What is the best way to backup installed device drivers for use of fresh Windows

Q: What is the best way to backup installed device drivers for use of fresh Windows

What is the best and trusted way to backup installed 3rd party device drivers (and software too, I guess its possible) so that I can reinstall them on a fresh windows installation?

A: What is the best way to backup installed device drivers for use of fresh Windows

Personally, I would create a disk image on an external hard drive using somthing like Macrium Free. Make sure you create a WinPE bootable disk using the program and make sure it boots. On a Windows 8 computer you will need to disable SecureBoot before you can boot a CD/DVD.

If you needed to take it back to the fresh install state, you would boot the WinPE disk and restore the image to the drive. Even if your drive failed, you could put a new drive in, boot the WinPE disk and recover the image. You would be back in minutes instead of hours.

A:What is the best way to backup installed device drivers?

Hello 1gouravgg, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I find that saving the downloaded driver installation files from the device or PC manufacturer to a drive other than the one Windows is installed on a great way to back them up. This way they are quickly available to install as needed.

Hello Everyone,

I've installed Microsoft Windows 8.1 Version 6.3.9600 Build 9600 on my HP 430 Notebook PC with 1 GB RAM and Pentium CPU @ 2GHz 2 Cores.

Display drivers are not working properly (i.e., everything appears bigger and unclear), earlier I'd successfully updated the display drivers and made it work using Device Manager. Can anyone help me making a backup of the drivers (may be in .inf format) from the installed drivers so that I don't have to update it every time I re-install it.

Thanks

A:How to backup Drivers from Device Manager/Installed Dvr ??

.Inf is just a file with the drivers. If you want real backup of drivers, use a program like this: Download Double Driver - MajorGeeks or Download Driver Magician Lite - MajorGeeks
They can be restored using that program or partially one by one or only specific ones.

This is my first post ever so here goes I have just got a used gateway mt6840 laptop and every time I tried to start it I would get a black screen that says pre-boot eXecution environment (PXE) v2.1
PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
PXE- MOF: Exiting PXE rom
operating system not found

so I thought I would start over and re-install the os so I put in the gateway vista home premium 32-bit operating system disc that came with the computer and it starts up and goes to a screen that says load driver select the driver to be installed there is nothing for me to choose at this point so I just hit enter and then it says no device drivers were found make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers then click ok

I even tried using a windows XP pro disk install making sure that the cd rom is first in the boot order and it just goes right to the same black screen as stated above any ideas at all would be great thanks

Hi,
I came across an issue that I find confusing. Whilst trying to install a software to run a mobile USB flash modem, the software pops this message:

*************************************************************
your current device installation settings is configured to prefer drivers from Windows Update over locally installed
drivers. This can cause Unlimited data Manager not to work correctly.

do you want to change the settings to prefer locally installed drivers over Windows Update?
**********************************************************

What does it imply if I change my settings to prefer locally installed drivers over windows update drivers?
And can this action be undone and where/how? (I searched my machine but didn't find where this option is)

Thank you for reading

Hello all! Well, I have here a slightly new problem. I was able to wipe a harddrive clean and installed a fresh OEM copy of Win XP Home SP3. Install went just fine, it loads, everything is perfect...EXCEPT...for some reason it did not install some drivers and I'm not sure if I should just go and download the drivers to a flash drive (from another computer) to install it on the "new" HDD. The tricky part is that the ethernet controller is one of the drivers that was not installed, amongst MANY others.
The system is as follows
Dell Optiplex GX270
BIOS version A07
Intel Celeron 2.20 GHz
256 MB RAM
Fresh install of Windows XP Home SP3 (OEM version)

I can give a total list of the drivers if someone would like to see them. I warn you it is a lengthy list though!
Thanks for any opinions!

Hey guys,

Just made a thread a short while ago regarding file associations being messed up after an SSD clone in the file associations forum.

Long story short, formatted the SSD and did a fresh install of win7 home premium 64bit.

Install completes with no apparent problems, but upon startup I find there is no internet connection, and my local area network isnt recognised.

I went into devices and printers/troubleshooting, and what I found was that the following devices had the error Device driver software was not successfully installed, with the problem appearing to be 'no driver found'

- SM Bus Controller
- Ethernet Controller
- PCI Simple Communications Controller
- USB Controller
- USB Controller

I then tried to get the drivers to search the install disk, same problem.

I then checked these devices on my wifes computer, copied the driver files to a portable stick, plugged that into a usb port (it found the stick drive immediately) and tried to install from the stick drive, same problem.

I then copied the complete driver file from my wifes comp (also a win7 home premium 64bit comp) and tried to get it to search from there, but still it says no driver found.

Im really not sure where to go from here, I even reformated the drive and did another fresh install, exactly the same problem, drivers didnt install.

After 3am now and Im getting super frustrated and angry, would really appreciate any advice you guys have on how to possibly fix this problem.

