. No one can tell you that motherboard is definite "Fried" without first looking at the system.
What is the system model number and version of windows before upgrading to windows 10? Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10

I have a Toshiba laptop three years old. Its Windows (C memory used currently 148 GB out of 149 GB available. However the Windows (C memory of other computers for example in the library and in the college used only between 40GB and 60 GB even though they are bigger than my laptop. As a consequence I have problem because I have little memory left in my laptop. My laptop has some applications like all the computers but I think that each application uses approximately 1 GB. Hence I would like to know why my laptop used so much memory and how can I free memory.

I have a home built ASUS A7N8X2 Deluxe MoBo with an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU. I upgraded Win XP Pro to VISTA Ultimate with no problems other than upgrading a few drivers. It went smoothly. At the time I had 1 GB in one of 3 available slots. I attempted to add 2 GB more to occupy all 3 slots. This produced a reboot after POST as VISTA started. I rotated the the modules through all slots and finally realized that when I went beyond 2 GB it produced a reboot. During post it tests 3 GB and the BIOS displays 3 GB. I have 512MB of RAM on the video card. Any suggestions ?? I am running the latest BIOS and if I remove one GB the machine boots and runs great... ???? Ron

My mother's computer is some halfassed thing that one of my friends built. While I could attribute hardware problems to almost anything I've encountered on this computer, I am completely baffled at this.

I can't be 100 percent sure, but I'm pretty sure my mom downloaded the latest service pack, I'm guessing two or three. I don't really trust Windows Update, but it kept saying that support for the current service pack on her computer would end on October 10th if these updates weren't downloaded. I think she downloaded them the other night before she went to bed, and ever since then, I can't open any folders whatsoever.

I can basically open just about everything that isn't a directory. And even stranger is that every program is working just fine. As long as I don't have to navigate any folders to get to it, it will work. But when I do try to open a folder I get an error message along the lines of:

"the instruction at (some number) referenced memory at (some number mostly or all zeros). The memory could not be 'written'".

This sucks majorly because I just got a new laptop and I have about 40 gigs of information to transfer to it. I'm not a computer whiz by any means either so explicit instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I have a Intel i5 2500k 3.3Ghz, with 4GB memory running on windows 7 ultimate 64 bits. My problem is, since I changed the OS to this "more advanced", I cannot play Flight Simulator 2004 without this error message that closes the game. "Insuficient memory, please check your hard drive bla bla bla..." My system only has Flight Simulator installed, plus microsoft office and Avg antivirus (not counting with all the system updates, drivers etc). I dont understand this problem, because before this OS, I had Win XP 32 bits, with a lot more programs and addons installed and running, and I never had this problem...even with all the graphics pumped up to the max in the game. My graphic card is Asus En9800GT nvidia with 1gb ddr3 and HD with 400GB still to use (same board and HD used with XP).

Can anyone help me solve this surreal issue, it's driving me nutts and I'm feelling sorry already for changing to this new OS...what a disappointment

Many thanks!

Daniel

Try running FS in administrative mode.Right click on FS shortcut on desktop and click on run as administrator.

If this doesn't help then run the game in windows xp sp3 or windows vista mode.Again right click on FS shortcut, click on properties, choose compatibility tab and change compatibility settings there.

Hope this helps

Ever since up grading to Windows 10 pro 64 bit I get a low memory error. Once I click ok my system crashes. Memory usage % has never exceded 50% as far as I can tell. After reboot % is only about 22%. Originally I only had 4gb ram with virtual memory set to auto at 4gb. I added 4gb additional ram which in turn upped my virtual memory to 8gb. I have noticed it only happens when I use IE11 with at most 4 pages open; i.e. facebook, news pages or mail. Windows 10 only requires 4gb ram, so with my upgrade of 4gb brings my total to 8gb. If you figure in virtual memory of 8gb I can see no reason for memory to "run low". Any ideas?

A:RAM (Random Access Memory) - "Shared Memory" , Windows shows less RAM.

128 - 32 = 96

Shared memory means that a part of your system memory is used by the video card and is not available for programs. You should be able to adjust the amount of shared memory in BIOS setup. Note that you will never be able to get the full 128MB unless you get a proper video card.

