WiFi connected with limitations and won't start up automatically

Q: WiFi connected with limitations and won't start up automatically

Hi all!

Thanks for reading.

I am at my my sisters and she had lost internet connectivity with her HP Windows 8 laptop.  It would say it was connected, with limited connectivity and all 5 bars or 4 bars depending on where in the house I was.  However, it would not connect to the internet

I had read some posts and tried different things (some guy named vonnie?) and it did not work

I saw a youtube video where the guy said to update the drivers and that did the trick.  I was able to connect to the internet!

Now the problem is that when we turn on the computer, it does not automatically connect.  When I click on the wifi icon, I have to tell it to connect and I have to put my password in (every time) and it connects, but it says limited connectivity.  It does work, however.

My question....how can I get it to connect automatically (even though I have the box checked to connect automatically) without having to enter my password and why does it say limited connectivity?

Thanks all...

Whenever a device is connected to my hotspot the wifi is turning off automatically thereby stopping the hotspot.

To turn the Windows 10 hotspot on, in first step I have turned on the Wireless Network Connection as shown in the below image.

After that I did following steps in Command Prompt(Admin) for hotspot
1. netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyWiFi key=mypassword
2. netsh wlan start hostednetwork

In netsh wlan show hostednetwork command, it shows the hotspot had started successfully as shown in the below image.

But whenever a device is connected to this hotspot the wifi is turning off automatically thereby stopping the hotspot.

I have unchecked the Power management option i.e, Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
All driver are updated to the latest versions.

Please help

Hi,
This is not a complaint, my wifi is working fine, my question is HOW
I work for a small company in Jordan, a while back I moved to another country, bought a new laptop from there, and I kept in contact with my company as I provided some long distance consultancy. I had teamviewer installed on the office PCs and on
the new laptop and I connected with them a few times.

Now that I have returned to Jordan, I resumed my job at the same company, and when I first walked in, with my new laptop which I got from a different country, it connected automatically with the office's wifi network. and I want to understand how?

did my pc take the wifi credentials when I connected with them through teamviewer? was the wifi password saved to my onedrive in some way? is this the wi-fi sense thing?

many thanks

Hi, I have recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 on my lenovo z470. Recently I have noticed that when I switch on my laptop with AC power (with battery removed), wifi does not automatically start up. I have to manually switch on the wifi through the hot key fn + F5. However, this does not happen if I run on battery without AC power. The wifi will have automatically started and connected. I have untick the network adapter properties of "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. I have also ensured the WLAN AutoConfig is set to automatic. These do not solve the problem. What could have gone wrong?

A:Wifi does not automatically start up when running on AC

Welcome to the forum deddy.

Do you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer for your WiFi adaptor ? The machine was running Windows 7 before so will probably need compatible drivers to run it on Windows 8.

I know I had a virus or still have a virus (I watched my computer being remotely controlled). I have ran malwarebyte on my computer and it detected and deleted 2 threats, and shows nothing else after several runs. Ran CCleaner. I have WiFi connection but Google Chrome only works for a couple minutes before it stops loading. Java update keeps popping up on my bar but when I click it nothing happens. When I got to the windows search bar to search for anything nothing happens beyond the "searching..." screen. Last night I had to force the computer to shut down after it remained on the shut down screen for 20 mins. Also had cpu spikes that seemed to have stopped suddenly. When started in safe mode everything works fine.everything started after I updated world of warcraft, but I doubt that was the issue because the remote control happened a day or two before that. Reinstalling Windows 7 is not an option right now.Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. See this article for more info: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/d...fi-with-fon%3F

Do you have another user account on this computer? Are you able to see the Network indicator in the notification toolbar on that account? Follow the steps in this documentto create a new user account. If you do find that the icon is in the notification taskbar, you may also use those steps to recover from a corrupted user profile.
Let us know if this helps.

Okay, so my desktop is connected to the network by wifi to the wireless N (plus B and G) router. It connects to the internet fine and dandy. My iPhone can connect to the router, but drops the wifi signal most of the time. It doesn't seem to want to hold the connection because of either distance or interference from the wall or whatever.

What I want is to connect the iPhone's wifi to the computer for a stronger connection. But I don't want to move the router because it's centrally located and my office is kinda further away from it.