Hello,
I have a Gateway laptop model# W340UI. Was unhappy with the Vista Basic OS installed, so reformatted to XP Pro with SP3. I am now faced with a daunting problem that I have been unable to trouble-shoot on my own.
I am missing the drivers for the following 6 devices: audio device on high definition audio bus, both ethernet controllers, modem device on high definition audio bus, sm bus controller, & video controller (vga compatable). (I also admit to not knowing which of these controls wireless access to the internet). In device manager - under "other devices", each entry is preceeded by both yellow question & exclamation marks, and upon detail - the following is shown for each: "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)". I attempted to rollback drivers ("none saved"), and XP can't search the internet since I don't have the drivers which would allow for connectivity.
Though I am no expert, I've been a fast learner and can follow concise remedies/directions well. I am aware that the drivers may even still exist and that this may be a bios or registry issue???
If I have left out any pertinent info, please let me know so I may help others in their efforts to assist me.
Thanks so much for any forthcoming assistance.

That usually means the Dial-Up Modem in the computer. If you have high speed Internet service and don't use the computer for Faxing I wouldn't worry about it, in fact in Device Manager I usually disable it. Or you could try to use the right-click on it and Update Driver.

Yesterday we had a class presentation and my laptop was used to connect to the projector. So everyone in my class plugged their USB drives in my laptop. Every time a new USB drive was inserted, my laptop said hardware found and Windows would install a driver for that. Is this going to cause a problem? How do I uninstall these extra drivers? My laptop won't be using those USB drives ever again - other than my own one of course.

A:So many USB storage device drivers installed...

No, it won't cause any problems at all and the drivers will not load after they are unplugged.

But, if you want, you can actually remove these "phantom" drivers. I do it occasionally since it just makes sense that having fewer things to be checked on boot is going to speed things up.

You can use these to remove non-present devices:

USB Device Viewer
USBView
I also enable the viewing of so-called "phantom devices" in Device Manager (when the hidden devices are enabled under the View menu) so that all the drivers can be seen:

Let me begin by thanking all who respond with assistance to my problem. I run windows vista ultimate and have never gotten sound to work on this computer. I have had some success with some suggestions I've read on previous posts. At first it was saying "no audio output device is installed". Thanks to some of the people here I have corrected that issue. I now have an audio device installed and functioning.....or so it would seem. I have a simple headset with microphone and I open the sound tab and look at the playback devices and it tells me that there is a digital output device (SPDIF) there and working. A 2-high defintion audio device. I click the recording devices tab and it tells me my microphone is not plugged in (it is guys and girls). The problem is I have no sound coming through the headset.

Let me eliminate some possibilities for you. Sound is not muted, I am plugged into the proper jacks on the back of the computer (not USB), my soundcard is an on-board foxconn. I want to say that my card is fuctioning and the drivers are up-to-date and maybe some of the information I have provided may assure you on whether that is indeed the case. I have checked my BIOS and haven't found anything to indicate that it wouldn't be loading, especially since the device manager reads my "high definition audio device". One last thing to eliminate is that there are no question marks or exclamation points next to the sound card in the device... Read more

all installed sound driver but it doesn't let us to enabled to use i.e. no audio device message (in control panel sound option), icon of audio device driver is not displaying

system tray area where it generaly appears. well i have done a lot of googling earlier and as well as done uninstall and install plus tried to find result on this platform then,

but it doesn't give any positive impact over system sound. I am not hopeless but it is my brand new ASPIRE 5738 notebook which has 3 gb of RAM, core 2duo processor

One more thing I want to share that yesterday night when I was trying to make my machine virus free i switched the sound driver to MUTE, which it still display in

properties dialog box under inactive icons in muted state, when I try to show it always it does not make it display at status area.

I just recently built my first computer. I purchased a Z87X-UD3H Motherboard from Gigabyte. In my windows 7 home premium, devices and printers window, it shows that there are issues with some of the motherboard drivers. I found some of the drivers online from the Gigabyte website http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4481#dl. However, I am not sure which drivers are for the two remaining errors that are showing up. Those driver errors are for the SM Bus Controller and an Unknow Device. First off, is having these drivers installed critical to daily function of the machine? secondly, Could any one tell me which driver on the site is for the SM Bus Controller and lastly, is the anyway to find out what the unknown device is?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I'm getting this in my perfmon reports:

ConfigManagerErrorCode

Device drivers are not installed.
A driver has not been installed for this device preventing it from working properly.
The device driver for Network Controller has not been installed. This device will not be available until the correct device driver is installed.
1. Try installing the drivers using Windows Update.
2. Install the drivers that are on the installation media that came with the device.
3. Check with the manufacturer for an updated driver.

I have installed the driver for my network card, and the bluetooth driver. I'm not sure about drivers for a wireless connection, I don't know if they're included in the network card drivers or not. What's this network controller thing? And what driver would satisfy it? I'm on an Acer Aspire 5742ZG. Their driver support is pretty bad
Hardware Identification Fixed my problem. I found out using that website that the Network Controller was an Antheros Wireless Network Adapter. Antheros. When I installed my drivers and saw that I had a Broadcom LAN card, I assumed that I'd also have a Broadcom Wireless network adapter. Well nope. I deleted the Broadcom driver, installed the Antheros one and now the problem is fixed.

