Lenovo B570 laptop booting problem

Q: Lenovo B570 laptop booting problem

Hey guys, windows 7 unit which the owner says he suspects has virus but he also told me that his company checked for viruses but did not locate any, I ran a few virus scans but those did not produce anything. Symptoms are when I boot, it sometimes goes to windows but takes a long time and just doesn't get to the desktop, it is hanging after the logon screen. In safe mode it goes to desktop in normal time and laptop functions as normal, any ideas why it works as normal only in safe mode but can't reach the desktop in normal mode please?.

A: Lenovo B570 laptop booting problem

Some program or startup is causing the slowdown. You can do a clean boot and from there add services until you find the one causing the problem. It would be a good idea to disable your startup items also.

Hi, I have run into a problem. About two days ago i bought new system (Lenovo B570) DOS-BASED. When i tried to install Windows XP in it it did not let me do this and crashes within installation. I am describing in following steps how and what problem i faced during installation(please note that Windows XP CD has no problem):
1- I put Windows XP CD and laptop successfully booted with Windows XP Setup.
2- Setup Successfully copied all windows files to hard disk.
3- After step-2, rather moving on next setup screen, blue window appears have a long error description. The key point in Error message was something like this:
"An unexpected error occurred and setup needs to shutdown" then nothing happens...
I have tried with 3,4 XP CDs but same result!!!
I am wondering that is there any need of BIOS setting required?
I have gone through on some article and someone mentioned there that, to install XP on lenovo machine SATA configuration must be set to IDE rather than ACHI(in BIOS)!!!
Can you suggest my to the right decision, what should i do?
Thank You.

A:Windows XP installation Problem in Lenovo B570 Laptop

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
Lenovo Support - Drivers & Downloads
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.
SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot
OR
SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD

A:Windows 7 installation Problem in Lenovo B570 Laptop

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Check for newer BIOS update.

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI to try that first. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of marking it Active which overcomes certain install failures.

So, I recently upgraded my Lenovo OS to windows 10 and it was doing fine initially, but now it won't turn on. It goes to the welcome screen, I enter my password, and after that the thing just keeps "trying" to start, but won't budge, until I switch it off from the power button. I tried running recovery by pressing the one touch recovery key, but that did not work. I assume that when I installed the new OS, the recovery partition was "affected". I assume so. I have no idea what to do with it. Can anyone give me any suggestions? I would appreciate it.

Hi all, so, I have a B570 laptop with the following modifications:In the hdd slot I installed a Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB SSD, I replaced the optical unit with a caddy in which I installed the hard drive, and also I installed  an ADATA PremierPro SP310 64GB SSD in the mSATA slot. The problem is the laptop won't go past POST with all 3 storage units conected. If I leave only 2 of them connected it will go past POST and boot without any problems and I can connect the 3 unit after that and it will work perfectly. Anyone has any ideas how to make it boot with both SSD's and the HDD connected?

Ok, I'm not getting this, and I've been around computers for some time.

I've had my B570 for a bit over a year now. Worked great on home wireless network ( Brighthouse networks in Florida, with Ubee Wireless modem running Lightning or 40mb.)

Had to move to new place offering a house offering of wifi, had a bear getting that up, but finally did.

I've since moved to another apartment, and I have Bright house here too, but I'm using a different modem now, and a fraction of the speed.

Here's the q, and I've seen this on an HP laptop running Vista, but that one died and I got this one.

Go to Starbucks, Panera's, Dennys or just about any other public place, and I can see the routers and even connect, but can't get anywhere on the internet. I get either a limited or no internet, or identifying, but that's it. I know that their router is working because i can make the wifi connection on my phone and browse no problem, and I see other patrons with different computers logged in at the same time.

McDonalds, I can get in, and soon as the network connection comes up, browser will pop up and allow me to accept McD's access rights page and I can connect. I know that Denny's has one too, but it doesnt pop up, and ( I know that this will sometimes happen too ) if I try to connect to a website, sometimes the local accept page will pop up, but usually not for me.

Hi, So, the latest Windows update could not be configured on my laptop, and the laptop keeps spitting out the following error: "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." The problem is, it won't let me do anything past that screen, so basically all of the usual troubleshooting options are unavailable. I've let it sit for an hour+ and it still sits on that screen. I've also restarted the computer and attempted to reboot in safe mode, same result. I contacted Windows support, and they told me to try and "force boot" the computer. The customer rep eventually had me go into the Boot Menu (F12 when the computer reboots), but he gave up, saying that it would be far too complicated for him to try and explain how to fix it from his end. How he explained the situation is that my computer is essentially in an endless boot cycle. Would anyone be able to link me to a guide or be able to explain how to force boot my laptop so I don't have to attempt to do it over the phone, or better yet a way to bypass the update? Or is my laptop just a goner?

A:Lenovo B570 updating windows error, don't know how...

hi Oglemi,

Just to verify, are you running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 ?

If you have Win7, are you able to login and go to the desktop when you tried to boot in Safe Mode or is the screen stucked to the Failure configuring Windows Updates screen?

If you're able to login into Windows, try these steps:
1. Press the Windows key? +R, type services.mcs and press Enter. On the list of services, look for Windows Update and set the startup type to Disabled.
2. Reboot the machine normally, undo the changes that you did in Step 1 and set Windows Update to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them under the Control Panel then reboot.
    - Link to picture
3. Install the updates one by one (oldest ones first).

As for doing a "force boot", AFAIK  this means bypassing the boot manager and boot directly to the boot partition where Windows is installed (more info here). This can be achieved by using third party utilities like UltimatBootCD, Hiren's BootCD, etc.