Equipment:
1 computer
1 802.11n wireless USB adapter connected to computer
1 802.11g wireless PCI adapter connected to computer
1 802.11n router connected to internet
1 iPhone with 802.11b/g connectivity
Is it possible to do this? I know what people have done it with one wired connection and a wireless connection from the computer. But can it be done with TWO wireless adapters connected to the computer?

Thanks in advance for any replies....

PS...I know it'd be easier to just use the computer to browse the internet since I'd be in the office anyway...but I work as a 3D modeler and alot of times I'm testing renders for scenes and such and can't stop the render without losing the progress. If I browse while it's rendering, it's possible I can crash the computer because of the heavy resources the 3D engine is already using.

A:Possible to connect iPhone's wifi to computer that is connected by wifi to the net?

Doesn't hurt (except maybe your time) to try. Get an ad-hoc wireless network working between computer and iPhone (using dynamic addressing). Then in Network Connections bridge the two wireless connections.

If it doesn't work, show the following for the computer before you bridge and when you have the bridge.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Where you live is your setup like this?

#1
Internet
Modem
WiFi Router

or

#2

If you want extend the WiFi you would get WiFi Access Point. Or you can take a WiFi Router and disable NAT, SPI, DCHP, then you create a static IP address. 192.168.x.50

This is the exact opposite of most WiFi issues. I have two guest networks set up on my wireless router (Asus RT-68U), one for each of my daughters. I change the password daily in order to make them earn the password with chores after school. My older daughter's T450 refuses to stop connecting to the WiFi, even persisting through reboots. MAC address filtering fails, as does turning off internet access to her MAC/IP combination. After changing the password or enabling one of the more strict rules, eventually, randomly, her laptop will finally decide to stop accessing her WiFi connection. I am fairly certain it is something with the Lenovo as I have two other laptops, one Asus and one HP that both respond as I would expect to a WiFi password change. Any ideas as to why this happens with the Lenovo?

Hi,

If you right-click the network icon on the notification bar then click Network and Sharing center then Manage Wireless Networks you can then right-click your network and select Properties. There's a checkbox for "Connect automatically when this network is in range", make sure that's got a tick in it.

Hello Everyone!

I was advised to post my issue here after posting it on the General discussion page. I'm hoping that someone here can help me out! Please bear with me, as this post might be a bit long!

Summary:

I've been having an issue the last few days where a folder is automatically created whenever I have USB device, in this case, my external HDD is connected. I've tried numerous times to delete the folder, but it keeps being automatically created on it's own after its been deleted. It's been creating itself at random intervals (anywhere from a few mins to a few hours) while the external HDD is plugged in, and it will sometimes automatically be created as soon as the external HDD is unlocked (my external HDD Is password-protected).

Some background info:

I know that last week, I connected my niece's USB flash drive to my computer, as she wanted me to put some files on her USB flash drive for her. I know that once I connected her USB flash drive, I created a folder, named it, and started to move some files over to the folder I created. During that process, I noticed that empty My Docs/Pictures/Videos subfolders were being created automatically in the folder I had originally made on my niece's USB flash drive. I would delete the folder I created, but the folder would automatically create itself once again, with all subfolders intact. I ignored the issue, moved the files over to my niece's USB flash drive, and disconnected her USB flash drive from my computer.

Hi,

My laptop (acer travelMate 5520) reboots automatically when the internet cable is connected. If I remove internet cable and then shut off laptop it does not reboot automatically.

please help me solve this problem.

thank you!

A:laptop reboot automatically when internet cable is connected

Sounds like a hardware issue. If the unit is under warranty, contact Acer. That said, a couple questions: Does it happen in Safe Mode?
Does it happen if you use MSCONFIG to boot in Diagnostic mode?

If the answer to either or both of those is no, you may actually have a bug that's triggering a reboot with internet connectivity. Try the advice elsewhere on Tech Support Forum for removing malware.

I tried disabling task scheduler, full system scan and it did not help.

Any suggestions please??

A:windows 7 system reboots automatically only when connected to internet

Is it just a random shutdown, no warnings? Also, is it a "regular" shutdown cycle? Where it simply follows the steps, shows the "shutting down" splash screen?

Hi there, I'm trying to eradicate the problems on my father's laptop, a Dell Precision M6300 with Intel Core 2 Duo and Windows Vista Business SP2.