I have started getting this error on my HP m8530f. HP has my motherboard listed as PEGATRON CORPORATION VIOLA 2.02. I have done some internet searching and so far have found that I need to update my motherboard drivers? However when I go to the HP website and enter my model # it does not show any updates available. Is this the direction I need to continue in or is there another solution?

Thanks

A:Coprocessor -The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

I would reinstall the drivers form HP's website or try rolling back to a previous version, the reason being is that you may have received some Window updates that caused your problem. Windows hardware updates are not always the best.

I recently installed a Kinivo BTD-400 usb bluetooth adapter so I could transfer files from my Samsung Galaxy s2 I727 phone. I downloaded the current installation files from the Broadcom site. At the end of installation, a message box lists several items "ready to use" (AV source, headset, etc) but three items saying driver not installed.
I have new entries in device managerBluetooth Radios - Broadcom USB device and Microsoft enumerator
Network Adapters - BT device personal area network and RFCOMM protocol
Other devices - Bluetooth Peripheral Device entries with exclamation marks.

I added my phone shows to Bluetooth Devices but it appears with an exclamation mark. I right click, troubleshoot, apply fix. Driver for bluetooth peripheral not installed. Try again. Same result. When I select a picture and click "share via Bluetooth" I get a message "image not sent." So my phone and computer see each other, but I can't seem to send a picture. Please help!

A:bluetooth peripheral device - drivers not installed W7x64 USB 4.0

Hi, to upgrade W7 BlueTooth, you must know the brand of the BT chip, and download from this one. Your problem seems to be missing the a2dp protocol, you get the exclamation mark. If your BT chip is not Broadcom, then drivers fail.

I have about 10 games installed on E partition
And i want to do a OS fresh install ( only C partition ) Will the games work after i do the fresh install of Windows ?
Could i make a backup and restore them after the OS install ? I already saved all the saved games, just in case.
But i don't want to install all the 10 games, after i install Windows, it would take a long time.
Any ideas, guys ? Could i use Acronis True Image, for backup, maybe ? Will that work ? Would all the games start normally, after i recover them ?
Thanks, any ideas are welcome

A:backup games / Windows fresh install

If you do a fresh install, you lose the registry entries, user, appdata, etc for the games. So unless they are old standalone games that don't use what I mentioned, they probably won't work by just using the executable on your E partition. I have Steam games on my D drive, and if I restore my system drive, then play the game from Steam, it will do a "first time startup" or something similar to that. Doesn't take long as it doesn't re-download the entire game.
I can then move my saves back in from where I've stored them as a backup.
For non-steam games I just reinstall them, then move the save games back. That's the main thing, saving the saves, and you've done that. I assume you have them saved off the C partition, otherwise they could get deleted when you do a fresh install.
Taking an image of the games on the E partition won't work if you're doing a fresh install. That will only back up your game files. Your fresh install will still destroy the system entries I mentioned in the first sentence above.
Re-installing the games is your best option.

Hi,

I had some issues with my installation of Windows 7, so I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled it today.

I've been reinstalling apps, but I'm getting some issues. For example, when I try and install Miro, it says: -

Quote:
It looks like you're already running Miro.
Please shut it down before continuing.

Also, I tried to install ImgBurn and it said that another copy was detected and I could only install the program if I chose a different installation folder. I didn't change the folder, as there was no installation of ImgBurn on my system, and the app installed just fine.

A couple of other apps have popped up warnings saying that another instance of the installer is running, even though it's not, although as yet, Miro is the only app that won't install.

What the hell is going on here? lol. I've had no issues with Windows 7 since the first release candidate, but in the last couple of days I'm having no end of problems. I Googled this issue and found another guy with a similar problem and he found that restarting the Windows Installer service cured this problem, but that hasn't worked for me.

Can anyone help?

A:Fresh Windows install, but apps are saying they're already installed?

How did you format your HDD? Windows generally won't let you format C:\ from the install CD if there is a current version of Windows 7 on it. Look in your root directory, do you see a Windows.old folder, there? If so, you drive wasn't formatted. You'll need to format from an elevated command line using the DISKPART command.

This is My first time doing a clean/fresh installation. I have recently done a fresh installation of windows 7 by booting via usb but I'm not sure if I installed it twice by mistake so this is what I done. I first changed the bios setting to boot from USB stick first and the first installation went fine until it said to "continuing to complete installation by restarting". When the laptop restarted it went back to installing windows 7 so I formatted the partition again and after it had completed installing the same message "Continuing to complete installation by restarting", but then I changed the boot sequence back to HDD as the top priority instead of USB.

My question is, Did I install windows 7 one or twice and how would I know?

When I tried changing the boot sequence by pressing a key I heard a beep noise by pressing the wrong key, Could this damage the laptop and going into the bios (2-3) times just to the boot sequence?

I'm quite scared as it is my first try plus fairly new laptop

Yeah, it was installed two times in a row, but no harm was done because the first installation was overwritten by the 2nd one.

No harm can ever be done to the laptop by going into the BIOS to make changes like that.

In other words, this was all 100% harmless.

Hi Final,
Dell comps are sometimes a pain upon re-install, They tend to muck around with the Bios.
You will more than likely require a set of Dell re-installation disks.