In your case, the Failure configuring Windows Updates error happens before logging-in to Windows, thus, you can't force boot unless you reset the updates that are pending to be installed as indicated in this guide.

hi there,

My son's Lenovo laptop has it homekeys not working in any typing interface, not even in BIOS setup. Some FN key combinations also not working including numbers 1 and 5 of the keypad.

I don't know how this happened or what might have caused it. However, this laptop's display has, for several times now, been having a distorted frozen display while playing games or watching movies leaving no option for access but forced shutdown.

My foremost concern right now is for the keys to work normally again. We now use it with a usb keyboard with no problem but haven't tried it with BIOS and FN combinations.

Please help.

Anyways I turned it on after ordering replacement charger from Ebay and it just sits on the POST screen. Any idea what could be wrong?? I tap the F2 to enter setup and it will say please wait for like 5 minutes-10 minutes. I pulled the HDD and it still wont pass post. It appears to have been dropped somewhat onto its side, hence the cracked screen. Is it a orst case/fried motherboard scenario??

Hello and welcome Baxter mate some more in depth specs please as that model Googles up as a laptop.
If you use this and find out what the motherboard is it would help a bit more

Using HW Info general components

DownloadHW Info and pick the right bit version - HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download - (copy andpaste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the running informationin the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand window click on the+ for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the variouscomponents.

Go onopening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and it willhighlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detailed descriptionof that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These are very detailedand are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

See my picfor an example - in this I have opened out one my components and then highlighted one of the one you need andyou can see the detail.
But I want you to open Motherboard

PS I did mean to add please see this for posting back pics of the screen

I was trying to install Windows 7 ultimate on a Lenovo b570 that had Windows 7 Home Premium, I Gparted the drive to all unallocated, and started the W7 install, at 57%, it hangs for three hours, I take the disc out, notice fingerprints, used a CD cleaner, and cleaned it, I put the CD back in, waited for it to spin up, before hitting "try again" with the "No disc in the drive message" after hitting "try again", instead of it continuing like normal, it kept saying "The wrong volume is in the drive" despite putting the SAME disc in. No matter how many time I try to click, "try again", I get the same "The wrong volume is in the drive" message. If I hit "continue" I get a "Windows was unable to complete the installation" the computer restarts, but now I get a "Bootmgr is missing" Won't even boot to CD, not even Gparted again!

Any ideas on a fix on these various problems with installation?

I have a problem with my laptop. I spent majority of the day today on it because I had a lot of homework to do but it was working perfectly fine then. And once I finished I put it to sleep and left it alone for a couple of hours. Then I come back to do something on it and the power light never really turned off. Usually when I put it to sleep it flashes and then eventually just stops and turns off. But this time it never shut off. I held the power button and not even that worked..so I took out the battery and charger and it finally turned off. Then I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't. So I took out the battery and held the power button for 30 seconds but that didn't work either. This has never happened to me before, and I've had this laptop since 2012..and I don't feel like taking it to like the place I got it from because I'm pretty sure the warranty is expired and I just don't have the money to get it fixed, or even to get a new laptop..but the weird thing is that there are some lights on my laptop that still show, and the light in my charger is on..its just my laptop that won't turn on!

Hello everyone. I've been given a Lenovo Z570 laptop with little background information other than the fact that it refuses to boot. A clean install is not an option at this point due to the personal information on the laptop. When I turn on the laptop, it displays the Lenovo sign, then boots into a screen that says Windows Error Recovery. I've been working through the troubleshooting guide here with little to no luck. Here is what I encountered on each step:

1. Using "Last Known Good Configuration" results in a black screen that does not go away or change.

2. Using "Repair your computer" under Advanced Boot Options leads to a black screen. If I try using a Windows installation disk, the screen hangs on the initial "Setup is starting" screen indefinitely. Using a repair disk gets farther- it lets me choose some settings, but then hangs on a screen that says "Searching for Windows Installations". I'm not sure what a UEFI install is but I assume my hard disk is not UEFI because I did not see any options in the BIOS

Edit: I'm sure that the installation disk is not corrupted: tried running it in another Windows 7 laptop and it loaded without problems.

3. The hard drive is still detected in BIOS set up

4. Trying the System Restore leads to a black screen

5. As mentioned above, the repair disk hangs on "Searching for Windows Installations"

7. Booting into Safe Mode with Networking leads to a black screen

8. Not available,... Read more

Good morning everybody,

I have bought my laptop 1 year ago and everything was going ok, i installed many programs (Adobe illustrator) and games (PES2011) and many others and i faced no problems.
One day, my cousin used the laptop to watch a new movie but he forgot to charge the battery during that time until the laptop shuts down alone due to empty battery.
On the next day, i tried to power on my laptop it starts normally until it reached the Windows 7 logo it automatically shuts down. I tried again for several times with the same result then a blue screen with white writings on it was displayed on the screen (harddisk failure).
I bought a new Toshiba 500GB HDD and burned a new Windows 7 Ultimate x64 DVD to install a fresh new copy of it but i have faced the following:
1- when I power on the laptop it works normally.
2- I press F12 to choose the device to boot from (Boot from DVD)
3- It starts normally and a windows 7 screen appears with a loading bar. It is filled quickly in the first time then a new screen appears with a loading bar starts to fill but after around 75% of the loading bar is filled the laptop shuts down.
I tried to restart it for several times with the same result.