First thing I removed was AntiVirusGT, but I'm still running into these issues:

-Every time it connects to the internet this error appears:
"You are about to be logged off
Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now."
This even happens in Safe Mode with Networking.

-What typically follows is a second error:
"Services and Controller app has stopped working"
Application Name: services.exe
Fault Module Name: unknown
At this point any process I try to run or were running will not respond.

One minute later the laptop restarts...the problems only seem to happen if I connect to a network.

-Also, this message appears sometimes:
"Host Process for Windows has stopped working"
Application Name: svchost.exe
Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll

-Lastly (as far as I know), no matter how many times Spybot "fixes" the problem I can't get rid of PWS.KDPinchIE; a trojan in a registry value.

I've searched and tried various solutions and nothing has been resolved. Windows Defender can't detect anything harmful and Ad-Aware finds no threats. I really need help...

Below is my DDS report, and the other reports are attached. Thank you so much.

Hello Everyone!!

I'm a new member here to the forums! I've have used sevenforums in past, as an unregistered user for help on various win7 issues, so I'm very grateful to all the help/work you all do! Unfortunately, I've come across an unexplained issue going on whenever I have a USB device connected, and I'm hoping to receive some help and/or solution to my issue. Please bear with me if this post happens to be a bit long!

It all started all last week after I inserted my niece's USB flash drive to my computer. I was adding some files to her USB flash drive. I created a new folder, named it, and started adding the files. All of sudden, random empty folders were being created automatically in the folder I was transferring files to. The folders resembled user folders to me, as they were titled "My documents", "My videos", "My pictures". As soon as I deleted the empty "My docs/vids/pics" folders, they would reappear and/or be recreated again several minutes later. I ended up trying to delete the folder I created on her USB drive, and it would recreate itself again, with all the "My docs/vids/pics" subfolders intact. Ignoring the issue, I just transferred the files over to her USB flash drive and called it good.

Earlier today, I connected my external HDD (Western Digital 1TB) to my computer, and similar issues started to pop up. I had a folder with the same exact title name as the folder I created on my niece's USB flash drive, ... Read more

Hello!
I have a netbook with a 10.1 inch screen, and a 22inch LCD display panel.
When I connect my netbook to the display, the words seem too small at 1920x1080 resolution. If I set the font size to 125% or 150%, then it would be too big once i unplug my external LCD and use the netbook's 10.1 screen. Setting the 22 LCD to a lower resolution makes the text look very blurred, so that's not an option.

Is there anyway/script/program to automatically change the font size when I connect/disconnect the LCD screen? thanks!

The system tray says the wifi is not connected, but in the connections list, it shows it is connected to our wifi.  The internet works as far as i can tell.

Ive ran a couple different antivirus scans, a registry cleaner, and have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and nothing works.

Any ideas?

A:Wifi not connected/connected

Just as a note, the use of registry cleaners is strongly not advised by anybody on BC.

Since the connections list shows it as connected and your internet connection is working I would put it down as just 'one of those things' and stop worrying about it. At the end of the day what matters is that you can and do connect, not what various indicators show. You have taken all reasonable steps - with the exception of the registry cleaner - and everything apart from the indicator shows the system is working.

Okay so I hope I am posting this in the right place. Recently we got a new dsl modem/wireless router combo from Verizon, an Actiontec GT704WG. All other devices in my house have switched over just fine and work without issues (another laptop, desktop, game consoles, ipad, cell phones etc) except my laptop. It connects to the wireless network no problem but randomly it will stop loading pages. It says it is still connected with 5 full bars with local and internet access but web pages will just "load forever" without ever changing. Sometimes I'll get a message saying the server timed out. The only way to fix this is to reset my wireless network adapter, which is a temporary fix. I already made sure that my wireless card drivers were up to date and tried to power cycle the router but this hasn't worked. I'm fresh out of ideas now and this is super frustrating.

A:How to reconnect to wifi network automatically?

It is a lot of articles about how to automatically connect to ad hoc networks at Windows 7/Vista (since Windows Vista you can't do this), it uses a windows profiler to perform this operation, but I'm afraid this solution is not suitable for you, cause actually you will have to run the task every fixed period of time.

p.s. at the link you provided price is $15.

Hi,  Wifi connection was getting disconnected sometimes after booting the system. When I checked the Device Manager, Wifi driver was uninstalled. So, I installed SP65649 and I was able to connect with Wifi. After some 10 minutes, the connection got abruptly stopped (I have not restarted the system; I was in middle of my work).Wifi driver got automatically uninstalled. Could you please help me with this request.