Hi ahieezer,

Welcome to Seven forums.

Please let us know if the windows was installed successfully. If not then you should perform a clean re-install on the system following the tutorial below:

Clean Install Windows 7

If it was installed properly then check this link below for rectifying the issue:

Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

However, before following any of the above make sure that there are no devices connected to the system and check again as sometimes devices connected to the system can also cause this conflict.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Hello all,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this problem, but this problem has almost made my crazy.

My PC configuration: ausu p8z77-v pro, i5-3570k, OCZ vector 128Gb as system drive, G.Skill 1866GHz 8G RAM, Bios updated to latest version.

The problem is: Just after the fresh installation, everything seems to be fine, wondows boot without any problem. Then it reminds me to install over 100 updates, including os security updates, .net updates, etc.

After installed the updates, restarted, I encountered this ci.dll missing problem. I m not able to boot into the system.

Things I have tried: 1. Reinstall: I tried to install win 8, win 8.1, win 7 ult, win 7 pro. All failed the same way, missing or corrupt ci.dll.
2. Anti-virus: I tried many different Anti-virus software, didnt fiund any virus.
3. Hardware: this is a month new system. I suppose it should be fine.

Now I suspect that it is one of the updates causing the problem, probably the .net 4.0.

I really need some help with this, I have reinstalled the system more than 10 times over the past week.....

thank you all.

Have you "reinstalled" or "repair" installed? Big difference. If you have not truly "reinstalled", that would be a good starting point.

Greetings,

This is a general question for a fresh install of Windows on a computer. Let's say we just completed the installation and we open up Device Manager (we haven't used Windows Update yet). Device Manager shows us that there are - let's say "3" - devices that do not have drivers installed for them. If we visit the computer manufacturers website though, they'll have - let's say "8" - different drivers to download.

If we only install the "3" drivers for the devices that Windows couldn't find drivers for, are we hurting our computing performance by not installing the other "5" drivers that were available on the manufacturers website?

This is just good to know in general, because I've faced this situation with every install of Windows since I began computing with Windows 98. But the reason I'm asking now is because the nincompoops at Acer - despite me entering my serial number - still offer me every possible driver for my model, including drivers for hardware that's not in my computer! Windows - of course - can't identify the hardware, so I'm ready to rip out the last little bit of hair on my head.

Thanks!

A:General Question - Windows Installed Drivers Vs OEM Website Drivers

Some manufacturers offer an utility that helps you identify what stuff you have in the laptop, I think Acer did.
You can also try the hardware-detection program this forum has, this tutorial

Also check the driver version, as some manufacturer list multiple driver versions and you only need the latest (usually, otherwise take the last version that works).

Also, installers of these drivers usually look up the hardware IDs of the hardware and if they don't detect anything that could benefit from them will abort installation. Some instead install anyway and you will have some drivers you won't need, but won't cause any issue as again Win7 knows that they don't match any hardware ID, and will leave them alone.

So, you may have noticed that I am talking of Hardware IDs, that are basically each device's own "calling card" integrated in each device, you can identify the hardware by looking up its hardware ID and then searching it on Google to convert that code into a human-readable device model and brand.

Open device manager, right-click on an unknown device, click on "properties", then go in the "details" tab of its properties panel from Device Manager, click on the drop-down menu and select "Hardware IDs". right-click on the codes you get on the text panel below it and select copy, then search the code on Google to identify the device.

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum so hope I'm posting this problem in the correct place. I have a friends HP pavilion g6 (not sure of exact model). On turning it on I get the following error 'No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key' I've tried a few things to fix this issue.

The hard drive when put in an external caddy and plugged into another computer seems to be working fine and contains all the correct files as far as I can see.

I went into bios setup and changed the boot order to boot from cd, windows cd booted up fine and installed windows 7, during the install I repartitioned and formatted the HDD. I was able to restart the laptop many times during this process with no issues and windows seemed to be working. However when I turned the laptop off the original error appeared when it was turned back on. I found a way of getting around this by accident and found that when I went into the bios setup and then exited it the laptop would then boot into windows. In fact booting from cd also only seems to work only after doing this.

Next I booted from a partition wizard bootable cd. The program shows a system reserved partition as it should but the windows partition was labelled just as '*' and was not active. I changed the windows partition to active. I also tried the following options with these results..

Set windows boot partition - Failed to find windows directory (although exploring the partition does contain the windows files)

Hey there and welcome to the SF!
To answer your first question, yes this is the right place for your query. Now onto your problem.

I noticed that you have rebuilt the MBR, have you tried rebuilding the BCD also?

Using the install disk, repair the installation. Then using the Command line type:bootrec.exe /FixBoot
If that does not work, repeat with the following command:bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
I have just found an external walkthrough that lists the best ways to go about solving this issue.
How to fix "no bootable device ? insert boot disk and press any key"

I think you will see some steps that you have already tried yourself, but all will help!

I will see if I can find some more information on this, as it seems like a bit of a challenge.
But let us know how it goes!