I make the following points to try to restart the laptop but always with the same result:
1- Remove the new HDD and then insert it
2- Remove the Rams and then insert them
3- Remove the battery and then insert it.

I bought a Lenovo R61e for my daughter. It came with Windows XP and 512 RAM. I purchased a stick of 2G Corsair and replaced the 512 with that over a week ago. The computer has been running very well before and after, but a lot faster after.

Today all of a sudden it started acting all squirrelly. WIndows seemed to go back to the login screen for no reason, then when my daughter logged back in it worked normally, but then FireFox crashed, then Windows crashed, giving her various error messages and alternating blue, black and normal looking screens.

We shut it down, then restarted it and Windows would not boot at all. I instructed her to boot in safe mode, she did, but the pointer refused to work and she could do nothing.

At this point I read the instruction manual and discovered how to get into the pre-loaded "PC Doctor" application, ran this, and ran a system check. Results were all hardware passed except memory, here are the memory results:

Well I bought a refurbished Advent Roma 4001 laptop from PC World (yes, I know, I should know better) and it's been giving me big headaches in-between great performance.

I've had the laptop since Monday and so far I've had to format the HD and reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 3 times. It's not an original image disc, it's one I downloaded from the net (I'm wondering whether it's the disk that's the problem) since the laptop came boxed with nothing but a charger.

I understand my options of it still being under guarantee but I can forsee it being a long drawn-out process with PC World trying to return it and get a refund, and the irritating thing is that I can get the laptop to work, and when it does, it's great.

The problem I'm getting is after leaving it dormant overnight. Following boot-up the next day a few things have happened so far:
Booting up without issue, with speed, and when accessing the desktop suffering severe lag speeds and unresponsive freezes while the system seems otherwise operational.
Booting up as above and having everything fine, including after logging on, but problems with booting up again after restarting immediately.
Hanging at the log-on screen and either continuing onto the desktop after a period of anywhere between 2-20 minutes, or refusing to log on and freezing at the "Please wait..." or "Welcome" sign, with the rotating mouse loading sign.
Freezing at the Windows logo at startup, then continuing onto Start-Up repair,... Read more

A:Booting problem, new laptop

Try running the command in run "CHKDSK".

I suspect there might be something wrong with your CPU or your HDD (Or both, after reading your post i wouldn't be surprised).

By the way, i've never heard of that computer brand. Nor could i find their website. Nor do i get how that pcworld place can get off with selling a laptop in such a poor state?
Wouldn't it be better to return it, get a refund, and buy it somewhere else, so it'll save you quite a few problems now and in the future?

Anyhow, whatever you choose, Good Luck!

I have a laptop which is not booting up (most of the time).
Please don't see the poster of this topic and think I am just trying to fix my own laptop and don't know where to start, as that certainly ins't the case.
I am repairing a friends, have repaired many many before, and have read many forum posts that had potential to help me with this, but have decided with what I have done I need to start my own topic.

So, what the problem is, is the computer wont boot up. When power on, about 10% of the time it will go to the "Press F10 etc" screen then get stuck on a backlit screen. The rest of the time, the display is non existent.

So I have tried -

- The good old turn off, unplug, hold power button, then plug back in etc.
- Swapping memory modules and trying different formations
- No HD and no RAM I get no error beeps (at least not consistently that I can reproduce)
- External monitor (no different)
- Stripped right down to mobo, and it did start working.

Up until this point, I thought had to be graphic problem. NVidia chip on the HP G60. Very suspect for a lot of people.

After that final step, I put it mostly back together and it intermittently worked, probably about 6/10 times. There seemed to be something wrong with the power button board connection that affected it somehow.
Then I tried it again fully built and got it working pretty much every time. It was running Vista.
It needed reinstalling so put Windows 7 Professional on.
Now, about 1 in 2... Read more

Hi

I have a Toshiba Portege S100 Centrino P-m 740 1.73 Ghz / 512mb 60gb Dvd/cd-rw Wlan 14.1-tft Xga Wxp Pro Uk

A couple of days ago, while XP was just loaded, I switched off (hard reset) the laptop by mistake. I somehow must have done something wrong as I cannot get back to a normal XP session.

I am faced with this constant loop:

Laptop starts>boot sequence>Win XP logo appears>Blue Screen of Death>Laptop re-starts>...and so on.

The Blue Screen appears very briefly so I do not get sufficient time to read the message.

This happens in every configuration I try (safe mode, last known good configuration, etc.)

As usual with these sorts of things, I did not back-up my data and I am desperate to preserve the data on the hard disk!

Any help would be most appreciated

Thanks

Hi guys,

I have one ACER TravelMAte 737TVL laptop. One month ago I had to change its battery and after I changed it a weird problem arose. When I try to boot my laptop without the power cable ? everything?s all right BUT when I try to boot it with a power cable in ? it shuts down after couple of seconds. I think it might be a problem with the BIOS configuration (because I toke out the battery) but I don?t know well the laptops BIOS configuration options.
Have any body had the same problem?

Any ideas how to fix this problem are highly appreciated

Hi - I'm hoping someone can help me. I've been using an IBM 2628 laptop running Win 98 for the past year and went to start it this morning and it hangs at the very first screen (IBM Thinkpad Logo). It usually lights-up the HDD light and crunches for a while before loading windows, but now, only gets stuck on this first screen and won't continue to load windows. Can't access bios from this first screen - It just freezes. I had this happen once before and I just waited a few days and tried to start the PC and it worked fine. I'm stuck again and am not sure what to do. Any advice?

Thanks!

