NONE WORK / Screen Saver / Lock screen SS / Turn off display after 5 mins

Q: NONE WORK / Screen Saver / Lock screen SS / Turn off display after 5 mins

I did an upgrade from Win 7 , and Screen Saver / Turn off display after 5 mins was working under Win 7 64 bit
As my title suggest Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins are not working under Win 10
The Lock screen Slideshow is there when Win 10 starts but only shows ONE image, never moves to another.
THINGS I've done so far to get any of these working ...Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins
I’ve turned off all the Wake on lan functions
Tried different folder/ images for the lockscreen Slideshow ,window spotlight and picture
Tried to set new power options , was able to get SLEEP to show up in "Start" as it was not there before, but once click , the display DID turn off, but wouldn’t turn back on with mouse movement keyboard presses, had to do a hard reboot. Win 10 started without issue and the SLEEP mode was no longer aviable via the power "start" menu.
Anyone have a clue how to get all of these working. Really would like my display to turn off after 5 mins , and the Screen saver to work , the Lockscreen I'm not fussed about

Is it possible to turn the displays off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but for the display to lock only after 30 minutes of inactivity? The numbers are examples, but probably close to what I'd set.

I'm keen to save power, but having a short inactivity period, but I don't want to be entering my password all the time.

A:Turn off display after 10 mins; lock desktop after 30 mins?

You can use the power saver options to turn the screen off after a certain amount of time.

Even if the monitor is turned off due to inactivity, you can also set a screen saver to blank screen after the same about of time that you used in the power options to turn off the monitor. Put a check by the "On resume, display logon screen". Then add a delay between the time that the screen saver comes on and the time that the computer locks:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"ScreenSaverGracePeriod"="1111"
You can change the 1111 to any number between 0 seconds and 2,147,483 seconds.
If you would rather not use the screen saver method...
...you could use a scheduled task that triggers after an idle period:

Code:
rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation

All of my "Idle" settings take effect despite not being idle. I have set my power managment settings to turn off my screen after being idle for 20 minutes. Rather than turning the screen off after being idle for 20 minutes, the screen turns off every 20 minutes regardless of whether or not I've been idle. The screen immediately comes back on as it typically turns off in the middle of my typing an email or a forum post. I have tried this on various time settings, as low as a minute and as high as 20 minutes. It seems that my system activity is not recognized (i.e. my typing and mouse usage) unless the system is specifically looking for activity, such as when the power management system has taken affect and the screen saver has come on, or the display shuts down, etc. This isn't a huge deal except that, when my settings included going to my lock screen I had to put my credentials in every time that the system shut off the display. I've read the solutions that suggest setting all of my power managmeent options to "never". This is simply not an acceptable solution. If I am using my computer in a public place and I get up to get a cup of coffee, I want my computer to lock itself after 5 minutes of inactivity. Additionally, if I'm in the middle of taking notes at a lecture, I want my display to shut down and conserve power after I have been idle for a time. Simply telling the machine to never use its security and power saving functions does not fix the problem, it si... Read more

I'm sure this is possible. Right now in my Screen Saver settings I have unchecked the "on resume, display logon screen" checkbox. In my power settings, I have set the laptop to turn off the display after being idle for 10 minutes. However, everytime the display turns off for some reason it still locks the screen. What gives!?

A:How to turn off display when idle, but NOT lock screen (switch users)?

There have been issues with this, and I can't remember what the solution was, but there's an extremely simple workaround (if you don't use a screen saver): set the wait time to a very high number (like 9999 minutes). It will never lock again.

This keeps happening after the update a couple of weeks ago. I set it to 30 mins, it resets itself to 10 mins. No viruses, no malware on my system.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

A:Screen Saver Keeps Resetting Itself to 10 Mins

If you suspect an update I don't see any alternative but to look through them and see if any seem remotely related to the issue. If none of the updates bean on the screen saver then process of elimination may be the only solution.

The "easy way" may be if you have a Restore Point from just before the updates.

Hi, first post here by a rather happy Lenovo Yoga 13 + Windows 8 user.

As the topic says, is it possible to have the lockscreen turn on automatically after a few minutes?