A:Wifi driver getting uninstalled automatically

@SPSamy, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  Generally speaking when you have any driver getting dropped and uninstalled like that, it is due to bad hardware. If you can please post back with your full Model and Product number.  WIth this I can provide you with some more information based on your system specs.  HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? Please post back when you have a chance. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

I have a preferred WiFi Connection, but Windows 10 seems to require that I manually connect to it. How can I make this automatic?

In case it matters, I use an ethernet connection too, and run both, because they are different subnets each with devices (network shares) that I need access to (yes, I have a bridge.) Anyway, the network works just fine except that I have to manually connect to the WiFi everytime I restart WIndows. Ideas?

I take my Windows 8 laptop to several boutiques that I'm building websites for and it's a bit of a pain to have to find the appropriate hot spot from the list shown at each store and enter the password for it. I'd like to just open the lid and have the laptop automatically connect to the right hotspot for this store.

Any way to do that?

Thanks

A:Connecting automatically to WiFi hot spots

That should be the default behavior as long as you're saving the password for the hotspot. I forget the exact wording, but there should be a setting on each connection like, "Connect automatically if in range".

Welcome to Seven Forums,

You might want to check out the Realtek site for the latest driver for your Wi-Fi adapter.

Also, see if it helps disabling the Power saving mode of your Realtek adapter in Device Manager, see image attached.

Hi

I'm new to 7 (all my desktops are XP Home).

With XP, the OS just connects automatically to my home wireless network.

However with this netbook, I have to do it manually everytime I reboot - it's a real pain.

Not sure if this OS, hardware or both.

Can anyone advise ?

I've looked at services.msc WiFi service and it's set to automatic already ....

thanks

PS Also, is there a way to get 7 to boot straight to desktop, without having to click on user icon or enter password ?

The reason these 2 are important to me is that this netbook is basically a music server, so when I come in from work etc., I'd like to just power up the netbook then walk off and play stuff via my network (Squeezebox) players

Hey, I was trying to setup an adhoc connection, but I'm faced with a dilemma.
I have internet via an ethernet cable, so I want to spread this wifi using my laptop's wifi connection.
However, whenever I connect the ethernet cable to my laptop and it's connected to the internet, the wifi light on my keyboard automatically turns red and the wifi router no longer works, hence I cannot create the adhoc connection.
After I remove the ethernet cable, the wifi light turns back on, and I'm able to create an adhoc network, but I won't have any internet to spread since, well, the ethernet cable is not plugged in...

I have an HP running on Windows 7.
Both ethernet and wifi adapters are fine.

How do I prevent my ethernet connection from shutting down my wifi router??

Thanks everyone!

A:Wifi router turning off automatically

Hmm; IMO, Windows is attempting to keep you out of hot water.

Your PC WiFi is not intended to act like an open hotspot. I you what 'guest' connects via wifi, you should manage that in the router setup (several have the option for guest vs lan users).

You were to create this kind of network:

router = = PC - - wif - - guests
The routing table needs special entries and in effect, you would be creating a dual-home environment (the guests could just as easily be a secondary ISP).

Yeah.... In your Netowrk and Sharing you'll find a list of recent wi-fi connections. Forget the one that you'ld liketo connect to, then reconnect, enter the password and check the box that says "Connect Automatically". I'm sure I'm getting alot of syntax wrong but, that's the general idea.

I have a 4 year old Asus laptop that has been great through out the years. My son installed Skype and now it doesn't connect to the wireless network in my house on boot up. I have uninstalled Skype, but the problem still persists.
I have to run the trouble shooter and applied the fix it suggests. The problem found is, "Wireless capability is turned off." Applying this fix works every time until the machine is put to sleep or powered down, then it has to be done all over again. Curiously, when I press Fn + F2 I can disconnect from the wireless network, but when I press it again, it does nothing. I have to run the trouble shooter to connect again.

I have updated all my drivers directly from Intel and have made sure that the correct services and their depencies are all started.  Nothing seems to work.
Another Problem Found that the Trouble Shooter detects is, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken." I have tried to fix this problem, but have not been successful.  As far as I can tell, the cables are fine.  I don't know if the two problems are related, I would think so.
Any suggestions on how to automatically connect to my wireless network without having to run the trouble shooter would be great. Thanks.