Hey guys, strange problem, unit started freezing before it could go the desktop so I did a system restore and now can easily get to the desktop but first issue is that the owner always had to enter his password to enter windows, now that doesn''t happen, when booted the system will go straight to windows. Also rightlicking on the main folders such as My Pictures My Documents e.t.c doesn't work so I am guessing it's a permissions issue. I looked at the Folder Options but not seeing anything there regarding permissions, I want to advise the owner to backup all files first before I should proceed to do anything but since I can't copy and paste that won't work, any ideas please?

I would run a hard drive diagnostic...to deal with any questions I might have regarding the fundamental capability of the hard drive before assuming it's an O/S or other problem.  Chkdsk /r is NOT a hard drive diagnostic, it's a file system tool.

Hi there,

I have checked in device manager and two items, vga flash memory and vga video controller are both not available. I have tried updating them through device manager but it doesn't find any drivers.

I don't have any other games to test it on so have no way of checking to see if the video card works.

Could someone please help me solve this problem

I am trying to install a windows 7 / XP dual boot on a Lenovo 550P I recently purchased. I have had no problems setting up a new partition and formatting it, but whenever I try and install XP on it, I get partway through the installation process and always get a blue screen of death. It tells me that there is a hard drive error.

To test this, I installed a copy of Vista 64 on the partition with no problems. I wiped the drive and started again with XP and had the same problem.

I am now wondering if there is an incompatability between XP and the hardware in my system. The system specs are:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 720QM(1.6GHz)
Chipset: Intel PM55
HDD: 500 GB
Memory: 4 GB

I am wanting the XP OS so I can use my old 32 bit compilers. I have considered reformating the entire drive and making it an XP machine, but do not know if there is an intrensic incompatibility between XP and the hardware.
thanks.

welcome to sevenforums!
Where did you get your windows xp cd? If you downloaded that cd from utorrent, there is a small chance that the cd isn't bootable or corrupted.
Also, I have had similar experience on my HP g70. It wouldn't install windows xp no matter what I try. I cannot run the installer from windows of course (application hard block) and whenever it boots up, it would have a disk warning.
I think that some manufacturers include something in their bios to make sure the system is stuck with vista or beyond, or that perhaps, the new hardware available in the nine years since xp made its entrance, made the xp incompatible. I mean, can your xp recognize your cpu or chipset?
Perhaps the only possible method would be to run xpfrom a virtual machine.
Judging from your system configuration, virtualization wouldn't be that bad, it would run pretty well
Thus, my suggestion would be to install windows 7 and simply run it from XP Mode. For that, you will need a copy of windows 7 professional or ultimate (tad bit more expensive than home premium). Or you can buy a home premium and install something like virtualbox.
Seriously xp, is more trouble than its worth. Even if you manage to install it, you will need a TON of times getting all the drivers for it. Xp doesn't have generic or native drivers so you will need a flash drive to store the drivers lol. Windows 7, however, has generic drivers for almost all modern hardware, so you will ahve a better "out of box" exp... Read more

It's a clever Microsoft trick to hid audio away from \Device Manager. Go back to Control Panel and click on Sounds and Audio Devices. If the pages are mostly greyed, no audio hardware is being recognised so you may need to go into the BIOS menus to enable it. Post back first if you need details on that. If the Hardware tab has relevant information, please post it back here, or visit the Lenovo website to see what's on offer.

The bluetooth service is set to start automatically on  every logon. I even tried to install dual boot Zorin OS, because usually Ubuntu OS doens't need drivers. I bought a Lenovo S207 laptop from Amazon.co.uk about 2 years ago loaded with windows 7 and at that time it asked me to input the product key but was not accepting it and decided to leave it until now as I have just upgraded to windows 10 but I have always had a problem with windows accepting the product key which is on the reverse of the laptop casing and is still not accepting it now that I have windows 10.

I need to know if I do need to input the product key and if this essential to keeping my system working properly and any help with this problem would be much appreciated thanks

A:Problem with loading the product key onto my Lenovo laptop

You didn't clarify if that "Lenovo S207" laptop with Windows 7 was bought brand new or refurbished or used from Amazon.
If it asked for the 25-character product key during setup and it didn't accept the one that you provided from its Certificate-Of-Authenticity(COA) sticker and it didn't activate, it shouldn't have allowed Windows 7 to run fully functional for more than 30 days, so I'm curious as to how you got it to run fully functional for 2 years.

I can't find a "Lenovo S207" laptop at the Lenovo support site in the U.K., so we need to correctly identify your laptop.
Go here, then see if you can locate the information that would correctly identify it.

Hi All,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A50 laptop. Recently, I have formatted the laptop and installed Windows XP. I am experiencing the following issues:

1. While booting, I get the following message:
PXE - E61 : Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE - M0F : Exiting Intel Boot Agent

2. Sometimes, the F10 or F11 key starts glowing because of which the keyboard gets locked. It seems the numeric keypad gets on because of this glowing of the F10 or F11 key. Then, I am not able to type the password and log into Windows XP. However, this problem does not occur regularly.

Can you suggest a remedy for the above two issues. Is there any virus that is causing these problems?