Yeah. Exactly in the subject. My dad has entrusted my with the task of trying to fix his old IBM computer. Actually, he really doesn't care anymore, he just said if I can fix it, that would be good. So I loaded my installation copy into a USB using WinUSB Maker (Beta 2, if you need to know.), and it worked. My USB loaded into the laptop fine, and it actually installed. After the setup finished, which took more than 30 minutes, I restarted the computer as it probably said, after after boot from the USB, it stated NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart. Tried again WITHOUT the USB, and it still had the same results, instead of it being "Any Key", it was Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. I dunno what's going on.
The boot order is as follows,
1. USB HDD (My USB).
2. USB FDD
3. Legacy Floppy Drives
4. ATAPI CDO (Buncha numbers that probably is the serial...)
5. IDE HDDO
7. PCI LAN
8. IDE HDD1
EXCLUDED FROM BOOT ORDER
IDE HDD2
ATAPI CD1

The weirdest thing is that NTLDR is ON the setup USB I made. I don't know why it can't find it... Below are the main items and folders that are on the drive:

Well...did you try to install via USB...a second time?

Did you run a diagnostic on the hard drive before attempting the install?

What is the source used to attempt the install?  What is "my installation copy"?  For what system, provided by a system manufacturer...or a Genuine XP System Builder or retail disk?

Decided to upgrade my lenovo laptop HDD for a Samsung SSD and have had nothing but problems getting Windows 10 to boot. I tried the windows media creation tool on 2 different flash drives with no success so I got the windows 10 ISO and loaded the USB drives using Rufus and am still running into the same problem. I am able to install windows onto the SSD no problem, but no matter what I do I get the "no bootable device detected" immediately after start up. I've been through every forum I could find over the last two weeks and nothing I've tried has worked. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

A:Fresh install of Windows 10 on new SSD -- No bootable device detected

Hello Lnc4288 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

The first question off the top here would be if you have been in the bios setup at all in order to see if the drive is found under hard drives or having disabled the factory logo screen seen the drive appear on the black post screen as drives, memory, cpu type information appears during the initial post tests.

Another thing to look at while in the bios would be the options for UEFI secure boot and Legacy. Since this type of problem has come up for others you may want to look over a few things. The first would be the guide for seeing a Clean Install of 10 go on. You will want to review things there as a refresher course. With SSDs using the same or similar technology as usb flash drives if you are replacing the original mechanical spinner at this time you will want to be sure that the optical drive isn't set as the default.

And if you are able to bring up the boot device menu selectin the SSD from the list should tell if the drive was actually made bootable or not. One option would be seeing an image made from the old drive being restored onto the new SSD and then if needed see an inplace upgrade to repair take place if the drive still fails to 10 run. The problem seems to be that the drive was never made bootable to begin with although the system folders and files were unpacked onto the drive.

hi all,

currently I am trying to do a fresh install of windows 7 on an old notebook, Compaq Presario V3500 (v3752au)

the problem:
I can not get pass the hard drive detection process, it kept throwing error saying that 'no device driver found'

what I have done so far: search for the motherboard specifications on the net and I got conflicted results, some state that the notebook uses nvidia nforce 560 chipset and the other state that it is using intel 945 chipset
however I downloaded both chipset drivers from numerous resources and still it would not work
consequently I tried every driver there is in Compaq support site and still I am in vain
posted this thread

additional informations: the original OS on the notebook is vista home edition but now it is all gone, including recovery partition
at first I can see the hard disk, but there is a problem using the existing disk/partition to install windows 7, went around the net looking for solutions and at the end I manage to delete the partition in preparation for a fresh install (using shift+F10 command prompt during locale selection)
booting windows 7 installation from usb drive is impossible since there are no such option in bios

I am hoping that any of you guys can point me to a proper remedy for this problem

thanks in advance

Wait explain better half of your post is explaining installing drivers the other half windows installation??

For the device error make sure your first boot partition is dvd drive. Also make sure it is set as IDE drive in your bios. If its a sata drive you will probably encounter this error. I helped someone correct that error can you give me more details about what setup your using hard drive dvd drive?

I just did a fresh windows 7 reinstall on my laptop, the problem is, it doesn't seem to have any drivers. So the computer also can't recognize USB and there is no WIFI network adapter installed. My laptop has no optic drive, how will I be able to install the proper drivers without internet and without USB access? A friend tried to get bluetooth working, but his phone couldn't find my laptop and vice versa.

Hopefully someone can help me because I really need my laptop for school

At some point in the last three months, a number of machines have stopped being able to add new USB devices.

These can be USB headsets, mass storage devices, anything. This includes devices which previously have installed fine and been working without issue.
In device manager, the devices show as "No drivers are installed for this device". However, if you click update drivers, and then manually select the Mass Storage (for example), you can install the device without a problem.
This has nothing to do with any vendor specific drivers - This is a Windows 7 issue.

Has anyone seen anything similar?
Is anyone aware of a recent update that may have had an impact on the USB stack or the operation of PnP?
Any other ideas?

Cheers

I did a reinstallation of Windows XP Pro on my main computer a few weeks ago. I would note that this is the first reinstallation of XP I have ever done. I thought I covered all of the bases (did a fair bit of studying beforehand), but I apparently I may have missed something.