A:Can't Automatically Connect To Home WiFi

Another Problem Found that the Trouble Shooter detects is, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken."
The above problem just means you don't have the Ethernet cable plugged in. If you do have the Ethernet plugged in, then you have a problem though!

For the above problem and the wireless issue I would do a System Restore to before Skype was installed, and see if that fixes it.

..and which do not.

I had a question: How do i get to the little menu where I can choose which applications automatically start up when Windows starts up and which do not? I forgot how to get to that menu but I remember that I could check and uncheck which things would start up, etc. The reason for this is because everytime I start windows, it tries to load my scanning software which I don't need started anymore due to the scanner not being connected at all anymore, and the uninstallation not going as properly as it should of.. but it just bugs me that it tries to connect to the scanner (with about 3-4 attempts) when Windows starts so this is my best option...

Any idea?

I've tried using CMD, going back on my Restore Point and nothing has worked, and if it does it's only for 3-5 minutes, and it gives me the same error that I have no internet connection. This is an ongoing problem that, while frustrating, usually resolves itself after a bit. No so today. My laptop connects to our wifi network just fine, but when I open google chrome (or any other browser) it gets stuck 'Connecting...'. On the bottom of the screen it says 'Downloading proxy script...'. I can leave it indefinitely and this doesn't change. Using ping commands to open a webpage doesn't work.

Usually restarting the laptop works (not usually on the first go, but eventually). Often the computer takes an exceptionally long time to shut down when this happens. The odd time restarting doesn't work but for some reason running Rkill does. According to the report there's no malware issues, the only thing it really says is *Windows Defender Disabled. Today, nothing is working.

A few other devices in the house are connected to the same wifi and running fine. I frequently use this laptop with a wifi network elsewhere and don't encounter this problem there.

This may well be a problem that is well beyond my puny computing ability, but any suggestions would be very welcome!

Hi I?m new to these forums and am hoping for some enlightenment. My wifi at work will recognize the wireless network and says it?s connected. Yet there is no internet. So I use the Ethernet cable and internet works. My wifi connects immediately on my home wifi router with no issues. I had wireless working flawlessly last week, but all this week it won?t connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do you guys want me to do that ipconfig in DOS and post the results here?

A:Wifi has network but not connected.

Welcome to SF, America.

Your card is recognizing the wireless router, but the router is not connected to the Internet (I'm guessing). Unplug the wireless router, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in and test.

By the way, you didn't say if other workers could connect to the wireless router and get Internet access.

A:Can't stay connected to wifi

theres quite a lot of things that may have caused the issue , and so its difficult to give a guide here.

it may have been a windows update that caused an issue and the restore has resolved and it will work fine from now on.

if it happens again , then the first think to do , would be to start a new post and detail as much information as possible

make and model of the PC
windows version
are other pcs able to connect to the wireless
and then an ipconfig /all
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the infomation above those entries

I have a dell 32-bit running Insider Preview and nothing else.
I have an Acer 64-bit running Win 10 Home RTM and nothing else.

In my Dell, I was not able to connect Wifi after installing 14279.
Suggestion was to disable and then re-enable WiFi driver. That did not work. I went back to 14271.

So, I went to my Acer, enabled Get Insider Preview builds.
Today I got the update via Windows Update. After successful install and activated. WiFi was unable to connect.
Used the same suggestion, no avail.

This 14279 is the FIRST time I was unable to connect the WiFi.

It cannot be my computers, because they are of 2 different makes and models.
It cannot be my modem because I never have this problem .......... for 3 years.

The maddening part is............... I don't see any complaints from any forums on the same issue.
So, I can't blame MS either.

Same thing while WIFI is ON. Is the modem/router working? Yes, all other laptops and wireless devices using the same router/modem connected no problem, wired or wireless. Brought the laptop to a COX center, staffs there are very helpful, connected to a diff router, repeated the same steps still the same result. We also checked Device Manager at Control Panel, Networking showing everything "working properly". Even tried disable then enable the corresponding NIC, warm-boot, cold-boot, same.

Hopefully this is the correct thread. I'm 69 years old, so patience, please!

I was able to enjoy blistering speed, 72mbs down / 20 mbs up. My old Dell all-in-one went belly up and I had to purchase a new computer.