In the last 2-3 weeks my computer, A Lenovo 6075DLU, dual processor, 4Gb memory, running Windows 7 32 bit, suddenly decided it did not like USB memory sticks anymore. Whether directly connected to ANY USB port, or as a card in the printer card
port, or as a camera, it always gives the same error. Device needs to be formatted. Do you want to do this now? (and ofcourse I do not want to.)
I have tried this with quite a few sticks, cards , that work in other computers (windows XP, vista, W7 64 bit), and are either formatted in FAT16 or FAT32. They seem to work in all other computers, but in this Windows 7 machine, they install with no
problems, and show up in the Computer Management as installed, healthy, but RAW. This is not a (USB) device hardware error, since I can connect them to another W7 machine, and it shows up fine, and the data is readable and data can be written to them.
I have tried uninstalling all USB devices, rebooting, reinstalling the devices, removing filters for the USB device, uninstalling the USB Mass Storage Device when connected, and reinstalling it, moving all the USB devices to different ports, but to no avail.
It keeps on having the same problem every time. I wondered if it had anything to do with the last updates, (Oct. 14,2010) since it happened about that time. All other (non-memory) USB devices, like webcam, printer work fine. Next item I will be tackling is,

Yesterday my pc was freezing on boot up with an error message about Dr Watson failure to start, when dr watson deleted from task manager all worked fine. Subsequently I disabled Dr Watson. I alsp downloaded and ran a registry cleaner called Winaso which found and repaired over 400 suppoed errors. But now am getting an `Explorer.exe - Application Error' - error message in window reads `The instruction at'0x10017117' referenced memory at '0x00000000'. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program.' When I do this computer seems to work fine. Anyone got any ideas what is causing this and how to stop it happening?

windows update has apparenly been failing to download and install the vista service pack since early september. Manual service pack update also fails with the same error. This past week, about 10-30% of my cpu, and 30-50% of my memory has been used during idle, and this is causing problems.

i'm tired of thinking what would be the cause of the problem every time i power-on my PC Windows 8 Pro will pop-up this "=( that there something to be repair" and i check the details and this is it:
Your PC RAN into a problem:
c:\windows\minidump\011913-11046-01.dmp
c:\user\darwin\appdata\local\temp\wer-19531-0.sysdata.xml
c:\windows\memory.dmp
every time i open my pc for example when i arrive at home,my pc welcomes me with that error but when i try to restart the pc won't get error. I just notice it when you shutdown pc for a day and open it on night the error will come. But after that no error will come when you try to restart or shutdown it and on it instantly just from a "cold start power on" this error will come.

I also attached some pictures so that you can see it.

but after this i can work on pc , browse, and anything you can do without experiencing any error.
btw the specs of my PC desktop is
Maximus V Gene
16gb ram
120gb ssd
i'm using on-board video using hdmi connect to LED TV, no video card yet.

BIG THANKS for any helping hand here. =)

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Greetings

L0nestar

P.S.: Don`t think a discussion is necessary, thread could therefore be closed...

A:Satellite Pro 2100 - RAM Upgrade - Memory Upgrade

According the notebook specification Satellite Pro has two memory slots and can be upgraded up to 1 GB. It is very useful to have your confirmation about RAM upgrade for this old but still good notebook model.

Have a nice day.

I am trying to use all the 4 GB of RAM that I have for my computer so I decided to "upgrade" to 64-bit. The only problem is that when I boot from the installation CD I get a memory management error. I know that my CPU is 64-bit capable as well as my video card. As for everything else I am not sure of. What is a way to fix this problem because I desperately need to upgrade to 64-bit. Any other information that you may need might not be on here, but until then you can ask so i can help you guys out as much as I can to help fix my problem.

A:Memory management error when attempting to install Windows 7 64-bit

Orbiter, can you give the exact error message?

If you still have an OS installed please run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows. It will tell you if everything is compatible

You say you need to upgrade to 64 bits. May I ask why? Apparently the Pentium D might be slower when running 64 bits applications than 32 bits.