I wiped and re-formatted the HDD's, reinstalled the SATA drivers and did a complete reinstall of XP. I updated the bios, video drivers, etc. Also made a separate 8Gb partition on my data drive for the swap file. Everthing has been working fine, but I noticed a few odd things this AM when I was perusing XP's "Device Manager".

There are several system devices listed which state: "No drivers are installed for this device." The services are as follows:

Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller
Direct Memory Access Controller
High Precision Event Timer
Motherboard Resources (listed 3 times)
Numeric data processor
Programmable interrupt controller
System Timer

I went through everything listed under Device Manager (even hidden devices - printers and non-PnP devices), and the above are the only "problem" devices I found. It looks like I omitted something when installing the motherboard software/chipset, but I don't know what it is/was. I have not encountered any major errors yet, and I've been running it for 2+ weeks now. It runs clean and fast. I do get IE-6 windows stating that webpages failed to load on an occasional basis, but not sure if this is related. FYI ... Read more

Hi,
Since the anniversary update, I've been getting no audio due to a "No output device installed" error.
All of my drivers are fine and running. I Reset the PC while maintaining my personal files AND STILL I had the error.
When opening audio properties, there are no inputs or outputs. Device manager points no errors.
Windows troubleshooting is useless in this case. Finds an error but no fix.
Another weird aspect is that it happens only sometimes. Sometimes, with a reboot it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Ran "sfc /scannow" while getting that error message and it said there were no errors.
Ran the HP boot troubleshooter and sound was just fine.
It's a new HP Spectre x360 4103np with native Windows 10. I'm going crazy because since that update, I've been getting a lot of errors...

A:"No output device installed" even though all drivers are fine after a OS reset

Hi,
Just called HP Portugal and they said that the error I'm getting is a known error and Microsoft is aware of it but there are no current fixes. Only a rollback to the original Windows 10 version would fix it.
So now we play the waiting game until either HP or Microsoft fix the problem.

I can't see any HDD where to install the fresh windows.  I have seen many solutions like trying in usb 3.0 port etc but to no avail. Please help me out .

A:fresh windows installation error- no device driver issue, ca...

lkmeena Appears the installer is not seeing the hard drive -- probably because there is no SATA controller driver installed. My suggestion is to do the following:1) Goto the Win7 drivers page for your PC and download the Intel Chipset Installation driver under Driver-Chipset:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-15-ay500-Notebook-PC-series/12229013/model/136736... 2) That will download file sp75505.exe -- which is a self-extracting archive.  Run that file.  That will extract the files from that archive 3) Copy the extracted files to a USB stick 4) When you then reboot your PC from the Win7 install media, press F6 to get a screen that will allow you to install the chipset drivers. After that, the PC should then see the hardrive.  You may have to reboot for that to happen.Good Luck

I am having continuous issues with a BSOD. Here is a little basic info:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (one week old install)
version of windows is a OEM upgrade (installed fresh from formatted hard drive)
Computer is about 2.5 years old.
Hard drive is 3 months old
RAM is one month old.

I am attempting to update windows via Windows Update. I have also tried to update drivers using Raxco software's Perfect Updater. I can't seem to keep the computer running long enough to get anything updated. Attached is the requested files. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

A:BSOD while trying to update drivers and windows on fresh install

Test your RAM using Memtest86+. Let it run until 6-8 passes have completed or errors have been found.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Run an sfc/scannow command in an elevated command prompt at boot. If errors are found, run it twice more with each scan followed by a reboot.
SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

Run a chkdsk on the system partition to check for bad sectors or system errors.
Disk Check

This may be some sort of hardware issue hence the Memtest & chkdsk.

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit upgrade disc and a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit installation disc. I was repartitioning my desktop to dual boot ubuntu and a third partition for data. The partitioning didn't complete and it broke the windows 7 partition. I tried to recover it using the windows disc but it couldn't save the o/s. So i did a fresh install of Windows Vista and setup the partitions for ubuntu and data in the Vista disc. After installing Vista I upgraded to 7. The 7 install didn't find drivers during the install. It doesn't see my monitor as anything but a Generic PnP, so I can't increase the resolution beyound 640 x 480, and it can't even find the ethernet connection.

I tried restarting the computer but it didn't help. A:Fresh Windows 7 install doesn't find drivers

You don`t have to install Vista to use your Ultimate Upgrade disc, in fact you should do a clean install with your upgrade disc. In order to get drivers you have to run windows update and in the case of your video drivers, you should be going directly to the manufacturers website. ( of the video card )

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Windows 7 is not 100% driver complete but it`s dam close.

Vista is probably the worst operating system windows has ever produced and in no way should you leave it the way you have it, and everyone here will agree.

How would I find out what network card I have, could I just load it to a flash drive an do it that way?

If it makes a difference it is a wired connection.

Thanks for your time.

A:Windows 7 fresh install cannt get network drivers

Linda,
As I was looking over you system specs... (ok, a little sarcasm, but)
would you be so good as to fill out your system specs.

I realize that you will need to go to another computer to download SPECCY.
Download speccy, then use sneakernet (in other words, copy to usb stick, put usb stick into your computer, copy to a location of your choice on your computer, then run the file you downloaded).