As it is now I can only get to the lock screen after waking up the computer from the screen saver. I would like to have it configured so that the traditional screen saver is bypassed and it goes straight to the lock screen and stays there forever until I swipe it up.

I think the lockscreen is a very beautiful feature and it's great to see all these small notifications. It would be wonderful to just be able to glance at my computer and seeing these notifications without actually having to touch it.

I feel it's kind of useless to only see the lock screen while you're actually logging in, because then you'll see your notifications anyway on your start screen.

A:Can I use the lock screen as a screen saver?

The easiest way is to right click your account icon on top right of Start Screen and Lock it.

Don't know of a way to auto lock.

I have a very strange problem, I'm stumped and would appreciate any help.
On my new HP6910 laptop, when my XP Pro SP3 (system default XP) Screen Saver comes on, the screen has a partial heavily corrupted copy of the bottom taskbar at the top of the screen (!) and when I ctrl-alt-delete and enter my password the taskbar at the bottom is missing all of its text but otherwise looks reasonable. The Oulook, Word, and other started tasks in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen have their icons, just no text, even if there is a group of them and you hover the mouse over the group and they expand. Most of them still work, but Windows Desktop Search (WDS) doesn't work and I have to close them and restart them. This seemed to start a few days after I installed WDS, added a DVI monitor to the docking station and the same day I installed Activesync 4.5. I've reinstalled WDS and removed my wallpaper but this didn't help, I'm about to reinstall Activesync but it takes a few hours to sync for the first time so I thought I would see if anybody had any other ideas before doing this.
All help is greatly appreciated!

i want to make a shortcut on my desktop to activate the screen saver and also locks the computer at the same time?????????

A:how to make a shortcut to lock computer and activate screen saver

For the screensaver, find the .scr file in C:\Windows\System32\ then create a shortcut to it with the -s flag. For example:
Target: C:\Windows\system32\[screensaver].scr -s

For locking the workstation, use:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation

Not sure you can do both in one, but I think you can set the screensaver to ask for a password afterwards, which has the same result.

I was wondering if anyone knew what settings I could change to lock the computer after it goes to sleep/screen saver kicks in (like XP Pro does). I just realized that after the screen saver and/or sleep kicks in, when I reactivate the computer, it doesn't revert to the windows logon screen (yes, the on resume, display logon screen is checked in the screen saver), it goes straight back into the account it was in.

I tried changing all kinds of security settings but to no avail. Anyone know a way around, or if this is a common issue?

Thanks.

PS - I set my logon screen to not show user names, so you need both the user name and password to access any account (and no-one can tell how many accounts are on the system), not sure if that "setting" is an issue to automatically go to the log-on screen after sleeping/screen saver. Hi -

Help. Ever since I had a crash a few months ago my monitor wouldn't shut off. I set it over and over to do so with the power settings, but no good. I didn't know about you guys and I just shut the whole computer off every night. Here's a weird thing. I could swear that I used to have the options of hibernate and stand by with this machine . It's a Sony Vaio with all the hardware on it. It's just mine - no network. I don't think I'm confused back to more than 5 years ago. I just let it all go. I think I read that the best thing was to shut it all off and that's what I've been doing for a long time, even before the crash. I went to Microsoft and looked where I was told and no hibernate or standby. I put it in search and got a whole lot of files that ended in .inf

Well, since yesterday my screen saver won't start up at the set 20 minute time. At least I didn't have to turn off the monitor all the time because the screen saver would go on during the day.

Today I posted some other problems that are popping up lately in the XP forum. I hope this isn't the end. The screensaver is another new problem. Any help is always appreciated. OH, this is good, it won't let me post as it says I just posted 10 secs ago. I posted something this morning. GREAT. It's the end.

A:Solved: screen saver turn on

It's better to blank the screen or put the PC to sleep, but the answer to your question is 'yes.'

Put a shortcut to the screen saver on your desktop. Easiest way is to just right click and hold on the file and drag it to the desktop. When you release the pop-up menu includes 'Create shortcuts here.'

For example, if you want the "Mystify" screen saver the file is C:\Windows\System32\Mystify.scr.

Just recently, within the last couple days, my screen saver has decided not to work. It has always worked without any problem before, and im not sure why it decided to stop.

I've checked everything that i know with my knowledge, but it seems fine.