This coincided with a problem with the BT Infinity broadband where a connection in the box up the street came loose. Now repaired, BT assure me all is OK to our premises and therefore the problem is mine!

Our speed is now hovering around 50mbs down / 13mbs up. This seems to make difference sometimes, especially when both my wife and I are streaming - her to PC and me to iPad to TV via Apple box.

The funny thing is the supposedly ethernet connected PC is giving similar speed results to those of the iPad. That prompted me to wonder whether the desktop PC may be connected via wifi or both wifi and ethernet and perhaps causing a conflict somewhere.

I only need wifi on the desktop to connect to our printer which is always "found" when required.

In a nutshell, is there a simpleton's way to check when I am connected to the BT Home hub using both wifi and ethernet and if both, which one takes precedence?

Thanks.

A:Is my PC connected via wifi or ethernet?

It may be that Wi-Fi and Ethernet are not the issue but the speed from the Modem to the WAN/Wide Area Network or known as the Internet. Wi-Fi and Ethernet are usually the connection between computers/devices and the Router which is then connected to the Modem to gain Internet access. The Modem and Router may be in the same box.

For instance.... are things like my credit card information, name, email addys visibile to the central computer? Or does each PC that is connected have some sort of "unique identifier" of some sorts that if in the wrong hands could put you at some kind of risk?

Just curious and wondering.

A:Connected to WIFI network who's is it???

Even though you mean no harm just connecting to someone's network is illegal. Yes, I know they aren't being very smart, but if somebody leaves their front door open you can't assume you are welcome to walk in.

Since they set up the network without encryption, they probably know it's unprotected.

Your best bet is to just leave it alone. As you start to learn/use networks you'll soon enough see how you might be able to locate the source of the network.

I have been having a problem on several devices conecting to my WiFi router saying there is a problem with Authentication. I have just relised that if I disconect the ethernet cable from my desktop computer to the router the WiFi works without porblems and as soon as I reconnect it I cant connect to the WiFi anymore. I using windows 8.1.

Any suggestions?

A:Can't connect to WiFi when LAN connected.

What is the make and model of your WiFi router? It sounds like a setting is enabled within the router that is giving precedent to your Ethernet connection over your wifi connections.

A W520, Lenovo Thinkpad, Windows 7 64-bit.It has been working until yesterday, the first day at southern California:- Cox provided a NETGEAR modem/router, has dual band for WIFI, say Band1 and Band2- Tried both bands are "Windows are unable to connecto xxx", or show as "Connected" in WIFI list, but saied "no internet access" and a yellow star on top of WIFI bar in lower right corner.- Tried all four combination of WPA2-Personal, WPA-Personal, AES and TKIP.- Plugged in wire directly from router while had WIFI turned OFF, got "currently connect to xxx, no internet access".

For the last two months my wifi has been dropping randomly and picking back up after a few minutes.I use laptop, kindle fire,ps3,blu ray player on router (conflicting IPs?).Three days ago,I reset my Linksys (WRT320N) router and now cannot get any wifi connection at all (only through ethernet connected directly into laptop).I've signed into Lynksys set up page (192.168.1.1.),created a domain name,Host name and a passphrase.I now see newly created network,i enter passphrase and says connected, but i cannot access the internet. I have tried ip release and renew to no avail. Also, tried running as admin on command prompt and flushing and netsh reset, winsock.Ip config says media disconnected, tunnel adapter local area connection 6,7,11,12.

A:Wifi says connected,but no internet

after a reset the default for the router would be 192.168.1.1
BUT
you are showing a default gateway connection on your ethernet of 192.168.1.254

Also the wireless adapter is a Atheros AR5007 and under vista , any change in routers or router settings can cause issues

can you explain what you are connected to using the ethernet cable ?

and you should update the wireless driver from the manufacturers website - if that does not work - then from Atheros site

whats the make and model of the PC ?

AR5007
Vista 32 / 64 Bit
Direct link Drivers for Atheros AR5007 and Windows Vista 32 / 64 bit
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started

To install the driver you will need to do the following

Extract the downloaded zip file into a folder on the PC
then

> Start Globe
> Control Panel
> System and maintenance
> Scroll down to Device manager
> network adaptors, click on the + >
> Right click on the AR5007 Adapter
> click on Update Driver Software...
> click on Browse my computer for driver software
> let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
> Have Disk
> click on the Button Browse...
> Locate the folder you extracted the zip folder and highlight the .inf file
you should see two files with .inf
Vista 32Bit AR5007 netathv.inf
Vista 64Bit AR5007 netathvx.inf

A:How come the computer say my wifi is not connected?