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.
================================================

Now one way to find out more about your computer, and even without using speccy, is:
MSINFO32.EXE or DXDIAG.EXE or going to a command prompt and typing SystemInfo.exe

At the tail-end of systeminfo.exe will be info on your network cards.

I have a Lenovo Edge 15 on Windows 8.1

The new laptop came with preinstalled software and drivers. However I prefer to do a fresh Windows 8.1 install without the Lenvo drivers/software. After doing fresh install, I prefer to go to Lenvo's support site and download and install the drivers manually.

How can I do a fresh install? The OneKey feature will for sure will install the drivers/software from the hidden partition which I don't want. I know Windows 8 has the reset feature, however, I am unsure if it will also install the drivers/software from Lenovo.

Also, I want to ensure that the reset feature won't damage/delete the hidden OneKey partiation.

Is it possible to do a fresh install without doing it from USB?

A:Fresh Windows 8 Install without Lenovo Drivers/Software

the onekey (recovery) partition contains the factory out of the box image.. And yes doing a Reset with onekey will rewrite all the factory software, drivers and bloatware..

If you wish to keep the factory setup for future use - Create a Recovery Drive - first..

Then you can do a clean install of windows 8.1 from USB or DVD and install the MFG's Drivers..

You can download 8.1 here > Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

Just recently, I nuked and fresh installed Windows XP on an old Dell XPS 400, and now that I finally have the OS working, Icant get the Internet working. I realized that my problem was probably that my drivers were not working, and after realizing that my sound driver wasn't working either, I relaized that I probably needed to reinstall many of my drivers. I was just wondering about what the easiest way to reinstall all of my drivers would be. Thanks in advance!

A:Easiest way to reinstall drivers after Windows XP fresh install

You can go to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers. Be sure to use IE and do not use the Dell Download Manager!

On the list of drivers, click on the Download File and on the next page, choose Single File Download . . save the file to a flash drive and double click on the Dell to install.

Install the Chipset driver first, then the Network Adaptor . . after that you can use the internet and download the rest

Hello all, I have a client laptop that I performed a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on. The install worked fine, unfortunately some drivers are missing that I assume were vendor (HP) specific. Currently the laptop can connect to the Internet wirelessly, but a wired Ethernet connection is "unidentified" and "limited." One of the listed unidentified drivers must be networking-specific, unfortunately all the networking drivers on HP's driver page have to do with wireless connectivity. I took a screenshot of the unidentified devices from Device Manager, hopefully a member of the HP community can help identify what the drivers are and how to find them. The laptop is an HP 15-f010wm Notebook PC  Thank you

As of yesterday, my HP Envy 6z-1000 laptop acquired a hive error. Unable to fix it, I simply installed a clean boot of Windows 7. In doing so, the "Recovery Partition" that comes factory installed on the computer was formatted and I no longer have access to the Recovery options provided by HP. I have contacted HP, but they only encourage me to purchase the 3 part Recovery Disc set.

The laptop boots perfectly into Windows 7 Home Premium. However, a few devices do not have drivers according to the Device Manager, including:

Since I am unable to connect to the internet, I have been on two other computers downloading the drivers from the HP website for the HP Envy 6z-1000. I figured the most important would be the Network Adapter driver, so I downloaded the driver, copied it to a flash drive, plugged the flash drive into the Envy 6z-1000, moved the driver to the desktop and ran it. After going through the installation, the SWSetup folder was created and inside it was the SP57965 folder (which contains all of the files from the installation). Just as I normally would, I reboot the laptop to reload the drivers hoping that the Network Adapter would be recognized, but the adapter (and its drivers) is still not recognized. Sounds like a driver, take driver verifier test
Driver Verifier
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it... Read more

I'd go to Samsung support site with your good PC and locate the Ethernet driver for your particular model. Get it on a USB stick and install it to the PC with the driver problems.

I wouldn't be in a panic just because I had some yellow exclamation points in Device Manager. Instead, I'd investigate what expected functionality is missing.

Then possibly go back to Samsung and look for drivers to fix the missing functionality.

Hi
I have had my Toshiba for 2 years and after reading a number of horror stories I decided to backup my information only to find that there is no "backup icon" in "system tools" and the microsoft website states that I should install it from my Windows cd rom! Unfortunately Circuit City didn't give me one when I bought my laptop.

I have searched my programmes and have found that if I upgrade my Sonic Record Now I can get a backup function. I object to paying for something that I should have got as part of my purchase.

My information consists mainly of photos, music and word documents.

Any assistance, advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Please note: I am using Macrium, but want to get Windows Backup and Restore to work also.

I have just had a 256 GB SSD installed. It holds my C drive (clean install of W. 10 including the Anniversary Upgrade), which has the usual files such as Program Files, Program Files (x86) etc. It is working well (and fast). All my 6 Personal Folders (duplicates of Documents, Downloads, Video, Music, Pictures and Desktop) and their contents are held elsewhere on my D drive (the original 2 TB internal rotating drive) and are backed up separately using FreeFileSync.