A couple possibilities are that when i did a google search on this problem, i found a post saying something about editing the screen saver file in C:\WINDOWS, but i notice that i dont have that file.

I dont know if the file was always never there, or maybe it was deleted somehow.

Another possibility is that there is a program running in the background, but i dont think that is the case because its the same programs running when it worked before.

Thanks in Advance

A:Screen Saver wont turn on anymore

Well it might be a dumb suggestion, but if you don't have the "screensaver file" (whatever THAT is) where it's supposed to be, maybe that's why it's not working.

So then MAKE one, maybe.

Post a link to the site that talks about the screensaver file and maybe we can make you one to fix it. Or something.

Have you gone to the XP setting from Desktop>Properties ? It has a timer on it so it starts after a certain amount of inactivity. Did this change ?

Can you do the "Preview" ?

I have my power settings set so the screen saver comes on after 10 minutes, and the display turns off after 15 minutes. Everything starts off hunky dory. Though whenever I add a monitor or change resolutions there's a 50/50 chance I'll get a "windows explorer has stopped responding, windows explorer is restarting" error. Once that restarts my screensaver/power options won't start again until I reboot the computer.

Previewing the screen saver works, but it won't start up by itself.

Changing or resetting the power plans has no effect.

A:Screen saver doesn't turn on after explorer crashes

The screensaver and some of the power functions are handled by the video drivers. Update those if possible.

If those video drivers are already up to date, then let's start looking for a reason for explorer restarting. Use Process Explorer to see you we can find an app that is exiting and taking explorer down with it. You can change one setting to make it easier to see such an app:
File > Options > Difference Highlight Duration
...set that to 9 seconds.

If Process Explorer does not help, then take as many things out of the equation as you can via this process: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

If a clean boot does not stop explorer from restarting when you change screen resolutions then spend some time with these steps: Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Hi
You can still use the old ssmypics.scr (My Pictures Slideshow) screen saver in Windows 8.
If you have access to an XP system, you can copy the ssmypics.scr screen saver file from the Windows\System32 folder and move the file to your Windows 8 system. Place it in the same folder (If you are using the 64bit version of Windows 8, place
the file in the Windows\SysWOW64 folder).
If you do not have access to the file, you can download a copy from the following link.

ssmypics.scr

Download the file to your Desktop.
Right Click the file and select Properties.
Click the Unblock button.
If you wish, run a scan on the file with your antivirus software.
Move the file to the proper folder.

You can now go to Personalize/Screen Saver. The screen saver will show up as
My Pictures Slideshow. Select the Settings button in the screen saver to see the options.

I have a screen saver that I've used for years in both Win98 and XP. It's now running on my root drive (C) just fine. I had problems with my present copy of Win XP Home so I bought a new copy of XP Home with all the service packs in it. I installed it on another drive so that I could install all my programs before transfering it to my root drive.

When I installed my favorite screen saver there was no problem. However the 'Display Properties' window where the scren savers are selected does not show this new saver as a selection. The .scr file was installed in the 'Windows' folder on the drive just like it is on the copy of XP where it works fine. Since several people say the saver apps are found in the 'System32' folder I copied the .scr file to 'System32' but that didn't help.

Does anyone have any idea why the 'Display Properties' doesn't see the .scr file and put it in the list of savers?

I can open the saver by clicking on the scr file but then there are no settings or timing functions and when I move my cursur and the saver goes off the 'Display Properties' shows the selection for a saver is set to 'none'.

Strange how it works fine in one copy of the OS but not in this new copy.

ok, if anybody is still out there reading this after all these years, please help me.

I have the same problem --- screen saver does not work --- and I have a wireless mouse in the system. When I first plugged in the USB receiver for the wireless mouse, Windows automatically installed the driver(s).

Should I uninstall the driver(s) and, if so, how do I do that?

Or, do you think the cause of my issue is different?

Or, do you think I should just set a mouse trap?

Thanks!

A:screen saver does not work

The problem is, the screensaver does not really save the screen. Only turning the screen completely off will preserve the life of the display. The screensaver is just a diversion --- a fun thing to watch for a few minutes until the screen turns off.

My preferred setting is: 3 minutes of inactivity --> screen saver and 7 more minutes of inactivity --> display off.