Thanks in advance

HardDrive issue

Your internal HardDrive is either not creating a good connection
Or it is slowly dieing

To get it back working
Remove the HardDrive (not sure where, just read the manual)
And then re-insert the HardDrive, making a good connection
Then turn back on

Once Windows starts back up
You should save all user data to external media
And hope it continues to boot the HardDrive

I'm trying to use a Windows Server 2003 evaluation copy for my laptop (I'm studying for a Microsoft certification). I thought it was just a matter of installing the software (a 2-disk set) and voila! - I could use it. Unfortunately, the disks want me to boot from the CDs, which I've never done before, so I'm unfamiliar with it (I'm also using Windows 7). I'm evidently supposed to go into the bios and change the boot settings, which I poked around in, but I was hesitant to change anything, as I was afraid that afterward the changed settings would screw up my laptop or something (once I was done with the CDs, what would happen when the laptop won't boot from the C: drive, or example? I'm unfamiliar with doing this, so I'm paranoid.)

Once I put the first CD in the laptop, I was given an option before bootup to boot from a CD, which I thought solved all my problems. But after extracting files the laptop never gave me the choice to "insert second CD" or anything. Worse, it then wanted to boot normally and gave me no option to do anything different. It said something about encountering errors, which it needed to repair. I let it repair and it took me back to where I was before I ever installed the CD, I think.

This is so frustrating. I thought this was a simple software installation. I didn't know I'd need an A+ certification to get this Server 2003 program to work.

Is there an easier way to get this to work?

You want to wipe out your entire system and install Windows Server 2003 on it? I wouldn't recommend that. You should use a virtualization program instead like VMware or VirtualBox.

Hello midho and Welcome to PCHF

Windows XP did not support SATA HDD out of the box.
Support for SATA started with Service Pack 3.
If you slipstream SP3 (see here how http://winsupersite.com/windows-xp/s...ice-pack-3-sp3) you can have a new installation disk that will work.

Just to make sure everything else is OK, use the BIOS diagnostic and check the HDD before you do anything else.

I just bought a new Lenovo Idepad z410, it's a non OS Computer

So what I did is to first install Win 7 on it, and FYI I've done it several times before and everything just gone smoothly.

Now here's my problem, after installing Windows 7. I got this message before I can boot into my Win 7

Okay after this happened, I immediately check my partition in Win 7 using Disk Management. And here's what I got :
After I saw this there are 2 questions that popped up on my mind :
1. What is this OEM Partition ? ---> After I googled it seems that it has nothing to do with this problem
2. What is this unknown 1000 MB partition in front of my Win 7 Partition ? Why it's in FAT32 Format ? Is it where my System Reserved lived ?

I can't understand this and decided to check this on GParted and here's my result :

The fat32 Partition has 'boot' flag whereas my Win 7 partition doesn't have 'boot' flag on it, is this why I got that 'option' before I started to get in my Win 7 ?

Here's what I guessed :
that 'option' appeared because my Win 7 Partition doesn't have a 'boot' flag on it & the fat32 Partition which has the 'boot' flag on it doesn't have any OS installed there. So I have to choose manually Win 7 to boot because it's not set automatically to boot to my Win 7 Partition.....
Well gentlemen, Am I correct ? Or I'm totally wrong ?

A:Booting & HDD Partition Problem with new laptop.....

Looks like you didn't boot the installer but ran it from the old OS which locked out the C letter from being available, so now Win7 is booting on D which is not desirable. In Disk Mgmt "System" flag means that partition holds the boot files and is booting the OS, while "Boot" flag means this is the partiition booted now.

I would start over and boot the installer, use the Drive Options pictured in Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7 to Delete all partitions, then create and format new or just click Next and the installer will do it for you.

The OEM partitions can be deleted because Recovery will not boot to run after the reinstall. So you would delete at least the first three partitions during install to create a new partition for Win7 there, But it would be best to delete all partitions to start fresh. Only save D if you don't have a way to back up its data then afterwards you can extend D into the Logical Free space and the deleted 1000mb OEM partition to its right. If these partitions balk at being deleted we can help you work around this. Partition Wizard Extend can extend whatever Disk Mgmt won't, even into non-adjacent partitions.

Since you had problems with the fundmentals I would also read over the Clean REinstall tutorial linked below which has everything that works best to keep a perfect install. It is based on tens of thousands of installs we've directly helped with here, and has over a million satisifed users without a sing... Read more

Hopefully someone can point me toward a solution (and not reformatting the HD unless absolutely necessary) that I am having with my Dell Inspiron Laptop. When I power up the laptop, after it being turned off for an extended period of time (i.e. overnight), it will begin the boot process. I get the Windows XP Pro splash screen and then the screen goes black for about 30 seconds or so. If I then see a cursor (arrow) on the black screen I know that the laptop will finish the boot correctly. If no cursor appears after 30 seconds I know it has locked up. If it locks up, I hit the power button to restart the laptop. It will then come up with the "You did not shut down correctly" message and it lets me choose to boot in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, or Normally. If I select standard Safe Mode (the first choice), the laptop boots up into Safe Mode. I then immediately tell it to Restart and the system shuts down and then boots normally. Once the system is up correctly I can shut it down and reboot without problems (90% of the time) so long as I reboot it immediately after doing the shutdown.

This boot problem happens 8 out of 10 times I try to start up the laptop the first time. I have contacted Dell and they were about as helpful as a sharp stick in the eye (it may have been a language barrier).

I have a feeling if I just reformat the HD and re-install Win XP Pro and all my apps the problem will go away, BUT, I want to try other solutions before doing the re-forma... Read more

Since this is a Windows XP machine.

How long ago do this problem start? If you think it's software related, you might want to try and reboot into safe mode.

Press the F8 key when the PC is booting up. This will get you into the Windows XP startup menu. Boot into safe mode, and start the System Restore program. Restore your OS to an earlier date. Keep restoring to earlier date past the time you last remember having any problems with the system. If the problem is indeed software related, Windows XP System Restore should take care of the problem.