My computer is acting weird.Im a novice when it comes to computers but know the basic stuff like how to defragment, clear internet history, ect. Recently my computer has been freezing up when I try to use programs like my kodak easyshare software or nero dvd maker. This happens even if im not connected to the internet.I start editing photos or making a dvd and then the programs just freeze.I have to restart the computer and then try gain and it never works without freezing. There have been a few times when I tried to retart and shut down my computer and got an error message that said The instruction at "0x6280436a" referenced memory at"0x0a055284" The memory could not be written click ok to terminate the program. When I click ok the message disappears but my computer hangs during the shutdown process and never shuts down.Im also having trouble when I try to download audio files or mp3s.The audio stops downloading half way through and never dowloads the entire file. When I play the file that is supposed to be an hour long i see that only 20 minutes or so has been downloaded.I have mcafee total protection and did a full virus scan with no virus found.I also cleaned my files and defragmented.I reinstalled the programs that were freezing (kodak software and nero software) too but it did'nt help. Please help me.

Hello,
I am working on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop. Intel Duo Core 2. Had Windows XP on it. Trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate (store bought). Tried to do a clean install. (Wouldn't let me upgrade from Win XP).

During installation, about 4 minutes into installation, I get the error
"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570"

I tried another copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, which I know is good. Same error.

I swapped the CD / DVD drive, and still get the same error.

I ran Memtest x86 and am getting A LOT of errors with the memory.

Here are my questions:
1) Is the bad memory causing this error?
2) I found one memory slot, directly on the bottom middle of the laptop (2 screws to remove the cover). Where is the other memory located? It has 2 memory modules in it, and I can't find the other one!
3) Is there anything else that could be causing this error?

Thanks alot!

Ox

Hello, I am new to these forums and mainly registered because i have this very anoying problem.
Whenever i start my computer if it hasnt been ON for a long time (around 1 night) it gives me an error:
Your PC encountered a problem and needs to restart:

c:\Windows\Minidump\040813-22900-01.dmp
c:\users\enfos_000\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-87501-0.sysdata.xml(i couldnt find this one for some reason)
c:\Windows\Memory.dmp

This problem started after i installed Windows 8 (64-bit) before i was with Windows 7(32-bit, i didnt have the problem with windows 7).I am often switching my computer between to places one in the city and one in the country. What i have noticed is that in the country the time lap whenever my computer hasnt been on and i have got this mistake is considirebly shorter (around 30-40 minutes).
I have reinstalled my windows a couple of times and still have this problem. Also after the restart happens it brings me back to the error again. It happens for 3 times so i get 3 errors and then it asks me if i should recover my computer.I have tried it but it hasnt helped me at all.I hope you guys can help me get this fixed because its starting to piss me off.

A:Windows 8 Enterprise memory dump error after startup

Your BIOS dates from 2006. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system (I suspect that this system is not compatible with Windows 8). Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi there,

First off, thanks ever so much for your help. I've picked up something from irresponsible surfing :(

This laptop was bought new and, apart from having iTunes and Skype onboard, is solely used for streaming video in my home theatre system. I streamed some latest season episodes of a TV show illegally from a 3rd-party site about 8 months ago...i wasnt running an antivirus at the time...voila, the pc began running super slow. Stupid, stupid me.

Boot up time feels like forever, but I timed it to actually be around 4:45. The first error message on screen upon the desktop being populated is titled

'ubd.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point _objc_init_image could not be located in the dynamic link library objc.dll.'

The next thing that alerts me is from the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application, which tells me that an error exists on port:0. I open the application and the status of port:0 is 'At Risk'. There is a prompt option for me to reset disk to normal, which immediately changes the status to normal. Upon exiting the application the application pops up again almost immediately with the same issue.

Other than that, Firefox takes a long time to boot up, and videos also take a long time and often hang up after entering full screen mode which often causes them to automatically exit full screen mode. Everything just drags.

I thought i may have a corrupted hard drive at first, but checking the hardware status in Control Panel ... Read more

I need help, I just buyed a new Computer with ASrock K7VT2 and AMD XP 2200. I tried to clean install my Windows XP Pro, but after the files copied and the windows boot from HD to continue the installation, the "Dump physical memory" always occured. It said that I should turn off the HD Chaching or Shadowing from BIOS, but there's no option about such things on my BIOS, so I can't even complete the Installation of the Windows. Can someone help me ?
I have a Geforce4 MX video card and 512 MB memory.
Thanx.