Right now, my screensaver does not work, so the net effect is 10 minutes of inactivity --> display off.

One would think that after all these years somebody would have definitively solved the problem, but apparently not.

If anyone does have a solution, Please post if on this thread.

Thanks!

And i want to use the "Ribbions" screen saver that windows came with, however it does not work.

My screen will show it for 2 seconds and then it will go black

On my old instaill it worked fine

A:Screen Saver does not work

Did you have Win 7 beforehand?
Check your graphics card for latest video driver.
Does this only happen with Ribbons. Do other screensavers work properly?

I realize this is a small issue but my screen saver or "sleep" mode will not come on. Although I don't know if it's related, but I recently installed a Microsoft Laser 6000 mouse - ever since then the sreen saver won't come on AND it won't gone into dark screen/sleep mode. I have to turn off the monitor when not in use.

A:Screen Saver Won't work

If it's only been since installing that mouse, it's safe to assume the drivers for it are the culprit. Try reinstalling your graphics drivers.

I was wondering if it was possible to set something so that no matter who logs into the computer the screen saver will never come on and the monitor will never turn off and how to do it. We are on a domain here and use Terminal Services, so we don't want this to disconnect our sessions. Thanks.

A:Disable Screen Saver and Turn Off Monitor after certain time limit for all users

The only way to do it is to login as each user and set it up. I am pretty sure there is not a way to make it unversal.

I have just changed from XP where I used random photos as my screensaver and I had the option to show the file path which was an effective caption. With photos going back many years it was always enjoyable as the photos brought back memories. I am now using Photos as my screensaver in Windows 7 but I can't find any way to show file path / captions. Can anybody help please?

A:How do I display file paths when using Photos as a screen saver

Welcome to Seven Forums romper. It can't be done natively in 7, but if you still have your XP PC, people report success in copying ssmypics.scr from their XP machine to the Window 7 C:\windows\System32 directory. Open the Screen Saver Settings window and select the My Pictures Slideshow option, and voil?!

I have a laptop HP Pavillion dv9310us with Vista Home Premium.
I set the screen saver to 1 min and nothing happens. Is something set to
block my screen saver from happening or is there a special setting with
Vista to unblock my screen saver?

Thank You very much,

My system Froze up and went to a black screen; upon reboot it wouldn't get past the BIOS load screen. I reset the CMOS and now everything works fine except an issue with the photo screen saver. The other screen savers work, but the photo screen saver will not. When I try to go into settings with the photos screen saver selected it looks like it loads something but nothing pops up, and then the screen saver window becomes unusable. It doesn't freeze but it acts like there is a second dialog box open and it's waiting for you to finish with that dialog box (if you know what I mean). I can't preview with photos selected either, but it doesn't become unusable.

A:Photo screen saver won't work.

I would be more concerned with what caused the major crash than little problem with the photo ss.

For that you can try running
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If you can find a c:\windows\minidump folder and zip the contents of it and attach it to your next post that would be great.
If there's nothing in there or the folder doesn't exist nevermind, I'm just curious what caused the hard reset.

I've read other threads on this issue, couldn't find an answer??? Where should I look? Same issues, running Vista 64 pre installed on a Gateway. Screen saver sometimes works if I change the time on control panel - screen saver - minutes to wait... if I reset it to any number, it will work for a while, then it stops working.

How do I remove the gremlin that's messing with my system...lol. What do I need to do to remedy this? Where can I find the answer?

A:Vista 64 screen saver won't work

Unfortunately this is an issue that seems to plague Vista just like the issue of Vista not remembering folder settings; though there is a registry tweak for the folder issue. I too have had my screensaver mysteriously quit working.

When I put my computer on standby/hibernate I can no longer get it back up and running. The computer turns on but the screen remains black. I have to just shut the computer off and restart to get it going. Also my screen saver doesn't turn on anymore. When I go to the screen saver window it showed [none] as the screen saver. I just tried changing it yesterday to one of the screen saver options but it went back to [none] again. I don't know whether this has to do with my computer being cleaned out of malware weeks ago with help by a technician on this site. Any help you could give on why this could possibly happen would be appreciated.

maybe you set it too high or maybe a display driver problem...