A:Acer Laptop Travelmate 240 booting up problem

Hello Ramesh Suri

I think you will need an XP installation CD to fix this. If you do not have one, borrow one just to run this fix.

Then
Configure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD.
Set the boot order to
Floppy (if present)
CDROM
Hard Disk
SAVE and EXIT

Start your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, do so and let the CD-based boot process begin.

When the Recovery Console option is offered ("Press R to start the Recovery Console"), do so. You may be asked which Windows installation to enter, in which case type the number of the Windows installation you wish to work on (usually "1").

When prompted, enter the Administrator's password for that Windows installation. If you did not set a password just press ENTER

At the command prompt, type
Bootcfg /Rebuild
ENTER

The exact wording will depend on your setup, but after a few moments you'll see a prompt that says something like:
Total Identified Windows Installs: 1
[1] C:\Windows
Add Installation To Boot List?

Assuming the information you see is correct, enter
Y
Bootcfg will start the process of rebuilding the boot list to include the indicated Windows installation

After a moment, you'll be asked to "Enter Load Identifier."
This is the name of the operating system that will appear in boot me... Read more

Hi,

I am having trouble with an Advent 7088 laptop running Windows XP Home. Initially I was getting the ntldr missing error message on boot up but was unable to boot into recovery console to repair the boot sector. I tried using a usb keyboard to boot from the XP cd as the laptop has no OS/2 ports but still no luck even though I know the keyboard works on other machines. I took the laptop apart to remove the cmos battery to see if a cmos reset would work and now get "CMOS Settings Wrong...CMOS Date/Time Not Set...Press F1 to Run SETUP....Press F2 to load default values and continue". I have taken off the panel that includes the power button to check the ribbon is correctly fitted, the power button works fine but none of the other keys seem to work. Is this a keyboard problem or motherboard problem? Any suggestion are really welcome as I am hitting a brickwall at the moment!!

With this laptop, I had various problems, like driver not working, windows crashing, etc. All problems are solved but my CPU and GPU are being under load all the time (stats below). This is not a gaming laptop but it can run some games on quite high FPS. Problem is that this laptop uses Nvidia Optimus technology. The GPU doesn't want to work sometimes.

Hi guys,

I have strange problems with my Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769) laptop.
I wasn't able to find similar problems on the net and I hoped that you could help me to diagnose them.

The problems are as follows:
1. When I turn on the laptop, nothing appears on the screen and there is no POST beep. After a few seconds the screen gets brighter (but still black).
2. If external monitor is attached, I'm able to use Fn+F7 to toggle the display. Then I get the menu where I can choose to boot in a safe mode or to start Windows (the operating system is Windows XP) normally, but the display is corrupted - there are strange vertical lines on the screen. Here is how it looks:
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/696/dsc00010gr.jpg/
I tried that on two different screens and the result was the same.
3. If I choose to start Windows normally, the Windows logo is displayed for a few seconds (also with vertical lines):
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/193/dsc00011io.jpg/
After that, I get this BSOD:
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/809/dsc00012lh.jpg/
And the computer reboots immediately.

All problems started at the same time.

I'm able to boot in a safe mode.
The minidumps are attached. I tried analyzing them using "PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer", but it gives me the error message: "Incorrect crash-dump signature".

So far, I tried doing the following:
1. Reinstalling Windows.
2. Running RAM test using Memtest 86+ v4.0, no errors found (stopped after 3 passes).
3. Disconnect... Read more

Dear Lenovo Staff,I'm experiencing multiple issues running Ubuntu on Lenovo Y700-17ISK laptop:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Problems-running-Ubuntu-on-Lenovo-Y700-17ISK/td-p/3278... At the end, I installed Windows 10 alongside with Ubuntu 16.04 only because of BIOS updating.During the last month or two, it was impossible to find any BIOS file on 'Y700-17ISK Laptop - Lenovo Support' web page.Today I finally found a new BIOS update file: Released 7/18/2016, Version CDCN35WW. But when - hoping to solve problems running Ubuntu on Lenovo Y700 - I attempted to install this latest BIOS update file through Windows 10, I got the following error message: "the version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS". And then I found this forum post (05-18-2016):"Please be advised that Lenovo is in the process of removing the BIOS CDCN35WW for ideapad Y700-15ISK, Y700 Touch-15ISK, and Y700-17ISK laptops in response to customer reports that the software does not execute as expected. Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW or a newer version of the BIOS will be made available". Once the issue has been corrected, CDCN35WW version of the BIOS will be made available again????????So I downgraded my BIOS CDCN35WW to BIOS CDCN30WW, and after that I installed again BIOS CDCN35WW - everything went well, but now my BIOS shows it is CDCN30WW version??? I would be very grateful for any help, thanks in advance.

A:PROBLEM: BIOS UPDATE FOR LENOVO Y700-17ISK Laptop

My Bios is CDCN34WW so I did upgrade to version CDCN35WW (latest from 18.07.2016) installation went very good,no errors or problems diuring instalation proces but after rebot my computer shows that I'am still on CDCN34WW version. What's i should do now...?

My dell laptop came with a windows home basic 64bit initially.. I installed windows 8 and then further ubuntu 12.04 through windows 8 to my system.