After a backup using Windows Backup and Restore procedure (with default settings and including a System Image) I got:" Some files were skipped" and "Did not complete successfully". "View skipped files" produced:

" Problem backing up C:\Users\defaultuser0\contacts. Cannot find the file, error 0x80070002" and

" ditto .......defaultuser0\searches"
Contacts and searches are indeed missing (also OneDrive) in defaultuser0, and the others (my 6 Personal Folders see above) are of course empty.

C:\Users\[my computer's name] has what I would expect: 12 folders including my 6 Personal Folders and Contacts, Searches, OneDrive, Favorites, Links, Saved Games.)

My 6 Personal Folders here are also empty (of course). I have never used Contacts (my contacts are in gmail), I don't use OneDrive, don't want to save searches or games or favorites, and Links has just two shortcuts (to Downloads ... Read more

A:SSD Installed: Windows Backup Failed

Hi, some have found problems using Backup and Restore, like you. Of those I've seen I can't recall the problems being resolved, but you're welcome to search the forum. The conclusion is using a 3rd party imaging solution is
a. more reliable
b. much more flexible
c. more fully featured.

Can you confirm that Macrium does work for you without problems?

Sorry- maybe someone else may help you.

I just completed a new install of Windows XP on a Dell Inspirion 1000 - FAT32. Everything is cool except that I have no audio device! Tried many different solutions to no avail. Could it be that I should have made the install NTFS instead of FAT32?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!

I have reinstalled Windows XP Home edition onto my Dell Inspiron mini 10 notebook.
But some of the drivers for various devices are not installed.
They are also not available on the Dell DRIVERS AND UTILITIES CD provided.
I beleive this stops me from increasing the Display Screen resolution above 640 by 480 pixels because the scroll bar does not move.
I beleive these stop me from installing ther programs i.e. Belkin Wireless Router.

Hello, thanks for reading my post.

I just formatted and reinstalled Windows XP home on my PC and have no idea what drivers I need to download to allow my computer to run well (Aside from my video card, I've got those ones)

Mostly I just need help since certain games won't run and I wonder if finding the correct drivers for my hardware will fix this : (Specifically, the game is Morrowind and it crashes as soon as I click "Play"), not sure about my other games.
Thanks very much and as always, any help is greatly appriciated.

Is anyone using Windows 7 to backup and restore a PC using Intel Rapid Storage Technology? I am using a a 32GB SSD to accelerate the main 1TB Hard drive. I am not sure how to proceed here, I don't want to experiment, I am looking for someone who is using a caching disk and how they go about backing up and restoring in windows 7. It seems like the Intel Rapid Storage Technology ads a level of complexity that is less than ideal. Possibly It might have been better to spend the extra money and go with just a SSD rather than trying to save money and add extra layers of work.
Any help or insight would be appreciated.

A:Windows 7 backup with Intel Rapid Storage Technology Installed

I don't have an SSD drive, but I can tell you for sure that you don't want the buggy Windows 7 backup program.  I've been using the FREE program Easeus Todo Backup Free for about the last 3 years on 7 computers and it works great for me.
The March 2012 issue of PC World was very high on the FREE program from Easeus and so is CNET.  In my experience with a variety of configurations I have to say I'm very impressed.  Like Ghost (which unfortunately is no longer on the market) it will back up to a networked drive, and it will create a boot CD for when your PC won't boot.  Don't download from CNET unless you want to get malware, but you can see CNET's review of it at
 http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Todo-Backup-Free/3000-2242_4-10964460.html?tag=mncol;1#editorsreview .
-
CNET has a lot of backup program reviews at
http://download.cnet.com/windows/backup-software/?tag=contentBody;sideBar .

Some of these are free (last time I checked there were over 300), some have free trials (over 1000), and some are purchase only (over 200).

External hard drives are best for backup. You can get a 1 TB one for around $50. You can also buy a 32 GB flash drive for under $20.  It's the best insurance you can ever buy!

I hope this helps.  Good luck

Hey guys, English is not my first language so I'm not familiar with the Computer Science vocabulary. I've had a Pavilion dv9700, Model # dv9819wm, for approximately 2 years. My hard drive failed and the guys at my school were able to recover 60 GB of files but most of them don't have an ordinary format. They are just saved on a folder on my desktop. They installed Windows 7, (It was Windows Vista before the failure) and I've been having problems with the coprocessor and "ethernet" drivers. Yesterday I uninstalled the "ethernet" driver and when my laptop rebooted the audio driver was nowhere, (obviously I have no audio), which was surprising since that was not the one I uninstalled. My Sound device is not shown on Device Manager either. I uploaded some applications that identify missing drivers and apparently the sound driver is the newest one available. I got on BIOS and the sound button was enabled. I went to HP's website and the only audio drivers offered for my laptop model were for OS Vista. When I try to automatically install the driver from another HP application it says something like my "Compatibility..." is not permitting a correct installation. First, what is going on? and is there any way I can get my pictures and videos from those 60 GB into a normal format/structure?. Thank you. Hope the post is not too long but I tried to give as much information as possible.

A:No Audio Output Device is installed. Windows 7.