If the computer sees the printer then it is probably fine but try printing something to be sure.If you unplug the printer, wait a minute, plug it in and press the power on and give it a moment to reconnect to the router, it should be fine after that. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I am far from computer savvy, but I know basic things. Here is my issue...
My HP pavillion dv6000 (yes it's old, I know) wont allow me to use the Internet. It says I am connected to my home wifi with 5 bars signal strength. My iPad and Droid both connect to my wifi and I can use the Internet fine. I actually have 2 Hp pavillion dv6000 laptops, and neither will connect to the Internet! Up until today everything worked fine and all of a sudden I can't open the intent on either one! I called Hp and they were no help. I have read other posts about people having similar problems, and tried the solutions suggested but nothing has worked! I need my laptop only because my wonderful iPad can't do everything I wish it could.

Help!? Thanks in advance!

OK ..

im sure this is something silly and simple.. at least I hope it is.

I have a laptop with wireless. ... I can search for wifi networks.. like the airport and starbuck... find the list of networks available.. and hit connect.. and it says conected.

Then when I open up my Web Browser.. nothing ! Page cannot be displayed. as tho i have no connection. I have tried it with a few different places .. like the public wifi places and still nothing.. and even on a private network in my friends house

Im sure its a setting or something.. though I have the automatically detect settings selected in the internet options.

Its like the computer is connecting to the network.. but yet its realising that OH I should be using this connection for the Internet !!!

Im pretty good at sorting out problems with PCs / Windows thou I have no expierence of wireless networks so am totaly lost.

Hope this makes sense !
Thanks
Paddy

A:Connected to WIFI but no Internet ?

When you seem to be connected, open a Command window and type
ipconfig /all

Does your wireless show "Yes" for "Dhcp Enabled" and for Autoconfiguration Enabled ? If not, you need to go into your TCP/IP properties and set to 'obtain IP auto' and 'obtain DNS auto.'

If your wireless is showing an IP of 169.254.x.y it did not successfully get an IP configuration from the router or server. Is there a chance that the wrong driver is installed--maybe one for the wrong region of the world (for example, US and Canada use channels 1-11 while most of Europe uses channels 1-13).

If not the above, post the ipconfig here. One way to do so is to type
ipconfig /all >C:\ipconfig.txt
This will put the results in the ipconfig text file on your hard drive; you can open it with notepad to copy and paste here.

Hi there everyone.

I have an Asus A53T series laptop running windows 7. Had for a year now and the entire time have been connected without problem to my Optus wifi modem. For the last week however the laptop keeps disconnecting from wifi and when I troubleshoot and reconnect, it lasts no longer than 10 minutes at a time.

I've restarted my modem a few times but that didn't do anything. I also restored all deleted software on my computer and that didn't help either.

Help please! I'm now out of ideas

Thanks!

I have Dell Vostro 1014. I'm in Windows 7. Just last month, I'm experiencing short internet connections about 5 to 10 minutes everytime I turn on or restart it. Afterwards, it won't connect anymore. I went to SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING, it wen't fine, the connection is fine, I browsed fine. But after two weeks, it stucked similarly to normal mode, where everything wont update, connect, or browse even internet icon shows connected. Help me, I'm using my friend's laptop for repairing purposes only. I used to follow forum's advice. restarting drivers using CMD, ipconfig flush dns and similar, etc. My chrome says DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN, my IExplorer won't connect, my firefox won't connect. All softwares won't connect.

Hey there. This is my first post on this forum, I hope that I can get some help here . Anyways, here is the issue that my roommates and I are experiencing with our internet.

Recently, starting just a few weeks ago, our internet began acting a bit strange for all of us. We are able to constantly stay connected 24/7. In our network preferences, it says we are always connected to the internet with full bars. For the most part, we all have perfect and fast internet connection, but for some unknown reason, every 45 minutes or so (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer), we won't be able to load anything on the internet from a range of about 5-10 minutes.