Due to some unrecognized problem, windows 8 became highly unresponsive as it made the screen unstable as soon as it booted. Due to which i had to delete windows 8 from my system. But i made a mistake of formatting the drive windows 8 was in without uninstalling ubuntu from my system. Since then it didnt boot any other system other than the original windows. If i try installing any OS to my system, just as the installation is about to start the laptop shuts down..I am incapable to load any other OS..I have tried various versions of linux based systems.

I have re-installed windows 7 on my system; making all new partitions. Now many errors that used to occur before in my system are resolved but this problem of the OS installation remains.

Any help on the matter is most welcome..Since I am a linux user..I'd like my system to be responsive to it asap..Any ideas on how windows 8 might have effected my system boot is also welcome.

Hi,

I think I may have a disc problem. The laptop is an (HP) Compaq nc6220, running Windows XP (SP3 I think). It's quite an old laptop which isn't used very often.

I started the laptop in order to rip a CD and when I went into Windows Media Player it gave me a message stating a new version was available to download. I did so, and after restarting the machine I opened Media Player to rip the CD but then got a BSOD.

I then rebooted but it won't start now. Each time I reboot it displays the usual Windows startup logo and then sits at a black screen for a couple of minutes before displaying the following message :-

Non-System disk or disk error
replace and strike any key when ready

At this point I can do no more.

I do get the usual screen at startup which appears after a BSOD, offering safe mode and last known good configuration etc. but no matter what option I take, all I get is the above message.

As I said at the start, it is a very old laptop and has a very low spec, but it normally works okay, albeit a little slow.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Rob.

Make sure there's no external devices connected to the laptop. You may want to run a drive diagnostic to see if any errors are returned.

In order to test the hard drive you can run one of the diagnostic programs below. The files, in ISO format, will need to be burned to a CD using a program that can burn CD image files.

ok so im dealing with a laptop and uppon buying a hard drive and putting it in and installing windows i get this annoying windows detected a hard disk problem popup each boot.

i know what it means but im not buying another HDD just got this today

i need a way to hide the error and please dont say

?Task Scheduler Library? => ?Microsoft? => ?Windows?. => ?DiskDiagnostic? or anything to do with gpedit because this is windows 7 home basic and does not have those options

also i force install the gpedit and it does not have a DiskDiagnostic tab. so i need another way around this

windows is acting 100% fine a i believe its a false positive to i choose to ignore the error.

Well i found nothing to fix this issue so i killed it from the root. found the .exe that is responsible for the prompt "DFDWiz.exe" & "DFDWiz.exe.mui" and renamed it and prompt gone. had to go thought such extreme measures but hey it worked.

for anyone also looking on how to remove the message

i took permission of the whole system32, right click system32 folder with the take ownership.reg (provided below) then look for the 2 files "DFDWiz.exe" & "DFDWiz.exe.mui" and rename them to something like Old-DFDWiz.exe & Old-DFDWiz.exe.mui

then reboot. Done

My Lenovo Laptop recently has stopped working. It turns on and everything, it just cannot boot up.The loading screen pops up and everything, but it won't go to the login screen. When I power the laptop on, it goes on the loading screen, and stays like that for a good 5-8 minutes, then gets an error message that says"Process1_Initialization_Failed"Then it tries to go into System Recovery, but after "Loading Files" it goes into the loading screen, then transitions into a black screen. There are no options, just a black screen.I wait for an hour, and absolutely nothing happens.I made sure nothing else is plugged in except for the Charger. The laptop is a Lenovo Y51.If you need anymore information, please ask. I really need this fixed soon.

Hi Braniel64 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

We are hoping that you have a recovery media to run repair if needed else using a rescue image to boot from so that you can try this process directed in this video. Similarly you may find suggested steps here .

What version of Windows do you have (Win 7 / Win 8.1/ Win10) ?
Any data that you have not backed up yet ?

As you have described for a probable windows boot process issue , factory reset would offer as last option if the above repair steps fails.

Update us how it goes .

Regards

My Computer data:Lenovo G50- 45Win 8 already being installedMy problem:Hey dudes,I wanted to start my PC as always but instead of starting my GUI, windows just showed me the message that "Automatically reperation is being prepared". I used to wait but after hours the computer stayed the same. I decided to use the "onekey recovery" but instead of recovering, the computer just showed me the lenovo sign and used to load. The same procedure, I used to wait hours, but nothing changed. After that I prepared an USB device and set win 10 (64) on it and wanted to let him boot from my device. After having a lot of problems, I found a page on the internet telling me to change to "legacy" mode and to disable secure boot. Well, done that and enter with "Fn and F12" the boot menu. Selected my USB device and he is really showing me a Win 10 logo. But, and thats my problem he isnt doing anything else. He is just showing me a loading circle with a big blue Win 10 logo. I dont know what I should do next. Any Ideas around here? I've heard that a Hardware issue could be possible, isn't it? While booting, I pushed different Keys and heard one single, loud Beeping. Hidy ho all,

I have a Lenovo G505s I bought in august. Up to this point, its been a great machine. This morning (11/20/2014) I installed some updates from windows update. around 4:30 PM today, I rebooted the machine, because I had an hour break in between classes. During that reboot it tried to install those updates, and it said it failed. After the failure it said it was reverting back to the prior state before the updates were installed.

It then rebooted again. It got to the Lenovo splash screen, and some little white text on the bottom of the screen has said for the past half hour "Updating your system (5%)" with the windows 8 little circle thing spinning around just above it.

I did try restarting it by holding down the power button, but it came right back to this screen.

Google has turned up nothing yet. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, have they (you) been able to fix it?