We just got a new computer that included Windows 7 software. My simple question is this.
When we walk away from the computer for awhile and return to do something, the screen
locks up and asks for a password which I recorded when we first set up the computer.
I don't want to have to type in a password each time someone wants to use the computer

I have my screensaver set for ten minutes and have my monitor set to go blank at 20. That is what yours is doing. If you want to change the time before it goes blank check in your Control Panel under Power Options. You should not leave your screen on all the time, there is no reason. Let it go blank after about 20 minutes.

OK, first time using a message board, don't really know how this works. I've looked at a lot of other messages though and have not found a solution to my problem. My screen savers do not activate. Neither does my monitor automatically turn itself off. I can preview my screensavers just fine, but they will not turn on by itself. I have even made a shortcut to my screensaver on my desktop, but when I open it an explorer window comes up with a little page icon with a couple shapes in it appears in the upper left corner of the explorer window. All of the actual .scr files for my screensavers do not have pictures of the screensavers anymore, they are now just a white page with a little blue explorer e inside. I have been searching for a problem for a while now and have just recently discovered another problem (it may have been there before also and I did not notice) that could be related. When I open up my nvidia display properties and tell it to activate nview on start up an error message comes up about having to shut down "run dll as an app". I don't know if its related or not, but I tried downloading the latest driver from nvidia but it solved neither problem

The screen saver and power settings will not engage. I set to turn off monitors in 1 minute and even if i leave for a hour they are still on. Same with screen saver.

I came across powercfg and ran

and it showed

An audio stream is currently in use.

Okay, so even though I don't have any audio playing, it seems like the Realtek driver is causing the system to basically reset the timer. I tried to disable it by invoking the powercfg device disable wake argument and i get a permissions issue.

powercfg -DEVICEDISABLEWAKE "Realtek High Definition Audio"

Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

Hello,

After installing the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000, both the Screen Saver and Power Management stopped working properly or at all - whereas everything works fine if Mouse is not installed.

This problem has already been touched on partially in one of the Tech Support threads, but the solution offered there doesn't work for me. This solution amounts to go look on the Microsoft Help site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911895, which does indeed show that Microsoft is aware of this problem (occurring apparently for almost all Microsoft hardware!), but that its answers are absolutely irrelevant for me.

First the site begins to say arrogantly that the fault lies with two services, i.e.: "This issue may occur if the PCM and DVD Launcher services are running in the background" - conveniently ignoring that the problem does NOT occur with any other non-Microsoft pointing device. In my case, after checking with msconfig, these two services are indeed running in background - and I do need them now and again (so that the "solution" offered by Microsoft to disable those services in order to have their mouse not playing havoc with part of the XP system, is of course nul and void).

Their other answer is installing a software called "Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter". After an extremely long search through several Microsoft so-called support sites, when one finally gets hold of the software and installs it.... nothing happ... Read more

But sometimes after shutting down my notebook after longer periods of time, it changes back to the default lock screen display. Why is this?

When the lock screen kicks in after a certain amount of idle time, it does stay on the setting that I had chosen, but sometimes after a long periods of shutdown, booting back up the system changes the lock screen display to the default one.

I had done nothing as far as security lockdowns or anything like that.

A:Lock Screen Display changes to Default after shutting down

Hello win8freak,

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens.

The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows, and when the user is selected on the sign in screen, times out, and returns to the lock screen. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice. The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows or selected on the sign in screen.

If this is the lock screen showing when no users are signed in, then it's the default lock screen.

My HP Pavilion notebook has an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics card. I have not found a Windows 8 driver for this card, but at least two older Vista drivers that I have tried will run the card.

But after installing the display driver the boot sequence proceeds normally up to the lock screen (where password information is entered) which then appears blank. There is not a way to get past the blank lock screen, and the only way out is to uninstall the display driver. After uninstalling, the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter takes over again, the lock screen appears, and is not a problem once more.

I don't think the driver is directly responsible for this, as it seems to function normally. But something causes a hang at that screen. Possibly this is where the installed driver should have started but it is late in starting, so nothing is displayed?

Hello Knocks, and welcome to Eight Forums.

That tutorial is for setting how many minutes Windows 8 will wait idle with no activity when the computer is already locked before timing out and automatically turning off the display instead.