The strange thing is that even during these periods of time where we are unable to load anything, as if we had no wifi connection, all of our devices that we use the internet on said that we all still had a perfect connection. Even if we are sitting right next to the router with our laptops, this issue will still constantly reoccur as i described earlier.

What's even weirder is that sometimes things like video games on the pc that run in different clients (not the internet browser), will be able to maintain internet connection when playing online when the internet stops working for everything else. That is definitely what confuses me the most. How could a video game maintain internet connection for online play on the same wifi, yet none of our other devices are able to load anything? We won't even be able to use w... Read more

I have windows 8. I set my computer to connect to my network automatically, but I have to log in every time. That is fine, I can live with that. But let's say my network is called AARON. Well now when I connect, and hover my mouse over the connection it says AARON 1,2,3,4,5,6,7........etc. Like every day I connect it's adding another number. I'm up to 50 right now. And forgetting the network does not make this go away. If it matters, my network is "hidden"

Thanks!

A:Wifi won't connect automatically, shows 50 sessions?

The same kind of thing has happened to me since I upgraded to Win 8. Our WiFi too is hidden. I have no trouble connecting each time. But if I check "Connect automatically", Windows says, "Cannot connect to this network"?even though it's just connected to it.

Windows is not adding numbers after our network name, though. If it were, I wouldn't try to fix it. It'd be too exciting seeing how high the numbers would go. Of course we live in the suburbs; where you live, more interesting forms of entertainment may be available.

I read bunch of articles on how to remove a Wifi profile.. However I have problem with networks which aren't in profiles (I only have 1 profile and its my home network)..

I have currently 7 networks when I click on the Wifi icon in the task bar. they are from people living around me I guess. They all have "Connect Automatically" checkbox ticked. If I untick it - it goes back once I move my mouse away.

I cant right-click on it and there is no other options. And as I already said - these aren't in the Wifi profile which you can manipulate through netsh.

Windows 8.1 Pro with all latest updates..

I am pretty sure I saw other people complains about the same issue without much of the results..

Any ideas how to uncheck Connect Automatically for ever and ever?

A:All WiFi networks in range are Connect Automatically.

Unless you have the security passphrase, you are not going to connect to any of those Access Points. All it is showing is available Wifi Access Points that are available to connect to.

Hi,
I am having trouble getting an HP laptop to automatically connect to our home wifi. It won't connect either on start up nor after it has woken from sleep mode. Both times it has to be manually connected.
I have checked the 'automatically connect' in the wireless networks properties box but it seems to uncheck itself after it shuts down.
This is the 2nd router that it won't connect to whereas all the other wireless computers etc we have have no problem connecting to the router
If someone would be kind enough to suggest a fix I would be much appreciative.
Thanks.

Hi guys,

Bought my new Sony Vaio today that of course came with Windows 8. I have completed the setup and installed Norton 360 and Office and tried (unsuccessfully) to uninstall McAfee. Now when i boot up the computer the WI-FI connects (with a full, four bar connection) however, when i try and open IE or the store, I get a connection issue saying there is no internet access.

I am using the same Wi-fi network to post this on this forum, so it seems the issue must be on the Vaio side, what do you guys suggest?

Hey folks!

I have tried W7 for about a week now, and I love it! I have one problem though; Windows connects to my wireless router at startup, but I have to wait 2-5 minutes before I can access the internet, Spotify and e.g. Live Messenger.

Programs like for example Windows Update and F-Secure downloads updates and stuff, but I can't surf on the internet or log on to Spotify.

There seems to be some kind of delay..

Any ideas?

same issue for me, once connected, it seems that Ie for example cannot have access for some time to the TCP-IP stack

I have a new Toshiba (not sure if that really matters) which came with Windows 8. The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7. I don't know if that's important.Main point: I am the only one in my house whose computer cannot use the wifi. I used it for about three weeks with not more complicatios than everyone else until a day or two ago. Now while others have normal access mine continues to be limited with not internet access. When Microsoft searches for a problem it says "Problems found: 'Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration'". Do I need to do something with my computer, the modem, the router, or something else? Many thanks

A:Wifi connected with limited access

The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7Although routers can connect multiple devices at the same time by wireless there are some obstacle you must check first like the distance and interference. The wireless feature of the router such as channel and signal would be the clear probable solution. Depending also on your router, look for an updated firmware version that might stabilize your whole connection and try updating your network adapter if available.