A:Lenovo G505s not booting

I think the quickest way around this issue is to let the OS try to install the updates it might take a while to do so(which is a pain) but I would wait because you don't want to mess up your system you might loose more than the time you will wait

So, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Z61T 9660CTO which I bought in 2007. It has served me well. Yesterday, it was working perfectly, albeit with some exxtra high heating at the bottom, close to 60-70 degrees Celcius. Then , I wanted to put in a new SSD into it. So, I took out the old HDD and then connected it, and the other SSD via USB casing to another computer running a disk cloning software. Tried it did not work. Now, I put back the old HDD into the Thinkpad, it does not start up again at all. Even the first screen which says "Thinkpad" press Blue button for recovery" does not come up now. Hard drive is not it, since the screen does not switch on at ALL. If it was HDD failure, it would say something like HDD not detected. But in this case, it does not even show the initial Thinkpad screen. So, this may be a loose connection somewhere (even though I did not remove the casing at all while removing the HDD) Both times, I removed and reattached the HDD, with the power cable removed from the Thinkpad, but, the battery was still inside the chassis. Short circuit? Bad! Someone help.

In case its not clear, when I press the power button, I do not arrive at the press Del to enter BIOS screen at all. No THINKPAD screen. Just black screen and no HDD activity

The S-ATA hard disk must be placed in “compatibility mode” using a BIOS function before
SuSE can be installed or used.

Otherwise the XP disk boor does not recognize the HD..

I turned my Lenovo laptop on Friday to see the usual splash Lenovo on start up and then nothing else happened it kept continually doing that and going no further. Just so you know my laptop has no warranty left as I got it last Christmas second hand. I have been looking at demonstration videos on you tube and what I have tried so far is. I plugged in an external usb keyboard and got into bios and checked it was detecting my hard drive and it was. The next step I did was disconnect internal power/ battery and did the hold of the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute  with the power cord connected only. And it was still doing the same. I then got advised to remove the cmos battery turn on laptop and then back off and put the battery back in. This has also failed to work so now I am looking for help here as I don't know what to do next and am hoping someone here has a different suggestion for me to try and hopefully get my laptop back up and running. Thank you in advance for any help given.

Try and boot with charger plugged in. If this works try installing the latest updates you may have restart and install more than once so be patient. If this doesn't work check with your device maker.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad T430 is not powering on.
Check if it's something to do with your AC adapter or battery. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and try to power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Try starting the laptop using good known AC adapter and battery.

Try connecting the device to an external monitor and check if it displays properly.

Please do let me know the happenings!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi all I have recently bought a Lenovo M91p thinkcenter Desktop as an upgrade to my old i3 PC. Old Spec is as follows:Coolermaster Thunder 600W power supplyIntel DH55HC motherboardi3 CPURadeon HIS HD 7950 Graphics card8GB RAM500GB HDDI have transferred my old 500GB HD and Power supply to the new Lenovo desktop and everything booted fine. Then I installed 2x 2GB extra into the Lenovo M91p (Making it 8GB), and upgraded the 500GB HDD to a 1TB. So my new spec is as follows:Coolermaster Thunder 600W power supplyLenovo Q67 motherboardi7 2600 3.4 Ghz CPU8GB RAM1TB and 500GB HDDEverything Booted fine. Then I tried to install my old Graphics card (The Radeon HIS HD 7950 Graphics card). All i got was a blank screen, no beeps, no BIOS... Nothing. At first, i thought my power supply wasn't enough... So i tested a 750W power supply in the pc. Still nothing. Then I thought the motherboards BIOS was outdated... Updated it... Still nothing. I even tried updating the firmware of the graphics card. Nothing. The graphics card definitely works because I tested it in my old machine and it worked 100%.However, I took my graphics card to my supplier, and he tested it on another one of his PCs... Didn't work there either. My PC's BIOS doesn't have support for secure boot, in case anyone wants to know.I have run out of ideas now... Any one able to help?

A:Lenovo M91p Desktop not booting with new graphics ...

There's a white list of graphics cards the BIOS will recognize. The HD 7950 is a 180w card, well in excess of what the factory power supply can provide for (and the case/fans sufficient cooling for), and is not one that Lenovo would provide BIOS support for.

Use the search engine above to see what cards other owners have successfully used in their M91p.

A:Booting up from the optical drive on a Lenovo H430

Hi, On the Lenovo H505s you have to change a few options in the BIOS to install Windows 7 which requires booting from the optical drive. It's probably the same in the H430 Restart the computer at the white Lenovo (BIOS) screen, hit F1 to enter the BIOSGo to Security tabGo to Secure BootDisable Secure BootReset to setup modehit Yes to "Do you really wish to reset platform to setup mode?" Change the boot options to look for USB devices if you are installing from a flash drive, or make the DVD drive the first boot device. (Select SATA dev 1 not the DVD drive or whatever it's called and hit the - key) Go to the EXIT tabDisable OS Optimized DefaultsSave and Exit. That's now I did it on the H505s, not to sure what impact that has on the OEM installation of Win 8, probably destroys it, so be aware you might not be able to go back after. -Cheers

I don't know which OS in on this unit, if it's 8 or 10 but when I power on the only screen I am seeing is the Boot Menu screen with 2 options showing exactly as below:

1; Windows Boot Manager
2. eMMC Card0: Sandisk iNAND 64gb

Any option I choose between those two then ENTER brings it back to that same screen, pressing ESC does the same thing. I tried F111 and F12 at power on to see if there is a recovery or reset option but only that boot screen shows up, help please?

A:Lenovo ideapad 100s-141BR not booting