For what you want, you could set screen saver to the "(None)" or "blank" screen saver, check the "On resume, display logon screen" box, and set the "Wait" time to 15 minutes.

Hello, I installed HP Hotkey Support in order to change brightness and volume via the keyboard. The installer doesn't only contain the drivers, but also a on-screen-display feature indicating the current brightness/volume level. However, the OSD pops up with a considerable delay rendering it useless. Even without the delay I would prefer this thing gone. In the past, people have complained about this feature for various reasons and even though HP has managed to remove a popup notifying you every time you hit the caps lock button, they have failed to at least implement a button where you can specify whether you want the OSD to appear or not. I tried two solutions that seemed to have worked for some users a few years ago: 1. According to this thread, you can look for hpCaslNotification.exe  in C:/Program Files (x86)/Hewlett-Packard/Shared and rename it to e.g. hpCaslNotification.exe.bak. (Location in my case: C:/Program Files (x86)/Hewlett-Packard/Shared/Net4.5). This seems to be a solution to remove the brightness OSD, but when I change the volume with the keyboard, immediately the program C:/Program Files (x86)/HP/HP Hotkey Support/QLBController.exe crashes, after which none of the Hotkeys work anymore. 2. According to this other thread, and this support communication, you can change some registry settings in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Hewlett-Packard\HP HotKey Support, but in my case this key is not existent in this location and creati... Hi,

I recently changed the battery settings on my Dell Inspiron laptop computer, which runs Windows 7, to "extended battery life." For a few days, a box that reads "Extended battery life is activated. Change setting" appeared on my laptop screen when I initially unlocked the computer to use, but for two days now, the on-screen battery life message stays put on screen, all the time, and when I try to click on the "change setting" option to change it, nothing happens. I've gone into my control panel and tried various battery life settings, but the screen display still won't go away. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Hi,
I have a Dell 1750 Inspiron laptop that I use "as a desktop" as every piece of hardware is connected to it.
It runs with Windows 7 Home Edition. It has a 4gb memory and a 450gb hard drive which is less than half used.

I have the screen saver set to Photos and usually have a cut-in time of 1 hour idle.

The screen saver cuts in exactly when it should and scrolls through my photos for as long as the laptop is left idle.

However, as soon as I touch the mouse/keyboard, instead of reverting to the "normal" screen the photos disappear, the blank screen fades for a few seconds and then a message appears in a box, saying that the Photos Screen Saver is not responding, and gives the options of either close the program or wait for the programme to respond. Waiting doesn't seem to work so I have to click on close the programme and then cancel the statement that Windows will try to find a solution, because it doesn't!

I have tried to vary the time before the screen saver kicks in, anything from 1 minute to several hours but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Can anyone help please?

A:Photo Screen Saver wont revert back to live screen

Have you checked the timing for when the HDD turns off or Sleep or Hibernation kicks in [I disable both of those and lengthen the time on the HDD to several hours], Control Panel, Power Options?

The reason I mentioned the HDD is the symptoms you mentioned seem to apply. The screen saver could be in memory and not affected by the HDD until it's asked for something.

I was wondering if there is a way to turn off the display after a Windows 10 pc is turned on from a shut down state without any user logging in. I have disabled the lock screen via GPO. I also see that the Console Lock Screen Timeout work for me either.

What would be the steps to solve this?  On the external display the machine seems to run great.  I bought a new IPS screen and it looks to be in great condition.  I have no way to compare it with another screen that I know of as I only have this one (received laptop w/o a screen) and would prefer to not spend $50-$75 to test this.  My guess is that the screen is fine. 1) Check and reseat cables?2) Purchase new LCD cables?3) Remove everything (ram, hd, etc) and see if it posts?  Currently do not hear any beeps.  ... etc?  anything simple and obvious I'm missing?  Is there any way to test the screen without purchasing another one? It is NOT the duplicate/extend setting.  I have -- on the external monitor -- set it to duplicate, primary only, etc, and it had no effect.  thanks!

Hibernation in it self saves everything thats in RAM at the time the system is put into that mode. It should not lock the PC as that wasn't the state it was in before it hibernated. perhaps lock the PC before you push the hibernate button!
